hes pretty funny, straight forward, puts notes on blackboard and shuts up the retarded kid that always opens his mouth. its a pretty good laugh. test are mad eash.
Best prof Ive had yet. Actually responds to emails. Keeps class up to date. Makes fun of annoyances.
Excellent professor. Makes subject material very clear.
Very good teacher who make topics clear and interesting.
Very easy to understand. He's a textbook teacher.
I don't know about you but this guys is ridiculous, he goes over his notes on the screen, superfast, so you can't rite it all down, and worst of all, he doesn't have notes on blackboard(took it last semester) and his grading curve is ridiculos
he's notes suck, too fast... and he put me to sleep EVERYDAY!!!
Actually knows how to teach. Uses overhead notes, posts notes on blackboard, easy to understand, and tests are not that difficult. Very organized makes it easier class!
He's a pretty funny guy, and his teaching methods are great. His tests however are difficult for an intro class, and he is a bit sarcastic. He will respond to your emails though and is fast to answer any questions you have.
His tests and exams are tricky , if u study your ass off u may get an B , i dont think noone ever gets an A GRADE
basicly suckssss, he dont help students at all, i dont know who is writing these stupid comments about he is great....bunch of b.s , he might be writing it him self...He is the one offered us to rate him here, right???
he is blah, i hate going to class and he cant teach.
His tests suck and his class is boring as hell. He seems like a nice guy though- he's not horrible. His tests suck (I needed to emphasize that)
there wasn't a day when no one feel asleep. His tests are hard because his lecture is insanely boring. AVOID if possible
Really nice guy, pretty clear, notes online
are you guys really that stupid?class is pretty easy. tests are little tricky, because ask for some details. Great speed in the class, great teaching. The notes are on Blackboard before the class. Not too diffucult to get A.
easiest class ive ever taken, only went to class for the tests and got an A no prob, easy tests
Good Prof. Good class. Can get atleast B+ pretty easily, work a bit harder for the As.
Hard exams. Strict grading.
OK THIS CLASS WAS HARD I DONT KNOW WHAT EVERYONE IS TALKING BAOUT SAYING IT IS EASY HIS TESTS ARE IMPOSSIBLE I WENT TO EVERY CLASS TOOK NOTES READ AND STUDIED AND GOT A C AVOID HIM AT ALL COSTS!!!!!
reading was unnecessary cause tests were based on notes. lots od Id questions and 2 short essays. No attendance, however, he still knows who you are so showing up wouldn't hurt. Prof is very nice, understanding*, helpful and even funny. I got the impression that he cares about his students.

the reading is pretty boring...dont take this class at 8:20 am you will fall asleep....you do need to read and go to class
AT FIRST I THOUGHT HE WUZ AN IDIOT BUT THEN HE STARTED BECOMING A GOOD TEACHER. U MUST STUDY FOR HIS TEST AND READ. HE BARELY ANSWERS ?S BUT HE IS SMART. ATTENDANCE IS NOT REQUIRED BUT RECOMMENDED. I DIDNT FALL ASLEEP. SO HE IS OK WITH ME. TAKE HIM! TEST ARE NO JOKE THOUGH, STUDY!
Not an easy class, if you don't read or go to class. Smart guy; fair but strict grading. Notes on blackboard before class.
thinks he's god's gift to political science, generally a meanie. class is easy yet very boring. only take it if you need it for the major, otherwise it's a waste of time.
I came out learning a lot about politics, but not necessarily b/c of the prof. I missed a total of about a month and a half of class and got an A; it was my easiest class. Seceret: read the book.
VERY BORING GUY. Tests, I didn't know what to expect. Remember lectures and read the book. He was so boring i didn't learn anything in that class.
EXTREMELY BORING!!! He drags on each lecture slide. His tests are very tricky. However, if you pay attention in class and read the book, you shouldn't have a problem. Just make sure to drink a lot of caffiene before going to his class, just to make sure he wont put you to sleep.
Nice guy, such an easy class for a lazy person like me. Notes posted on Blackboard, attendance not mandatory, tests are easy if you read the book and notes.
I do not get what every one is talking about. In his class I read all the chapters came to every lecture study for his exams and did average. His exams are hard and for me it seemed impossible to get an A PLEASE DONT TAKE CLASS IF YOU DONT HAVE TOO
Prof not as boring as everyone makes him out to be if you can follow what he's saying.Tests tricky only if you don't take them carefully. No hw.No need even to read the book ifyoulistento lectures.I'mnot a morning personbutI've been fine attendinghisclasses@8am w/o whining&I actually learn inclass.
i thought this class was easy, but cover does have a bad rep around campus. he likes to teach madddd early, but if you can stand it, his 102 class is pretty easy. just read the book and go to class and an A is guarenteed if you have some amount of intelligence.
actually most of tests come from his lecture classes. yeah, it seems he likes to teach early. also there is no curve in the class. so if you get a 70=C 80=B 90=A. The class average doesnt matter but he does help your test grade with it. Do well and you should be fine.
PLEASE DON'T TAKE CLASS!!!!
He is a bit boring, but does try to make the subject clear. His tests are not easy, but not difficult, and he only gives 3 tests including the final. I never went to class and I got a B.
Nice guy, boring and some of his test questions are unreal. NO CURVE IN CLASS WHAT SO EVER!
Easy Professor. Very understanding. Responds to emails. Tests are easy. Note teacher, books not neccisary.

I've had better teachers, but he's not the worst. If u like polisci take his classes. He has a weird grade curve. Text optional, make it to class and u'll do fine.
Boring class, nice guy. Doesn't seem to give out many (or any) A's. Got a B in the class, went to every class and studied. He said that was a high grade to get in his class---whatever...
I thought that Prof. Cover was a pretty clear and fair teacher. I didn't always go to class and never really read and got an A. It probably helps to have an interest in the subject, because many people seem to be easily bored by it. I had a problem with something (not subject material-related)and Prof. Cover was very helpful and accomodating.
It's a ridic. early class, and he is a tad bit boring...but if you've got the book, you've got a pretty decent grade on the tests. Also use the online reviews & quizzes. They help. Not willing to work hard? STAY AWAY FROM THIS CLASS!
Very intelligent professor. Efficient, straight-forward, and accessible. You can probably get an A without a textbook; just going to lecture and reading notes online. Lectures are entertaining, even at 8:20AM. Usually is an early morning class, but still recommended even to non-morning people. A+++++++ would take class again
He is a good professor-hard to concentrate at 8am though. Just do the readings and pay attention in class-he posts the lecture notes online so if you do miss a class or two, you don't need to worry. Tests are multiple choice and are semi-hard, but if u do the readings they are not that bad. There is extra credit which was a joke.
This is an EXTREMELY boring class at 8 AM in the morning--I suggest taking it later in the afternoon. He's a very intellgent guy, but he tends to put people to sleep. He's pretty easy to pass though--he gives extra credit, the notes are online, and the exams are pretty easy.
really easy class if u have any knowledge of the american government. no paper, easy exams. starts the class with music, sometimes good music. pretty cool guy teaching a pretty boring class.
really easy class...all the test questions are taken off a website he gives you in the beg of the semester. awesome teacher and an easy grader, no papers just tests
easy class. nice guy. go to class and read his outlines online and you should get an A.
I've taken him three times and have been happy each time. If you like Political Science and actually go to class, he is a great professor. He can have a temper if you sleep or if your cell goes off, but otherwise, he is very funny.
This Professor is a person who has an exaggerated respect for his so called social position. Not a professor I would ever reccomend to anyone. Very angry person under all the laughs and giggles- I think he just needs a hug!
overall great professor, took a class with him before....3 exams and one term paper....not that much of an easy grader....just go to class and take notes....reading the text is a plus...interesting topic.....professor can try to be funny alot....kinda gets annoying....but hes a generally nice guy in the end =)
OK TESTS. NOTES ON BLACKBOARD IF YOU NEED THEM . GOOD TEACHER OVERALL. KINDA BORING.
This guy is a joke of a professor. he looks like Chris Elliott (the best friend who gets a rash at the end, in the movie 'theres something about mary). his lectures are very very boring and hardly anything he talks about is on the exams. he thinks he is all that because he's a professor, even though though hi did started his phd when he was 35
Overall a good teacher. His lectures are kind of boring and morning class which makes people very sleepy. He gives curve and extra credit assignment. A lot of reading, but his outlines are very useful.
Nice guy... easy class. Got an A and havent showed up to class since the midterm. He posts all the notes online and his exams are easy as long as u study those notes.
Boring class, maybe because it started at 8 am but whatever, The guy is really nice, helps, gives a great extra credit assignmetn which really helps, tetst are hard, but if he sees you are improving eacht est you will get good grade,
Took this class in the fall of '05. The class was from 8:20 to 9 something am. I showed up about 3 times to class. He offers extra credit that give up to 6 points on your end average. I literally read the lecture notes at 6 a.m. the morning of the final which was at 9 a.m. and got over a 100 because of the curve. All you need to do is study the le
He was a nice, intelligent man. Unfortunately, his lectures were BORING. It didn't help taking his class so early in the morning, but jeez...i fell asleep almost every day. towards the end i didn't even g2 class. I just did the online reviews--they are almost exactly like the test. just study those and you will at least get a B.
greatest poli sci professor ever!! he explains everything very clearly and is always there to help. He can be a bit boring but if your really interested in poli sci then you will manage to stay awake and pay attention! very informative class!
Easy A. Just go to class and take notes (all tests based on lectures). Text not important
boring class and early in the morning. if you go and print out his notes and pay attention you'll do fine. he gives a good extra credit too.
You do not have to go to class at all, puts all the notes on blackboard, tests are not that bad, you dont even have to do the reading for the class, just study the notes and you'll do fine
All notes are posted on blackboard. Tests come straight from the notes (the book adds more substance to the notes.) The Simulation is easy, but you should definitely ask him to clarify what he wants from the simulation. He grades fairly. Attendance is not mandatory. I recommend.
Very good professor, very knowledgable. Just print out the lecture notes and study those for the test. Tests are very straightforward, and he's not a bad guy, class isn't too boring, just early, easy extra credit!
Good prof, really knows his stuff. Can be a little boring sometimes but if you are into Poli Sci you'll like it. Is a very easy prof but you have to read your notes, at least, before the test. 3 test, 1 simulation (very interesting), and that is it.
Well it is not mandatory to go to class but i gurantee you will not do good in the class if you never go. His midterms were crazy becuase he never tells you whats on them so you are expected to know ALOT
The lectures are fun, he likes to joke around. He gets the class involved by asking to talk about current events. The project is easy/paper. I did mine an hour before it was due got an A on it. Whats going to be on the exams are not announce but they were the defintions in the notes.
Easy class..just study lecture notes and do online practice tests. Don't have to go to lectures but it helps..and really easy extra credit
Great Professor. His lectures can get boring but you should try to go to as many as possible. I studied straight from the lecture notes and briefly read through the chapters and got an A. Extra credit is super easy. Tests are all multiple choice.
HE IS THE BEST PROFESSOR EVER! he's a very nice guy and is very passionate about what he teaches! is always willing to help and his tests are not that hard. would recommend him to anyone!
Very good professor! I recommend going to lectures b/c he talks abt the lecture notes a lot more in depth and u wont need to use the textbook. There's 3 non-cumulative exams (includes the final) and a research experiment worth 10% which takes about 30 minutes. also offers really EASY extra credit worth 6%! take him! class is early though.
easiest teacher ever.
This professor is great. He is extremely fair with grades and gives plenty of extra credit to help boost your grade easily one letter grade. His test are very easy if you go to class though going to class is not mandatory. If you choose not to attend then you must read the chapters.
For a 100 level class this class was a bit of a struggle. There is extra credit but only counts for 6 points towards your final grade. Exam grades are curved but not by much. The t.a. is so unhelpful in the review sessions. Do go to class the bulk of exam questions comes from the lectures. There is also a mandatory research requirement survey
Not a very hard dec class. But have to attend lectures to do good on the exam. Most of the things on the exams are from his lecture notes but he does put stuff on the exam not written in the lecture (hint: go to class). You don't have to really hard to pass the class but studying the lectures are not enough to get an A.
I've taken two classes with him and he is fantastic! By far the best Pol Sci professor at SB. He is enthusiastic and funny, and ectures are interesting. 3 exams and one paper - you can easily get an A in his class if you show up to class and take notes. I highly recommend Prof. Cover!
I've taken two classes with him and he is fantastic! By far the best Pol Sci professor at SB. He is enthusiastic and funny, and ectures are interesting. 3 exams and one paper - you can easily get an A in his class if you show up to class and take notes. I highly recommend Prof. Cover!
Great professor, but has an attitude so stay on his good side. Don't ask too many (>1) questions b/c he'll think your challenging his authority.
Worse 100Lvl class ever esp. if u need it for Skill4. He gives review sessions but ur better off just studyin the lectures n read the textbook. class is super borin n not worth gettin up for when its so early. most of the time he just reads right off the lectures but may add in lil comments to get at the ppl who dont show up to class n ask on test.
He can be a little dry at times but he's a very nice man. The lecture notes are on blackboard the day before the class. The exams are easy if you go over the notes and going to class helps you understand the material better.
nice guy, extreamly boring class, half of class doesnt show up. way too early. TEST ARE DESIGNED TO WEED THAT MISSING HALF OF THE CLASS. MANY TEST QUESTIONS HAVE MORE THAN ONE ANSWER. EXTRA CREDIT AVAILABLE. FRESHMEN TAKE CHARLES TABER OR FRANK MYERS
He is really nice and the class is very easy. It is an easy A if you show up! He adds in a lot of comments to the notes that he puts directly on the tets.. so if you don't attend class it will be hard to get a good grade. Extremely easy A if you show up and pay attention.
Um easy A? No def not, he expects u to show up to an 820 am class. No one goes. Tests are based on lecture notes and what he adds in class. If you go than your good. If you dont than you can possibly pull off a B. Extra credit is given also but not that helpful. It is not an easy A. cuz i know easy A's.I still recomended it , hes is a nice guy.
I went to about 2/3 of the classes and I got an A, so these people are mistaken...10% of the class is participation in a study, and you can get 6 EC points very easily. He also sends out a review before the test , there are review sessions, and the notes are online. There is no excuse not to get an A... This is a very easy and interesting class too
Probably one of the best professors I've had at SBU. He makes really clear powerpoints that make it easy to understand what he wants you to remember for the tests. He grades really fair on the exams, basically if you get the general idea he gives you most of the credit and only takes a few points of if you mess up the specifics.
This is the easiest class at SBU. For anyone who complains your retarded. Three 50 MC question exams, 10 points for a 25 minute experiment and 6 more points for doing online quizzes! Those 16 points go right on your final grade! So all you need is a 75 average on the 3 tests for an A! If you complain about this class you are a joke! Take this class
agree with person below
BEST PROFESSOR AT SB for POL SCI! Very clear and very informative notes. 3 exams MC (Easy) that are based off slides. Very hard to get less than an A in the class..unless you are that lazy. I took POL 322 as well..JUST STUDY SLIDES! Attendance not mandatory.
his tests are designed to confuse you. every question has at least 2 possible answers. i do not recommend him at all. i went to every single class and still had trouble. he did not want to do anything to help me.
contrary to what everyone has been telling me,this is not a easy dec even though i got an A in the class. you still have to go to lectures 8 in the morning and basically remember the whole lecture slides to get an A. textbook is a total waste. reviews sessions are somewhat useful.
This class is sooo early. I recommend doing your best to wake up on time because actually going to lectures will help you more on the tests. Lectures are not that interesting but every once in a while he'll make you laugh. Never gives homework and gives an extra credit option.
Great Prof, Very passionate about what he teaches, exams are easy if you go to class and pay attention to the notes. Really nice guy. Liked the class
The class is so early! This professor will try his best to confuse you! I did really good in the midterms and he got an impossible final so I end up getting an D+! Don't recommend this class at all, so hard to predict.
The class is so early. Professor Cover will try his best to confuse you. I almost got full score in the midterm, but he got an impossible final and I end up getting an D-!! Don't recommend this class at all unless u want to kill ur GPA.
The class sucks. Professor Cover is so boring and you will find yourself in a total nightmare in his class, adding to it is that fact that you have to wake up so early. Impossible to get more than an B.
Do not take this class! Prof. Cover is indeed very nice and helpful, but his tests and exams are so hard that could easily make you fail. I was forced to choose the P/NC option last semester taking this class. Terrible experience.
I got an B+ in the class, only because I spend 2 hours a day reading the class notes. Very hard to succedd in this class, do not take it unless you are absolutely have to.
This class isn't as bad as people are saying. If you understand how American Government works and know left from right you should at LEAST be able to get a C. Tests can be confusing, theres attention to detail. Morning lectures are Brutal but if you read the notes, go to review sessions, and do the extra credit, Youll do just fine. Nice Guy too
Attandance not mandatory. lectures are posted online before class. Get the book! Some questions on the exam are only from the book! EC opportunity available which can boost your grade! only downside is that this class is at 8:20 in javits!!
Easy A- dont have to attend class. Really clear and even makes a study sheet before each test- study that and you'll automatically get at least a B. If you didn't get an A, you just didnt work for it!
If you don't get an A in this class you should be kicked out of the country and out of college. If you have a BASIC understanding of government you should get an A, if you don't you are just stupid.
awesome professor, demands respect and deserves it! He goes out of his way to make sure you have the necessary tools to pass the class with an A! I would take a class that he is teaching in a minute!
hes a really hard professor especially since all his classes seem to be at the crack of dawn hes also painfully un interesting. I would recommend not taking this class to fill a dec.
Okay I just finished politics with him and the reviews on here are deceiving. This class is not an easy skill 4 or dec f. I attended every lecture and came out with a poor grade (yet passing grade). His tests are extremely hard. He does give extra credit which helps a little but still not enough. Nice enough guy but I would NOT recommend this.
This class isn't an easy A, but you should get at least a B as if you go to class. Downloading the lectures isn't enough, he gives you facts in class and lets you know what will be on the test. The tests have a few questions from the textbook, so if you want an A you'll have to read. Otherwise, do the extra credit and you should get a A-/B+
very dry class. you'll be asleep on day one. its pretty much an american history class, if you have it 820am too....gooooood luck.
I'm a bio major and I strongly recommend taking this class. The class is at 820am which is hard for some but going will really benefit you (some questions are only told to class goers) Test aren't that easy but he gives you an easy extra credit project really helps your grade He is an amazing professor! and you will enjoy his class
Professor Cover is a good guy, he is funny and the class is fairly lax. It is not an easy "A" type of class but if you put forth the effort you should do well. 3 tests and a paper is manageable. The lectures are clear and is easy to understand. I think it is a good pick.
I didn't attend class very often so I didn't do so well, but I still have to say that professor Cover is an excellent, dedicated professor. There are entire chapter outlines before each test, even though you have to know lecture material too. He knows you shouldn't get a good grade unless you work for it.. work for it and you'll easily get an A.
He is a very interesting lecturer and I enjoyed the classes I attended. To get an average above a 100 (and ensure an A if you don't do well on the tests), do the extra credit and go to the review sessions for the tests.
Took this class in my last semester as a Bio major bc I had absolutely no interest in history/poli sci. This ended up being one of my favorite classes in Stony Brook. Professor Cover is an excellent teacher. His lectures are engaging and he makes a lot of quirky jokes! The tests are pretty easy if you go to class and to the review sessions.
He is fantastic. Great for all majors including BIO students who don't think POL SCI would be interesting. The class is easy if you attend class and pay attention. But def take this class!! He is a great professor. Funny too!
Easy A the. It's an 11th grade history class. Easiest class that stony brook has to offer. It's easier than mec280.
Very good professor. He tries to keep his lectures somewhat interesting, and is very fair when it comes to grading. Very easy course if you actually go to the lectures
He is an amazing professor. He explains his work very well and it's very educated I highly recommend you taking this class. With a decent Effort put into this class you should colophony otherwise it's very easy to get a B or better attend class and you will do fine with the exams he is a very generous professor.
I know he is a very good professor, but his lectures are really boring. He is fair when it comes down to grades. The extra credit is a must.
EXTRAORDINARY professor! Excellent personality. He gives clear notes and is very understandable when lecturing. His tests aren't difficult. He gives three and each aren't cumulative. He gives a 12 page paper, but it's not hard at all. He was a fair grader and wants his students to do well. Excellent course for and political science major!
Everyone says he's a good professor but he was really boring and it was extremely hard to be engaged with him at 830 in the morning. If you're not interested in history like me and is only taking this for a dec, you can find something else you'll enjoy for dec f and skill 4.
Ok this Professor is absolutely fantastic! He's very interesting and you learn a lot from his class. I highly recommend it. Yeah it's at 8:30 but if you go the majority of the time, the grade will pay off in the end. Not an easy A, but def an easy B. Put in the little extra and the A is no problem.
Amazing professor-very helpful and nice, makes the course interesting, puts lecture notes and audio online. His exams are fair and he gives extra credit. You'll do well as long as you study.
Really easy class. Didn't go often because all the lectures are on Echo. Studied for about an hour before each test and pulled off B's. Really hard to pay attention to.
Went to class three times, got an A-. It's simple, all you need to do is the reading. Every single one of his lectures is about the book. Extra credit quiz on BB are easy and help review. Final is not cumulative.
I took him for POL 322 and the class is the same format: 3 non-cumulative exams, except here we did a "legislative simulation," which was fun. Very interesting class. He's a great guy with great personality and knows his stuff and teaches eloquently. Textbook readings assigned, but unnecessary. Best political science class for any major student.
First of all, he's a great professor. Secondly, his teaching style is all derived from the textbook. Seriously if you take a look at his lecture notes, it's like a miniature version of the textbook. Thirdly his exams are all from the textbook so if you study from the textbook you're fine. I just had trouble waking up in the morning that's all haha.
If it's hard to get up early and stay awake in the morning, don't take it. And, if u're not american citizen and u come from a country of a different political culture, this course could be hard. It's not about whether the course is interesting, but about whether u could stay awake and catch the testing points......
Take this class for an easy DEC. Attendance is not mandatory at all, and he posts all the slides online. He gives a great opportunity for extra credit so getting a B or higher in this class is very easy. However, if you want an A, you will have to do some reading from the textbook. Take this class.
If you're looking for a pretty easy A, take this class. I didn't do great on the tests, but the prof offered an extra credit assignment that added 6 points to the final grade. If you're looking for an amazing educational experience, look elsewhere. The prof can be dry and I don't feel as though I gained a deep understanding of American government.
not an east A class at all, do not listen to what others say, you have to study hard core for his classes and you also have to buy the book and actually study, even when u do, if u have not taken an AP History class in your high school you are screwed. I took it thinking it was an easy A class but it turned out to be really hard.
Fairly easy. Three tests and a super easy extra credit assignment. Never went and got an A.
Attendance is not at all mandatory and the lectures are posted online HOWEVER I learned all of his lecture slides, review sheets, and chapter outlines and still could not get about a 75 on a single exam. You are obviously doing something wrong if your class average is a 70. Gives a 6 point extra credit but I'd rather fairer exams
Lectures are extremely boring and dry and isn't mandatory. His exams are a bit difficult (50 MC) but I did pretty well on it because the questions are similar to those that are already posted online. Not an easy A but an easy B with the 6 pt extra credits.
Easiest class in SB. I just looked at all the lecture echos (rarely went, early in the morning) and that was basically all I needed to pass. You won't really need the text since 95+% of the exam material is from the lectures and he hates the text, but if you want extra credit, you will need the text. The extra credit adds 6 points to final grade.
