Such a good teacher. Super cool and helpful. Does everything to help his students. Would love to take another class with him!
Normal Bio lab work & grading - but D'Brot is the professor that every student wants/thinks they would be if they were teaching - so genuine , encouraging, & a great resource for info on post-grad lab work
Great guy! He really wants you to get the material so, he will answer any question that you have. If you do the work you're suppose to, then you will get a good grade. Would def take him again.
Professor D'Brot is the epitome of an excellent professor. He truly has a passion for the subject matter and does everything in his power to help students succeed. He created several beneficial resources, such as personal conferences and study guides. He is warm and kind, and lets his personality shine through. Wonderful teacher as well as person.
He is super caring and intelligent. Really wants his students to learn and do well.
Already managed to tank the majority of our class's grade, and it's March. He words the questions so weirdly and confusingly that they become a test of your ability to solve mind games rather than the actual material. When there's only 35 questions that could cover any of the eight, three-page study guides, there's not a lot of room for error.
Profesor D'brot is very chill, kind, and fun! He makes biology even more interesting and always relates difficult concepts in a more understandable way. He always offers office hours and is super helpful! Anyone who gets a poor grade in his class is purely not putting in the effort.
Dr. D'Brot is super flexible and tries his best to be generous to his students. His lectures are engaging and usually include some humor. This was his first semester teaching this course, so there were a few bumps in the road. However, those usually weren't his fault, and he always made up for it. Overall, he is an outstanding professor.
D'Brot is very friendly and does his best to make even boring subjects somewhat interesting. He's curved at least half of our tests. Warning: the tests cover a LOT of material, so you need to start studying way in advance. His tests are pretty specific, too. It's manageable, but not crammable.
I had him during his first semester at SMU and he was so flexible and did his best to make sure that everyone in the class got the best grade they possibly could. I hope I get the chance to take a class from him in the future because he was absolutely awesome. Lectures were always interesting and he's young and very relatable. A must take for bio.
D'Brot is a great professor! Our class had a few problems, but he always made up for it with some sort of extra credit. He is great about connecting with students and is super willing to help you in any way. Come to lecture, but he does post recordings. He isn't boring and tries to make even the worst topics fun. Would 100% take again!
Good lecturer. He is amazing!!!! He made this class super fun.
Great professor, really caring.
Dr. D'Brot was honestly a really great professor. You can tell he cares about each student individually and is willing to work with you. He has an open-door policy that is very useful to students. He sometimes had trouble translating his lectures to test questions, but after he would go back and make sure all questions were fair. Would take again!!
Dr. D'brot is a very fun and interesting professor. I loved having him for Bio 2. He was very helpful and it's obvious he is very passionate about the subject. He never fails to keep a lighthearted atmosphere when teaching and is very eager to help his students learn. His tests were not bad as long as you study and he is a lenient grader.
Dr. D'Brot is a fantastic professor and I cannot recommend him enough. As long as you pay attention in class, take notes, and complete the study guides you will do fine. He is also fantastic because he is very energetic and funny which is extremely refreshing for a lecture heavy class. He is the best professor I have had so far, definitely worth it
Great teacher that makes the class fun. Incredibly easy going and accommodating/caring. The way the class is outlined requires a decent amount of effort in order to do well, but enjoyable nonetheless.
PRO -very nice, caring, genuinely wants to get to know you -loves teaching and makes phyla memorization bearable -loves his students -he gives little life advice and makes sure his students always keep their stress in perspective -one of the most OPENMINDED science teachers at SMU CON -the tests didn't always reflect my mastery of the material.
I thoroughly enjoyed being in Dr. D'Brot's class this semester. Although it was clear he was adjusting to his first semester teaching, he was very easygoing and genuinely wanted each and every one of us to succeed. His tests were difficult but he generally curved the final grades. He was so personable and accessible. Would recommend this professor!
Dr. D'Brot is awesome!! I would definitely take a class with him again. You can tell he's passionate about science which makes listening to lectures easier and he's just an overall cool guy.
D'Brot was an amazing teacher for his first semester, being very forgiving with grades and policies. He's funny, helpful, and genuinely excited about the course material. You don't really need to go to class to get an A, really if you memorize the power point slides you'll be fine, but showing your face everyday in class never hurts!
Dr. D'Brot is a true blessing. He really cares about you and is willing to talk about anything with you outside of class. He is super passionate about biology, his family, and life in general, and his positive energy is something to always look forward to. Don't underestimate the tests - study hard and you may be exempt from the final :)
Very enthusiastic, fun lectures. Easy A if you know what's on the study guides he gives.
He's the best. Take his class.
He is amazing. You really learn.
He is the best! Take the class!!!
Hes great for non majors bio
Dr. D'Brot is a great non majors bio professor. He makes the class very interesting a super fun. The class is not meant to be much pressure. All the tests are take home. If you go to the classes, take the quizzes, do well on tests, and attend the labs, then you will for sure get an A.
Nicest guy you will ever meet. He is always willing to go above and beyond to help out his students and is always available to talk. Show up and go to class and you will do well.
I took this non-major class this semester. Dr. D'Brot is a real gem! His lecture is awesome and generally a Easy A. Strongly recommend (DON'T BUY THE TEXTBOOK, SLIDES ARE ENOUGH)
Hes great! Youll love him for non majors tho, I dont know about majors. But Im sure hes great there too.
Wish i could tag more descriptions; he is respected, hilarious, amazing lectures, caring, would take again. The tests were open note online take home. Quiz and discussions that are mandatory attendance. Greatest professor, really tries to get to know each and every student, i cannot praise him high enough, he made my first semester awesome.
He is the professor I love the most for my first semester in SMU. He gives me strength to finish the course strong! Loved to take his class again later!
Dr. D'Brot is not out to fail you but to help you truly learn something. He's just about the warmest professor out there and really wants to see you succeed. I would definitely recommend taking a class from him at your time at SMU. Great person and educator.
Dr. DBrot is the best, hes young and has a great personality that makes him really easy to relate with. The class itself isnt tough, just need to attend lab and do the assignments for an easy A.
Dr D'Brot is the most warm and amazing professor. He's a great lecturer and makes the class really fun. Easily approachable outside class, and genuinely wants all his students to learn and succeed. One of my favorites!!! Highly recommend!!!
definitely take this professor
Seriously a genuine guy. He really cares about students as people, and personally interacted with everyone in the class. He seems like someone you could actually be friends with outside of class. Its apparent that he honestly enjoys teaching. The lab itself was not terribly challenging, as long as you don't forget your pre-labs and quizzes.
D'Brot is probably the nicest teacher I have ever had. It is obvious that he genuinely cares about his students and loves teaching. Five tests in this class including the final. All of them were open note and four out of the five were take home. Highly recommend for students who need to fulfill science credits and want a class that is interesting.
D'Brot? More like D'BRO. A lip ring and long hair, listens to Mumford and Sons, rides his bike to work. More hipster than me, honestly. He is absolutely amazing -- he really cares about his students and you can tell he loves what he does. His test review sessions are actually helpful too!
The most genuine teacher I've had at SMU. Super great guy who will make an effort to know you. I went into office hours a total of maybe 3 times and he knew my name and made an effort to say hi to me whenever he saw me. Tests are clear and the final is old test questions. Definitely take him.
D'Brot is one of the best teachers here. He really cares about his students succeeding, and is just an all around nice teacher. There was one week where the majority of the students had a chem test on the same day as the scheduled biology test, and he heard about it, and moved the test. Such a great guy. Looking forward to his biochem lab class!
If you want an A you definitely need to prep for the tests. Just take his advice on how to study and youll do great. If you have a high enough grade at the end before the final, you dont have to take the final, so really try your best on all tests. Office hours are amazing! Fun Lecture, and easy to follow! Would definitely take class again!
Best biology teacher at SMU. Goes above and beyond for his students and genuinely cares about you and your grades. So flexible in and outside of class, would take his class again if I could. Super cool professor 10/10!!!!!
Great guy+knowledgeable professor. Exams reflect material from class discussion+powerpoints so if you study and go to class, you will do well. Great in his office hours--wants you to succeed. Only complaints 1) my personal lack of interest in taxonomic classification 2) frequent disorganization re:exams (key was wrong, changing coverage, etc).
One of the best professors Ive ever had. Willing to talk out your grade for you and help in ANY way possible inside and outside of class. Always interesting, a little cheesy. Id take him for every bio class for the rest of college if I had the chance. Be prepared to study but study guides are just like the tests and he is always accessible.
Dr. DBrot is one of the most caring and intelligent professors Ive had at SMU. He really does genuinely care about every single student in his classes and learns everyones name. No question is too dumb and truly will work one-on-one with a student until they understand. I would take DBrot for every class if possible!!
Dr. D'Brot is one of my favorite biology professors at SMU. He genuinely cares about all of his students and will go above and beyond to ensure they understand the course material (and a little extra). I would highly recommend him to anyone I know.
He does pop quizzes so go to class! A little disorganized so just bear with him lol
Professor D'Brot made the class interesting and fun! He provides lecture outlines and clearly indicates the terms and concepts that will be on the tests which was really helpful. If you go to class and do the work you will do great!
One of the best professors I've ever had. He truly cares about whether or not the students learn the material. He spends extra time on difficult material even if that means switching the lecture schedule around.
Took him for intro to bio 2. He actually cares about what he teaches which makes the class much more enjoyable. As long as you go to class at least once a week it is easy, just be there for attendance quizzes. Wish I had gotten to know him out of the classroom bc is a chill guy
Great guy. All the other positive reviews are accurate. Take this guy.
Dr. Dbrot is a really nice guy who cares a lot about his students. If you study using his guidlines you will do very well. He is passionate about the material, answers questions well, and is a very fair grader. Great professor.
Dr. DBrot is one of the best teachers I have ever had. He really cares about all his students and wants them to succeed. He taught me how to study the right way for Biology and I did so much better on the exams. I also understood the material much more. He is always available outside of class if you need help. Hope I am in a class of his again.
GO TO CLASS. You think bc it's PollEv you can skip & just take it but he knows your face I PROMISE and he KNOWS you don't go. Pay attention in lecture bc he tells you a lot of what you don't need to study, do study guides & know your stuff. Go to his office hours - I wish I had! He's really interesting, young (rare at SMU) & truly cares!
Dr. D'Brot is an amazing professor that really cares about his students. He knows what he is talking about and can explain everything in really basic terms.
Dr. D'brot is a knowledgable biology professor, who puts in his knowledge and expertise into the course.
He is thus far my favorite professor. Despite his wife being in the middle of a pregnancy, he was dedicated to his students. He was always updating the power point slides to make them better, had great review guides and test prep, and his office hours were always packed. He truly cares for his students and their education.I highly recommend him!
Dr. D'Brot is awesome I struggled in bio and he really showed he cared and did all he could to help me. He's very approachable and very likable. He also happens to be a good teacher and he does all that he can to make bio which can be dry very interesting. With his help even the bio challenged like myself can do well. Thank you Dr. D'Brot you rock!
Real great guy and amazing professor, super cool and kind.
Dr. D'brot is a kind and extremely understanding professor! It's nice having a professor for a change who geninunely cares for their student's success, and motivates and inspires them to succeed. He is great at taking a difficult concept and breaking it down to be more understandable. Overall, definitely take him!!!
Dr Dbrot is a great professor and he truly cares about his students. Go to office hours. He shows how much he loves what he teaches. Attendance is mandatory, 3 skips per usual. Random pop quizzes each week for a quiz and attendance grade. Holds review sessions before tests, go to those and fill out all study guides he posts online.
Very accessible outside of class. He records his lectures so if you need to skip it's no problem. Tests are based very much on his slide shows.
Fantastic prof, maybe the best I've had in college. Great lectures, cares deeply for students and very flexible; you can ask him anything. Attendance enforced by 2-3 min pop quiz one day each week, mostly open note. Tests count for everything else. Would highly recommend Dr. D'Brot
I loved Dr. DBrots class and he was such a good professor. He made sure all of the kids knew what they were doing and the tests were exactly from the lecture. No new pop up crazy questions. You definitely need to study to do well, but other than that it was a really awesome class.
Dr. D'brot is an gem. He is one of the most caring professors I have ever met and is so accommodating for student athletes, which is hard to find in a professor. His lectures are great and interesting and tests are a breeze if you study. He is a really big reason I love being a bio major.
Absolutely love this guy he is the best teacher I've ever had. The class is pretty easy if you put the work in. Go to class because he has collaborative pop quizzes. Do the study guides as you the learn material in lecture and spend more time diagramming as test gets closer. 5 tests and he drops 1. Wish I could take him for every class!
D'Brot was easily my favorite teacher of freshman year. He's very caring about each of his students and keeps lectures entertaining. Also take advantage of his office hours and review sessions because they are very useful for whats on the exams. Class is very doable if you keep up with his study guides.
Dr. D'Brot was the best professor I had all freshman year! He made a constant effort to make everything he was teaching interesting. He is always available outside of class to work with you during office hours and hold review sessions before exams. He knew everyone's names from a big lecture hall within the first few weeks of class!
Dr. DBrot is an awesome professor. Hes down to earth, funny, and keeps class interesting. He also is available to ask questions and get clarification on material outside of class, and he posts a lot of diagrams and videos on canvas that are very helpful.
Dr. D'Brot is one of the best professors at SMU! He is caring, accessible outside of class and genuinely wants all of his students to do well. The lectures were always clear and easy to follow. He posts all the lectures online, as well with audio recordings as well which was super helpful! Overall, very happy with this course!
Great teacher loves interaction good guy all tests and quizzes are taken online. Attend lecture And pay attention and your good
Best professor I have ever had. He brings good energy every class and always lightens the mood. As long as you read over the slides everyday, you will receive an A. He really makes you want to attend class because its always interesting. Plus, he has a lip ring so you know he is a Bada$$.
Great dude. Easy Class.
Awesome teacher. Easy class if you just show up.
Excellent professor who gives great lectures that aren't boring
He's such an amazing professor! He knows this class is for non-majors and plans it accordingly. His lectures are pretty interesting and attendance is not mandatory, however, there are polls/discussions occasionally to check if you're in class. 11/10!!
Such a great professor! Acknowledges that this class is for non majors and plans accordingly. Lab is pretty straight forward as well. Really caring guy and is always willing to talk outside of class. 100% would take again.
I dislike science but this class was SO fun and interesting. This is hands down the best professor I have ever had and he is so caring and the content was awesome. I recommend this class to any and everyone :)
Hes great, he does suprised discussions though.
Alex is the best but if you dont listen to lectures, take notes, and study, youll have no idea what he is asking in his exam. If you read deeply, youll ace it.
I really loved having Dr. D'Brot!! He truly does care and genuinely wants you to do well and will help you in any way he can if you reach out to him. You totally don't need the book unless you are confused on something and want extra help because his tests are on lectures only which is nice! Super easy class to do well in if you work hard.
Great Professor, lecture slides are very helpful for test prep. Very doable to get an A. Don't really need textbook
Great professor and a solid choice for intro Biol & is pretty straightforward. If you pay attention during lectures and do what he recommends to study, you should do fine on the tests. Do the Study Guides, they are there for a reason! Drops a test and will exempt you from the final if you get an A on all 5 tests. Practice problems are a nice boost.
Awesome teacher!! Make sure to pay attention in class and make your study guides! He's super engaging. Also make sure you go to his review session before exams! Also he's super flexible and understanding! Thank you Dr. D'Brot!!
Dr. D'Brot taught Biochemistry Lab in a very engaging way and truly cares about everyone succeeding and grasping the material. I would recommend him for this class and any other class. He is always available to answer questions through Canvas or in office hours.
He is a super smart and awesome guy who definitely challenges you in class, but overall if you work hard, yo can get the grade you want/deserve. Very awesome professor.
In short. He is a great teacher, but only if you pay attention. His lectures are actually interesting and he teaches in a way that makes it easy to remember. He wants you to learn, he is not just up there because it is his job. But, if you do not put in theeffort to pay attention, you will not do too well in his class. Also a pretty chill person to
Excellent professor. Makes lectures engaging and can make complex subjects easily understandable. Highly recommend.
If you need Uc credit, take this class. A lot of material, but you will do well if you try. Tests are open note and I learned a lot in this course. Dr. D'brot is my favorite professor at SMU, go talk to him outside of class and you will learn a lot from him. It is a larger class and he still cares and tried to know people's names.
Hes super amazing and his lectures are really interesting. His exams are based on slides so you dont need the textbook and are very fair. He is always very accessible and helpful outside of class during office hours.
took him for bio 2 for my major. great professor. really willing to help. random pop quizzes once a week for attendance, go to class, easy points. don't bother buying the textbook, tests are lecture based
For the non-majors bio class, there are 5 canvas 35 question multiple choice tests, no final. Every week there is a 5 question quiz, but they are super easy and you have 2 tries on canvas to get it right. The lab is also so easy and you are basically guaranteed 100%, and that makes up 40% of your grade. So much easier than high school bio.
Dr. D'brot is a fantastic teacher who puts an insane amount of effort into giving his students many resources. For every class lecture, we got the presentation on Canvas full of helpful pictures, a study guide (literally everything on the test), a diagram, and a practice quiz. He is also very tech-savvy!
D'Brot wants you to succeed and facilitates learning without trying to trick you. Doesn't make things impossible just for the sake of doing so: very fair class. Great human too!
One of the best professors I've ever had! He's truly passionate about what he teaches which makes it exciting to learn from him. He is very organized and gives clear instructions and expectations. You can tell that he really cares about his students not only in terms of our success in the class, but on a personal level also.
Debrot wants everyone to get an A- he knows this is a non-science major class and says he is aware of that. A super cool, young guy who is interesting to listen to. His classes are lecture-based and does pollev, so you can do pollev from home and do not need to go to class. 5 open-note tests and take-home quizzes everyweek.
Great teacher! As I am not a science major, this class made Biology interesting and easy to understand while not requiring much excess work in addition to other classes. Graded by a few online tests and quizzes. Definitely a great class to take!
Don't buy the textbook. This guy does everything possible to make sure you do well in the class. This includes study guides, practice exams, quizzes, video links, diagrams, and review sessions. Attendance is rarely taken but I would recommend going to class. If you use all of the resources he gives you you'll have no trouble making a good grade.
Hes honestly a great professor!! Make sure you actually go to his lectures because attendance is a participation grade. Hes a super chill professor and is always open to answer your questions or clarify anything. Highly recommend taking his course!!
One of my favorite professors at SMU. Makes class super engaging and teaches in a way that really helps the student.
Really great guy - entertaining and engaging lectures. Take him for any classes you might need for graduation/major reqs.
I took his class for majors and I loved it. D'Brot is very sweet and keeps his lectures interesting. His study guides are a god-send, use them and you'll do very well. If you get over a 93 on all his exams you get to exempt the final and that helped me a LOT so try and aim for that!
Professor D'Brot is approachable, likable, clear & concise, and clearly passionate about and knowledgable in biology. I took this course online (due to COVID-19) in a month during summer term. He made the course as enjoyable as possible given those two factors! Great teaching style, fun, eager to help you, and wants you to succeed. No complaints!
truly one of the best professors i've ever had . . . if given the opportunity, do not hesitate to take his course
I took this class as a non-major and even though I didn't do as well as I would've liked, D'Brot was extremely helpful throughout the entirety of the course. He genuinely cares about his students and always makes sure we have a firm grasp on what's going on. He also asks about our personal lives and is just an all around caring man. Chillest prof!
Great guy and enjoyable class. He really made the class interesting from start to finish. I hope to take another one of his classes.
Everyone says "easy A," do not take this class for granted. I don't pay attention in class and thought I could study real quick and do well. Nope. Exams are multiple-choice but trick questions. Lecture quizzes weekly are word-for-word from slides. Discussion posts due every week. NOT as easy as some make it sound. You have to put in the effort.
Literally one of the best profs I've taken at SMU - if you need a science credit to graduate, make sure to take this class. If you listen to the lectures and take notes you're fine - all of the tests are open note, open Internet, etc. D'Brot is literally so nice and gives you so many opportunities for extra credit
A very easy class and a very knowledgeable and caring professor. A lecture-heavy class but all tests and quizzes are open book and you have the whole day to do it. Loves talking with students and relating content to current events. Would definitely take him again!
Amazing Professor. This is the second class that I have had with him. Very clear in his lectures, laid back, and entertaining. Also, there is always extra credit and he is always open to questions. If you are taking Biology, you will not be disappointed if you take him.
Such an amazing professor. He loves teaching and connecting with student. If you are ever confused about a concept or anything, book office hours with him and he will help you. Tests are all closed note but if you learn the material, you will be fine. Test questions are more concepts and examples rather than terms and defintions.
Literally cannot say enough great things about Dr. D'Brot. Class is lecture heavy but he really makes them interesting so I actually enjoy doing the work. Really knowledgeable and such a genuinely nice person too. If you're confused he's super happy to talk and help you review in office hours. If you have the opportunity to take his class, do it.
Professor D'Brot fantastic. He is easily accessible and happy to help if you're struggling and will even reach out if there's anyway he feels he can help you with your grade. He provides a lot of opportunities for extra credit and you'll feel like you're actually learning a lot (even as an asynchronous class). Definitely recommend taking him!
Dr. D'Brot is a great professor and really wants to see all of his students succeed. The tests cover a lot of material which makes them kind of hard but not unmanageable. Take advantage of office hours if you have questions because he does not respond to emails frequently. Only negative about him is that he doesnt use an oxford comma.
DBrot is one of the greatest teachers ive had. It is definitely a class with a lot of material but he truly wants you to succeed. He makes lectures interesting and tries to simplify all processes for better understanding. Not an easy class, but if you ask for help you will recieve!
Great teacher. Make sure to do any extra credit.
He is super engaging! I loved his class. For once I felt like I really learned a lot in a biology class. The workload is reasonable. His lectures are long but great, and he simplifies very well difficult topics. His canvas page is a little wonky but that was no problem. His tests at times were difficult but not impossible!
Awesome professor! Even with fully virtual classes, he was able to make it extremely engaging and always had energy in his recorded lectures, which was severely lacking in other classes. He is always able to answer questions whenever needed and is very kind. His diagramming assignments are a great tool, and his lectures are very conclusive.
Best professor there is! Take him you wont regret it
Hes awesome! Take him! Lots of opportunities to do extra credit, if you can. He cares a lot about his students, and it is clear he wants you to learn. He really values his students as individuals, and while tests are a serious part of the grade, he also realizes they arent everything. DBrot is one of the best profs out there; a gem at SMU.
I very much enjoyed his class and I think he is an excellent professor overall. He allows for an occasional mess up as long as you are willing to make up for it. He is clear and communicates well about what is needed to know. There is no textbook reading required, although it can help. He also has a predisposition for the occasional joke/meme.
Easily my favorite professor at SMU. Even as a non-biology major D'Brot's class was easy to follow and do well in if you took the time to study and reach out during office hours.
Biology is enjoyable in his class. He guides freshmen students to form better study habits abd provides an ample amount of study material for full mastery. He seems like someone i would enjoy having a conversation with outside of class. Memorize the study guides and you are set for his class. The study habits i learned here will help me later
The GOAT professor. Taken him 3 times and have zero regrets. Always gives tons of extra credit at the end of the semester, and is willing to help if youre struggling. He truly cares about his students, during the ice storm he even offered up a room in his house if anyone needed it. Just truly a good man and great professor.
Dr. D'brot has been one of the best professors at SMU so far. He tries to keep his lectures interesting and gives you an abundance of resources so that you can truly understand the material. It is clear that Dr. D'brot cares about his students and I would 100% recommend.
Hands down one of the best professors at SMU. He really cares about his students and will make sure that you understand any tricky concepts. There is also lots of opportunity for extra credit. In terms of the material for the class, it can be confusing at times, but D'brot tries his best to explain it in a non-confusing and easy way.
He is a very nice and amazing professor. I took the course online and still found his lectures very engaging.
The best biology teacher. He is extremely straight to the point, and really wants his students to succeed. He is always available to help you with topics that are confusing! If you pay attention to lectures and take notes and study you will do well. He has 4 tests and drops one.
By far the best virtual class format Ive ever taken. He truly wants the best for his students and is really good at communicating everything. Definitely take him even if youre not a bio major, he makes the concepts so much easier to understand and helps you do well on exams.
This guy is seriously fantastic. He wants to see you succeed and is very accessible to that end. Im not a Bio major so the class was tough, but this guy is a real gem and I would be more than happy to take a class of his again.
Although it is test and lecture heavy, D'Brot is a great teacher who wants to see you do well. If you do not do well on an Exam he will reach out to meet with you and help you to reach your goals. He gives many resources and if you listen to his recommendations for studying (diagramming) you will do well.
Dr. D'Brot is one of the best professors I've had! He is very intelligent, yet makes the material engaging and easy to understand. Also, he clearly outlines what is expected from you as a student and is always down to help you out; he truly wants to see you succeed. Dr. D'Brot is such a solid guy and I'd recommend him and his classes to anyone!
Hands-down the best BIOL prof here. Funny, caring, and actually makes an effort to get to know you (even over Zoom university). Could not recommend more. If you don't take decent notes, you should learn to do it for this class. Also, the tests aren't easy, so do the study guides he makes-- they aren't the same questions, but the same concepts.
Bio in general is a LOT of info, but D'Brot makes it super bearable bc he uses metaphors and breaks complex processes down into digestible chunks. You def need to put in the work though. He does give lots of guidance on how to study and what to study. You can tell he cares and he is easily accessible in office hours. He cares about your success.
I love DBrot. He is engaged with the students and cares about your life outside of school. He is understanding and also a good teacher. I recoommend
Dr. D'Brot was one of my favorite teachers this year, he is so nice and caring, and truly wants you to succeed. He always asks about your life outside of class and is super accessible in office hours. His class is mainly graded off his test he gives, so make sure to study at least a week in advance, I didn't use the book once.
D'Brot is the one of the best! I hadn't taken biology since freshman year of high school, so I was scared I was going to be behind but the way D'Brot teaches is it makes it easy to comprehend. If you follow his advice, and do all the practice problems/study guide problems/LEAP questions, you should be fine.
Fantastic. Wish he could teach every class in the department.
He is super nice and understanding! It is sometimes hard to talk to him since he rarely answers emails, but he has a TON of office hours to help his students. He provides a lot of information and the tests are based on his lectures. As long as you pay attention, youll do great!! His summer lectures are helpful bc in person he is all over the place
If you are able to keep up with the reading schedule so that you're prepared before class, his lectures are easy to follow, but if you get behind it can be a lot of content to cover all at once. He's very nice though, and if you go to his Office Hours he will help you out.
Dr. D'Brot is truly an amazing prof. He takes time for his students and genuinely wants to make everyone succeed. Studying is a must but if you put in the work you will be absolutely fine and he will support you as best he can!
Incredible professor, makes biology so much fun! He's really fun and easy to talk to outside of class. Very kind and understanding if you need to miss class. His tests are somewhat difficult but if you study you should be fine. Do all of the assignments and extra credit, it will help you. Look over past tests before the final!
I love D'Brot. He truly tries his best to make difficult material easier to understand. The course itself is challenging, but pay attention to lecture and you'll be fine. Make study guides before exams!
Dr. D'Brot is truly the ideal Biology teacher. Lectures are clear and follow the given notes, he is very accessible outside of class, and he is actually engaging with the class. There is no real homework, just some practice problems (3 per lecture) due before tests. The tests are directly from the lecture. Nothing extra from the book. Take D'Brot!
Dr. D'Brot ensures that you always understand what is going on. Little homework, and tests straight from the lectures.
I can not rave more about Dr.D'Brot, not only is he an incredibly smart professor but genuinely cares about his students. I had the pleasure of having him for 2 semesters. If you can find any excuse to take his class definitely do! Dr.D'Brot genuinely cares about each and every one of his students, and it reflects in his lectures.
Dr. dbrot is amazing!! He makes lectures extremely interesting and is so caring. This class is lecture heavy but as long as you study his slides you should be good! He also provides extra credit oppurtunity. take him, hes wonderful
The best professor I have ever had!
He is my favorite teacher ever. I am so glad I had the chance to have him the entire year. He's a supportive and effective teacher that truly cares about you as a person and a student. I hope I can take his class again. He made me want to major in bio.
D'brot is simply the best bio prof. He is super chill and his lectures are SO interesting and engaging. He takes the language of bio and turns it into words that make sense. He is also really good at helping us think critically about what we learn. Lectures are priceless bc he talks about what is on the exams. So go to class!! Lots of extra cred.
Dr. D' Brot is the best professor I've had at SMU! His lectures are engaging, and he genuinely cares about his students succeeding in this course. Definitely take any class he teaches!
Amazing lectures!
This is one of my favorite teachers.
Dr. D'Brot was a great professor. Always accessible outside class, encourages students to come to office hours, definitely only take this class if you are a science major. Content is hard but he does a great job. Overall, I would definitely recommend taking him if you can.
Professor D'Brot is definitely the coolest professor ever. The only thing I didn't really enjoy was watching the recorded lectures just because they take so long. A lot of them are an hour long, you can speed them up but if you actually take notes it ends up being over two hours. The tests aren't bad at all.
Such a likeable personality and so kind. One of my favorite teachers by far. But listen to him when he tells you how to study for the exams, you will fail if you think you can get by just relying on the textbook.
LOVE THIS MAN!!!! Such a brilliant, compassionate person. Every now and then, after I passed his class, I like to get coffee with him and talk about our beliefs of being both scientific and Christian. He's just overall such a great individual.
This guy was great. super kind and helpful but be warned. this class was rough. Definitely made it way more difficult than in past years and I'm an all-A student. Tests were very nitty gritty and I studied like 100 hours and barely got a B+. Sure theres lots of those smart kids but averages were usually 70%. Very tough. Also, I didn't take AP Bio.
I love this man. He is so funny, kind, caring, and wholesome. This class was nice because I didn't have to go to any of the lectures because he was kind enough to record all of them, so I could watch them at home. The class is not an easy A. If you want an A make sure you watch all the prerecorded lectures, in person lectures, and take good notes.
There is a lot of material and and you have to work hard to do well in the course. D'Brot is super nice, a great teacher and always available if you have questions. Exams are challenging but not too bad. The class has gotten more difficult than in previous years, in case you're looking at older reviews. Would definitely recommend him.
Dr. D'brot is a very kind professor. Attendance is mandatory, but you have up to 5 excused absences. The exams are based on his lectures and the PowerPoints. If you make your study sheets and focus on the study questions, your exams are much easier. He also lets you skip the final if you have an A average on all four exams.
His lectures are a little repetitive with his videos so watch the videos well and then annotate notes during the lecture. Study in advance and don't wait til the night before. It's possible but you'll regret it. Class material is not difficult but there's a lot of content. You will not do well if you procrastinate. Very accessible for help and fair
Literally the goat of professors. Obviously, it's a bio class, so your grade is a reflection of how much effort you put in, but D'Brot is super accessible and makes lecture enjoyable. The class format is flipped, watch 30 min to 1 hour long videos and take notes at home. and then review the material / annotate notes in class. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Great professor. his class is lecture heavy but he keeps them interesting. the content itself is a lot and difficult but lectures explain concepts really well. super caring professor.
Very nice professor and available outside of the classroom when needed, however the set up of the class focuses more on quantity than quality. You will have to watch a 50 minute lecture outside of lecture class for HW which is unreasonable and excessive. HW lectures are helpful but way too long and contains a lot of info you don't need for tests.
Great guy but his class structure is bad. For fall 2022 and spring 2023 he switched to a flipped class format. Mandatory hour long (or more) lectures before class. In class is supposed to be practice problems, but we end up only doing like 2. Teaches unnecessary info. The class isn't hard, its just annoying. Amazing person tho!!!
Dr. D'Brot truly loves what he is doing and it shows in his lectures for sure. His class is a flipped format so there are lectures outside of class which he reviews and does practice problems for in class. Sometimes the lectures are long and it can get kind of annoying to keep up with, but he is a great professor which I think makes up for it!
Good at teaching the material. I wish he'd be more open to making improvements when students suggest them. Other than that the material is easy as long as you put it in your head. I forgive him. We should all love each other.
dbrot is the sweetest and funniest professor i have ever had. even though the in person lectures can get a bit repetitive since we watched the recording already, he is very good at explaining things in a way that is easy to understand. he is also just a nice and sensible guy who is understanding. tests aren't that bad i probably study 2 days before
Dr. D'Brot for intro bio 2 is much better compared to intro bio 1. His structure follows exactly, but the lectures and office hours are much more helpful for intro bio 2, since it's his "jam". Two things that helped me the most in this class are office hours and diagramming on my own.
He just doesn't teach. every person I talked to whether sophomore or freshman all said that they never went to class and just got the poll because it was unhelpful going to class. He just wastes your time going over things that make no sense. also makes you memorize way too much and made his final wayyyy too difficult. guess bc he got in trouble
Not sure why he thinks he's such a good teacher. He is full of himself. He need to understand how to listen to students. he makes his tests way too hard for an intro bio course. final was horrible not like the exams. I studied all night and got no sleep and I was prepared for this test and still did not do well because he can't teach
dont go to lecture, just get the poll from someone. waste of time. even his office hours aren't helpful.
overrated professor. not very good and his tests are way to hard. it's very confusing and his lectures dont help much. avoid if you can.
professors here are just not good. he thinks he is teaching people but its just nonsense at this point. jus listen to the students. stop trying to fail them and actually listen to their feedback
just cant teach avoid
Nice guy, but cannot teach. makes his tests WAY too hard. come on man stop trying to fail students
I genuinely don't know why he makes his tests hard, then after says, "I didnt expect to make it that hard" at this point you are trying to fail students. its not hard to put the material you put on the slides onto the test.
glad I don't have to take another class with him. Final was not good at all. he needs to listen to students and actually teach rather than read off slides and go over practice problems we do ourselves. very unorganized.
Fun lab course that teaches you a lot! The negative reviews on here are by freshmen who realized that you actually have to study for college bio; he's an absolute gem of a professor and is the best lecturer in the department. If you think his classes are hard, genetics and cell bio are going to kick your butt. Stop whining about him and work harder
I took Dr. D'Brot for both of my intro to bio classes, and he is so passionate about what he teaches it never failed to make me smile. I took his classes online because of covid, so I don't know what his in-person classes are like but I would take another class with him in a heartbeat. Lots of material you need to study, but very enjoyable.
Possibly the best science professor at SMU or at least at the undergrad level. He wants you to do well and he will go out of his way to do anything to make that happen.
He is a perfect professor with a huge heart who only wants his students to genuinely learn. The course and material are difficult to say the least but he makes it very easy to understand if you just try.
Instead of listening to students as many other students have mentioned, he gets offended. does not matter if cell bio or genetics is harder, depends on teacher. Many students that are actually juniors said same. The same 3 likes that r on every bad review so seems like it is set up tbh. Just listen to every review instead of getting all defensive.
Dr. D'Brot is such an amazing, caring professor. I don't think this class is very hard, just pay attention in lecture and keep up with material. I think a lot of people try to cram for exams, which is difficult to do given the level of detail. That being said his exams are not that hard, if you know the material you'll do well.
What else can I say that others haven't? This guy should decide how biology classes as a whole are structured for the department. He regularly goes past office hours to help students and will try to help you succeed however he can. He literally adopted a child; he's even helping kids who AREN'T his students. Undeniably the best professor at SMU.
Really good prof who cares about you. The tests are doable, just make sure you study the slides. This course isn't a course you can just pull an all-nighter for, you need to to study consistently. Attendance matters, but the classes are a bit boring since its a flipped class. Office hours are useful, use them to your advantage.
LOVED having Dr. D'Brot as a professor for this class. He really enjoys what he teaches and he cares about his students. He does his best to know all of them by name even though he has like 300 of them. Tests are more than fair and he will curve if he thinks he made it too difficult. Absolutely take him if you can.
Dr. D'Brot wants to see his students succeed; it is not his fault that what he is teaching is meant to prepare students for med school. If you take this course, plan out your study sessions and break things into pieces. Make quizlets and buy poster boards. This course was so hard, but if you study consistently and efficiently, you will be alright.
I can't even explain to you the difficultly of this course if you don't plan on attending med school.
Do not be fooled by kindness.
Dr. D'Brot is truly an amazing professor. He clearly loves what he does and is so caring. Go to office hours and get to know him. MAKE THE STUDY SHEETS!!! His exams can be a bit difficult. I admit that I struggled on some but only because I didn't make the study sheets at first.
This class was really fun. The is a lot of content but if you make study sheets you will do fine. Dr. D'Brot is also always available to help during office hours. He is really a great guy and wants you to succeed. Would definitely take a course with him again.
Personally, I didn't have an issue with his teaching or the class. However, when I had to reschedule exams due to family deaths, he was less than understanding. He seems like a cool guy but I would never take him again after what I had to go through.
Dr. D'Brot is one of the best professors I've had at SMU. He is very kind, gives clear expectations for assignments/tests, and is a great lecturer. His class is difficult but absolutely doable if you put the work in and study. I highly recommend attending his office hours; he gives clear explanations and will accommodate you if needed for tests!
I am a freshman who is taking intro bio 2 but I gotta say his whole teaching style is really great. The flipped class is not for everyone but he manages to make even online lectures interesting. The tests are not bad at all if you give yourself time to study. Overall he offers a really fair course load and is a great guy.
Incoming freshmen do not freak out it is really not as hard a class as others make it seem. I didn't take basically any bio in hs and I got an A. D'Brot is a great guy and makes the content really captivating. He really is a fair grader so give yourself time to study for the content heavy tests and you'll have a great experience in the class.
D'Brot is one of the professors that everyone loves. He is fun, nice, and a great professor. His tests aren't super hard, even though he acts as if they are. He cares a lot about his students and tries to relate topics to real world applications. My only complaint about him is that his popularity means that his classes will fill quickly...
A really kind, caring, and engaging professor. His classroom is flipped, so you get twice as much exposure to the material which is very helpful. Be meticulous while studying and you will get a good grade on the tests. He's also readily available during office hours if you have questions and he's always on top of his emails and grading.
When you ask for help he just confuses you more and does not really help. Lack of clear instructions and material, gets extremely offended if you make any suggestion at all. When lecturing makes constant mistakes, provides incorrect info repeatedly. Avoid this professor do not take. Does not help at all.
This was hands-down the absolute worst course I have ever taken, and he was hands-down the rudest, least available, least helpful, and worst profs I have ever had the displeasure of meeting. Do not take any classes with him. Our class averages for exams were all below -40%. Wish I could give a 0.
I do not understand the high ratings at all, something is off about them. I have talked about this guy to everyone i know and we all agree he is a bad professor and person and cannot teach at all. He makes us do all the work then acts offended when we ask him to do his job. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PITIFUL EXCUSE OF A PROFESSOR!!!
This class tanks your GPA. His tests are so hard for absolutely no reason and are just straight-up meant to confuse you. Every time you walk out of that room on test day it's an ego bruise. Listen he's a nice guy, but I never want to step foot in another one of his classes.
This is a flipped class, so the lectures are completed outside of class and in-person class time is spent diagramming various concepts and going over potentially confusing topics. I thoroughly enjoyed taking Dr. D'Brot's class. He was super helpful, and clearly very passionate about biology. I highly recommend taking his class.
Dr. D'Brot is one of the best professors I've had. He truly cares about the success of his students and is always willing to help. If you study the recorded lectures thoroughly, you will do well on the tests. Great class!
D'brot is a great guy. Course was a flipped classroom, we did video lectures for HW & group office hours/review in class. Personally the in class lectures weren't as helpful for me but attendance is mandatory and they are pretty fun, D'brot is super engaging. Textbook not required but he recommends it. Always available outside of class and caring.
Dr. D'Brot is an amazing professor. He truly cares about his students and making sure they do well in his class. There are 4 midterms (lowest is dropped) and a final. Recorded lectures are watched at home, while D'Brot covers questions and harder concepts in class. Lectures are super engaging. I 100% recommend taking him.
His tests are hard but lectures and slides are super helpful, but don't be fooled you have to put in the work
Dr. D'brot is a very nice guy, but he does NOT know how to teach. I have never been more lost and confused in a class. His tests are worded extremely badly, and they are DESIGNED to confuse you. People are barely passing his tests and they make up 80% of the grade. Do yourself and your GPA a favor and take this class somewhere else.
Literally no one take his class if you actually want to learn and pass. His lectures are terrible, jumping around random chapters instead of going in order He babbles on about useless things. Nice guy, but terrible professor . The good reviews are based on his personality and not his teaching skills. His tests are unnecessarily hard and unhelpful.
Absolutely amazing, very open and understanding. Truly wants the best for his students.
Very nice guy, just a difficult class. D'Brot's tests are all multiple choice/drop down/ select all that apply. Don't let that fool you, however; they are not easy. He's difficult to understand a lot of the time and doesn't do the greatest job explaining concepts. He's a super chill professor though and I enjoyed my time in his class.
Dr. D'Brot is an amazing professor. His class is very difficult, but he says that from Day 1, and encourages any non-science majors not to take his class for this reason. Don't be afraid to go to his office hours, as he is more than happy to walk you through the concepts that you don't understand.
Love him as a person, but not professor. His slides are really confusing and he should change to a more linear learning path rather than jumping around. He does a flipped classroom, making you spend more out-of-class hours on bio. You really have to work hard and SELF TEACH. not for the weak.
Dr. D'Brot is an amazing, understanding professor who genuinely cares about his students. His class is challenging because his tests are pretty hard, so you will need to dedicate more time than you may anticipate. Go to his office hours! I wish I had gone more. And don't be afraid to ask any questions, he genuinely wants to help you.
This is by far the WORST professor and course I have ever taken in my life. He doesn't teach AT ALL, doesnt' listen to feedback on what we need and is only kind to those he thinks should be long-term bio majors. He IS NOT "nice" in any way and will not hesitate to fail everyone in his courses.
WORST experience of my life and the guy does NOT know how to teach.Never have I been more lost in a class and he does not care at all if you are, too lazy to help or actually teach. Tests are worded badly, and they are intentionally used to fail you. Only a few barely pass his tests and they make up the bulk of your grade. STAY AWAY.
What a colossal waste of time and money spent. It is true that he does not teach in any way and does not care to try to help us at all. You are on your own without prof guidance and the guy is not of good character. When i asked about help one-on-one he told me to read the book and that I should have already known the answer to the question. Rude.
Pummels students with an incessant barrage of personal opinions in this torturous class, fervently championing only those students he "likes". Dismisses any hint requests for clarification with a sneer, showcasing a glaring aversion to criticism, claims he has to be tougher on us because his colleagues got fired for being too easy.
Sheer incompetence in teaching, a droning on nonsensically completely divorced from any relevance to subject material, a remarkable lack of insight into the subject, and unprofessional and baseless comments about others. Avoid.
Acts like a one-man gatekeeper to pre-med as if he has any right to be that. Does not actually teach, i do not know why any school would pay him for standing there and doing nothing. Horrible attitude and gets sarcastic toward students who don't "get" it right away. Despite his lack of teaching, i did well because I am more knowledgeable than him.
Dude needs to find another job, confusing vids, and hard grading but all at the end of the semester so you can't complain on his evals. There is no structure in lectures and he does not know how to teach, or just doesn't teach, i don't know which is worse but do know this was the worst course I have ever taken and tanked my GPA
This professor is THE best lecturer in the bio department. I took Dr. D'Brot for both intro bio I and II and I loved his teaching style so much that I have taken 3 more of his classes since. He is SO accessible in office hours and he posts last year's exams to help you study. If you listen in class and put in the work, an A is easy. TAKE HIS CLASS!
I dont like posting bad reviews but definitely do not take this class. I took him this semester and it was really weird. He was randomly assigning grades and never gave any feedback. He was ugly to me in an email when I asked some questions so I never did again, and he couldn't bother to prepare a lecture if his life depending on it. Horrible.
love dr. d'brot! he's so nice and funny and his lectures are always engaging and easy to understand. biochemistry lab was made so simple and easy and as long as you participated and did your homework and pre-labs it was fine! he makes an effort to get to know the students too. great attitude always
Initially masquerades as manageable only to devolve into a torturous experience of r ambiguous grading and a deluge of deductions in answers. He is either incapable or unwilling to actually teach the material and you are forced to learn everything on your own. Strongly dissuade anyone from subjecting themselves to this needlessly burdensome ordeal.
Complaints are diappearing becuase he can't take criticism like he can dish it out. Try teaching better for better reviews.
friendly professor but no clear instruction and no matter how much you practice or study, you will not get a good grade, he is also hard to reach when you need him, not a good class and a terrible professor who keeps denying the negative comments rather than learning from them
Stop trying to fail students and listen to us - you need to do a better job teaching, stop being so defensive to criticism and teach rather than read from slides and answer questions. Worst course of my life, teach or find another job.
He's a friendly professor, but he's really messy. He always waits until the last minute for EVERYTHING and never grades on time. Easy to score in class but did not learn anything either.
This professor is a joke. Shows blatant bias in grading. Offers no constructive feedback, dismisses student concerns. Avoid like a sinking ship.
A more incompetent teacher could not exist, has an attitude and is sarcastically mean toward students who don't understand, tells some that they don't belong in college, says his job is grade you on merit even if thats not an A, cannot answer questions and is so disorganized with dumb group activities and exams
A complete disorganized mess of a professor who doesn't teach or doesnt know how to and will ruin your gpa and chances of medical school while professing all the good things he does with his life. He's more self-obsessed than being a decent professor to those of us just starting out.
Incredibly disappointed with this professor. Disorganized and honestly had no idea what he was talking about, not helpful at all when it came to questions and could not answer them due to his cluelessness about the subject.
If you're not in his class right now then run while you still can. He inspires me to do my worst in everything I do. He talks to you like you're less than, a mere student not worth his time, and openly expresses that in class. One time he told us that if he's mean, it is his kid's fault. don't take this class if you don't like getting insulted.
Very unclear grading criteria, unreasonably high expectations for assignments, absolutely boring "discussions" l DO NOT TAKE (he's a bad teacher). I couldn't wait for his class to end.
Disorganized control freak
doesn't know how to teach and somebody needs to tell him that, makes you do things that don't even make since in a weird dominating need to force his ways upon you
Avoid this class if you can. The professor seems disengaged and unable to effectively teach the material. Lectures are confusing, grading is harsh, and he doesn't seem open to helping students one-on-one. Utilize unstuckstudy ai and other study resources to get through this challenging course.
Am a 4.0 student and I have never gotten grades like these even looking it up and you find nothing. its impossible to ace this class and he's not setting you up for anything for good grades at all
Tests are literally ridiculous. Spends class time on tangents. Doesn't provide useful feedback. Unapproachable and dismissive. Avoid this class for your own sanity.
Spends more time talking about his personal life than teaching and should focus on doing his job. We don't care you adopted we care about getting into medical school. Do you job bro
LMFAO do not take this class. I am warning you. If you are reading this, DO NOT take this class. D'brot is not capable of teaching or running a class efficiently. treats our 3 unit class like it is 5 units.
Extremely arrogant. Talks about his opinions and expects everyone to agree. Hard core elitist. Repeatedly told me to "study more" when I asked content questions. Do not take this professor.
lmao at you guys worshiping at his alter for no reason, he is the worst professor on campus. All I can say is spare yourself the confusion from vague lectures that make absolutely no sense and follow no pattern. I would never take this class again, not worth the credit. I studied for 12 hours for each test and got a B. Class ruined my gpa.
Incompetent and unorganized. The class isn't hard, but he's too busy trying to be the "empath professor” to actually teach and our field deserves better representation than this.
The man doesn't teach and your grade will suffer for it. Has no knowledge and can't answer questions about his own material, asked questions he could never answer, and constantly contradicted himself in class where you would get something right but he makes it wrong then lied ab what he said earlier
Such a good teacher provides so many resources to succeed in his class. Definitely need to watch the lectures cause it's a flipped class and they actually impact your grade as well as do the practice problems cause that's kinda what the test is
Seems to fancy himself the king of all determinants of who gets into medical school and who doesn't, intentionally making things WAAAYYY more difficult than need be in order to "WEED THEM OUT" in reference to students he doesn't think belongs. Horrible teacher awful person.
Literally the WORST. Not one thing he talks about is in the exam.
tests r unbelievably harder than most other teachers and if u miss a single lecture good luck bc he doesnt have anything on canvas, too full of himself to teach well
Intentionally makes things harder than they should be to mess up your gpa. He can talk alllll about how great he is as a person in his personal life as he does but its meaningless when he's out to ruin our lives. Was a pre-med until i met him. Don't take if you can help it.
He spends more time boosting his ego than teaching. His constant focus on himself, trying to win approval from students, is awkward and unprofessional. It's hard to respect his lectures when they're so self-serving. His lack of research expertise only makes it worse.
So boring, His class makes me wanna dissect myself and study my own guts!!!
Will not excuse absenses even for sickness, family events, or uncontrollable events.
Doesnt' actually teach but makes you watch videos then doesn't even answer any questions when you have them, makes other students do his job of helping students while he sits back and does nothing.
Doesn't want to do his job of teaching when that's literally all he's hired to do. He's not a researcher yet spends more time talking about everything but teaching and it's at the cost of our grade. Too much personal life discussed too when we're not here for that.
Oh my god, imagine monotone was a person, I can barely listen to a lecture without wanting to become the next thing the lab dissects!!! So bad I never wanna take again
LITERALLY DOES NOT TEACH, he does nothing and then you're expected to teach yourself on crapa$$ materials he "creates" from publisher materials, lazy, more into himself than teaching, can't wait to tell you all about his humanity while ruining your gpa
Awesome teacher!!! Exams cover exactly what he teaches in class, and very clear class structure. If you participate and follow his advice to succeed you're guaranteed an A. Also always available outside of class
D'Brot is the best! he really wants his students to succeed and is alway available during office hours! Test questions are from the homework and are fair!
An amazing professor, and his class is kind of lecture heavy but the passion for what he teaches makes them a lot more interesting. The tests aren't bad at all as long as you put a bit of study time in and don't blow them off. He genuinely cares about the success of his students and wants everyone to get better.
He was such a good professor and was able to explain everything in a way students can relate to. Overall he was so nice and very approachable. 10/10 would take his class again
Dr. Dbrot is truly a good professor, he is very kind and patient towards students. I will say I was not personally a fan of the flipped lectures, as I felt like the actual lecture was kind of a waste of time since attendance was mandatory. This class is HARD and time-consuming. That being said, if I had to pick again, I would pick Dbrot!
Great professor
Worst professor I've ever had. He doesn't spend lecture time teaching so you're forced to waste your time there for no reason.
This guy is no good but has a weirdly allegiance following that is loud and makes you think you should take him and then you find out he doesn't do anything to aid your learning. Eogotistic nightmare.
His form of helping is insulting you and telling you to drop the course. Downright abusive and hateful and seems to hate life and happiness.
Great Professor. Tests are easy. If you watch the lectures, it is very easy to get an A.
He's one of the few professors I felt actually wanted to teach students, rather than being forced to teach on the side. Very helpful in office hours and gives so many resources to prepare for exams, and I learned a lot in class. His jokes are a bit corny, but in like an ironic "dad-hip-millennial-joke" kind of way.
he is a terrible teacher doesn't care about his students
D'Brot is a great guy and this class follows a pretty straightforward formula. Basically you watch recorded lectures before class then in-class time is just people asking questions, super chill. tests are very similar to practice tests and he tells you what concepts you need to know. class is VERY memorization heavy but also very manageable.
I absolutely love D'Brot. He cares so much about his students and this class was easy. He gives you a list of questions that will be on the exam, and he hosts review sessions to go over them. Not the most structured class, but I love him
Bro doesn't teach, just a youtube course
Awesome prof, hard class, but if you like flipped lectures, take it! I loved it and got a great grade after struggling in bio 1.
This is not an easy clas if you want to learn for real cause the guy doesn't teach anything and you have to watch videos for no reason when you could spend that time in class learning and not outside of class as an addition. Hate lazy a teachers like this
Class time is wasted while he goofs off and tries to win some kind of popularity contest among students. Lectures are useless and disorganized. No reason to attend as he gives the test questions out days before so wasteful and disrespectful of our time and money.
This is a 'flipped course'. Essentially you watch a video lecture from years ago and he wastes class time talking about useless things, like how a select all that apply test question 'works'. Also seems to be a dreamcrusher - telling students that they may not be cut out to be health care professionals.
Extremely boring class time becuase he makes you watch videos from COVID era. The most unfunny teacher that assigns bad grades. Worst grader, gives disfavored people a bad grade. If you want a high gpa AVOID this teacher!
Extremely accessible during office hours, his tests are pretty much just copies of the practice exams so as long as you study they're extremely easy. He's an extremely kind man and supported me a lot while I was going through a difficult time in my life. One of my favorite teachers/professors I've ever had
If you've ever wondered what taking a correspondance course from the last century was like, well take this course cause that's what it is! Watch videos from the previous decade! Make sure class time is completely wasted on test taking strategies rather than content! Step right up for $5K you too can get a degree this way!!!
I am outraged to an indescribable extent. You watch videos, that's the course. The guy doesn't bother doing anythign else but talk about himself in class time. NOT WHAT WE PAY FOR
D'Brot is phenomenal! If you work through practice problems and old exams, you will do well. It was always clear what to study and what will be on the exams. He went beyond the call of duty to make himself available to students outside of class - frequent office hours, GroupMe DM, and review sessions. The best academic experience I have ever had!
Doesn't do his job of teaching basic intro level course which anyone could do and instead makes you watch videos he tapped what appear to be during Covid and never updated. Dude should get paid for that.
Entire class is nothing but him rambling.
D'Brot is great professor and his class is structured in a way that tries to help the students: multiple practice exams similar to the exam, recorded lectures so you can rewatch at will, and a GroupMe where's he's always accessible. Study for the 4 exams (+ final) for a few hours and you'll for sure get a A.
his lectures are boring and he is very judgmental. if you ask him a question he doesn't know the answer to he gives a sassy response back and your even more confused than before. not flexible for students' time, especially when outside factors happen that are out of your control.
This class is academic Hunger Games and they're the gamemaster. Everything's rigged, no one survives, and the odds are never in your favor. Grading is a blood sport. Morale is a distant memory. He doesn't even bother playing the role of teh teacher and makes you videos from ten years ago instead. WORTHLESS
This class was literally run by ChatGPT—but God forbid you use a grammar checker. Got flagged for cheating because I used a semicolon. They out here copy-pasting their lectures and calling it teaching. Unreal.
Dudes a burger fr and wrote the book on lazy teaching DO YOUR JOB
You're forced to attend, but it's all nonsense. Exams blindside you because he doesn't prep you for them. Lectures are just talking to a select few students. Completely checked out of his own course. Shocking he's still employed.
I wanted to like him, but the class is a disaster. he doesn't teach anything, just assigns work from the book software. Tests are random, and you're on your own. His desire to be “relatable” and "popular" among kids is just a cover for lack of preparation.
Lectures are word vomit and tests have nothing to do with lectures, other comments disappearing but this man is trifling. Can't bother to actually teach and just stands there asking questions, like dawg do your job
He doesn't teach anything at all and talks in short responses when you ask questions. Laziest teacher I've ever had. Doesn't lecture then is confused why we don't know wh
Great professor! Super engaging, probably the most fun lab I've had (yes, it was a cool lab and not a pain). Enjoyed going to class, got to know him 1:1. He cares about his students and sets up clear grading. The class is a normal difficulty compared to other lab courses.
I think the is lazy and diner know how to teach which will hurt your grade. Not as nice as people think either.
He doesn't teach so much as monologue.
