I like Osman. His econ 200 class is easy and he tries to make it interesting.
don't take his 501 class--take P.H. Kim's if at all possible

Easy Grading Scale
Easiest A in college so far! I only went to the midterms and got A+ on both of them. Really easy curve.
Could it get any easier? I think not. Example: on both midterms a 30/40 was a 100 %. Yes, you could miss 10 questions and still get an A. Oh and the final was non-cumulative. Enough said.
the best damn econ class in the land. What more can be said?
easy exams. don't bother going to lecture. read the book and review the notes on the web.
Insanely easy...lots of bonus on tests...no attendence
midterms are easy, so don't worry about those. I studied everything and the Final was impossible, I went in with a 100% for the class and got a B for final grade.
Easy A, Big Curve. Don't go to class or check online notes. Just do the homework and read the book.
the final is a KILLER
Once you get past his Dr. Evil accent, the class is pretty easy. Lots of bonus.
he made an easy class a little harder because of the boredom factor....just do the homework, dont listen to him...he goes on random tangents that are potentially confused....i learned to stop listening pretty early in the class...

Since there were over 600 people in the class, it was pretty easy. He had a huge curve. I heard he's evil outside of class, though. He told someone she might as well jump out of a window because her grade was so bad.
This class is easy if you study. Lectures are useless. Instructor is very willing to help students. He likes patterns on the exams and don't let the trick questions fool you.
I thought he was very boring, but it was almost immpossible to not get an A...If you don't get an A in that class you will probablly never get an A in any class at OSU.
Its not worth going to lecture...just copy notes off line if you want. The final was surprisingly tough for me, but the first two midterms and the hw should all be easy A's with his hugh curve.
don't go to class. the study guide was the best way to get the material
Very difficult professor, tests are almost impossible.
Easy class, all he does in lecture is read the notes from the powerpoint online. Just skip lecture and study the online notes for the tests, they are somewhat rough. I rated the class bad due to the monotony and his repetitiveness.
The professor makes the test fair, however he simply runs slides of the material in the book. He has never actually shown the processes used to induce an answer.
I didn't like his teaching style at all. Look for trick questions on the test. I wouldn't take this professor again. He makes what should have been an interesting class into something tedious. Don't even bother going to lecture.
The class was a cinch until the final, which seemed to jump many levels in difficulty. I got out with an A, but I was nervous after I left the exam room.
You will learn nothing about economics unless you apply yourself outside of class, yet you will still get A's on the midterms. The final exam is 10x harder than anything throughout the course.
Horrible teacher! Don't go to lectures...it's pointless. And the final exam is a killer.
Very willing to help/communicate with students. Difficult exams, but very fair. Overall, a very helpful, good professor.
Terrible teacher! He is boring and as others have stated, just shows slides of stuff from the book! Very pointless and a big disappointment.
If you must take econonomics, be sure to get Osman. His lectures are pretty boring, but he is very clear in the way he teaches. An A is very attainable with the way he curves.
Exam curve is friggin awesome, you can miss 10 outta 30 on the midterms and that's a 100%, and the final's curve is almost as good. He's boring as hell and going to his lectures is a complete waste of time. Overall an easy class, what else matters?
Lectures are really boring. Tries to teach but is very hard to understand. Tests were really hard!!
EASY "A". Do you know how its easy? I went to class and read the book. I bet all of the people who gave him a "hard" comment didn't go to lecture everyday or didn't read the book... easy A easy A easy A easy A!

I only went to the first two lectures of this course and got an A. I had no prior economics experience either. Easy A as long as you do the homework assignments and read the book every once and a while. Horribly boring class/teacher though!
I went to two lectures and read most of the book. Gives a lot of bonus questions on midterms and final so he expects you to get an A and you should.
His curving system makes it impossible not to get an A
If he didn't take attendance, there would be no need to go to class. If you read the book and you are not an idiot, this is an easy A. He gives ridiculously inflated grades, in large part because his tests are so easy.
Forgetting the date for his first midterm was a problem and so was sleeping in class, but other than that, his class is a breeze.
Easiest class I have ever taken.
Easy A
The class is extraordinarly easy. I would rate it easier then most Gen Eds. Most of the material is old hat, assuming you did well in the intro courses (and attempted to really understand the material) you should find nothing new, rather dissapointing...

Best Teacher I ever had. I miss him till this day. He teaches not only Econ but life during his "fireside chats". You could say I love him.
boring and let me feel sleepy....
Funny guy, always has good side comments. Speaks a little soft, and if u're in a big lecture u can fall asleep. I stoped going to lectures after the first week. He curves all his exams with built in extra credit questions. Really nice guy, I took his class twice & told my friends to do the same!
Most unhelpful teach, once was trying to ask him a question, he said he HAD to run. Dont let that mustache fool you, the online stuff is better than him!!! He should just be fired!
TERRIBLE prof! his tests are unbelievably hard... everybody you talk to in our class hates him and would love for him to be fired!
"The quantity DEMANDED *voice booms* of students taking this course is less than quantity SUPLIED, and therefore I should never teach this class." Maybe it's just me but he seems to go off on tangents during lecture that never really relate to what he's talking about even when he says it does.
Monotone voice; fake accent, obsolete, redundant class. This teacher read word for word from his powerpoint slides (posted online). If I wanted to be read to, I'd go back to Kindergarten!
very easy
I don't know what the other people were talking about, but this guy was incredibly easy. He gives bonus points for all the exams. I'm a 3.3 student and I aced the midterms. Very easy. Althought they are right that he just reads off slides and is boring. Worth it for the A. Take this class.
His midterms are BS. No wonder the grades were so low. I don't know what this guy is talking about half the time.
i loved this class and thats why i am taking another class with this guy again.
Difficult class. Lectures are boring and long. Exams are not easy, even though there are built in bonus it is still tricky. There was information on some of the exams that we never covered in class. Good luck.
This guy is increibly boring. I stopped going to lecture. But the exams are all easy. I am a 3.4 student and I got an A on each exam- 95%, 100%, 98%. The extra credit built in makes this class a joke.
I'm tired of people giving good ratings because they are a "3.3 or 3.6" student. OF COURSE IT'S EASY FOR YOU! YOU HAVE NO LIFE!!! On that note, had to take this guy twice because I'm in business and I have a 2.5 and I got B-'s so kiss my arse. (Had to keep it clean or else it would've been deleted).

Greatest Teacher at The Ohio State Univ
Boring but easy
Best class I've taken at OSU: why I decided to major in economics. Brought in awesome real life examples and told us how to stay motivated. However, my 501 experience was much different... (reviewed separately).
This guy is boring. Plus you can follow what he is saying all you want in class, but on the exams you'll see that nothing relates to what he said in class. He is hard and many people that I knew in the class failed! I barely passed with a C-
worst class i've ever taken. None of the TA's were any help, and I never had a clue what the hell osman was talkin about.
Enjoyed the class, learned a lot, tests were fairly easy.
Never went to any classes except to turn in homework. All you have to do is read the book and you will get an A in the class. I never went to one class and I got an A.
Studying for the midterms in the class makes you feel like you are going to go insane and there is no way to know the information that he picks for the questions.
Basically this class sucked hardcore. I felt as if I did not learn anything because I couldnt understand him and my TA was terrible. I would never recommend him to anyone if they have to take any Econ classes.
By far the worst Honors professor at Ohio State. Extrememly lazy, incomprehensible, arbitrary grading, and no curve. He must be hard of hearing because if he weren't he would put himself to sleep. The honors program should be embarassed to have him on the payroll.

Don't go to class, it's pointless. Lecture slides online. He has an awesome grading policy with built in extra credit on the tests. If you don't get at least a B in this class you probably should not have been accepted here. Easiest class I've taken. Don't other with lecture though.
Beyond hard and beyond boring. No curve. Essay tests. Very hard honors class with arbitrary grading done by a TA.
He was bland, but pretty easy for Econ. Multiple choice tests, so that's a plus!
suck up to him (brunch sunday morning) he gives you an A, he finds out you are a Conservative C-!
This Professor was extremely boring and the worst class I have ever taken at OSU. All the TA's couldn't speak English and half the lecture hall fell asleep daily.
His class was the only class I failed in my entire college career! DO NOT SHOW UP TO EXAMS LATE, he has no sympathy for tears!!
easiest class ive throughout my education. madly curves too. heard that honors class is harder with him. did not go to a single class and still got an a. just do all of the homework and read the book.
class is a total bore don't even bother going. All his lectures are online. TA's are a pain in the ass because they can't speak english, but thats standard for OSU. Multiple choice tests are cake
Worst professor ever!
this prof. was quite easy. i never went to class an still managed to pull a B. if you do all the homework and even glance at the readings it should be a piece of cake. although class was usually boring and the ta might has well spoke in their native languages the class was altogether okay
Not a good professor. Boring and asks you to do way to much work. But it is pretty easy to get an A if you do work, there's just a buttload of it to do.
Easiest class you will ever take. Test is 25 questions five bonuses questions added on. Final has 40 questions with 10 bonus questions added on. Don't need to go to any lectures. If you get less than A- you should drop out.
I took Econ 200 Au Qtr and Econ 201 WI Qtr... Both were taught by Osman... Hes good... teaches well... Cant blame him for Econ being boring.. Most importantly his exams are sweet... gives Bonus questions every time... plenty of margin for error
Go to class. Read. You'll be fine.
Never went to class, got As on all the homework, got Bs on all the midterms, and took the final. Ended up with a C in the class!!!!! So boring. do not take this class.
Easily the best class I have taken at OSU. Lectures were very clear and straightforward, and he offers great extra credit on all his exams. He teaches as a hobby, so he cares more about you liking the material than about making the class difficult. As long as you read the chapters and go to lecture, it's an easy A. I definitely recommend this class
Pretty easy class. His exams are 30 questions, but they are graded out of 25 so there are 5 built in bonus questions. Basically you can miss 5 questions and still make a 100 on the exam. His exams aren't too difficult either. Shouldn't be hard for anyone to make an A or B in this class.
Voice was very monotone. Couldn't hold my attention. Usually daydreamed or listened to music, when I went to class.
yea he's not too bad. tests are 30 questions but only the best 25 are graded so its not too hard. anyone should get an A or B in the class cause he wants you to find econ interesting. he's how most teachers should be.
he is cool! atleast he is better than the other econ professors
Even though there were bonus points on the tests, some of the questions were still kind of tricky. Not the worst economics class. Questions come straight from the book or the website or study guides provided by the publisher. Go over therse and some of the questions will be on the tests!
Osman is possibly the most boring human you will ever encounter, you think his fake accent would be amusing but it's not. Also if you have a problem like perhaps a recitation teacher failing you by accident and ask him to possibly help you with the matter he will send you a quick cute little "I dont handle grades" back
Enthusiastic. Great at relating economics to life. However, goes off on tangents and gets less enthusiastic as the quarter goes on.
Terrible for honors. gave huge pointless hw assignments worth 2% of the grade. impossible essay tests, lied about curving grades at the end of the quarter, boring as hell
puts the lectures online, makes his tests a possible 30 out of 25. Basically if you can teach yourself by reading the book you don't have to go to class and the bonus points on the tests makes it better too.
Extremely boring and confusing. Learn to read the book and teach yourself, because lectures are crap and TA's are all impossible to understand. The only benefit is the built in curve on midterms (you can miss 5 out of 30 and still have a 100%)
boring and confusing... don't take this guy
never went to class, but studied slides online instead and got a 100% on all midterms and final...know slides well and you'll be good
Extremely boring... I was so bored that I ended up not going to class. I said I would read the slides, but ended up forgetting to do that. Basically, go to class and stay awake even though it is so boring, or else you might end up with a C+ in the class when you could have gotten an A.
YOU HAVE BEEN MISLED AHHHHH please take some other teacher you will want to shoot yourself in his class monotone boring... save yourself now but if you can stand to go to two hours of boringness without sleeping and study slides you will get an A
relatively easy but you MUST read the book and try to understand the concepts on your own cuz sometimes he is just confusing to me. It helps to ask others for past exams paper. hehe
Offers extra credit on tests to make up for his inconsistencies in grading. The HW graders (TA's) are inconsistent compared to other classes. Reading/memorizing the book and doing online quizes are the keys to success on tests. Going to class helps solidify some concepts. His office hours are a time to learn about him, but he gives no free handouts, hints, or tips to your advantage.
Interesting class, I actually enjoyed listening to him speak. This class is easy if you just read the book and study his slides. He includes 10 built in bonus questions on every midterm which are a nice padding. Not very accessible, doesn't really care if you get it or not.
He is a very smart man. Many people have difficulty understanding him I think mainly because of their limited knowledge of the subject and prereqs. However, if you study up getting an A is easily attainable.
I went to class the first 2 weeks and never went again and got an A. I taught myself everything by reading the book. Easy class.
This is one of the best professors that I´ve had so far. Knows how to give good real life examples about the theories that he presentes. You don´t need to go to class to get a good grade but I highly recommend going!
Pretty easy class. Tests are easy once you get a general idea of what kinds of questions he will ask. Teaches with enthusiasm. Did not find myself bored in class.
Terrible!!! Hard to understand, doesn't curve in a class of 500.
Incredibly boring and useless. Refuses to teach any material in the book (he said that in class), so I refused to show up to most of the lectures. What does it matter if he never says anything useful or interesting in class? Spent a large portion of the class trying to convince people to go to a lunch with him to discuss econ major/minor...then
Very nice, great stories, and really makes it fair for you to succeed
I recieved an A in this class and went to two lectures and no recistations. If you read the book and use the study guide before the test there is no need to go to class and you will get an A
Osman is pretty cool. You have to read the text b/c thats where all the test questions come from. He throws in bonus questions on the tests which really help. He's a cool guy who just talks about current events in Econ. I'd recommend him if you can take him.
I didnt go to lecture the entire quarter, i just read the book and got 100's on all of the midterms. they are MC, with bonus questions.
Osman is the man, for a 500 level class this is very easy... All the notes are online along with sample quizzes and all his tests are 35 questions and he only grades 30 of them. If you study its easy to get a good grade
Class was easy because you can either go to class or read the book because he teaches from the book. Do the practice problems on the textbook's web-site because those are exactly like the questions you will see on the tests. Tests are 35 questions and he grades the tests out of 30. Highly recommend.
alan osman is outrageous on test days. He loves throwing candy at MLB type speeds but attending his class is almost discouraged because doing so helps not at all. Read the book and do the online quizzes (be wary of the incorrect answers) and you will do fine.
don't go to class, just read the book and you'll do fine. my only problem: i'm was having a hard time reading the charts because i'm colorblind. when i asked him for help he basically told me there was nothing he could do. it was frustrating trying to trace over the line graphs so i could makse sense out of them.
Professor Osman was a great professor. You don't even need to go to class but it helps. Read the book thoroughly, take the online quizzes, and get a hold of past exams and you will do fine. This is the most interesting class I have ever taken! Take this class!!
LOVE LOVE HIM. Best professor ever. He's very into what he teaches and makes it interesting to his class. Exams weren't bad as long as you read the book. No need to go to lecture, because his notes come start out of the book.
No need to go to lecture, just need to read and take notes from the book throughly. I got a 100 on the first exam, and then they started getting harder. Don't let the easyness of the first exam fool you. Test have 35 question but are only out of 30 point so you can get 5 wrong and still get a 100. If you study hard you can do well
Horrible Professor. If you enjoy listening to a guy talk about how lazy Americans are and how uneducated they are then take this class. He thinks he is funny and laughs at his own jokes. I recommend taking it with someone else.
Horrible professor. Never take a class from this guy. His tests are challenging, and the only things that you'll ever be able to learn from this class are found in the book.
Not good...at all. Didn't put anything in layman's terms, therefore he didn't teach as if it was a beginning level econ class. He didn't put the slides online and then flew through them during lecture, but said that he wanted us to interpret everything anyways. Exams are ridiculous, my TA even admitted one was way too hard.
He is one of the easiest professor in this school. He is very helpful. Hs exams are multipl choice nd he gives 5 bounous questions in each midterm (out of 35). In the final he gives 10 bonous qestions (ot of 50). Also, he gave each student 10 extra points due to surrevy that they fill in the final exam day.
easy course
this class can be hard. it requires very little time and you don't have to go to lecture. however, his tests are pretty tough. he gives 35 questions and grades it out of 30. if you know your stuff, you should be fine.
Don't bother attending lecture, everything you could ever possibly need is in the book. Exams are easy, there's really no reason for not getting an A as long as you have something resembling a pulse. Gives bonus points out the wazu, answering 30 out of 50 questions was necessary to receive a 100% on the final.
I attended 3 lectures the whole quarter so understand that you do not have to go to class what-so-ever. Everything is in the book! I need this for my business minor so I'm not too interested in economics as a nursing major--overall, it was an easy A! He gives bonus pts. on all exams. He seemed like a cool guy when I did go to lecture.
I've had 3 classes w/ osman and meet w/ him numerous times. his lower level classes are easier, his upper level classes get more difficult, and attendence is manditory (he will drop your grade). he is extremely intelligent, and was very helpful in my case. he does expect you to read the books and put in you 2 cents in higher level classes
nice teacher, just read the book and you'll be fine
Professor Osman has an incredibly impressive resumé and it really shows in his teaching. His lectures were intriguing and the exams challenging. If you're here to learn, take a class with him. No matter the course, you would have to be pretty ignorant to think poorly of his teaching.
I had Osman for another econ class and god what a difference. The other one I'd say he was border line easy, but 556 had four 2 page (single spaced) papers, four mid terms, and every class was like a test where he'd knock your participation grade if did not know the answer. it seems unreasonable to mefor a 500 level econ class.
Want to take a class where there is no real point to show up? Take an Osman class. He has no clue what's on the publisher's powerpoint until he reads it just after flipping to it, then he may decide to commment or go off on how great he is. Stickler for attendence, and does not honor his own guidelines. Can't trust his policies, and is a waste.
Upper level Osman classes are very challenging. You will be expected to write 4 papers, each 3 pages single spaced, take 3 exams, and participate every day in class. In class discussions were very interesting and informative in learning how trade theory applies in the real world. Lecture slides however were boring and from the textbook.
I went to lecture once and was still able to get an A-. Lectures are boring and contain a lot of useless information that isn't on any exam. If you read the chapters thoroughly, you should do pretty good on the midterms and final. Not a free A, as the subject material can be pretty challenging.
Very interesting guy. Didn't like him the first few weeks, but once you get used to his style, he becomes a great teacher who really helps you and encourages student participation. Read the books and raise your hand! If you do that, the tests will seem easy.
very intellectual guy. normally wears the same outfit for lecture. reminds me of steve jobs (ceo of apple) who wears the same outfit for debuting products.
I had him for Econ 200 and 201. 200: I attended every lecture and studied so hard, got a B-. 201: never attended class, never looked at his slides, just read the book, B-. His lectures and PowerPoint slides are pointless.
He was a pretty good lecturer but he is very boring. You don't need to go to lecture if you don't want to. Gives you extra credit on the exams so that makes it easier.
Osman was a decent professor. His Honors Money and Banking Class consists of 3 essay midterms, and a multiple-choice comprehensive final. He relies a TON on the textbook, so does the reading and you'll be fine. Sadly, although I felt like he cared about the material, he came off a lot of times as very unhelpful and lazy. Just read the text.
Osman's test are not too hard. They include 5 bonus questions on every midterm. The final included 10 bonus questions. However, the book is definitely necessary because his lectures are pointless so you have to teach everything to yourself. But the book is good enough to pass on every exam
About 10% of all of his tests are bonus points. Never went to class and made an A+. Gives extra credit for attending recitation.
TAKE HIM!!!! Do not go to lecture. Waste of time. I felt obligated to go up until the third mid term however, even I gave up because his lectures are so damn boring. I got an A just by reading the book. Easy class, tests are straightforward and gives TONS of extra credit. Learned a lot too. Recetation is a must.
Very, very easy. Buy the study guide, do the problems, and you will get an A. Lots of extra credit/free questions on tests.
easy easy class. you dont need to go to lectures just read the textbook and buy the study guide and do the problems and you should get an A. He has built in bonus questions so if you get 25 out of 30 correct you get an A so pretty difficult not to get an A.
Starts off 20 min. of every lecture with current events related to Econ. Cares about student. All multiple choice exams w/ built in bonus questions, attendance=bonus pts. Exams are based 100% off the textbook. If you read the book & understand the concepts, you will do well. 4 homework (all essays); lowest homework score dropped.
tips: don't go to class, you can teach yourself. read the book during the class time so you don't fall behind. do not cram for the exams, 18 chapters is a lot to memorize for the final. do the first 3 homeworks, last one is dropped so you can BS it. &be thankful for built in bonus questions! you can miss 5 on the midterms and get a 100%!
Attendance is not mandatory, but is taken at each class. Max 1.5 bonus points added at end of quarter based on attendance. One oral report. Two 10-page papers. Three midterms, all essay. Final 50 question MC. Go to class, participate, read the text and you will get a good grade. My tip to you: Don't fall behind on the reading!
Painfully boring lectures.. then again the material isn't all that exciting. He reminds me of a Star Wars villain. 3 Midterms in essay format, two 5-page single space papers, and a MC comprehensive final.
pretty good teacher but relatively unsympathetic. Don't let him catch you looking anywhere but at his face or (heaven forbid) taking a note, he'll yell at you in front of the whole class. Read your book- especially the boxed material, that's where a lot of the midterm questions come from.
Very easy class. Attended two or three classes. I'd suggest the study guide/book if he makes one available, just take the practice quizzes in those before tests/finals and this is an easy A. His upper level classes are hard though...
This class is really easy. You can either not go to class and read the book, or you can go to class and listen and learn the same thing and do just really well on the tests. But you don't have to do both.
Easily the best Econ prof i have ever had. Very smart man. Listen to every word he says. You will learn a lot in his classes.
Dr. Osman is an excellent teacher. He simplifies everything and doesn't bore you with useless details. Would highly recommend taking another class taught by him.
His 556 class was awesome. The exams are a series of essays and they are always fair questions. He purposely asks questions that benefits those who have read the required assignments and came to class WHILE frustrating the hell out of the slackers who skipped class and didn't do the readings. AWESOME TEACHER, IF YOU COME TO CLASS
Don't have to go to class and he gives a high percent of bonus questions in midterms and finals
I really liked Professor Osman. He is really dry but he does a good job relaying and teaching the material. His tests were somewhat challenging but there were plenty of bonus possibilities. However he does not curve. But if you read the book and come to class it is a really easy A.
Once you get past his arrogance and realize he has a lot of valuable experience to share you will love this class. Uses real world examples to back-up his teaching. There is not a day that passes without using/reading something that you learned in this course from Alan.
A very knowledgeable but sometimes hard to understand professor. Recommended!
You can either go to class and ignore the book or read the book and skip the class and as long as you pay attention and do the study guide you will get in the 90s on exams. Drops lowest midterm. Allows you to miss several questions and still get a hundred. Best econ teacher ever.
Professor Osman's class is mostly based on the book and most of the lectures are simply to clarify and expand on the book. That being said, what he does add to the book is interesting and most of the time the class isn't too dry. His tests are easy, mostly because he builds in a lot of bonus points. Overall, a good teacher and a decent class.
At first he can be intimidating (esp. in OH's-I went once and never went back) but I later realized that he is just trying to scare you into being more prepared and confident. An overall good teacher and I learned a lot but lectures can be kind of long and boring. Coffee will be your best friend!
A very dedicated teacher. Open to discuss about economics with all of his students. Take one of his classes if you have the chance.
Best Econ teacher ever! Show up to class and you will def learn something.
I'm usually an A or B student without trying too hard and I work my butt off for this class and have a C. I read the book and go to class. The professor is nice but none of it really helps with the test. His tests are multiple choice but the answer options are confusing. Grading is based 86% on midterms and final and 14% on 3 homework assignments.
He was a good teacher with a nice accent
Started the quarter awesome, he was very interactive but after the first midterm he pretty much gave up on the class. just stood there killing the class with boredom.Made econ wayyy harder than it needed to be.
This class was a tad ridiculous. It wasn't that difficult, but with 3 midterms, a final, and a term paper... it was pretty annoying. Everything in this class is straight from the book, lecture is useless. He literally uses the slides that the publishers of the book created and reads them off. Read the book and you'll do well
Not a lot of work other than 4 homeworks, which are easy and lowest is dropped. Midterms and tests are really tricky. If I could do it all over again I would not buy the book and just buy the study guide. Apparently those are where the test questions are coming from. Study the slides he posts up right before the midterms.
Most lethargic Honors Prof Ive had, even if he is a good guy. Only Honors aspect of the class is the work, his reasoning for a ridiculous amount of material. Mandatory attendance, yet the entire lecture comes from the Publisher's slides. He doesn't grade anything himself or write the exams. Uninspiring in every way. 4 tests, 4 hws, 10 pg paper
Extremely easy class if you read the book. Don't go to class... its useless. He lightly covers the material but you still need to know the stuff in the book that he doesnt cover. I went to 2 classes and got over 100 on every exam. Lots of bonus Q's on exams. Take his class if possible and just show up to exams and recitation.
very boring; he goes off on random tangents in class; if you read the book and go to recitation you can definately pull off at a minimum a C-; lots of bonus questions on exams.
A demanding but also amazing teacher. He is really into helping you through the class, as well as into discusing any econ issues after class. 3 Exams, 4 HW, 1 term paper, 1 cumulative exam. The Book is mandatory. I recommend getting the study guide if possible. If you are willing to keep up with the work, I advice you to take Dr. Osman's Class.
he's a good guy, and will show geniune interest in any of your questions. his homework is easy and tests are multiple choice, with bonus questions. sometimes he makes me tired, he talks slow, but if you read the stuff and stay awake you'll do fine.
If yuh can't get a B in here dropout. curves everything be a ridiculous amount. he is a rather awesome fella. don't go to class, ever. read the chapters and get some old midterms and you will be on your way to that easy A
Literally speaks with the monotone of the "Clear Eyes For Dry Eyes" man from those 90's commercials. He's knowledgeable, but so boring. Almost nobody is able to stay awake for his class. Offers bonus on exams, but that doesn't make up for his lack of assisting students when asked.
Course is super easy. No reason not to get an A. Lecture can be a bit boring but he gives bonus on all exams and if you study the practice exams in the course text book and read the chapters, you'll be fine.
All you need is 25 of the 30 questions and 50 of the 60 questions correct on the midterms and final, respectively, to get a 100% on them. The four home work assignments are easy and the lowest is dropped. All there is bonus for recitation attendance. Lectures are useless. Buy the study guide, read the book, and do the problems in the study guide.
His lectures are pointless. He uses the powerpoint that came with the book. He spends a lot of time talking about the graphs (easy to figure out on own) and irrelevant info. I never went because I had Econ 200 with him and I knew to just read the book and do problems in the study guide. All exam info is from book, NO SURPRISES. I got a 100.4%
Gives 3 midterms plus a final. You can stop going to lecture after the 1st midterm. Make sure you attend recitation, do most of the reading and the homework on Carmen and you'll have an A without much effort. Also, don't leave lecture early, he loves to engage the people that do.
really just doesnt care. Boring classes and most of all hes just rude. I dont think I learned a thing from him other than to kiss butt.
Super easy A Class. lots of bonus questions. lectures are not important, just read the text and do HW and it's that easy. 3 Midterms, each has 25 multiple choice +5 bonus. in every midterm! Wonderful (: Final 50 multiple + 10 bonus Wow
This class was more challenging than I expected. Dr. Osman is a very knowledgable instructor and is passionate about his field. His tangents about his experience in other countries are interesting. Not an easy A.
If you go to recitation you get extra credit, but you don't need to attend lecture. Lectures are really boring, but he does let you leave early a lot. Just memorize the book for exams and home works. Extra credit available on all exams and the home work is really easy.
Lectures are somewhat interesting, but READ THE BOOK. If you read and understand the chapters, you will be fine. Not bad at all.
Very dry lectures but follows material from book strictly. Exams have built-in bonus and help boost your grade. 3 MTs and 1 final exam (pretty easy). Rec. attendance = extra credit. Easy tests and homework. Do the reading and this is an extremely easy class. I ended up with a 105%. Remember there are NO grade exceptions, bumps, or curve.
Really knowledgable. Tests aren't that hard provided you read the textbook. His recommendation is that you don't take notes from his class, but from the book so you can actually listen to his lectures instead of frantically copying the powerpoints. I agree with this recommendation 100%. Read the book, take notes, pay attention, and study. Not hard.
He is very knowledgeable, I took his Econ Development class and I really enjoyed his personal stories about helping countries. However, class is dry, tests are all based on the textbook so going to class wasn't necessary, around only 9 people show up consistently. I ended up getting an A just by reading the book. A lot of people failed the final.
This guy is the man. He is literally one of the most interesting people I have ever met. Plus he's a great teacher. Very straightforward. You can get up to 2% bonus for going to every class, 2% more for doing a presentation, and on every exam you can miss 5 out of 30 questions and still get a 100% on exam. Take this class.
Oppressively boring in class. Has hearing problems (be ready to speak up and repeat yourself) not particularly helpful or insightful on subject matter (dude loves the textbook and doesn't deviate from its content.) Mandatory participation is clunky. The grading's super easy, however. So if you want that, take it, just don't expect to enjoy it.
Great professor. Very knowledgeable. Relates class concepts to real world events. Easy enough to get a good grade if you read the book and pay attention to most lectures.
This class is really hard to listen and pay attention because its very dry, but he tries to make it interesting. Offers a lot of extra points, so easy enough to get a decent grade.
He is very confusing and unhelpful.
Lectures are very dry, very hard to follow along. He tries to tie real world examples in but he can never get them out how he wants. He's also very rude and insulting. He makes you feel stupid and wrong if you are not an econ major.
I'm taking macro economics with this professor and he is one of the most knowledgeable lectures I've ever had. The material is macroeconomics don't expect it to be some kind of action movie. And to the people who say he is insulting, you either shouldn't be in college or just don't have a sense of humor. Good professor overall!
Terrible professor. Easy class. Lectures are mandatory but useless. He goes off topic all the time. Talks at a low whisper. Has terrible handwriting but writes randm stuff on the board and says it'll be on the midterm but it's not. You're graded on participation but he wants genius answers above and beyond what's in the book. Never taking him again
I never went to his lectures because he just flashes long, wordy slides the whole time. I only went to recitation and my TA was much more clear. Osman's tests are pretty hard. You have to really understand the material- he asks application questions; not just definition-based. Builds in plenty of extra credit though. Read the WHOLE book & get an A.
Never went to lectures because he would literally read straight out of the textbook and yell at us for taking notes. All you have to do is read the textbook thoroughly and try to attend recitations. Tests weren't too bad considering he included a lot of extra credit but you have to know the information really well.
This class is very boring. He just repeats material in the textbook. Also, he requires participation and randomly evaluate it. The class size is also large. Do not take it.
One of the most boring and easiest class in this university. Although he is knowledgeable, he is condescending and boring.
Lectures were a waste, he sped through slides and was angry if you actually took notes. Very rude but gave a ton of bonus questions for exams.
Learn the material, don't memorize it. Osman knows a lot about economics and he tries to encourage students to do their best. A lot of people complain about his negative attitude towards note-taking in lectures, but the slides get posted on Carmen and you really do learn more if you are actively listening. The lectures can get dull; it is econ.
Be prepared to teach yourself. He reads slides made by the txtbk company & gets mad when you take in class notes. Tests are basically identical to study guide questions if you purchase it.. but only helpful if you've already read the entire textbook on your own & taught yourself material. Takes suggestions on how to run class but never uses them
His teaching style is incredibly annoying. He hardly goes over the material you actually have to know and instead just tells anecdotal stories. He can be condescending and acts like every thing he talks about is common knowledge. His instructions for assignments are extremely vague and he even had to push back one assignment twice due to confusion.
I had Dr. Osman in his last semester of teaching at OSU. He was old, confusing, and cocky. I loved him as a person, but as a teacher he was god awful. Just read the textbook and show up for class. You'll do fine.
I really liked Osman before taking this course. The material was boring and had very little to do with economics. He just went over outlines from the book telling you to look things up on your own. No attendance but random quizzes that you can't make up even if you have an excuse. 2 papers that have the strangest and most confusing format EVER!
