Funny, orginal, fun-loving guy that will regail you with his travel stories. You never know what he will do next in class, and believe me, you'll want to go to class. Oh and he's a good teacher too, hehe.
Great teacher, generous marker.
He is the best In Concordia
Very cheery
take as many credits with him as you can. the entire department loves him.
definitely take him. Encourages students....it's just all good, he's the man so take him
really nice guy, funny, but his lectures were really boring and were without structure, made it hard to follow. Other than that, good teacher
Very cheerful and super nice!!!!
amazzzzzzzzing teacher I almost switched major for tis guy! hes the funniest guy at concordia, you don't know what he'll do next. at one point he started throwing bags of chips at us!! I love him!
great teacher, fun, entertaining
OK you lazies! he is extremely nice and funny but he teaches you nothing. there was no challenge. If you want an easy grade and a new friend take Nash's class, if you go to school to learn....do not study with this professor.
A gentleman and a scholar.
amazingly nice guy, good analysis of issues, sweet sweet person, had a lot of fun in class, made me feel like going to class even with other assignments and work loads
Very nice guy. Approachable. Encourages questions and comments. Easy marker. A bitter scattered lecture structure, overheads never seem to fit screen. Makes learning enjoyable. Clearly loves his job and wants everyone to have a good time. Highly recommended.
Professor Nash is a very nice person but his slow and, well, _nice_ style of teaching will bore you terribly if you are an impatient type.
Great!
If you zone out, you hate yourself for missing his jokes when you realize everyone's laughing. Such an awesome guy, knows his stuff and makes you want to be in class and listen just so you don't hurt his feelings! He makes everything seem easy, just don't skip your readings!!
Lectures are off topic but entertaining- the test is based completely on the book so you don't even really need to take notes in class. Funny, smart prof, makes the subject interesting...
talk about an easy class for an elective. 4 assignments no midterm no final. SIIIIICK!
easiest class ever ! entertaining teacher, very funny. would take him again.
Great Prof, very easy understand and easy to talk too. The tests in themselves are quite easy. Only reason I got a C- was due to not handing in a project worth 25%. Definitely recommend taking his course however, its easy marks if you put in the effort.
He is fantastic! Very clear and helpful. His tests are super-easy! He's got a cute sense of humour and is very likeable. I highly recommend taking his courses.
AMAZING teacher. Really makes you think about the topics! His humor is British Style, sort of dry and witty. Makes references to "2 and a Half Men" and William Shatner... only thing that sucks are his slides, but atleast he posts them. His food tasting labs are fun! Super approachable.
He's terrific. Clear, friendly, and helpful. Loves his subject and is extremely knowledgeable. I love his little anecdotes and sense of humour. He's kind of adorable! This course was easy and subject matter was interesting. No textbook, but lots of small readings online. Most were pretty interesting too. 3 assignments (kind of fun)- no mid-term!
Great professor! Extremely entertaining. He isn't too difficult either. I highly recommend him.
amazing teacher!! very clear, helpful and approachable. his tests are pretty easy but every little detail counts. he has an amazing sense of humor and keeps the class entertaining. I would HIGHLY recommend him!
Dr. Nash was a very pleasant, helpful and knowledgeable prof. I took Geog 220 with him, which was quite easy I found, but you still had to study to get a good mark. I found it interesting also, but then again, I'm a nerd.
I love this teacher! He is caring and helpful. He comes in dressed to match his topics! Brought raw potatoes, pineapples and coconuts to demonstrate how they "migrated" around the world. Very funny and charming.
I started off the semester thinking he was great- until our midterm. Completely trivial and superficial questions- you basically just have to memorize dates, numbers and percentages. As well as the authors of every journal mentioned in the course- and you'll do better than if you go in actually knowing the concepts and theories.
Completely agree with the previous comment. The midterm was a disaster. It was solely based on memorization of dates, % and authors. Love the teacher but the midterm was not a correct representation of your knowledge of the theories, concepts and course content.
Great prof! Super funny. Makes classes engaging and enjoyable. Take this class if you want to slober as he talks about food for an hour and a half, and occasionally brings snacks for us. 10% of the grade was given for eating chocolate and tasting spices.
Amazing teacher and very interesting class...
Great guy and an easy class overall . The key is going to class as most of the test material is based on the power points he thoroughly described in class
Alan Nash is a pretty cool professor. Attendance isn't necessarily mandatory because the lectures are given in the large auditorium in the Hall building. He posts all his slides before class so its great if you can't make it to class. Be wary of his quizzes though! He knows people do not attend class regularly.
Great guy, funny. Although i don't get the point of the class. It's kind of everywhere. Each class is a completely different topic and while some where interesting i find this class overall pointless. Feels like a high school history class. Luckily he's great. He asks weird questions on test though.... You can easily pass the class though.
You need an easy elective? Take this course with Nash. He's a wonderful prof, but I did find the course lacking for a university level class... You do your readings, memorize, and memorize his powerpoint, and BOOM, easy A. Network accordingly and maybe you can find old tests to help you study. This class didn't challenge me at all...
Awesome. Intellectual. Direct. Funny.
His exams are really hard and tricky.
Attendance isn't mandatory, but he does give little activities to check if you are there every once in awhile which counts as 10% of your grade. I expected it to be an easy class, but I felt like his tests asked trivial questions, such as, "Where is the pineapple from?" Kinda disappointing, but he is nice and approachable.
Professor Nash is great! He really knows his stuff and makes some pretty heavy topics very interesting! Looking forward to taking more classes with him!
Jolly English man. Gives 3 random attendance grades, so it's a gamble if you skip class. Lectures can drag but he tries to keep them interesting. I enjoyed his sense of humor. Can be hard to know what to study, but he reviews all the material and the multiple choices rarely have more than 2 answers that make any sense.
Great teacher. Easy to get good grades.
Hes super funny and is a very happy-go-lucky kinda person. He always make sure the class fun and light, and uses anecdotes to make you understand the content better. Remember to take notes and focus on his slides more than the book. His tests are easy, as long as you do your readings and know geographical locations of countries. Have fun!
He is quite funny and has good stories to tell. My only issue with this class was that all the exams were Multiple Choice exams which means there's a lot of memorizing. I wasn't particularly interested in the class and just needed an elective and this prof was the right call. Study the material and all will be well. More of an easy B than easy A.
Super funny and makes the lectures zoom by. Only problem is that his tests are literally impossible, after not doing too hot on the first exam i asked him what to study and i did everything he said and still barely passed it. So great guy but tests are going to destroy you unless im just stupid
I found it very hard to stay focused in his lectures because they were so boring and he often jumps around when presenting information. His tests are extremely lecture/ powerpoint based so definitely don't make the mistake of skipping class. If you take really detailed notes you should be fine for the tests.
The class in general is easy. Lectures are a bit boring, the teacher speaks slowly but jokes time to time. Read the book for the exams but just selected material that he will tell you. The final is not accumulative. The only thing the timing is super tight during the midterm and final. Midterm: 75 mc/10 map question, 1h and final: 80 mc /10 map 2h
Alan Nash is a fine professor. He is very knowledgeable, funny and we also got a free bag of chips during a class. This semester was only one midterm/one final, so if it stays the same, get ready to cover a lot of material. It is easy, but you have to study at least 10-12 topics per test. Easy class if you're dedicated.
I enjoyed Alan's class. While the topics could be dull at times, he would crack jokes and try to make it interesting. The grading scheme only consisted of a midterm and final, which I liked. I wouldn't say the class is an "easy A" but if you put the work in, you can get a decent grade.
Alan is hilarious in that dry, British sort of way. His lectures and slides are interesting and fun. I didn't use the textbook that much. There is only the midterm and final so you should really prepare for them. Make note of the PLACES he talks about in class because there are map questions on the exams.
Probably my favourite class I have taken so far. It's nice to come to class and have a prof. that has a good sense of humour and is down to earth. He has an amusing obsession with cemeteries. Some of the lectures could be a bit dull but that's expected of most classes. Pretty easy to get an A if you put in the effort.
Really laid-back, funny guy who gives thoughtful and interesting lectures.
Interesting material, easy class, no assignments. 2 tests, 1 exam.
Super nice guy and a fair grader. His lectures are a little dry but you dont need to attend to get a good grade.
Hes very sweet and easy going. Really easy class, only two midterms and a final exam and its all multiple choice. The final is cumulative so its a LOT of information to study but even then this class doesnt take much effort and its easy to pass.
not a bad choice for an elective
Alan is one of the nicest professors I have had the chance of having. Lectures are fairly straight forward, but he often gets off track to talk about his travels. Grade is only based off of midterm and final exam, and he reuses questions from previous exam and study guide that he puts online.
Very sweet old man who makes the class laugh. He is very passionate, so the class is more interesting. You are graded on 3 multiple choice tests, but the questions are sometimes random so its hard to get an A+ unless you study literally everything possible.
Very knowledgable prof in his subject matter. Knew a lot and had very interesting lectures, which are non-mandatory but would recommend going if you are interested in food! Assignments were very straightforward, and fun to write! Great prof who stimulated a great atmosphere in class, would reccomend
Good and well-spoken guy who's passionate about his class and knows his stuff. I guess you can skip class and learn from the slides but you'd be missing out on his interesting lectures.
He is an amazing professor. He is very knowledgeable in his field. The lectures can be a bit boring sometimes due to its contents, but he tries his best to make it interesting. He is a respected professor who explains the topics very nicely.
Funny, compelling, knowledgeable and passionate prof. No assignment; 3 multiple choices exams. Show up to class as some questions in the exams concern specifics discussed in class. Otherwise, study the slides for the exams. Recommended!
Professor Nash is a goofy British man who loves to tell jokes, bring props, and engage the class. You definitely should attend class because he puts things from our discussions on the exam that he won't mention from the book or slides. Super easy course and fun class to take.
All I can say is Professor Nash is the absolute best! Sometimes his classes can be a bit dry, but he always makes up for it with his good sense of humour. He assigned 4 essays, which were all enjoyable to write and he allowed you to be creative on your topic. I wish he taught more classes, so I could take him again.
Alan Nash is by far my favorite professor. He's really funny and has lots of knowledge. Took him for geog 220, his classes are interesting but it can get boring at times and it does drags on. However, he posts practice quizzes to help us prepare for the exam and it's an easy A class . Would recommend and definitely would want to take him again!
Although the lectures are non mandatory (there are no exams, only 4 assignments), I definitely recommend going for the knowledge, expertise, passion and sense of humour of this respected prof. He offered quite a bit of flexibility in approaching our assignments, which made them enjoyable to write. World of Food: take it!
The course with Mr. Nash is graded by two test, one that's worth 25%, the other 35% and then the final, which is 45%. You can do well for this course if you study his slides hard, where he gives you mock tests, although some of the questions can be very specific. Text book can help to achieve a better grade but is not required to succeed. That's it
I love professor Nash!! He always makes the class laugh and is so kind and caring. I love his obsession with Death in Geography. Super cool guy.
Really sweet teacher, feels like having your grand-pa tell you history stories. There is somewhat a lot of theory but it is easy to get a grasp. One of the best teachers I've had!
He is a really passionate teacher and clearly loves what he does. I would recommend going to the lectures because he mentions things that are on the test and that aren't on the powerpoints. Loved this class
One of my favourite professors at the university. His lectures are interesting, he's hilarious, very understanding and responds quickly to e-mails. The way he teaches makes this class fun to learn. I recommend taking it and suggest listening in class, he gives a lot of the answers to quiz questions :)
WHAT A GUY! Seriously I would have him teach every class of mine if I could. He made what I found a boring topic really fun. He makes a lot of wholesome dad jokes. The grading is just 2 midterms and a final-- really simple, but make sure to note the places he discusses in class because you'll have to mark them on a blank map on exams!
Alan Nash is a great guy, genuine, caring, funny, and a great teacher ! Unlike many other instructors, he has a good structure to his online classes and does not have a major workload. I have learned lots in his class and done very well with minimal studying out of class. His tests are easy if you pay attention and understand the concepts.
Prof Nash is the best!!!! I'm in first year, so I don't have much to compare him to, but everyone says the professor can make or break a class and he makes this one so exciting to learn. I've never looked forward to a class more than I look forward to this one every week! He's very funny & charming, and you can tell he loves what he does.
Despite this course being online, Alan still gave fascinating and enjoyable lectures. Attending class was so worth it (helps with the tests too). Super sweet and genuine guy. He was always happy to answer questions and engage with students. Explains concepts well and includes fun photos and stories from his travels. A passionate geographer!
I am not sure if he was trying to grade harder because of COVID and the class being online, but he really screwed everyone over for the last test. He made the questions impossible to answer and was harsh with the grading. This class is considered an easy A however the final grade only had a few people who received any As.
I was annoyed at how nonchalant he is, but he treats your ideas with the highest respect and is very understanding. Sometimes feels like you are the prof, but I am thankful to have had someone willing to listen to my geography theories. You teach yourself, but he facilitates it really easily and you end up learning a lot if you are open to the idea
Nash is one of the best profs at Concordia. He is super knowledgeable, funny, understanding and full of fun adventurous stories.. The course is easy if you follow his lectures and readings. His exams can get a tad bit tricky and challenging sometimes but it's totally worthy you take the class. Take him with no hesitation!
Alain Nash has to be the nicest, most passionate, and most interesting teacher I have had. He loves what he teaches, and you can tell. I took some classes as electives just because they were taught by him. Try the Nash experience you wont regret!
Great class and amazing professor, definitely wants you to engage in the class and really likes to talk about personal examples which helps you grasp the concepts. Would definitely recommend the class and the professor to any student, whether it is an elective or a core class.
He encourages participation and knowing his students by giving questions where you email and have a chance to directly communicate with him. I love how he listens to what his students have to say and always respects their points of view. This is the prof you'd take who is good for your mental health and where you are actually motivated to learn.
Obviously loves the subject and that's reflected in the way he teaches, which made the lectures enjoyable. Aside from the lectures, he was extremely understanding of everyones' situations and a nice guy all around!
I liked Alan a lot, and loved the laid back feeling of the class. I felt I learned a lot of interesting stuff. I wish we had written essays like the previous classes mentioned, seems more suited to the class. The final was a bit nervewracking because of the open ended questions, I felt like batting with a blindfold on. I would take him again tho.
Alan Nash is a Concordia gem! By far, he is the most kind, patient and understanding professor I've ever had. Love it when he adds in his personal anecdotes and research to the lectures.
His class was fine but there's only three test so beware how you do well on them. Read the powerpoint very thoroughly before attempting the exams.
He is a really good teacher and everybody loves him. However, his class are sometimes long and boring but in general I would recommend to take him if you want an easy A.
As a major student in Arts & Science, I only have 42 credits for my degree. The rest of the credits could be seen as electives. I swear to god, Alan is one of the best and most caring professors in my 4 years at Concordia. He replies to emails so quickly and helps me get to a better graduate school, as he is one of my referees. Take him! Respect!
Professor Nash is, in my opinion, one of the best professors at Concordia. His lectures are long and heavy but his Power Points are always clear and he always makes time to answer your questions. He clearly loves what he teaches and tries to make the classes as light hearted and fun as possible. No papers and only 3 tests.
Very caring and understanding. Great lecturer and an overall great guy.
BEST prof I've had at Concordia! Dr. Nash is very kind & knowledgeable. He creates a positive & engaging environment in class that makes you want to attend class even though it's not mandatory! You can tell the prof loves what he teaches + he provides very detailed and helpful feedbacks for assignments. Wish I could take more classes with him!
He's genuinely hilarious while holding an interesting lecture. He has an English accent which makes it more interesting to listen to. Solid professor.
Prof. Nash is one of my favorite professors so far. I took GEOG220 as an elective and for me personally, it was interesting here and there. The lectures can get a little boring sometimes. But his class is easy and it shouldn't be hard to get a good score on his tests if you take notes. He's also very funny and encourages participation.
Without a doubt the funniest guy at Concordia. His course is a mix of interesting geography facts & tangents explained through slides and his holiday photos (you'll see what i mean). Don't take this course expecting heavy theory though, the lectures are there just to make you think and the exams are easy mpc.
Professor Nash was such a joyful and funny teacher. His tests were fairly straightforward and he provides a study guide. The map questions were hard so pay attention to places he mentions throughout the unit. He reminds me of Wallace from Wallace and Gromit. Lovely man.
One of the best professors EVER
I wish every single professor at Concordia was like him. He's truly an inspiration. Funny, caring, accessible... and the list goes on. I only have positive things to say about him.
Nice man who is clearly passionate about geography, but his lectures are super dry and he jumps around and skips slides, making it confusing to follow. His tests don't actually test you on concepts learned in class but whether you know obscure facts posted in his poorly organized and overly-long PowerPoints. I would recommend another elective.
A wonderful professor that uses a humor in his lectures, making them engaging. Very easy to speak to, cares deeply about his students, and very accommodating. Only thing is that his tests can benefit from providing questions that are relevant to the students understanding of the course rather than obscure facts taken from his long PowerPoints.
Great professor, was in his final year of teaching at Concordia. Definitely study and need to know the material for the exams but its worth the effort if you put the energy into it. He has a smart, funny British humor about him. Very motivational and inspirational, more professors should aspire to be like this man. Enjoy your retirement!!
