Doesnt collect homework and is very helpful when it comes to helping you with your work.

GREAT TEACHER ASSIGNS HOMEWORK DOESN'T COLLECT BUT I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU DO IT BECAUSE TEST PROBLEMS ARE FROM YOUR HOMEWORK OR ALOT LIKE YOUR HOMEWORK PROBLEMS JUST DIFFERENT NUMBERS
This is a great class for you non math lovers! he has 4 test not including the final and lets you drop on of them.He is a GREAT TEACHER!! He is very helpfull and very open to questions if you have any and will help you out. He explains everything so well. do your homework the class will be easier
This is my second time taking math with Mr.Aviles. He knows the material well and will take time to explain it to you step by step. He helps you understand why you got the answer. During and after working a problem he will ask "Any Questions?" Which gives you an opportunity to ask. So ask.
he 's a very good teacher
Very good teacher! Explains very well. Don't be afraid to ask questions because he really wants you to understand. Homework doesn't have to be turned in but do it anyways. The homework is the test! Reviews the day before the test and lets you ask any questions over homework (very helpful)!
good teacher just confussing sometimes
REALLY CONFUSSING TEACHER.
He goes very, very fast in explaning! He is confusing. He will ask if anyone has "questions" He puts formulas on the tests.
All I can say is that our class average was a 62. I retook the accuplacer and tested out of his class and 0302 and dropped his class.
He's not a bad guy and he knows what he's talking about-BUT HE GOES TOO DAMM FAST!It's hard to ask him a question, when we don't even know what he's doing in the first place!Everyone in my class is confused. He needs to slow it down a bit. He's always talking about how he's ready2take a nap-maybe that's why he goes so fast. ???
He does explain things fast, but only b/c no one will ask questions. otherwise he would slow down. your tests are off your homewrk. He takes time to show step by step and if you find him hard and that he cant explain well, then you arent going to get through college algebra b/c he is one of the easiest teachers.
The professor is a nice guy although he does teach fast, he does stop for questions to explain a matter. Many in my class failed his 2nd test, making a 46% average!! The highest was a 76%! I dropped his course but i intend to take him again bc he's thorough and precise but u have to keep up with the guy!!!
He explains problems way to fast. At times we caught some very minimal errors like a (-), or a (+), sign incorrectly written. If anyone is struggling with math I don't recommend. Although in his test he wrote some of the formulas. So you decide. He was defeniately not for me!
i like the way he teaches
I took this course over the internet and it was extremely difficult for me. All you get are the test dates and the chapters they cover. No reviews, no extra credit, no correspondence other than an attendance email. I don't know how this teacher teaches in person, but if you struggle with math, don't take this teacher over the internet.
This guy teaches CRAZY fast! If you're not good in math or if its been a while since your last math class, dont take him.He assigns a lot of homework and if you do it then youre fine, but you really do need the book. The book is basically what teaches you because he really doesnt. He doesnt teach you easier methods either. Very sloppy work on board
Look,im not going to exaggerate.I did ok in the class, and he's not wicked. But he is NOT a good teacher.I only did well when i had some previous knowledge of the material. He takes off too many crap points&is very inconsistent. If ur good @ math cool, if not-don't take him.I'm an honors student and I got screwed over.
jus do the hw's and you will get a A in the class....
I took this class because I thought he would be a helpful professor... ummmm...no. He was not. As others have said, he goes extremely fast through the material and he does not give reviews on the test...at least nothing helpful. I think most of my classmates disliked him (to put it lightly). If you do take the class, DO THE HOMEWORK and good luck..
Just make sure you box in your answers and put the equal signs in the begining, otherwise he'll take off points. That was one of the reason why I failed his first test. Then on the 2nd test I put the stupid equal signs and got points taken off because "they already had it". Complete bull. He is very inconsistant. Try Diaz or R. Martinez instead
I responded to an email he sent and forgot to put my name and section number (because I put it on the original email and I figured he could still see that) and responded sarcastically and refused to answer the question unless I included that info. Don't expect respect from students if you don't give it to students.
Good teacher, rally cares about the stdent easy to follow
Great teacher, bends over backwards if you ask him to. Great at explaining, and lets you know exactly what he expects. Take good notes, and ask questions and you can easily pass with an A. He even drops your lowest test grade. 4 tests, and the final with lowest test dropped. Would definitely take again.
Mr.Aviles was a really good teacher. He does everything step by step. There will never be something on a test that hasn't been reviewed. He will do his best to help you. Just ask. I didn't pass his class with an A but had I reviewed more on my own I would have gotten an A.
Took him online. He was horrendous as an online instructor. Did not return emails concerning exams until AFTER the exams. Took off points for instructions that he refused to clarify, said that info was for on campus classes. Told me he was against online math classess. Class average, 47. And this was the remedial class 0303!
Mr. Aviles was not a good teacher at all. He is not structured and he is not helpful. He did not explain it to me very well even when I went to his office for help. He is all over the place when he teaches. If you need structure, DO NOT
Mr. Aviles is an excellent instructor. He tries to make his explanation very visual, especially in very difficult courses. He is very easy to understand, but will clarify if you are having trouble. I strongly recommend him, keep in mind your grade depends on how much effort you put into it.
Good teacher.Goes through everything step by step, he does not asume you know the material. As long as you go to class and do your "homeworks" as he says, you will be alright. He also has a clear and lound voice (very importent). And box your answers!
ok better than most
This teacher is fast & for the most part good but taking him for 302 during the summer is difficult. He gives 4 grades during the class, all tests, you can drop 1. I failed the 1st test so I had to drop.
He was HORRIBLE and Mean. I dropped his class; switched to a different professor b/c of him. The reason for that is on the SECOND day of class he not only made everyone leave 10mins after class was suppose to end, but he even threated to drop a student b/c that student was going to leave to get to their next class. NOT COOL AT ALL. made them late
He counts off for skipping steps. My first test I got 1 problem wrong, but I got a 71 because of the steps I skipped. I skip steps, mainly because I do them in my head. He is a stickler when it comes to showing all work and all steps. But he is a very good teacher.
This teacher is not good at all. He only goes over the examples in the book. It's hard to learn when he's teaching so fast! Dont take him!
be sure to box ur answers!!
NOT AS BAD AS WHAT U READ....HOWEVER PLEASE DUE MAKE SURE U BOX UR ANSWERS!! I FINALLY LEARNED AFTER MY SECOND TEST .... HES BETTER THAN MOST!!!!
he is very nice but very strict, both on and off the test field. he goes to fast, and getting the right answer doesn't even matter. he told us he wasn't a mathematician whatever that means. I failed the class but i'm not venting at all. he's a good man who loves spongebob.
Awesome instructor! I have been out of school for seven years, came back and got an A. Pay attention and do your homeworks...
He is a great professor, he is orgnized and never losses track, he will help you if you ask for. You must attend class and do the homework, like in any other math class, otherwise you are not going to make it. I will take him again.
THIS TEACHER WAS PRETTY EASY. I TOOK HIM FOR A SUMMER SESSION WHICH I WOULDNT RECOMMEND BUT I MANAGED TO PASS THE CLASS ANYWAY. HE WAS REALLY HELPFUL EVEN THOUGH HE HAD TO TEACH FAST. JUST MAKE SURE YOU BOX YOUR ANSWERS.
i hated this class! he teaches to fast and expects you to get it right away! hated it!! but yea i failed his class..and yea BOX UR ANSWERS!
Aviles is okay, he goes a little fast and sometimes complicates the problems more than needed, but other than that he's a decent professor, and actually likes what he's doing. I'd recommend him if you're a little slow with math and don't get it.:)
He's gd he knows he's stuff. he's very clear, overall a gd teacher
Very helpful and patient. He'll only go over the examples in the book when he starts a lesson. Prof. Aviles will go a little fast, be warned. Take advantage of the SLAC lab as well if you're horrible at math like me :)
He is not very helpful he said he is only teachin to get paid. Very intiminating to ask questions maked you feel stupid. I would not reccomend him.
He is not a very good teacher. He makes you afraid to ask questions. He will speak loud then speak softly to where you can barely hear. All in all not very good.
This teacher is quite good. He made algebra much easier to learn than the book did. If you are there to sit in the back & goof off; he will not be too patient with you. If you are there to learn, he is a great teacher.
His teaching ethnics are not good he has mentioned two times already he is only there to get paid does not care if yu pass or not it is not easy passing his class when he goes to fast and does not care. He is very robotic he is not there to care about his job he is only there to get paid like he told my class if you do not enjoy your job quit!!!!!
I've never felt so cheated. Took online class. Prof. only communicates with a monthly email to students enrolled to let them know that he "is still actively participating in the course." You must email him weekly for attendance or you will be dropped. He does not collect homework but will not answer emailed questions.
This is my second semester with this professor and I hope he teaches 0302. All of his lectures are straight from the book, and he makes sure to review thoroughly before each test. The average for his course is taken from each test, and homeworks are optional. If you attend, you'll pass.
Well, let's just say this class was not a walk in the park. I had to earn every bit of my B. You are basicly your own teacher on his Online class. His 1st three test are hard, but if you study the 3 tests his final is right off of them. He doesn't drop a grade but, he will replace your lowest grade with your final if it's to your advantage. ok clas
He's a nice guy as a person but I would not take him again. He's very fast paced.... This class is not easy! I did my homework, studied, and got tutoring and I barely passed the class. Get the book because it is mandatory!
This professor is usefull, he sarcastic and WILL make you look like a idiot in front of the class, but its funny because students get embarrassed his homework is optional but i would do it bc thats where all HIS TEST are from. overall pretty good professor would take him Again :)
teach from book and write every single example and more on board. His way of teaching is very good.you will earn your grade, but make sure you come on time and don't miss any of his class.
He's a great professor and he really knows how to teach. He teaches straight from the book. Just do your homework, you don't turn it in but is used as a study guide. Some of the same HW questions are on the test. He stresses HW for a reason I got an A so need for complaints!
He is a great teacher! I hate math of all levels but he made it fun and easy to understand. He makes it clear if you have ANY questions to ask if not he assumes you get it and will move right along. If you have questions ask him! Do your homeworks! Test come from the homeworks!! Would take another class taught by this teacher!
I liked him as a teacher. He was very clear in his examples and made sure that you undersood before he moved on. His tests are from the homework (not graded) and so is the final. Make sure to box your answers.
He is an outstanding instructor! I used to HATE math with a PASSION, and now I'm a math major...go figure! He really knows his stuff and goes over the steps as if it's foreign to his students. And on the plus side, he's HILARIOUS :) Go to class, pay attention, and practice, and you'll ace ANY of his courses!
HORRIBLE.....If your taking a online class. He refuses to help you at all. He doesn't tell you what your grades are. With only 1 week left in the class. I still have no Idea what my grades are. Even after emailing and asking for them.
Do not take this professor for an online course! Algebra is easy, this guy is not. He is not interactive in the course and the exam layout is poorly written. You spend half your time trying to figure out what part of the question you're missing. Yes, the questions stem from the HW, but you are given little time for a lot of problems.
Even though. He docent collect homework do it the problems are on the test.
If you are thinking to take this professor just to get an easy A do not do it cause you arent gonna get it. I took this class this summer 2 and had to drop it cause I wasnt gonna pass it. Also, when we took the 1st test, he did not give us the grades until the day we took the second test. Three tests worth 75% and final was 25%. NO EXTRA CREDIT.
Mr. Aviles is an excellent teacher. He doesn't play around with non-sense, and he is a step-by-step professor. Homeworks are not mandatory/gradeable, and the tests are easy. Highly recommend him if you are SERIOUS about learning math.
Honestly he is a nice guy but I would not take this class if you are rusty or not good at math. He went fast and didn't require homework. For me, that didn't work because I just never did anything. If you already know your stuff this class would be a breeze but if you don't I'd take someone else.
would follow the exact same examples that are in the book, not a bad professor just not the greatest either. LOTS of home work, and Lab required, if you really want to understand why, don't take him he only uses the book and doesnt get into detail
great professor. pretty friendly , willing to help you. reviews before exam
Took his class online, very easy just do the online homework which you will have to register for it has examples for tests on there but you will have to go to SLAC to take his test no calculators either, you must check in every Monday or else he will count you absent it's easy though didnt really ask him for help
He was a good in-class teacher, explained what he taught on a day to day basis and made sure everyone was following along. His lack of knowledge of connect math was a little concerning but the only negative point i can make. He was always helpful and explained things in a way that was VERY easy to follow for someone of any level of math knowledge
BAD TEACHER DO NOT TAKE He does not care about his student straight up said he didn't care as long as he gets paid doesn't care to explain things was always angry complained about everything and didnt really teach just read he textbook which is not helpful what so ever
I had to drop this class. Actually half the class drop. He is very boring, i fell asleep in his class. His rude when you ask questions. He explains the answer, "Because that's the way it is."
Ask for help, and he will help you!
Attendance is mandatory. Tardiness is not an issue though. His lectures and instructions were helpful. Easy to understand.
He is a good teacher i give him that obviously if i passed with a B just make sure to ask him any questions if you have any plus he will ask like there is no tomorrow if you do. Also be familiar with connect math because thats what most of your homework is going to be on. Other then that don't skip class, do your homework and you should be ok.
I took him online and he never posted any of our grades on canvas. He replied to my emails only once, he also makes you email him every week for attendance purposes. Gives you so much homework, quizzes and test to be completed and due the next week.
Not helpful, doesn't respond to questions about specific problems. doesn't post any lecture slides for you to look at, you literally teach yourself on connectmath. doesn't keep you updated on your class grade only tells you what connect math grade is worth. inbox him once a week for attendance
Awful, awful, awful!!!! He never responds to emails. When he actually sends emails the information provided is always incorrect. Towards the end of the semester he sent an email trying to change the grading scale from what was stated in syllabus. Has a problem using correct verbs as well. "Was" and "thus" seem to be staples in his vocabulary.
Horrible teacher. Does not care if you need help, gives smart replies back. Makes students feel dumb. He will not give extra credit. Would not take his class again.
Professor Aviles was very energetic and made this class fun! There are 4 tests and 1 final. If you do his test reviews and make an 80 or better you receive 5 bonus points on your test. Also, he drops your lowest test grade. I highly recommend anyone to take him for any math class!
SAVE YOUR TIME & MONEY DO NOT TAKE ANY OF HIS COURSES He is by far, the worst. Doesn't work at your pace, rambles, & sucks at explaining things. I only used my textbook because he is absolutely no help. I don't know how he got this job or how he still has it. The test he creates are filled with errors (& I MEAN TONS) making it even worse.
Took him a while back he is excellent, now I'm taking differntial equations I took it with a friend and we were both competing, we always got over 95 an above. Easy A if you put effort and the time, don't be lazy.
I would not take his class again. He talks so fast and when we ask him to slow down he literally slows down for a bit but speeds up again. He made me feel belittled & I hardly ever asked him for help.
He is very about showing late yet he is often late himself majority of the time. He is not very considerate for why a student might be late but rather makes you feel belittled for showing up late. I showed up late twice and he said he was not going to allow me to sign in next time. Do not recommend taking if you do not want to feel attacked.
Although this class is extremely easy, it does in fact require a lot of studying, if you study the homework's you'll ace the tests and if you study the tests you'll ace the final. You never use the textbook and he reads directly off of the power point slides, this class is an easy A as long as you study
DO NOT take him if possible avoid his class. Horrible with communication. I got a 68 in his class just 2 points shy of a 70 to pass this class. I tried emailing him to see if there was anyway to make up some of my grades just get it to a 70. I emailed him. texted him & went to his office during business hours & he avoided me at ALL cost. SMH
Took an online class with him and its not that the courses were hard...I just couldnt access the modules on Aleks for about a week I emailed him I assume he didnt get any because I never got a response. Then tried to ask for a make up test or extra credit and that wasnt an option he offered
Do not take him he is awful. He is the most unorganized prof. He takes weeks to grade and is awful to listen to. He reads off of slides but attendance is mandatory. He gives out keys to the homework before tests but a lot of his answers on it are wrong. Overall he is awful
Class is easy as long as you take notes and understand the criteria. Online course is better because you can get examples after example if you dont understand. Many assignments but plenty of time to complete with far due dates. Graded automatically and allows for you to try again, amount of times varies on the assignment. Attendance once a week!
worst professor ever, literally just reads off the outdated powerpoint and takes a million years to grade a single problem... i didn't get my first test grade back until a month after I took it. grading criteria is so unclear . hated this guy
This Professor gives students a lot of independence to get their work done. Email updates on when tests are due. Pretty responsive. Not stressful. Would take again.
This is an easy class to get an A. However, he is a PowerPoint teacher. He reads the slides verbatim and then moves on. Not too much actual teaching, but again, this class is not difficult to get a good grade.
