Great teacher. He expects you to be responsible for the class work (uh oh Toto, you're not in high school anymore). Test material comes directly from readings/lecture. If you do the reading it isn't hard to know which characters he's quoting. Good close reading coach.

You are very lucky if you can take english 201 with him. He makes english fun and is not such a hard grader. You get many easy quizes and the exams are not that bad. I don't usually like english, but I liked it with him!!

I actually have not taken a college class with him, but I had him in High School and he was awesome, if you wanna do good in any of his classes, read read read the books, all of his quizzes and tests come straight from them and pay attention to his lectures, he really does know what he's talking about, got IB credit b/c of him and his lectures

DeFazio is awesome! He is so funny and sarcastic. And he takes a big interest into trying to figure out what is going on in our generation. He does make english exciting and the class was fabulous! Attendance is important, as there is at least one quiz every class.

He is such a great professor. He really gets you involved in the material. Also, the work load is not bad at all!!

I loved this teacher! He is pretty easy and is just fun in class. I had a 3 hr clas with him and he made it interesting and it went by fast. Try to get him as a teacher!

Man Defazio was freakin AWESOME!! very very good at teaching very clear and concise with words and his choice of readings for writing. Makes class very interesting with his personal stories and cander. I was in a 3 hour class and it went faster then the and 75 minute ones do. Quizes are easy if you do the reading..hard if you dont its that simple.

Defazio is amazing. Probably one of the best english teachers i've ever had. Just be prepared to read A LOT and write A LOT. Weekly response papers 2-3 pages. Likes to spring quizzes on you too so actually read the material, try not to sparknote it. Otherwise, he's a fun teacher to listen to, quietly sarcastic but not caustic.

Basically just write 1 paper every Friday and get comments back on it. Also do "learning logs" for each week, which are pretty easy. Overall a pretty straightforward class, with no real "grades" on anything (which I don't really like, but others do). Not impossible to earn an A.

Dr. DeFazio is a really wonderful professor - clear, passionate and incredibly intelligent. I highly recommend any class that he is teaching. Students that have been negative towards him are simply bitter because he's not easy and will not be pushed over. Take his class! you will be so happy you did so!

I am so grateful for taking his class. I have to warn you: if you want an A, you will have to work hard. If you tend to slack, this is not a class for you. But if you are eager to develop your critical reasoning skills, to be involved during class, and learn from a top-quality professor, Dr. DeFazio is your choice. I simply admire him!

He's a really good teacher..even though English is really boring, he makes the class interesting..he's pretty cool and will definitely help you if you need it..the writing assignments were kinda challenging but he doesnt grade too harshly..he gives ten quizzes and are really easy if you did the reading. i recommend taking him

While not a hard class, the essay is a long drawn out affair and one of the books used is horrible. DeFazio is a fair grader and gives a lot of opportunities to raise your grade.

Still my favorite professor at GMU after having him for two courses. He maintains your attention by making every lecture interesting, mainly because he's witty and has a great sense of humor. No midterm or final in this course, and any tests/quizzes are multiple-choice. The amount of writing is not too bad.

He's got a good sense of humor. There is literally one essay due each week but it's not too bad as some are free writes. Uses blackboard a lot and it's not hard to get a good grade as long as yo do everything on time. One of the best professors I've had.

Great Professor, keeps the class light and interesting. He uses everyday examples and funny stories. Be prepared to write every week, but all of the writing is about things you have already experienced so it's not bad. Definitely a morning person but gets you up and awake for the day. Extremely helpful and is understanding of little mishaps.

Professor DeFazio has a great sense of humor, which comes in handy for those with a morning class. There is an essay due every Friday, which may seem like a lot of work. But honestly speaking, speaking as a lazy slacker, it wasn't too difficult. I was able to submit every essay on time, though it lacked in quality and still managed to earn a B-.

really nice professor. had an essay due every friday but wasnt that much work. jus wants to see you improve as a writer. he's funny, and always fair. i enjoyed being in his class. Make sure that you make thorough changes between your drafts, and that will get you a good grade.

Excellent proffessor, I would definitely take his class again, also a very fair grader, and he chooses interesting books to read. Im generally a poor english student, and am very bored by english, but i enjoyed his class and did well

DeFazio is so legit, I loved his class! He is super knowledgeable in what he teaches and this class is definitely not a waste of time. If you love English then this class is for you! There are 2 papers to write, SUPER easy quizzes (u need to read of course)and a interactive presentation. I got an A in the class. Take it!!

He's a really good professor. He's funny, and he's passionate about his subject. He's knowledgeable, and he's a straightforward guy. All you have to do for this class is read two novels, read short stories, do a presentation, and take quizzes. If you do all the work and participate, you can pass. Overall, I recommend that you take this professor.

I LOVED this class!! Prof Defazio always made it very interesting. Everything we did had purpose to it, he isn't one of those teachers that just gives you work to do because he can't think of anything for class. Definitely read the books and short stories, he's passionate and knows every detail. Overall easy and enjoyable class!

Great professor! He enjoys teaching and knows his stuff. I liked his class even though I did not get an A. Make sure you go through the syllabus carefully prior to class. Hybrid classes are challenging as there're so much (online discussion, posting, paper and etc) going on at the same time! I'd recommend taking him!

The DOC is the GOAT! If you have him as your professor you are truly blessed. I took English 302 DL with him and he helped me so much. He always did his best to help his students, and everyone who I knew who took the course said they loved him. I wish I could have him next year too.

Dr. DeFazio was the most AMAZING professor! He is so incredibly funny, and so so caring. He tries not to overwork his students that much at all. He is an angel sent from the English teaching Gods. Please take his class! 1000/10 recommend .

The Doc is the best english teacher and he'll teach you a ton about english. He has helped me so much and everyone loves him. He'll help you with your grade and you'll love his class more than anything.

He was by far the best prof I've had at GMU so far. Very encouraging and engaging, even for an online class. His instructions are very straight forward, as long as you read it. Tends to be a lot of work but it's reasonable. Highly recommend!

Weekly discussion board posts, 10 ejournals, 2 essays, and other assignments. He gives good feedback and responds to emails quickly. I found him to be somewhat of an easy grader. The workload is a lot and sometimes assignments can be tough. Mostly research and writing work. Work at your own pace class. He is very respectful and organized.

I dont normally post about professors that often, but this professor is a really understanding guy. He is lenient with late work, and his course schedule is well organized. If you take him in a distance learning course, do not underestimate the value small points bring. The whole semester has a total of 100 points and you must not mess up.

Pretty good guy. He is lenient with late work, and honestly you could not do every assignment till the end of semester, and hell still grade it.

Some of the assignments for this course seem like busy work but do contribute to your papers which are a large part of your grade. If you follow his instructions youll pass. There are a lot of downloads for the course to see the different examples but these examples are useful

Serious students will appreciate Dr. DeFazio because they'll learn a ton. He's knowledgeable, interesting, fair, and sets clear expectations. You'll work for your grade, and that's how it should be.

I enjoyed my class with Dr.DeFazio! Very understanding professor if you talk to him. One large project with a group that weighs heavily on your grade. Weekly assignments/reading but the books/stories are provided. He responds quickly to emails also. One thing I would've liked was more feedback on grades.

If you are here to earn a grade and learn you are in the right place. After reading some feedback for this professor, I was terrified. However, I learned a lot in this course. He does have a lot of work but it is meant to help you build up for the big assignments. He is always eager to help and he gives amazing feedback and all assignments.

Honestly the most understanding professor I've ever had. If it were any other professor I would've failed this class, but he was extremely helpful and allowed me to submit late work even though it was entirely my fault. I would 100% recommend him to anyone that needs to take this class.
