Great teacher, lectures fun to listen to, have to do a lot of in-class writing but it's not as bad as you might think. Delta needs more teachers like this! A++++++++++++

Excellent teacher! He expects students to do their reading, but is very generous in point giving. He is very funny, and makes class entertaining. The tests are straight from the reading, and his lectures are very interesting.

He is a nice guy. He does stick to his rules, but you cant blame him for that. He is funny and pretty straightforward, no tricks. He gives u advance warning about test, doesnt really give too much homework. You get questions, but u can use them on tests

He is an ok teacher. Hard test be prepared to know good/hard vocabulary. Lets you take the essay portin of every test home to write, which is helpful, but overall he is still pretty difficult. If you read and attend lecture it should be ok.

Dr. Ortiz is a great history teacher and I really enjoy going to his lecture because he has a good sense of humor. He also review what is exactly going to be on the exam to make sure everybody can pass. I highy would recommend Dr. Ortiz for HIS 17B.

Test is different from study guide. Tests you on video clips. Take home essays offered. Funny teacher. Gets mad easily if a student isn't paying attention. Let's students out early when he doesn't feel like teaching.

GREAT teacher! Lectures are funny & informative. I never enjoyed history before taking Ortiz. Grades very fairly & gives pop quizzes that can replace a low midterm. Can use study guides on test & even gave one take-home final. I learned so much in this class & had a lot of fun. Definitely take!

Just finished up the semester and I was incredibly pleased to have had him!If you want funny and informative lectures with a lot of personality, then you have to get Dr. Ortiz, he made an 8:00am Political Science class the funniest class I had. I will take him again. You should too.

He's an okay professor. His tests are really difficult (he says he can't even get an A on them, that's messed up). His lectures don't really make much sense, since his tests don't come from them. He's a very book centered teacher.

Great teacher. His lectures can go off track by a lot, but just do the readings he assigns and you will do fine. The tests and quizzes can be tough, but if you actually study, you will get a good grade. Also, Ortiz has a great sense of humor and keeps the class in check, especially idiots in the back.

Great teacher to work with, hilarious, acutally pushes you to vote wiht a bit of incentive and reward. Makes you really interested in politics even if you thought that poilitics wern't your interest he will make you on edge of your seat

Wonderful teacher! Sometimes you don't think he's teaching anything worth while... then BAM! He pulls it all together. When you go to take the test all the sudden you know everything somehow. Funny funny guy and really in tune with the students. Must take him!

Mr. Ortiz is one of the coolest instructors I have ever had. He is a stickler on his test but is very open to new ideas from his students. Pee before getting to class. LOL. Seriously. he took a tough subject and made it fun. Show up to class on time and listen intently to the lectures. There is some odd ball stuff on his tests just to make sure you are listening. Make notes on everything he says. Very nice and funny to boot.

Professor Ortiz is the man. The guy is as funny as sh*t.He works with students who apply themselves. His tests are somewhat hard but he applies a curve. An A is very attainable due to him applying A's at 85% in lieu of 90.

Took his class in summer '05, he is strict but very funny! He grades on a curve :) Lets students do take home exams and allows the use of notes etc on most in class exams. Deserved a C but got a B! Just don't leave your cell phone on in class.

Absolutely would reccommend him, funny, yet easy to talk to. Works with you if hardships arise while in class. Tests are hard, but mostly take home and can work in groups.

REALLY GREAT AND FUNNY TEACHER!! he's an easy teacher as long as you read the textbook and you really dont need the other smaller books unless you decide to do essays i really recommend this teacher.

He is a really great teacher. Very very funny teacher and knows his stuff. Exams are not easy. You can find answers for most of his questions in the textbook for his take home exams but he admits that even he would not score 100% on one of his exams. You have to show up and read and you'll do well.

Good teacher, funny at times, strict with his in class policies..ie no phones, don't walk across class when late etc. You will only need the orange pink book. The 1800's book is not used, one of the stories is xeroxed. The other book needed can be checked out at the library. His test are a bit weird and challenging but passable.

Dr. Ortiz is a wonderful instructor; all you have to do is read the textbook, complete the studyguide, and take notes in class, you will earn an A. If you arrive to class late do not walk in front of the class, sit in a seat along the wall. The final exam was open book, however you only have 2 hours to complete the exam.

He makes A LOT of jokes. Too many is his problem. He wastes class time going off topics and talking about people robbing his wifes car, or the son that still lives with him. His work seems easy, just stay on top of things. He's a pretty nice guy, he could've kicked me out but he didn't. YET. Attend his class, and READ the material!

Good teacher, don't interrupt, refrain from using cells, or TEXTING. He's old school so just show some respect and you won't, get picked on. We had workbook assignments or a 3000 word essay, your choice. Most of our test were either take home or open book, with the exception of one, which I did poorly on. Just do your work and you'll pass.

This professor is awesome! He cracks a joke or two every other sentence, so his lectures never get boring. As long as you do your (rarely given) homework, you will do fine in the class. You don't have to attend class, but it is a good idea since he gives out extra credit sometimes just for attending.

He was by far the most entertaining teacher I've had at Delta. I thought he was generous with grading tests too (he curved them). I would be surprised if anyone failed. As long as you actually take the tests and show up to class, you will be fine.

Took his POLSC 001 class. Funny guy easy teacher. He gave 2 in class midterms and 1 take home, all of which were easy. Only homework you have is chapter outlines which were time consuming but not hard. Dont text or talk in his class or he'll tell you to get out. He keeps yor interest, and usually lets you out early.

The negative and positive things people say both have merit. The test questions based on his lecture will leaving you scratching your head, his lectures are more about his family. He is pretty fair though and he gives both perspectives on political issues. If you go to class and do the work, you're guaranteed a B, no doubt.

Great teacher. I got a D on my first midterm, A- on my second. B on my third, and probably failed my final & got an A in the class. He curves everything & gives extra credit for no reason. All you have to do are study guides. Just copying terms straight out of the book. Time consuming but way easy. This teacher is too easy. All tests were takehome!

Funny guy, old-fashioned, but hands down the best teacher ever. I dropped his class during the second week of summer but decided to retake him in the spring and passed with an A. Attend class every day to get that extra credit. I came into the class thinking that I would drop again but I came out passing three of his tests with an A.

I took this teacher during summer time. You pass the class as long as you put the effort needed for it. Put simply, work hard and you will get an A. He has a great sense of humor and makes sure that ALL students get an equal treatment. Show up to class , study the material, do the study guides (optional) and make sure you pay attention.

Hilarious teacher! Makes me look forward to coming to class! Says "Et cetera" a lot. Lectures were entertaining and kept us all engaged. He will not put up with people showing up late, attitudes, etc.Show up and actually try and you'll survive this class. Great class! Took him way back in Fall 2008 during the Obama/McCain election so it was pretty interesting. This guy is hilarious. His personality alone will keep you entertained. DO NOT walk down the stairs late (wait til he says so), do not get caught cheating, do not get caught texting. he'll call you a jerk and tell you to leave lol.

You have to buy the textbook in the bookstore. Yes, it's expensive. All books are. He's such a clown and uses media more to do his lectures. You don't lecture out of the book at all, or if you do, then hardly. Studying is mostly on your own and with your study guides. Do ALL the study guides and you cant fail the class. This teacher is funny however, there are a lot of readings. 100Q tests. Sometimes he lets half of the test to be take home & other in class. Gives a lot of extra credit for attending class. Once he is done lecturing he dismisses the class so you're out earlier all the time. Overall i wouldn't say this is an easy class but it is doable.

Dr. Ortiz's class is online, and to be completey honest, it was a very fun class. You learn all about the History of Mexican Americans, from the Aztecs to present day events. There are some typos here and there, but to be honestly, it is a very fun class and he is a very good proffesor. You will learn a lot, just read and stay on top of things!

I was hesitant to take this class because of all of the mixed reviews. Long story short, read read read and do the work on time. I'm not going to lie, the quizes are hard but if you read everything and do all of the assignments, you will survive. So far my highest quiz score is a C. Very challenging but very inspiring class. You can do it just work

After reading the reviews here are a few tips. Read everything, be thorough on your discussions and follow each rubric requirement for the highest scores.
