he shows a lot of videos in class, which are interesting and informative. he has a nasal voice that gets annoying at times, might want to avoid him if that kind of thing bothers you. his exams cover a lot of material, so they are difficult to study for.
He livens the class up with his jokes. Grades pretty easy. No homework. Understands you really don't want to be there.
Tests are super hard!
This guy is sooo awesome!!! I set the curve for both mid terms and im not even a genius!!! He livens up the material and makes it fun! totally reccomend him!
I like him, he's pretty laid back, but the tests were formidable.
Attendance doesn't count & notes don't help you to study for the test really. If you don't like going to class & like to read, it's the class for you. 3 tests, he gives you the essay questions, & 1 paper.
excellent professor, an amazing man! i was unable to complete the course due to illness, but i learned amazing things while i was there, and became completely fascinated with psychology. the things i learned.... WOW!!!!!
Very easy, laid back, and understanding, yet explains things so you actually understand the concepts. Adds his jokes-both funny and corny-but it livens up the class.
He's laid back, and goes off on a lot of tangents, but he is very nice and is funny, once I started to understand his sense of humor. The class is quite easy for an honors course. But if you like to learn a lot without having to do too much work, you'll probably like this class.
good and way rad. i like his teaching style. hes structured but also likes to stray off and be funny. take any of his classes. hes a keeper.
Great prof, very interesting and not very demanding. Tests are on lecture and book, so make sure you read the highlights of the chapters.
Very laid back...doesn't count attendance or give busywork...lectures are pointless, just read the book and show up for the test.
One of the best professors I have had! Makes the class very interesting and has a great sense of humor. Would highly suggest for any class you can get him for!
fun teacher, easy class, interesting discussions
Awesome professor. Does not believe in redundancy or "busy-work". Tests are clear-cut and from the text. No surprises. He loves nursing and science driven majors. He has sympathy for you so, milk it while you can.
he's a great teacher. very friendly and funny and great at getting the matieral across. usually keeps you interested.
He makes the class really interesting and his cheesy jokes are great. he is a riot, gotta love him. and he is more than fair in grading.
Oda is a great professor. He is very clear in his lectures, and takes time to make sure you understand. He keeps class interesting with stories so that you can understand.. He's a little crazy sometimes but it's pretty funny! take his class! totally worth it!
By far, one of the friendliest and helpful professors at APU! Whether your a psych major or not, you should definately find an excuse to take one of his classes. Highly recomend!
Very easy. No homework, only three tests and a couple papers. But very dry and not very interesting or engaging, and dry humor. I wouldn't recommend him if you're looking for an interesting class.
I love this professor. He is so quirky and funny yet he really shows his intelligence in class. He likes to make class fun and informative. His essays aren't too complicated and he really likes to help out students in need. One of my favorite professors.
Oda is a nice/funny guy. Classes are easy, but he grades hard. Not a lot of work in the class, all you have to do is study for quizzes and write REALLY good papers.
Oda is awesome. He is so funny. Beware of his tests though. He makes it seem like you don't need to read the book for his tests but the book is the most helpful thing!!! His tests are very hard. But he is worth taking just for his amazing stories and enthusiasm.
Extremely engaging. Great personality, and though he may recycle jokes on occassion, the class never got boring. Not only that, but he gets the material across very well. You will need to have some self-discipline, though. It's a college class: he sometimes acts like it's nothing, but that doesn't mean you can slack off. The tests are hard.
quite possibly my favorite teacher at APU. funny, good teacher, and genuinely cares about his students. i've taken classes from him twice and hope to take more in the future.
Oda is a good prof with a good sense of humor. He engages the class and you will learn the subject. All things considered, he's one of the best profs at APU. He really does care about your ability to apply the information.
good class! as long as you get the notes if you missed class and study his study guides, the test should be alright.
Funny and quirky. Makes boring material more interesting by telling stories and using examples. No quizzes and doesn't take take attendance. Grade is all based on 4 tests, but they're not that hard if you study class notes and study guides. It's a good class!
Probably one of the best professors you will have at this school. Really nice guy, great at explaining, easy to understand. He is very intelligent but is able to relate concepts in an easy way. TAKE HIM.
Oda is great at explaining concepts and uses really good examples. He is funny and interesting. The tests weren't that great...just multiple choice and one short and one long essay...one paper, not hard
He is such a great teacher! I got so much out of his class. He made it interesting to go to class, and uses plenty of examples (most of them having to do with his kids and the fact that he's asian and short). Definitely take him!
Great Teacher, makes really boring things interesting. Highly recommend Oda. Watch out for the video of baby being bored though.
Really tried hard to help the students understand. He was incredably clear and made sure that the students had a grasp on the concepts. Loves to joke around and have a good time, but i also learned more in this stats class than some of my peers got out of thier "business" stats classes. I really enjoyed him and would recomend him for this class.
This class was fun and really interesting. We did have some problems with copywrites and reserve readings, which made the class extremely difficult. He did understand and try hard to work with his students.Quizes and papers were a lot but great. I would recomend him and the class, although it is entirely different from his lower division classes.
Loved this professor! He is funny and lively and makes the class go by fast. There is no homework and only 4 tests. Show up, take good notes, and keep up with the reading. He talks super fast so consider typing your notes. He gives you a study guide for the essay questions. The tests are a little hard but the teacher is great and I learned a lot.
Hilariously awkward. He tries to talk about sex without saying the word... it's very entertaining. Also, his class is very easy, but you still learn.
Great prof! Looked forward to class and learned a lot. I am not a pysch major but I learned a lot of life lessons and basic pysch stuff. Interesting class because he made it that way. He is funny and cares about his students
Great Prof. I really enjoyed class. Pretty easy, i didnt do much and it got a B. Only three tests, so must do good in those to earn a good grade. Then at the end of the semester you have to write an easy paper. I strongly recommend him!!!
This a particularly quality class if you like a little Japanese man who talks about his family and Asian culture as well as periodically cleanses his hands with some Purell. He is a really nice, genuine fellow with plenty of knowledge on the topic that he wants to make accessible. Be sure to read the book even if it is not discussed in class!
oda is a great prof! he's funny and laid back. we had a few essays and one group project but no tests or other assignments. i didn't learn a ton in this class but i'm fine with that because i'm not a psyc major. overall, pretty good class and oda is great! (his kids are stinkin' adorable too!)
Oda was a funny little man. i have a weird sense of humor, but he kept me laughing. he gives study guides for the test and its pretty easy to get an A. He always makes funny comments about his wife and kids too. im hoping to take him for more classes here!
He is a really nice professor. Two midterms and a final, which he curves. There is one essay, but its pretty simple. Read the book for the tests!
Probably the best teacher at APU. He's very clear and he's always available to help one-on-one. He's very friendly and he truly wants everyone to do well. Take him any chance you get.
Oda's class is interesting, but can get boring fast.Take home midterm and final which are not as easy as they seem.Weekly quizes.Overall class is okay, take it if you have the option.
He gives great illustrations and examples that help apply the material to real-life stuff. He does his best to keep the material interesting, and he's pretty engaging. A good man, inside & outside the classroom
Honestly, everyone had told me Oda would be great, but in this Stats class, I found him to be quite the opposite. If you want an easy class, sure I guess you could take him. But he shows no interest in his students, always showed up late, told horrible jokes, and never really taught anything compared to the other stats classes.
Great professor. Very helpful. I learned a lot.
really cool prof; simple material, for the most part; very understanding; reasonable workload... basically if you do the work and actually put some thought in it, you will get the grade; interesting class.
Oda is such a helpful professor. I was dreading to take this class because I am terrible at math. He makes sure that the entire class understands each concept before moving forward. He keeps the class entertaining with his humor. Definitely recommend taking!
This is a Gen Ed class. If you want to do well on the tests, you have to actually read the book, which nobody has time for.. GenEd classes shouldn't be like this. All my other friends' human growth classes were super easy and interesting too and at least got tested on in-class lecture material. For us showing up was useless. He's nice, but just no.
I have taken him twice. He's always there to help you, and very caring not only about your academic life but also your personal life as well.
Dr. Oda is one of the best professors I have encountered on Azusa Pacific University's campus. He is highly knowledgeable, very clear with his expectations, and makes class interesting. If I was ever having trouble (which was not often, the class is pretty cut and dry) he was always willing to help out and take extra time.
Dr. Oda is a phenomenal professor. Stats isn't always the easiest subject but he breaks down all equations, problems, etc. to the point where it's easy to understand. He's really nice and approachable so take advantage of his office hours. He made the workload very manageable with just 3 tests and homework assignments. Recommend him for any class!
Dr. Oda is totally unique. He's enthusiastic about psych, which helps when you're not. He makes class interesting and he's a really sweet guy out of class. He's very clear in what he expects from his students, and his class is fairly easy. But he doesn't dumb stuff down. He respects his students. Great class, great prof!
Boring class. The professor gives a reading assignment, then regurgitates all of the information on a power point. I come to class to grow/learn, and so I was extremely disappointed when I discovered there would be no critical thinking involved with this class. Super easy, but a waste of money if you are going to college to learn. Nice guy though.
His exams are not based on his lectures, but on the book. He has several papers throughout the semester, but only 1-1.5 pages long and it's based on your childhood development. He tends to move around the due/test dates.
I love Dr. Oda so much. He always manages to keep me engaged in what he is teaching. I would totally recommend him. So far he's only given two exams and no homework, so if you do good on the exams you'll be good.
Dr. Oda is by far the best professor to take for Psych. He knows the topic so well and makes sure that every student understands it. His lectures are never boring because he engages the students with his humor and interesting examples. This class has taught me so much about psychology. Take Oda for any class that you can! No homework, and 4 tests.
take this class. but if you're a psych major take another one don't buy textbook, not worth it if you put in effort you'll pass posts notes on sakai attendance not mandatory cool professor, really nice & funny tough grader, but manageable. only less than 5 assignments the whole semester i love psych but wasn't enthused about this class
Awesome professor! He's funny, engaged, and wiling to help. Very approachable, and this class is a easy A if your willing to put in some time to study for the bigger tests. You don't always have to come to class, as he doesn't take role, but it helps to hear him explain things! Overall, very enjoyable, great guy.
I really liked this Professor, he's very funny and gives a lot of examples. The only problem I had was that he talked very fast and the fact that the class is merely graded on the exams was a bit tough; but if you study the material thoroughly you should be fine!
He's a kind and understanding man who does the occasional throw in of the dad jokes. But just to be real rn - this man gave tests on info he didn't really cover in class, even tho all we did was lectures. His study guides WILL NOT HELP YOU. Filled them out with 2 other people, no help. Gotta read your book to get better than a C, I'd say. If only.
It was his first time teaching this class. He taught the information as best as he could. He is an amazing professor and person. However, the tests are very hard even if you study. Must go to class to learn information if you want to pass.
Oda is great. Participation isn't mandatory. You aren't required to purchase the textbook. He references it in class and he certainly recommends you buy it, but you'll survive without it. The class is lectures only. There are hardly any discussions; you're in and you're out. Oda is a funny guy, and he is clearly passionate about his profession.
You have a couple of easy papers and the tests - they are challenging, so you have to really study for them. You also have to complete a sona credit (easy). His lectures are amazing, he makes is really interesting. This is first science class I have really enjoyed. Even though I had some trouble with it, his lectures was worth it.
He's an extremely nice guy to everyone. He definitely knows his stuff. His teaching style is a bit monotonous. I missed a class about every week, and when there, I did not listen at all. I still passed, so I don't think he fails people unless he has to. All the papers are graded easily, but the tests are crazy hard. Easy to pass, hard to get an A
i didn't open my online textbook ONCE. total waste of money, he doesn't tell you to use it at all. But Oda is wonderful, he is a great professor and engages with his class, funny and nice. However, there are only 4 exams going toward your grade, NOTHING ELSE, maybe 1 or 2 extra credit opportunities but that's it. But his study guides are great !
He is a great guy and very nice but when it comes to teaching, by far my worst experience. Our grades relied on 3 mid terms and one final. Not to mention his tests are extremely hard. The class felt Very scattered, we never got our grades back to us, and never replied to my several emails.
Odas a good teacher, but there wasnt much that went into the grade book. The class was pretty easy though and hes a good lecturer.
Strange teaching style, makes odd comments about his family and children that made the class uncomfortable. Didn't give timely feedback. Not necessarily a hard class, but not an enjoyable experience.
Prof. Oda acknowledges at the beginning that he tends to jump around and go rather quickly and he lets you know it's okay to ask him to go back. He isn't exactly a "warm" professor, but he cares about students and fully supports the ones who put themselves out there. He even helped me get a research opportunity set up for next semester!
Oda is a nice guy that and knows he goes to fast with his lectures. Your grade will all be dependent on midterms, class average for many of tests were below 60%. Evident that his study guides do not help, nor is his teaching style engaging enough for students. Not my best experience in the classroom.
This professor seems like a nice guy, and he is good at lecturing, but he is not a good professor. His study Guides suck and do not even line up with the exams, and you are guaranteed a bad grade in the class, do not take! He does not even bother to learn anyones names. And your grade is pretty much just exams so you are kind of set up to fail.
two midterms and a final exam. the material is hard and he speaks really fast. he goes over the homework in class and some tests are take home.
His class can basically be an online class, just goes over the powerpoints in class. talks a lot about his family and his class is based of 3 midterms and a final exam
Oda is an awesome teacher. The class is based around 3 midterms and a final exam. Each exam is half multiple choice and an essay section. He posted the slides online so you can study those for the exam. USE THE BOOK WHEN REVIEWING FOR EXAMS. He will pull questions straight out of the book and throw them in the test. He's a nice guy , solid teacher.
Professor Oda really helped me understand Stats better. He gives you light homework about every night but he goes through the problems with you at the end of class! They're due by exam dates. 3 exams with Part 1 is multiple choice and Part 2 is take home. He knows he goes fast so if you need him to slow down or repeat something let him know!
Professor Oda has a lot of teaching experience and it shows. He keeps the lectures engaging with his jokes and throws in personal examples that help you understand the lectures. His tests arent that hard and their isnt a big workload. He even goes out of his way to host study sessions before exams. Favorite professor so far, deserves a raise.
I like Oda. Hes a nice person, this class was a bit confusing,I wish I understood it more. DataAnalysis can be tough and there isn't a clear layout of notes or assignments. 3exams including final half take home, kinda daily short homework. SPSS can be overwhelming and he can go quickly. Ask him to repeat things and he will! text online free. Hi Oda:)
Best professor I ever had. Not only is he incredibly intelligent, but I never met a teacher who was so caring for the well-being and future of his students. There is so much to learn from him academically, spiritually, and also in terms of character. I want to be a professor someday and he's an excellent role model.
Professor Oda is just AMAZING! Such a caring and intelligent professor. I took him for other classes like Human Growth, and the assignments, although easy really help you grow as a person while learning deeply about psychology. He's such an admirable spiritual mentor, teacher, and role model. I HIGHLY recommend that you take him!!
Course was during COVID, so he removed assgnmnts to help us complete only what was vital given we lost 2.5 weeks of class. Always available to Zoom, even Sunday nights. A bit disorganized & sometimes unclear, but will always address confusion and work w you for ur success if u ask. Good professor to build relationship with, esp. for career help.
Honestly, I have never had a professor like Oda. It has been years since I have rated a professor on here, but I had to give credit where credit is due. He has been so helpful and is always accessible outside of class. I hope I have the chance to take him for something again. I have a lot of respect for who he is as a person and professor.
professor oda is the best professor i have had in college, hands down!! he is caring/kindhearted, always available for extra help. class time goes by quickly because he is making hilarious jokes, and we learn material very thoroughly. before the midterms and final exam, he hosts review sessions!! BEST PROFESSOR EVER!!!!!!
Professor Oda is amazing. He truly cares about his students and it shows. He's always an email away and is easily accessible if you ever have any questions or comments. He definitely made the transition to distance learning smooth and easy. (plus: he's really funny!) Highly recommend.
Can be a little disorganized and confusing with what is needed for assignments but always clears up any confusion. Easily accessible through email and is extremely reasonable with any problems you might have. If you get the chance to take Oda for any course I would highly recommend! 1 midterm, group presentation/paper, annotated bibliographies
Great professor. Very helpful
Oda was a great professor! he doesn't give out homework, but you will have to write about 3-4 papers for this class. Take good notes and even though he doesn't take attendance, show up to class or you won't do too well. I never read my book (he did say we should though), I studied a LOT for the exams and did well. He just wants you to pass.
Amazing wisdom and very knowledgeable
Professor Oda is beyond caring and really wants you to pass his class. You can tell! He constantly asks if we understand him and will change the way he presents the material if we don't. Our grades are mainly off of tests but he hosts review sessions and gives a study guide before it. They both are extremely helpful. I would take his class again!!
He was a great and funny professor. Very easy going and understanding. No hw/classwork but grades are only based on 3 exams and your final. Don't worry though as it's all multiple choice and he does review sessions of everything you need to know for the exam. As long as you attend those, you don't need to stress too much about studying for the exam
Professor Oda is such a great professor! You can tell he really cares about his students and is passionate about the course, he is very understanding and thorough. He holds review sessions before every test and gives you a study guide, if you study those you will do great. He also doesn't force religion, he prays for us after every class.
One of the best professors I took my freshman year! He makes the content clear and concise and he answers any questions you may have :) Also, he is super funny so be prepared to laugh.
Great professor! Very understanding and invested in his classes. Good at explaining. Didn't need the textbook. Listen to his lectures/take notes and that should set you up fine for the exams:)
Oda is an amazing professor. He doesnt assign homework (genpsych), and he hosts review sessions before each test. His lectures are super entertaining and easy to remember due to his teaching style. Definitely take him!
While I was already familiar with most of the content from taking AP Psych, I still attended all of Oda's lectures because he straight up just does "stand-up comedy" while explaining all the concepts. He is also very knowledgable, even when I asked him the most obscure of questions he would have an explanation for it! Only grades by tests!
Really chill, easy, and fun professor. He loves to understand his students and he loves to help in any way possible. He is extremely understanding and flexible. He makes the lectures relatable and easy to understand. highly recommend. (WARNING: look at the syllabus for any hidden assignments, he's not the best with CANVAS)
He's the best and really makes you excited to learn! He has the best stories that he shares to give us examples of the content he is teaching. Best most wholesome professor who actually cares about your wellbeing. I really hope I get the chance to take another class with him in the future!!!
Down-to-earth professor. Class is graded merely by exams, but they are straightforward as he hosts review sessions for them. Great experience!
Professor Oda makes the content engaging and straightforward. He hosts helpful review sessions before exams, and unstuckstudy proved to be a great study companion alongside his study guides. With his caring approach, this class is a great option.
I would take again! I learned a lot from lectures!
His lectures are genuinely so interesting! He relates my aspects of psychology to real life examples or scenarios which makes the content stick. There are about 4 big exams and some essays but there is more than enough time to study for and complete them. It is so refreshing to meet a professor like Oda who is so knowledgable & caring to students.
Such a nice professor. He genuinely cares about his students and has great lectures. He doesn't respond to emails a lot so it's best to talk to him in person. He doesn't give much homework so your grade will be based on how well you do on the midterms so be sure to study; however they aren't too difficult if you understand the basic content.
Loved him! Always was on my side, ready to talk about anything. Loves what he does but not in a way that's overbearing. He genuinely cares about all of his students and wants them to do well.
Professor Oda is super sweet and his stories make each topic interesting to learn about! I enjoyed his class and he's always willing to answer questions. He found a way to correlate the topics with current events or stories to keep us engaged and he's pretty flexible with deadlines due to Canvas issues. Definitely recommend him as a professor :)
Professor Oda is such a sweet professor! Although his class is lecture heavy, he is always making class fun and engaging. I definitely recommend you take his class since he doesn't assign a lot of work (just make sure to do them — they do so much for your grade) and because he is so supportive and genuinely cares for his students.
Professor Oda is hilarious and genuinely caring. He's engaging in every lecture and very informative. There isn't too much reading and his tests are quite easy. He's also relaxed about attendance and posts his lectures afterward, but I highly recommend going in person because he shares helpful information during class.
