Do not take his class, he really does not want to help you or share his "knowledge". He is trying to teach his "own therories" instead of the program. He makes just two tricky tests. He makes funny voices of his previous students. I did not like it.
What was stated above. 8 A's and 1 C later, not satisfied. No book was used, any answer that did not fit his theory is wrong. You get study tests but beware because they can make it harder on you in the long run. Did great in class but bombed tests. Only 2 tests.
ARE YOU KIDDING ME? My favorite professor ever. I took him for both Micro and Macro.. Got above an A in both of them.. He is interesting and fun. Don'd kid yourself.. tests are HARD because there are only TWO and you HAVE to study. JUST GET A STUDY GROUP. If you aren't a complete slacker then this class, you will love!
awful! do not take his class!!
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Dr.Al takes a difficult subject and relates it to daily life and current events. Class attendance is a MUST because much of the material is not in the book. You can get an A if you attend every class, take good notes, read the book, do the practice tests.
Great Teacher! Learned so much. 2 tests and fairly easy.
I'm definitely taking him for Econ 2302! He made Econ 2301 comprehensible and he makes it where you can actually learn the material. Only two tests so stay up on studying.
He's the best teacher ever. This is my second attempt at Micro and he makes it so easy to understand. He's funny and he's smart. He keeps you interested in the lecture. He gives 2 exams but you can review his old test and the review is just like exams. Anyone that wants an A take him.
lectures are entertaining but making the grade completely off two tests is entirely too stressful.
I'm typically a B-, C+ student and I took Dr. Al for Macro first and received a C+ and for Micro second and received an A-. I took both of these classes while also attending TxState and can honestly say that the value of Dr. Al's economics classes were greater than what I could've had at TxState.
This was one of the best classes I've taken. The professor was great about teaching with "real" life situations. In economics this is great...it's not just about formulas, etc. He also interjected humor which kept things light and everyone attentive and joining in!
Dr Al is amazing! His class incorporates current, real world issues in Econ, his lectures are not boring, he is funny, there are 2 exams. If you do the study questions for each you will do fine on them. His handouts are VERY useful and you will learn a lot in his class. I took him for Macro and Micro and got A's...I strongly recommend him!! Fun guy!
He teaches economics while including some random interesting facts in his lectures every now and then. He's really funny guy. Very helpful during office hours. He only gives 2 tests but if you do the test reviews, HW, and practice tests then his test will be easy. He also gives curves on his tests.
He is a great teacher! Make sure to do all practice tests and relate it all to book and you will do fine! He is a funny guy and you learn a lot!
One of my favorite teachers ever. I never bought the book, probably wouldve helped if i did, but i still made a C. He makes lectures very entertaining and I was never bored. He gives you packets for everything and practice tests. Sucks the class was only graded on two tests, but still, it was one of my favorite classes in college.
Loved his class. Keeps it fun and interesting. Would have taken him for Micro too but already took it. highly recommended.
The truth is that this class was difficult and stressful becuase your grade is based on only 2 difficult exams. I would have preferred homework or anything else that could have helped my grade. Everything was mostly from his own knowledge. You must attend every class. I attended every class, took notes, studied hard. He needs to retire.
Fun professor, often spouts random facts. Explains things well and makes them relevant to everyday life. I took him for both of my economics classes and I never regretted a second! Take good notes and you'll do well.
Class is interesting enough. Notes are important. Only gives two test, and your grade completely relies upon these two grades. Slivinski thinks a lot of himself, and often goes off on a tangent during class. This leads to a lot of squandered class time, listening to his childish humor. He is not very helpful one on one. He teaches at ACC, not UT
First week of class he states "if you read the book and don't come to class you will fail." We never even looked at the book, waste of money to buy it. Everything you need is given to you on handouts that he explains in class and do not match the book. The entire class grade is made up of a midterm and a final, that's it.
I loved his class! He tells you EXACTLY what is on the test and what is not. If you come to class each time and take notes you're golden. I didn't read the book and got an "A." Probably the best and most entertaining economics prof at ACC! He made a relatively boring subject fun and interesting! Take his class for sure.
Class was great! He tells you EXACTLY what is on the tests, gives many sample tests from previous years, handouts, study guides etc. Class lectures were interesting and funny! He's probably the best economics prof at ACC, so take his class for sure. Each test worth 130 points and there are 2. To get an A you need 200 points. No hw.
Dr Al is awesome. Tells you exactly what will be on the exam. He keeps the class interesting with cheesy jokes, and tries to relate material to everyday life. Tests are difficult, but study groups for an hour every couple weeks help. If you don't get at least a B, you're dumb.
Took him for both Macro and Micro and although the material is quite boring, if you arent interested in it, he does his best to make it not seem so boring by going off on little tangents. He does think highly of himself but a lot of what he has to say is worth listening to and considering. If you ask for help on a topic he is always willing.
Took him for Macro, probably the single best professor at ACC
Had Dr Al for Macro & Micro. I had no interest prior to taking the class and was sure I would have trouble understanding the material. I was wrong. He makes economics interesting plus he's a wealth of knowledge. Only 2 tests per semester so study groups and review of prior exams is essential. Overall he's an awesome professor & I highly recommend.
He is hilarious and definately wants you to learn. If you need help do not hesitate to get it directly from him! He is a great teacher and wants you to succeed! I couldn't ask for more.
Professor slivinske was a great teacher, gives 2 tests but tells you the material on each. Has many side stories to allow for a break from the material! He was very helpful, book is not necessary. Overall enjoyed the class highly recommend!
A really great professor! The tests have to be studied for. Go to class, use study groups. He is more than fair and tells you what is on the tests. There are indeed only two tests. Thx a ton Dr Al!
Excellent Teacher. Not as easy as some people put it. Two tests, pretty straightforward from notes. He does trick you some so be careful and study every scenario of the practice exams he gives.
I struggled in this class, but I came in before class and he is really helpful. Listen to him during class, he tells you what will be on the test and how he will phrase things. Only 2 test so study hard, and be in a study group! I promise it helps.
Took him for 2301 & 2302. Really interesting guy. Tells great stories & has a lot of experience in the field. 2 exams are given. Tests you on your UNDERSTANDING of the material so know it inside & out-questions can get tricky. Show up to class everyday. Lots of exam stuff covered in lecture.
Took both is classes back in 1995. With college way behind me now, I can say that he was the best. The fact that I remember his name, 20 years later should tell you something. He was confident, concise, and cared. Wait to you get to UT--that does not happen.
worse class ever!!!! he talks about everything beside the class....never clear! 2 test only if u felt one probably you felt the second one and finnaly a F in the class
this professor is very smart but his lectures do get side track. If u have questions he is not so nice about resolving them. only has two exams the first one is pretty easy he gives u 20 extra points but the second test is super hard. i got 100 on first but 44 on last one so bearly passed. all multiple choice, no attendence
Dr. Slavinske was one of my favorite professors. In the beginning, I didn't like him, but ended up really enjoying the class and his lectures. If you want to truly learn anything about Econ, definitely take Dr. Slavinske. I took both the Micro and Macro with him and am bummed he doesn't teach any other classes!
Give him time, I hated this class at the beginning of the year! I was sooo confused and had no idea what was going on! After a while, things started tying together and making sense! His tests are very hard and can be confusing! He is not an Easy A! It's Economics, if it's easy you're doing it wrong!
Coming from university of texas at austin i found this class to be super easy. I have to admit this professor was great at teaching the material. His class consists of only 2 tests, which are pretty easy; although the first one is easier. Enjoy these types of class while you can trust me your are not gonna get this at UT or any other institution.
Great professor however he's not a very nice person outside of class. There's times at class when he brags a lot about his success. However he's a great professor. His notes are clear and he provides many ways for you to succeed in class.
Pretty confusing class. The Professor has ALOT of information and you can get lost very easily. There is only two test the whole semester which might seem cool but you better pass both of them to pass the class, and his test are extremely difficult. Don't miss a day or you will be highly confused.
He knows the material but he doesn't explain things very well.
I transferred out of this class after 4 sessions. I felt like I was in the wrong class everyday. For some reason, instead of economics we were learning evolution. There are only two tests, but I do not see how you could pass since the professor would not stay on task. I had a very poor experience.
Dr. Slivinske is THE BEST. Don't let the other RMP reviews fool you. His class is a somewhat-easy A if you GO TO CLASS and pay attention. He tells you exactly what is on the test! You just have to know how to apply it. He is ALWAYS prepared, always there for office hours, and you always get out of class early! If you need Econ, TAKE DR. SLIVINKSE!
You must take as many notes as possible, then do the practice tests. If you work hard and study hard, then this class will be an easy A. Tests are given a 20 point curve, grade consists of two tests. An A requires a 180240. Can get off topic sometimes, but is well educated on the topic.
Didn't buy a textbook and made a good grade. Everything on the test will be in your notes or in his lectures. Memorize the notes you write (I didn't write many) and it'll be an easy A for you. He does get off topic sometimes, but is still entertaining and it's a nice break from the econ talk. Be sure to attend class!
Once you get past his religious spiel, Dr. Slivinske is amazing. He makes his own tests (I HATE those test-bank teachers). Through years of experience He has learned to read his students knowing when to pause his lecture and pull some crazy facts out of thin air to pull the listener back in. He grades on a automatic 20 point curve. Only 2 Tests.
Alec Slivinske is a great Economics teacher. He is funny and easy, make sure you write down what he says because it will be on the test. He pretty much tells you whats on the test. Only two test and easy if you study everything what he wrote and said what will be on the test. Tests are multiple choice.
Alec Slivinske is hands down my favorite professor so far. I look him for micro and macro economics. He is consistent which for someone like me is really important. He is entertaining and informed. I knew nothing about economics when I walked into his class room and left with the urge to learn more. Use study groups in his class they help.
I'm not a C student, but I got a C in his class. First ever. Unless economics makes sense to you before entering the classroom, I wouldn't recommend taking his class; if it does already make sense to you, you may leave confused after his scattered lectures. Grade consists of only two tests for the entire semester, 30-ish questions each.
Professor Slivinske's lectures were very long and he would usually go off topic about something random but interesting for about 30 minutes. If you miss a class you better have a buddy send you their notes because the lectures don't follow the book (save your money). Only two tests and his old tests are accessible online.
Professor Slivinske knows his stuff but doesn't really know how to teach it. He goes off on tangents sometimes which makes following him confusing. He's very cocky and stated at the beginning of class only to go to his office hours because the tutoring center is wrong. Take notes on everything he says because it's his way or no way.
He is straight forward, but highly arrogant. He synthesizes his own definitions and will refute published work with his convictions. He knows the topic very well, but he doesn't always convey the material easily. He uses abbreviations for everything which accumulate to a giant mess while studying. Not a bad experience, but there are better profs.
Very rude professor. Doesn't care about students. Tests are very tough. I wouldn't recommend this professor. He does do 20 point curve on tests but not worth it be coz tests are tough.
The only reason I am writing this review is to encourage fellow econ students to not be afraid! Don't let the other reviews steer you away from Dr. Al. Sure, it's not a class you can skip and still pass - you will definitely have to do your part in preparing for exams, but everything on the exam are concepts he specifically states will be tested.
Not a good professor. I took him over first session summer. He isn't a tough grader nor are his tests hard. I made an A in both tests. He just doesn't know how to teach properly. He let us out about 45 min early (2 hour class). Goes off on tangents every 5 mins, which is distracting. I'll be surprised if anyone in class actually learned anything.
Extremely well educated on his field. He has a lot of funny jokes and stories to make sure no one get bored of the lecture. Sometimes referred to the graph in textbook yet he will show it on the screen anyway. All test material based on his own stuff( sometimes have conflicts with textbook). YOU DO NOT NEED A TEXTBOOK.
Don't skip class because you will miss something that he explicitly says will be on the test. 2 tests determine your entire grade for the semester. Goes on tangents ranting about Austin traffic and Fox News a lot. Comes off as a bit pretentious since he rejects a lot of established economic principles and sometimes teaches his own, but still great.
More emphasis on understanding rather than tests and gratuitous assignments, easy to follow, uses countless examples and analogies, and funny.
I personally used the textbook a lot for further clarification and had to do a lot of research and learning on my own because he does not explain definitions of concepts well or how they fit together. If you can get past his 2 week long (not joking) lecture on evolution, he's okay. I will say that he is willing to work with you if you are stuggling
I love Al!! He is one of my favorite all time professors. He can be kinda cocky but that's the way he is! He helps you if you ask for it and is very patient. There are only two tests, no quizzes or homework. But you need to show up to class and listen to the lecture because he will say when something is specifically on the test.
Advice to you: -DO NOT SKIP CLASS. He literally says this will/will not be on test and you will be lost if you skip -First test is a lot easier. Get a great grade on this and you'll thank yourself when you take the harder final. 2 tests for grade, no assignments/quizzes -DO NOT BUY TEXTBOOK. His tests are solely from his packets he hands out.
Give yourself a favor and don' t take his class or you will regreat it since he is the only professor in the faculty who knows about economy according to him and good luck learning his own approach of economy since he doesn't use the text book
Go to the Test review before the test day, and you'll easily get an A. I took him for both Micro and Macro. Great professor, but easily gets off topic all the time. Economics is not an easy class.
starting to lose hope in passing this course but Dr. slivinske assured me that as long as I attend class he will help me pass the course, so go to class take lots of notes & participate. Book is not mandatory. Always available during office hours & willing to help. truly cares about his students& passionate about what he teaches.
Funny lectures, usually hands out his own packets that are revised versions of general topics for the test, so the book is unnecessary. Attend every class session to understand examples for the tests (total of 2) since it's more based on his views. His green handout usually has review questions and old test Q's, which partially cover the tests.
He loves to go off topic so be ready to remember what kind of pizza he likes instead of a really important formula he just flies over.... quite annoying.
I took him for micro and macro. Got an A in both classes just do the review packets like a million times and you will pass!
I took him for both economics cases and he is great! He gives a packet for supply and demand and old tests- practice those a million times. Seriously, I feel like I can graph S & D in my sleep. Take good notes for the algebraic problems. Study group is really really recommended. Just two test!
Chill professor. Does not give out homework. Grade is based on 2 test but did give 20 points curve for each test. Do the practice-test on the blackboard for your first test and you will be fine. But for the 2nd test I don't think the practice test is that helpful. So score well on your first test might help you if you do bad on the second test.
Professor Slivinske gets off topic a lot which makes the class entertaining, but I really didnt learn much because of that. The tests are easy as long as you show up to class (as he gives you a lot of answers to the tests) and study the notes he hands out as well as reviewing the past tests from prior years. 2 total grades as tests.
I LOVE Al! I took him for both micro and macro and he is one of the best professors I've had at ACC. I found his lectures to be very engaging, I never once lost track. Another added perk is that you don't need to buy the book. He gives handouts, study those and pay attention in class and you're guaranteed to succeed. TAKE HIM!
If you show up every class and you take notes, you will 100% pass the class. He will tell you what will be on the test, and how to answer. TAKE NOTES. Easy A.
Only two tests, but you can make a total of 240 points on them, so the final grade is still out of 200 points, but you get an extra 40 points to help you out. His lectures and handouts are really all you need and as long as you read those and pay attention then you're golden.
He is definitely one of the best professors I've ever had in ACC! He has a 20 points curve on both tests. If you print out his test reviews and study those, you'll be fine. Listen when he says what's going to be on the test and read the notes carefully. You can bring a written index card to final test. So easy to make an A in his class. He rocks!
He goes off topic a lot. His lectures can be tough to follow. 10% of his lectures are need to know and are needed for exams. the rest is his views on politics. You're only graded on two tests, so the pressure is on. You don't need the book for the class; he gives you so many handouts it can be easy to lose track of.
Goes off topic, but tells great stories. Only had two tests so make sure to study. The worksheets are useful. The class before the test he tells you whats on it, so make sure to write it down. The second test is a lot harder than the first. You get an index card for the second. Practice tests help if you are totally lost/need points. 40 pt curve
he is amazing and tells great stories. his tests are not difficult. the first one is easy and the 2nd you gotta work for it. I feel like you definitely need the book. He goes over the material like you already know it. However he is available if you need extra help. overall amazing class!!!
You will never meet a man as practical as this professor. He attempts to create a stress-free atmosphere and an environment filled with real world examples, and he does not fail to do so successfully. He only grades on 2 exams, and while you have to work for them, you will never come across any trick questions. Take his classes!
Al is quite a character. His lectures are funny, but can be off topic at times, and you can tell he cares about what he's teaching. Most of what you will need to succeed is given to you by Al. I would recommend reading the book too. Two tests in the class. First test is pretty easy, Second test is a harder but not impossible. He is a fair grader.
Good professor, lectures can be kinda boring. He gives handouts that will be used to study for the tests. Only 2 tests, DO THE REVIEW! i recommend going over it well before the test so you have an idea of what to expect. He tells you exactly how many questions are on the tests the class before the exam. Test curve.
I took professor Slivinski for Macro and Micro. Gosh, he is amazing it is an honor to take a class with him. Just study and write notes and you will take an A.
Al is a great professor. He is funny and makes jokes due to his theory of having a mental break every 20 minutes to increase information retainment. Going to take him again for sure.
IMPORTANT: -ONLY 2 TESTS, NO other grades. You get plenty of study material, which you HAVE to do in order to pass. No extra credit. -Book is optional, but id recommend getting it anyway. This material is well explained it class, but you'll need the extra examples. -Teacher does not use black board to post grade -Fun class to take, but you cant sla
This is the chillest class I ever had! It's up to you if you want to get a good grade or not! If you want to get an A, pay attention because he tells you exactly what will be on the test. NO HW/QUIZ. If you are a self learner, this is the right class for you! EASY A as long as you are willing to work for it!
The class was very relaxed with only two tests. The first test is easier than the second so be sure to get a good grade on the first one. He's a funny, easygoing guy and lectures were interesting. He gives you packets for material. I passed without the book, but the book might be helpful to get. There's no homework, but there's practice tests.
Took the class in the summer and it was very chill. There are only two tests and no hw or quizzes. The first one is really easy, but the second one not as much. Do really good on the first test and the second test you won't have to stress as much. I just took notes and recorded his lectures on my phone to hear for important stuff and I got an A
Your grade is based on two tests! His lectures are super funny, although he does go a bit fast. He gives plenty of extra credit on the test and even provides a study guide before the test! Clearly tells you what is going to be tested, but you have to study and understand the content to earn an A!
1 of my worst teachers I had. NEVER lectures about econ, always talkin about "good old days"& has 1 note before dismissing. 2 tests, hard & gives STACK of "useful" packets to study with. moved to online b/c corona but gave us 9 quizzes all graded as a TEST w/out warning. Qts obvious copy&paste & tweaked,so some were wrong. Emailed him&he denied it
I started off wanting to like the class, but there wasnt even a class to like. Let me explain. He would start lecture, write 1-2 things down and dismiss us. Normally that would be cool, but not for something as complex as Economics. Two tests are the only grades. Total of roughly 300 points all together. You fail if you fail one test. Dont take
Only had 2 tests the whole course, no homework, no quizzes, etc. It was very easy to pass the test because he would specifically say "this will be on the test." His lectures were very easy to follow. He was fun and nice teacher. Not to mention he let us out of class so early, it really spoils you from other professors!
Unclear about this class, I wish it had some type of power points or something to keep me on track. Only 2 exams and yes there is a credit curve but that did not help me. Wording of exams were weird and I did not do so well. He told me this class was not for me and he was not the professor for me.
I took has class because the format of only having 2 tests seemed very attractive to me. I appreciated not being bogged down with hw and assignments. With that said, it's up to you to put in the time. The grade you get will undoubtedly be the one you deserve. I'll already sign up to take the 2302 class.
The course is best summed up in one word: cryptic. Very hands off with virtually no interaction with the professor. That stated, I didn't fully mind the two exam structure of the class. The textbook and assigned handouts are key for success though.
He was ok and the course was self paced, you are only graded on two exams one in the beginning of the semester and one at the end with quizzes for each chapter of the textbook. My gripe is that the quizzes were only worth one point each and the exams were worth 120 each so if you fail an exam you may not be well off since there isn't other grades.
Had to drop the class because I wasn't able to take the first exam due to a car crash (keep in mind, he moved the 1st test deadline twice). Took this class for a fun summer credit but "Dr" Alec wants to be a gatekeeper. Told me I had to drop the class instead of reopening the exam (takes 30 seconds). save yourself from terrible profs like this.
Professor Slivinske made learning economics extremely easy! He has so much knowledge including his own economic theories, which I highly enjoyed. Theres only 2 grades, which are exams (that are curved) and the reading is manageable. I took the 5 week class and am very glad I did. I highly recommend Professor Slivinske to anyone.
I am unsure about this professor. There is no homework and only two exams that make up your whole grade. He gives you a few handouts and some videos to watch. His emails are very vague and not in complete sentences. I don't doubt his economics knowledge, I just wish he was more engaging and gave us more material to help us practice.
Dr. Al is definitely a nice professor, he was able to work with me and others when we had a schedule conflict involving his final test. He is not a good teacher though. Most lectures were unneeded (learned nothing, or the same thing as last class) and just plain boring. The textbook and course outline will be your best friend.
I took the five week summer course at 8:20am, worst decision ever. He goes on a lot of tangents and you never really know what he's talking about. Only two non-cumulative MCQ exams, easy enough to study for if you read the textbook. He makes it so easy to fall asleep. Tells you exactly what's on the test. Let us out early almost every day.
Really loved Professor AL his lectures made learning macros really easy to understand. He did go on some tangents but overall I found him really interesting. He only gives two test as you cumulative grade in the class. However, you are allowed a note card for each and they are relatively straight forward and curved pretty heavily.
I took the 5-week summer course. There are only 2 tests; highly curved & allow for an index card. Lectures often go on tangents & I never knew what he was talking about also fell asleep a lot. Textbook & study guide are your saviors. He tells you exactly what's on the test the day before. A lot of outside individual learning, but easy A if you try.
Lots of people like taking professor's classes because professor only gives two exams. However, his lectures are not structured at all and always go off topic. You MUST study on your own to be able to understand those economic concepts. I do not recommend anybody who really wants to learn to take his class.
I definitely wished there were more than just two grades but honestly he was a really good teacher if you try to pay attention to his lectures, he does know what he is talking about and is always available for help if you need it. The exams are not that difficult if you look at all the stuff he has posted on blackboard.
He is an incredible person and great professor willing to help.
He was so slay!
Had amazing lectures in class, very funny. Has a textbook but I never used it and just relied on what he taught in class. Whole grade is based on two tests, you get a note card to write notes on for them, USE IT. I didn't prepare for the first test which ended in me getting a B when it could've very easily been an A. 10/10 liked the class.
Still one of the best teachers I have ever had
He is clear and concise about what his course holds and teaches you everything necessary for your success. His lectures are as long as the lesson needs and he's a funny guy, so it's a good time while learning. As long as you listen and study, you will be good.
Only two tests, he goes off topic a lot during lectures, and makes it very to understand economic concepts, study outside of class if you want to pass but also show up because he teaches things that are on the test. Was very hard to hear him too.
He is a sweet and funny old man who genuinely loves what he does, and loves to tell stories. There is only two grades/exams. He goes off topic a lot but it does not matter because he tells you exactly what's on the test PLUS you get a cheat sheet card. He really wants us to succeed and enjoy economics. 10/10 person. Highly recommend.
Exam 1 learn all you can about market analysis, come to class and learn how he draws the graphs. Exam 2 study terminology from lecture, notes, and PowerPoint. Make study groups and come to the lecture because some days he gives the answers to test questions. TRUST ME I ACED THE CLASS, he gives you the pieces, put them together.
I passed the class and learned a bit about economics, but I can attribute almost all of that to online research and working in a group. He spends most of the lecture (the 15-30 minute lecture, he always lets you out early) telling random stories and talking politics. Thankfully, the tests are super easy if you memorize what he tells you to.
The grade is only made up by 2 exams. Read and make sure you understand the textbook readings, but if he ever says to not read specific pages then don't because that means he doesn't agree with them. And he makes the test and the answer is based on what he determines to be correct. Overall a VERY EASY CLASS.
He really just skims over topics, not a lot of solid teaching. Talks personal stories and politics a lot. Classes ran 10-30 minutes before he let us out (though he had another class at another campus right after the class, so idk if it was just a special circumstance) He hand feeds you the answers if you show up though. Very easy if you try at all
Professor Slivinske's lectures can be hit-or-miss, but the class is manageable if you engage with the textbook and use study tools like unstuck study. Grab that note card and you'll do well on the exams!
To be honest, he was a good professor at first but he gets off topic a lot which is frustrating not dedicated to the micro or macro classes. If you are looking at taking his class beware that there is only 2 assignments all tests, you would be better off taking a different professor and a one that gives out more credit such as hw and quizzes.
super sweet guy, but he doesn't teach. if you have no prior knowledge of micro, be fully prepared to teach yourself absolutely everything. only 2 grades in the whole class, they are exam 1 and exam 2. good luck, I would suggest taking another professor
By far the worst professor I've ever had in my life. His lectures are complete gibberish, he won't teach you a single thing. Lectures consist of reading titles of textbook chapters or concepts, then talking about dancers on YouTube or cheesy biscuits from Red Lobster. Avoid at all costs, unless you love teaching yourself and hoping it turns out.
Only graded on two tests, he gives you good study material for them, however, does not teach the content. His lectures are normally about 30 minutes long and consist of complaining about Trump or a job he has done. He skims over the content in the textbook, asks for questions and ends lecture. Grading criteria is pro-student though, read syllabus.
Cool guy, hates trump, genuinely wants you to succeed, but you have to teach yourself. Hit-or-miss lectures, either actually teaches concepts and drops test hints or yaps for 15 minutes and ends class. From what I read prior, he's should've been a good prof, maybe he dropped the ball with us, but the only 2 grades being exams was insane. Good luck.
Professor Slivinske is one of the best economics professors I've ever had. His teaching style is incredibly clear and engaging, which makes understanding economic concepts much easier. He genuinely cares about his students' success—he regularly offers extra credit opportunities and always shares helpful details and example questions before exams.
Perfect professor if you want a relaxed learning experience, easy and enjoyable all the way through. The professor is very funny and has many stories that help learning.
He is extremely forgiving and personable. He gives out insane test curves like it's nothing. His lectures are very short and are almost entirely over the exams questions. The course is graded off of two exams, but the curves make this class impossible to fail. But be prepared to have this course be almost entirely self study based.
Professor Slivinski is genuinely the most talented educator I've ever had. His humor makes complex econ feel effortless and intuitive. Only 2 exams, perfect class length, and you'll actually retain everything. He sets the gold standard for teaching. Take his class without hesitation!
Honestly, Slivinski is a legend. Dude makes econ actually fun with his humor and breaks everything down so clearly. Only 2 tests all semester and classes are short but you learn everything you need. Best professor I've had by far. If you need an econ class, this is THE one to take. You won't regret it!
He's very caring and lenient on grading. Throws in 20 point curves like its nothing. However, Slivinske's lectures are pointless. He rants about 24 hour H-E-B and Chuy's, and teaches like you're already an economist. Points out chapters he doesn't like, and replaces them like its nothing. Expects you to read the entire textbook for each test.
When I first arrived at 2301 class, I was genuinely interested and excited to learn about economics. I was instead met with a class that had 2 multiple choice exams that cover way to much content, no extra credit, an unorganized syllabus that didn't have ANY DATES on it, and an extremely wise professor who can't teach well. Would Not Recommend.
Professor Slivinske was a pretty cool guy, that being said he was not a great teacher. The only grades were two exams, and his lectures were incredibly difficult to follow, not only that but he would basically ramble for 15 minutes and then end class right after. If you take this class, expect to be teaching yourself a lot of the content...
Professor Slivinske is a great professor. His class is not that hard, but yes, if you take him be expecting to learn most of the things on your own(using the textbook).I had him for Micro and Macro classes, and got an A on both. His tests are also not that hard if you study the textbook. Overall, he is a very sweet and caring person.Loved his class.
