he tells it how it is which makes the class very intersting.
He's really a fun guy. Our class did more laughing did we did actual work. But he presented the material in a way we could definately relate. He has many interesting stories to tell. Easy A.
Excellent professor. Real-life applications of the material.
Great Professor! Applies material to the real world. He's also very funny. Has great stories to tell!!
Best class I ever had! Easiest A I ever got!!!

Did not learn anything. 2nd part of the semester completely disorganized. Sad that the college allowed this person to teach. He missed numerous classes. Had lectureres present who bored the class to death, he was not present. No credit for classparticipati
By far the worst professor. You learn nothing. He teaches law not psych. He doesn't bother to know anyone's names and never gives an A. I received a B, with grades of 92, 96 and Pass for the paper. He's insane and should not be allowed to teach.
should not be allowed to teach. Students complain every semester about grades and he laughs about it. Disgusting that the college allows him to teach. Students should sue the dept for allowing him to teach
Wonderful professor with a great sense of humor and extraordinary ability to teach. I have had a lot of fun in this class and really enjoyed it.
you will not get credit for class participation, attendance or writing a good paper.anybody who say this class is educational is plain stupid and will leave the class stupid because you do not learn anything.
This professor doesnt really teach and his reviews are pointless. I got a B in the class because of knowledge from previous classes. If you want to learn then don't take this class. but if you want to slack off this is the perfect class for you.
do not waste your time writing a great paper (NO CREDIT) do not buy the assigned text (DO NOT NEED IT) i studied alone, in groups, alone and in other groups final grade B+ UNFAIR

People that say you will get an A are lying because he never gives A's. the man doesn't the paper you do nor does he care about attendance either. you will get more than a C on the class guaranteed but you will not learn anything academically.
He knows the law well, so he is able to teach from logic and experience. If looking for academics, this isn't the course. He may run off a few notes, the rest of class will be strictly interaction. It's a fun class, but not typical. A is hard to come by.
He is an easy professor rumor has it that he doesn't change his midterm. (find a copy and study it) Other than that i learned a lot from him when it comes to the admendments. It helps that he is a lawyer, he has good stories
Anyone who didnt like Flexor is a whiner. He's hilarious, knows the law from personal experience..not a txtbook like some profs, & the exams arent bad if you pay even a little attention. I got an A w/o breaking a sweat. I totally recommend. Hes great.
I got an A in his class because I listened to the lectures, sure he talks about his experiences as a Lawer, but their is a reason why he is telling those stories. Listen you can please some of the people some of the time, etc.. I am glad I took his class. He is funny, down to earth and approachable
flexer has the best stories to tell and he's super funny! he has cool and cute guest speakers too. his tests are multiple choice and it's not hard at all. really do hand in the paper on time or better yet, before the due date or else, you might as well drop the class.
Flexer is great. Exams are a snap if you pay attention, you get to write a paper on whatever you want and its graded P/F and the material isnt too difficult. Whats to complain about? Hes funny and relaxed and has great stories about actually being a working lawyer. I would take his class again.
He is a great professor, but he's more law oriented than psych oriented. If you are a psy major sit in on one of his classes before you decide to register for this class. And it's not an easy A but it is possible to get one.
The student who says you can't get an A is lying. I took the class Spring 2003 and I did get an A. It helps if you attend class, pay attention, and participate (duh). You do learn and have fun. Not only do you learn "book material" but you also learn the real life stuff books can never teach.
Flexer is one of jjay's greatest resources. It is worth taking his class just for the life experience alone. You will learn "the way we do things" in the criminal justice field. He is fair and funny. I never missed a class.
He's great
Prof Flexer is one of a kind. Easy going, approachable and always willing to help. I enjoyed attending his class. Earning an "A" is possible, but one must pay attention and take notes.
TAKE THIS CLASS!! HE IS VERY EASY. DOESNT CARE ABOUT ATTENDENCE. A LOT OF GUEST SPEAKERS. HE IS VERY HELPFUL. 1 PAPER ABOUT A FILM AND GIVING A DIAGNOSIS. IF YOU DO BAD, YOU CAN DO IT AGAIN OR YOU CAN DO IT FOR EXTRA CREDIT. EASY A OR B. THE FINAL IS NOT CULMATIVE
Best class ever! He doesnt stress attendance, & he only gives 2 tests: a mid-term and a final (which ur guaranteed to pass as long as u take good notes). Theres a 5 page paper but he grades it on a pass/fail basis. And the lectures were hilarious! He always has some crazy story to tell.
AWESOME! He has been the best teacher I have had in my entire college career! He understands that some students work full-time and doesn't want to create a high-stress class experience. He doesn't require the book just as long as you take good notes that shouldn't be a problem!
hes madd cool he goes off topic alot so u dont really learn nethang frum the text just make sure u remind him to review or ull b skrewed on the final and midterm the papers that he gives r madd easy and if u talk to him one on one hell change the grade or give u extra credit atendence also dont coun
This guy is the****. I highly recommend him, he'll tell what you need to know straight up with no sugarcoat at all.Flexer you my dog!
HE'S TOO CONCERNED WITH HIS "BROWN PAPER BAG" CLIENTS TO FAIL STUDENTS. DO THE WORK (MIDTERM, PAPER, AND FINAL) AND YOU GOT YOURSELF AN EASY "A". HE'S HILARIOUS AND THE GUEST SPEAKERS ARE GREAT!! YOU CAN'T GO WRONG WITH HIM.
He is a very good professor. He makes the class fun and easy. Don't be fooled though, the class is not an easy A, but it is a relatively easy course. He is very funny and really makes his lessons clear.
hes cool
He is easy-going and has a laid back teaching style. He'll send many guess speakers and cut class early so that speaks for itself. Although it is an easy class, it breaks the momentum you're used to in other classes. If you are not planning on post-graduate study, then take it.
Prof Flexer is the craziet, coolest professor. He is soooo funny!!! This class although a required class was not at all demanding. In fact, this was one of the easiest courses I have taken.
This guy is funny. He really does not care and he will tell u that. His Exams are are very old so someone in the class will have a copy. His paper is a joke and the final is even more of a joke. Take him u cant go worng. The best part of his lectures are his stories of the criminals he deals with
Should continue to teach as well as he' been doing.Good info. and good ego.
This prof is very cool, write your note and pay close attention. No book required and one pass/fail paper. Midterm and final lest than 50 Q t or f. You cant go wrong.
He's a great teacher. Very interesting and if you listen to him you will pass. Doesn't really go by the book, so you need to take notes. It's an easy class but not an easy A, which college should be.
This class is the best class ever. A lot of fun. I recommand everybody to take Flexer. There's a midterm, a final, and an easy paper. He tells a lot of great stories from his law experiences. God i love Flexer.
Took him over the summer, it was great, he made the paper optional. Of course I didn't do the paper and still got an A-. Didn't even need to buy the book because he didn't use it. His tests were on his lectures so you have to take notes. He also had guest speakers which broke up the semester.
Flex is the best !! extremly easy, he is also funny. Flexer is always telling stories about his professional life. EZ A You get a midterm paper and final. You MUST TAKE HIM !!!
Flexer is the best professor ever.I love him,he makes his clasess so interesting and funny. You learn a lot while enjoying it so much. There is a midterm, paper&final. Pay attention in class and you'll to great, and trust me you'll pay attention without even realizing it cuz the stories of his experience r sooo gud!
He is one of the best professors in this school. Take him. He's very clear and exact as to what u need to do to get an A. Take good notes and you'll ace the two tests.
Funny, smart and to the point. Take good notes and you'll pass his two exams. Don't miss class. Most of the time he's telling stories and making you laugh.
Flexer is the man!! The funniest prof in John Jay.
impeccable dressing style and the best name of all the faculty.
he basically does things on the fly, he definitely must of gotten in trouble for giving way to many A's...so now he gives a whole lot of B's hehe...he is a cool dude nonetheless...EASY
I will reiterate, THE MAN THE MAN THE MAN! He has awesome stories to tell, and will make you laugh the whole class. However, you probably won't get better than a B even if you think you deserved an A, sorry.
Great stories, Funny guy make sure you study for his exams.
take someone else, he does not review or specify what you need to write down.
"it's an easy class not an easy A" was his quote and it's true...if you don't show up every day. You'll know the difference between reckless and negligent if you don't know it by now. Real world style teaching.
Boring class. Introduced no new material that was not taught in earlier required classes. Easiest A I've ever received, but that comes from my prior knowledge of the material. Class is generally a mess.
I was barely ever in class, never did the paper, and I still managed to get a B+. Despite this, I grade him low because he lacks focus and order in his class, despite his attempt to follow up on the topic list for the semester. Classmates around me struggled because they just studied based on his notes, I read the book for fun. Skip him.
Best professor in John Jay by far. Helpful in every way, interested in individual students needs. Tells awesome stories and makes the class fun. Very funny guy, if you get the chance take him during the Summer session.
One of the best teachers! He helps his students as much as he can and tries to make sure they understand what he's teaching. I would definitely recommend him! Exactly like he says at the beginnging of the semester, "It's an easy class, but not an easy A." Just make sure you pay attention when he talks.
He is very sloppy and messy i didn't like the way he taught the class, and didn't learn anything. If you want an easy A and if you dont know much about law dont take him because you won't learn anything.
Don't take this class if you are interested in actually learning. We had many interesting class discussions but there was NO organization to the class. His tests consist of 50 T/F questions!! I didn't anything I didn't already know and it's a shame. Txtbook isn't required but I read in order feel as though it was a complete waste of time. A Mess!
I AGREE...a complete teaching mess...i swear he smokes a bowl before coming to class....though his class is fun with all the random things he says but u learn nothing and his exams are T/F which is confusing....he just talks and u never know if what he is saying is relevant or not....funny guy, nice, but a mess
He is a bit different than other professors.... However, i liked his class - it was fun. He tests on the stuff that he discusses in class only - if you listen to him and pick up on clues - yes, he gives them - you really dont need to fear his T/F tests! He should be appreciated for teaching a lot of practical stuff!
This school is lucky to have someone with his experinece and teachng skill working there. text book is not mandatory. but you MUST show up to take notes . 2 tests based on them. optional paper a must if you want an A. He makes class interesting and enjoyable. Best prof. in my 4 years. easy class hard A.
You should definitely take him. He is very straightforward with you; "It's an easy class, but not an easy A". If you have any problems at all, talk to him! He will help you out. One of the few teachers I feel that actually cares about his students. Take him!
I agree with the many posters that say Flexer's class is a mess. It really is. There is no cohesion whatsoever, which sucks when you have to take the exams. The paper is supposedly "optional", but I suggest you do it. It's a shame; Flexer is a nice guy w/ interesting stories, but the class gets lost in off-topic discussions and you learn little.
GREAT CLASS AND PROF. HE KNOWS THE LAW VERY WELL. GREAT CLASS EXAMPLES... ONLY MID-TERM AND FINAL. ALSO BRINGS GUEST SPEAKER. THE CLASS IS VERY INTERESTING.
Wonderfull professor, very creative and give you some feedback about his cases. Highly recommended
Awesome teacher FUN, exciting and great class interaction MUST TAKE You will learn a lot great insight to real life law dont buy the text
His class is very interesting and make sure you pay attention to the laws he speaks about because they're always on his test. just like he tells you in the beginning of the class: "its an easy class but not an easy A"
Great professor. Learned alot from his stories of real life criminal law. Best prof at John Jay. Truely cares about his students. Also, cute. Take notes T/F tests.
Great professor. Such an interesting class. You don't need a textbook but you will learn a lot of things. Only a midterm and a final which aren't bad at all. Don't take him if your expecting an easy A.
They don't make teachers like this anymore! A modern day Herman Melville of the law! A poet disguised as a lawyer. Years from now, you'll look back, think of Professor Flexer and say to yourself: "those were the good old days!"
Great professor. Interesting class. Loved real life psychology law stories. Easy T/F tests.
Very good prof I have learn alot... also he is very understanding highly recommended
he's the best prof in this school, highly recommended, if you need this class only take this prof
He's a great professor but the subject is really hard. I heard there's another professor that teaches this and he's easier.
HE IS GREAT, A LITTLE NUTTY BUT MAKES THE CLASS EXTREMELY INTERESTING. ITS NEVER A DULL MOMENT DURING HIS LECTURE. VERY EASY GOING BUT YOU MUST ATTEND THE CLASS IN ORDER TO GET AN 'A' BECAUSE HIS MIDTERM AND FINAL ARE STRAIGHT FROM HIS LECTURE. HE IS VERY HELPFUL AND LIKES TO SEE THE STUDENTS ENGAGING THEIR POINTS AMONG THE REST OF THE PEERS.
This is the best professor in the world of college education. The experience that he has being a lawyer, he shares it in his class. The class is extremly easy, 1 midterm, 1 final, optional paper. He is very interesting, and tells the most interesting cases. Take him you will not regret it. I got a B in his class.
This is from a colleague at the college. All of my students who have taken Professor Flexer's courses are thrilled with his reality based, humanitarian approach. He use humor and irony to present the most complex of legal jargon. He is an experienced attorney with an empathic heart. You will love his courses.
One of the best professors at John Jay. To get a B+ or better there are three things you should use to your advantage. First, when he says "Is there anything related or unrelated?" Take this opportunity to ask him ANYTHING. Second participate, participate, participate. Third do the optional paper its 5 points to your final grade. Last lots of notes
this prof. makes the course material very hard. he'll ask you the same question in 20 different ways which makes it impossible to score all possible points. very hard grader on the extra credit paper.very disorganized& He is not a GPA killer but he is a GPA MURDERER.i'm a senior&I can tell that he is hardest prof. ever, only 1 or 2 A's for the clas
a very very disorganized prof. truly a GPA killer. you're not going to get an A unless you are an attorney. he gives only 1 or 2 A's for the whole class. very hard graderer on the papers. ppl says hes funny but thats only to cover his week points. pls avoid him if you want an A and doesn't want to kill ur GPA.
Prof Flexer is quite possibly one of the most amazing teachers I've ever experienced in my college career. At first he tells you straight up that the course will be taught at a Law School Level. Which it will be. The most important thing you have to bring to class is your BRAIN. One thing you shouldn't do is underestimate this class. or Mr. Flexer.
this is the greatest professor i have ever had.i would recommend him to anyone. his test are easy and so is his midterm! in the classroom we talk about real situations. the fun part of it is you get to act as if your an attorney!Instead of trying to memorize the work all you have to do is understand it and you will do great.
Funny guy. Class might get boring sometimes but it definitely beats having any assignments (there are none). Midterm and final are a breeze. Got an A-, minimal effort.
good professor. knos his stuff! talks about real cases and the tests r easy as long as u pay attention in class! coming to class is very important. helps his students and u can always talk to him about anything relating to criminal law
Professor Flexer is excellent! His approach to teaching is meat and potatoes. None of the legal jargon. Straight understanding of the real world. More professors should take this approach. We as students learn more this way and is more tangible to the real world. Thanks Flexer! I'll know what to do if and when I get arrested :)
great professor, knows his stuff! pay attention and ull do fine - plain and simple
Prof. Flexer is honestly one of the BEST professor at JJAY! His style of teaching is very much appropriate for this type of course & his class is VERY entertaining. You leave knowing your stuff- he teaches in a no pressuring kind of way! I highly recommend him- he's plain & simple a great guy who's very knowledgeable about his materials! Take him!
Took him for POL 3069, Law and Psychology over the summer at Baruch College. Has great stories..fun class. You have to pay attention in class in order to pass! There is a book but he barely uses it. don't buy it. One midterm one final. Midterm is MUCH easier than final.
A midterm and a final. His classes are entertaining. His test are really tricky!
Easy class but definitely not an easy A. He is way too disorganized. If you want A, don't take him.
You have to pay attention in class. 1 midterm and 1 final, both exams were really tricky. I got a 90 on the midterm and ended up with a B for the class (probably did bad on the final) The final was a lot tougher than the midterm.
This class was one of my favorite classes throughout the whole semester. No homework, no textbook, but you must come to class and be engaged in the lectures. The midterm is easy, but the final covers more dense topics but is not cumulative. Extra credit paper due midway throughout the semester. This is an amazing criminal justice exposure course!
Took the course on Sat in the Spring of 2017. He does not care about attendance, however all exam material is taken from discussions in the classroom. He words his exams to trick students so be careful and pay close attention to the lectures. Not accessible outside of class and does not care about students. DO the extra credit paper b4 the final!
I cannot believe that Prof. Flexer is still teaching psychology @ JJay! I took his class in 2003 and he was amazing! I saw both positive & negative comments about him & in my opinion you get out of his class what you put in. I'm now in higher education myself & tell my students about this wonderful prof I had that inspired me to complete my degree.
There's literally not enough space to break down each and every way he sucks. Let's try: Assignments are riddled with grammatical errors He sends you on a scavenger hunt across terrible websites, good luck! Doesn't grade or give feedback. The final? It was the last two weekly forum posts put together, even included two questions twice.
No clear expectations set; the syllabus gives examples of how to answer the questions for his assignments which were lengthy and detailed examples. Later in the semester he tells the class to be short and succinct in answering. Zero feedback, No grades returned on assignments. It was a disappointing experience, I expected more
