Don't know what he wants
He tends to vacillate in his lectures. Gradingwise, he is difficult. The most you can get on his essays are "B+'s."
Excellent teacher. I Learned more than in any other English course.
hard for an english professor, and wants oral presentations
Don't know what he wants, critical
He is the worse english teacher I even had.
He seems really nice at the begining but then he turns out kinda mean toward the end. All of my friends, including me, got a D from that class (so not fair b/c we all did our hw) dont know why he is mean to give us a D *_*
His a very good teacher and a very good discussion teachers as well!!
gave too many Ds

He's pretty un-organized, changes his syllabus too many times, no extra credit. Not accessible during office hours and gets made if there's a lot of students wanting to access him during office hours. Gave so much reading material that was of no or litt
I like him. He's pretty nice and he's cute too. ^_-
I think he's an awesome teacher, discussion is fine as long as you read. He's always willing to help with essays and is really approachable. He comes across as someone that would be cool to hang out with outside of class.
albert anthony is a really cool laid back easy teacher. gave 4 essays and 1 final and i got A's on all of them. participation is 20% of the grade so show up to class and say stuff. how can anyone get a D they must be dumb. watched some good films too.
great teacher, always willing to help, alot of group reading discussion which gets kind of boring after a while.
Most interesting english class i've ever had cause we basically talked about pop culture and commercials the whole time. Nice guy who is a fair grader, but the group discussions we had were very boring.
this class was so chilled and laid back; watched a bunch of commercials and videos; cool teacher; grades prty lenient; bottom line, i didnt read and just showed up 2 class and got an A
I had a very bad experience with him. He apparently had some bad feelings towards me and I picked up the impression right away. He was never smiling or encouraging when I visited him during office hours.
He acts like he does not like you, but I think that's just the way he looks. Go to his office hours and at least pretend you care about the class. I got through with a B+.
awesome teacher, really easy, really nice.
He was really helpful and easy to talk to.
whats up anthony! he is a great teacher and a great person. Very helpful! If you find him bad then there must be some**** wrong with you. *corrects grammer* neways, very good teacher and laid back like what the other guys said.
Very laid back, comfortable environment. Encourages discussion, but doesn't force it. Helpful and approachable
extremely helpful during office hours. if you seek him out, your papers will improve greatly. if you work hard, an A is definitely possible.
DO NOT PICK HIM IF YOU DONT LIKE GOING TO OFFICE HOURS.he likes to be worshiped upon. if you dont go to his office hour then your game over. very bad teacher
he was my favorite! he was so much fun and so nice to everyone--i loved taking his class
he's so nice and cute, i loved going to his class. he's not really that hard if you participate, and once he knows your name class seems easier. i didn't go to office hours though...
Nice, he understands your situations. go to classes. and do your homework. dude. so much homework... seriously. little quizes every friday based on your homework.
He is very very helpful teacher. If you really want to learn english!!? pick him!
he is an awesome teacher.. other than his office hours, he spend some time to help his students..
Great teacher and very helpful when it comes to essay, his classes aren't that difficult but you have to read cuz there are quizzes! but other than that hes an awesome teacher
He grades really hard on essays! Class was boring. He doesn't seem very approachable and assigns too much reading. Don't bother turning in late papers bcuz he takes 50% off so you'll get a fail anyway.
Albert is an excellent professor. It is evident that he spends a lot of time writing comments on essays. Show him your essay during office hours. That will really boost your grade. My essay writing really improved after taking his class.
He's very sarcastic.
Talks most of the time during class. Boring for some students, but interesting for others, depending on who you are. If you go to office hours, he's not going to fix your essay by writing comments. HE'LL TELL YOU WHAT YOU NEED, SO YOU'LL HAVE TO FIX IT ON YOUR OWN. It's tough, but I think that's the best way for you to learn the material.
He takes role, gives a quiz(every other class session) and lectures most of the time which could get boring. extremely sarcastic when he is asked a dumb question. His lectures dont really help with the essays you write. Allows some rewrites but generally he grades chill. Read the Books!
Figured he would be just another boring english prof. I was wrong. We read three novels throughout the quarter that related (some more than others) to the three types of papers we wrote: a remembered event essay, a profile, and a concept explanation essay; each of which were about 6/7 pages long.Funny guy, knows what he is talking about.
He is really helpful, willing to talk to you about ideas for papers, helps you with drafting. He puts a lot of time in helping you. Go to office hours!
Horrible, so much homework. Not worth it. I regret taking his class so much.
too much HW essay prompt will be given the day before rough draft
Tough grader. Very rare to get an A on an essay. Each essay is 6 pages long. Wastes a lot of class time talking about irrelevant things and making "sarcastic" comments that I didn't find too hilarious.
Very good teacher funny and very caring, assigns good books for the English class and although his grading is difficult it is helpful and consistent. It may not be an easy A but it's an enjoyable class
Go to his office hours! He is willing to help if you make the effort. Although his lectures can get boring at times, he explains everything well. Do well on the essays because it pretty much determines whether or not you pass.
Toughest class I took, I worked so hard and got an A-. Papers are so long and require a lot of concentration and effort. He gives amazing advice and is willing to speak with you in office hours as long as you need. To some, his lectures are boring but interesting to those who like discussingdebating relevant issues on life. Again very tough grader
Firstly, this guy is hilarious. His sense of humor made the class somewhat fun and interesting. He also is very helpful with understanding the readings and improving your writing. There are short pop quizzes so it's imperative to do the readings and come to class; with that you'll do fine in the class.
Albert does a great job of teaching English 1A. He has three essays spread throughout the quarter, each he spends a fair amount of time giving you information on writing the paper and actually writing it. He definitely is a tough grader and to get an A in this class you have to work exceptionally hard. Nice person, tough professor.
Great professor. Main focus are on the three essays and three books. Very helpful during office hours and very open to different ideas on the essays. I had an exceptionally quiet class so him asking questions and trying to start a discussion felt forced and awkward. Get the pdfs of the first two books and buy the third (you need it for the final).
Amazing professor! Hes really helpful especially if you go to his office hours. He really wants to see his students succeed. He focuses on the 3 essays the entire quarter and theres random quizzes on the reading but overall, its not a hard class. Plus hes really funny.
Pop quizzes almost everyday. Read all the material. The professor is very nice, but he grades very hard. There a lot of papers. He doesn't give you a lot of time to write.I got low A's on all my papers and got an A- (NOT FAIR). Work hard and READ. You can pass the class with a B+ and higher. The tutor was very helpful that they offered for 1PA.
He just gave out worksheets on sentence structure. No real essay help unless you clear your schedule for office hours. He wont extend office hours to another day if you cant make it. This was one of the hardest english professors ive had. Pop quizzes everyday. If you dont participate, dont expect anything more than a C
He is a very caring professor, just be wary of the reading quizzes as he expects you to read! He is a tough grader however offers thoughtful feedback and helps during his office hours! He is willing to help and improve your writing.
Class lectures are mostly boring. When giving out assignments, he makes it hard to comprehend. It is required to do a lot of reading/writing assignments, and most of the time does not even collect them. Participation/attendance is mandatory.
He honestly is a really great professor and helps you improve a lot. takes time to get back to you quickly and help you out if you're stuck. just be ready to read different things and have a lot of homework.
During Covid. He's really nice, tries to make jokes during class, and even showed us his parrot. There can be a lot of work sometimes but it's all to help you prepare for essays. He can be a harsh grader but gives good feedback(you can ask him to explain it in office hours). You can tell he really wants you to improve and readings are not boring.
He was an amazing professor! He cares a lot about the success of his students. If youre confused he has extra meetings to talk about anything you need. He tries to make class fun and makes jokes. Provides a lot of groupwork, and tips to improve writing essays and understand readings. Grading is hardish but fair! And find the textbook free online:)
He is a very strict grader, but an amazing professor and a good guy overall. If you attend his office hours he really helps you and makes sure you do well on your next essay. Homework and reading heavy!
Poor grader.
If you want to pass the class with an A then going to office hours and discussing how to make your paper more concise and thorough will help you a lot. He is incredibly helpful, easy to talk too, and gives lots of input to make you think about your papers. Overall, pretty cool guy and good teacher.
Very good professor. He gives students very useful feedback on papers, is a fair grader and is very easy to talk to. There is quite a bit of reading but not on anything too complicated. There are also occasional quizzes on readings but as long as you understand the concepts it shouldn't be difficult. Definitely a good, caring professor.
Boring, tough grader, terrible feedback, gives a lot of busywork for no reason. Bragged about assigning work over a break.
He is such a kind and caring teacher and always tells us he is available to help us at any time!
This professor is really tough and strick on grading. I see the highest grades of essays are just 80s. It is really hard to pass and giving student a hard time. Also there are always pop quiz in the class that takes heavy percentage to the grade. There is no reminder before a quiz and it is FRQ kind of questions. I would never take his class again.
Assigns a lot of reading, and gives pop quizzes on them. His prompts are pretty vague so make sure to go to OH or ask him in class more questions about the prompt. He does a great job of explaining what he wants in the essays in his lectures so much sure you listen and take notes. No textbook is required.
He's very caring, he answers questions and you can tell that he does his best to help students. Always give GREAT feedback on papers and a very reasonable grader. Only one book was required and it was fun to read. 100% would take again
he is one of the most genuine professors/teachers I've ever had, he takes the time to make you feel engaged and explain everything you need to know for the essays. He's always willing to help students and is the fairest grader ever, he leaves voice recordings feedback for every essay, honestly, he is a great professor and I would take his class.
I went to every class and did every assignment to the best of my ability and he still failed me. This teacher is a joke. He is super bias toward his students. If he doesn't like your opinons, he will make sure to make your quarter worse then hell. Stay away from this guy. He grades super harshly.
Although he grades super low compared to other professors, he's a totally hands on teacher. I recommend sitting in front if the class cause then, you'll be compelled to engage! It'll feel like a conversation rather than a lecture. In my class, he gave out homework almost every meeting (tuesdays and thursdays) so it's meh but overall, he's good!
He's a good professor overall who gave good feedback after each essay. I feel like he really helped me and he gave a lot of lessons during class that were helpful. Definitely recommend him, he does give a good amount of homework but nothing you can't handle.
You'll have to read in his class but the books tend to be interesting. He provides feedback on your work and is easy to talk to in general.
He was a really great professor who also had a caring side to him. He always tried to make class welcoming with his personality. The work load for this class was a lot i wont lie, but tbh what english class doesnt have a lot to do. The books we read for his class were also interesting so thats a plus.
He's not the easiest professor, but he is a great teacher and works with students on their essays.
He's a good professor that gives good feedback, but generally speaking essays are just graded harder. I thought I was the only one doing bad but apparently the whole class had around the same grade as me.
This professor will kill your GPA. Probably the toughest grader of essays, he's biased too. I sent the exact same essay to another professor in the eng department and he said he would give me an A for it, Anthony gave be a C+. Goes to show what kind of professor he is.
His class was pretty tough, ngl. He does, however, put a lot of effort into giving feedback on essays. The only real issue I have is the way he grades homework assignments. He takes off sm unnecessary pts with little to no feedback. If you want a challenge, take him; if not, I strongly I advise you not to.
This class isn't easy if you're not good at writing essays like me. I stressed a lot because he overcomplicated the explanations of what was expected on the essay. He does assign a lot of group work in class that do help with writing essays, they do help as an additional resource.
He gave his homework ahead of time and we did lots of group work, but I felt as if I didn't learn much or develop new writing skills to feel prepared for the next class. There were about 2-3 readings due before class and short quizzes. The quizzes were okay if you did the reading. He grades really hard for essays though.
Funny and helpful professor! Homework:Weekly reading (about 3-8 pages) articles; Pop Quizzes:Assigns pop quizzes occasionally (4-5 quizzes in quarter),but they are not a surprise! He posts a course schedule on Canvas for every class meeting, so you can check what you will do in-class ahead of time. Essays:3 essays total; Exams:no exams just essays.
Great professor. I had to retake this course because of a previous teacher I had which helped with nothing. But I retook this class and I chose this professor. He is so much more different and caring about our education. As long as you do all of the readings and go to office hours you'll do great. Definitely recommend.
If you want to get a "B" or above, do not take him. Ngl, not worth at all to go to his class.
This professor gives a lot of difficult text which can be difficult to understand. He does struggle to explain subjects in a way that is difficult to understand. Unless you enjoy group projects and difficult text, I do not recommend it.
Besides his grading, he is a nice and funny professor. About 25+ pages of reading a week, and your essays are based on these readings. He grades extremely hard, no clear criteria, no clear rubric, and even admits that he and his department grades on such a RIGID scale. My avg grade for each essay was like a C+, keep that in mind... Don't take...
Professor Anthony honestly is a nice teacher. Super chill and funny. He provides very valuable feedback and makes sure everyone is enjoying the class. However, man's a VERY tough grader. On the first essay I got a 91% and averaged a 89% on the rest and got a B+. Idk who can average a 95% on essays and pull an A(a). Be aware of that.
A bunch of stuffs assigned to read, quite a looooot! If you are not stuck on reading, this guy is not for you. By the way, his grade system is ridiculous, with prompts insanely hard to read and you are never able to achieve a B or above.....
hes was honestly super caring and funny. took him fall'23 and I was going through it that time and he allowed me to turn in my essays late for that reason. I HATE English and I HATE essays but he made me at least tolerate English which is saying a lot. he doesn't grade super difficult, but still make your best effort. there is a lot of reading
I registered for 1b and once i saw his name, immediate drop. His gradings are harsh, many people got weird points for a 2 points hw assignment, like 1.72, 1.56 or like 0.98. I just don't get why, the hw are worth so little. He's very biased too. I don't get what's the point for taking off points like that.
He only gives good grades if he sees you as a "good" student. This guy is the most two-faced person I've ever met. He acts nice, but he's actually really petty. If he's biased against you, of course, your essay won't get a fair grade.
Avoid him. I felt as if my writing skills progressed BACKWARDS. He has no clear grading criteria, and his explanations are so incoherent that it's concerning. He should just retire because he adds absolutely nothing to this department. Just for reference, I excelled in the next English classes without taking any of his advice.
Love him for my English 1B! Yes, he grades comprehensively, and you need to read the class materials. However, he will give you extremely well taught lectures and feedbacks on your essay when they are submitted. You also have a chance to improve your essay with his feedback, and receive refined grades. I am loving his class, and I highly recommend!
do not take this class. He grades such a tough grader and doesn't give anything above a c+. He expects growth but makes 2/4 essays timed... so we don't even get time to revise our essays. His class is so hard and gives so much reading every week. He gives 20-30 + pages of pdf reading and expects us to know it well for our essays.
if I were to go back to go back in time, I would've dropped the class or had a completely different professor. he clearly has favorites and if you are not one of them, he will grade you very harshly and not give you the time of day. if you want to have a good quarter, do yourself a favor and don't take this professor.
AVOID THIS CLASS!!!!!!! He takes of random points with no explanation. The reading is very long almost 20-30 + pdf pages. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!
Overall he was a good professor though the class was hard by nature. He gives good feedback, but some of it isn't helpful. Not sure if he does this all the time but he allowed my class to do essay revisions. He has a good sense of humor and is pretty forgiving. Office hours are useful but can be fairly packed.
I had this professor a while ago, but after taking the other English courses after ENG 1A, I realized he made this class unnecessarily hard and confusing. His grading criteria and explanations were so unclear compared to my other English professors. My writing skills have improved exponentially, thanks to my other English professors—not him.
If you want to not learn about English, take his class. he is so unforgiving and does not care about his students. His lectures were so boring and he had a tone that screamed sarcasm. Do not take him
Absolutely a gar. bage teacher
He sucks tbh. He is so sarcastic and goes on random yapping sessions to the point where he can't finish what he was trying to teach. He is constantly talking about how grades should not exist yet is such a harsh grader? He prepares no alternatives for people who can't attend class and does not seem to care about that.
