albi is very passionate about chemistry which is good, but he sometimes forgets how complicated this subject is to a beginner. if you speak up when you dont get somthing he is good about explaining it in more detail. over all he is not a bad teacher and i think he is extremely fair. he gives built in extra credit on every test(very hepful!).
Albi is one of the best teacher's I've ever had!!!!!
Albi is the best teacher I've ever had!!!!!
Albi is very fair and really understands his students and chemistry. Tests are hard, but the practice problems really help (hint: you should do the practice problems!)I wish all my profs were like him.
i like albi - i do agree however that sometimes he forgets what its like when chemistry is a fresh subject- he is intelligent and a lot of fun - sometimes a little to picky on grading labs :)
The tests are fair (he tells you what's on them), but you really have to study and do the practice problems to do decent. Albi is really nice and helpful in person and he especially likes fiery demos :)
Great teacher, as easy to understand as you can get in a Chemistry teacher. Fair tests, grades labs a little harsh, but overall a wonderful teacher! Fun to listen to most of the time, and great demos.
Albi is great.
seeing that I was afraid to take this class before I met this teacher I'd say he is one of the best instructors I have ever had for ANY subject. Other than delivering the material and answering questions thoroughly and clear he is kind and warm hearted. He makes it interesting and leaves me hungry for more! I LOVE CHEMISTRY!
I did not enjoy this instructor at all. He was impatient with some students and not very concerned at all when I reached out for help. The class was practically empty at the end of the term. This tells a lot.
Nice but sometimes unclear and keep up with the math or you get behind....
Albi has a real enthusiasm for the subject that is infectous and makes you want to learn. I loved having him as a teacher.
I loved this class. Albi made the subject so much more interesting than I could have ever imagined. Just do the work (especially practice problems) go to class and study, and you'll be fine. Fabulous Guy!
Albi was a very good teacher. His exams are challenging but if you study the study guides and your lecture notes you will do just fine! Homework is must. It is very little homework but very important to do it and do it correctly. I belive the homework is gradely a little harshly but that ok I still got a B+
Although I ended up getting a D in this class, I still like Albi a lot and thought he was a good teacher. He explains things well and uses good examples. For tests, he generally lets you know what will be on it ahead of time, and hands out good study guides. He makes his own helpful sheets for you as well. Grades homework a little harsh. FLASHCARDS
Albi is very organized in his lecture. Quizzes and tests are difficult, but he grades on a curve which helps. He also provides study guides for his tests, and allows for a note card for the final.
CHEM 30A was one of the toughest classes I've ever taken, but Albi did a great job teaching it and you can tell that he really likes what he does. I would take other classes from him in the future.
Very clear lectures. Cares about students, enthusiastic about subject. Takes time in lecture to answer questions and elaborate on concepts, but If you don't do the reading then don't expect your prof to waste everyone else's time reciting info that you should be learning on your own time, if you did the reading and are still confused then ask away.
great teacher! the subject is hard but he is so helpful and he goes over what you need to know. in lab he was so helpful and always corrected our work before you had to turn it in so you are guarenteed a good grade. highly recommended!
Albi is a great teacher you have to work very hard you have quizes almost every week i recommend that you do his practice problems they will help a LOT! study and you will pass the class
Albi is AWESOME! He is very organized and clear in his lectures . Even though the material is hard he prepares review topics and practice problems so you know exactly what to study for. This is not a class you can regularly skip as he tests from his lectures. So if you do the work and study hard you'll do fine in his class. He's great!
I liked the way this instructor teaches. There's a lot of material to cover but he makes it look easy because he explains it well. I managed to get a B tho. I would certainly recommend him.
Look @ us Chem30A girls (& guys) from fall 09 givin Albi his rave reviews. Albi is a GREAT teacher. Word on campus is he's "very thorough." haha Don't let this intimidate you. He has the best lectures I've had at Cabrillo. He gets studets attn & involvement w/o even trying. tons of demos. Helps u tons. HE'S a good grader, but his GRADERS = nazis ;)
This class is HARD! You need to be there EVERY class and study, study, study!! His quizzes are almost every week, but if you do the practice problems, it's not so bad. The exams are extremely comprehensive...like EVERYTHING you learned! Do all your homework, take notes, and you have to go to lecture if you have any hope of understanding this subjec
Albi is a talented &thorou teacher who holds his students to a very high standard. If tired of unprofessional/lame teachers then he will be a breath of fresh air. In order to succeed in his classes you must attend all classes and pay attention the whole time. Studying (textbook or other source) is crucial. slack off?(fail) work hard?(Prevail)
Very hard teacher, makes you feel like an idiot when you get back your tests/quizes. Homework is pointless, don't waste your time. Very unfair grader and his lectures are a snooze fest. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASSES!
As a visual learner Albi was not a good match for me. He often says things that you must understand without ever writing/drawing it on the board. Homework problems do not correlate with lecture or what you are tested on. MOST BRUTAL GRADER EVER, total point nazi. Sometimes quizzes on things he has not taught you. Tests are much harder than Josh's.
This class is hard, and Albi expects a lot. You have to study and turn in perfect work. But he is really clear on what he expects and there's extra credit and lots of examples and practice to help. He is really funny and helpful in office hours. 1B is a lot harder BTW, so I'm glad I had Albi. He's a good teacher, take him if U R going on.
Albi is a great person, but I did not like his class at all. He expects A LOT and even if you work your butt off and study (when this is not your strong point), it is extremely difficult and frustrating. He will help you in office hours, but he makes the hw due at very inconvenient times and it is impossible. Nice guy, but HATED this class.
Hard class, but Albi is a funny guy, and he obviously loves what he teaches. The homework may seem utterly pointless, but every point, even half points, counts. Definitely look at the practice problems for the quizzes and tests. Don't rely too much on the book; take good lecture notes instead. Work your butt off, keep positive, and you'll be fine
Albi makes the tests concept based, requires an intense amount of memorization, and uses exceptions in his tests. If you are great a detailed studying, this is your teacher. If you like math and calculating, he is probably not. The tests are curved. A C usually ends up as a B+ or A. Use lecture notes and don't use homework to study.
Chem 1a is a hard class. Albi is really clear on what you need to know though. He is always willing to help if necessary. Going to lab/lectures is not an option you will fall way behind if your attendance is not consistent.
Albi is a great teacher. Chem 1a is a hard class though and although attendance is not mandatory if you don't show up you will fall behind VERY quickly. Make sure to do the practice problems. The quizzes are mostly on practice problems the Exams are mostly on lecture material. I really enjoyed the class..
Tests and quizzes are based on lecture notes and class handouts provided online. He throws a few curve ball questions but tests&quizzes are EXTREMELY curved. Labs can be a bit extensive, but he lays out everything for you! He's more than willing to explain concepts further and help you. Listen, ask, and study and you'll get a B at least.
Chem !A is not for the faint of heart, but Albi is just about everything you can ask for in a teacher. He lays out his expectations very clearly, is concise, and always available to help you. Generous curve, fair grader. Interesting lectures will keep your attention, ATTENDENCE is crucial to passing!!!!
His chem series is rigorous, exactly as it should be. DO THE HOMEWORK, it is often different from material covered in lecture, and you need to understand it to solve test and quiz problems. Ask for help during office hours. The tests are grueling and the finals were cumulative 3-hour nightmares. But I learned a ton and destroyed university OChem.
Students who took workshops had an advantage over those that couldn't as they were given access to old quizzes + exams and knew what to expect. His moods swing wildly, and I never knew if it was personal or just his stress level making him unapproachable. I ran out of time on everything he tested, and all exams are scantrons and felt pointless.
No work handed back (it's been 12 weeks). Exams are beyond students' abilities, quizzes are fine but graded terribly, Albi is obviously not cut out for teaching: he has shown zero interest in helping students succeed. Labs are constantly incomplete and he is regularly absent or "busy". Forget office hours, you're not welcome. Terribly disappointing
Albi places himself in an adversarial role rather than one of guidance to students. No feedback on post-labs (30% of grade), didn't receive our first post-lab until we'd turned in the last lab of the semester. Not enough time on quizzestests and expect to see problems that you hadn't gone over in lecture, cryptic grading structure to boot.
I wish I could give him more of a chance, but I can't. He obviously has no heart for teaching and coming under his students. Hard- headed, grim and prideful. Lectures beyond student abilities and exams are ridiculously hard. Not welcoming at all for office hours and expects you to already know or figure it out yourself. Super disappointed.
Rude, inconsiderate, scattered, and cruel teacher. Sets the bar WAY too high and doesn't give students the benefit of the doubt! Take at another community college, unfortunately, he's the only instructor who teaches the course. Such a let down.
Half the class has access to old tests & then bomb the final & ACS exam. I studied honestly & it paid off on those tests. Albi is a high caliber instructor on par w those of a reputable university. An "A" grade requires substantial effort but nothing out of the ordinary for premed/STEM students. Don't be fazed by the whiners.
Amazing chemistry teacher. Albi knows his stuff and is a great lecturer. He's always available in his office to discuss concepts. It's challenging material but very doable with the resources and practice problems he gives. He's definitely passionate about helping his students learn. Would recommend his class
Albi is a tough professor - that being said you can tell he's also one of the smartest at Cabrillo. You will learn a lot in his class, but remember to read the material ahead of time and make sure you can do the practice problems forwards and backwards and upside down, it will be on the quiz. For tests it's all lecture notes.
Albi is super knowledgable about chem and it shows with a passion while teaching. This class is A LOT of work and req's a lot of study time. Don't miss the labs or lecture b/c they're nearly impossible to make up and his exams are based only on his lectures. Pay attention to details and study everything as he likes to test on the exceptions!
Albi holds his students to a high standard and expects them to be above average chemists upon passing his class. He is very helpful and you will gain crucial knowledge in chemistry so as long as you are willing to put in the work.
Albi's lectures are EXTREMELY informative, and you will need to know pretty much everything from them for the quizzes and tests. Labs were very hands on, some were fun, but all were very time consuming. Hardly finished any lab on time. You will learn so much form Albi, but just be ready for a lot of work... a lot.
if you like chemistry then take his class if you have to. however, if you hate chemistry, don't enroll in his class. I say that because motivation is the key to passing this class. and if you dont have that, you will struggle so much. grades the average between your grades from lab+quizzes+exams/midterms
If you pass this class you will be an expert, but he sets the bar way too high. If you take his class be prepared to sacrifice all of your time. His tests are nearly impossible, there are at least 10 questions that youve never seen before on each midterm. Offers very little resources outside of his lectures. Can be pretty rude and discouraging.
He expects way too much for his students when he doesn't do enough to help them succeed. You don't get your lab reports back to be able to correct mistakes for future lab reports. We don't get our exams back to study either because he reuses his exam, so students cheat by getting hookups from previous students who secretively took pics of the key.
I missed 2 lectures because of a 102 degree fever and it screwed me over. My grade dropped and I couldnt catch back up. During lab Albi spends his time lecturing rather than letting us begin our experiments until its almost impossible to finish. He doesnt enter lab report grades or return work so you dont know if youre messing something up.
Real tough quizzes. Very little feedback on labs since he doesn't grade most of them until the end of the semester. You can tell he's excited to teach but that doesn't really carry. Real tough grader on almost everything.
Chem 1B was a pain in the ass. Albi's quizzes will test on everything in your notes (including stuff you write in the margins). They are very detailed. If you are slow at calculations you will suffer. He's very petty with grading on quizzes, will mark you off on the smallest things. Tests were all MC and not too bad. He gives a lot extra credit.
Albi was one of the best lecturers Ive had. He has an obvious passion for chemistry and extremely extensive teaching history. He is very generous with grading and lets you know exactly what is going to be on each test. Take advantage of his study resources AND S.I. if you can! He has very clear availability and is always where he says hell be.
The class itself is extremely difficult. I dont like chemistry and I will say it was hard. However he is a really good teacher and will help you if you asked for it. The quizzes are pretty consistent with the material in terms of difficulty. as long as youre constantly reviewing your lecture notes and asking for clarification in areas you dontget
Had to take this class online due to the pandemic and man, one of the hardest classes with a professor who couldn't care less about his student's success. Will upload 2.5 hour lectures two days before exams, questions on the exams look nothing like how he teaches you, you get NO credit for showing work. Disappointing and frustrating.
Online its long lectures videos for labs and class. Hes creating content as the class goes and was behind starting the first week even though we started a week late do to fires. Its not worth the effort online There is not enough time to absorb content in time for quizzes where you get no partial credit at all.
A month away from the semester being over and I have no idea what my final grade will be. Class is essential tests every week where no partial credit is given for showing work, and lab with a handful of assignments that is a 1/3 of your grade. No room for error. I don't think he understand how difficult his class is especially with it being online
My biggest complaint is how disorganized this class is. If someone from the outside tried to find literally anything on the canvas page they could not. Also, the way the quizzes and tests are structured, there is no room for error or partial credit. It's hard to be online, but it seems like he doesn't care at all about his students' success.
Very clear and detailed asynchronous lectures. Online, grade was based almost entirely on challenging weekly tests with little room for error; missing 1 or 2 questions knocks you down to a B or less. Definitely requires 15 hrs of time per week. Course desperately needs more non-test assignments for grades to accurately reflect learning.
Do yourself a favor and go over the hill to another school. This class was not prepared for the transmission online, and it shows. The most unrealistic grading and expectation that is designed for the student to receive a full grade lower than they should. Class came together to sign a petition and still we are being grading unfairly.
This class is brutal. Hardest class Ive taken at Cabrillo. Get ready for a rough semester with D/F quiz/exam averages. Go to every SI, trust me! 0 extra credit + partial credit even on complex calculation problems. 65% of your grade is assessments... beware of the 1st quiz (120 pts). Puts questions on quizzes he doesn't expect anyone to get right
Take this class at a different community college. Albi is very burnt out and it shows in his presentation of the material and his treatment of the students. He is rude and doesn't care about student feedback. The administration is aware but hasn't done anything, nearly every semester students pull together a petition about how bad his class is.
You will see material on exams/quizzes that you have never seen. You are expected to conceptually understand the material in order to succeed. No way around the difficulty of this course and the grading. This class greatly sets you up for future chemistry classes by pushing you outside your comfort zone. You will need to LEARN rather than memorize.
Super into chemistry and a nice guy but man the grading is so harsh and u barley get ur labs back to know what your doing wrong. Also, all the quizzes are way harder than the problems you do in class, but he does offer practice study materials and clear course outline. Be prepared to always be doing outside studying, super hard class.
Chem 1B with Albi was easier for me than Chem 1A. He is really interested in what he teaches and it shows. He is super friendly and always willing to help students with questions, you just have to ask. His practice problems and SI will save you for his quizzes. His quizzes are worth a ton of points.
Albi knows his chemistry but not how to teach it and pass on the information. He is always late to class and then rushes the material at the end. Most of the grade is compromised of quizzes and tests and you never get the labs back.
Albi gives passionate but blazing fast and detail-packed lectures; go to SI and watch the prerecorded lectures if you want an A. He HATES grading, no labs were graded until the very end of the semester despite the multiple TAs grading for him. Quizzes are brutal but exams are reasonable. Albi's math is also frequently unclear.
While nice, Albi excepts students to understand chemistry at his level. Quizzes are unreasonable, long, over 100 points, and filled with difficult questions. Luckily there is built in extra-credit and the midterms are curved, but still you will have to work hard to succeed. Go to SI!!! It will save you. Strong algebra skills help in this class.
Figured out on my own mistakes: don't go to in-person lectures (too fast & don't contain all info) - listen to pre-recorded lectures. Quizzes = practice problems. Exams - read textbook too. SI practice problems/notes not helpful. SKIM workbook for prelab. Print & fill out post lab while doing lab & write only wet work data in lab notebook.
This is the most challenging class I have ever taken, and I took Chem 1A twice. While he grades on a "curve," his exams are obscenely long and difficult. His quizzes are worth more points than exams. Don't even bother going to lecture - watch his pre-recorded videos and take notes. Highly suggest taking general chemistry elsewhere.
Honestly one of the most unhelpful professors if you want to pass you have to put so many hours outside of class rewatch the online lectures over and over again lecture
Honestly good luck. This class is already hard and the teacher makes it 10x harder. Terrible/slow grader, test and quizzes = your grade, unhelpful, late to class (15min), and time consuming.
Despite hearing about the difficulty of this class I am came into it with a positive outlook, I probably will never be the same again. The concepts covered in 1B are harder to grasp conceptually than Chem 1A and calculations are a vital part of the class. Quizzes and tests are extremely long and challenging. Reconsider taking at Cabrillo.
Although this was an expected hard class, Albi did not really help at all. He formatted exams & quizzes nothing like lecture, and made it more confusing when you would ask him questions. Nobody knows where their grade stands since never grades waited to put in all quizzes and labs towards/at end of the sem
Albi is consistently 10-30 minutes late to lectures, labs, and office hours. Has been condescending and has an attitude problem. Grades don't get put in until closer to the end of the semester so you don't know how you're doing until later in the semester. Unfortunately, he's the only 1B prof at Cabrillo.
truly the worst professor I have ever had. He will not grade any of the labs until the last week of school so you don't know your grade. This class is super test heavy so get ready his exams are extremely conceptual and difficult the quizzes are not to bad. I hate the way that you walk, the way that you talk I hate the way that you dress.
I learned a lot from this class, but not from him. This class has a bad reputation because of him, we got little to no support. Our labs frequently went 30 mins over, even an hour over sometimes. They are such outdated labs it was impossible to complete them in 3 hours (partly due to Albi unnecessarily yapping + being 15 mins late). Study HARD.
I am just so glad to be free from the shackles of Albi... this was quite an experience.
I was an A+ Chem 1A student and fully got to grasp each of the concepts in that class with a different professor. With Albi, it was a completely different story I had to drop this class because of how mentally draining HE is, not the class. I highly recommend investigating in a different community college for this course specifically.
Possibly the worst part of doing any science program at Cabrillo, his lectures are inadequate, he doesn't grade anything until the very end, the labs are confusing at best and impossible at worst. His grading is arbitrary and draconian, and that is being kind. If at all possible take chem 1B at a different community college.
I have loved Albi's class. He has made some dense content really fun/applicable. Some notes: pre lab/post labs can take 4ever to complete, he grades meticulously, exams are MC, and quizzes look just like lecture examples. Go to lecture (or the recorded videos), take good notes and memorize them, do the practice problems and you will do well!
There aren't enough characters available to write how excruciating this class was, everything that is said about him is true. Albi doesn't seem to be a bad person but his teaching style and grading is torture for all his students, and likely himself. Don't expect to know your final grade until a week after finals, he will wait to grade everything.
I love Chemistry so much and yet attending Albi's lectures feels like a chore, he's genuinely the worst professor I've had and cares very little about his students success and voices, probably the most discussed professor on campus, literally ask anyone who took his class and they'll have a story. If you don't have to take this class, don't take it
How is this man even a professor
Talking to him it was clear that he thinks very highly of himself as some kind of gatekeeper. I've met far more accomplished people who don't share the same attitude. He protects himself and his own interests thru the union so it's unlikely anything will be done about it. I'm glad I dropped the course. I refuse to resort to cheating to scrape by.
Not worth it at Cabrillo College. Take elsewhere.
absolutely terrible. i will never be the same.
This class was bad. Labs frequently went well over the allotted 3 hours, often going on for 4 hours and even 5 on one occasion. The labs likely wouldn't take so long if he didn't spend an hour or more talking at the beginning. He's not even good at explaining things either. Take this class elsewhere if you can. If can't, good luck. You'll need it.
Albi's class was hard but has prepared me SO well for transferring. He has a high expectation but if you put in the work, you'll do fine! He is super helpful in office hours and I always used that for lab reports. His quizzes test on every little detail so study hard! This class is definitely what you make it. Just work hard and you'll do well.
I would highly discourage anyone from taking this course at Cabrillo, do yourself a favor and take it elsewhere if needed. He was never available for office hours, labs on average took at least three hours due to Albi's excessive talking and he never input any grades for assignments/quizzes that were due months prior till the week after finals.
Albi's labs are pure confusion, Chaos masked as smart illusion. Six long quizzes, timed like war, With orgo first, it shakes you sore. Exams pull tricks from thin blue air - Tested on things that weren't even there. Reports returned when grades are due - A final blow out of the blue.
DO NOT TAKE A CLASS WITH ALBI! He's not just a bad teacher, he's actively disrespectful and does not care about his students. Nearly 70% of the class dropped or failed. His quizzes and exams are nonstop and ridiculously difficult. He turns A students into C students, not joking. He doesn't teach; he sets you up to fail. Please, avoid him.
its possible to do well, but you would need to put in more work than is reasonable. i get time and a half for tests/quizzes and it still wasn't enough time. if you want to know how youre doing, do the post labs with him in office hours bc he won't grade it. not his fault he's the only 1B teacher and doing 3 sections at once but yikes.. good luck
must learn precalc know how to rearrange those equations before attempting this class. Labs will go for as long as it takes to finish, for many past class hours. Be familiar with excel before taking. The professor essentially expects you to know everything ahead of time, worst out of all cabrillo chem professors and head of the department as well.
Honestly avoid this class. Expect labs to go overtime. He did not grade majority of the lab assignments till the week after the final, so you really have no idea where your grade stands. Really unhelpful professor. Feels like he likes to flex his knowledge but not actually teach. Make friends in the class if you want to have a chance at passing.
