He is passionate about social work. Gives a lot of examples of issues based on his experience. Quizzes every class meeting. Easy to talk to. Patient. Highly recommend.

Alan is an awesome professor. We had daily quizzes from the reading. He is very knowledgeable and has awesome stories to accompany the lessonlecture. I would definitely take him again.

The usual routine of class consists of taking a quiz, having presentations, and discussing the assigned chapter for the day. Alan incorporates a lot of examples into discussions, most of them pertaining to his experiences in the social work field. He is a great professor and I recommend taking a class from him when you have the chance to.

His class was filled with a lot of personal stories and experiences. It is a very easy class, however there are quiz's everyday. He involves the class a lot and there is very little homework.

I learned a lot in this class because he shared many career experiences, I found this aspect helpful and enjoyable. It was a break from the usual textbook regurgitation. He is personable and shows interest in having students succeed in class and in their social work career. Great Class!1

Alan was such a great teacher to have this semester. He is very passionate about his career and it shows through his lectures. If you are well prepared and do the assigned readings, you will most likely do very well in his class. Alan Misbach made every aspect of this SO INTERESTING. I loved every minute of the class. Alan is an amazing teacher. Not only is Alan very knowledgeable within the field, he brings real life experiences into the classroom. The nature of this class needs compassion, sensitivity, and understanding, and Alan has that in abundance.

I loved the diversity that Alan brought to the school. He is very experienced in the field of social work, and what better than someone who knows what they are talking about.

Alan was clear and concise with what was expected. He focused more on real world application than just reading out of the textbook. He is also very kind and willing to work with you if you're having trouble.

Pretty much all of the learning in this class came from the reading. There is a quiz every class period and the questions are submitted by the students or by Alan himself. The mid-term and the final tests are mostly based on these questions. Alan is very knowledgeable and passionate about the topic and teaches using these experiences.

Alan worked as an LCSW for 20 years before coming to teach, this was his first semester at UVU. Very applicable information if you are going into social work, not just theoretical stuff like some other professors that have limited client time. Also amazing guest speakers.

Daily quizzes are short and include bonus questions. Lectures are based on field experiences. Alan is completely willing to help his students and he wants everyone to succeed, don't be mistaken though, this class is rigorous and he is a rigorous professor.

He gives a quiz each class period that is from the textbook. The students submit he questions so you don't really need to read the textbook just study the submitted questions. Also he has a student teacher, she is satanic about he few papers you have to write. Expect to fail each paper. She's brutal!!!

Alan is an amazing professor! He has years of experience as a social worker so be prepared for some amazing stories :) Unlike so many other teachers I've had, Alan truly cares about his students. My confidence in becoming a social worker has skyrocketed since taking his class! A UVU gem :)

Alan is one of my favorite professors. While all of the professors in the social work program are wonderful, Alan is my favorite. He is one of the most kind and most knowledgeable people I have ever met. Every class I left feeling more inspired to be a social worker.

He is one of my favorite professors of all time. He is so knowledgeable and has so much experience in the field. He s very much respected by everyone and is so kind to everyone. He likes to have fun in class. He has quizzes everyday, but they aren't horrible. Definitely take him for classes if you have an opportunity. He is one of the very best!

Alan is one of my favorite teachers, I always looked forward his to class. He's a teacher that cares about his students and wants them to succeed. Attending class isn't mandatory but you won't pass due to daily participation and quizzes. This is a class you won't want to miss, simply because you'll end up loving it. I highly recommend him!

Amazing Professor.

Alan is a great professor. Has a lot of personal experience in the field to know what he is talking about. Also, he is really great with assignments and making sure you pass the class. Sometimes I wish it was a little more structure to learn more about what the text teaches, but I still learned a lot from all of his personal experiences he shared.

Every class is a group discussion on issues related to social work. Alan has so much knowledge and experience in the field. he openly shares it and you will learn a lot of real world experience from him.

The knowledge that I have gained from Alan's class has made me aspire to be the best social worker that I can be. His lectures are amazing! There are daily quizzes so be prepared for quite a bit of reading and participation is required but overall a highly recommended class.

Once you get used to the way Alan's classes are run you'll love it. Really clear about expectations. You HAVE to participate and HAVE to give comments, so if you don't like going to class or talking you'll struggle. Alan is great, like the rest of the reviews on here say. I felt like I learned a lot from his "real talk" about social work in Utah, and felt like he offered a fair perspective. For context, I am not a member of the LDS church, but I know he is. Even so, he was able to discuss critical topics regarding the church. This was refreshing.

I took Alan's SW1010 online class, and honestly he was one of the best professors I've had at UVU. Even though it was an online course, he made the class feel personal and easy to follow. His modules were super organized, his feedback actually helped me improve, and he was always clear about what he expected.

Alan was fantastic and one of my favorite teachers ever. Having guest speakers every week who work in the field was an awesome view of what the career and material looks like in practice, this kept assignments exciting. There were also SO many options for extra credit, and every week had the flexibility of choosing which assignments you'd do.

Alan is a great professor, he is super easy to talk to and so understanding. Had to watch quite a few videos but his choice of video lecture lets you turn it into 2x speed. Overall the class was not difficult and if you find yourself behind you can always just talk to him.
