This guy is a good prof. Just do the readings and talk in class. Very fair man.
Acts like an elitist in class and around campus - only teaches here because can't get no job elsewhere. Another failed wannabe university scholar.
The most obnoxious person I have ever met, rude, uncaring, proud, hates students. Fire him!!!

why isn't this guy fired yet??? if you don't agree with him, though he asks your opinion, he will fail you! don't even bother with this class- it's a waste of time!
Great proffessor, fair man. Good choices of readings. He makes the class fun and enjoyable.

How is this guy not fired? He doesn't teach, even when he shows up to class, and all he does is talk about gross topics that have nothing to do with anything.
No deadlines on papers, strict attendance policy, overall he is big on preparedness and class participation
he wasn't that bad. i was pretty scared of him in the beginning. i thought that i would have got a worse grade than what he gave me. he ended up being a pretty cool guy.
I agree, fire him. He cares more about his phd than he does his students. Apparently he is better than everyone else around him - avoid him at all costs. I got a decent grade, but his attitude wasn't worth it.
Very good teacher, but you definitely benefit more from coming to class prepared and participating in class. For those who are interested and willing to work hard, he is a phenomenal teacher. His grading is more than fair.
Painfully disinterested in the impact of his flippant and unnecessary comments. No doubt a fairly intellignet man gone completely mad. He's much better suited for the role of prison warden than that of professor. GET RID OF HIM!
Granted many members of the class were intellectual midgets, but this man is a beast! He was rude, unprofessional, awkward with his own material, and completely disinterested.
The reading material was pretty good although it was much more than I expected. He's a bit intimidating at first but it's a facade. He's BIG on attendance and being prepared. He gives 2nd chances on lower grade papers and his grading is very fair.
Very good teacher, inspiring, and very helpful. Great assignments and good grading. A++, would recommend to take this professor.
This professor is the best, he is beyond fair and very good at teaching you what you do wrong, he gives you a second chance to correct all your work. All you have to do is attend, do your work and try your best and you'll get a good grade.... I rcvd an A.
Dr. Kaufman is an outstanding professor. He is very helpful, and if you make an effort in the class you will do well. He seems hard at first, but discusses the work, and thoroughly explains all assignments
He doesn't seem nice at first but once yo get to know him he is the coolest, funniest, most intelligent guy that you will ever meet. You will actually learn something in this class! He challenges you.
Mean. obnoxious, stupid, the worst taecher I have had since kindergarten.
This teacher is good,Easy readings, homework, and papers. You will learn. I reccomend him. At first he seems standoffish and mean but he really isn't once he warms up to the class. He's like an anti social person being forced to socialize.
Pretty good professor....Very clear of what he wants from you.... Sarcastic at the begining gets better.... If you do not like to read dont take him.... you will have to read a novel and write a research paper about it....
I have never met amore sarcastic, obnoxious, and sadistic person than he is. He hates everyone and everything. He dresses like he was going to clean his garage.
good , professor, he gives you second chance in your papers, and class participation helps you a alot to improve your grade, so far so good , he is a good professor
Funny guy.... A little sarcastic, but if you do the work you will pass. He lets you re-write papers.. so you get a second chance....He dresses a little weird, but if you do the work you should get at leasr a B..
i dropped this class cause i don't love writing papers on 2 line essays. mean guy, don't recommend him at all
He is OK. Hes just average - nothing too bad or too good about him. Sometimes boring sometimes fun. 2 papers which u can rewrite if below B+ grade. Gave me a take home final!! wow! Got A in class.
Just do the work he assigns and you will pass.... Assignments are a little boring but not to bad..
if u do ur reading.. the class is interesting... he's a cool laid back guy who respects the opinion of his students.. i was intimidated in the beginning but his class discussions make you want to get involved.. dont expect a good grade if you dont do the work.. if u do u'll get an a
This professor is horrible..makes u need like a novel every week..hard on grading two term papers. don't take this guy..
Horrible, mean, insulting, obnoxious. He hates his students and has the most glorified idea of his "genius" and abilities. A DISASTER!!!!!!!!!

He is awseome. He might be a little dry with his humor but he helped me become a better writer, HE is smart!
Prof. Kaufman is great. He helped me expand my writing so much. I really enjoyed his class. Yes, you do have to read and keep up, but it's nothing a college student can't handle. Take him! You'll learn a lot.
He is a really miserable human being. He believes that he is a genius and that everyone else in the world is stupid. He hates students, he hates his colleagues, he hates everything. He is completely unhelpful and does not even respond to student questions.
Dr. K is a great professor!! He teaches you a lot and is ALWAYS helpful when students ask for it. He is an amazingly open-minded person with a non-bias grading policy. You'll learn TONS from him!!
Very funny, nice, and helpful professor. Very lenient when handing in papers. Overall, I'm very happy with him as a teacher and would take him again.

The worst teacher I have had from kindergarten to college, mean, sarcastic, uninterested, a real time server. He is the most horrible person I have ever met in my life. Grades are totally arbitrary and unfair. DO NOT TAKE HIM> If you do, you will regret it.
If you want to become a better writer and literature critic, take Prof. Kaufman. I thought I was a pretty good writer/reader before this class, but he made me work hard, and I am grateful because I have improved. If you are looking for an easy class, this is not for you. Take Dr. K if you want to better yourself and your educational experience!
Dr. Kaufman is creative, engaged, encouraging, kind, inspirational, supportive, irreverent, and lively. His class is one of the highlights of my academic career.
A mean, miserable, and vicious man. The worst teacher, I ever had. He enjoys demeaning students. He believes he is brilliant; he is just pathetic.
He is very good, very helpful but do not take him if yo are lazy and haye to read, there is a lot of reading to do, he can be very scary at first but he is great
A really poor teacher who hates students. I really feel sorry for him; I cannot understand how someone can be so mean and vindictive.
I think it is an overall good professor. He is very different. He is kinda strict but at the same time leaves alot of room for getting a good grade. He made himself availably but he is a little intimidating. Just do all the papers and youll pass.
If you know that you don't belong at Bergen Community College and that you are destined for a higher education, take Professor Kaufman. In any of his courses, he will ask you to be a scholar; he'll challenge and help you to advance your thinking in any way he can. If you can't muster an ivy-league standard of conduct and intellect, don't bother.
He is definitely different. He is a bit intimidating, yet also infuriating when he states that he "doesn't understand something" and asks someone in the class to "explain it to him". I mean common- he's the professor. But do the papers! those are really the only assignments.
He comes off as intimidating in the very beginning, but I recommend you don't drop the class. 4 papers and one research paper total, gives you the option to rewrite if you get below a B, and is an extremely fair grader. Class can get dry at times, but I enjoyed most of it. If you put effort into your assignments, you should be fine. I got an A.
He is very comical and knows the material well. This class was not what I expected at all. Completely discussion yet he is quick to turn down an opinion he does not like. Seems to favor athiest and highly dislikes Christians, Catholics and Muslims. 3 essays & 1 final are the only works he asked for. He has a very clear syllabus and lists readings.
Prof. Kaufman challenges you to think critically about passages presented from the Old Testament. The class was very interesting even to those who have never taken a scripture class. Keep an open mind and you will look forward to what transpires from one class to the next. I highly recommend Professor Kaufman and his Hebrew Scriptures class. 3 pape

I love this teacher greatest professor on earth funny and sweet, very helpful and fair grader, not too hard, hes a great guy very nice i definetely recomend you to take this class youll be missing out alot if you dont
He is so nice such a great teacher i love this guy pretty easy only 3 assignments and makes you want to come to class, very funny and helpful take him!!
Great professor. Grades fairly and doesn't give out an excessive workload, plus he's funny and extremely helpful. I wish every professor was like this.
he's not easy but definitely an amazing professor.
Fine professor. Classes can seem boring early on, but it's discussion heavy. Assignments are clear - read the book and you'll be fine. 4 papers, allows you to re write it if you get lower than a B! Seems intimidating but wants to see everyone do well. Funny guy when he wants to be. I'd recommend him.
He is awesome! I've taken several of his courses and the effort you put in is well represented by the grade you receive. Hes wicked smart, and sometimes impatient but very fair.
He is the WORST human being on earth, I just took political philosophy with this sir and he made my life a LIVING HELL, he only assign 3 papers and the final is a paper also but you dont have the chance to get an A or even B+ on them at all, TONS of reading and you have to be careful expressing your ideas because he might not like them or YOU!!!
I had a very good experience in Dr. Kaufman's class. He involves students in his lectures by encouraging discussion and he allows each student to express their own opinions. Sure, he isn't particularly friendly but he isn't rude either.
It was funny how I took this 3 hours class and the first week we were 34 students and by the 4th week only 16 of us stayed! He is very hard and if he doesnt like your point of view towards a discussion he will put you down! 3 papers but I wrote every single one up to 8 times since he allows you to re-write if you receive a less than a B..THE WORST
Amazing professor. 6 long novels, short stories, essays, and books for the research paper. He assigns 3 short papers and a 12-15pg research paper (only for the honors course). It's not an easy A but the course is incredibly interesting and if you like a challenge and want to improve your writing and critical thinking abilities, take this course.
Probably the best professor I have had at Bergen. Extremely intelligent, knows his material, very funny! Do the work and show up and you will do well. Would definitely take another class with him!
Kaufman is a great professor. Gives very few assignments, including written essays and the occasional pop quiz whenever he senses the class is slacking on their reading assignments. He's direct and informal at times, making the class pretty entertaining. Don't be intimidated by him, he's pretty lenient with the essays and wants to see you do well.
Loved his class. I would def take him again! There are no tests, only papers and he lets you rewrite them if you scored lower than a B. He does not lecture. His classes are discussions which helped me understand the class better. Just go to class and read the material and you are good.
Longest Lectures of my life. They dragged on and papers are mainly on one subject. Or at least for my course period. I never liked writing and I let him know when he asked us to write about how we feel about the class. And I think he didn't like me past them and really pounded me on my grading.
kaufman only assaigns 4 papers for the semester, 3 essays (3 pages each) + 1 research paper (7 pages). he is really funny. writing is LEAST favorite subject but the essays are easy.
I really enjoyed his class. it was a discussion class and if you participated it made the assignments much easier. he gave 4 essays all doable and he is a fair and rather lenient grader. it was a very interesting class and you can learn a lot in his class. I am a big fan.
Solid professor who allows for revisions and has students trade papers on due dates instead of handing in. Material is simple if you have basic writing interpretation skills. 5 essays that range from 2-5 pages each, a couple are research papers but you shouldn't worry he guides you through MLA often so it's hard to mess up. Very funny and nice guy.
Best professor I ever had. He makes his criteria very clear from day one. He has the class proofread each other's papers, which is helpful. He makes his class very interesting and very easy to understand. He's also has so several funny stories. I would be surprised if anyone from my class failed. I passed with an easy A!
Awesome professor. 3 2-3 page essays and 1 5-7 page research paper. Class is just reading from the textbook and discussing. If you put effort into your papers it'll be very easy to walk away with an A.
Dr. Kaufman is a solid professor, he really knows how to keep you engaged. I feel like my writing skills improved so much thanks to him.
I ended up dropping the course. First thing he says when he assigned the first essay assignment was "i don't care about your opinion." I love to give my opinion. Maybe if he would've allowed us to give our opinion and not stay on the same topic "race" and "what the writer is trying to say", I would've considered staying.
I will never forget when I went to him and asked what could I do to get an A. He said "Write a better paper". He is a good lecturer but he does not care about helping his students learn (in contrary). Be prepared to keep your opinions to yourself bcz he won't agree with anything other than his opinion. He's the pettiest grader. Arrogant.
4 papers throughout the semester. One of these being a 10-page research paper, the topic of your choosing. Class isn't *easy*, as in you need to put work in if you expect a good grade but Prof. Kaufman is very open to helping and making sure you get that good grade.
Professor Kaufman seems like a tough cookie, but he cares about his students doing well. He says he grades off of the work you put out, not the effort, so try to write well on all assignments. Take notes off of the class discussions each session, it'll be helpful to refer back to them when writing your papers.
Gives four 2-3 page papers including one 5-7 page research paper. He's engaging, and prompts his students to delve into their established perspectives of the world and it's issues. About 1-2 readings every week, no tests. As long as you put some effort into your essays you'll pass. He actually cares about the students, but he won't baby you either.
Professor Kaufman is a really good professor. He is laid back and really encourages his students to participate. There are two big papers but he gave good guidelines. Weekly journals which are also pretty straight-forward. If you do the work and follow along, you should do okay.
Professor Kaufman is literally the most chill philosophy teacher I've had so far. He doesn't care for students to finish their work for the sake of finishing their work. He prefers his students to learn the material first and be able to understand the material coherently. His PHR-111 class consists of two papers, and the rest is engaging lectures.
He is an okay professor. He is not strict on how to write the papers. But the only downside is that the topics for the paper were too narrow, especially the research paper. It would have been more helpful if he gave some writing tips as well, instead of essentially doing readings during class. Dr. Kaufman does not give any grades for the papers.
He's not a bad teacher but will make you redo your papers if he didn't like it. He will call you out sometimes In front of the class. He's not a bad teacher but just get ready to do your papers really well or else you'll have to rewrite everything again. He grades based on participation and you need to go to this class all the time or you fail.
Contumelious, quisquillious, snippy, and bellicose. Avoid at all costs!
Have taken him twice and his personality may not be for everyone. He is not one to sugarcoat what he is saying and is a straight shooter, although I found his digressions amusing. MUST do your readings, write your papers, and participate often in discussions to do well. Attendance not mandatory but you must be in class in order to participate.
Kaufman is a no nonsense professor and it is honestly refreshing. He didn't present us with grades for each paper and were told to ask him "how we were doing" to get a feel of what our grade was. That was the most nerve wracking part of the entire class. Otherwise, do your readings and take his feedback into consideration and you should be fine.
It is very straightforward and will reward you with reassurance when answering discussions with a good reply. will call you out for nonsense replies, but show up and participate in class discussions and write a proper paper, and you should receive no lower than a B.
The only thing bigger than his nose is his ego. Avoid, whenever, wherever you can!
If you are English major and love English Comp. Go for it. Personally I am not a English major. 3 essays and 1 ten page research paper. Be on time. make sure you read. beware of mini pop quizzes. He also doesn't care if you are stressed out, overloaded with exams or other classes he will expect you to give 100% in the class. Does not use Canvas.
