He's briliant -no doubt. Class is very challenging but he makes it really interesting. If you like philisophical debate, varied and incredible use of language and massive intilectual stimulation - you'll love it. If not, he may be too far over your head.
Marketing 4510 was a hands-on class. I have had Sandomir for all of his lecture classes which are stunningly brilliant. And he is just as wonderful as a mentor in his marketing classes. Don't be afraid of the work--you will leave his class with REAL skills!
Excellent professor! He knew the materials and always keep the class interesting even if it's a slow and agony day. However, his assign reading is a must if you want to pass the class. I skip a few days of reading and was completely lost in his lectures. But overall, he was the bomb!
His classes were awesome. People sat in just to hear him lecture. He spoke about the texts in a modern light so you find the themes applicable. I almost changed my major to business after his class. This class is more than grade it really makes you assess your outlook on life.
Great teacher in any class i've taken from him. Foundations, Power, and Intro Mktg were all captivating and challenging. In the class on power all you need to do is show up to get an A, as long as you don't miss more than four days(but you won't want to).
He's pretty brilliant, but his foundations class was the most I've ever had to read for a class. The material is intensive to say the least and his tests are extremely challenging. Expect to devote a lot of time into studying the readings and make sure to attend class.
he is a great professor. loved every second of his class. it was difficult but i plan on taking every other class he offers throughout the rest of my college career.
I am an Engineering major looking to fulfill a general credit and broaden my educational experience. This class is trickier than your everyday general class. Sandomir was fantastic though... very captivating lectures and thought provoking. Overall not REALLY all that difficult, my only downfall is I didn't prepare much for the first quiz.
Excellent professor. Learned so much at every lecture. Attending class and doing all the readings is a must. Tests and quizzes are tricky, but he has a fair curve.
If you want to learn then take this class. If you are just taking it for the credit then don't bother, it is way hard and way boring.
Bus 2000 and Mktg 4510. Sandomir is amazing, but not for everyone. He's a genius and his mind--and mouth--move fast. Lectures could go anywhere, but that makes class fun and interesting. He has real-world advertising expertise and can really open your eyes to the fascinating art of advertising. My all-time favorite professor.
Sandomir was interesting to listen to and very passionate but he was too smart to teach beginners. It wasn't simple business strategy and technique, it was analyzing readings of Thoureau and Mill and understanding them metaphorically and analytically. For my literal mind, it was too much.
This class was insightful. Some people say it was diffcult but if you read the assigned stories, attend class everyday, and strive to understand each concept you will do phenomenal.Overall it was a great experience. Sandomir brings a refreshing enthusiasm to the business realm and does a more than adequate job in igniting interest to some dry reads.
He's a great professor, very passionate about his lectures, but the course was very intense.
I am sitting in on the summer 3010 (again) because it is the best of all the marketing classes I have taken at the DESB. Professor Sandomir is the best lecturer I have ever had at the U. His take on everything is original and he inspires me to more serious study. If he taught on the moon I would follow but--no worry--he is afraid of flying.
One of my favorite teachers. Too bad he doesn't teach more marketing classes way better the the waste of space names Ballif. Might take his Mktg 3010 just to learn more. Challenging class but if you can handle it, its one of the best classes at the U. The tests are hard but he gives you enough info that you can get an A.
Simply put, he is one of the best professors I've ever had. His class was very engaging and captivating: I never missed a class session. He brings personal knowledge, experience, and insightful opinions to the table: in other words, he is not a powerpoint/textbook regurgitator. He was very passionate and sincere about what he taught.
Attend the study sessions and take good notes. Listen to what he has to say.
Lectures are great. Sandomir is super funny, but covers bucketloads of information. Tests are difficult and the curve saves you.
Sandomir is brilliant, the best professor I have had. His lectures are extremely insightful and inspiring. Sandomir's class is a lesson in re-creation, not recreation. (Let the Ubermensching begin!)
Great professor, make sure you attend all lectures pre read the material hefore class and take lots of notes. His TA study sessions are very helpful. Tests are challenging consists of primaily T/F questions and short essay questions on the mid term and final.
Loves what he teaches and applies very dry concepts in a interesting/relatable way. Easily the best professor I have had at the U. His tests are tricky but with diligent studying they become quite reasonable. I look forward to taking all classes he has to offer in the future. I cannot say enough about how much I appreciate his class.
He is one of the best teachers I have ever had. Stay on top of the readings and attend the lectures and do well in the class.
This was my fifth class with Professor Sandomir. Nobody can create an exciting mix of business, philosophy and mathematics like Sandomir. Anyone who has had a class from him will tell you that he is as close to the idea of absolute excellence as can be found. My husband attended some lectures with me and called Sandomir the Hitchens of business.
If you don't read the text book AND go to class, you will not pass. Prof. S is very passionate and encourages questions and discussion. His lectures are pretty engaging, however the tests are not as straight forward as the material seems to be. Most quizzes are T/F and are meant to trick you a little. But with study comes success.
He is like a lot of great minds half genius half insane. Take everything he says with a grain of salt or you will be offended no matter who you are.
Professor Sandomir is a great professor. He really gets into his lectures and captures your attention. If any other professor had taught this material, I probably would have been zoning out, but Sandomir keeps you interested for the entire class. If you pay close attention, take good notes, and study, you should do well in the class.
One of the University's sexiest professor's on campus! Not only is he dedicated to his classes, he is also deeply invested in the students growth. He challenges you to look beyond the text and has great experiences to back up his claims. His is a most know professor if you want to excel in the field of business.
Awesome teacher! He makes the class time fly by! Such an interesting guy
The Class is interesting it is almost 100% based on readings his interpretations of them. Don't expect to learn anything useful about business in this class but review the study guides and go to the TA's review sessions and its pretty easy. Attendance is not mandatory but he gives tips and assignments in class only nothing in syllabus
I have sat in on Professor Sandomir's Foundations class several times. It's hard to tell he had heart problems because his lectures are still so brilliant. Still, I am glad he is regaining his health because to lose him would be like losing a national treasure. You will really likes his classes. Even more, you will really like him.
One of my favorites. Very passionate about what he teaches, and a very interesting way to approach business. Class was not biased (politically, religiously.. etc), which I loved.
Awesome prof. Very knowledgeable . Tests are hard, but not impossible. I would recommend recording his lectures.
Very tough class. Study hard... You have to more efforts in this course to even get B plus or A minus. He uses big words, but very knowledgable and informative!!Enjoy the class.
tough class, attend class and read the chapters. awesome teacher my favorite so far
Make sure you come to class and take intense notes and you will be set!
Tests were really hard and almost impossible to study for, as they were mostly strategy based. He lectures non-stop every single class period. I HIGHLY recommend recording his lectures - there is too much information discussed not to. Definitely not a typical 3000 level course.
I highly recommend professor Sandomir. He is an extremely intelligent professor who gives very interesting and worthwhile lectures. He is easy to talk to and willing to help when you do not understand the material. Take a class from this professor! You won't regret it.
Brilliant professor and very passionate about the topic! Class is tough to keep up with and the tests are really difficult but it is the best class I have had at college! His TA with the hat is super helpful for preparing for the exams and really hot!
Professor Sandomir is an excellent professor. His lectures are really fine and you always know he is pakcing in a lot of information with terrific insights.
Professor Sandomir is great, his test and quizzes are extremely difficult but study hard, go to every class, read every story, and you'll pass. Not you're typical level 1 class, more like 3 or 4. I would take that class toward the end of completing my pre-business classes.
Fabulous class. Professor Sandomir is, I think, one the foremost authorities on the subject of power and commerce. His lectures are off the map stupendous. I will sit in on this class again and again.
Great great great class. Incredibly enticing lectures with broad and interesting subject matter. You can tell prof absolutely loves teaching which is what makes the class so great. As for it being hard, if you actually do the readings (they aren't that long) the class is a breeze. I gave it a 4 on easiness simply because in a 5 I doubt you'd read.
I have had Professor Sandomir for two other classes. His lectures are so incredibly good--exactly what you would expect from a professor at a top notch school. He justifies my choice of the U. Just a fabulous profesoor
This was the third class I took with Sandomir. A lot more hands on and we worked with a real client with a real budget--almost $300,000. Fabulous class. Fabulous professor--knows the subject from every angle.
Sandomir is very passionate about what he's teaching. If you really want to learn business then take this guy! You're getting what you pay for and that's a good education. Basically all you have to do is show up, take good notes, do the readings go to the reviews and you should get an A. Coming to class is not mandatory but he throws in pop quizzes
Very well organized. Slides on Canvas. Gives good lectures and test reviews. You DO have to read the book.
In my four years at the U, I have never heard a more spectacular lecturer. Every time I attended this class, I left changed in a serious way. I cannot say enough for this professor's skills.
I got the chance to take 1050 and 2000 with prof. What really needs to be said? 2000 should be mandatory. Lectures are absolutely incredible, and the topic should be on everyones mind moving forward into the business school. One heck of a guy and an absolutely excellent purveyor of knowledge. Take every class you can, but be prepared to work hard.
I have taken most of Professor Sandomir's classes and they are all excellent. As everyone here says, his lectures are really amazing--brilliant but kind of inspiring, too. I think I did better in 4020 because he mad us learn straategy. There is so much of it but listen carefully and study the slides! I finally go it and it has helped so much.
Good class, kind of hard but he curves well
Professor Sandomir is BRILLIANT. Took this my first semester at the U, and loved him. He can get off on tangents and talks fast and can be difficult to understand at times, but his lectures were phenomenal. His tests are pretty difficult, but his curve is very fair. As long as you go to class and do the readings, you shouldn't struggle.
Unclear in lectures and confusing. tests are terribly hard
I think I have taken every class taught by Professor Sandomir. He is an incredible lecturer--you will never be bored. His exams are pretty tough, but they really to test you on the material he teaches. His curves are fair. You would really be missing something special if you didn't hear at least one of his lectures.
Sandomir is amazing. His lectures are not boring; attendance is mandatory; tests/quizzes are super difficult unless you study your brains out. I thought he would be very hard, but it is the material that can be confusing. Attend reviews and take A LOT of notes.
Make sure you (1) attend the reviews, (2) complete the study guide, and (3) do the readings. This class is a lot of work. Lectures are intense. Two quizzes and two exams make up final grade. Hardest multiple choice test I've seen so far! But Sandomir is a brilliant guy, expert at the subject, generally helpful. WILL offend some of his students.
Incredible class. Enticing lectures and makes you think differently about life. 2 quizzes and 2 tests grading wise, and they are tough. GO TO CLASS, DO THE READINGS. My section made a global google doc for studying for each test and quiz, and it helped tremendously. Sandomir is hands down the best professor I've ever had.
GOOD CLASS, just for more Units
This man is a genius. Take every class you can from him.
study all powerpoint slides and don't miss lectures. a lot of strategy work but totally fascinating lectures and a way of seeing the subject intellectually.
Pay attention in class. My biggest advice is to record his lectures and listen to them again before tests. I never touched the book and walked out with an A with this method. Very interesting man to talk to after class as well.
Smartest man that offers pre-business classes. I left nearly every lecture thinking about business in a completely different way. Class is rich and exams are very challenging. Pay attention, do your readings, and go to all the reviews and you'll come out with a decent grade. He curves generously.
He writes his tests on mostly his lectures, which are tend to long, confusing, and ambiguous. He expects you to understand his point of view and that you will love all the readings just as much as he does. You are usually assigned 30 pages every class, but more importantly is taking notes on "his" perspective of readings.
I think I have taken every one of Professor Sandomir's classes. His lectures are remarkable in so many ways--he can begin with some strategic issue, move to Tomas Aquinas and Thorsten Veblen, then some 20th century composer, and on to something about new product policy. Amazing. The exams stretch you, but he grades fairly. Totally worth it.
Alan Sandomir is the best professor I've ever had in my life. If you are in school to just pass by and get easy A's, don't bother coming to his class. If you are in school to learn to be the best you can be and be inspired by an insightful and brilliant man, DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS FRON ANYONE ELSE BUT HIM. Take notes of the lectures!!!
Incredible class. Teacher is full of charisma and seeks to inspire students. Take lots of notes on lectures as readings are not necessary. Scored highest on final and never opened book.
Power Basics is the most intellectual business class ever. Professor Sandomir is beyond brilliant. We feel like we're taking a class at Oxford or some school like that. Sandomir ties marketing and finance to big, crazy ideas about power in business and can pull facts and numbers and quotes from every thinker. But don't miss more than 4 classes!
Bus Foundations wasn't a class I thought it would be. It's more about philosophy and what people think about business. I'd recommend recording lectures and taking very detailed and thorough notes. Make sure you know the material inside and out for the tests. Don't do the readings - he talks about them in detail during lectures, but know the basics
Sandomir may be the best lecturer in the entire state. You'll never be bored in his class. He's thought-provoking, and although he doesn't intend to offend anyone, he's not afraid to teach what he knows. Even though this class is easy (just attendance), it's worth so much more than an easy A. I would take it again and again.
Professor Sandomir expects a lot, but he gives you a thousand times more. I have never heard lectures that motivated me like his. He lectures to the top of the class.... If you are not interested in excellence, then you should find a different professor.
I don't understand why this is a 1050 class, feels more like a 3000+ class. Also, it felt more like a philosophy class rather than a foundation class. We briefly covered the different branches of business and focused mainly on difficult readings from philosophers. Also, 30 minutes is not near enough time to take a quiz that has 50+ questions.
Sandomir is all about strategytáctics which he teaches like chess moves. He knows this stuff inside out. His lectures will blow you away. He is just as off the wall mind bending in Foundations. If you really want to know the subject, Sandomir is your guy. Really amazing!
Great teacher, long lectures and hard hard test. You have to keep on reading and be prepared to study hard for exams. Prof only weakness is the exams because he doesn't lecture the same way he gives exams. Best part is you only have exams and no papers! Don't let that fool you, record his lectures, sit up front, participate, ask questions and study
I have had Sandomir for other classes, mostly because I love his lectures. Exams can be challenging but hey, this is college! He is incredibly thorough in explaining complex issues. If there were any classes left that I could take from him I would.
No assignments, only tests and quizzes No fixed schedule, attendance not mandatory but essential Textbooks essential
This class is a cross between philosophy and business ethics. Mind blowing lectures and mind opening storiesexamples. Sandomir is a brilliant dude but doesn't quite understand straightforward test questions. His tests leave something to be desired but you are probably required to take the class. Do the readings and try to know the material.
Sandomir knows his stuff. Can tell he has real world experience. he is difficult to follow. You need to pay attention to every word he says because he talks fast and uses a wide vocabulary. Test question can be confusing.
Expect to spend every single day of the week working on your presentation towards the end of the semester. Sandomir changes ideas all the time. Know how to use photoshop and get ready to present to a bunch of judges. Lots of meetings outside of class about once a week. *Sandomir is an amazing lecturer and a great person. Very hard class though
One of the best professors at the University. Attend the lectures and keep detailed notes and you will do well on his tests. They are tough but he gives a generous curve. Makes sure to keep up with the assigned readings! Fantastic class overall.
Sandomir is a passionate, captivating, and intelligent lecturer. He LOVES teaching this class, which makes it enjoyable. No turn-in homework, just loads of reading from the book. If you don't read, you're toast. Tests are tricky, with answers feeling like they could go either way. The class is basically reading comprehension and memorization.
Sandomir uses his own textbook which is just excerpts of philosophers. Class attendance (though not mandatory) is essential to passing. Get ready to take notes and a voice recorder. He can get confusing. He's pretty pompous, arrogant, and not very helpfulbut he knows the material and teaches it well. Exams are hard but curve is pretty generous.
Sandomir gives excellent lectures and really knows the material since he helped create the textbook. He doesn't grade attendance, but does notice who attends lectures and who doesn't. He doesn't give a syllabus so attendance is essential for knowing when quizzes and tests are given. Many test questions are also based on material covered in class.
Amazing teacher, the best the U of U has to offer in terms of teaching and helping you intellectually grow. I would highly recommend this teacher as he pushes you to your limit but at the end you are satisfied with your self. NO STUDY, NO PASS LOOKING FOR AN EASY A THIS IS NOT THE CLASS.
Professor Sandomir is hard-core to say the least. His lectures are fantastic. You will never get bored if you are actually interested in business. I found the material very difficult. There is a lot of reading and his tests are super hard. However, he grades the 2 quizzes and 2 tests on a curve so you really only have to be better than your peers.
Alan was great at making a not so entertaining subject somewhat entertaining. I personally enjoyed the lectures. The literature is difficult, if you don't read the chapters before class, you will be lost. He likes people who participate, be prepared to be called on if you sit in the front. I cannot stress enough, READ THE BOOK.
He is a really amazing lecturer. He made a boring topic super exciting. Make sure that you go to class since that is where he tells you what to read, and when the quizzes and tests are. The only problem I had was that he was trying to push his vegetarianism onto the class. He would bring it up whenever he could. Other than that though he is amazing
Its a lot to take in during one semester, but Sandomir does a great job at keeping your attention and making it interesting.
Amazing professor, he is very intresting and teaches alot and talking class with him is a brain opener and makes you think in new ways and very differently and when your done with his class you notice that you are much wiser and ready for whats coming your way !
A really good professor. He knows what he's talking about and sometimes I felt inspired, even though we were just talking about business. If you don't take the class seriously, it's hard, but if you're interested in business (and also philosophy) you'll love it.
This man is the coolest. He seriously is the most intelligent person. He plays this act like his class is going to be the hardest thing ever, but if you do the readings and try and learn a little background in economics you should be great. He co-wrote the textbook, so he knows his stuff.
Probably the most interesting and sophisticated lectures I have ever heard. He has a way of linking everything from Freud and Nietzsche to balance sheets and market development strategies...a wild ride but that's what I was hoping for. He gives shape to some pretty unwieldy subjects, but I can't say enough about the incredible quality of lectures.
He is a good professor with awesome lectures. It is very hard to keep up with his reading assignments though and his tests are very hard, however, he does curve them. Just don't skip class. And if you're not a morning person don't take the 7:30 class, even if its the only one open.
Sandomir is a great professor. He is probably the most well-read and intelligent man I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. Readings are mandatory (don't skip them!) and come to class (EVERYDAY) prepared to listen & participate if you can. Tests are hard but if you really pay attention in class and get help when you need it, you will do fine!
I would not suggest taking this class at 7:30 am. He is a great professor, knows what he is talking about. He is very specific in what he looks for in essays. DO THE READINGS and participate if you actually want to pass and learn something from the class. Don't be afraid to speak up in class, participation is part of your grade.
He is a great lecturer. Use the study guided he provides and you should be okay for the tests. It is best to do all the readings before class so the topics he covers in lecture will make more sense. Entertaining.
His class is him lecturing the whole time. You are assigned reading for each class and you are required to do some participation in class. However, I found that doing the readings was not very necessary. He explains how he wants you to interpret the text in class. Just understand his study guides and you will do great on the tests.
Alan Sandomir is the kind of teacher that you read about at great universities in ages past. I'm a graduating senior & looking back on my college experience, Alan Sandomir stands as the most intelligent, articulate, & thought-provoking professor I've had the pleasure to learn from. Challenging class, but among the most valuable you'll ever take.
He is a great and entertaining lecturer. He gives comprehensive study guides for his quizes and exams. Two quizes. Two exams. If you do the readings and attend class you should have no problem doing well.
Very hard class. Professor Sandomir is very well educated and teaches to prove how educated he is. Very nice man that will help you in any way possible. Lots of reading. Tests are very difficult. Whole grade based off of 2 quizes, a midterm and a exam. But does use a curve.
I took BUS1051 from Prof. Sandomir, and was not a fan because of the reading load. I took this class from him due to lack of alternatives, and I am glad I did. His lectures were super interesting; I had no problem paying attention even though class was at 7:30am. Less reading, and more conceptual information that you can follow easily. Loved it.
One of the most thought-provoking classes I have taken in my college career. He talks extremely fast, so I recommend recording every lecture. The tests are difficult but if you study hard and attend each class you will be fine. This class changed my life. Highly recommend! Will take as many classes from Sandomir as I can.
Sandomir, is truly a remarkable speaker, very wide ranged, intuitive, and pragmatic lectures that you can apply to your daily lives if you choose to. Lectures are great, if you have a great night sleep. Reading is easy, if you enjoy them. Tests are hard, if you didn't study.
this classmy most neglected and still got out with a passinggrade. Format 3 tests 1 being the final & non cumulative. Tests formatted to where you need to know examples of definitions. example: he'll give you a question and you need to identify what type of marketing this is. smart informative professor. read & evaluate the chapters.
Without a doubt, the best professor I had in any department. I learned more in his 3010 than in any other business class I took. And nobody gives more interesting lectures than Dr. Sandomir. Even though I graduated this month, I will probably return to sit in on his Power Basics class.
Brilliant professor with tons of real world marketing experience. His tests are really tough and if you aren't there for the lectures you probably won't do well. You'll have to work for it, but an A is very attainable if you put in a couple extra hours of study for the exams.
I wasn't a fan of this class at first. The first half is mostly history/philosophy readings that relate to business. I'm not a fan of history or philosophy so it was tough for me to get through them. Grades are based on only a few quizzes, midterm and exam. They are very tough so study hard and know the details of the readings.
Sandomir is easily one of the best professors at the U. His lectures are extremely interesting and reflect what will be on the tests. Read the assigned chapters before class, it enhances his lectures tremendously. My only complaint is I wish he had a clearer grading criteria at the end of the course.
It's imperative that you show up for the lectures, at the beginning of the year he stresses reading the book but if you go to the lectures you won't need to. Lectures are generally good, but he can be overly pedantic at times. Not that difficult, his grading is really strange but he does grade at a curve. Study for the test and you'll get an A.
Fantastic professor, very engaging and, even though it is very lecture-heavy, he is very interesting to listen to. BUS1050 requires an $80 book that he helped co-write, which you read multiple readings from every day. It's also mostly a philosophically-driven class, especially for Business. Highly recommend Sandomir in general, very interesting
Want to learn what plato or socrates thought of marketing? Look no further. Personally i thought his lectures were far too removed from marketing and it felt more like a philosophy course. I got about 60% on each test (3 of them) and got a B+. I would take it from another professor who may focus on up-to-date marketing principles and concepts.
3010 was one of the most valuable classes I took last year. Lots of strategy and detal but well worth it. Sandomirs lectures are gems.
As an fall semester freshman, taking this class has been a very good transition from high school level reading to understanding how much it takes in college. Although there is a lot of reading, i highly recommend because of his interesting lectures.
Sandomir is an amazing teacher and it's great to listen to him lecture.
I loved his teaching so much, I plan to take a course of his in the future. There is a lot of reading, but I found it both interesting and applicable (to more than just business). And, although there are mostly lectures, I found them extremely intriguing and inspirational. His teaching always made it worthwhile to come to class.
Professor Sandomir is intelligent and cares about the subject. Unfortunately, his lectures were all over the place. He also got very political in many of his lectures, despite promising that he wouldn't which frequently frustrated me. There are two very difficult tests and two long group papers. Fortunately, he graded the tests on a curve.
I hated this class. Sandomir knows that he is a genius and isn't afraid to make sure that everyone knows it. He goes out of his way to use the biggest, most complicated vocabulary possible not only in his lectures but also in his tests and quizzes. The lectures are quite honestly a huge bore and I really didn't even learn anything.
Professor Sandomir's lectures are brilliant. I felt inspired after each lecture and it helped me to do pretty well. He is great at bringing marketing and finance together with politics and economics. Still, a word of warning. He has no patience for student laziness. I discovered that my first two weeks!
I have had the privilege of having Sandomir in two different classes, now. His teaching style is fast-paced, but very in-depth, so you end up learning A TON. He implements history, literature, and philosophy into all of his lectures and captivates his students. His classes are tough, but very rewarding in knowledge.
Seriously the most inspirational guy ive ever met. If you have the chance do take his class do it quick before he retires. the class was mostly lecture with a few discussion but he is not boring to listen to. makes you wanna do business for the greater good of people. so intelligent. only graded on 2 group papers, midterm, and a final.
Dude is cool
Sandomir is a great professor! He is extremely passionate in his lectures and I would definitely take a class from him again. That being said, if you struggle getting up and going to class then BUS2000 is not for you. You are graded completely on attendance. There's also some public speaking involved.
Prof Sandomir was very enjoyable. The lectures were very well done, and I always left super inspired. The reading load is tough, basically read the whole text book , which was written by him. Does express political views, and if you don't agree, I could see why it would irritate someone. 2 Exams, 2 quizzes, and some pop quizzes, graded on a curve.
This class was hard to follow at times. The focus was on business philosophy, I think. The lectures were mostly rehash of the reading without adding very much depth, but the lectures are essential to being successful in the class. He occasionally offers extra credit for those who are on-time to class and can answer a few questions on the reading.
You have three tests and one marketing audit to do. He gives you almost all semester to work on the audit so don't wait until last minute! He brings real world examples into the mix and is so passionate about what he does. He made me consider marketing as a major
Professors Sandomir is obviously an expert in his field, but I often felt that his teaching style (long, emphatic lecture) did not enhance my mastery of the subject matter. Because I had so few opportunities to participate or discuss the topics covered, I often got distracted. My learning would've been enhanced by more interaction.
Professor Sandomir was by far my favorite professor in my four years. His lectures were brilliant and motivating. He spent an hour with me explaining marginal analysis and break even and helped me through the final. I never really thought of marketing and finance as intellectual subjects for "combat" as he said. I loved his teaching style.
I took BUS 2000 at the same time I took MKTG 3000. This class really illuminated the other. Professor Sandomir's lectures are famous across campus. Power Basics is probably the must famous lecture series at the U. I will only say this: utterly amazing! Take this class from Sandomir. It's the one class you'll never forget!
It's the end of the semester and still don't know my grade - he does not put in grades. Class is graded by 2 quizzes and 2 exams - both extremely difficult. Tests are around 100 questions. His lectures are horrible, I hardly know what he's talking about. Not a good teacher for an entry level class. Would not take him ever again!!
Prof. Sandomir puts a lot of heart into what he teaches, and expects his students to care a lot as well. Don't skip class, don't leave early (gives pop quizzes at end of lecture occasionally,) complete all assigned readings at least once, participate in class discussions, and this will be one of the most enjoyable and rewarding classes you'll take.
Sandomir is an incredibly bright professor. However, he is all over the place. The audit project is worth almost 25% of your grade, and he only spoke about it ONCE for 3 minutes. His tests cover material he doesn't cover in class AND is also not in the book. His tests are tricky, but he curves hard. Super nice guy, the class was just annoying.
Alan Sandomir is a quality professor. His class is heavily lecture based. His lectures are occasionally dull, but often thought-provoking in that they expanded my vocabulary and made me think about the world in different ways. That being said, he often gets overly political and is very impersonal (he didn't know my name after an entire semester).
I took 1050 from Sandomir last year. Fact--he is the most brilliant and engaging lecturer you will find. If you are a serious student you will never view finance, marketing, and accounting the same way again. Ask students who are mature who spins their heads around! It is Sandomir. He won't be your friend, but he'll change you for the better.
Does not give homework, only assigns chapters to read. Show up to lectures as he tests heavily on lecture slides and videos. Does not offer extra credit. Mandatory group audit project. Curves exam grades. Show up to class, study the lectures, take notes, complete the audit and you will pass.
If you don't attend class you won't pass. Most of what is on the tests comes from lecture. Textbook is used but the tests are filled with logic/decision making questions that you would only be comfortable with if you come to class. Also offers marketing audit for credit. His lectures are amazing and really make you think. I really liked the class.
Professor Sandomir is brilliant! His lectures aren't always the most engaging, and he can end up going on unrelated tangents sometimes, but Professor Sandomir will get you to think critically about business, and provide interesting perspectives! I would recommend taking any class that you can from Sandomir, even if you aren't a business major.
Sandomir is the best professor of my four years. His lectures are off the wall brilliant and very energetic. He has an amazing way of piecing together technical material with everything from philosophy to psychology. I am simply blown away by the intellect and it inspires me. Beware. There is a project, but it very applicable. Take this class!
Dr Sandomir is strategy intensive and requires a very complete understanding of tactical responses to everything! Lectures are super intense but he's the best lecturer I've ever heard so it's all pretty incredible. There is one huge project. I love this guy because he's brilliant but knows how to bring us into his world. He's a great role model.
Wow. This class had perhaps some of the most inspirational, polarizing and mind-stretching lectures ever given. The ideas in this class will challenge you, change you and make you want to be better. All given by a superb professor that is both intense and eloquent. Grades are attendance based, no tests. Verrry recommended!
Sandomir is a very intelligent individual, but his teaching really depends on the individual. He unnecessarily uses difficult vocabulary which makes lectures difficult to comprehend, and while his lectures were decent he is very dismissive to students with views other than his.
Pretty much your entire grade depends on three exams and an audit project. I thought the tests were really hard but Alan curves a lot. Many of the test questions came from his lectures so if you wanna do well on the tests you better go to class.
Really knowledgeable professor. The type of teacher you want if you are really interested in the subject matter. Was not an easy A but easy enough to pass. I took his morning class and was easily able to stay awake because he was very engaging.
For internationals , it is hard
Favorite professor of all time. Incredibly knowledgeable, and it shows in his lectures. His orating skills are incredible and keep the class engaged the whole time. Probably the most respected professor at the U.
One of my favorites. Great lecturer, interesting, passionate, easy to work with, and well educated. Take good notes in class and on readings! Tests/quizzes are multiple choice, T/F, essay, but you'll need to understand the concepts well in order to get a good grade on them. I had 2 quizzes and 2 tests.
Dr Sandomir is the professor I will remember 20 years from now. He converted me into becoming a business intellectual dedicated to marketing and finance. I recorded all but his first two lectures and they blow away everyone who hears them. Take the class seriously and ut will make you a better person and much much smarter.
Professor Sandomir is an excellent lecturer, the most engaging I have had. I really like his style of teaching. Read the text and attend lectures and youll do well.
Fantastic lecturer! Professor Sandomir is by far the most engaging professor Ive ever had! I couldnt reccomend taking his class more!
Such an amazing professor, he provided a clear understanding of the materials during his lectures. If you do not go to lecture you will fail miserably. Take copious amounts of notes and do your readings before class and you will be fine. The readings usually take about an hour to read through and understand. Will take another class from him.
Dr Sandomir is not like any biz professor you will ever have. He is knowledgeable beyond all others and is the not quite human who speaks in perfect sentences só big with inspiring ideas that marketing and finance sound like physics and astronomy. So amazing! He will change you for the better but dont fall behind.. that will kill your grade.
Alan is a great guy. He knows his stuff and has a lot of experience in the field. Lectures are long but he keeps things interesting. Tests are long with a lot of reading. The book isn't necessary if you study the heck outta the power points and take good notes. I would take the honors version or a diff prof if you can cuz the group project STINKS.
Definitely read the assignments and make notes. This semester he allowed for the midterm and final to be taken home however it took me and after talking to a few other students afterwards an avg of 5-7 hours to do because you'll really need to understand the reading and lectures. Take good notes and reference your notes to your readings. He's great
Lectures are mandatory for this class. The material is very complex and hard to understand at times. Lectures move very quickly if you blink you might miss something. Grades are based on 2 exams and 2 quizzes. There is no opportunity for tutoring or help in this class. It is extremely challenging. He does curve grades, but it is still hard.
I don't mind work but way too much work than necessary. Tests felt like a 3000+ level class. Lectures are too fast paced and over detailed that you should just record the lectures than take notes. Very easy to miss lots of important stuff he says in his lectures. This class counts as a GenEd but don't take it if it's just for GenEd.
This class is challenging but Dr Sandomir is a brilliant and inspiring lecturer. Be serious and youll do well. He gives you all the tools. His reputation as the best lecturer at the university is totally deserved and he will help you if you ask for it. He spent an a lot of time with me explaining fed banking policy. Take the class seriously.
The lectures consisted of the professor attempt at "Socratic teaching" but came off as self aggrandizing at best. This class blends philosophy, religious arguments, pro-capitalism and Americana in a way that boggles the mind. No exam/quiz dates were posted on syllabus as a way to encourage 'class attendance'. He uses vocab to intimidate freshman.
He knows what he is talking about, and can explain material wonderfully. He is very understanding. My group did a project without me and he gave me a 1 month extension to do it on my own. If you are: honest with him, go to his class, take good notes, ask questions you will pass.
He is a very recognized professor in the business school. However, he is very closed minded and the class centers around his capitalist and conservative ideals. If you disagree, he doesn't welcome your ideas. It felt as though the students in the class were trying so hard to please him and his ideas instead of developing their own.
This class will open your mind to marketing, finance, and accounting, and help you to know the meaning of capitalism and socialism too. Professor Sandomir is an exciting and super amazing lecturer, fair and helpful outside of class. You wont be bored!
Professor Sandomir is by far the bets professor I have had during my college experience. He is one of the few professors at the U that I genuinely look forward to hearing his lectures. He also is rare in the sense of that he has a very capitalistic mindset which is a beautiful thing in a world where that is lacking, however he respects all opinoins
The most serious teacher I have ever had. If you are passionate about the foundations of business, this is the teacher for you. If you aren't, I would not recommend. Grade for whole class based off 4 quizzes/tests. He is not afraid to call out students in class that he thinks did not read the textbook, and seems to find a slight joy in it.
Sandomir is one of the authors of the textbook used in this class, therefore this is his "language." He is a pro at the content of this class, however due to that he is unable to teach it in a way that students who come into this class with no prior knowledge understand the material, he's unable to "dumb it down" meaning make it easy to understand.
Dr. Sandomir is the quintessence of the academic challenger I had hoped I could experience in a university setting. I believe that Alan is absolutely committed to both the Socratic method of pedagogy and is an unyielding heterodoxical educator (spelling?). Although his class offerings are outside of my major, Ill take all his classes I can afford
Sandomir is really smart and is expert at making marketing, finance, and accounting understandable. He is the best lecturer Ive ever had. You will have to work to get a good grade, but hes really amazing and youll like the class if you are a serious student.
Sandomir is one of those professors who thinks he is far smarter than he actually is. He has a firm grasp on his own material, but enjoys lecturing students on his close minded political opinions and degrading students with different ideals. He is disorganized and will change quiz/test schedules the day of. My advice, take a different professor.
This is a very good class. Sandomir is very knowledgeable and flexible. He changed the date of a quiz for us because we were not prepared--very nice! There is a lot of complexity, but Sandomir is very helpful outside of class, too. Occasional political and economic issues, but he is open-minded about these things. Great lectures!
Alan Sandomir is a great lecturer, but the class was not great. Attendance wasn't mandatory, but a lot of people weren't coming, so he started taking roll. He expects you to know a lot about the readings, so make sure you pay attention in class and do the readings beforehand. It wasn't the hardest class, but he makes it harder than it needs to be.
A solid class. Interesting introduction to the business disciplines. The readings can be difficult, but Sandomir is expert at getting you through them.
I took Prof Sandomir for Bus 1050 and thought it was great, taking marketing 3010 was a different experience. Required lots reading, the tests were extremely difficult and the study guide he hands out were not very helpful. Classes are werer interesting but then he would ruin it with his political views and get side tracked. Take from someone else
The lectures expand way beyond text but in very practical ways. Sandomir literally tells you what to study for three quizzes and he provides helpful study guides for three exams. Only text reading and no outside assignments. If you are lazy, take someone else.
I really loved 1050! Sandomir introduced accounting, finance, marketing, and management in amazing lectures that tied classical readings to business concepts. He made balance sheets and income statements understandable. The exams and quizzes are tough, but fair. His book covers 2500 years of readings from Confucious and Sun Tzu and Milton Friedman
Sandomir is just the most brilliant lecturing professor I have ever experienced. He is in complete command of the subject and other subjects too. I was inspired every class day. He is also much needed conservative counterpoint in the biz school where most students are liberals. Some resent him for destroying their positions so completely.
Professor Sandomir is very knowledgable about marketing. He gives lots of examples which helps to understand the concepts. He is opinionated about certain things, so sometimes you have to tune him out. There are 4 quizzes and 3 midterms, 1 of them is a take-home midterm. Show up on time and get extra credit 3 or 4 times throughout the semester.
Excellent class and superb professor. Sandomir is very good at mixing the analytical and philosophical in financial, economic, and literary areas. Serious and engaging lectures. Learned a ton.
Excellent professor! This class can be truly unique. If you apply yourself alongside Sandomir's guidance and lectures, you will gain a new perspective on business and the world around you. He is very traditional with required readings each class. Test and quiz heavy. If you love to learn, he is your professor to take for Bus 1050!!! Very fair!
Sandomirs lectures are outrageously brilliant.. Id go anywhere to hear this guy. You will want to research lots of marketing and finance topics after hearing him. Hes serious about education so dont take 1050 from him if youre not serious. Exams and quizzes are fair, but you need to be at all lectures and carefully read a load of material.
Sandomir is very competent and has an unbelievable mind. He covers an enormous amount of material so you have to keep up. He's probably the best lecturer you will ever hear, but you must listen super carefully. He's got a tough, traditional outside, but he's a pretty soft romantic on the inside.
Professor Sandomir's lectures and personality can come off extremely grating and unnecessarily fast-paced. From his class though, you learn an immense amount if you're willing to put in the work.
Sandomir has a big rep and it shows. His lectures cover the subject amazingly well but he brings this wealth of huge intellect and broad education to everything. We sit there stunned pretty often. Three exams, all pretty challenging and three quizzes, not toolbar. Totally worth your time.
Sandomir is one of the best professors at the U. Maybe the best really. Not just blow your mind lectures, but a first rate mind that's totally original. Some challenging exams, but worth the study to hang out with the guy. Incredible jazz musician too, we saw him last weekend at a local spot. Take any class he teaches.
An excellent class but challenging. Sandomir is a fabulous lecturer, the best I have heard at the U, but he is a no nonsense guy. He provides lots of preparation and is good about office hours, but you have to do the work. He doesnt have a lot of patience for losers. But he is so good at what he does, he is worth the work.
Enormous amount of work, but if you really want the career, Sandomir is the guy. Super smart and way educated.. The project is nerve-wracking and presenting it to professionals is sooo hard! But it's the only way to learn the material. Grading is based whether plan can go to market immediately or not. Great class. Great professor.
His lectures don't line up with the textbook so be prepared for the tests to be an absolute mess. Ask for a definition? Be ready to not know if he wants his definition or the textbooks. Withdrawing from this class was the best decision I ever made. Especially since he randomly will curve stuff so sometimes your 50% becomes an A & sometimes not
If you can take this class from anyone else, do it. Sandomir's lectures are long and confusing, and the readings are hard to understand. His grading technique is super confusing- I even didn't know what my grade was until I checked my transcript. Attendance isn't mandatory, but he tells you when quizzes, test and even the final is in class.
Definitely not a good professor, one of the worst I've had at the university
not good at teaching. his attendance policy for an online class is unrealistic. Would not recommend him to anyone.
Heavy Grader , not very instructive, does not give any chance. also VERY unclear.
Horrid teacher, Gives unclear instructions with no second chances.
What an abysmal teacher!!! lectures have absolutely nothing to do with tests, the textbook is a must buy and is super expensive, you will never use it again, and if you ever ask for help he will actually make fun of you.
Not good at making things clear to myself and the entire class. Asked repeatedly and he does not understand what is wrong with the teaching. Learn for yourself deal and attending classes do not help.
He will overwhelm you with his lectures. He crams too much info into lectures, talks too fast , and uses complicated vocabulary. It's very easy to get lost but he expects you to keep up. He does write some notes on the board but it's very messy. Just record him. Textbook is expensive and I could easily look up all the readings in it online.
Great class. Excellent professor.
I took Professor Sandomir's Business 1050 course completely online and I learned a lot from this class! Professor Sandomir is highly knowledgable on all the required readings. Even though the readings can be tedious, if you pay attention in his lectures and take thorough notes on the readings key points, you will get an A!
This is a very practical class but filled with amazing strategy and tactic marketing g plays. Dr. Sandomir knows this stuff like a chess This is an excellent class. Dr Sandonir emphasizes strategy and tactics. His lectures are superb. Exams are on the difficult side but studywill get you through it.i
The problem with this class is the material is old, not relevant to 2020. He rambles for 2 hours straight, very hard to follow. The textbook is essentially useless for his exams, because he writes his own exam questions, they only make sense to him. You can study everything but won't get his questions. Very hard to follow. He is nice, easy A.
What an amazing professor! There is a fair amount of reading, but I personally loved the readings, they are very interesting to read and discuss with professor Sandomir. Great content provided in a meaningful way.
Superb professor with tons of experience and enthusiasm. Emphasis on strategy. He brings in lots of economics and goes way beyond the text. Tough exams but fair grading. On top of everything. Do the reading and bring good questions to class. Extremely engaging speaker.
Sandomir is the one of the most impressive lecturers at the university of utah. He has tons of real world experience but knows all the academic studies and issues too. Its amazing to hear a guy who speaks in perfect sentences but is super interesting and finds ways to work every subject you can think of in to lectures about markets and economics.
Sandomir is knowledgeable, but his 3000 class is a mess. The textbook is great, and his lectures are interesting, but there is a disconnect between the content in the book and the test. He tests you on application, not concepts, and uses the 'best answer' technique. Basically, there is no real way to study. Plus, he doesn't use Canvas grades.
Without a doubt the best lecturing professor ever. The lectures are very deep and engaging, but they are also applicable and full of strategic thinking. Exams are tough but fair and he grades on a curve.
Sandomir is an excellent speaker. In every other aspect of being a professor, he's awful. He shoves participation to online autograded sites, grades vaguely, offers no study resources or help aside from "read more", offers no guidelines for the project, and expects every student to dedicate everything to his (required) course. He's a lazy professor
This was a very good class. Professor sandomir is a great lecturer and the material was very interesting. Be certain to do your packback articles every week. Don't wait till the end of the semester to read them. They're very interesting and worth the time. Use his study guide for the exams. They helped me immensely
Did not even try to accommodate to anyone for anything. Lectures and readings didnt align with tests or quizzes. You wont know your actual grade till the end of the semester. Would never take again and shouldve withdrew from the class.
Professor Sandomir has lectures in what he calls "coffee shop talks" where you just discuss concepts in a relaxed way. If you, and your classmates, take advantage of this and ask questions you will learn A LOT. Sandomir can answer just about any question on the subject. Tests are the HARDEST I have ever taken but thats by design and theyre curved.
Professor Sandomir is phenomenal! I have taken two classes from him, his lectures are well prepared and his teaching ability is outstanding. His tests are graded very fairly and he uses curving methods that heavily favor the students who put in fair study efforts. There is no mindless busywork and the text book you read is not to heavy.
Flat out the best Professor I've had at the U. The lectures are brilliant and this he is very knowledgeable. The exams are difficult but the grading is fair. You need to really work in this class and if you don't you will probably not like Professor Sandomir very much. But if you do the work and listen attentively you'll love the guy.
You will hear fabulous lectures that really open your eyes to marketing . Dr Sandomir teaches a lot of strategy and its one of the most interesting parts of the class. Exams are tough, but he provides helpful study questions. There are a lot of business articles to read. Hes an incredibly good professor. Keep up and youll learn the subject.
Professor Sandomir is an excellent teacher for free-thinking students who only expect to get out as much as they put in. Students who feel entitled to only hearing opinions they agree with and receiving handout grades will not bode well with Sandomir. He is a much needed conservative voice in a school where applicable knowledge is mostly gone.
This class is way more interesting than I thought it would be and not at all what I expected. Its kind of a mashup of marketing finance accounting and history and economics and things like that. If you came to college to find at least one professor you would remember Sandomir is the guy. His lectures are incredible and really interesting
This is way harder than I thought but way more interesting too. The exams are pretty hard but the quizzes are pretty easy. Sandomir is what makes this class. Hes incredibly knowledgeable about everything. And he puts it all in there in ways matching up with marketing you would never imagine. Still better study because hes all business.
Professor Sandomir is definitely an intelligent lecturer and he has a lot of information to share. His tests are really difficult, but if you study diligently you should do above average on them and there's also a curve. The textbook wasn't necessary in my opinion because most of the reading can be found online for free, save your money.
Accounting, marketing, finance etc. Could have been dry but was a real intellectual experience. Professor Sandomir is excellent at explaining concepts and hes is fair in his grading but exams and quizzes are tough. They do include marketing strategy, accounting, and banking questions. You need to study but he gives you a lot of time.
Classes are good. Sandomir really know what he is talking about. But exam are really long, few hours and many questions. Intense reading, specially if you decide to do this course on summer. It is a challenging course but a really nice class
this guy showed a prager u video in class and tried to claim that christopher columbus wasnt actually a bad guy at all. i feel like thats all you need to know
Absolutely horrible. A 1000 level class and the hardest I have ever taken. Material is fascinating but Sandomir unnecessarily makes it as hard and tedious as possible. Whole grade is 4 tests and if you struggle in his class, tough luck. He comes with a superiority complex and is completely unfocused on helping you learn. A real Gale Nolan type.
he is extremely bad at teaching. he does not give out homework, group project etc. instead he will told you to " read though the entire book". and he barely uses any teaching material to help him instead of calling student to read the line in the text book. he does so little to help student and yet he grade student base on exam and quizs Only.
He doesn't give out homework so your grade is dependent on only tests and quizzes. He is very knowledgeable and knows what he is talking about, but he just talks in class and then tells you to go read multiple books and textbooks. His tests are dumb and even when you know the answer, he throws in two more answers that are basically the same thing.
Most difficult professor I have ever had. Lectures are so hard to follow and he puts way more content in his very subjective tests than he goes over in class. The class grade is based on only a couple quizzes and tests (no hw) Every test has had a bad answer key which I had him fix, but he didn't fix anyone elses. He doesn't even answer ?s in class
Professor Sandomir is by far one of the best professors you could choose at the U. He makes his class incredibly interesting and he truly cares about teaching the students. My only problem with him is that his tests and quizzes are very challenging, and many questions felt unfair. I would not take his class if you are lazy or overly sensitive.
Professor Sandomir is the kind of teacher I hoped I would find at the university. His lectures are so very good and so engaging.. I was writing down so much I asked him if I could record them and he said okay, if you can stomach it. Hes really feel by that way. He makes you work for the grade so get ready to study. Hes worth it though.
Our main grade was sourced from collaborative essays where his priority requirement was for it to be written in 'one voice.' He argued with students frequently and got annoyed when presented with other opinions. He frequently stated how disappointed he was with us as we were honors students. I dreaded class each week.
I liked this class at first, and I found his lectures to be interesting. His tests and quizzes are what really ruined it for me. They are way too complicated for what they are trying to achieve, and many questions are unfair. What's worse is that you are only graded on these tests and quizzes, so if you don't do well you're screwed. AVOID!!!
Don't listen to anyone who liked his class. I thought it was going to be a cool class and he seemed interesting in the beginning but he has his own opinion that he will NOT change from. Every test is a guessing game of what he wants us to say and the class average was always somewhere around 60% on tests. Wouldn't take anything from him ever again.
Had him for marketing BCOR 3040. Lectures go too fast. Disorganized. Graded final project unfairly.
one of the hardest classes i've ever taken. every test was a guessing game with the quizzes only being slightly easier. very unenjoyable, recommend you try to steer clear from his class
Your whole grade is entirely based on random subjective facts that dont actually matter. All the stuff you think would be important to write down? Forget it. Its everything but that. The class average for the final this semester was an F. He clearly doesnt care about this class. Avoid
While I respect the time and effort Sandomir has devoted to the University, I don't know if that stature has maintained? I took it online. Grade is composed of quizzes and tests. Lectures are just talking time, he'll verbally whittle one student's logic in front of the class, and the test questions are so ambiguous it's often a guessing game.
a lot of people give professor Sandomir a bad rep. From my experience, I loved this class with Sandomir. He is a very very smart professor who loves class engagement. He is very clear that if you don't pay attention and don't read, your grade will drop immensely. This is a very boring class, but Sandomir makes it so very interesting with his style.
Don't take a class from this professor the average final score was 52% and the only reason people pass his class is because he curves. His lectures are hard to follow and for quizzes and exams he mixes what you have learned in class with the reading. The reading is also very boring and hard to understand.
Some of the best lectures ever. Professor Sandomir makes me really love business subjects. Lots of quizzes so you have to stay on top of everything. Tons of reading and some of it is pretty hard. Do the work and youll do well. He has no patience for you if youre unprepared.
hard asf
He tells the class to slow him down whenever he is going too fast but then throughout the semester goes way too fast and constantly tells the class how behind we are and skips over videos and slides on the spot because he doesn't understand this is an intro course that meets for 2 hours per week. quiz averages are all 50-60%, forgets study guides.
Truly my least favorite business class. Alan is one of those professors that takes pride in tests that are too hard. 50% is an A. He insists he doesn't have biases and then shows those biases in his lectures whether it's what businesses are better or what political party he supports. You can't take him seriously when he contradicts what he insists.
He is honestly the worst professor I have ever had. His lectures are very vague and goes at a very fast pace. The class average right now is at a 50% and all of his assignments are quizzes, so you have no other opportunity to get a good grade in this class. Quizzes are seriously a guessing game and are so hard. Avoid at all costs.
I originally really disliked Sandomir, his quizzes are very hard, the final project he had for this class was quite confusing, and his lectures feel unstructured. That said, Sandomir is really one of the most knowledgeable teachers I have had and gives you some incredible information. You can somewhat easily get a good grade and he curves a lot.
Sandomir has very interesting lectures and loves to engage the audience. His quizzes are super hard, but they are all curved. Just pay attention, do your readings, take notes, and you'll be fine! He is a great professor and I loved learning from him!
I honestly don't think this professor is qualified to teach. Being a tough teacher is one thing, but every student in the class having a 55% is another. Hugh groups of kids would get together and take his quizzes. It was as if they were rigged. NO ONE would pass. He then applies massive curves to your grade because everyone was failing. DONT TAKE!!
I personally enjoyed this class, but understand the frustrations of my classmates. Because of its historical and philosophical content, it's a class that I think is suited for humanities-minded people. If you listen and read closely, however, you'll do fine. I got an A in this class with the curve. My grade was 78%.
The class was supposed to revolve around business fundamentals, but in Sandomir's hands it turned into business history and philosophy. This also makes this class very difficult to understand. As a 10-series course, its difficulty is way beyond the bounds. The difficulty of this class should be upgraded to Bus4050.
Sandomir is a great guy, he knows his stuff. However, the way he writes quizzes makes everyone miserable. His questions make you spend all your time second guessing pernicious nuances, instead of learning the actual material. A quiz should help you learn, his quizzes usually don't. Other than that, he's pretty great, but that's a bad issue to have.
Quizzes are so tricky every time.
He doesn't really have a structure to his class and is all over the place. I have been struggling with his quizzes and I asked him for reference points rather from his lecture notes, or from the chapters I was reading. He told me I could record class sessions for personal use. Not very helpful, I would recommend a different teacher
Your grade in this class is extremely subjective. There is no clear grading policy and you will not know your grade until it is entered into academic records. No attendance policy initially but then added an aggressive one to the syllabus a few weeks into the class. PARTICIPATION is what your grade will mostly be based off despite the syllabus
You will never end his class without having learned something. My group seemed like we were the only ones that did spectacularly on the final project. He wants his students to succeed so ALWAYS BE SURE TO PUT IN THE EFFORT. He wants you to come in and ask questions and will give you feedback. Be sure to pay attention to what he says in lectures!!!!
Get ready to listen to his own opinions every single lecture. Somehow Christopher Columbus is the patron saint of capitalism and his inhuman practices of slavery and land grabbing from natives is all ok because capitalism? Also, we know his stance on Roe v Wade which is strange considering this is a business class.
His test are based on subjective made up material that is not anywhere. 1/10 professor do not recommend
Sandomir is very smart and experienced in marketing. His quizzes are ridiculously difficult. You'll study and study until you're blue in the face and when you take them you feel mostly confident until you get your grade back and see that you only got 15/24. All his quizzes are incredibly difficult. The group project sucked in so many ways.
His lectures are interesting, but his exams are ridiculously hard. I received a raw score of around a D+ to C- on my midterm. Fortunately he does provide a heavy curve, but Sandomir needs to understand that it's not good to rely on a curve....
Sandomir is a very respected professor and has a lot of knowledge. Class is based around the textbook and 5 quizzes with no final. Only homework is the extremely difficult readings. He breaks it down in class. His quizzes are very hard, go to every quiz review with the TA its worth your while. Also has grade curve (65% = C) don't rely on it though.
He has a lecture style that's really hard to follow. He jumps around from topic to topic frequently and gets hung up on nuances that seem like they shouldn't really matter. He's not a bad guy, and frankly he is brilliant, but he doesn't present the information in a digestible way. Readings are very difficult historical pieces and quizzes are hard.
Not sure why everyone thinks this class is so difficult, do the study guides for the quiz and you'll get an easy A. Simple as that. He gives you the ability to find the answer to the vast majority of the quiz questions at the beginning of the semester.
There were 5 exams (40% of the grade) which were open note and open neighbor and the questions were available all semester, YET the averages were still around 60%. The exam questions were vague and didn't relate to lectures. There was a final group project worth around 50% of the grade, and there was very little direction for it.
Summer 2022 / The assignments and tests are not difficult. Attendance is mandatory.
I want to preface this by saying that I'm not a business major - I study mathematics and business analytics. So please listen to what I have to say bc the business majors are heavily biased. AVOID SANDOMIR AT ALL COSTS. More concerned with teaching his own opinions/interpretations than helping students understand the material. Also an actual racist
Attend class. Use the Study Guide. Read the text. Do the project. Get at least a B or better.
Sandomir had an interesting way of teaching. Readings he assigned were difficult to understand and the lectures were always HIS opinion of what was read. Had to go to lecture because the quizzes are a direct reflection of his lectures. Use the study guides and TA sessions. Had a 74% entire semester but ended with an A. more frustrating than hard
The class as a whole is extremely confusing and you are forced to buy the textbook that he authored. Your entire grade is eight quizzes, and the questions are difficult and nuanced. I went to all the review sessions and the TA was great, but I got bad grades because of wording errors or tiny nitpicky details that didn't relate to anything.
grade is based on 5 quizzes and a final paper, neither of which he prepares you for. his lectures are about whatever he feels like talking about, extremely hard to follow. quizzes are open note but extremely vague and subjective, its impossible to find material to reference to answer the questions
I loved Prof Sandomir. His lectures were easily the most entertaining, material filled lectures I have listened to here at the U. He grades us on 8 majorly curved quiz scores from throughout the semester. Because of this, I didn't perform very well which makes me hesitant to take another course of his. I finished the class with a 68% in canvas.
Worst BCOR class out of all
Professor Sandomir is the true learner's dream professor. If you're taking his classes just to fulfill a requirement or are looking for an easy A, you're in the wrong place. Not an easy class, but if you came to college to learn, you're with the right professor. I'm taking another one of his classes because I enjoyed this one so much.
Sandomir's lecture slides are packed with text and disorganized. His lectures were disorganized and frequently departed from the material. He gave us homework sheets that were the same as the quizzes, but finding the answers was incredibly difficult. He lectured extensively on the final project, but somehow never clearly explained the parameters.
Sandomir gives great lectures that are actually interesting. Pretty much all you have to do to be successful in the course is show up to class, listen to him, do your readings, and you will score high on your quizzes.
Overall ok teacher. Slides are really disorganized and the stuff on the tests are not on them, so you have to be there. Quizzes are insanely hard but get curved. He can be very abrasive and off-putting. Very right leaning and he lets u know it at any possible opportunity. Defends it by saying he doesn't care because he's going to retire- odd.
Sandomir is a very very tough grader and lectures are fast paced and hard to keep up. Avoid all his 7am sessions, he is very unreasonable and petty about attendances. Sandomir keeps attendance by making us sign a sheet with all our addresses and phone numbers exposed -- a clear violation of our privacy.
Difficult class, but very accommodating to students. He's willing to answer questions and help.
He is very knowledgeable, but the class is a lot of information. He does a good job explaining the material but the slides do not help as much as I would have liked. If you miss a day, you miss a lot of material. Overall great professor, just take good notes and you will be good. Grade is based off quizzes which, in my opinion, were pretty hard.
Honestly this professor was extremely tough, but he was also very fair. His tests are designed to be impossible to get a 100%, that being said he also realizes this and has a massive curve for every test to make up for this. His group project assignment is also massive and if you are to take from him make sure to get started on it ASAP.
Sandomir is a polarizing professor. The way he presents the material can be difficult as his slides are hard to understand at times and his lectures are basically him freely talking about the material. However, I believe he is very fair and he definitely knows his stuff.
I do not recommend taking BCOR 3040 from professor Sandomir. He was often quite rude and not understanding of his students. His slides were confusing and weren't much of a help. If you want to do well you need to commit yourself to lots of textbook reading, and even then you will still find that the quizzes are quite hard.
Professor Sandomir is CONTROVERSIAL! You either love him or hate him. A few things on how to do well... Go to class and take notes on what he talks about. His slides aren't super helpful for reference, so you must pay attention. Take notes on EVERYTHING he says, read the textbook, and try. If you want to learn take this class, not an easy A class.
Class seems hard but the curve helps a lot. Just go to class and pay attention and you should get a good grade.
this class was hard and he made it even harder. The only grades are 8 quizzes, which the majority of the class got below 70% on each one. He will call on you in class randomly which makes me not want to go and learn because the readings we talk about are already hard. He will call you out if he sees you "grazing" on your computer or on your phone
Lots of reading with very little structure to help guide students through the material. Not only that it was difficult to follow lectures and keep up with the class as he wanted us to understand all the readings in detail.
Reading heavy class, he makes this very clear. If you don't do the readings before he class, you won't do well and he asks people at random to see if they did it. If you keep up on readings and go to class consistently you'll do fine, it's really not bad and he's willing to explain anything you ask him. Ppl who failed are the ones who never came
He's intense, but brilliant. Definitely not your guy if you're looking for an easy way out. Show up to class, genuinely listen, take good notes, and ask questions. He's old school, but it was the most engaging class I've taken from the bus school so far. He's intimidating at first, but he's actually very willing to help if you communicate with him
One of the most interesting, knowledgeable, and life changing professors! This guy is no joke! He can provide you with incredible life advise and change the way you perceive business, social-interactions, and becoming well spoken and charismatic.
Sandomir is a downright clot-bag
One of the worst professors in the School. When your class average is a 50 after a midterm, you should take the hint and make your classes so the students don't go through hell for the class that you're teaching. He sure may have a lot of knowledge, but his teaching style, and the method of managing the class is the worst ever.
Professor Sandomir is a very kind, funny man. However, his lectures are very all over the place and extremely disorganized. He took a little too much pride in how organized his lectures were, according to him, but they weren't at all. Other than that, the class was pretty straightforward and again, he's a really nice guy and cares about marketing.
One of my favorite business professors I've taken. He can be intense if you're disrespectful but he is extremely clear with what he doesn't like, which is pretty much: attend class, don't get out your phone, and mute yourself on zoom. Do that and he is the nicest guy in the world, and super knowledgable about marketing. Lectures are fast but fun.
Overall, worst teacher I have had yet. He singles out students every class for questions and doesn't accept that you may not know as the reading are far more complex than basic reading knowledge. Shares his views on many things. Test heavy. No structure to class. Rambles on past class time but won't let you leave early. DONT TAKE HIM>
PowerPoint slides are paragraphs and paragraphs of text with nothing highlighted throughout the slides. 99% of the class is him just rambling about personal opinions on politics/gripes/etc. that have nothing to do with the course. Quizzes = subjective material. Knows what he's talking about, but doesn't know how to teach it to others.
This course is only graded on 8 quizzes. Those eight quizzes are so hard, AI can't even pass them. If you don't read the readings and he calls on you in class and you can't answer it he will shame you in front of the entire class. I fear he has little to no sympathy for his students who aren't at the top of their game. This class is also curved fyi
Sandomir's class is no easy feat, but with dedication and the right study tools like unstuckstudy ai, you can excel. The readings are dense, but going to class and engaging makes all the difference. Overall a challenging yet rewarding experience.
Sandomir was great at making the material understandable and good at giving lectures. The readings are hard to follow, and the professor expects you to have read all the material before class. The quizzes are very hard but are graded on a curve.
One of the most intelligent people I've ever had the pleasure of speaking to. The quizzes are difficult, but not unreasonable, and the curve helps a lot. He's very easy to talk to during office hours, both about class and anything else academic that interests you. Absolutely the best teacher I have ever had. Do not slack off during lectures!
Professor Sandomir made this class a terrible experience. I would recommend looking for a different class if you have to fulfill this credit. The lectures were my least favorite part of the day, he just keeps going in circles the whole period and you leave more confused than educated.
Nice guy but didn't understand his tests even when I attended class and study really hard
He wrote the textbook for this class, which speaks for itself. He is demeaning towards non-business majors or anyone who questions that capitalism is the best invention in history, that Columbus was a hero, etc. Test questions were unrelated to class and were super difficult, becuase all he talked about was his own opinions. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS
Your entire grade is based on 6 quizzes throughout the semester. He lectures every single class for the entire period. His class is impossible, and he is a seriously strange man. I would not recommend this professor at all.
This class was pretty tough. The grade was based entirely on attendance (10%) and a couple of quizzes (90%). There was a lot of content to cover, and I didn't think the main ideas of the readings were reflected on the quiz. Class is graded on a generous curve, so there's no need to sweat if you get around 60%.
A very rewarding class. Sandomir is serious about education and your commitment. You have to do the reading and prove that you understand the concepts. Do the work and you'll do fine. I grew more from this class more than any other I have taken in my academic life.
I'm convinced he's coming on here to give himself 5/5 ratings because this was easily the worst experience I've had in college. He wrote the textbook, gives extremely long-winded lectures, and quizzes are at times nonsensical. Avoid if possible.
Solid class. Quizzes can be tricky, but the lectures are very good
I really hated this professor. The class is 10% participation and 90% quizzes, and none of the material makes sense. The readings are impossible to understand, and the tests barely relate to the lectures. The questions are worded so oddly it's impossible. The average was around 50% but the curve made it around close to a B. Terrible class.
He created his own textbook, and the quizzes are nearly impossible. You can study for days and still get a horrible grade. Luckily the curve is really strong, do not cheat you will get a zero on test and it will take your already horrible grade even lower. DO NOT TAKE HIM
Extremely lecture heavy. Couldn't even try too understand his lectures. The quizzes are IMPOSSIBLE. The entire class would get 50s on the quizzes. Not a lick of knowledge was picked up in this class. DO NOT TAKE HIM. unless you want to get destroyed.
Professor Sandomir caught 18 cheaters in our section and failed all of them! Finally a professor who did the right thing for those of us played fair.
Lectures are just him ranting and are hard to follow. He is clearly passionate about the subject and loves when others are as well. Nice guy with some occasional low key offensive takes. Entire class is graded on 6 quizzes which are designed so you can never get 100% but the curve carries.
You might say that he's old school because of his teaching. But his teachings are actually valuable if you actually do the bare minimum, which is to read the book. He is the reason why I want to pursue a business degree. Thank you for all the knowledge that you've given me!
