Fairly straight-forward and easy course. It's great for people who are only looking to take one or two marketing courses.

Nice guy, good and straight-forward professor. Can get a little monotone. Although the group team assignments are a bit boring, he is very clear about what he expects from them. Gives study guide for exams.

He's a really good professor, he really knows what he's talking about and seems to genuinely enjoy what he was teaching. Half the class was material, and the other half was often funny examples of the material that made class bearable. The tests are pretty hard though, there's a ton of material on each one and you REALLY have to know the stuff.

If you read the book, listen to the lectures and reach out to the teacher, it is not a hard class. My pitfall was the three exams, I bombed all of them and that is a big part of the grade. You MUST get smokin notes for all exams, its the only way to pass the exam, they are incredibly hard. The professor is good though.

Very easy class. Never went to lecture and read Smokin' Notes the day of exam, ended with a B+. You will get an A if you deserve it, I didn't and am totally satisfied with how I did for the work I put in. He's really cool, adjusted the grading scale once, lets you appeal his sometimes-tricky test questions. Do the extra credit, easy class.

Dr. Cooke is a nice guy, and a good professor. His lecture is funny and easy comprehensive. If you follows his pace, this class is not as hard. He is willing to help his students, and also wrote me a recommendation letter.

He is a great teacher. Is not a hard class you just need to read and know the criteria.

This guy is truly wonderful, his lectures are very interesting, especially at double speed. All you have to do to get an A in this class is read the chapters, and complete all the assignments. Watching the lectures really helped me, and using the lecture notes he provides. Highly recommend him if you want an enjoyable class that's not too hard.

Prepare yourself for TONS of dad jokes... He is very nice and knows the material well which makes the class interesting plus a lot of cool and interesting examples. The class isn't hard, just a lot of material so READ THE BOOK.

This was a stressful, yet enjoyable class to have. You will need to watch the lecture either in-person or online and read the textbook to do well in the class. The exams are difficult, but if you use Smokin' Notes and use previous exams, you should be able to obtain an B on the exams. He does curve the grading scale if needed!

Dr. Cooke is an excellent professor. He cares about his students, provides feedback, and tells you from the start how to pass this class. Pay attention to his lectures and read the textbook! If you're struggling, get smokin' notes and review your notes.

Class was easy, only studied smokin notes a few days before each exam. He is not tricky with exam questions. He adjusted the grading scale twice during the semester so an A is easy as long as you do all of the assignments, which are all easy, and study for exams.

Took this class online and loved it. Very funny person. If you put the time into watching the lectures and do all the assignments (they're easy) this class should be relatively easy and he curves it quite a bit. Got an A-

Professor Cooke is a really good professor and a nice guy. I didn't like the fact that this class was online and lectures were hard to keep up with, but the tests were fair if you read the book and Smokin' Notes. He offers some extra credit and the quizzes are easy. I definitely had to put effort in to do well on the exams

Best professor to take for Marketing. Very nice, caring, and really makes an effort to help you succeed. Read chapters, do learnsmarts and practice tests over and over, study key terms. Do not think this class is easy. Very complex class with many different terms and topics to be learned at once. Many chapters on each test. Put in a lot of effort.

I would say he is a fair professor and this is a fair class. I didnt watch any of the lectures, and relied on smokin notes and the computational review about 3 days before the exam and received a solid B in the course. This just shows you that if you actually put in the time, you can easily get an A. Read the textbook and use smokin notes!

Such a nice professor, if you can go to class go because he really appreciates teaching to a full class. As for the class itself its pretty much the usual. Quizlets for hw, smoking notes for exams, and you'll pass. You learn very interesting material in this class.

I loved this class! Prof. Cooke gave lots of examples for nearly every subject and topic we were focusing on which some may have found unnecessary but I found super helpful.

I absolutely loved the class. It made me want to switch to Marketing major (I was an ISE). Tests are a little tough but no big deal. Make sure to pay attention to hw and quiz deadlines. I could've done way better but my time consumed with a programming class so I didn't pay 100% attention to this class.

At first I dreaded taking this class because when I saw the syllabus I thought I would have no time to do anything. Ya the tests are really hard, but if you take the time to watch lecture (yes I watched all of them & got an A on my first exam) and read the text you'll be fine. Just put in an hour a day in reading/watching lecture & you'll be fine.

I didn't watch but one lecture, got away with an A- by simply doing the textbook readings and using Smokin Notes. The lectures as far as others have told me and from what I saw are extremely easy to watch as he makes the material digestible and interesting. 10 quizzes, 3 projects that take 5 minutes each, 22 chapter readings with 50 easy questions.

Do all the assignments, go to lecture, and study hard for the 3 exams. Gives out 5 total EC points which can change your grade. There are questions on the exams that no matter how much you study you might not know.

He loves marketing so his lectures are long and filled with examples rather than just restating the textbook in a different way. Read the chapter first then go to his class. Each chapter has a 1 point homework assignment, but other than that ALL of your points come from non-cumulative tests. He does give a LOT of practice tests for you to use, tho.

I enjoyed taking Principles of Marketing with Dr. Cooke. His lectures were fun and insightful. The entire course is mainly just 3 non-cumulative exams.

Mr. Cooke was an excellent teacher. His lectures were always very specific and he provided students with alot of opportunity for extra credit. Furthermore, he also showed extra gratitude to his students by showing up to their tests right before they take it and wishing them good luck on it. He's a fair professor who cares about his students.

He's a nice guy! He puts a lot of effort into prepping segments for the lectures and thus, the lectures are truly interesting/fun. The exams can be tricky watch so his wording! Just watch all the lectures, study premade Quizlet cards for the book readings, do some practice exams, & you'll be solid. I didn't expect there to be so much to marketing.

Cooke is a great professor... it's his tests that make the class hard. The way they are worded will trick you. Use smokin notes and take detailed notes on the lectures. If you do that you are guaranteed at least a B.

I couldn't disagree more with the previous negative reviews. The test wording can be tricky, but Prof. Cooke really cares for the students and it shows. I found the lectures entertaining (when sped up to 1.6x) and the content easy to grasp. Easy A for sure... especially if you grab the smokin notes. No sweat.

Awesome professor, really cares about his students and responds to email very quickly. Exams can be hard if you dont study. READ THE TEXTBOOK AND USE SMOKIN NOTES. Smokin Notes saved my grade and make sure you do the extra credit!! Took the class online and didnt watch the lectures, just watch the exam review he posts. I enjoyed the class.

Dr Ray is a great professor and I enjoyed his class. GEB3017 is straight forward and the assignments/grading couldn't be more clear. There's a lot to read, a few papers, and two tests. I found it to be very reasonable. The assigned readings were doable and I enjoyed a few of the books. Dr Ray rocks.

So I received a C- in this class not because of the professor, not because of the class difficulty, but because I didn't watch any of the lectures. I slacked this semester. I sent it way too hard. The class seems pretty interesting while taking the exams. There are three exams, 10 quizzes, and and some McGraw Hill Connect assignments.

If I could take any other professor I would. I suggest that Dr. Cooke start writing his own test questions instead of having TAs write them. And if he does write the questions, I suggest he learns how to write clearly. I received an A in the class but learned absolutely nothing. He sucks and so does the class structure

The B I got in this class was the hardest B I have worked for. I am not the best test taker and the exams are the biggest percentage of your grade. Look at practice exams! He is really passionate about this course and it shows, i changed my major to marketing because I enjoyed what I learned in this class so much. This class was worth taking. STUDY

Cooke is a great professor, he is tough and makes you work for your grade, but he really cares about students. His lectures are very interesting, but the majority of the content comes from the textbook. The exams can be tricky but he makes it fair by giving exam appeals and usually gives about 3-5 questions back. Work hard and it will pay off.

Dr. Cooke is a super nice prof & really loves his job. The exam come straight from the textbook. Make a quizlet with every single vocab word from all 8 chapters, memorize like there's no tomorrow, and you'll get an A on the tests. Read smokinnotes, which was helpful, but exams are mostly definitions & application questions. Use quizlet & do the XC.

Cooke is a great man. The class is definitely not a 'freebie.' Reading the textbook is required due to for-credit learnsmarts and 1/2 the exams come from textbooks. lectures can be long but gives TONS of examples. Genuinely cares about students and send positive messages every once in awhile. Very small margin for error on exams, but still fair.

Professor Cooke can go on tangents, but he is great. The class is mostly tests, but looking over Quizlets, reviewing noteshells, taking multiple previous exams will ensure you get a good grade. Smokin Notes is not necessary at all because the content is mostly vocab and Dr. Cooke provides everything necessary to succeed.

As long as you do everything he tells you to do, look through his 21-page syllabus, and pay attention to when the quizzes and assignments are due, you will be fine. He won't always cover everything in the book, so book and lectures are both necessary. He accepts appeals to questions on his exams if you disagree with them. Overall cool professor.

Really loved this class. Definitely not an easy A, grade is reliant on a few exams that are super tricky, content full & require a lot of studying. But, Dr. Cooke's lectures made this an enjoyable experience for me - he shows a ton of real life examples and really kept the content relevant! Would definitely enjoy having him as a prof again :)

If you are thinking you will learn about Marketing in this class, do not waste your time. This class is based on test grades that are 84% of your grade. I did not see a problem with the professor; however, this class does not prepare you for real life scenarios or a career. If you want to learn about Marketing get an internship.

As long you use Smokin Notes and do a few practice exams you should be fine. But give yourself 4-5 days to study, its a lot of vocabulary. Every exam he appeals a few problems so your score usually increases after that. DO THE EXTRA CREDIT, it really doesn't take up too much time and it will definitely come in handy.

The class overall is pretty good and manageable. There is homework and quiz for each chapter and it is due every week but if u read the textbook you will do fine. My best advice for tests is to do practice exams and use smokin notes. If you have questions or need help with practice tests go to office hours. There is also extra credit.

Great guy. He is very understanding and cares about his students. I didn't have time to watch the lectures because they are somewhat optional. Use SmokinNotes. Do the extra credit. I wish COVID hadn't happened because he's genuinely a nice person who I would've liked to get to know better in in-person office hours.

While his lectures aren't super important for success in the class, they are worth watching. He does a great job explaining concepts and keeping students engaged even though the lectures are online. He gives plenty of examples which makes it easy to understand core concepts. I recommend this professor to any business or marketing student.

This isn't a class you can breeze through. Lectures are long and he doesn't just echo the textbook, so reading is necessary. But he provides study tools -- some practice exam questions are reused on the new exams. There's also opportunity for extra credit and appealing exam questions. Enjoyable class but requires putting in work and studying!

Personally, I enjoy his lectures, he is good at teaching. Do not miss quizzes and assignments and do the extra credits. I usually study 3-4 days before exams, watch lectures, use smokin notes, do practice exams and you will be in good place.

Cooke was a great professor! I wish I had his class in person. He provided TONS of examples to clarify concepts. This is the first time in a while that I enjoyed watching lectures! As for the class, definitely get smokin notes and do the EC. It definitely helped me reach that A. This class was a bit more difficult than MAN but still very doable.

In order to get an A you need to read the textbook and use smokin notes to get summaries of the chapters and lectures. For exam 1 I misjudged the importance of the lectures and scored a B on the exam, for exam 2 and 3 I got high A's on the exam by rereading the chapters and doing all the practice exam questions he provides to you.

I agree with most of these negative reviews but I truly believe his difficult courses are thru intentional design. He's very quirky and likable and I can see he genuinely wants his class to be a rich learning process. My trick to surviving and excelling in his courses is mentally repeating the phrase "I'm capable of doing this" and you'll do well!

Overall good class. A ton of textbook reading, but that's what Smokin Notes are for! The tests test you more on application than strict definitions, so know how to apply. Try and study a few days before the exam because it's a ton of material to cover per exam. The homework is easy, but prepare at least 30 minutes to an hour per smartbook chapter.

I am not going to say he is the easiest professor but he is relatively easy if you use smoking notes you dont have to watch the lectures. The most effective way to study for tests is doing past exams and reading the smokin notes. The past exams usually have a lot of questions that repeat concepts and then some that dont. There is also extra credi.

Never watched a single lecture from this guy. Honestly didn't even read the smokin notes past the first exam either (although the math vids were great). I mostly just did a bunch of his practice exams (might've had an easier time if I did the extra credit and studied earlier). Studying was a pain but the class is easy overall.

Smokin notes helped me so much for this class. Professor Cooke provides everything you need and he is an amazing professor. His tests are difficult but not impossible. The only reason I didn't get a higher grade was all on me not sutdying enough for the last exams. three exams the first is the easiest and they progressively got a little harder.

Class is fine, I literally didn't do any lectures and studied the day before the exam and got a B+

Professor was straight forward in lectures. Weekly quizzes and lecture 2x week. weekly smartbook assignments. Lots of concepts so study and get smokin notes to help as well. Quizzes you can take up to 3 time to get full credit minimum of .80. Allows for extra credit completing surveys. This is the only extra credit.

This class is not difficult if you memorize the smokin notes and take all of the practice tests for the exam, you will do well on the exams. 6 questions are computational on every exam and are free points as long as you learn to do them. He often gives back 4 questions per exam through his exam repeal system as well

Smartbooks is the only thing textbook is used for you don't have to read it. Do the extra credit marketing research things they are so easy. All info comes from lectures

Alan Cooke is often unfairly hated in conjunction with the challenging course he teaches. He is actually a very reasonable professor who will help you if you are proactive enough to ask. He posts old exams which are super helpful for studying the material. Marketing is super tough, but he really tries to make it interesting!

Class was definitely more difficult than I expected, but getting an A or B is definitely doable if you put in some work. I highly recommend his lectures and smokin notes notes to do well on the exams. He is very passionate about this class and it shows through his lectures! Also do the extra credit!

Professor Cooke is AWESOME! You MUST watch the lectures, but they are super interesting and applicable to marketing today. He draws on many examples of articles, ads, videos, etc. making the class easy to understand. The hw and quizzes are easy, just make sure to read the book!

Great class, lectures were actually interesting to watch (1.6/2x speed) I would watch them to get a general idea of the topic and then do the smart book assignments. 3-4 days before the exam I would read smokin notes and take all of his practice exams. Got high B low A on the exams, but the extra credit is the reason I got an A, add 5% to my grade

Prof Cooke was great! You are mainly graded on exams, but there's plenty of practice exams to get a good feel of what to expect. I attended all lectures and got smokin' notes. As long as you do some practice exams and give yourself about 5-7 days to study for each exam (depends on how slow or fast you like to study) you'll do great.

Do all the extra credit if you can -- this ended up adding about 5 percentage points to my grade. The class is test heavy, so do the practice exams to prepare for them. I did not have Smokin Notes and I got an A. I would suggest watching his lectures as they can be interesting and they are relevant to the exams (watch him in 2x). Cooke is great !

Exam heavy. I read the textbook and watched all the lectures, and studied with SmokinNotes (which definitely helped with studying). I did the worst on Exam 2, but extra credit got me an A. He's an interesting lecturer, and a good grade is definitely possible if you put in work. Some test questions could be confusing, but he has an appeal system/

Organized, fair, friendly, and inspirational. I recommend reading the chapter, then watching the lecture (2x speed), then doing Smartbook. There is a lot of information, but he gives you notes to add to, as well as practice exams. Lots of resources. Guidelines are very clear; you know what is expected of you! Great professor, nothing bad to say.

Fair professor with an appeals process for bad exam questions. Do all the extra credit you can because you may need it in the end. Smokinnotes is a godsend for this class, wish I had it for all 3 exams. Overall, good prof and interesting class.

3 exams make up a majority of your grade, readings and quizzes only counted for 1 point each. Exams were pretty difficult but he allows appeals for questions. Invest in smokin notes and do the extra credit if you can.

Dr Cooke is very passionate about marketing and his lectures are actually very interesting. He gives extra credit that can boost your grade up a whole letter, so please do them. The exams are not that bad if you study using smokin notes. Vocab is very important so study with flashcards provided by Smokin Notes or you can create one on your own.

There are 3 major exams in this class and they weigh very heavily towards the final grade. Other assignments through McGraw Hill takes time but it is guaranteed that you will get points as long as you finish them in time. However, if you fail one exam it is quite difficult to get your grades up so make sure to do the extra credits just in case.

In my opinion this class is way harder than it should be. The exams are not easy and they cover a lot of content from both lectures and the textbook. Do the extra credit and get SmokinNotes. Cooke is enthusiastic about the content and provides interesting real life examples but the exams cover so much material without SmokinNotes it's impossible.

Professor Cooke was a great professor with good lectures and great real-world examples, but the course was very difficult. The class is based on three exams worth 56 points and the assignments are worth 1, so you have to do good on exams to do okay in this class. Which is nearly impossible with how much material is on each exam.

If you put in effort, you can easily get an A. Read the textbook + make sure you watch the lectures: he includes things (not in the textbook) that will be on the test. Extra credit will also boost you tons, so make sure you do it (the surveys are super easy). There are tons of practice exams you can do to prep before exams, which are very helpful.

I enjoyed this class. Though exams were a significant portion of the final grade, I felt sufficiently prepared by the lectures, assignments, and practice exams. The class overall wasn't too hard, and watching the lectures was not a chore at all.

The class is very lecture-heavy, and not all content is relevant for the exams. It is difficult to know what to study since half his exam content is taken from the textbook and half from his lectures, however, if you put in the effort to do both it is possible to succeed in the class.

I had a great time in the class and appreciated that Professor Cooke took the time to provide real world examples in the lectures instead of just repeating the textbook verbatim. There were quite a few hours of lectures, but the course moved at a faster pace due to the summer semester. The test questions were similar to the practice exams given.

He offers lots of practice exams, extra credit, and an appeal system for exam questions. I didn't think the workload was insane, even when I took this last summer with other classes too. Overall, Dr. Cooke is an awesome instructor and funny too.

Great professor, gives lots of clear information about the class and is easy to listen and understand lecture. The only thing I will say is if you are a bad test taker (like myself) be prepared to study wayyyy more than normal and pray, because if you do bad on the tests it doesn't matter if you have 100%'s in all other assignments.

Very test heavy but as long as you study the material is not hard, there's just a lot of it. Dr. Cooke's lectures were engaging and I love the real world examples he gives, they really help in understanding the material. Smokin Notes is not needed in my opinion. I haven't taken the last exam but based off previous performance, I'll end with an A.

Reading and watching the lectures are going to be your best friend. He offers extra credit at the research lab which is so helpful for your grades. If I hadn't fallen behind on my readings and lectures I would have done better so it's my fault I didn't get a good grade. I would take him again.

Dr. Cooke was very consistent and thorough through the semester. He was really good at answering the questions and pairing his lectures with smokin notes got me an A. He is kind and genuinely cares about his students and he is readily available to help out. His lectures can be long but the information is interesting and watching them was important

He was a great professor and was great at explaining things, but the exams were so hard for no reason. I would say to make sure to keep up with the lectures and to do the smokin notes before the exams. The sim's were hard and the assignments took a lot of time. Overall. not a bad class though, and hes a good professor.

Lots of reading, but the lectures are amazing! He is clearly excited about what he teaches, and wants to get the students as enthusiastic about marketing as he is! He is quick to respond when you email him with questions. He made me wish I was taking the class in person!

The class is very heavy on reading, but it is manageable. Additionally, Dr. Cooke is a very engaging lecturer and is obviously enthusiastic about the subject. Personally, I didn't find the exams too hard since there are a large number of practice tests from previous years that are provided. The professor also responds quickly to emails.

I love Dr. Cooke! Watching his lectures was such a treat because he is so passionate about what he teaches. I studied a lot for this class to get an A because the exams are around 80% of your grade. The material is not hard as long as you study, just make sure to study! I made quizlets for each chapter and used his note shells for lectures!

He pulls questions from lectures/textbook, and has an appeal process as his questions can be worded poorly. He doesn't let you appeal if you take a makeup exam. Do his practice exams. Professor Alan is a great professor, you can definitively learn a lot from him. He makes the lectures enjoyable and you can feel the passion he has for marketing, be prepared to study and if you understand the subjects you will easily pass.

Professor Cooke did an amazing job and the class is quite frankly super easy as long as you take the time to actually do the homework and study well for the exams. Some advice I would give is to make sure that you read the text and if you are struggling, DO THE EXTRA CREDIT. Overall, Professor Cooke is great and his lectures are very fun.

Enthusiastic professor, but A LOT of material. Exams cover lectures + Textbook, I suggest make flashcards as you read!! Study vocab for exams and do practice exams (he offers plenty). You don't NEED Smokin notes, but prepare to put in a lot of work(I did not use smokin notes). Professor's lecturers are interesting + math reviews before exams.

The material is not particularly difficult, but because you HAVE to stay on top of work or you will get lost. Do not put off lectures/ readings in the class. Professor Cooke is an AMAZING professor and the reason I could remain interested during the class. Tests weight HEAVY. But study hard and it will pay off (and do the extra credit).

The exams are most of the grade and are not super hard but very content heavy. Don't just do the smartbook assignments, actually read the textbook and take notes. 50% of the exam is from the text and not mentioned in lecture. Smokin notes helped a lot to combine lecture and text material. He has the past 5 years of exams on canvas, do all of them.

Content heavy class but everything is super digestible. You can tell Prof Cooke cares and his lectures are engaging so try going!! I used Smokin Notes for all exams and studied max 5 hours for each and did super well - highly recommend investing. Also do the extra credit before the end of the semester it helps!
