Class is good.
Professor Thompson is a great professor, and a pretty cool guy too. He grades pretty fairly, and is really helpful, and willing to help students. He really knows his stuff, and is really enthusiastic about the subject. If you really like history and WWII, take his class!
He is a really great instructor . He made me like History by transferring his great enthusiasm in his subject. He is a really cool guy with a great sense of humor.
By far one of the best instructors I've had throughout my college career. His class is pretty straightforward, attendance is not mandatory and is a fair grader. He is quick to respond to emails and is very helpful when you need clarification on class material. Makes class interesting with his enthusiasm for the subject. TAKE HIS CLASS!!!
Absolute a great class. I've hated history all through High school and he made it very interesting for me. I might not know everything now but I definetly know a lot more then I did before. I'm taking his class next semester for HIST 102. GREAT PROFESSOR.
He's funny. Knows ALOT about history. Can even recite all the years of historic events w/o a pause no joke. In class, listen to PP lectrs and watch historic movies. No HW, 1 open book qz on BB/wk MCs and essay questions. Doesn't grade on time. Found my final grade disppnted after course was over. Xtra crdit a RSRCH PAPER no one seems doing it.
he's awesome, super nerdy, took him for a summer class, we had to do 5 weekly summaries and that's it. kept it fun and interesting and I hate history :) plan on taking more of his classes in the future <3
I took all of HIS courses with him. I was concerned about taking HIS 122 in 6 weeks (when I'm still learning English) but thanks to him the class was great. He is awesome, fun, very helpful and interested in knowing your opinion. He is definitely one of my best professors and I'm sad that I don't have any other HIS courses to take with him. :(
By far the BEST instructor I've EVER had! I was very impressed with Professor Thompson's knowledge AND passion about American History, as well as how his delivery of course material. He was so AWESOME, he made the book read like a novel. He made those marbel statues (old presidents) come to life and he made you feel as if you knew them. Bravo!!
Professor Thompson is by far the BEST professor I've ever had. I was very impressed with his passion & delivery on what used to be such a boring subject. He made HIS very interesting and his enthusiasm about the events made me want to know more. If you need an HIS course, he IS DEFINITELY YOUR GUY!! BRAVO, Professor Thompson, one of a kind!!
Proffessor Thompson is a very energetic, enthusiastic and knowledgeable proffessor. Class consisted of lectrue summaries and chapter summaries, piece of cake. Really funny guy, knows his stuff, reccomend him to any and evryone. Easy A, gives extra credit oppurtunities.
Definitely the only professor they should have teach this class.
I hold a BA in History and an MS in Communication. During my seven university years I studied under over 40 professors. He ranks at the top. His lectures are carefully researched, rehearsed, and superbly delivered. Professor Albert R. Thompson has the ability to become the greatest history professor of this or any other generation!
Awesome teacher. This class and professor is a gpa booster. You have to attend class to do the hw, talks fast,
He's a great professor, especially if you enjoy history. The homework assignments are due weekly, but they're not difficult. I would take another class with him without hesitation. If you're looking for a good professor that is passionate about his subject but at the same time not a difficult grader, this is the man you want.
All I will say is take this professor, I hated history in high school but ended up loving it. Beware of group work though( which he grades individual members). Lectures are fun, I found my self walking out of this class with a smile every time. Test( only) is very easy if you pay attention during class and take good notes. I highly recommend this.
What do I need to say here, just look down at the others review. He is one of the best professor at nova. I hated history all my life, but Professor Thompson has changed my view about it. Now history has became one of my favorite nova subject. Plus his lecture is filled with great material with a hint of great humor. Honestly its an easy A.
I would definitely recommend taking Professor Thompson. He is super passionate about history and loves telling you weird and funny side stories to help you understand the time period better. Would definitely take again.
Should've dropped out from the start. All we did was watch videos and It was the most boring class I've taken. You think having a class where all you watch is videos seem fun but it's not, especially if you have no interest in history at all. I just wish he gave us more stuff to do that practices the material in class. HWs were difficult as well
Simply the Great! He is very good in teaching history. He is highly recommended. Gives a lot of extra credit. Three quizzes are very easy. there is one book report and one final exam. Final exam will be McQs. Good luck!!
Honestly I don't get the hype. his lectures are super long and boring and he makes us watch movies during class and after awhile they are not fun anymore. He never replies to emails. Homework and the bookreport don't have clear instructions. It is easy to pass if you do your work on time. He doesn't grade anything until the last minute.
He is really boring and makes you watch movies that don't are hard to follow he waits till last minute to grade everything which is horrible
Love this professor. He is absolutely hilarious and is relatable to the students. I didn't like the homework he would give us, which had to be a summary of chapter in 250 words. And sometimes I would miss the due date because he assigned whenever he wanted on blackboard, so check blackboard often. However, he does give extra credit quite a bit.
The only professor that should really be teaching this class. His lecture are fun and interesting, cause he as jokes and some humor into it to make it less boring. His test are pretty simple as most of the answer are mostly what he talks about(kinda exact word). Though he does wait till the last minute to grade, thats the only thing though.
Prof Thompson made history interesting. His humor and way of story telling made it engaging. One thing I didn't like was watching too many movies, I prefer to hear a lecture or have class projects etc. and doing something. It was very long at times and a lot of information is given so you can't skip. Assignments can be tough but he's a fair grader.
Took his his 102 class now taking his history 267 class and going to take his history121 class in the summer!. Lets just say he makes history interesting! Just do the assignments and you will get an A easily! They're not hard at all. It is Group work though.... show up and you will have no problems
Pretty good teacher! Loves what he's teaching! Only down side is he's pretty unorganized. Doesn't always post stuff when he says he will. Also takes his time on answering emails. almost weekly quizzes that you can take twice, and weekly chapter questions. Only a midterm and a final and theyre both easy! Also give an unreal amount of extra credit
Cool dude, but seriously dont skip class and beware of group projects. If you want to switch groups tell him ASAP!
Wow, I took this guy twice for HIS 101 and 102. Best Professor i ever had at NOVA, and exams are a breeze. You obviously need to study and come into class, but when you do, easy A. He's a funny guy from time to time and is really chill with his students. Lectures are so interesting I barely tuned out, and homework is based on notes and book
Pretty cool professor. He does talk a lot about his interest and his powerpoints are kind of boring. but the best part was that he gave us an enormous amount of extra credit
Great prof, but you can't get by without paying attention, or going half efffort. Dont cut class unless you want to fail, seriously.
Fun class not boring gave lots of chances for extra credit
He actually made me care about US history. Nuff said
Best history teacher. Easy homework.
hybrid 101 class. he is a very nice professor but he talks way too fast to write down any notes so be ready to type he gives either no assignments for a week or way too many in one week they are easy but can be time consuming. busy work and takes forever to grade things that arent automatically graded final is based on lecture so you need to go
Gives you a heads up on assignments but due day vary. Still dude is funny and keeps you awake in class def better than boring
Give a lot of extra credit, does require you to pay attention a weekly quiz and a final exam no midterm. Easy A
I am impressed with this professor. I amazed at his ability to retain all that information. Its as if he lived throughout the times in history. I wish I had thought to record his lectures they were filling, a lot of reading but the knowledge is inflammable.
Just took the final. Easy we did a review the week before and it was on point
Professor Thompson was just a cool teacher. He was relaxed in class and gave good lectures. You will have to do homework out of the book but his tests are based on his lectures that he gives in class. If you dont show up, you will have a hard time. If you like history at all he is great to talk to. Caring and profession.
Funny guy and real chill though the homework can pile up great professor
I wish my major required more History classes. He is an amazing teacher, really know how to bring fun to history during his lectures. He gives up to 100 points of extra credit.
No midterm just a final. Fun class easy quizzes
He gives students the opportunity to get an A.
Professor Thompson is very compassionate about History. He keeps the class entertaining by throwing in few jokes here and there. It's easy to get an A in this class because he gives us the opportunity to earn up to 100 extra credit points. All of the quizzes and homework are assigned on blackboard. Read the book and you will pass with an A.
The coolest history teacher ever. He is so chill and gives tons of extra credit. If you participate and do a decent job on your assignments you shoudl get an easy B and with a tiny effort and A. But he is the coolest ever. If you need history then take this guy. And if you like history, then this will be your favorite class.
One of the BEST lecturers- a real storyteller, making history fun even if you don't like history. Often humorous. Very generous with extra credit, but you will still need to do your work. One big group project at the end, but participation directly affects your grade on it, so those in the group who speak up get rewarded. Take him. He's wonderful.
Echo everything said. Lots extra credit, fun lectures, final exam was from lecture so take notes, cool and not hard
Do quizzes, an essay a week. One exam. Easy A
Amazing professor. Knows what he's talking about. Would take him again if it wasn't my last semester at NOVA.
this feacher gives extra credit, but his notes are unorganized and you have to deal with lots of boring and useless reading work. get ready to read. he is so unprepared for the poserpoints. you got to come to class and figure out what is going to be on the test. take him if you like reading history.
Easy schedule. Five written assingments, a final, a group presentation one project and 10 quizzes. Funny lectures and all work was on blackboard.
Prof talks quickly so pay attention or you might miss it! Textbook will give you all the history you need to know. Instructions for assignments are probably on blackboard but you won't get much feed back on assignments and other things.
Great class. One exam. A project. Just follow directions. Lectures not boring.
You have to come to class as final is from lectures, easy quizzes, lots of extra credit but you have to work for it.
Basically a cool professor who is understanding if you have trouble in the course. Easily to follow lectures and thankfully we did have to read that book often.
Good professor. He'll map out exactly what you need to do to get an A on the first day of class. Just do all of his work, and you'll be fine. Also he plays steam games, and watches anime. I WOULD RECCOMEND
Makes history interesting; lectures are so fun. He is amazing. No tests. Two projects and two papers. Hell explain every assignment the first day of class. Quizzes are due at the end of the semester but theyll help you for the final. The final is based on what he talks on lecture so take good notes in order to pass the final.
He is an amazing professor. He threw extra credit at you like dollars at a strip club. The assignments are easy, the tests are easy, but be ready to do a decent amount of work if you take a compressed course. deadlines are very important to him. I took the 5 week course and it was very easy. 10/10 would take again. I got over 100% in the class.
Easy teacher , gives all assignments and when there do the first day of class
He was a great professor , on the first day of class we got to choose when assignments were do only a couple major ones they were pretty easy , gives extra credit points like crazy ( my friend says like candy) also at the end of the semester we did a mock trail pretty easy (I worried for nothing)
One of the best professors I've taken so far. I'm not a big history guy, but he made sure his lectures were interesting and humorous, and always went over topics in-depth to show you the hows and whys of historical events and viewpoints. History isn't my strongest suit, but he made it interesting enough that I wanted to work hard to get an A.
You can tell he is a history expert from his lectures. He is humorous and flexible. There are lots of extra credit opportunities, but they are writing heavy. The assignments don't have clear guidelines as to what he expects, so it's easy to lose a lot of points. He is a good professor, but VERY slow at replying to emails.
am confused if his class was writing class or history class. too many writings. grade late.
He is such a horrible professor. His lectures are confusing. The assignments are really hard and complicated. Overall, wouldn't take this for sure. This class give me real stress over the whole semester.
Read the syllabus if you take this class & MAKE SURE you know when things are due because he doesn't mention assignments AT ALL. He does not respond to emails. He lectures from memory and rarely uses PPTs so he is just talking at you for the whole class. He loves batman but not even batman can save my grade in his class smh my head. Not worth it.
he is a very good professor. he is chill. he gives out a lot of extra credits like cash and tbh Im thankful I took him for history, he is a respected professor who know his stuff and helps you through to pass. there's only 2 exams. a midterm and a final. his test are worth less and his assignments are worth more. definitely take him its worth it.
Okay here's the thing, all his exams are based of lectures and some power-point slides. I suggest not wasting your money on buying the textbook because THEY WON'T HELP. Only 6 grades total; his grading on assignments aren't that strict; I got mostly 100 on them. If you're good at taking notes, take him. Overall nice, funny, and chill professor.
He is a horrible professor ive ever taken. His lectures are so confusing. And DONT BUY THE TEXTBOOK. A lot of writing stuffs. And he talks during the entire class. Confusing. If you want to get a bad grade, take him.
If you want to cry because of the pain and stress take him.
Attendance is key to this class. He makes you sign in on a sheet which will actually make you go to class. Very knowledgable in history which can be confusing with tests because you have all this extra information that you really don't need. 8 essays, a midterm, and final. Gives extra credit by answering questions in class and vsiting museums.
His lectures always go off on a tangent and most of the time you can learn the info yourself. He's lazy in the beginning of the semester and then dumps major assignments all at the same time. He didn't grade over half my assignments till the last day. He never answered any of my emails and doesn't give any feedback. Try hard and you can pass.
Unless you're an auditory learner, don't take him. He only talks at you the whole class, changing slides every hour or so, and goes so deep into detail or examples you forget what the point or topic was. He's a slow grader, but if you pay attention to Canvas and the assignments he posts (which he never tells you when he will), you'll do fine.
If you want an easy an A take this class. Gives lots of extra credit, and only a midterm and a final, but they aren't worth much points. So if you get good scores with the homework, you'll get an easy A.
Nice guy but is very lecture heavy, will talk all class. He is NOT accessible outside of class so don't expect to hear from him. He doesn't reply to any emails. Coming to class doesn't really matter. He also puts in grades way too late and is unclear with directions. For such an easy class, he made it too difficult and confusing. Don't take him.
nice guy, but if you don't retain information from lectures don't take him-- in the sense where he just kept talking and you just had to understand and take in what he was talking about made an easy a class go to wasted because i could never retain the information and he didn't care if you did/didn't show up to class
Albert's greatest quality is that his class is super easy. All you have to do is literally study the study guide he gives you to collect your A and you don't even have to read the textbook or show up to class. If you do show up for class your in for what's really more of a history nerd-out session for him and he's pretty engaging. Good teacher
Very easy course. He talks for the majority of class time and plays lots of YouTube videos. Test questions are multiple choice and he allows retakes. He grades for attendance. I didn't need to use the textbooks. Overall, I'm thankful I took his class because it was an easy A.
His class is easy, homework is only discussions but its due by the end of each month, quizzes are weekly allows only 2 attempts! Is a laid back professor, there is ONLY one final exam which is multiple choice, contains 50 questions. Discussions are worth 20% while weekly quizzes are 50%. No writing finals just all multiple choice
he is a good professor, only thing is he is lecture heavy he will spend the whole class lecturing. there is discussion posts you have to do every month that make up most of your final grade so i recommend doing them and a few quizzes. it is a fairly easy class just do the work he assigns and you WILL pass the class !
FYI he only believes in "working" Monday-Friday. Class is on Fri but he won't post the assignments until Mon with first posts due Wed by 5pm. I have kids and a full adult life. The weekend was the time slotted I can actually do school work.
Coming from someone who is not a fan of history class, Prof Thompson made every class engaging and fun. Out of all my classes, the only one I genuinely looked forward to was his. I work full time and I am a full time student and I found that his workload was very manageable. Easy A, I 100% recommend taking him. Oh and exams/quizzes are open note!!
Professor Thompson is an amazing professor who has a great sense of humor. Always looked forward to his class. His class consists of small quizzes and discussion boards, which are rather easy and don't take much time to complete. He also believes in not giving homework over the weekend. Highly recommend taking him if you need a history professor.
He is very funny. I hated history before but it all good now
Took this because a friend recommended it. He kept it not boring which is want i needed in a zoom class so that's something. History is not my thing but I got through
I loved professor Thompson's personality, but I would not take him again. Pros: Engaged the class well with his humor. Tests were open book. AI study buddy. Cons: Group discussion weekly & depending on others to do their work was stressful. Grades for discussions were missing for a while. So much reading (30+ pgs/week). Did not follow syllabus.
Loved the class. He was engaged and worked with me when some things came up. But my group work was a lot. I wish there was no group work.
I dont like history but i liked this class. I looked forward to class because his talks were actually interesting. I wanted to know more.
