I took Prof. Joseph for Western Civ II and American History I, and I'd take him again in a heartbeat. He really loves history and you can tell by the way he teaches.

Good guy, but I don't think you could get history with more of a liberal slant unless Ted Kennedy was your professor. Easy A, knows about half of the material, but teaches all of it anyway.

Best teacher I have ever had. There is no teacher that could ever compare with how good Alan is his tests are simple as long as you listen to the lecture which is easy to listen to because it is so lively and interesting. But do not take him if you skip class b/c attendence is no joke to him.

I garduated from HVCC and I am at St.Rose now where all the history teachers ... well they suck. Alan Joseph was the most exciting interesting history teacher I ever had. He is enthusastic about the material and presents it well. I wish he taught at St.Rose

i have taken 2 classes with professor joseph and i would have to say that i have enjoyed both classes. i like the fact that he's not out to get us when it comes to tests and papers, he just wants us to do our own work and he would like to see everyone succeed.

I am a HVCC graduate and attend St. Rose presently. I have never encountered a more inspiring teacher. He is wonderful at what he does!

AWESOME! His excitement for teaching shows and he is very intelligent, however the side of his brain that creates jokes must be broken - get it, thats a joke! Very fair and laid back. Alan Joseph is the best American history professor - bar none! I hated history in high school; because of his passion, he kindled in me a love for it. Tests are fairly easy, and he's a great teacher. Take him for any history class you can!

Prof Joseph was awesome! He was so helpful and interesting. He was my favorite teacher of the semester and his class (Western Civ I) quickly became my favorite. He is funny and very knowledgable. His tests are very easy and his lectures come right out of the book if you miss a class.

I loved this class and this professor. He is the greatest. He loves his history. I took American History with him online and it was one of the easiest classes I have taken. The quizzes are super easy and the tests aren't too awful. Highly recommended. :)

There is no oral presentation, just an EXTREMELY easy term paper. I got 100 on mine. Awesome teacher. Take Prof. Joseph if you can.

Online course. He was very helpful and responded to questions or emails promptly. Made sure to let everyone know if he was going to be away from a computer for more than a day. The course has a good amount of work if you do all the reading, but the tests and quizes are all fairly easy, but still cover the full range of material discussed.

Pretty good teacher. Very clear in his expectations. Easy class. 3 tests and a 5-8 page paper, that's it. No other work at all. Doesn't use book. He knows his history. Usually he is nice but can get easily upset about small things like yawning in class. Tries to be funny, but usually not. No exemptions from final. Has attendance policy. Take him.

Very easy classes, test are 70 multiple choice that's it. No homework other than dealing with term paper. He once had the whole class leave early because a student yawned. Another time he pushed his papers around and left to take a walk because a kid laughed... kind of scary outbursts but an easy grade.

Watch what you say on here as he has told my class that he reads these! Anyway...He's a great professor and I'm glad I have him.

This was my 2nd class with this professor. All his classes are pretty much the same. Only 3 tests, final, and paper. Final exam and attendance are mandatory. Very little work. Just show up, take notes, and study them; that's it. Very knowledgeable professor. Gets upset easily, but usually he is fine. Don't need book at all. Def. take him.

Joseph was my favorite professor at HVCC. I took him for 3 classes. I loved the little, short, bald-headed guy. He is very nice and explains everything very clearly. If you hate history, take him and you will love it. He runs all of his classes the same. 3 M.C. tests. One paper. Mandatory final. Doesn't use book much: just take notes & study them.

Good guy, easy class. Doesn't change his tests from semester to semester. Was disappointed he skated out of Vietnam but is very knowledgable about the war. Text was not hardly needed. He loves his 60's music and telling stories about dressing like a hippy!

Great, great guy. Hilarious how he tries so hard to be funny. Don't need the textbook; hands out term sheets that you can take notes on. Just look it over before every exam and it's cake. 65 m/c every time and one 5-8 pg paper due at the end. Very clear when explaining things and will always help. I hated history before this class, but not now.

I loved this guy... you might not understand his jokes but he is an excellent teacher and as long as your willing to meet up with him at a "mutually convient time" he is always willing to help. 3, 65 question M/C test, mandatory final, and a 5-8 page research paper. I took Prof. Joseph's class this intersession.It was truly awesome. Professor is very knowledgable. It never felt like it was any boring subject. We were listening the History like a story. Very easy A, if you really listen and take notes.Just read them before exam you will be fine.I wish other HVCC professors were like Professor Joseph.Thank you.

He was recommended to me by my advisor and I'm glad i took that advice. He is one of the best history teachers on campus and you can tell he knows his stuff. He is willing to answer any questions that you might have and is always there to help you understand the material. I would definitely recommend that you take one of his classes.

I'm taking him online and the class is fun, and not very hard at all. He always gets back to you the same day about questions your have. A Discussion board and quiz every week. Quizs are not hard, and you basically get to pick what you want to talk about in the db. Really great class and teacher.

One of the funnest teachers I've ever had. He always likes to joke around but he makes the course material pretty simple. His requests to not use your cell phone in class is pretty reasonable. The man loves a good joke and has a great relationship with the students.

He's a great teacher. Too many corny jokes, even though it keeps the class interested. Tells you what you need to know for the test and tests on a cumulative basis, so the final is basically another chapter test.

Alan Joseph is extremely sweet guy, I have a hard time saying anything bad about him. This class is great for anyone not with a vested interest in history. I went death marched to the end of the scope of the course not really learning anything. The class has been extremely simplified leaving me disappointed. But Alan is one of the nicest people.

I'm taking American history right now and I enjoy the class although, it can be boring. It's lecture every class with the occasional movie. But Prof Joseph is awesome! He's a funny guy and his class is easy going. Stay off your phone though! He takes that personally.

Professor Joseph is awesome! He knows history like a second language. If you need a history class, his American history class is great. Good class to take when you have a busy schedule. Attending class is a must and there's no kidding about putting away your phone, but otherwise, I recommend Prof Joseph.

Intro to American History. Easy A but get ready to read the textbook like crazy. Online class demands a lot of work if you want an A. Exams are purely essays which are lengthy. Easy grader but still a lot of work

All you gotta do is show up and listen to his lectures. You don't need to take notes or anything he gives out review sheets. Don't need the text books. Only 1 term paper only like 3 pages long and doesn't fuss about sources or citations. His puns are funny and he is so easy to ask for help. Would take again.

Professor Joseph is extremely kind and caring, really open to help or give extra credit when you put in the effort to ask for it. Tests are unbelievably easy multiple choice. Super easy grader. He try's his best to make lectures fun and interesting.

Solid choice for history. You can't go wrong with him. If you hate history like me but need a history course, take him. He keeps it interesting and you can see his efforts in making the material interesting. Answers emails promptly and isn't one of those professors who seems bothered to answer an email. Professor Joseph is absolutely the best choice for History. He is so knowledgeable and caring. He is so caring about students and their lives. He understands people come from all walks of life and that they have stuff going on sometimes. His online class was perfect and focused on exactly what one needs to know, but allows for more enrichment.

He is always making jokes. He speaks a bit slower which is great for taking detailed notes. He also gives out lots of handouts to help with tests and he is very open to helping students. One of my favorite professors for sure; the only thing he asks for in return is respect and students willing to learn. Act respectfully and he is very easy going.

Don't bother buying the textbook! You can easily get an A with all the outlines he provides you. Professor Joseph is an excellent teacher. He genuinely wants to make sure everyone understands the material. He responds very fast to emails. The only grades are 4 tests (lowest grade gets dropped) and the final. Easy class.

Professor Joseph is a great! His Vietnam War class in not hard as long as you show up to class, take notes, and study. He provides outlines which are extremely helpful. His tests are all multiple choice and he usually provides a review sheet. His research paper is not hard just long. But overall great professor and always available.

He stressed at the start of the semester This is a stress free class. And boy was he right! He makes it easy for you to pass by giving very clear lectures and handouts, and simply asking that you do your part by showing up to lecture and absorbing the information.

Professor Joseph is a great guy, hes funny and very kind. The ONLY downfall of his class was it was graded on tests with only 1 extra credit assignment the whole semester. He is a really good guy and the final is super easy. Go to class, it will help you because the notes he gives arent what I consider to be very good. 10/10 would take again

You don't need the textbook even though he says you do. I personally just didn't like his style of teaching, he is nice but that's not all that matters. For an online class, the workload was a lot, I had to give a significant amount of time to stay on track. I would say pick someone else.

Professor Joseph is one of my favorite professors at HVCC. He cares about his students and enjoys teaching. His lectures are easy to follow along with and he gives handouts with extra notes. As long as you show up to class and briefly go over notes before tests, you'll get an A. His class is based off 4 tests (he drops one) and a research paper.

Dont listen to the bad reviews on here, professor Joseph may be a tad eccentric and like to make jokes, but he is one of the sweetest and kindest professors there is. Gives notes packets that provide 90% of what you need to know for tests, as long as you pay attention in class you learn the other 10%. Highly recommended!!!

He was really understanding if I ever made a mistake and just overall really nice. Only had a quiz and db post with one reply per week. Tests were every 3 weeks and were almost exactly the same as the db prompts for those past three weeks. Lectures were short but informative so you didn't need the textbook for the quiz, only the dbs. Loved him!!

Professor Joseph is a bit unorganized and can take awhile getting the class up and running consistently with having lectures and quizzes available. He was very nice and made corny jokes throughout the semester. His lectures have everything for quizzes, 3 tests throughout the semester that are essay format. Term paper due at the end.

Professor Alan is a really great Professor. You don't really need the textbook, I didn't use it much and I still passed the class with an A. I took this class online and all I did was thoroughly read the notes he posted and took the quizzes and tests with no problem. Final paper was easy too.

I took this class online and it wasn't very difficult. Attendance helps, as well as note taking. There are online tests, and short papers.

Always replies to emails- easy grader, class is very organized and structured - you will get an easy A as long as you get the work done- there are 16 chapters and every chapter is basicly lecture, quiz and db. There is a final paper and exam. both are extremly easy and he is leinent about the paper and dbs.

Professor Joseph is a cool guy who brings a fun, laidback vibe to the class. The workload is manageable - discussion boards, quizzes, and a few tests. He provides great review materials to ace the exams. unstuck study was a huge help for quick study prep too.
