Pretty good teacher. Don't really need to do the reading because he pretty much lectures everything in the readings. Tests are pretty tough because they are more application of what you have learned instead of straight memorization.

This is a pretty tough subject. He may be intimidating at first, but he actually pretty good and not so tough at all. He lectures very thoroughly, which helps a lot since one of the books is pretty tough to understand on one's own.

theory is a tough class, but he made it easy to learn. a group project, 2 or 3 out of class essays and a short answer/essay final. good teacher who likes discussion/participation but doesnt require it.

He takes attendence, his tests are all based on his lectures, but his tests are kind of hard. I got an A in the class but that is only because I took SOC 354 with him and already knew his teaching style.

He was very helpful and understanding. It is a little difficult to understand him at times, but he explains himself thoroughly.

After the first class meeting I almost dropped. I was dreading the group project & the class in general. However, I'm glad I stuck with it. It's not the easiest class to understand but Emery was fair with grades & the assignments were not that difficult. I received an A.

A good teacher with good intentions. An interesting subject to learn about, he makes it interesting and has fun with it. 2 exams, easy if you study concepts. One paper, with chance to re-write. One project, easy if you ask for assistance. Extra credit opportunities available.

I really enjoyed this professor. If you keep up in the class and understand what's going on, you will get an A. He uses a lot of films to help make theory clear. I got an A in the class, but I do know quite a few people who felt it was very difficult and got poor grades. I learned a lot.

Very interesting and lively young guy! He is very intelligent and offers much to the classroom. He is originally from South Africa and has great stories and insight into our political situation. Take him!

LOVE HIM! I've taken him for three semesters in a row. I definitly recommend him as a teacher! very clear and always gives extra points when needed.

I don’t know what everyone’s complaining about. Emery is absolutely brilliant! Yes, it’s a tough class and he has high expectations, but he loves the subject so much that it makes you interested as well.

i've taken 3 different courses! he's great! he has powerpoint presentations open to discussion and debate makes you think and makes the material at hand easy to understand. he's very chill and laid back, follow his guidelines and its a easy A. you watch great modern movies in class and there is so much extra credit, its HARD not to get an A!

I ended up really liking theories. You do have to work hard in his class, but an A is definitely possible. He is very helpful, and wants all his students to do well. But, you do have to read the material, the book, and attend class. otherwise, you will be lost. I recommend him!

i love him, his classes are structured & if you can handle structure its an easy A. im taking an intersession class w/him now. he loves sociology & his voice falls well on the ears. i enjoyed this class though not a lot of frills.

Class content is very interesting. He can be a bit dull in his lectures, and pushes his views strongly. I wouldn't recommend challenging him unless you have strong arguments. No textbook, but uses a cp. One group project and one paper. Easiest class I've taken at csuf.

I don't know why the fuss. He's got a great accent, he's helpful, he's passionate about the material. He makes it relevant to real life. So far, great class.

Mr. Emery is overall a good teacher. He is laid back and is willing to work with students. His lectures are pretty bland, but they are helpful on the quizes and tests. I would definetly reccommend him.

If half of you would have just opened your minds to the topic, you may have felt the same rewards that I feel right now! I LOVED Dr. Emery's class. I walked in at the beginning of the semester HATING theory and I walked out at the end LOVING it! He made it sooo interesting! He gave over 70 points of extra credit AND allowed rewrites of BOTH papers!

I was enrolled in his city life class last semester. It was great...lots of films and pics, and a trip to Venice Beach. Like his style and organization. Am taking his Soc of Gender now. Its REALLY nice.

I took his online Writing class in the summer. Great class. Good feedback. Now I'm in his theory class which is much better than I thought it would be.

This class is not easy, buy not extremely difficult if you apply yourself. I had to work pretty hard to get a B, including all the EC he gives. Took it online and it wasn't bad. Quite a bit of work each week, but enjoyable class. I enrolled in his writing class also for Spring. Highly recommended professor!

Very practical class with lots of useful information and learning for other classes in my major.

I was a bit apprehensive coming into theories with Emery, but I actually found his class and the material to be totally manageable! There's 10 quizzes, two film papers, and a cumulative final exam--plus he offers extra credit! I ended up getting an A+ in his class.

Small readings given, which he discusses in class. Online quizzes given often which are majority of the points towards grade but it's open book. attendance not mandatory but counts towards grade. TONS OF EXTRA CREDIT GIVEN, most of it is easy points!! I passed bc of extra credit..very straight forward, knows his sociology!

Uses course pack reader. Really great reading to learn theory. Very organized online class. Awesome.

Dr. Emery is the best! His brilliant teaching style and charismatic personality make the class super interesting and engaging. Besides, he is such a nice, sweet person! He was always very friendly, approachable, and helpful when I went to his office or called him. I learned so much from him, and I can't wait to have him as my teacher again!!

Personally, I think the subject is a complete waste of time. But if you have to take the class, take it with him. Easy A!! Tests are right off the notes. Although he doesn't seem too passionate about the course and it can get boring. Take him if you want an easy A.

It is an easy class if you read and just follow directions on assignments. The material is interesting and self explanatory. You have weekly discussion boards, essay, a small assigment at the end and an online midterm and final. He is easy to approach for help and is very friendly. Only negative is he never answers his emails.

PROS:Easy course, tests are straight from books, easy grader on assignments and readings aren't too boring. CONS: Doesn't respond to emails, changes deadlines at the last minute and is unclear about how things need to be done. OVERALL: Easy enough to get a good grade and professor is a great lecturer.

Online class. Posts lectures online so it made it easier to understand material. Extremely helpful at answering questions and gave a huge/easy extra credit op. Weekly Discussion Boards, 2 short writing assignments, 2 short newspaper assignments, weekly quizzes which you have all semester to complete and a final. Great professor and great class.

Currently taking the on-line class. If you put in the effort you will get an A. He requires a course reader, but I opted to by the materials separated on-line. Not only did I get the required article, but I bought collections of 5 different theorist's writings for the same price as the reader.

PROF. EMERY IS VERY HELPFUL AND QUITE FUNNY WHEN WE MET IN CLASS FOR REVIEWS. I TOOK THE ONLINE CLASS AND ITS IS ALOT OF WORK TO BE HONEST. IF YOUR WORKLOAD IS HEAVY THIS WILL ADD ON. HOWEVER, HE IS PASSIONATE AND EASY TO COMMUNICATE WITH. ITS EASY TO FALL BEHIND IF YOU DON;T DO QUIZZES OR DB'S. GOOD CLASS OVERALL!

Pretty easy class. Took it online. Prof assigns 1-2 chapter per week, (easy) and give ppt breakdown & audio file. He supply's REAL question that will be on the exams, WITH ANSWERS!! Exams were about 10-15 questions each. Hes real big on concepts, so pay attention to those. Overall it was a great class and I learned a lot. I will def take him again.

I took this class online . This class was super easy. His lecture are not the most interesting & at times a little boring.If you just listen to his lectures and do the work there is no way you shouldn't get an A in the class. He also gives extra credit for every little thing. When he messes up he will give you 10 extra credit points.

He's a great professor! He provides audio lectures and power points to help understand the theories. The workload is divided into weekly sections. It is not so bad if you stay on schedule. He is very helpful. He gives quite a bit of extra credit. Easy A if you complete all the assignments.

Such a breath of fresh air. Been in school 8 years and he is the first to give really good feedback on assignments and answers your questions. Love it! Also, the assignments require excellent feedback from classmates. Really invaluable comments that are so appreciated. I am learning so much in his class. It's exciting!

I recommend taking this class online. He provides recordings which I suggest printing out the power point and making notes. Dont wait to the end to do all the tests. Discussion boards are weekly. The movies we watch fit really well with the topic and are wonderful to watch. I did not read the reader but it's helpful for quotes on tests.

Took his class online. He gives extra credit for absolutely everything. Compared to the other SOC online classes he gives a ton of work, however it is all super easy no-brainer work. Spend about 3 hours max listening to lectures/doing assignments. I got a 97% in the class, even after failing the final. Do the extra credit...it matters in the end!

Dr. Emery is awesome. Took soc 410 (Theory) online during summer (5 week course) was a little scared at first, but he is very clear on all assignments and work load is not overwhelming at all. All assignment directions are very clear along with grading criteria. MANY EXTRA CREDIT OPPORTUNTIES!and he responds quickly to ?s! RECOMMEND!

Professor Emery is the ONLY professor you should consider for SOC 410. He gave SO much extra credit! There were many (easy) opportunities to get extra credit. It's nice to see Professors who teach effectively but also give students a break to help us out. He is extremely understanding, approachable, and fair. Take him and no one else!

Professor Emery is a jewel!! Be sure to listen and pay attention to his lectures, and take notes from them, even if this is not easy! He will give you 90% of test answers here! ANY time you need help, just let him know! You will learn a tremendous amount in his class if you apply yourself! Lots of extra credit is available.

Best professor. Clear promts and assignments. have taken him for various courses and continue to take him! TONS of extra credit, cancelles class on occasion, likes to make jokes and engage with his students. not much textbook use on my behalf and only really skimmed through book. quizes and tests can be tricky but not that bad. Nothing but A's!

SOCI 371 online winter session.. I must say this is the easiest class ever. A lot to do within this short course, but all work provided was a reasonable and very easy. every time he messes up or confuses us.. we receive 5 points in extra credit.. received 50+ points in XC. Dont know how moronic you would have to be to fail this class..

Total of 5 small "tests" + mid term and a final. Test points out of 500.. i averaged 70% on all test and still managed to pass the class with an solid A. Big time extra credit for almost anything and everything. Final grade is out of 1000, and I received 60 in extra credit points. lots of very easy work, EZPZ! "A" is almost guaranteed !

Emery is wonderful. He knows what he teaches and he does it well. Unfortunately we just had a lot of jerks in the class who never participated and I felt like he got discouraged. Anyway, he gives so much extra credit it's gotta be impossible not to pass. His notes are great and his tests aren't tough. Take him if you're serious about theory.

Professor Emery is the only teacher you should take for Soc 410. I took this class online and he made theories so approachable. There is lots of extra credit and plenty of work to get a decent grade in the class. Show interest and try. You will do great.

I took him online and it was great he made theory easy. If you watch the lectures every week and you understand them then there is no reason you should get lower than an A. He gave a lot of extra credit points as well.

Took this during the summer. Made us write a paper a week with a rough draft and final draft. Had to peer edit a couple papers for credit. Let you write about anything you wanted. Easy prompts. You need the book for the tests he gives on the reading. Do the reading its for the test. However, the reading was insightful.

Prof. makes things clear and assignments are reasonable. An A is attainable, just be on top of everything.
