Great teacher. The guy is obviously interested in what he does. All of his tests were online, and open book (Since they're taken online) Some classes are boring, but most of them are actually very interesting. I definatly would reccomend this course to anybody.

One of the most intelligent people I've ever spoken to. He sort of reminds me of one of those evil science genuises--in a good way.

Great professor. He's amazingly smart but communicates his lessons very clearly and understands his students aren't the science geniuses he is. Attend class and read the book and you're sure to get an A. If you're struggling and need to get help he's very willing to spend time with you to help you understand.

Can anyone talk more about working in his lab? What was your experience? Did you enjoy it? Did you learn a lot? (And was it really worth the $804 to pay to volunteer for three measly credits?) Did you feel you could approach grad students and in particular Chandlee with questions you had about the research in particular and research in general? Etc

Dr. Kausch extended himself so that I could learn as much as possible without being in the lecture hall. I have an auto-immune condition which puts me at risk in a large lecture forum. Dr. Kausch allowed me to take the on-line class and then met with me weekly to answer my questions and take the quizzes. He was more than accommodating.

Excellent class whether you are a science major or not. It integrates science and world issues that are relevant to everyone and everyone should really be aware of. As long as you attend the lectures and participate, an A is well within reach for any major. Very intellectual, easy-going man. Very interesting class! Highly recommended!

Dr. Kausch really is a helpful professor, and is very approachable. The subject matter in the course can get confusing, especially if you are not a science major. Overall, I would recommend this class and this professor.

Good Class, not to difficult (it is an intro course). Goes over quiz questions and has study guides. Class is long but also interesting. Probably one of the smartest dudes on campus, knows WAY to much about cellular bio. May have a hard time grasping concepts if you're not a bio major. Loves it when people ask him "what is life"?

class is long and can be boring and if you put no effort into it outside of class it can be difficult. However his midterm and final have the exact same questions as his quizzes, making studying for them a lot easier.

If you are interested in a career in biotechnology, working in Dr. Kausch?s lab is a great experience. You learn a lot of skills that you can?t get in a classroom, and everyone there is great to work with. Just make sure to read all the materials they give you, because your work is a lot more interesting if you actually know what you?re doing.

Nice guy and a really easy class. You don't have to be great at science in order to understand this class, it's taught for students seeking all sorts of degrees. If you are interested in the subject discussed, he is more than willing to give you more information on it.

TAKE THIS CLASS! I took this class as a substitute to taking nutrition and i highly recommend it. You have to go to every class because attendance is mandatory but he gives you all the quetions for every quiz and you use the quizzes to study for the midterm and final because he takes questions right from the quizzes. Super helpful

Great Professor and great class. Explains everything you need to know and everything you need to do to do well on quizzes and tests. There are weekly quizzes that are all multiple choice and exams are all old quiz questions. Class taught me alot and the professor is great.

Dr. Kausch is extremely passionate about the material. I definitely recommend this course to anyone regardless of your major, it's really good stuff to know. He reminds me of an older version of the kid from the Mac vs PC commercials with a tone like Bob Ross. Never thought I'd look forward to a 2 1/2 hr lecture.

Great teacher who made learning a difficult class easy. He's very enthusiastic about the material he teachers making you want to do better. your study guide for each quiz is the exact questions on the quiz. and at the end of the course he sings the class a song!

By far my favorite class this semester. I am not usually into Science, but this class gave me a whole new interest. Not hard to be successful in the class and very easy to get along with the professor. I have the pleasure of working in the same laboratory Dr. Kausch does. Not only is he brilliant he gives individual attention to any student. His class is interesting, relevant, and entertaining, his stage presence is unbeatable! I encourage any and all to register and get a chance to know him, he's full of wisdom and compassion.

Honestly he is a really down to earth funny guy and he brings it into the classroom, definitely one of the best professors i have had at URI.

One of the best professors I've had! Bonus: he played Pink Floyd for us. Also, just wait until the last lecture, if you haven't appreciated this guy yet, you will!

He is so interested and knowledgeable about what he teaches which makes it easier for you to enjoy it and be interested. The study guides are so helpful and you'll get an A easily! Kausch is a awesome guy...his class is fairly boring, but as long as you use his study guides, there is no reason to get anything lower than a B in his class (MIC190). I would recommend him to anyone.

This man knows how to make a 3 hour lecture into a very imformative and interesting class. Its very apparent he lvoes teaching it too, and when hes not informing you of information for tests, hes either reciting his own poetry or playing a very unique instrument. Fun and great class and teacher i would take again in a heart beat.

He gives out study guides every class with 30 questions, and then the next class you have a quiz on 20 of those questions. This class is very easy, and the exams are the same questions as the quizzes. The only downfall is that he NEVER answers e-mails until it is wayy too late!

Enjoyed watching his lectures. The content of the course was interesting. The quiz, midterm, and final exam questions came straight from the study guides he provided at the end of each lecture, so studying was very easy.

if you go to class it's easy plus he has recorded classes online too. But you use clickers to answer questions on the board, so he'll know if you're there or not.

I took the class online and it was great. I could do the class quizzes and watch the lectures on my own schedule. I finished everything early and was able to focus on my other finals during final exam week. I have never had a class like this at URI and I loved it, VERY interesting and he really makes you think. Highly recommended.

Taking this course online was perfect for me because I could manage my time better. I learned things I didn't know I wanted to learn. If youre looking for an easy A this is it. Do NOT buy the book it is a waste of money youll never use it. This class is open to all majors. Very humorous and knows his material. First half of the course is textbook. After that just go to class and answer study question after class (30). Quiz are actually 20. Topics were capturing, GMOs, Forensics, Pandemics. Treats coffee and cookies occasion. Final exam is a breeze (not cumulative).

You don't need to buy the text book. You don't need it to study

Your success in this class is determined on how much effort you put in. He gives you all the tools to receive an A, it just takes some effort on your end to take the time and answer questions correctly. I took BCH 190 online and it was an interesting class! You watch his lectures on Youtube, and then answer the questions at the end of the video. Those questions are the same exact ones from the quizzes! It's an extremely straightforward and manageable class. I met with him once at his office hours and he was the such a sweet, funny & laid back guy!

Kausch makes this online course very easy to follow, if you need help at any point you can always ask. He really wants students to succeed. It is an easy course if you keep up with the quizzes. He knows what he is talking about, is funny, and very very passionate about the class. The lectures are long, but he keeps it interesting. Professor Kausch seems like a very nice guy. I took this class online and really enjoy the way he structures it. He lets people work at their own pace, which is definitely what an online class should involved. As long as you stay on track you should have no problems. As a social sciences major, I dreaded the fact that I had to take 2 natural science classes to fulfill my Gen Ed requirement. This class and professor proved to me that science doesn't have to bore you to tears. Professor Kausch is very clear and helpful. His lectures are the best taped lectures I've seen for any natural science professor at URI.

This class was extremely interesting and informative. I took the class online in 10 weeks. A lot of work in a short amount of time but thoroughly enjoyable. I would love to take another class of his. Definitely makes you work for your grade but extremely fair.

I took this class because I heard it was easy and thought it would boost my GPA. It wasn't that challenging, but it was SO interesting. The "organicnon-GMO" trend is popular right now, so here's your chance to become informed. These issues (& others) are prevalent in today's society so I really enjoyed learning about something that I can apply.

I had no idea what biotechnology was l I took this class. Many topics were covered in an interesting way that opened my mind. I learned a lot. Taking this class in a 10 week period was challenging. Professor Kausch loves the subject he teaches and that made it enjoyable. He gave quick responses to any questions.

BCH190 was, by far, the most interesting and informative class I have ever taken. This course covered a broad range of material that was both useful and truly eye-opening. The Professor was intelligent, passionate, gave great lectures, had clear expectations, was humorous and not bad to look at! Very pleased overall.

This class was a lot of work but if you did the work and led to the lectures you would have no trouble pass the class. With 12 quizzes a midterm and a final in 10weeks you needed to focus and do what needed to be done. Great lectures the power points could have been cleaned up a bit to many duplicates in the beginning. Loved the class

Dr. Kausch is passionate about his work, and how it translated into various topics of biotechnology. This course was extremely informative, helping me connect science course to other fields of study. I would highly recommend this course for one, it is a very manageable A, and two, you will learn a lot. Kausch is the man.

Mid term and final were online. Quizzes are very easy and nothing is a surprise with this class. You don't need to be a science major to do well in the class. The only issue was that ot was very long, but the breaks help and sometimes you get out early.

First Kausch is a cool guy. I didn't learn much and had little interest in the class but it was fun, easy, and did not feel like a 3 hour class at all. The class itself weighs heavily on weekly 15 question quizzes and attendance. But as long as you show up and pay attention you'll be all set.

Easily the best class I've taken at URI. He knows literally everything and is super passionate about what he teaches. This class is so interesting and deep and really makes you think. You learn the newest of the new and how it is affecting the world you live in. HIGHLY RECCOMMEND

All of it is online, the answers are on Quizlet, he opens 6 quizzes at the beginning of the semester (takes about one hour to take all of them) and then opens the last 6 quizzes after you take your midterm. If you have any questions, he is more than happy to help. TAKE THIS CLASS!

Professor Kausch is great! Very timely in responses through Sakai, and very supportive of students' individual needs. For example my computer crashed while taking a quiz and he re-opened it for me the next day so I could get the proper credit. One great aspect of this class is how we are able to go through the material and quizzes at our own pace.

Easy A. You are graded on two easy assignments at the beginning and end of the semester, as well as quizzes every week and two exams. All of the answers for the quizzes and exams can be found on quizlet. I recommend taking this class to get the science credit out of the way for any major.

Brilliant. He's the definition of an well-rounded academic. Extremely insightful about philosophical matters happening in our modern society. Calm, funny, and very clear minded. This class is the best online class i have ever taken. He is so clear about what is expected and it is an interesting course as well. There are weekly quizzes, a midterm and final and one project. Very easy A.

Some of the lectures had a lot of material in them but you could watch the lecture however many times you wanted. Professor Kausch was very entertaining to listen to.

Best professor I have ever had. Mr. Kausch truly made learning Biotechnology interesting. He explains complicated things in a way that makes sense. If someone else explained the same things to me, I wouldn't understand them like I did listening to his lectures. He is also super witty and fun. He made learning easy, wish I had him for every class!

Class was extremely informative on the topic and went in depth for some more specific fields of study. Class is a little long but its only once a week so no big deal. Dr. Kausch is an AMAZING Professor; he really cares about his students and what they take away from the course. Definitely recommend this class I think EVERYONE should take it!

Okay so this is the most essential science gen ed at this school taught by Dr. Kausch. He cares more about us being aware of the impact of the topics of biotechnology rather than useless assignments, papers or tests that supposedly "prove your worth" as a student. Take it. You won't regret it.

cmb 190 online is a great class to learn something usefully easy as long as you use quizlet and questions to review

This class was really easy. Just listen to lectures & he gives you study guides (questions that will be on the quizzes and exams) that are word for word on the tests. Learned a lot while not being stressed about the class at all. Definitely recommend taking this!!

Dr. Kausch was one of the best professors I've had. You can take his online course, but I HIGHLY recommend his live class. He makes lectures extremely interesting and brings his own unique, quirkiness to them. Be prepared to pay for an iclicker reef app since attendance is mandated, but his quizzes are easy and he's always there to help!

Probably the easiest class at URI. The online lectures are interesting and he's actually got cool insight into a lot of things, but if you don't have time to watch them he provides all the study guide questions for the quizzes at the end of the lectures (and all the answers can be found online).

Albert Kausch has to be one of the best teachers I've ever had. He is so passionate in his subject which makes the material in the lectures very interesting and relatable. He is lenient so don't worry about asking for extensions, but don't take advantage of him. He is a comedian/genius/novator(not to mention he bought the whole class DD twice :)

I took this class online and wish I'd taken it in person because it was an amazing course. Best I've taken at URI. The class is easy because Dr. Kausch wants you to learn and I definitely did! It's easy to find answers for the study guide but I recommend paying attention because you learn so many things about real-world biotechnology and science.

Im a freshmen here at URI and Albert Kausch is the nicest human ever. Please rake take his class. He is so passionate about issues in biotechnology. Its not a lot of work at all. I really enjoy listening to his reasoning behind his beliefs. Would definitely take this class again I cant recommend it enough!!!

Super nice guy, super easy class. Doesnt allow open computers can do other homework. Get app for participation. He gives you a study guide each class for the quiz, you dont really need it. All quizzes are online and you are able to look up every answer and have plenty of time left. Have to stay until the end of class to get the password for quiz.

10/10 recommend AFS 190. Whether you take it in-class or online, it's an easy A. All the answers are online. Dr Kausch is a great professor and is really passionate about what he teaches. Would definitely take a class with him again.

This class was entirely online, but it was treated just like a normal classroom. Literally recorded lectures online, but it didn't feel any different then a real lecture. Kausch is super helpful if you need any clarification on tricky topics. Not too much to say as the class is guided on your own pace. Easy A

This is, by far, the best class I've taken. I learned so much and actually enjoyed listening to his lectures and doing the work. I'm taking BIO/CMB 190 this semester, and Dr. Kausch is great, his lectures are informative and he explains concepts very clearly. Quizzes are very straightforward and questions are taken directly from the lectures.

This was a great class and I am happy I took it. The information being taught is actually enjoyable to learn. This was the perfect class to add onto my semester. It says to buy a book but honestly it isn't helpful and I wouldn't recommend wasting your money on it. Other than that the projects were interesting yet pretty easy. I would def take this.

If you're looking for a gen ed class that you'll actually get something out of take this class!! I hate science and it ended up being one of my favorite classes. Prof Kausch makes the lectures super interesting and is very passionate about science. You'll learn something new and interesting every class!

Professor Kausch is a fantastic teacher and is really friendly. You can tell he loves the course and tries to make every class really interesting. The quizzes are all online and easy but nonetheless he still teaches a lot and makes it so easy and fun to learn the topics. He is an amazing guy and I thoroughly enjoyed his class I highly recommend it!

He is the best, he gives weekly study guides, which are an exact replica of the exams (all online). He bought the class food multiple times. He makes it so that you cant fail. Hes really interested in what he teaches which helps engage students. The only thing is that this class is 3 hours, and he hands out the passwords to the exams at the end

This is one of the most stimulating classes I have ever taken and it didn't hurt that the instructor and subject matter was engaging. It has been about 15 years since I took a class and was worried that I might be overwhelmed and bored. His lectures were intriguing and I found myself recalling answers without having to study excessively.

Dr. Kausch is such a good professor and honestly this class was so easy. Everything was online and the content was really interesting. A lot of people choose to skip class but he takes attendance so that trips up your grade if you dont show up. Legit all you need to do is show up, do the work, and youll do well. Definitely recommend CMB 190.

I have had zero contact with Albert, but his other prof Kimberly is a decently hard grader. I still have an A in the class, but you have to make your own question at the end of the quizzes and I usually get a 5/10 on that. It's annoying. But the class is super easy, and an easy A. Take it! No textbook needed.

Very easy class. Never have talked to him in person but this class is a piece of cake. Lectures are not awful and easy quizzes- not much else besides a small project in the middle of the semester and at the end!

Great Course and Great Professor

This will be one of the most interesting courses you'll ever take. In it not only will you learn about DNA and the development of GMOs, but you'll do so while pondering big questions such as, "What is life?" Dr. Kausch was available to talk every time I asked and those talks were very inspirational. Ask him about the vegetable he created!

CMB 190 with Dr. Kausch is the best course I've taken here at URI. I would recommend EVERYBODY to take this course regardless of major or requirements. He truly cares about his students and wants everybody to do well in the class. It's an easy A class and there is minimal work where quiz questions are known prior to taking the quiz. 10/10 recommend

Great Teacher, Better Person. For me it was a break from dealing with numbers all day in my courses, first class I genuinely enjoyed. Poll Questions were always good and me and my roommates would always talk about them at lunch. A class you will 100% change the way you think and examine new ideas (especially in science) A URI Legend.

First off, this man is a legend. The entire semester was online and this man is an absolute stud. You have 3 in-person classes that aren't mandatory but I highly recommend going as you get to understand him. He flexed his rate my professor score in our first class and was super excited to teach. He cares about his students and the work isn't hard.

An incredible professor. The textbook for this course was optional, and all information needed to be successful was contained in his lectures. His video lectures were extremely interesting. The work in this course is not at all overwhelming, you can tell he truly wants you to take something away from this course. I would absolutely take it again!

Dr. Kausch is a great professor, and I would reccomend taking AFS 190 even if it's not required for you. The class is really entertaining & gives a lot of insight into biotechnology, he makes it fun to watch the lectures. the homework and required project takes maybe 15 minutes to complete, and even if you do the bare minimun it's hard to fail.

Professor Kausch makes this class super engaging. The lectures are informative and entertaining, and the workload is very manageable. Unstuckstudy AI was a huge help for my study prep. I'd definitely take this class again.
