Doesn't have control of the class

You can teach yourself if you know anything about algebra. He has no control over the class, you can run around naked and he wouldnt say a word to you. However, his class is fairly easy if you know what your doing. Curves exams by 10pts. at least.

This College Algebra class is pretty normal. Doesnt have much control over the class; but a good guy and decent teacher. Webwork is so easy. Don't be afraid to take the classs.

This class isn't hard at all. I barely attended this class. The only thing is, he takes attendance, but all you have to do is the webworks and the pratice exams to pass the tests. The text wasn't really needed, only if you need clarity for exams.

Holy Crap, if you want an easy A in College Algebra take this class. This guy's class is so easy, as long as you are not stupid. Your homework is on the intenet, and is graded, but it is very easy. If you want an easy College Algebra Class take his.

He's a nice teacher who cracks jokes every now and then. He helps you out tremendously with the webwork online, but sometimes in a round about way, he insults your intelligence.

Wow. If you took Algebra before now you'll be fine. He's helpful with WebWorks (the HW), practice tests online help alot with the tests, attendance counts. I think I opened my book like 4 times. He's rather nice too.

Dr. Dow will answer any questions on a personal basis or over the internet. Keep up with webwork and pay attention to lectures. The material isnt complicated and he presents it well

Dr. Dow is the easiest College Algebra professer at the entire university. If you suck at math this is the guy for you. A freaking goat could get an A or B in this class without trying.

Just go to lecture and the labs and you will get an A. Material is presented well and the tests are 18 questions(multiple choice) a piece. It is hard not to get at least a B.

Class is boring but the lab makes it so that you don't really have to go to the lecture. Tests are easy if you go to the labs.

Very simple class, just do your online homework known as webwork, and take your tests. Dr. Dow reviews every exam from top to bottom the week before and is easily obtainable by email. Just pay attention and do the Webwork!

Best algebra teacher at UNCC! He is the chair of the math dept. Very helpful, clear, and kind. A great teacher. Does not have a foreign accent. Just do the homework and come to class and listen and you should do well.

this teacher is amazing i wrote to him at 2am about the hw and he repliad with in 15 min. he is very helpfull and teaches well, he doesn't use book or hw. the only hw is online once a week mostly 20 problems great teacher i wish he was teaching calculus!

Really nice and very helpful! if you are struggling in the class he will take the time and make sure you understand...I'm not really a math person, but the class was easy. He gives sample test and just changes the numbers on the problems on the real test...only assigns webwork...I'd definately recommend taking him.

Mr. Dow was a great teacher. The homework is all webwork and he'll help you with it if you e-mail him. Tests weren't bad at all and if you need help you just have to ask him. Don't buy the textbook....you won't use it at all.

Dow is an extremely helpful teacher. If you have a question all you have to do is ask. The class was relatively easy and his tests were easy too. I actually learned more in there than when I took Calculus in HS. Don't buy the book I never touched it. Just keep up with the webwork and your grade will prosper(I didn't do most of it).

Really easy class but very boring esp. at 8 in the morning. Attendance is mandatory but you can walk in 10 mins before class is over and still get attendance. Alot of web work, test are easy all multiple choice. Overall boring but easy class. If you want an A or B take Dow!

This professor is the most helpful professor out there. He takes his time and patience to slowly explain what anyone does not understand and will further try and explain if that person still doesn't comprehend the lecture. Though he's like this, his lectures are boring, especially at 8 in the morning.

if you want to get an A take him he gives 10 point ponies on the attendance . easy multiple exams which are almost identical to the test review. His homework's on the webwork might look difficult but don't worry his exams are super easy. gives 3 test (20% on everyone of them and 10& on the exam that you got the worst grade.

The best teacher I took at UNCC- cares so much about is students and really made my time at that school worth it. Professor Dow is an excellent teacher. Must take!

Professor Dow is a sweetheart! He is very clear at explaining how to work a problem and is always willing to help! It was killer at 8 am but he kept me awake better than any other professor could! I definitely recommend him!

Most caring, patient, and understanding professor by far! He'll go out of his way to help you and always know what he's doing. Tests were easy because the review was almost identical and if there are any questions during any test, he's willing to still answer any questions. TAKE HIMMMM!!!

While some topics he goes over in this class are confusing, especially when he first explains them, he provides many oppertunities to get help. He's very lenient on the webwork due dates if you ask and the tests look almost exactly like the reviews. One of my easiest classes I would highly recommend taking it.

Extremely helpful. To check attendance, he does give out about 2-3 sample problems at the end of class to turn in. Great professor!

I deff recommend Professor Dow! He is sometimes hard to follow or understand but he will go the extra mile to help you pass the class. He answers his e-mail's fast and pretty much will help you with whatever you need help with! Webwork is a pain in the ass but he is good about giving you extensions if you need extra time.

Tries really hard, extremely helpful, it's my understanding he's one of the better math teachers..but it really helps to have a strong algebra background, he teaches off powerpoints so it can be hard to follow at times. Overall great guy, and a good teacher.

He is a pretty good prof. He teaches off powerpoints, so its best to come to class to see how he does it. Attendance is bonus points added on to final grade though. It's easy to get lost with him, but he is always willing to help with problems before class and responds to emails quickly. Overall, one of the better math professors.

He is nice and really helpful. WebWork is annoying but he answers e-mails really quick. Also coming to class is important so you can understand his power points daily and its extra points but a lot of people don't and they are fine. Overall, good teacher, good class

This teacher is very nice and extremellllly helpful. You do have to stay on top of your webwork but he extends deadlines when necessay. Tests aren't bad either

Extremely helpful and generous! He is very patient and flexible with his students. One of the few teachers that I feel very comfortable with going up to. Definitely recommend! To get good test grades, go to the review sessions because they are basically the tests

Great Professor. Very helpful just do the the online homework problems and you will get an easy A. He always spends the first 15min to response students questions and solve some web work problems. he uses the powerpoint for his lecture. the TA is very helpful and she worked with me alot. In fact, the practice tests are the real test

I took it online.we used the aleks pie, which took WAYY too much time. barely anyone in the class finished. its not hard, theres just too much work to do if you have 4 or 5 other classes.final is proctered at school.im good at algebra& could have gone right to pre-cal,but i took this so i didnt struggle.i ended up with a C bc i didnt finish the pie

DONT BUY TEXTBOOK. People told me not to, but I didn't listen. We NEVER use it. We also "webwork" each week which is an online homework website. Can be difficult sometimes. He helps if you email though. Responds within 10 mins usually and walks you through the problems. He is okay at teach though. Not the best but okay. Pretty boring but nice too

He's a very smart person and knows his stuff. He's big on WebWorks! DO THEM THEY ARE A TEST GRADE!! He does take attendance, but as a form of extra credit for your final grade! Miss no class = 10pts added to your final grade! DO NOT BUY THE BOOK! He's all PP & WebWorks. He responds to emails quick. He cares about his students.

Very boring class but it is very easy. Dow actually helps if you need it, all you have to do is ask. If you also sign up for his 8 am, attendance matters cause he'll give you 10 extra credit points added to your final grade.

If you're looking for a math class that is easy, take this one. The only homework is webwork every week which adds up to a test grade which easily will bring up your grade. If you attend his class he will give extra credit points which add on to your final so it is worth going to class, you'll even get a few laughs in sometimes.

Mr Dow is probably the best math teacher ive ever had. I have such a hard time with math and he and his TA really helped explain the material. If you dont study, however, the tests are going to be tough. Also, he has an awesome attendance policy where if you dont miss too many classes you will jump a full letter grade.

easy to understand compared to other math profs. you have do the webwork to pass unless you do well on the tests (there's only 3). the final was actually hard, but very similar to the previous ones. if he offers the extra credit for perfect attendance, come! the TA is extremely nice and helpful and so is he.

Take his class. So easy that it's almost sad. Three tests, all straightforward, and he posts practice tests that are so similar to the test. Attendance isn't mandatory, but he gives attendance quizzes for extra points, but I never showed up and still finished with an A. Easy final, online homework. Do yourself a huge favor and take this course.

This class was very easy to understand and I actually didn't mind doing the optional homework. He gives extra credit just for showing up... You'll take a 3 question quiz at the end of every class so don't skip!

I took this class at 8 am - don't recommend, and ended up skipping probably 8 classes. The homework is optional, but I would really suggest doing it if you're struggling. He responds to emails quickly and he seems like he really cares about his job.

Mr. Dow is my favorite professor I've had all semester. He responds to emails so quickly and always has a helpful answer. He's also very understanding about extending webwork deadlines. Theres only 3 tests, 3 practice tests, 15 webwork sets (test grade), and daily quizzes (attendance is extra credit). Super nice guy!

Mr. Dow's class was super easy! Come to class and you get extra credit points added to your final grade. He responds to your emails super quickly and is really helpful. All homework is online. I would definitely try and take this class!

Can get kinda bored in class, but take notes and right everything down, will not understand right away but take the time to sit down and figure the material out its not that bad. He made 2 out of 3 tests we took too long and most people didn't finish, but he curved the tests. Final grades got curved as well, 60-mid70 was a C, mid70-mid80 was a B.

Not so much that the material is hard than it is that the professor makes the questions harder than they need to be. You can tell he loves math as it shows in the difficulty of hw and tests. He does make up for this though with lax grading and curved grades. He grades knowing how to do a problem more than getting the right answer. Doable, not easy.

Awesome professor! He's really sweet and helpful. If you come every day, you should be able to pass with a high grade. He gives 10 extra credit points if you come every day. If you have any questions, email him, and he will reply asap. You don't need to buy the textbook unless you want extra help for yourself. Overall great class and professor.

DiffEq is a reasonably hard course, so it's not an "easy-A" with him, but he is VERY helpful. Responds to emails in like 5-10 minutes, and he's very easy to find in his office.

It is hard to understand where he is when he is going over lectures in class. However, where he really shines is responding to his e-mail for any questions about homework or questions from the class. Really wants each student to learn and succeed.

Best math teacher I have ever had. Amazing at explaining concepts, amazing at teaching. Easy tests if you take advantage of the test review. Honestly would take him over John Taylor.

He doesn't do the best job of explaining concepts, or explaining steps of a problem, but he's willing to help you if you need it. If you're putting in the work, and he can see that, then he's going to be slightly more lenient on the grading. At the end of the day, it was obvious to me that he Dow cared about his students, and that goes a long way

Very nice, he is very lenient on turning in late work. We use Hawkes, and whenever you get something overdue, just email the reason to him, and as long as he sees that you work hard, he will extend to due date for you. Very caring, always open for questions. He responds to all emails, and his homework and tests are easy. Overall, great teacher!

For College Algebra he is a good teaching if you are semi-good at math. Others here have felt he teaches fast but I have been pretty bored in his class but I watch the preclass videos and do assignments before class. He drops lowest grades and gives a lot of homework to pad your grade. Attendance counts as extra credit.

In class, his lectures are hard to follow because he goes at a pretty good pace and doesn't take a break. However, if you have any questions, he will address them well. He is one of the fastest email responders I've know as a professor. He helps out the class on tests with a boost or curve every now and then. TEST REVIEWS ARE IMPORTANT, USE THEM!!!

Differential equations is not an easy class, but he will do everything to help you pass. Responds extremely quick to emails, he will even work out problems for you over email. He has test reviews that he goes over before tests that are basically the same. A lot of people did poorly on a test so he just gave everyone 5 extra points. Take Prof Dow!

Clear, easy to follow lectures, with enough homework to really make course content stick and extremely fair tests. Dr. Dow is very kind and is always willing to clarify issues, and will even often push back homework deadlines on request.

Its math so of course it's difficult. However Professor Dow is an amazing teacher especially when it comes to Algebra. Only problem is he talks extremely but the remedy to that is sit up front. He is a true TEACHer and will try any and every approach to comfort your learning standards

This class is easy, if you do all the Hawkes activities before class. After every class, we have to do a hand in and its counted as attendance. Not an easy A class but if you put in the time and effort, youll get a good grade!

He's a meh teacher but the content is easy and the class is doable

He cares a lot, and if you pay attention in class you will excel. I stopped attending class because I was a senior/sick of the online classes, so I tanked a test. Alan was responsive and helpful with my attempt to get on track. He responds to your questions within hours by email, and will help you out a lot during office hours. Tough class tho

Professor Dow is amazing! He encourages question and responds to emails almost immediately, so don't hesitate to reach out to him if you need help! 2 short quizzes + webwork every week. The textbook is a free ebook. The course is not easy, but if you go to class and try to understand the material as soon as possible, you should do well.

A very good professor who clearly knows what he is talking about. Gives a lot of difficult homework, but is very accessible and willing to help. It's also just a difficult subject. He will give you study guides before tests - use them!

Great professor, I took his class online over summer lectures and assignments straightforward. Gives a lot of office hours when you drop in to ask any questions. Good at explaining things. Course content is also great and fun to learn. I would 100% recommend anyone take this.

Professor Dow was a very careful and thorough lecturer. He did everything he could to make sure the class was caught up on material and was ready for any upcoming tests or assignments. Online homework assignments were clear and helpful for explaining any misunderstood material. He is also one of the nicest and warmest professors I've encountered.

Great professor who explains concepts well. Short quizzes and weekly webworks, both with unlimited attempts. He is open to questions, responds quickly to emails, and is very pleasant. The practice tests provided on Canvas are helpful for reviewing for exams. Some concepts can be hard to grasp so stay consistent with studying and don't skip class.

Alan Dow was a great teacher and understood the content very well. His lectures are good but some concepts were easier to understand from the homework. He was very friendly and personable and did everything he could to help us pass. He records great test reviews of past tests that are very similar. He rounded my final grade up a few points to an A.

Took course online. Was very available w.r.t. office hours/emails. Clear course expectations and grading as well. Linear Algebra heavy course though.

I thought the class was pretty easy first unit but I was master baited. It picks up very fast but the professor is good and don't get lazy. Very interesting class, would take again and recommend to everyone!

Practice tests are the tests, up to 8% extra cred, lectures can be hard to understand but posts all his notes and videos. If you study then it's an easy A. Office hours can be helpful if you don't understand something. VERY leinent grader if he can understand your thought process you get a lot of partial credit.

He's a wonderful, kind professor. Extends assignments and quizzes how much ever you need if you ask him. His videos are useful, only feedback would be if he could possibly read less off the notes and show examples more interactively in class. A better and cleaner organized canvas page would be useful too.

The class starts off easy but picks up quickly. The professor is helpful and responsive, though the material can be challenging. Consistent studying and attending class are key. unstuckstudy was a great tool to supplement my prep.

Great professor! Go to lectures, please! Very good at teaching the material. He is willing to help outside of the classroom as well if needed and is simply a good, happy guy. No complaints here. There is a lot of homework (like one assignment every other day).

A very kind professor and always there to help when needed. Don't miss classes bc I found the textbook not helpful (found out the hard way), but if you do show up and pay attention you should have no problem in the class. Homework is 1 assignment per lecture and 1 weekly assignment which is more than others but not bad at all. Take him if possible

This was my third time taking this class, and he was amazing at teaching the topic and I managed to get a 98 in the class. He explains the topics extremely well, just make sure you actually show up and pay attention and he will make sure you do well.

Weekly 1 quiz & 2-3 HWs (10 questions), all straightforward. Very test-heavy: 3 Tests = 45%; Final = 30% (can replace lowest test score or entire course grade if exceptional). +5 extra credit to final average for perfect attendance via exit tickets. Professor Dow is patient, an excellent mentor, and the best teacher ever. I wish him all the best.

One of the nicest professors ever. Make sure to attend all lectures (the textbook doesn't really help) and always get the homework done on time.

This professor is great. He offers a myriad of resources and attendance was offered for extra credit. I found this class extremely difficult but professor Dow was supportive and never made me feel bad about having a difficult time with the class.
