Mr. Saldivar expects hard work and ,above all, accuracy from students.
This is the worst teacher at GRCC! some how he still has a job?
good guy, extremely easy, goes over a section for 2 days. how could u not get A?

First time in my life I understood algebra-went on&got an A in stats-good prep!
I am an ed student, Salvidar violates every ed theory I have learned
Wants accuracy from students but isn't very accurate himself
I ask him to show steps and he would not do it.Not enough examples.
The first time I ever understood math was with Mr. Saldivar. Excellant teacher!

He is not a good teacher for this class. He was never prepared. He sucked
No partial credit makes for a difficult class. Sometimes unclear.

Hard to understand his accent, but a good teacher

Worst teacher ever. Not, prepared, no partial credit. First time i ever failed
He is the worst math instructor. Don't take his class.
He's pretty good in lower math but DO NOT take him for upper math
He is so nice and cares, and if you study with a buddy you will do awesome!!
Very difficult...a bad explainer ...study rev. sheets..they just like the tests
Review sheets are just like tests. Fairly easy

i thought he was hilarious, is it skipped or skept review sheet = test
I had a 3.8 in MA 104 but in his class I got my first D ever. Very bad explainer
Best instructor I have ever had! Preparing well pays off in this class!!
Good teacher. He encourages you to ask questions. Come to class and do the work, you should do well. His review sheets before tests help a lot. Overall,he is a pretty good prof.

I had in A in math last semester in 107 and I had to drop my class this semester. He is the worst teacher ever. He does not teach in a way students can understand
a really nice man, a truly horrible teacher. His class is geared towards people who have had a similiar class prior to his. Not for slow students! I had to drop because I was failing.
Great teacher - I am a history major for a reason, but Professor Saldivar made math easy for me to understand!
Mr. Saldivar is an exceptionally good teacher. He is very thorough and well organized. He went out of his way to help. He understands the topic well and it shows in his lectures. Unfortunately, Mr. Saldivar is very underrated on this site. That is invalid

He's may be a descent algebra instructor. but is horrible at calculus. It seems like he just doesnt know where to start. A suggestion might be the text. But, what do I know.
I don't care about anything else, but this teacher does not give any partial credits. NO PARTIAL CREDITS in math!! that means if you make a algebra mistake in calculus, you get no point.
Enjoyed the class very much. Mr Saldivar is very clear on what he expects and though he goes into too much detail sometimes on certain topics you'll walk out of class well prepared for the next step. Tests mirror review sheet exactly.
I taught myself this class because I didn't understand the way this man taught. I was surrounded by students who couldn't understand how I was getting A's on everything.
He is very clear in his teaching and knows what he's talking about. Tests are easy if you do your reviews, they are exactly like the test. If you don't have a firm grasp of elementary algebra it could be hard though.
I have never felt like such an idiot. This was the hardest class Ive had at CC. He didnt make any sense and was not helpful at all. I studied very hard, but half the things on the tests he didnt even mention.
This is a difficult class, but Mr. Saldivar was fair and helpful. The tests are very similar to the review.
I will give him that his reveiws are like his tests..BUT.. Unless you have extra time to go to the Math Lab or are very good at Algebra dont take his class. A very nice man who is very good about test make ups.
I like Saldivar. He's funny. His class is fairly easy.
Best instructor I have ever had. I was awful at math until Mr. Saldivar. Now math makes sence and I totally understand the concepts! Thanks Mr. Saldivar!
Mr. Saldivar is the best professor I have ever had. I was in his classes 3 semesters in a row, I liked his teaching that much. Test reviews are awesome, he's very good about keeping office hours and making himself available. Good sense of humor.
I liked his class alot and learned alot in there. His tests were just like his review he told what was on it. Besides no partial credit on tests he is a great teacher
I failed this class with another teacher that never made sense. I took his class and received an A. He is a really great teacher!
horrid teacher, half the class dropped. he goes off on thing you dont need to learn then expects you to know stuff on the test he didn't teach at ALL.
He always was availabe for Q's and made it easy to understand. Tests were a breeze since the reviews covered EVERYTHING.
You can not understand him he writes everything he says down. Dont ask questions because he will just repeat what he said.
I took MA 107 and MA 110 and passed with A's. He is a nice guy and tries, but his teaching method is unclear. He is bringing the horror that was math class in high school back to me. I really wouldn't recommend him unless you are sure you'll pass w/o much guidance from him in class.
cannot understand his teaching methods. Does not explain himself well. Nice guy, you can tell he tries, but most of the time you will not understand anything he says.
I learned so much from him than from Mr. Worthington. I am acutually getting a good grade with his class!!!!!
He is a good teacher in my opinion but warning- The is VERY little or no partial credit. I understand why but it sucks.I have taken him twice(once due to my own faliure,i was a freshman!)and i would take him again if i loved math that much.
He is a little hard to understand at times b/c of his accent, but it doesn't make the class hard. He goes through every problem imaginable to make sure the students understand the stuff. He is a very good teacher and i highly recommend him.
Wonderful teacher!!!!! I had to work hard but in the end it was well worth it. Try to have the class do a study group in the math lab. Always very helpful.
I don't think he's a sucky teacher. He is quite humorous and entertaining though.
Good Prof. He's very indepth with his examples during class. Take good notes and be sure you know what's going on.
he's not the nicest guy, but he is willing to help you if you can ever find him in his office. his lectures are terrible and he never comes to class prepared. messes up on problems daily.
he is great. he has a great sense of humor and loves to help. I hate math, but he actually was not thaqt bad, he is a great teacher
He becomes frustrated when there's students who act like they're in high school. He acts like this towards the entire class, even if some are truly trying. Maybe a night class with adults or a higher level class where he doesn't have to deal with as many rude students. You can't rely on him for help
A hard class, and there is no partial credit. The good thing is that most of the subject matter is thououghly explained. Dedicated and willing to help anyone who asks. Another plus is that he's leanient on letting you put formulas and info in your calculator memory. Good sense of humor too.
Worst teacher ever. He jumps around on different tangents which makes it very confusing. No partial credit means even if you know the material you will get the problem wrong if you accidentally put a + instead of a - . Won't allow for these mistakes but consistently makes mistakes in teaching.avoid.
really good teacher. i failed a test and still aced the final and got an a in the class. no partial credit but thats not a big deal because he gives you extra credit on the test. really easy class.
Borring, dull, straightforward, bad jokes. You learn on your own. He expects alot.
I recently graduated from GVSU and must say that he was the best math instructor I ever had. You have to be either lazy or a moron to not do well. His study guides tell you EXACTLY what will be on the test/exam. He only changes the numbers. You whiners may as well quit wasting your time and drop out of college because it only gets harder.
He is not that good at explaining. Plus if you fail 2 of the Tests there is no way you can get a good grade. He really makes you have a low GPA
This teacher has a cool style in teaching. Its different from any other class.
He's a nice guy, but is pretty tough. No partial credit...
his notes jump around so much.
hard to understand
this guy is horrible. he doesn't even look at the question before he marks it wrong. in the end, i had well over 150 points of just extra credit and my grade was only a B. more than 75% of ALL of his students dropped and the ones that didn't regretted it. DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!
Not a good teacher at all! He will ignore you if you ask for help in and outside of class and doesn't explain the problems very well. Zero partial credit and half the times he doesn't even know if his own problems are correct in the text book he wrote! If you want to pass math, dont take him.
TERRIBLE HIGH LEVEL MATH INSTRUCTOR. He may be good at teaching college algebra because I could teach it after drinking a bottle of vodka and having a closed head injury. NO PARTIAL CREDIT?Anyone who has taken higher math classes like Calc3 knows that one problem can take up to 30 minutes to solve and the chances you miss a small detail are grea
It is very wrong to rate a professor bad because he han an ascent, he was an excellent teacher, i had a solid A in his class, you take his class you will be fine in areas you will join. real teacher who prepares students for difficult tusks a head. i reccomend a true hardworking student to take this class... got lower grades in 107,but A in 131
tough and hard to understand
he is hard to understand. smart guy but not a teacher.
Very smart but without that attitude, helpful to anyone, excellent professor.
He didn't explain math very well. When I asked for help, he helped for a couple questions and then just told me to go to the tutoring lab. Thats not very helpful. I didn't like his class at all.
Mr. Saldivar is an outstanding instructor. unlike many teachers he does not act annoyed when you ask questions. He encourages reasoning and intellectual arguement in class. If you want an easy A steer clear of the class altogether If you want to learn about mathematics and develop as a student and a thinker he will be a perfect fit!
Horrible! He seemed alright at first. I took this class in high school, and its a good thing I did, because he doesn't explain anything. He tries to be funny, but the only funny thing is weird quirks and accent. He is proud of his costco outfit that he wears everyday. He spends time teaching how to ask a questions, but doesn't know how to answer.
NOT GOOD @ ALL!!! I had to retake the class not b/c of a bad grade but b/c he didn't teach it... He doesn't know how to teach and doesn't take time for the student.
What does a professor's clothing have to do with his teaching? If a teacher cares to teach his students "life lessons," he obviously "takes time for the student." How can one condemn another person's English when their English contains mistakes? Also of all of my teachers, this one is the best question answerer.
Honestly, I thought he was a great teacher. I hadn't taken a math class in over 5 years and am a little older than some students and I ended the class with a solid A. You do have to study, but you should study with any class. I liked the fact that he informed us of exactly what would be on each quiz and test. Lots of homework..
Really good teacher. He really loves his math and is very helpful.
Awful. VERY hard to understand, and nearly ALWAYS explains things in the hardest, most incomprehensible way possible. Avoid.
TERRIBLE for Calculus!!!! 50% dropped the class. He's extremely intelligent, but cannot reach most mortals. Gives very little partial credit.
let's see, this is my second time in calc so i thought it'd be a breeze...not so fast! it just seems the way he teaches nothing sticks, he teaches completely different items then are supposed to be taught. but, if you really wanna learn how to think, take him. just prepare to do all your work on your own without help...very challenging if youre up
he belongs teaching or speaking at harvard. you better be a math wiz to take him!he is so far above all of us but yet he is sweet and dosent really realize how far above us all he really is!if you struggle with math dont walk run away gifted students only
Mr. Saldivar was not very helpful. The class consisted of him writing examples from the book on the whiteboard. I had done well in AP calc 1 but had to drop his class because me and the majority of the class were failing. If you can teach yourself, then you will do fine. Otherwise dont take him.
i had mr. saldivar in 2000...he was amazing! very helpful and very nice.
This man is brilliant. Calc 2 is an extremely hard class, a weeder class, and if you are going to learn the material you need a professor who can tackle the monster with you. Saldivar is very clear, takes ample time to answer questions, and gives tons of extra credit. Little partial credit but hey, you either know the stuff or you don't. Take him!!
he skips around alot and doesn't go over Home work after the first few weeks of school
He may say one thing at one point how he wants things, like how to turn in your homework is a perfect example, and if u ask him another day he says other things. he need to be more sure and CLEAR before he starts any semester.
TERRIBLE!!! cant understand, does not explain ANYTHING!! he put problems up on the board, that no one understood, and that was that. He never went over answeres, he never even talked about the answers he just moved on!
Lectures are dry and unhelpful to students who are struggling. I strongly suggest to students who are struggling; go to the math labs offered (by GRCC)for assistance. Takes away points for lack of logic in shown work, grades all work assigned: homework, projects, corrected tests/quizzes and notes in a final portfolio.
Extremly hard, tests are hard. If you don't have a strong bckground in math do not take him... he is very smart but does not bring his notes down to students level to make it more understandable. Doesn't let you know what your grade is overall until everyting is handed in. If you are doing poor on tests, expect your grade to be bad.
Good teacher overall, rarely gives partial credit for test problems. However he really teaches the underlying concepts not just how do get the work done. Great if you need strong math foundations. I would take him again. He is also kind of funny, tells bad jokes, uses barnacle as a curse.
Showed good understanding of what he was teaching. Tests are easy. You get graded for logic mostly instead of right answer. Gives partial credit. Though I am very good at math, so I don't know what to say for struggling students. I would say, he is kind of hard to understand at times.
Very difficult however, you learn the material given or sink. He looks for logic behind your work and not just correct answers. He puts too much into the logic behind your answer, but it forces you to know the material inside and out. WWAAYY too much emphasis on defenitions nobody can help with (tutors)!!!! Tutors tell you "You're on your own!"
He is ok. Likes to explain things too in depth, to the point were everybody stops paying attention. Tangents can last for half of the class. He is a little funny. He rides a motercycle, is mostly blind, and doesn't like partial credit."Do you know what I am saying?" I wouldn't take him again. Also: He has a bottomless collection of swetter vests
Great teacher, he doesn't teach above you and will stick with your question until you understand it. Prepares you thoroughly for tests and quizzes.
I didn't like him as a professor. He started off o, but when concepts became more difficult it seemed as though I was just going to class to hear him talk, and I would need somebody else to actually teach me calculus. I would definitely not take him again.
Worst teacher I've ever had. I have always been pretty good at math and have never failed a class in my life until I had class with Saldivar. His expectations are ridiculous and his tests are rarely the same as what he suggests you study. He didn't have office hours and wasn't available for help outside of class. Do not take class with him trust me
The way he grades the tests is ridiculous. I have a D in that class and with any other professor I would have a B. Even if do 90% of the problem but mess up a decimal point in the answer he'll give you 0 points. Highly UNrecommended
the worst teacher ive ever had in my life. i ended high school in ap calculous and have always been very gifted. Mr. Salvidor would give me zero's on all my tests when i would have the right answer just because i solved it in a more efficient manner. DO NOT TAKE
He is a strong teacher. Very tough class, takes work. I do not do very much homework until about a week prior to tests. Still do well, probably do to my nature. Many drop but still attend. It's a mountain to climb, good luck.
Do not take this teacher. Worst Math teacher I have every had.
Very good professor. Anyone who gives him a very poor rating is just not doing the work. I put on average 4-8 hrs a week into homework which i do in the math lab. most of the problems on his tests are taken directly from the assigned homework so if u do it some problems should look familiar. b advised though, there is NO PARTIAL CREDIT on tests!
You basically had to teach yourself. Not very good at explaining things.
If you're looking to just get some math credits, do not take Prof. Saldivar. He will prepare you for later math courses, but HE IS DIFFICULT. It is easy to do well on tests, but easier to fail. I'm putting in close to 30 hours a week between studying and the class. He is pretty helpful and has a somewhat interesting lecture.
Decent Prof. I had him for calc2 and calc3 so by calc3 he knew me quite well. After the first test when half of the class drops, his classes become much more entertaining. Just be sure to do ALL of his test review problems since he literally just copies the test review problems on the test---they are usually exactly the same.
Worst professor. Impossible to follow him during lecture, does not explain a thing. He does not post grades on blackboard.. Belittles and makes you feel stupid when you ask for clarification. His tests rarely line up with the study guides (If he even gives you). Within the first month, half the class dropped. Stay away.
Saldivar is great if you want to learn (if you are going into sciences or mathematics, he is a must have.) He will challenge you to challenge yourself. Be prepared for tons of homework, and come to class with questions: don't be afraid to ask stupid questions. Saldivar taught me that attention to detail and hard work brings you great places.
If you 100% know what you are doing already and completely understand everything that he teaches you, you can manage a B in his class. He picks out the hardest type of problem from each section and grades it without giving any partial credit for even tiny errors, but will take away partial credit from correct answers that were not set up correctly.
The only thing i would have to complain about is his grading. He doesn't give partial credit which is a big bummer since it is Math and three are a lot of mistakes that can be made. Other than that he is alright. He gives funny analogies and his pace on teaching is pretty fast. So be a quick learner and pay attention. Don't miss class!
Mr. Saldivar is a good teacher, yes he is hard, but that is what good teachers do: challenge and push their students to do better. He does not give partial credit on tests; math is a very specific subject, and he tests to see if you really understand what you are doing. If you do your homework and study for tests, you will do fine.
Okay, this guy is hilarious at times, I'll give him that. When it comes to clearly explaining and teaching the topic, however, it was really hard to follow. Granted, I'm terrible at math to begin with, but not having a phenomenal professor really didn't help at all. He's not THAT terrible, just not the best ever.
If you do the damn review problems and the homework he gives you, you should be able to do decently. His grading is bad though. I had to learn the chain rule and exponential rule and how to prove limits because the way he explained it was confusing - he gave us the formal definition and expected us to understand it perfectly after we read it.
Worlds hardest class. You won't pass it no matter what if you don't do the homework or study.
Math is difficult and the classes that he teaches are difficult. I've never been good at math but I've learned more in his class than anywhere. He has a specific style but is more than willing the help students who want to learn. DO THE HOMEWORK!!! (I didn't pass btw but that was because I missed 2 lectures)
He was not helpful and did not explain things well. He had one method of teaching that did not work. He also was not personable at all. Do not take his class, it is not worth the hassle. He is the worst instructor I have ever had!
Hard, he makes you work for it. But more then wiling to help you as much as you need. Explains things well.
Impossible grader. There's no leniency whatsoever. Be prepared to triple check your work otherwise you're going to get everything wrong. Speaks in analogies that make no sense instead of actually explaining the problem.
ATTEND CLASS! dont miss lectures, its hard to catch up. GO TO MATH LAB! they make it more clearer and easier to understand the materials. NO PARTIAL CREDIT ON TESTS! he wants you to be "CONSISTENT", you'll hear him say that millions of times. During lectures he'll call on you to answer problems so be ready!
I hated this class.
Calc 2. No partial credit on tests. Put in around 20 plus hours a week for this class and homework. ONLY TAKE IF YOU ARE A STRONG MATH STUDENT. You better have good Calc 1 skills before coming into this class. Toughest class I've taken yet, but it weeds kids out that aren't fit for higher level thinking. Be ready to work. At least 50% of kids drop
he explains things terribly, He can barley see what he is doing so he stands in the way of the problem and also skips steps. He assume you are doing really well after one explanation then doesn't continue to remind you and just throws on other stuff. he never post to blackboard so you are completely blind of your grade. I hate this teacher.
I could hardly understand him with his accent and soft voice. He doesn't seem prepared to teach and messes up a lot. There is homework every night and a quiz every week. the one good thing though is that you have a chance at extra credit on every quiz and test.
He is a fun teacher that does a fair job of explaining questions that people have. If you are doing bad at first don't worry there is a lot of opportunity for extra credit at the end. Homework is optional and is not graded. He rarely gives partial credit for problems so make sure to recheck your work. He was a lot of fun and I would recommend him.
Mr. Saldivar was by far one of the GREATEST professors I have ever had. I struggle with math, so I was very afraid to take this class b/c of what other people said about him. DON'T BELIEVE IT. Hes a GREAT professor. Homework is optional, never graded. DO IT! Practice makes perfect and really helps for quizzes and test! LOVED HOW HELPFUL HE WAS!
If you learn by examples, this class is a breeze. The amount of extra credit available is INSANE, and the tests are extremely predictable. Do all the homework, ask questions, and memorize how to do problems on the quiz and tests should be a piece of cake. Plus he gives you hints on all the tests that basically give you the answer.
Do a lot of hw just for practice (most important for derivative unit) but most the test material comes from quizes and notes. He helps on quizes and tests if you come up and ask to check final your final answer. Learn how to not makes mistakes. He's awesome but be ready to work hard you can get an A for sure, also make the math lab your new home.

You have to know a fair amount of calculus 1 before taking this class, but if you're struggling Professor Saldivar is more than happy to help you. On tests, he marks down lots of points for small things, but you can make up for it with the amount of extra credit he gives you. Everything on the tests is on the quizzes so make sure to study those.
Im terrible at math and was terrified to take a math class. But, he is wonderful! Makes you work for your grade, but hes so eager to help you. Tests are basically the quizzes (youll have one every week) but EXC is built in and there are many opportunities to earn it. Study quizzes and do the homework, and ask questions! He loves answering them.
Not too many tests but lots of quizzes. He is very sweet and always open to answering questions. He's always available during his office times and will willingly help you out whenever you may be struggling. Highly recommend this professor for math!
Solid teacher, Mr. Saldivar is the man. Easy to pass as well.
Saldivar is a good professor, but definitely makes you work for your grade. This class was 5 credits and I was constantly studying and working on the assigned (but not graded) homework. The gradebook is comprised of mostly tests, with two small, easy projects scattered in. I went to each lecture and he covers so much and has a quiz every lecture.
calc 2. I see many like him but I had a horrible experience. He grades extremely harshly for an already hard class, and he explained things poorly. He also didn't allow graphing calculators and made us do everything by hand, so a lot of long tediuous work unrelated the material, then you lose big points even if you learn what youre supposed to
Great guy and definitely a mathematician to say the least. Grades extremely harshly and although you may fully understand the concept, due to the fact that you cannot use a graphing calculator and he makes the tests challenging, you may still not do well if you were not solid in all of your previous math courses. Do the hw every night to succeed!
This professor is an extremely tough grader. Although you do the homework it does not correlate to the test because the questions are too hard to do on the test because you are not allowed to use a scientific calculator. So although you may study and do the homework it does not help when taking test and quizs.
Professor Saldivar is a good person, but a horrible professor for average students. He skipped the review chapter (fine). He also skipped the second chapter so we "know Calc is a hard class". He jumped straight into derivatives without any explanation of a tangent line. No calculators were allowed. We were quizzed every single day. Don't take him.
This professor is great at calc II, but he isn't the best at teaching. You get quizzes every other day, and the tests are just like the lectures. Study the lectures like you're going to be tested on it (they are). Also, no partial credit at all on test or quizzes. He has "projects" that you can just look up on YouTube and copy the whole thing.
Like many others have said, Prof. Saldivar is a tough grader. He does give partial credit on tests, however it is minimal. There is quite a bit of homework but if you do it all you will likely do fine in the class. Prof. Saldivar seems to care about his students and is clearly passionate about the subject.
Grades were based on test and quizzes. Test and quizzes are based off of the lecture (mostly doing examples) and HW; there would be hints to the answer too. There are extra credit in tests and quizzes which is probably the reason why I got an A in the class. He is a funny and nice teacher too, but I get nervous when I come to class.
I loved having professor Saldivar for precalc and calc,is method worked for me and I enjoyed the class. Explains everything, loves the subject, good at not making people feel stupid for questions. Very nice honestly, wish I could have had him for calc2.
I had a really great time in his class, but you have to work for it. The class is very hard and you are only graded based on quizzes and the final exam. Since my class was online everything was open note, no time limit. Very fun and his lectures were helpful. While is teaching style works for me might not be the best for everyone.
The class itself is very hard and there were quizzes every week, but if you study hard, ask questions, and do the homework you will be fine. I will say, more than half the class dropped by the end of the semester. But if you hold on and stick through it you will find that his personality will truly come out and he cares heavily about your grade.
