His class is interesting and easy. Everything is based off readings in class and discussions. You participate and show up, you're passing. Tests are easy, all based of discussions. He provokes thought.No real homework. How ALL classes should be. I learned & retained alot. His accent can be a little difficult @ 1st,after long u wont notice it at all

So easy, Just don't miss class or be late cuz he always talks to you outside. I didn't even buy the books and I got an A. Write notes when he writes on the board. He does extra credit. Most of it is enforced on attendence. Take no other teacher than him!

Mr. T. is so sweet, and and kind. He stresses the importance of attendance, because the in class lectures are really important to the tests. If you attend, take notes, and study from there, and in groups, you are sure to pass. He really makes the class interesting, and likes the ones who are really serious about it.

Def learn a lot and retain a lot of information in his class. Wow his study guides are fantastic and a great way to look back and refresh your memory on all that you learned later. He is very understanding if you have a problem but you usually apply yourself and show up to class. The only reason he is strict on attendance is cuz he cares about you.

Awesome! etc. If you are looking for an instructor who cares whether his students understand and learn the material, and who encourages class participation/class discussions, then this prof. is for you. Just don't be late or let your cell phone ring during class-this will minimize disruptions during class lecture.

This guy is a great storyteller. The class is interesting but you must attend & BE ON TIME for sure. It is about respecting the class and him. If you attend, listen to the stories and take notes you can probably pull a B. If you actually do the study guide you'll get an A.

very easy even in his class he says it's an effort to fail the only way you can fail is by missing a test or something important you watch movies almost every week listen to the lecture which is more like a conversation or more like story telling very interesting very recommended

VERY interesting to listen to. He knows the material and you can tell hes interested in teaching it. Im not a history fan but his lectures are more like stories which make them easy to listen to and remember. Tests are easy with his study guides. Doesnt really give any homework.

This is one of City College's best professors! Very engaging, cares about students and LOVES to share stories.The study guides are really helpful. You will look at the African American history in another light after taking him! Very knowledgable and approachable a kind man with a great spirit. Gives extra points for attendance!

He is one of the best professors that city has to offer, take my word and take his class if you want to know more about black history, he shows different prospective about black people in America, its easy A if you show up on time and dont disturb the class, his study guides are very helpful

I've taken three classes with this professor and he is just awesome! I wasn't to interested in Black History but once I got in there I changed my mind on the first day! Just be on time and listen, that's all it takes he makes everything perfectly clear and understandble! He's a very nice and understanding profe also

Professor Tesfamariam is a really a great professor and person. He is one of, if not the best, professors at city. I took two of his classes and they both resonate with me to this day. I have only good things to say about this man. Nothing but love, Professor.

I just want to make a revision on the negative rating 2 entries below... I just want to say that the online class has improved tremendously. I was considering dropping, but he has really pushed through and helped me in every way. Everything is crystal clear and the material is interesting. I would definitely take him again next semester.

Awesome teacher. I learned alot taking this class. I love his teaching style. Attendace is very important beacuse you take alot of notes that are needed for test. I really enjoyed the class and I am looking forward to taking another class with him.

i took him for 140 a and b. he's a great teacher. easy a. you get extra points toward your test for good attendance. be on time to his class and don't get caught with your phone! he's a good guy. you need the textbook for class but i never used it to study, just take good notes. gives a study guide w/ ?'s from the test. loved this class.

Took the class online and learned so much. I found it to be very interesting. Yes he did disappear and sometimes he posted assignments at the last minute but I learned so much that I can't wait till next semester I am taking hime again.

Tesfarmariam is a great teacher yet very easy going professor.Strict in the beginning but relaxed near the end. I didnt like the weekly prinouts and how he stepped outside the class for some odd reasons.Exams are EASY!Barely studied for and did well.Its crazy how people do poor and complain their failure on to him.Highly recommended, no regrets.

Outstanding teacher!!!! I always left the class wanting to know more. Easy "A" if you take notes, pay attention and most of all attendance is very important. If you get a chance take Professor Tesfamariam you will not be disappointed.

Loves what he teaches, so it makes it better for students to sit through lectures;however, most of what I learned was basic U.S. history. Exams were simple and there was only one 2 page paper. I took it as a GE class, but it turned out to be a saving grace for a hectic semester, as there was not a lot to study. Rarely used the book, btw.

Great professors!! Attendance and the required printouts are parts of your grade so don?t miss his class. His tests are pretty easy if you follow the study guide that he gives out before the exams and read the chapters that he goes over. The study guides from his exams will be used for the final so keep the information. His class is an easy A

Take him if you need history or like learning not to much homework but very intriguing class.

I had Prof. T in the mid-90's for two classes & just had a serious flashback about the impact he had on my life. He is a wise man and adds value to what he teaches because of his life experience. What I learned from him awakened and transformed my world view and my role in it. If you have the opportunity, don't miss him. God Bless & Thanks Mr. T!

i ENJOYED MR.T'S CLASS. I LEARNED A LOT OF INFORMATION THAT I WAS COMPLETELY UN AWARE OF, AND HE REALLY KNOWS WHAT HE IS TALKING ABOUT. HE WANTS EVERYONE TO PASS HIS CLASS AND DOESN'T REQUIRE VERY MUCH HOMEWORK, JUST THAT YOU COME TO CLASS, PAY ATTENTION, AND DON'T DISTURB OTHER STUDENT WHO ARE REALLY TRYNG TO LEARN.

Probably one of the EASIEST courses I have ever taken!! You can buy the book if you'd like, but I went without. What's the point if everything you need is on the power points and online. If you decide to take this class you won't regret it, but if you decide to drop it you really must be that dumb to pass up one of the easiest A's you can get!!!!!!

i took his class in fall of 2014 online, 3 test and a final, all the test are out of the book, you have to watch 3 movies and answer questions about the movies, if you read the book and review the study guide before the test, you will get a A, he emails people back and is really helpful.

As stated, 3 tests, 1 final over entire semester. Some say he's responsive, but the only few questions I asked were answered days later. Sometimes you'd get an assignment on wed, sometimes thur, sometimes fri. There was no telling. But when it was assigned, instructions were simple and clear. Tests were fair, not hard. Study guides for all. Easy A.

3 test and a final, one test was not timed, all multiple-choice, every test is on 4 ch. from the book, and if you do the reading's and look over the power-point, easy A, and you watch video's and answer 10 to 15 questions on it.

Professor Tesfamariam structured the class assignments in a very organized manner which allowed me to "digest" and remember the most important points. I am taking the next class with him. I really appreciate how he teaches.

he is a great historian professor, who dedicated his job and respectful. also he is so fair when it comes teaching a history. I would recommend anyone who interesting to take a Black History not to miss his class.

His tests are really easy if you pay attention in class and he gives you a study guide. Also if you come everyday he will give you extra points on the tests it helped me out a lot because sometimes I go too fast. You kinda need the book but everything is on the syllabus.

Prof. T is a wonderful teacher. His lectures are interesting and he is passionate about the subject. Great class discussions. The tests are very easy. He is pretty straight forward and does not like when people leave during class or arrive late. Be on time, show up and participate and you will enjoy the class and probably get an A!

He is a great professor that knows black history very well. He will press you if you get out of your seat to use the bathroom. He will definitely stop his lecture if you get out of his class to use the bathroom. He will give you the first five minutes of class to use the restroom. 4 test and a lot of print outs. You get to watch films too.

He is a very good professor, I would take him again if I could. Participation and attendance matters as well as respecting your peers. He teaches to dispute and debate myths of African American people as a whole.

Your participation matters and please do not skip class you will not pass. Does not let people in class late so be on time if not come early. good professor overall

Mr. Tesfamariam is a really great teacher. Of course, when you take a History course you will have to read no matter what, so make sure you are prepared. The work is not difficult. He gives you everything you need to pass, the tests all have study guides and quizzes are mostly on videos that you will watch on YouTube and they are super interesting.

He knows his stuff and makes learning fun. Provides ppts that he uses in lectures. Study guides are provided. Watched interesting films. Textbooks are useful and are also in the library.

Seriously one of the best teachers ever! His class was really interesting and easy. Just take notes on his slides (which he provides on blackboard also) and youll pass his class. Tests are straightforward and easy. Super down to earth! Highly recommend!

Textbook is not needed since you can google most of the answer for his discussion online. Make sure to do all the discussion questions. Exams are pretty straight forward, but a little hard. My advice is do this online class with a friend and take the exams together, it will help you to get an A.

If you like history then you'll love this class, if you don't you'll probably like it anyway on account of him being a nice dude and good speaker. Throughout the semester the only work was a paper a presentation, and 4 tests. Each test had a super helpful study guide that came with it, and the paper and presentation were only graded for completion.

Mr. T was a great professor! As long as you pay attention during his lectures, and look at the slides he provides you will do great.

This was my first online class, it was fairly simple as long as you followed the assignments & watched the videos. I took him for 140A & he was a great professor so I decided to take him online in the summer. I got an A and he provides study guides for each test which are very helpful.

10/10 RECOMMEND! His lectures are AMAZING! by far best teacher I've had thus far! I wish he taught humanities. he doesn't give homework, all he asks is that you bring printouts. treat him with respect and he will do the same. one thing to know is that he will not accept people walking in and out of the class during lecture, so prepare for that.

Great teacher for in-class lectures, not so great for online. His tests are a little difficult. Must read book & do study guide to get a good grade for online (COVID19) His material will allow for a diff perspective than traditional HS. Some answers to tests can be found online. Only allows one attempt. Class discussions are simple. Easy honor cred

I recently took this class for 4 weeks and you have to expect a lot of work within a short amount of time. He makes his own test questions but he gives study guides that definitely help. A very interesting class, it wasn't boring at all. I'd recommend this class to anyone.

I love taking Prof Alazar's classes. Always insightful, inspiring, and definitely a learning experience. He is non-complicated and very caring. The subject matters are very needed education for the majors. I would recommend him as a go to teacher for all Black Studies classes he teaches.

This professor assigns extensive readings and long tests. You need two books and face frequent quizzes. While he provides study guides, they are lengthy. Expect delayed email responses and constant discussions instead of essays. It's a challenging class, but not the worst.

A genuinely nice guy who is willing to work with you. All tests and lectures are based on his PowerPoints, which you don't have to take notes on because he gives you them on Canvas. The final assignment is due at the end of the semester and isn't even graded; it's submitted or not submitted (pass or fail). The class is almost impossible to fail.

super easy to reach outside of class and always replied fast. the class structure was a little messy sometimes so keeping track of deadlines was a struggle. tons of quizzes with a lot of questions, but they're all straight from the readings and videos so just do the work and you'll be fine.
