Great Prof. He knows what he teaches. Very helpful. If you pay attention you will learn. He reviews for the exams. He gives HWs questions that are in the exams. If you care you learn. Its not easy but its not hard. Take him. Take him.

The hardest part about this class is staying awake. The professor may be monotone but it would take a stripper to make SQL interesting. Exams are extremely fair. Assignments are straight from the textbook/notes. And the final project is easy with a good group. All lessons/examples are posted online on his site.

Database is a boring class but that's not the professor's fault. It's not a hard class. His class is all about practice. Don't wait 'till the last minute to install SQL server. Doesn't have office hours, its only by appointment. Project counts almost 50% of the final grade. Select the dedicated students for your group project. 2 exams. Study = A!

Was a good class, one of my favorite so far because you learn a lot. Pretty straightforward class if you follow the requirements and go over the slides. Just open the slides while he goes over them on your desktop it should help you focus on what he's saying.

His lectures are pretty boring. 4-5 HWs (one is extra credit), 2 tests and 1 group project. Not a hard class to pass, just make sure you know SQL rather well, his exams are pretty much nothing but SQL coding.

Probably the most competent database professor at this school for IT. His work is easy if you just read the book, pay attention to the lectures and read the power points. Halfway through the semester I was teaching basic concepts to students taking the same class with other professors because they hadn't learned a thing. Highly recommended!!

Pretty good class, 5 homeworks, 2 exams and 1 group project. It can't get any simpler. He has pretty dry humor, and occasionally he'll make the class laugh. It's not his fault though, it's the subject matter that's pretty boring. Also, STUDY NORMALIZATION, he's BIG on it.

He is very knowledgeable and a very good instructor. Every class is a lecture summarizing the concepts of the class textbook (don't purchase it). His lectures can be very long and personally, it was very hard to stay focused. To ensure you pass the class, you need to review material on your own and look for outside resources. I learned a lot.

Professor Roque is an amazing Professor. I took him for Summer A. It was a lot but he is understanding and he does not make the midterm or final difficult. He gives partial credit on the exams. You will pass his class if you pay attention. He knows what he is talking about and you will learn SQL. There is hw but it is not hard, it helps you.

Knows his stuff and his classes are as dynamic as it gets when the topic is SQL Databases. He also recommends students that do well with places that offer internships, so that's a plus.

The class is not hard to get a C but if you want an A you have to study a lot. DO NOT skip any assignments. Midterm and Final are 80% short response. Make sure you know the syntax and the logic behind it.

He's very monotone but sql itself is kind of boring. He will answer any question you have during or after class, via email (fast reply) or in his office. Honestly, he wants you to know it. Pay close attention to his lectures and ask questions. 4 homework's, midterm and final. You will fail if you don't learn it so don't think you will breeze by.

Professor Roque is really knowledgeable on his subject and will make the class enjoyable by cracking a joke every now and then. All the content you need to know is on the powerpoints that are based of the book, make sure you read them. Guaranteed you are going to end up liking sql if you take it with him. Roque is a great professor and he does a great job at teaching you the material. His class will definitely leave you very comfortable with SQL language and database concepts. Overall one of the best professors I've take at FIU and I'd definitely recommend him for this class.

Learning from Professor Roque is pretty great for IT/Computer Science students as not only does he teach you the content, but knows its applications since he works in the industry. His class is not an easy grade, but it shouldn't be. I walked out of it feeling very comfortable with database systems, the language, and even NoSQL concepts.

Professor Roque is one of the better professors I've had at FIU. He brings levity to a dry subject matter. There's an assigned textbook, but if you download his PowerPoint you really won't need the textbook. There are 4 homework assignments, 1 group project, a midterm and a final. Professor Roque was crystal clear from Day One. Grading consisted of a Midterm, Final, 4 Small Quizzes, and a Team Project. Exams were extremely easy for those who studied. He gave us the concept for the Group Project (Online Bookstore), but we had 100% freedom on implementation. He will ask for your source code. One of FIU's better CS professors.

Assigns a few homeworks which are all very doable with over a week to complete each one. The midterm and final are easy if you prepare for it and actually put in effort for the homeworks. You will be writing SQL code on paper for both exams, so if you don't practice and do the homework you won't pass his exams. Overall learned a lot.

Only complaint (or + for some) is that he doesn't intervene when members of a team are contributing nothing. 2 people on my team received full credit for nothing.

Professor Roque is a hell of a teacher. I'm not much of a SQL person but he made the thoroughly-logical base material interesting and I learned a lot. Quizzes every 2ish weeks, not easy but very doable. 3(?) exams, get to skip the final if your grade is 95+ Very cool guy, knowledgeable and fair. We need more teachers like this at FIU.

My overall opinion on this class (4703) is good. The first part of the class is great because it's mostly practice and running queries. The second part is more boring because there is A LOT of theory and almost not practice. Prof. Roque is a great professor (definitely take his class). I would just like that second part to have more practice.

Took Software Engineering with him online. He was a good professor. His syllabus makes everything clear and as long as you are up to pace with what it says you should get an A in the class.

took CEN4010 online and this professor was awesome. You work in a group and take an agile approach to complete a semester long project. What I appreciated most was that he is very approachable and meets with your group via google hangout every week to see where your group is at and provides good feed back. replies to email quickly.

His chapter lectures and power points are very straight forward; they're necessary to pass the quizzes. He also has extra videos and code snippets to help with the projects. He's always open to questions and grades fairly.

You have quizzes, a midterm, a final and the group project. The quizzes and exams are from the powerpoints and book. The group project is the complicated part. He is flexible and understanding, our group actually swapped technologies 2 weeks in the development, I explained and had good reasons and he accepted them, with nothing more than a warning to catch up. He gives plenty of opportunities to make up for mistakes.

I took this class online. Although you have to complete all your work to get good credit, it was not very difficult. The slides for the class were very helpful and if you pay attention to the class you will learn a lot about agile methodologies.

Professor Roque is professional, and provides a lot of resources and lectures for you to study. The projects are fair, although at the end he does throw the MS docs at you. This was the best online class I have ever taken at FIU (it was even better than my remote classes). We had to create a book store website. If you put in the work you should be fine. You will really learn a lot about web development by doing this project. He has you work on a team of 6 students to build an online book store application. In addition, you also have monthly tests and about 20 lectures total, each being 1-1.5 hours long. You have to follow scrum practices for the project, so you have standups, planning, review, retro, and demo meetings. At the end, the team demos the product to him.

You will gain great experience from working on a group project. You will have to self learn all of the technologies needed to build the project but its worth it, you will learn a lot of useful stuff.

The class material isn't actually directly about working with computers. You learn about Scrum and other agile principles. For the group project, you work with other students to create a Restful API, the specifics of which you have to learn on your own. Fortunately, he is not super picky and basic functionality is enough for a perfect score.

This is one of the best Professors at FIU in Computer Science, excellent class, great lectures, amazing Professor! Tons of content for a short summer class. However, if you want to learn Cloud Computing and Software Engineering this is the right class.

Professor was great all semester, all lectures were pre recorded and organized by modules/chapters. Gave 2 proctored exams (Midterm/Final) of about 12-15 questions asking about SQL and given scripts, 3 projects running queries on a database and weekly quizzes (total 5) that were straight from the lectures. Easy class, almost impossible to fail. Will be confusing at first because you will be introduced to topics you probably have no experience with but you will be fine after 2 weeks. Hes a pretty amazing professor to have. The whole class is one semester long project you do with a team. Even if you have a bad team you can pass this class pretty easily. The midterms and finals are easy. The actual project is really interesting and even if you dont complete it your still gonna pass the class if you do everything else.

This class was a trial run into what working as a SWE would be like. We had 1 big group project that we were able to accomplish however we wanted using any tools and languages. The focus of the class was learning to work using Scrum as a team to solve the problem (the project). Thanks to this class I was able to get an internship, highly recommend!

Chill prof, you will learn a lot because you will have to teach yourself everything. You run into real world problems which is good! The most stressful thing can be organizing your team, but don't stress too much as the prof will grade you based on your work. Biweekly quizzes on topics from modules as well as exams. Main grade is the group project.

Like other reviews mention, this class is essentially just one big group project. The project is easy though because the emphasis of the class is more so on the learning the agile framework SCRUM. Quizzes and test are fairly easy as well. However, despite its ease I learned more in this class than I have in a lot of other classes.

loved this class he was great. You do have one team project and was difficult in the beginning since it covered a lot of new topics for such as rest api, etc but once you study it a bit and get the hang then its a breeze.

Great prof. Semester-long group project to create a program. Feature divided into tasks. Idea is you use scrum within the group across the weeks. A few quizzes. Proctored midterm and final. Material tested is on scrum-related topics learned on the modules. Project is easy too. Work expected every two weeks, consisting of some write up and a demo.
