His lectures are very interesting, and he doesn't give any tests. Just essays, but they are fairly easy if you read the book and listen to his lectures. There are 3 projects, and they are all group projects and are fun.

Dr. Yabui is the best!! Listen to him and learn from him. I took this class a year ago and still learn from it. Loved it!

Great Teacher, his class is always interesting. Yabui's class requires people to get involved. I have learned a lot in his class. More teachers should follow his teaching example. Be prepared to question what you think you know and be opened minded.

If you have a chance to take one of his classes, DO IT! He knows what he is talking about and makes things easy to understand. I was not looking forword to taking this class, but I've learned a lot from this guy that will stay with me for a life time. I dont think I've heard one bad thing about him!

class is fair, u have to work to try and understand how things go, but as soon as u do, it should be fine. read the book, get to know him and what he talks about and u should be fine.

i really love this class. Mr.yabui knows how to explain clearly to us by giving us so many examples in our everyday lives. He knows what he's talking about! spch 225: His small group project really helps to break barriers within your group. My group definietly had problems, people hating on each other but he teaches you to resolve and work as a team. very important skill for the work force. SPCH 230: you better understand who you are and why people do certain things. solves emotional issues for urself.

i LOVED this class. first i wanted to drop it because i was so scared about turning in the first assignment because i thought i didnt understand anything he said. he gave me back my paper with an OUTSTANDING on it...hes really funny, easy to talk with, understanding, and if you stay on top of the workload you'll have no problems! I took Alan's class more than 3 years ago and I still keep in touch with one of my classmates.He was a great teacher and I loved doing the assignments because it really helps build your critical thinking and also makes you think a lot about a lot of things.You can think and express what you think freely many times. He is an excellent teacher and a role model. He is probably the most highly educated teacher at BCC!! He makes you THINK critically. Pay close attention to whatever happens in the class because there is a reason for it. His goal is not to torture you academically, but to make you think and ask questions. other techers should learn his method!

He's a great guy and he cares about his classes. You have to sift through a lot of words to find the good parts of his lectures, but they're there! He's very knowlegable. He takes random attendence, has a weekly paper due, and the project. No final. Really easy grader. The project was interesting and I learned a lot about small group interaction.

What an awesome professor! This guy has GOT IT! He knows what he's talking about. You might think he's a little scatterbrained at first, but if you follow what he's saying then everything will connect by the end of the class quarter. His Hawaiian style shows through!

Mr. Yabui is a great teacher if you pay attention, if you lose focus for even a second you'll be confused for the rest of the class. but he goes over the same material for almost a week so you'll get...overall good teacher

Very easy and great class! No hw for about half a semester. Just take some notes in class. Easy quizzes periodically. Need testbooks. People skip class 10+ times and still pass. A little hard ot understand the first week of class but if your not bored easily he's great. Best prof at B.C.C! I will definately be taking all his other classes.

This teacher is the best! You want to enrich your life and become a better person take Yabui he is very smart man and will help you better understand communicating with others. He as some fun projects no tests. It is all about how much do you want it for yourself and believe me he seems like he is not paying attention but he is!!!

WOW! I registered this class because I was told that it was an easy A. NOPE! I ended up working my bum off b/c all my group members were LAZY! Overall its totally worth it b/c you'll learn skills that will help you for other classes and your career. Really write deep on your journals and show up to class because attendance = grade.

His class is FABULOUS!!! His speech is not too fast, so i could understand well. one bad thing is many assignment!! lol :) however, if you take his class, you can make a lot of international friends, and you can be a very skllful to do presentation :D I like him!!!

Really great class but not easy! Lots of reading, researching, and working in groups. Mr. Yabui uses his personal experience to give you context for the concepts in the book and is open to hearing what your experiences are too. In the real world, this class is extremely valuable. I work with people from 38 countries so I know.

Yabui is the MAN! I took speech 220, 230 and american studies with him. He's extremely knowledgeable and will help u whenever u need it. He loves food so I bring him food, I get an A. haha jk, but seriously he loves food. his classes are definitely good for business majors as far as learning to communicate with partners.

He is a great teacher!! He knows his stuff very well. He taught me the things I really wanted to know! There were three Essay-type tests, but you can do it as a group. Also, there were three presentations. You can learn a lot of interesting and funny things from him for sure!! I recommend you to take his class!!

I've taken two of his classes they were both very easy. He just ask you to give presentations. All you have to do is put a half hearted effort and you will shine in his class. He tells a lot of stories and the same ones over and over again

Easy to get a great grade. He tells a bunch of stories to teach so you hear a lot of the same things over and over. Lots of group work which is cool.

Well, I'm writing these for those people that they said he is not good teacher. He is not good teacher because he is awesome. If you have project to do,you need to know everything, searching is part of the class,and when he ask you a question you can not answer him cuz you didn't work on the project very well. Plz don't make you fault to his fault

He is a nice old man! He is like a grandpa who really cares about his children. He gives critical comments in order to push us forward. His small group communication class is really helpful for our our academic success. I learned a lot during the assigned group project!!!!

As the person below says, Prof. Yabui is like a grandpa who cares a lot about his grandkids. Sometimes he confuses you w/ deadlines and toolbook is a pain in the butt, but you'll most likely get an A and make friends in the process. Textbooks are moderately used (don't necessarily have to buy them IMO). I'd recommend this class!

He is one of the best instructors at bellevue college. i took this class last quarter (spring2011). this class is very easy, just make sure you come to class, since he sometimes has a signin sheet and also do the projects and write journals. i really enjoyed being in the class, it was fun espically doing the projects.

he is awesome. People said he is not teaching anything, and that is correct because you can not learn communication by reading a book. you need to communicate with people to learn it. I don't know why some people think that learning means just read read read and then take a exam.

Alan Yabui was a wonderful teacher. With him you will be unaware of your learning progress due to the unique teaching style of seminars, discussions, real-life examples, and group work. BE AWARE that he is a teacher who quietly sits back while expecting each individual to do the syllabus work without reminders. read the book! no HW other than that

Great teacher, he tells lots of stories about his past. 3 projects with a final letter where you tell him what grade you want & why you deserve it, no final. He tells you at the beginning, sit in the front row, make sure he knows your name, use the vocab you learn in class and you get an A. Great easy class to take with a more time consuming class.
