What a guy. He is so nice, his tests are difficult but bring krispy cream doughnuts, moutaindew and nuts he likes that!
He is not very clear about what he is teaching. His handwriting is terrible and he stands in front of what he is writing so you don't know when he writes what. Tests are hard. No extra credit.
I took his online class. his website and instructions were very clear. the lecture materials were very helpful. I thought his labs and test were not very difficult.

Sauter is a great teacher although he do not interact with the students as much as most would like he does do a great job teaching and making sure everyone understands
he is boring and makes a lot of mistakes when doing work on the board. he has a mole on his nose too.. it gets distracting during class..
On-line syllabus & instructions very clear. However; it takes him 2 or 3 days to respond, but gives good feedback on problems missed. I'm not strong in math, but class not difficult because of required course materials.
his tests are pretty hard. i wouldn't take him again.
I got an A in his class, and I'm a math idiot. It wasn't easy, but he's a good teacher and I enjoyed his class. His tests could have been much harder, but I wouldn't call them easy.
I got a C in his class but still he's an Ok teacher makes lots of mistakes but pretty nice
He's a pretty nice teacher. I'm really not good in math but over all i made a C and that good for someone who sucks at math
I am sure he is a good teacher on campus but do not take his on-line class. He returns emails incredibly late. I went 2 weeks without hearing from him on a test. I wanted to see how I was doing and it kind of messed up the flow.
did not love him. his class was hard. he goes too fast for beginners to algebra. I made a C and I studied allot!
He helped me alot. He is easy to understand and wants students to do well. I hated math but after his class I liked it a little more!!
Well not very helpful and doesnt put clear instructions so you dont know when stuff is due.
I didn't like his teaching style. The material was boring and he made a lot of mistakes. Not very clear.
good prof teaches in a steady manner is available for consulting. I"ll take him again.
Took the online beginning algebra class- prof is USELESS! NEVER returns emails, have no idea what my grade is, even at the end of the semester, b/c he DOESN'T let you know what your test/lab grades are! I'd definitely take another prof over him!
I loved being in this class, Prof:Sauter is an excellent teacher. Many of us in his class dreaded the last day of class because of how much we enjoyed his class. For someone like me who struggled w/math he is the perfect teacher. He is very helpful and if you pay attention and participate in class your sure to get an A.
I do not recommend this prof. his teaching style is very unclear, and most of my class ended up repeating the course.
Professor Sauter was very monotone and hard to follow. Algebra is not one of my better subjects and he made me absolutely hate it. His teaching is not clear or helpful at all. I am now re-taking the course, like a lot of people that took the class with him. I DO NOT RECOMMEND PROFESSOR SAUTER!
if you are show up 95% of the time do the work take your time on the labs. Do all the homework you will get an A. He even has a sense of humor
as an online class teacher, this guy does not respond to hardly any emails. i still dont know some of my grades from early in the semester. And i have one week until the semester is over, and will not be taking any of his classes ever again. i dont know how this professor teaches in person, but he sure wasnt very helpful online.
Had last semester, he was more organized than my prof. this semester, however he never knew anyone by name, and didn't seem to want to. teaching was okay, just wrote example of each section on the board and works out for you. just make sure you do math labs before or by the due date, he will not let you make up if you miss. basically he is an ok.
Uh, where to start?! Prof. DOES NOT ALLOW students to go to bathroom at all, have cell phones out, has hard to read hand writing, gives several pop quizzes. I spoke to him several times about not understanding things, he never offered to help me. He did not allow extra credit. He left class sometimes before the students were all gone.
I'm not sure why the poor rating from some other students. I'm taking web-based. Instructor is very friendly, quick to respond to emails and test grading. Gave a review sheet for the final. I defninitely recommend this class.
The one day I actually wanted to learn more in class I asked him to explain something. He ignored me out right. Then there was something written on board I asked him not to erase it. He laughed and erased it anyways. Then he said there was a quiz and we said no. He just laughed again and said o well. So my friend and I dropped him.
I took Professor Sauter's express math course. While I agree that he occasionally rushes through the lessons and does not write legibly, he is an otherwise good teacher. He will answer questions, as long as they are relevant and haven't already been answered. The coursework is extremely easy, as long as you pay attention and take notes.
take a pass on this guy, not easy to understand, easy to loose interest, goes way to fast, insane amount of homework, pretty much teach yourself, you have to take algebra concurrently with his class in order to pass, not recommended for frequently deployed soldiers, his test are hard to follow very difficult
He is very rigid and doesn't appear to care whether his students pass or fail. He goes extremely fast and his hand writing is horrible. If you have a difficult time grasping math concepts, I would not recommend him for a Maymester.
Professor Sauter is a very nice man. I think he rubs some people wrong because he has a very dry sense of humor and will not baby his student s like omost Collin Professors do. He is very into math, and moves very quickly in class. I took his 305 class during Maymester and it was a MAJOR overload. I mananged to get a B, but spent many hours teachin
I think Professor Sauter is a good Algebra professor. I had him for Maymester, and had a good experience. He will not baby you. He teaches like a true college professor and expects you to be accountable for yourself. He will help you anytime if you just ask! He is NOT as bad as many people think!
This is not an extremely easy class and Sauter does a good job of teaching it. He is tough sometimes but is not hard to make an A or B if you go to class.
He was by far the worst professor I have ever had the misfortune to take for any class. He is disrespectful, disorganized, horrible at returning graded work, and couldn't care less if his students succeed. He expects students to be on-time but he does not apply this rule to himself. I HATED this class. DO NOT TAKE HIM!!
Maybe not the most personable professor at your disposal, but he's actually pretty clear in defining the principles you need to know for class. Homework is easy, tests are fine (especially with the reviews he gives).
Prof. Sauter is a great math teacher. Not sure why so many people dislike him. He is very clear about what he expects, and give reviews just like his tests. He worked with me many times during his office hours. If math isn't your thing, put forth a little more effort. Don't just blame your professor.
Professor Sauter was great, very friendly and explained things well. This was a Calc 2 class. He grades very easily as long as you show your work and understand the basic ideas. Everyone who left a poor review was taking baby math; definitely take him for high level math!
I dreaded taking Statistics and even did poorly on the first exam. BUT Dr. Sauter was VERY personable and helpful, you just have to ask! He is very clear and will reexplain until you understand! Attend class (his explainations are better than the book), do the homework and the labs and you will succeed! Would DEFINITELY take him again!! A++++
Want an easy A, don't take Sauter; there are easier professors. Nevertheless, he has been a most pleasant surprise, as an instructor; he's challenging, will test your resolve to do well & you'll be a better student for it. There are no freebies or hand-holding. He's, nonetheless, fair, firm, quite available and receptive to questions one-on-one.
Not at all helpful, makes you feel like an idiot for asking questions, makes the tests difficult (and nothing similar to what you prepare for) and then doesn't let you use your calculator. His teaching style is not very clear. This class wouldn't have been nearly as difficult with a different professor.

He is the worse teacher i've ever taken class with. I CHANGED my major because of him. back then i loved math but now I hate it. He doesn't grade easy. He goes by fast. I do NOT recommand him at all.
I'm a good student and a love math before you ask yourself. Sauter is a good guy and is usually around to help but you will be asking him for a lot of help because I don't think he explains clearly the first time around. What I didn't like was how he would break up test into two parts.
WARNING: DO NOT BUY THE TEXTBOOK! He made us use WebAssign which you can purchase online for $40 vs the textbook with the online code for $150+. We never used the textbook and the assignments have the textbook pages with it. Overall he's a pretty good professor. He will answer any questions you have. Watch out for his tests though...
Great teacher! Very helpful, and explains things clearly. Lots of homework, but it's a math class so what do you expect? If you have any questions he will answer them until you understand it fully. I would HIGHLY reccomend.
If you want to pass Math 1314, donot take Dr. Sauter class.
His notes are very unorganized and he doesn't answer questions very well. The examples he uses are very limited to one scenario of the situation leading many students to get confused on what to do in different problems. The text book is pretty much useless so that didn't help very much either. DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!
I really love math so maybe that is swaying my rating. But he was a great teacher, if you need help on anything, he'll show you examples. The HW is super easy, it's online, and you get several opportunities to answer the question, and you can use the textbook online and google for hw. Really easy A as long as you aren't superrr lazy.
Excellent Instructor. He really taught the subject well and really wants to help the students. He isn't for slackers and his courses are somewhat challenging, but if you pay attention, study and do your work, you should do fine. I enjoyed his class. Recommended.
This professor is not helpful. He does not like to answer questions without acting smug,he does not allow the class to practice problems in class; no matter how many types of problems assigned he will not do more than 2 examples. If you want to learn trig or make a fair grade DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!
great professor, he kinda reminds me of a fun, nerdy grandpa. If you do the work and meet him half way he will help you all he can; he is a very fair professor. although, this class is not a freebie you will work for your grade.
Do not take him! I repeat do not take him! Not a good teacher. Rush thru the material and doesn't really review before test. Very confusing and not very clear when teaching. Had to re teach myself after each class cause he doesn't do enough examples. Doesn't do extra credit. Save your money and time and don't take him!
This class requires you to be in class EVERY DAY. His tests have to be studied for and he's not the best at explaining things if you ask after class, but he is a good prof if you give him a chance.
If you are good at math it is a fairly easy class. Many people take classes and give professors bad ratings because they simply cannot handle the material. He uses WebAssign for the the homework, gives average difficulty tests but decent reviews and gave our class 2 or 3 single question quizzes. I would recommend prof. Sauter to smart people.
Not my favorite teacher.
He is very passionate about what he teaches. You can tell that he really loves math. There are always homework assignments and there are tests about every 3 or so chapters. The class is really easy. He doesn't allow retakes, but you shouldn't need them as long as you show up and do your homework. I would take it if you're not that great at math.
Boring professor but very clear at teaching. Felt like I was watching the clock most of the class, but thats because I'm good at math. Homework is mandatory and you can do it over and over again till you get the grade you want. If you're not good at math, I would definitely recommend him.
He's quirky, but nice. I'm retaking the class for a better grade. He's really good at giving examples in class and explaining what to do. You don't have to go to class, but you'll have short assignments due each class. He always shows you how to do the problems on the calculator, so it's an easy A if you try.
The only way to succeed in this class is to do all of the homework and study hard for the tests as they are not easy. The tests are structured in a "either you know it or you don't" fashion. He is quick to respond to questions and does so thoroughly. My only beef about him was that he did not grade our labs until the end of the semester.
Professor Sauter is a bit nerdy, but it's clear he is passionate about Statistics, and has a good sense of humor. Sit in the front, do your homework, you'll do fine.
I was out a lot mid-semester for personal stuff, still passed. Grades are made up of homework, labs, 4 tests, and final. I'm an A student but I've always struggled in math but he clarified and thrououghly explains every aspect. Quirky guy, but I really enjoyed his teaching.
Took his online class. IF you are good on your own this is the class for you. I self taught everything to myself. He kind of answers email but does not provide a lot of feedback. I would just google most of the problems and practice for the test. Got an A.
Tests aren't a huge part of your grade but they can catch you off guard. There's no multiple choice questions, so study and utilize the math lab. He makes stats fairly easy to understand. There's a lot of homework, but if you go to class and take notes (packets provided) you should do fine on it! 3-4 tests max all somewhat easy! Highly recommend!
Took Calculus 1 over the summer with Professor Sauter, it was a fast paced course with a TON of homework (what you would expect in Cal). He covered everything on the test, and if you did the homework, nothing on the test will surprise you. He is intense about notation, and there is no extra credit or recovery. If you fall behind its hard to recover
He is clearly a subject matter expert when it comes to anything math related. He will break things down barney style if you need it. It was not an easy class, but he made it easy to follow along and understand the concepts. Put in the work and you'll get rewarded. It is not every day you get to take a class under an expert.
His lectures are pretty easy to understand (but he has really bad handwriting). Very friendly and funny, and he's usually available if you need help. He often sends out a useful review before each test, and the final exam will be much easier than all previous exams. There will only be 3-4 labs, graded mostly on completion. Homework is done online.
This guy know MATH. He is very smart. His classes are very lecture heavy. There are 5 tests including the final and they are hard as hell. I passes with low C. He explains the material and answers questions if you have any. His Handwriting is BAD because he writes fast. The only beef I have with him is that his test are VERY FREAKING HARD.
I took this course online and decided to drop it after the first 5 days. There are about 2 to 3 homework's to do every day. Professor Sauter responds to emails/questions pretty quickly and seemed nice. My mistake was taking this class and expecting it to be easier because its online. It is seriously a homework and test heavy course!
He is a good prof and he knows the material well and he can teach the material just as well. My only gripe with him is that his exams are not easy and are poorly structured, but he thinks he's making them easy. His exams are 2 part and like 4-5 questions on each part so not much room for error. No exam reviews so very hard to study for the exam.
If you do the homework and review for your exam, you should make an easy A. His labs are easy, and he does respond quickly to emails.
I think he is an okay professor, but I can't recommend him for Cal 3. Cal 3 requires a lot of visualization and he doesn't really provide any visual aids or graphical representations. He simply can't understand why a student can't see it in his/her like he can. He also does not give exam reviews and he makes his exams challenging.
Nice guy. Extremely smart. He knows the material very well! Unfortunately not the best teacher had horrible hand writing and goes over material very quickly and seems to forget that not everyone is as smart as him when it comes to mathematics. I wouldnt recommend him.
I took statistics online and wasn't prepared for the fact that I was going to have to teach myself the entire course. Dr. Sauter didn't reply to several emails and didn't grade the labs until after we took the final so we couldn't factor our lab grades into our running total. Also, he made date mistakes in the class emails that I had to clarify.
Pretty tough grader, would deduct points for stupid stuff. Pretty fast paced teacher and a lot of material would be on the exam learned in just one class period. Take advantage of the math lab and a lot of HW. Very hard class in itself.. so study if math is difficult for you. Hes a very smart guy, but not the best professor.
I personally did not like the class at all. I took it online, and it was horrible. The test given for the first few exams did not correlate with the reviews he gave us. So studying for the test with reviews given was pointless. Doesn't respond to emails that often too, so be careful. Read the textbook and study hard if you take him.
He is a horrible instructor, never responds to emails on time, and acts like he do not understand the questions students ask. He should not be teaching. STAY AWAY!!!!
Take his class I got two 100s on my math test oh yeah I'm not good in math
Professor Sauter is a good professor teaching a hard subject. He does his best to engage with students and patiently explains confusing topics. Any students struggling can see him during his ample office hours. I recommend Professor Sauter to anyone taking a Math course. Homework was mostly online, and it showed how to solve the problems.
Professor Sauter was all around an okay professor. He was lenient on due dates during the semester due to covid 19. This is mainly a self taught class, but he does offer zoom meets every week for those who want extra help. As long as you study your homework A LOT, you will get a good grade on the tests. Study, study, study.
Make sure to check the length of the class, I signed up for this class in the fall thinking it would end in December when it ended in October. His grading is extremely excessive and doesnt have any official lectures. Honestly, hes not even a teacher at this point, all he does is pretty much grade your paper.
He is smart, and that's why I can't catch up sometimes, his class is not really fun but informative, just try to practice a lot and you'll do great on the quizzes and exams. He gave out practice sheets which are also helpful for the exam. Overall, he's ok, but I personally wouldn't recommend him for anyone.
He was an amazing professor of discrete math. We had 3 exams plus the final exam which was cumulative. We got sample tests before each exam as a review and the exams were pretty identical to that. His notes are amazing. You will do great as long as you attend class and do the sample test before the exams
Very time consuming class, there is a lot of homework on Pearson. Overall the exam reviews helped so I didn't find the class too difficult to manage. If u put in the work you'll be fine. Reccomend him
Amazing reviews before exams and homework is optional to do so that's great. I liked his lectures but at times I felt like I needed to teach myself a few things from reading the textbook or on Youtube. Overall not bad!
I've taken Calculus I and II and discrete math with Mr. Sauter. Very sweet guy. Super chill. He loves his job.
I absolutely cooked Dr. Sauter on the class survey as I felt he did a lot of things poorly in the class. Looking back, I do think he can improve in areas, but Idk why I was so harsh on him. He taught me a good foundation of discrete math and explained things in an interesting way. Exams require you think but this is where the learning happens!
Sauter is well versed in math. Has lots of teaching experience, knows how to help you learn. There is a LOT of time spent doing (thankfully forgiving) online HW, and very few grades that go into the gradebook, so treat every assignment with care. Gives very useful test reviews.
he sure knows his math guy is a genius at math but sometimes his way of teaching could be difficult to understand. If you study enough his tests are fairly easy
Easy professor. Really recommend.
Alan Sauter's class was disorganized, and he was extremely shallow. His classes were extremely boring, and by the end of it, you realized you didn't learn much of anything. While the material and test reviews seem straightforward, he made the test more complicated than it had to be. However, you show up to class and pay attention. You will pass.
Took him for discrete math 1, all you have to do is ALWAYS show up to class, PAY ATTENTION, take notes, and you'll do fine. Best advice I could give for this course specifically is to study the helpful test reviews and to be able to do the test reviews on your own and you should ace the class. His lectures are very helpful if you pay attention.
Mr Sauter is so chill and easy, you just need to attend the class frequently, take the notes carefully, and answer all of his questions during class, you will get high grade on each exam since all of his exam just cover the basic and fundamental part of each module, and even more easier than the practice test
