This woman is incredibly confusing. Her analogies confuse you more and she seems to be having a love affair with the element lead!!! Don't take her if you have an opportunity not to.
She does like her lead but is a relatively fair teacher in the end. Make sure you do the evens in the back of the chapters or else you're done for. Lectures can get boring at times but she is very helpful outside of class.
I love Doc. Fitch. She really puts a lot of time into her lectures and cares about how everyone is doing in the class. The even problems are a must. I am taking her again. One of my favorite classes so far.
this lady is in love with lead. She uses powerpoint and always has mistakes on them. It is best if you read before the class and practice practice practice, all the even problems and you will do fine
I like Dr. Fitch. I find her to be very helpful and she's a little crazy at times, but she keeps you listening. Yes, she has mistakes on her powerpoints but that just shows that she is human.
what can i say, the lady trys hard. she odviously wants to help her students, but she is crazyily obsessed with lead! tests are hard, but you'll learn your chem!! do homework and you should be ok
she tries. her tests are hard. read the chapters before you take the test and you will be fine. shes crazy, but nice. good luck kids.
Very nice lady, but her tests are impossible. She is obsessed with lead. If you like chemistry and lead, take her class.
she makes me want to kill myself, i can't sit through class for more than 5 minutes, she is obsessed with lead and makes numerous mistakes, she does try hard though, i REFUSE to ever take her again

She really wants you to do well! I'm terrble at chem, but she helped me so much that i raised my grade. Her grading schemes make it impossible for you to fail. With all her work and research under her belt, i was honored to be taught by her for 101.
4 tests: 3 midterms and 1 final. Many quizzes during discussion session, but negligible. Has multiple grading schemes based on either the final or the 3 midterms. Very nice professor. Lots of extra credit on tests.
not a good teacher....but very helpful....worked my ass off and got a 100 on the first test
Dr. Fitch is a really wonderful teacher. She really wants her students to do well. Her grading system makes it easy for you to do well. I mean I did and I suck at chem. she may be a little confusing, but if you read the chapter problems you will do fine.
SOOOO EASY....too many "bad asses" sitting in class doing nothing is the reason for the low class average...got 100% on everything by reading the book and doing ALL practice problems once...didn't go to lecture!
God bless this woman! just take it, she is very very helpful and wants her students to succeed!
The worst teacher I have ever had. Doesn't explain anything well! I don't know anything about Chemistry from her. She's not good at all.
she is a very nice person and she tries hard to be a good teacher, BUT she is not. I learned 'nada' in her class. Instead, she confused me even more and her exams are pretty hard. Take her if you really know your chem material
Short but challenging tests. Very good curves on the tests. Many different ways to determine grade. She is really nice and approachable. She also wants to help students do well in chemistry.
she wants her students to learn but often her notes and examples are confusing. i pretty much didn't go to class and taught myself from the book. go to discussion though, it really helped.
dr. fitch is a great professor. some of her tests can be challenging, but she grades fair and curves them well. from my understanding she is one of the best chem professors at loyola.
She is pretty good overall. Her lectures sometimes are off. She sometimes forgets she is talking to students of 101 and not some PhD class. Do the problems. If you know how to do every problem end of chapter, you will get an A. She is willing to help. Ask for help in office hours.
Dr. Fitch is an great prof. She tells you what to study and how, she is available for help when you need it. She may be a bit spacey but she knows her stuff. I didn't once read the book nor do any book prbs and I got an A easily. Just print out the old exams she posts on blackboard and do those and u'll be more than fine. good luck!
powerpoints have too much superfluous info. go to class/go to discussion and you'll be fine.
Dr. Fitch is all about her students. She let's you use a cheat sheet on all your tests and makes all her lectures and old exams available to you. Make sure you do the problems from the back of the chapter and you will be fine. She can be a little spacey sometimes but awesome awesome professor.
very nice teacher, devoted to her students, the EASIEST of the gen chem teachers, by far...if you do the back of the chapter problems and make a detailed cheat sheet, youll be more than fine. she drops the lowest test and in some cases, even the lowest 2 tests and allows you to double the weight of the final! awesome prof.
She is the easiest professer for gen chem, but when you get to orgo you'll wish you had taken a better teacher. You might as well learn the material now than have to later down the road by yourself...
she cares about the students and tries to explain things well but can still sometimes confuse you... gives too much background with powerpoint and doesnt stress the basics... probly better than the other gen chem teachers tho
Very fun prof! She uses lots of PPTS but they're hilarious. Cares about the students - tries to learn all 100+ names. Lets you use one sided cheat sheet per exam. She's more than a little spacey, but good overall. Too bad she only teaches intro chem.
shes nice and she tries but shes really confusing, her powerpoints have waaaay too much extra stuff in them and she gets off subject a lot. basically dont bother going to lecture because it will only confuse you more. read the book and do all the problems. be ready to teach chem to yourself. easy only if you have a good chem background though
shes nice but doesnt know how to teach at all. basically have to teach everything to yourself. lets you use a cheat sheet but the tests are pretty hard anyways. dont bother going to lecture cuz it will only confuse you more but you have to go to discussion. i wouldnt recommend at all unless youv already taken chem in high school and know it well
relatively easy. attending every lecture is beyond necessary, just be sure to read the book on occasion and do some back of chapter problems...grade is boosted alot by OWLS and discussion points...lectures are not the best, but she for sure tries real hard and is devoted to her work. recommend for sure
easiest gen chem teacher. lectures are way out there, though. she uses too many real-life examples and very little problems. take her for the A
She really wants her students to learn and she is a really nice lady. But her tests are really hard. I still don't know how to properly study for her tests. Her power points are kind of everywhere too, but they are somewhat helpful. If you study hard and go to the review sessions you should be fine in this class.
Overall the class isn't too hard. Cheat sheet for each exam...usually they're too hard so she just puts a big curve on them. Lectures can be kinda random and all over the place. Better than most other chem profs.
She is really nice professor. She is always willing to help her student. Even though people think that her powerpoint lectures are all over the place, but if you go to lecture then you will def understand. She gives hints for the exams. If you study hard, you will find this class a fun one.
Professor Fitch is wonderful. The class is not easy though and you have to work hard to understand the material. She curves a lot when the class doesn't do well, and there are no suprises on her tests. To do well though, you have to study on your own.. read, and do lots of practice problems. The class is manageable, and Fitch loves what she does.
Dr. Fitch is very passionate about what she does and helps her students in any way possible, she is an amazing teacher. I definitely would not say she's easy though, need to do problems in book, go to lecture, and really understand the material. i would highly recommend
she is a very nice prof. she tries really hard for her students to understand. but her lectures are sometimes really random! i have no clue what she is taking about at times. you need to study really hard for the tests. they aren't impossible, but its not an easy A. also, she's a total pushover, if enough people want to postpone a test, she'll do i
She is a really nice person, but sucks at teaching. Don't bother printing out the power points, they are long and useless. No quizzes, just 3 tests, which were hard and long. I barely went to class and I did fine, but I had to teach myself. She is willing to help, but go to her office hours and discussion than her lectures.
First of all, she loves the element lead. Chat up lead with her & you're golden. OK, in reality, she doesn't make a lot of sense but she's enthusiastic and tries hard, plus you get a cheat sheet. But you'll have to teach yourself, cause you won't learn anything from her. Overall, chem profs here are just too busy to provide students with extra help
Great teacher. She explains concepts using analogies that make the material easier to understand. Her powerpoints are amazingly healpful and I personally found the OWLS online assignments particularly helpful as well. Her tests are REALLY hard and long, but she is fun, energetic and I look foward to going to her class every day!
ok, she is an great person and makes class interesting. BUT, she doesnt make chem very easy.. her lectures are all over the place cuz she provides a lot of real world examples.. OWLs are helpful but exams are TOOUGHHHH
She teaches okay, given that the material is complex instrumentation. In-class exams were impossible. Pray that she switches back to take home exams. You collect, digest, and run your own samples at the end of the semester and create a poster to present. USE THE MICROWAVE. There's a lot of math and physics. Ask about calibration curve early.
Lead Lab. Welcome to the most time consuming Chem class of all 4 years of undergrad. Every week a new instrument is used and a group lab report is due. Lab reports (specifically questions) take forever and are on average 10-15 pages including figures. However, the lab should be a guaranteed A because Dr. Fitch allows rewrites. The TAs are helpful.
chem 101 - she thinks your whole life revolves around studying. for some kids at loyola that might be the case, but some of us have other responsibilities that are just as important. read the book and you'll do fine, but dont bother going to lectures, she wizzes through slides that you dont need. shes all over the place.
Terrible. Absolutely terrible. She just confuses me even more every class I go to. Her tests are hard and she constantly makes mistakes and gives free points back. Class is super boring and she is hard to follow. I would not take this course.
She is very conceptual and hard to understand. Her lectures are painful, although attendance is not mandatory. She does try to help but only ends up confusing you even more. Only take if you have taken AP Chem. Her tests aren't too hard but you've got to really know your stuff. She curves only because she messes up when making the test. Take 101
Nice lady, TERRIBLE professor. Made general chemistry for CHEM MAJORS absolutely hard and confusing, which it shouldn't be. She screwed up every single exam because she does not know how to write one. DO NOT RECOMMEND.
not a bad class. she is confusing and goes off on tangents but she really cares for her students. she says in the beginning to do the problems in the book for the test to help you prepare the best and that wasn't bad at all. Also go thru the probs and you should do well. if you like to study by urself and not go to class and do really well take it!
AWFUL!! She constantly made errors, she took forever to return papers/lab reports. There is no reason she should be teaching this class or any class. She should stick to research where she belongs, with her precious lead.
Do not take Fitch! yeah she has her pros such as you get to drop lowest test and her grading scale is very lenient, her lectures are all over the place and are confusing, she constantly messes up explaining things and doing problems, and her tests are way too long and are very hard. do not take her if you have a different choice.
She seems like a wonderful person, and having conducted an interview with her, I feel like she is an interesting and even intellectual person, but she cannot teach at all. Her lectures are in another language to the point that basic stoichiometry was a chore, and she tends to get problems wrong. For people who love teaching themselvesknow chem.
Nice lady but the most confusing lectures and the least helpful discussion sections. Gets problems wrong, goes over people's heads, has an inability to answer simple questions without raising tons of other questions. Her class isn't impossible but it's a good deal of work, and the material she tests on is not usually what she talks about in class.
Dr. Fitch is an eccentric, thus, making class interesting and fun. Very nice woman, but PowerPoints could be a bit more clear. That's why the book is a must. Office hours are extremely helpful if you have questions. Four exams, and the worst one is dropped (generous curves, too). There is a plethora of extra credit, and the homework is manageable.
Her power points and explanations don't make sense. Discussions are the only thing that really helped bc she did the math on the board so as long as you can follow it you should be fine. I usually blocked her out and just watched her write the problems. She's willing to help but she's not good at explaining anything at all ever.
Dr. Fitch is a very nice person, but she is god awful as a teacher. She turns easy concepts into rocket science. The topics in her class make no sense and I had to teach myself most of the material. A five minute youtube makes more sense than her. If you're having trouble understanding the homework, you will do poorly on the tests. AVOID!!!
She's a nice person, but she can be confusing and sometimes just doesn't explain things. Textbook is online, so it's free, but it's a bit dry and all over the place. Not a super tough grader, but you need to study. The field trips are okay-- but just go on one. And beware, we spent like 9 hours total driving in the van for our lead mine field trip.
Not helpful, I do not feel like I learned much at all from her. Constant mistakes on power points and what she says in lectures. Could never decide how she would organize the class, changing the syllabus all the time. Not clear on her expectations and even changing her instructions for assignments.
Fitch is the most confusing professor I've ever had. She makes up questions on the test that literally are impossible and can't be found in the power points or in the book. Constantly messing up on the power points. Wouldn't provide clear answers to questions. The only good thing is that she gives tons of extra credit!!!!
At first the class seemed like a piece of cake. She offered extra credit and curved. Mid semester it all went downhill. She kept changing the syllabus until the very end (from grading to scheduled lectures). She is SUPER indecisive and unclear about her grading criteria. Her lectures consist of her reading off a power point with 1000 errors. Avoid
Chem 102 is meant to be difficult and out of the all the Loyola chem profs, she's one of the better ones I've had trying to breakdown concepts with humor and analogies. Be warned: she goes fast in lectures and her tests are super tedious given the allotted time. The only way around that is practice/read the book. She allows half a cheat sheet :)
Professor Fitch is the best chem professor available here at Loyola. She curves exams like CRAZY and is very funny and sweet. The one thing I didn't like is how the last unit exam was the last day of classes. There are 4 exams and she gives extra credit and loads of points if you go to discussion which really cushions your grade.
There are 4 exams (curved fairly) and discussion for your grade. Discussion was just attendence so nice grade cushion. Exams were not too difficult if you study for the class. If she is an option I would say take her, overall you'll pass but beware she is a little unorganized and flips the slides too quickly in lecture.
A mess. Exams are curved and she gives extra credit and easy participation points for discussion. Her class is lecture heavy but her lectures are a mess that she fixes as she goes through them. Going to class confused me just as much as if I had skipped entirely. Study off her presentations (not the book!) for her tests! Passable, but avoid
bless her heart. She really is a sweet lady but she gets confused which makes her students confused. The class was fine in the beginning but after midterms, she became way more scattered brained. Overall, a nice lady and has a lot of extra credit opportunities but she hasn't told us what's on the final and it's in a week. Pray for my grade rip.
This teacher is the most disorganized professor I have ever had. Her grading scale is incredibly confusing and changes on a daily basis. Her scatterbrain antics makes lectures extremely confusing and almost inaccessible. She expects you to know concepts way outside the realm of chem102. Her "real life" examples serve no purpose. Never again.
She is a very passionate professor who cares A LOT about lead! Test are easy if you understand the material, but she teaches off of the PowerPoint slides. In discussion, you get points for showing up. She gives out extra credit! Most of her students receive a B in the class. Final is problems from old exam, pH, and the two last chapters. Good luck!
One of the most frustrating experiences of my life lol. The only grades are 4 100-point exams & 21 discussion points. No homework, no quizzes. So if you do poorly on the exams you're pretty much screwed. Allows half a cheat sheet for the exams & curves, but it's hardly enough. She's VERY disorganized & this is reflected in just about everything
Very disorganized, rushes through lectures, and spends too much time relating the material to lead and other miscellaneous things. The test average for the third test was an F and was not curved enough to help us. Super slow grader as well. Overall, the class was manageable if you worked SUPER HARD, but would not put myself through it again.
Please don't take if you can avoid it. She told our class that she was going to curve everyone's grade at the end of the semester and then totally went back on her word. VERY disorganized and did not make clear what was going to be on her final. She does give extra credit so please do it because you're going to need it.
If you really apply yourself, you will leave with a holistic knowledge of chemistry. She includes a lot of biochemistry in her lectures (which could be confusing at times) with the intent of relating the material to medicine, since most of us were pre-med. She's a very nice person who genuinely cares about her student's learning.
It is nearly impossible to get an A in this class because you need a 95% to get an A. She is a nice lady and cares about her students, which I appreciate. She overcomplicates the class and goes on tangents on random topics.
She's got a fun personality, but really really not a great professor. She is so unorganized and you never really know how you're doing in the class because she never post grades. Her lectures are so boring and hard to follow, and goes on random tangents. Gives some EC opportunity, but an A is a 93 so very hard to get.
Honestly had no idea what my grade was for the entire semester because she doesn't post grades online. Her lectures hardly make sense and revisiting the slides to learn is insane; just practice textbook problems. Also make sure to know about lead because it will show up on the exams and an extra credit essay. Shes a very sweet lady, though!
Chem 102 is going to be tough no matter who you take, but she might make it harder. She goes off on these long tangents about lead when she could be going into more detail about the material
Fitch is like the crazy professors you see in movies. Totally hairbrained, unorganized, weird, literally has no idea what she's talking about most of the time. Her class had no structure at all, I never knew when assignments were do, what lecture was going on, anything. She made us read her own book all class. I didn't read a single page. Passed.
I did not enjoy going to this class . The textbook is the one she wrote, and her grading is so subjective and it jumps all over the place. Her exams were take-home, but they ended up taking like 4-5 hours just because of the sheer length of them. I hardly read the textbook or paid attention in class, still doing just fine in the class..
Dr. Fitch is a sweet, caring older woman that knows so much about lead! (the subject of my honor204d class). she listens to student feedback, and you can get As on her take-home exams from just the textbook she wrote, just write long responses. Plus she has a great fashion style and a sense of humor, I love her.
Dr. Fitch is a very nice person, but AVOID this class at ALL COSTS. Your GPA won't suffer during this class, but you definitely will. She grades easily, but exams take 8+ hours to complete and attendance was mandatory. This class had no structure at all, and I never had any idea what was going on or what we were supposed to be learning.
I had no choice in taking this professor because literally a week before classes started they switched my professors. If I had a choice, I would definitely avoided her at all costs. This class made me more confused about lead and I had no idea what was happening in class everyday and neither did she. If you can, please take someone else.
Dr. Fitch's course was easy, but the lectures were very convoluted and only from the textbook. Classes were not engaging, and the participation assignments were unclear. You will be fine grade-wise, but you will not enjoy this course.
