Very lively prof, clear, willing to answer questions, hw not hard.
I am about halfway through this class and it's easy until the tests. Hardly any hw the whole semester, but the tests ask in depth questions that require a lot of reading time because each chapter is so long. He study guides take a long time to fill out. She is not bad but I reccomend looking for an easier teacher, if not she is not 2 bad.
She's a great proffersor and really cares about her students' progress but she has an in class simulation that's just terrible and a waste of time. The tests are not clear and nothing in test really cover anything in the book. I think that the simulation was not neccessary. Good professor but jumps into the subject without really explaining basics.
Take any class you can with her - you will learn alot and it is fun and interesting
Dr. J is great. My advice?? READ READ READ READ!!! write down everything she writes on the board... do the study guides and you should do well on the test. It can be hard at times but pay attention and getting an A is not impossible
She was tough, but fair. I worked extremely hard for a high B, felt I deserved an A, but she wouldn't budge. Attendance not mandatory to a point. I would not recommend working FT and taking her class. You have to put a lot into it.
Prof. Jeydel makes class interesting. I like the book she chose also, although I have talked with many students and we've all agreed the tests have little to nothing to do with the text. She teaches per her notes. She doesn't really take attendance, but if you miss those notes you will do badly on the tests. Fair teacher, fun, good sense of humor.
Awesome Teacher, goes out of her to make sure you understand, always has a Beacon Tutor, very good for Poli Sci 301 and 302.
Jeydel is a great teacher. She really grabs your interests about politics and she's really interested in what you're involved in. Especially with the 2008 election. Sometimes she lets the class veer off topic but she usually gets it back. MAKE SURE YOU GO TO THE CLASSES THOUGH! Or get a study buddy. You miss so much if you miss one day.
Great teacher, but doesn't let you get away with not studying - tests can be tough. I attended the beacon tutor group and found that the studying I did at the group was sufficient for me to pass the tests. Highly recommend the beacon tutor! Made politics interesting to me. Just read the book, attend class and go to the group. You'll do well :)
Difficult class. Very hard to understand, does not answer your questions unless you go during her office hours or says "it's all in the syllabus" when in fact it is NOT. Tests are very difficult and the study guides are not helpful. Very vague instructions for the homework assignments. Scolds the class often and makes you feel like a child.
Hard class. Lectures are interesting tends to get off topic sometimes. She writes her own tests that are not related to the book or lectures usually multiple choice but very hard questions, and I am a A/B+ student and found some questions really hard.
VERY DIFFICULT CLASS! Jeydel knows her subject and you will learn a lot, but be ready to work really hard to get an A. You will need to study very hard, she writes her tests and you never know what exactly will be on it (study guide does not match). Take this if you are passionate about politics AND are very focused in your schoolwork.
must read the chps to do well on the tests. jeydel is a great teacher and willing to help if you make the effort. she does test right off of her notes from class and the book so be prepared
WORST TEACHER EVER!!!!!!!!
This professor is really good. if you like politics take her class, she is kind of hard, but interesting and fun. I learned a lot of interesting things about politics in her class. you can get an "A", its not an easy one, but really possible. just take notes and read book. Jeydel is COOL!!!!
I went into this class thinking class was going to be a fun, exciting & interesting class. Not so much. I've never seen an ill-tempered professor such as her. Most teachers want you to do well & are willing to work with you. Not this one. I would strongly suggest taking the class w/Sukkary. Advise about tests: about 1/2 of info not on tests. What??
creative teacher. gives you the tools you need in order to succeed. read text book and you will get an A on tests
Dr. Jeydel is a no BS teacher. Lecture notes are useless. Read ALL the assigned chapters and you WILL do well. Her tests are all M/C, and true/false. Final is a take home essay! Got an A, but a challenging course. Can't sleep, must pay attention.
I didn't like this woman, I felt like she was always talking down to the class. I also disagreed with a lot of her political views. I ended up using the book a lot because I felt the way she lectured was uninformative and a little disorganized. If you raise your hand and make valid points every so often though, she'll like you.
comparative politics this semester. the test had little to no relevance to the study guide. injects opinion in very concentrated bursts. lecture has minimal use for test. i passed the test, however she does a horrendous job of teaching for it; she does not highlight any particular sections of importance for tests, out of the 160-200 pgs of reading.
Very hard tests. Can be rude and unapproachable. Extremely knowledgelable and unfortunately seems to feel that most students are idiots - because she is "published" lol. Someone should let her know she's not the only "doctor" on campus...
Tries to make the students feel like idiots , she cant stand it if you prove a point and she is wrong..she needs to get over herself and quit throwing her degree around it really show insecurity in what you do.
she is super hard. you have to read the book 24/7. not helpful at all. if you want to pass this class dont take her
I don't know what the other people here are talking about, but I really enjoyed her class. Her tests are hard but they aren't a huge part of the grade anyway. She is a very smart person and is, in my opinion, very good at keeping her own views out of lectures. By the end of the semester the class didn't even know which party she was a member of.
AWFUL Professor. Her study guides are useless, she has NO rubrics for her papers...even though she grades tough. She rambles and is hard to follow. She is a narcissist. Do not take her class if you are looking to prepare for the next poli sci class or want to major political science. A WASTE OF TIME! TAKE A DIFFERENT PROFESSOR!
Conceited, jumbled, rambling. This professor just assigns reading from the boring text, then makes you re-read the same stuff in her powerpoint, and take a test. Way to take the interest out of a great subject! This is one professor that I can seriously caution against taking.
A WASTE OF TIME...
SHE IS A HARD PROFESSOR WHEN IT COMES TO TESTS AND ASSIGNMENTS. SHE WAS SOMEWHAT FUNNY AND DIDNT MAKE CLASS INTERESTING. WHEN THERES A LOT OF PEOPLE IN HER CLASS IT MADE IT MUCH HARDER TO CONCENTRATE. BUT OVERALL, SHE TAUGHT OK. IF YOU LIKE BORING CLASSES TAKE IT. I KNOW I WOULDNT
Miss Jeydel is a nice teacher, she just expects you to be an attentive student. Tests are somewhat difficult, you actually have to take time to study. She is really understanding though if you talk to her outside of class, most of the points come from the Congressional Simulation, so make sure to actually do all of those assignments!
There should be no surprises if your read the syllabus. everything is outlined there and she is not going announce everything. when writing the paper follow the questions in the syllabus. the material is not that hard to understand if you actually do the work and study for the test. she has no problem helping you outside of class
Good teacher. Very interested in the subject. If you read the material and go to class you will do fine. Gives good lecture notes, overall and interesting course.
She follows the textbook like a map. If you keep up with each chapter and participate in class your bond to do well. It's an easy class if you do the work. She is a fun energetic teacher, discussions in class are interesting. She is totally nuts in the best way possible
hard teacher! on the plus side, she is very clear in lecture and u can tell that she knows what she's talking about. lectures are for the most part interesting, and when they are not she usually knows before hand and is thus a little more understanding. HOWEVER, she is just way 2 hard, take it else if u don't want to do a bunch of work
Dr. Jeydel is AWESOME. I guess I don't need to be here since I dropped her class (don't do 21 units with a partner living 2 hours away), but this class is totally worth it if you're interested in comparative govt (I speak for those who want to take POLS 302 only I guess). She opens great discussion and really ties everything in together nicely.
she is awesome! really knows her subject and very good at teaching it. dont talk or text during class she will call you on it. very approachable and always answers questions. tough yes, but she teaches a college level class at a college level
She is a great teacher just don't be rude to her in her classroom she shows you respect so do the same. If you plan on packing up while she is teaching that is rude and highly disrespectful she has her Doctorate in Government she is here to teach YOU she knows her stuff so be respectful!
Jeydel is great! She comes off like a hard teacher but actually she is not too difficult. No homework. Lectures are clear. One essay that isn't to difficult just be creative. If you pay attention to lectures and take notes you will do fine.
Great teacher. She knows her stuff and expects the same from you. Make sure you read the book and listen to the lectures, cos it is your test material. Tests are not that hard if you keep up with the readings study your notes. Take her if you're good in politics. PS. Do not disrespect her, don't be late to class nor be rude in class she hates that.
Great class. Dr. J is an interesting person. Totally knowledgeable on the subject of comparative politics. She can be strict at times but rightly so, she only wants you to succeed! Overall great teacher, great class.
If you do not like reading you will not understand anything. I read most of the chapters but still ended up getting C's and D's on the tests. Her lectures to me were unclear and her study guides did not help AT ALL, but she is a nice person but her tests aren't!
Dr. J knows her stuff. Read the books and take notes. If the lectures sound repetitive, it's because she's trying to make a point of which you should be notating. Be respectful and don't skip class and you'll do just fine.
Brilliant women I thoroughly enjoyed her as a professor and an individual. She would always greet me outside of class if she passed by. A lot of reading and a lot of information to take in, but thats expected with this course. Pop up quizes sucked though.
Hard tests
very hard exam. crazy.
Great teacher, very knowledgeable & passionate. 4 multiple-choice tests with study guide provided. She drops the lowest test score. There is a 4 page paper due at the beginning of the semester and a take-home essay for the final, both are a little hard. The rest of the class is lecture, but she makes it fun.
This class was challenging. I wouldn't say hard but you have to put effort. Lectures are very useful. Also read the text to help clarify something you don't understand. The professor is cool. The test aren't hard if you know your stuff. Just watch out for essay questions. Not hard, but very challenging class. Just don't slack off, and you'll be ok.
She knows what she is talking about and very knowledgable.Make sure you read the book that will help you the most since she puts things on the tests that arent always on the study guide. Reading and doing well on the paper will help you but her tests are very long so make sure to study
Dr. Jeydel is a very good professor. Her class is informative and she takes the time to explain anything you might be confused on. The tests are not hard if you do your reading. There are unannounced quizzes from the reading. Essays are not that hard, they just require you to put in a little time and some thought. Nothing tricky about her class.6
Dr. Jeydel is very knowledgeable and passionate about political science. She has a no nonsense approach to teaching. Attending class and king good notes and studying them is key in this course. Also she has a student participation project for the class. Be interested in and participate in this project. It has a big impact at grading time.
She's a horrible excuse for a professor. Not helpful whatsoever. Had humor the first two classes, none whatsoever the last 8 weeks. Read the book, don't attend class. Most helpful advice. I fell like dropping, but I literally have one class left so f it. If you like feeling inadequate, take her.
Difficult class. I read all my chapters and complete my study guides but I still get below a C on my tests. I try my best but that isn't good enough.
Dr. J expects her students to do the reading so her classes are not for the lazy. She is very clear with where you should be and where the class is headed. Her tests try to trick you but aren't to crazy, i got 70%+ on all of them with minimal studying .
She is very nice and willing to meet, but her tests are very hard and the reading is hard to understand. Her class is made up of 4 tests & 2 essays so no wiggle room. The class is very hard.
If you do what your told, you'll pass no problem. She's very to the point. Doesn't take lightly to slackers, but overall I learned a lot. Also, she was very helpful if you just took the time to ask her questions.
Dr Jeydel is really funny and super engaging. Show up on time, read the text, ask questions, and just freaking listen and you will do just fine in the class
Great class, great attitude, great communication. Just wonderful in general! As long as you come to class, pay attention and do your work you will be golden!
I would recommend taking a different teacher for poli sci, especially if you're really eager about it and would like to learn more. Jeydel isn't the absolute worst but she's one of those teachers who's not willing to work with you, can be very vague and condescending and is definitely an "acquired taste"
Dr. Jeydel is an incredibly brilliant professor that uses humour to provoke serious thought into serious issues. The tests are easy if you read and come to class; she was willing to meet with me out of class as well. Plus, she is *hot*!!!
She was my favorite professor this semester.:)
The test are EXTREMELY hard. The two essay aren't that easy. There is no extra credit and she not the most helpful. My advice is take Political Science with another professor
Prior to taking this class I had no interest in political science. This professor changed that by giving very informative and interesting lectures. I liked the fact that her class lectures made it almost impossible to fail test. As long as you read the text and take good notes, you will pass this class and learn a lot of great information.
As I told her at her office, she's a great teacher with an awful subject. You can tell she loves it, but I don't. Politics is not something I know or love, so it was rough for me. And I'm an A student. With that said, I'd have gotten a much worse grade in anyone else's class. Plus she's brilliant and kinda cute. I enjoyed listening to her.
Dr. Jeydel is a wonderful and intelligent woman, and I really enjoyed her class. She really prepares you to transfer to a 4 year university. Her class may seem difficult to some students, but her course work is all well worth it because you really learn a lot of important information.
I would suggest choosing a different teacher for political science. She's so rude and condescending. However, she does get the material across well.
The semester consists of one paper and 3-4 tests. Each test is on multiple chapters so expect to read over 120+ pages to study for each and every test. Also some random papers possibly it depends. Lectures she just goes over the chapter and keeps going, an occasional video every so often but expect to write notes every day.
I absolutely adored professor jeydel this semester. Her lectures are long but the material is covered, she is the epitome of what a college professor should be. Stern, yet there if you ask for help. Always responds to emails. Prepares you for transfer. Highly recommended.
Very boring class. Everyday consisted of lectures not a single day went by where she didn't lecture. I wouldn't take this class she's rude and condescending.
I would not recommend this professor as she is condescending and rude, even yelled at a student.
Only 4 tests, 1 paper, and the final to determine your grade all of which require a lot of studying and are pretty difficult to passdo well on. Wouldn't recommend this classprofessor although it is possible to pass and helps if you talk to the professor and do a lot of reading.
Political Science is a SCIENCE - and was taught as one in this class. It was a foreign language to me, so I had to study hard. Do not take for an easy A or if you have a thin skin. Teacher is interesting, fun, funny, and has access to great books, links and videos - but she makes you work for your grade. Learned a lot -would take again.
Dr. Jeydel is a tough grader on any writing assignments. I took her in the summer and the tests are not that difficult as long as you use the book, and a little bit of the notes. She will accept as many people as but wont pass the persons capacity.
Dr. J is a wonderful professor. She knows her stuff and is easy to approach. This is my major and she helped me a great deal with finding a 4 year to transfer to which was awesome! 5 tests drops 1 then a final which is an essay you have a few weeks to write and bring in also a couple group things in class and one essay not to bad but read the book.
Dr. Jeydel is an amazing professor! She is really passionate about Political Science and is sometimes blunt about the things that are happened/have happened, but she really stresses the importance of it. 4 tests (but drops the lowest score) and 1 essay to determine your grade in the class. You need to read the book. Very interesting class!
Jeydel is a professor that expects you to have a basic knowledge of the subject. I didn't, and walking into this class was like walking into a glass door. She can be very blunt which others can perceive as being rude but i think shes' just clear. 5 exams and the lowest score gets thrown out + plus two papers one of them being part of the final.
She was a nice teacher who tries to make the subject interesting. It's a very boring class. Your grade is based on nothing but tests and a paper that's your final, which is hard because tests are my weak point. So this was a tough class to pass. Dr. Jeydel is very nice but very blunt, she doesn't sugar coat anything. Don't miss class!
Deep knowledge of subject and great way of breaking it down. Lots of reading, but if you keep up there, you'll do well. Very straightforward, normal for an east coaster ;) Wants to see you succeed. Would happily take again. Warning, tests were only grade for summer. Final paper. Tough to stay ahead. Learn a lot if you stick with it.
This was the only class I got a 'C'. Political Science is such a boring subject unless you are interested in Politics. I tried my ass off but still I barely passed the class. Anyway, she is a great instructor, but it was just too hard for me
Hard class. Have to purchase and read 2 textbooks. Would stay up for 5 hours studying the night before the exam only to get B/C. 4 hard Exams, an easy research paper and some group work. Don't show up if ur 5 mins late; locks the door or will tell you to get out. First B I've gotten in college.
Very hard class. Only B I got, and I'm a science major. Her grading is very ambiguous, hard to tell what she really wanted. The paper was pretty difficult to write that would appease her beliefs. Homework is easy, test are hard, and essays are harder. SAVE your GPA and look elsewhere.
She can come across really harsh at times, but she is nice once you get to know her. There is no extra credit, although she will drop your lowest exam score. Keep up with the reading and be sure to study for the quizzes and exams.
Very boring. Powerpoint lectures straight from the book every day. Tests are mercifully hard. She's not lenient AT ALL. Seriously makes you work for the grade. I worked hard and still failed. Pick a different teacher.
She's just your average teacher. Her exams are very straight forward, but you do need to study. If you're looking for credit I would argue it's an easy C at best. Anything above that you're going to have to work hard as they are a bit complicated at times. Personality wise can be rude, but I wasn't trying to be friends so I could care less.
I loved her! I took her a few semesters back. No homework just 4 tests and an essay. Show up, read the books, and you're good. I got an A. all these people saying her tests are hard just didn't read or were sleeping in the back. If you have absolutely no homework, how hard is it to read? she is no nonsense and that's what I loved most about her.
Jeydel is true to her core. Sassy, brutal, but very caring & honest. Do NOT try to be the smartass of the class, she'll show you up in no time. Extremely knowledgeable and incredibly interesting. Tons of personality, lots of notes, but don't skip any classes. Show her you're willing to put your best foot forward - she'll help every step of the way.
She is a wonderful teacher. That is, she really teaches and holds the class together so that she can get through the necessary material needed for the student to do well on her tests. She is strict but it's needed. So many kids yakking it up and pulling out cell phones. She makes this subject interesting. I think she's a very good professor.
If you are planning to take a 302 dont choose her. Boring lectures, most of the question will be answered like i dont know i have to do a research about it. Lectures are copy pest from book. Exams are tricky, questions will match with multiple answers, and your answer is of cours, the wrong one. Save your GPA dont regret
Very unspecific with what point she wants us to take from lecture. when you ask her a question her response is mainly "idk" when it is specifically a question from the topic she is teaching. she do not give any good lectures just takes what she want from the book. when it time to test, nothing she discussed is on there.
I would recommend taking a different teacher for political science especially if you are eager to learn. Long and boring lectures. She cannot answer any related questions to the topic, and most of the time her response is "Let me do some research" or "I don't know." I strongly recommend you to pick a different professor if you are planning to take POL 302.
exams based on lecture and heavy on textbook information. aka YOU NEED THE BOOK
Grades determined by 4 tests; she drops the lowest score, plus a paper and a related poster presentation. Lectures and group discussions/work is the norm. Tests were slightly above average difficulty but her study guide is comprehensive. Helps those who need it. However don't take this class unless you're a PolSci major.
While she is knowledgeable in her subject, she seemingly just doesn't care about her students. A lot of trick questions on the tests from obscure sections of the textbook or not in the book at all, locked students out if they were late to class, and seemed bored with her job. In general, she comes across as mean-spirited.
I will admit that this professor was one of the most difficult ones I've had at ARC. She is very strict. If you are late, you will be locked out of the classroom. She is very serious in her approach. She is not afraid to tell someone off in class and can be intimidating. I liked the class and did well, but can see why others did not.
Great lectures and gets back to emails really quickly. I did not pass the class but that was my fault. Should have payed closer attention to the syllabus near the end. There are only 4 tests and no homework. I'm not going to say that is easy but really, it should be a breeze IF you read.
She is not impossible to pass. She rewards your effort, if you show zero effort youll get just that. She is more than willing to help with any issues.
