Limnology- Honestly the worst professor I have ever had. He is disorganized to the point that it is unprofessional and an insult to normally hard working students. Questions are received with blank stares and grades are entirely subjective. He is truly a liability and an embarrassment to the Biology teaching staff.

Dr. Groeger is very disconnected as a teacher. He goes back and forth on power points not making sense so it confuses you more. The wording on his tests confuses you beyond comprehension. Its no wonder USA is lagging in Science. His low level teaching should embarrass Texas State. Just look at the means of his tests.

Horrible teacher. Skips through all important slides and posts nothing on tracs, doesn't respond to emails., no reviews and tough tests. I'm a deans list student and he's the worst teacher I've ever had.

The tests averages in class is 50. I attend class and read the book and still don't pass the test. The course is tremendously difficult. Money and time wasted because the professor only tests very specific scientific facts that you need to know, but can't learn from the class or the book. AVOID AT ALL COSTS! BEWARE!

Terrible teacher. He gets off topic a lot during class. He doesn't give test reviews so you have to know what to study but how can you know because he doesn't give good lectures. The homework online is easy but its not worth a lot. The most important thing is test but the class average is 40-50% passing.

He is the worst professor i have ever had. The class average being 50 should tell you everything you need to know. The book is essential to making any kind of headway. The notes in class are very useless. He doesn't communicate well. He doesn't give reviews but wants you to know specifics he thinks are important. Avoid this class!

i have only been in his class for about two weeks and i have to say he is down right horrible. He didn't have the syllabus until the fourth class, he is unclear about what book we need and useless about how we can reduce the ridiculous cost of said book. he goes off on tangents and there is no structure to his lectures. im lost and switching out.

do NOT take this class, he is a sweet man no doubt but not a good professor, never clear about what will be on exams, rambles through lecture, they're very vague when his exams are very specific, he gives no reviews, post absolutely nothing on TRACS. If you have him might as well not go to class and become best friends with your textbook.

This class was really hard. He never really explained the content and expected us to just know it. Overall, he was the worst professor I have ever had in my college career.

Do NOT take this class if you struggle with science. Do everything in your power to avoid this prof, even if it gives you an ugly schedule. Lectures are all over the place, he's never straight forward about grades, and the average on most tests is a low 60.

Going to lecture is a waste of time, he uses everything from the textbook. Youd be teaching yourself the whole semester if you take him. The pop quizzes are extremely easy, only had two for this semester. Trying to reach him through email is horrible, hell never get back to you. He goes off topic a lot during lecture.

Thankfully I passed this class somehow, but he was def the worst professor I had the whole semester. He never answers emails, does not give you legit answers when you ask questions in class. 12/10 wouldn't recommend. No study guides, had to read the textbook to prepare for tests.

I would highly not recommend taking Dr. Groeger for your Bio 1320. This was the most unreasonably difficult class I've ever taken, and at a freshman level, too. Dr. Groeger put no grades in the gradebook until after finals; it was impossible to know what you had in the class. The exams are extremely difficult, and they are the bulk of your grade.

Only graded by a few things, majority of those were exams. Im surprised I even passed the class. If you struggle with science DO NOT take Groeger, or if you dont want to ruin your GPA.

PLEASE do not take this professor. He's a very nice guy, but sucks at teaching. I learned absolutely nothing from this class. You have connect assignments, and tests. Thas it. Tests are hard asf and stuff we learned from lecture was hardly on the test. Due to corona, we had online class for a while, but still if you can avoid this professor, do it

Professor Groger is the worst professor I've ever had. His lectures often veer off into stories about lakes for 30 minutes and you wasted a whole lecture. I missed two and a half weeks due to Covid 19, In this time period there were 2 tests and he refused to work with me, and would not email me back and i had to take the 0. Avoid if at all possible

Professor is not able to be reached outside of class, he does not stay on topic in lecture, this class was hybrid and in the last 3 weeks of class he finally figured out how to use the online learning tool, TX State uses CANVAS to turn in all assignments, they will not be graded until the last week, even then not correctly done so. Don't recommend.

horrible professor. loves talking about literally anything and everything but no test reviews, no study guides, barely anything uploaded on canvas, all exams are in person, and he is hard to reach outside of class. never knew what the grade was because he didn't know how to use canvas, so I had to guess what I had. literally 90% of the class failed

ATTEND CLASS! Dont miss out on pop quizzes because theyre extra points! I totally wouldnt recommend him if youre not a Bio major/minor. Clearly Im not a Bio major/minor so i struggled A LOT! All tests are in person and its hard to prepare for them, and we also never got back any of our tests to study!

Firstly, I will start off by saying Dr. Groeger is a very smart professor and you can tell by his lectures but he often goes off topic and doesn't go into much detail about the slides he presents and it is unclear about what he is talking about most of the time in class. This class has been my biggest downfall yet!

HORRIBLE, very old school. only graded by test grades he makes no review for them just tells you the chapters to read but theres information of the tests that were not in the chapters. his answer for students struggling was to just study more. i was always so lost in his lectures, would never take his class a second time.

Like most of the reviews say Professor Groeger got off topic a lot in class and jumps around the lecture a lot so most of the time if is difficult to follow. The slides that he posts can be helpful but if you do not review them then they don't help. I only have 5 grades in right now and 3 of them are exams, so it has been a struggle.

He is not good at explaining clearly and the only grades put into canvas are the exams and occasional pop up quizzes, nothing else. This is what makes the course hard because you have to do good from the very start or else your grade will be horrible all semester. The only good thing is he curves the grade at the end of the semester.

Professor Groeger, like many of these reviews say, gets off topic a lot and jumps around topics in lectures so it can be difficult to follow. His lectures are fast and only cover parts of textbook not everything. The textbook is information overload and half of it isn't covered in the lectures or the tests. There is no homework to pad the grades.

Groeger was by far the worst professor I have ever had. The only grades in class are your Exams and 3 pop quizzes. His lectures don't help on the exam and you will have to the textbook (That is free) In my class alone, the average for all the exams was 52%. The only reason I passed was that he gave a massive curve that boosted me from a 51 to a 72.

He doesn't know how to stay on topic. The lectures are painfully boring and very hard to sit through. Especially when it's the first class you have to wake up for. He only gives pop quizzes whenever a lot of people are absent. Your test grade is basically a gamble. The average for each of the tests was 50-55.

Worst professor I have ever taken. He gets lost in his lectures (spends too much time talking about other things). He gives out no homework or take home assignments (which would help). Attendance is not mandatory, but be careful: he gives out 2-3 pop quizzes, and 3 tests- that's your grade. Class is extremely boring, use quizlet instead.

He apparently curves the exams at the end of the semester but you never know your grade in this class. no test reviews, everyone bombs the tests. in a 3x a week class we got through maybe 10 slides out of a 50 slide deck, his class is a waste of time. you can teach yourself the units and be fine

The class average for every test was around 55, he does give curves but not until the end of the semester so you just have to guess if your passing. He provided very little help on what the test would be about and lots of time the tests would be nothing like the lectures or book. You could memorize that book and still not get a passing grade.

He was the absolute worst professor ever. He goes over 1 slide out of the 20 in class and half the time in class hes talking about nonsense. He gives 4 tests and the class average is always below 50. He doesnt give any reviews. He doesnt respond to emails. The only assignments are the 4 tests and 2 - 3 pop quizzes. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!!!

He called out a student with a disability. The test average is around 50, no one ever makes a 100. Tests are not over slides or the textbook. I only passed because I showed up every day in case of a pop quiz and he dropped one test grade. Texas State needs to further assess him.

You basically have to teach yourself the material. He goes on random rants about unrelated to topics that won't be on the test. He said he'd give out quizzes but he rarely does meaning that your grade is solely based on your exams. It's like going into the exams blind because we don't know what to study.

Groeger's lectures are very confusing. There are many things he rambles about that have nothing to do with biology, and said things will be on the tests he gives. He only grades on quizzes and tests, there are no assignments. I will say, the quizzes in class do boost your grades by 20 points, and are fairly easy if you pay attention.

His lectures are very confusing and the slides he provides are not helpful at all. 5 tests, the lowest score is dropped and there's some in-class quizzes that help boost ur grade a little but if u miss it u can't make it up. Ur grade for the class is not the grade that's on canvas so you'll never know ur exact grade. good things: 1. no homework

Spare yourself! If you're reading this too late- SHOW UP TO EVERY CLASS & READ THE TEXTBOOK. It's your only hope. Pop quizzes will make or break you- the difference is a FULL letter grade. He's completely unorganized. only grades are 5 tests & 2/3 pop quizzes. Major curve at the end of the semester- you wont know your real grade until class ends

STAY FAR AWAY FROM DR GROEGER! I will be making an A in his class but only because of the massive grading curve at the end of the semester. He tests you on random bits and pieces of information that he says throughout his lectures, NOT the important topics that should be covered.

lectures every class and goes on about random things. There are random pop quizzes so just show up at least 15 minutes before class is over if u are the person to not attend class but still want credit. Every class is PowerPoint lecture. Tests have nothing to do with what he has talked about. Pretty ridiculous. And he accuses people of cheating.

He got behind on his own syllabus in September and the formate of the tests is awful, it looks like paragraphs. The reading assignments are on the test. The lectures make no sense because he rambles a lot.

The professor was nice but I disliked him as a teacher. He doesn't input your grade into Canvas at all during the semester (because he doesn't apply the curve), you find out after. Our class average was a 50 all semester and he seemed perfectly fine with it saying things like "this is how it usually is" - if you can take someone else DO IT.

Avoid taking this class, you don't know your final grade until they are posted when the semester is done so if you start off bad you are stressed the rest of the semester, he also doesn't respond to emails.

Funny enough, i came to this guys class every single day and sat at the front, i took notes, read some of the textbook, but for a beginner class this was a tough biology class. he rambles and pretty much if you didnt read the textbook entirely you wouldn't be able to understand what hes talking about. still passed with a D. Class is not mandatory but I do recommend you show up. You can take as many notes as you want on the lecture's but they only help so much. Read the book because you'll be teaching yourself the class pretty much. He's an okay person but rambles on during lectures and seems as if they handed him a PhD. Take anybody else if you can; GOOD LUCK.

Well I got an A but the professor is not that great to be honest . He takes quizzes once in while but takes them on a random day without informing especially when the students are less in number. The way of teaching was not great either he doesn't explain the topics properly. Don't recommend him at all .....

Well I got an A in the class but I don't recommend him to be honest. His lectures are very hard to understand and all of the time you have to teach yourself. he randomly takes quizzes once in a while which was only 2 time in the entire semester to be honest when the number of student are very less.

DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS AT ALL COST. This man is probably one of the worst professors on campus. Expect hard to understand lectures, random pop quizzes, and hours of teaching yourself the material on your own time. On top of the overall lousy of a job he does as a professor he is also just generally a rude person to talk too. Just don't take it.

350 words is not enough. i got straight A's in all my other classes except for this. Lectures are messy, tests are the only grades u get except a few quizzes, and material is not the same in lectures vs. exams. Hes a nice old guy, but he cannot teach at all. Messed up my GPA cuz i wasnt able to choose my classes as a 1st year. DONT take this class.

Genuinely the worst professor I've ever had please for the love of god save yourself and DO NO TAKE ANY CLASSES WITH THIS MAN. He doesn't do study guides so you have to guess whats going to be on the test. PowerPoints are incohesive and hard to follow. Alan Groeger seems like a nice man, but his lectures often make no sense. This class somehow made basic Bio super confusing and hard. This will be the first C I have ever received. Not worth taking please save yourself and take this over the summer at a community college. The worst class I have ever taken.

like that girl said, "if you're not religious, pick one and pray" you are going to have to teach yourself the material. if you wont have time for that then don't take him. he doesn't respond to emails, and there's no other assignments besides 4 tests and 2 random pop quizzes. YouTube was my saving grace, and I still was only able to make a C.
