Dr Pribula cares about teaching, knows his stuff and tries to make you think. He doesn't spoonfeed which is why many students hate him. You will actually LEARN in his class
he is rude, unhelpful, and full of crap. he knows what he's talking about, but he explains it in his own language. asking a question gets him mad, and anything that you turn in to him isn't good enough. he makes everyone do assignments over all the time.
Let me be fair. He is a very good teacher and he knows his stuff. However, he is sometimes rude and moody.

He takes a simple 100 level course and makes it a 900 level course. All you guys who are saying pos things about him are either teachers, pribula or students from SACCS who love to kiss his ***.

the best lecture in towson, but the hardest exams in the world. only 1/4 of the class came to take final. quiz, no hw, but hard lab too. recmmend to chem major "only".

This course is as hard as diamond.To match against the course u need your knowledge network, network with classmates or professors to get help and enormous amount of energy. Pribula is a conductor that helps us win it. No easy angles to break this course.

This teacher shouldn't even have made it this far teaching. He goes on and on about how we should know this, and then wants to give quizzes. But he's not teaching us anything. DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS CHOOSE ANOTHER PROFESSOR!!!!!!It's not worth the F!!!!
teacher teaches absolutely nothing,I learned absolutely NO chemistry. Spent the first half of semester on Chapter 1.Expects you to know everything he knows, without him teaching it. Pop quiz everyday. Class is boring and he always ends class 20mins late.
Dr Pribula does not spoon feed. Pick up your textbook, do lots of sample problems. If you work hard, try, and enter this course prepared (algebra!) you will succeed. If you put in time to understand it, he will take the time to explain it to you.

This is one of the worst teachers I have had at Towson. The subject matter is easy but the way he teaches makes it very hard to understand. He's not great help when u talk to him on an individual basis either. He talks ENTIRELY TOO MUCH about nothing!!!

I think most people who rated Pribula bad were actually rating "chem 110"- Pribula is a decent professor for this class, explains topics on a very practical level- use the text, practice a lot- He curves his exams.
Every bad comment you have read under Pribula's name is true! Our class was so far behind that he would skip labs and use the day to make up on lecture. At the end of the semester he threw at us everything we hadn't yet covered! He lowered my good GPA :(

Took this guy back in 1997. yes, he's hard. if you dont know how to study for a college course (esp freshman used to high school classes), do not take him if possible. drop the class and wait till you have more credits and choose Dr. Topping, if he's still around. This guy is very strict.

I found Dr. Pribula to be an amazing teacher. He really challenges you to learn the subject and if you slack off or don’t want to put forth the effort he will fail you. It’s as simple as that. I heard the horror stories about him before I took his class and all I can say is that he wasn’t at all the terrible professor people made him out to be.

The worse professor in the chemistry departmnet at Towson. Professor Pribula is an excellent grader but a horrible person. He is very demeaning and makes it easy for people to give up. You basically gotta be in his face to understand and keep up. If you don't you will fall behind.
I have inorganic with him and I find it hard to stay awake in class. The labs are so-so, they require a lot of work in and outside of lab. He goes off topic and his lectures sometimes sound like he's having a converstation with himself. He gives a pre-test at the beginning which made me feel like I was taking an entrance exam for his class.
Made class much more difficult then what it should have been. Also, the textbook was not much help as a supplement for his lectures but did help with labs. The labs are ok but the lab reports are killer. If majority of the kids in the class are failing, its not because we're lazy but reflects on the professor.
text was good for lab reports, but thats if you know where to look; i went for help from him and didn't even pass the class. He labels students. This guy was terrible.His quizzes to me were over the top.His lab felt like a nine to five.But I did like that he allowed you to turn back in labs that you diddn't do to well on.That's the only good thing about him.
I had Alan Pribula nearly 30 years ago. Even then I thought he was rude, arrogant, and tended to humiliate students. I still remember him and I think even now he was the unkindest person I have ever met. These are generous remarks.

Took him over 5 years ago for my Undergrade (freshmen). I failed horribly. I though I wasen't cut out for college. I'm a graduate student now Univ of MD. I have not found a teacher like him ever. I believe the Univ keeps him there so that TU's chem dept appears hard and competative??? There are ways of being hard without failing students....
i hated his class. i am a chem major and he was a very rude person. he favors certain students that he will grade easy and the rest hard. tears apart your words on exams and lab reports. a really mean man, not worth taking him for any reason. didnt even finish teaching the info we needed in the class because very slow teacher.

Don't take him. Unless you like redoing your work a million times over, and taking hours upon hours to recreate. In that case, you'll like him. If you are sensitive, don't take him. If you want a life, don't take him. and if want to have a shot at grad school,don't take him. any other reason? just don't take him. end of story.

I am a transfer student and this is my first semester here at towson and I must say Prof. Pribula is one of the WORST professors that I have ever come across. I came from a chemm 110 professor who was hard but actually took the time to explain things. He is very RUDE! I really wish someone would have told me to avoid his class!
Inorganic chemistry: Dr. Pribula is obviously very smart and knows a lot about inorganic chemistry and even orgo. The class is actually really interesting and the labs are actually pretty fun and informative. But get ready for a really large workload. Hope you are taking easy classes this semester. It also helps to get a friends old labs!
I had Dr. Pribula for Inorganic. The class is really interesting and he presents the material in a very clear way so that its not that difficult to understand. The exams are manageable if you study his old exams. Expect to devote your whole semester to writing lab reports. He is very willing to help if you ask...so ask! Wont give u answers tho.
I respect Dr. Pribula immensely because he makes you work for your grade. He is very willing to help you if you ask but he will by no means give you any answers. Its good prep for grad school which tends to be a rare find in undergrad. The labs are long and arduous so be prepared to work for that A! P.S. His abrasiveness is just a scare-tactic!
Sooo, i don't knw what r these ppl talking but he is the worst prof. u would ever have. He writes single spaced 2 pgs e-mails yelling at u that u r not good student. He discourages u a lot. Never takes him if u don't want to ruin your transcript. U can imagine how bad he is of if only 4 studens r left at the end of the semester put of 24
Not pleased with this professor. He dodges your questions and gives inadequate responses, making it more difficult than need be. His grading style if very specific for a 100 level class and its not worth it.

Pribula will make you work for your grade, so study! I honestly do not see myself passing this class, and a lot of other students feel the same. It was a very challenging class and perhaps too challenging for a intro course. He will help you as much as you need if you ask. Just ask questions if you need help, especially labs! He'll like you for it!

I am a forensic chem majorwho has a gpa of 3.85, I have gotten an A in all of my other chem classes including Orgo 1 and 2 one fo the hardest classes and he didnt explain anything, the work load is impossible and he was condescending the entire time. I'm a biochem major. I learned more material and understood more material during high school. I took AP Chem and apprenticed for AP Chem during sr year and now I feel like I've taken 10 steps backwards. Most condescending and irritating teacher I have ever had.
He's extremely confusing. He talks way too much and doesn't explain anything clearly at all. Everyone fails the tests. Attendance isn't mandatory, but he gives pop quizzes so you always have to be there anyways.
He explains things clearly but when you get the exam it's completely different and so much harder than what he teaches, previous exams are available but HARD surprise questions show up on yours. You can get an A only if you work HARD. I went to him for help and he helped but was very condescending so I never asked for help again. avoid if possible
Dr. Pribula is not the Devil that everyone makes him out to be. You do have to try hard in his class to get a good grade, and he expects it out of his students. If you express an interest in learning and doing well, he will like you! He is very helpful when you ask for help, and really isn't out looking to fail his students. I promise!

I had Pribula for Gen Chem 131 lab and he was HORRIBLE!!!! If you can avoid taking him, do so. He will talk down to you like you're a child and expect you to know what you're doing 24/7. I always got R's on his lab reports and the feedback I would try to get from him would be next to nothing. AVOID PRIBULA!!!!

Took him for lab and I hated it!!!! He talks down to you and is impatient if you don't do things correctly. He doesn't understand its new to us and he's been doing it for 20 years. This dude is an old fart, he's smart and he knows what he's talking about. You think at first that he's being repetitive, but he's doing it with the intention to make you a better student.
Point blank not a good teacher. He rambles on, lecture is unclear. No powerpoints to aid in lecture. I was warned not to take him by random Chem students and unfortunately I didnt listen. He knows Chemistry well but he cannot teach.
Dr. Pribula is an amazing teacher. He can be tough but he does a great job of explaining the material and is more than willing to help if you show him that you are putting forth the effort and want to do better(just don't expect him to give you the answer!). Took him a few semesters ago worried from the bad reviews I heard, but he was great.
Professor is not an easy professor, but he's also not unfair. He is mainly for Chemistry or Pre-professional students. Students taking Chemistry as a Gen Ed. should not take him if they want an "Easy A".

Dr. Pribula is really smart, he can detect your mistakes less than 10 sec but he is v.picky and hard on grafting, If your grade is important don't even think about him.
He mostly expects you to come to class with knowledge of the material.Instead of going over material that the class didn't know he'll just lecture why you should've known it. Sometimes only informs you of a test the class before and gives pop quizzes!Not enough time to finish the tests, even if you've studied so he curves most of the time.

I took him for both lecture and lab. For lecture, he lets you know where you can find past exams and they have always have the same format, very similar questions. For labs, there is a report due every week, and if it is not satisfactory to him he gives you an R to redo it, so you have two labs due the next week. Not very nice either.
