The homework on Webassign can be annoying if you have never done webassign before. He goes slow and explains things clearly. It feels like the class could move a bit faster sometimes, but if you need to go slow to get things then this class would be just fine. He brought his dog Pepe to class once, which was super fun!
He is very extra. Even when the entire class agrees on answer he'll spend 5 more minutes solving the problem. There are weekly quizzes but they are never difficult. He loves giving very long webassigns as homework and allows you to do test correction for points back. To be honest my favorite part about his class is his dog Pepe.
Easiest math class I have ever taken.
Professor Alex is the best math professor I have ever had. He is easy!! He allows test correction for 1/2 credit. He explains everything in detail. There is a 1 question quiz almost every Friday but I've made a 100 on every one. Do the web assign!!! Just attend and you'll pass. Lastly I see him with his dogs on campus all the time!!!
Alejandro is literally my favorite. He is so funny. His class is so easy I have a 100 average right now. He gives you practice tests before every exam (3) and then he sends you how he worked them out. The tests are exactly like the practice tests just different numbers. Super easy definitely take him.
Professor Sarria is one of the better professors. He cares about you learning math and goes at a reasonable pace. He will often bring his dogs to class and you can always see him around campus, downtown Dahlonega, or in Starbucks! He allows test corrections and holds review sessions the night before the test. He doesn't grade HW which is a pain
Great guy, will bring pets to class. Teaches a little slow and sometimes will spend whole class on just a few problems which can have its drawbacks. Reviews for test will make sure you study and know the material but tests are relatively simple for the most part. Take notes and participate in class, do webassign and you'll make an A.
One of the best teachers I've had at UNG. Mr. Sarria explains things clearly and doesn't rush through the material, which a lot of teachers tend to do. He does plenty of examples, holds review sessions, and gives extra credit in the form of bonus questions and test corrections. I also loved his dog Pepe!
I LOVE ALI! My friend and I had the same course with him and we both adore him! He explains things well, you won't have a hard time at all. Do the webassign. He gives extra credit and test corrections opportunities. There is a quiz every friday and about 3 tests. He gives test reviews and review sessions. Also, I love his dogs Pepe&Maxi.
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE HIM!! He is so great! Do your WebAssign and pay close attention to the practice problems he gives you before the test. They are exactly like the exams. He lets you do test corrections after each exam and gives you points on exams for participating in class. Look forward to his cute dogs! He loves bringing those to class and candy.
You may be thinking He sounds good but I dont want a class at 5:30pm. Let me stop you there. If you struggle at all with math, take him at any cost. Alejandro is knowledgeable, easy, funny, & always available to help. He has tons of ExtraCredit/Bonus, test corrections, & group quizzes. First teacher to ever make me look forward to math class.
Alejandro is the best math teacher I have ever had. I am AWFUL at math and he made it easy to understand. He only takes attendance at first, so if you're good at algebra it is usually safe to skip. He has quizzes occasionally but gives a TON of extra credit. He also brings his dogs at some point in the semester. I love Alejandro!
Has an interesting way of teaching the class, however, if you pay attention in class and do your homework the concepts are easy to understand. Easy one question quizzes almost every Friday, and graded worksheets every couple of day.
Easy teacher will let you do test corrections and there is a easy bonus on each test. Class is mostly him doing examples. If have an 95 or higher can exempt the final.
Do the test reviews and worksheets and you will do fine in the tests. The online homework is graded heavily so do that too. With 95% before the final you can skip it. He lets you do test corrections, which is amazing! I did all of them and managed to skip the final. He brought his dogs to class once and it was the best ever!
Do the homework! It is a pretty big section of the grade. And study the Test reviews! If you 100% know the test reviews the test should be easy. And he also allows test corrections. As long as you study study study the reviews for the test you'll have nothing to worry about in this class.
He's a fantastic professor who really cares about his students' success. He goes over concepts in great detail (though he expects you to remember your algebra because he skips steps). Don't feel scared to ask for clarification. And go to the SI sessions!
The only reason Prof Sarria has a high rating is bc these ppl didn't take him for 2040, brief calc with him is the hardest class I've ever taken. Even tutors say he makes it too hard. He does not explain anything, he just expects you to know what to do- the only good thing about this class is the test corrections. Don't take for brief calc!!!!!!
The worksheets helped understand the material and the test reviews were helpful. The online homework took a while to do but it wasn't hard. I could have done better in the class but was to lazy and missed one of the test corrections. I am just glad I didn't have to take the real Calculus class!
This class is one you have to really work for. He allows you to exempt if you have a 95 and allows test corrections. The tests were hard and there was a lot of homework. Go to office hours. It is so much material to teach that it feels like there is never enough time to actually learn what is going on in class.
Had him for proofs, an upper level math class. I didn't learn much because the tests were take-home. He is a fantastic professor who is a little strict, but cares about his students. Also if you like latin men it might be hard to concentrate because he's very attractive.
He will do example problems, don't ask questions cause he won't answer them He will just look at you His test are 6-8 questions (not multiple choice) and he confuses himself when teaching. I took him because his reviews were good but hes changed since the good reviewsHe won't help you during office hours I only got a cause my bf helped
If you have very little patience then do not take this class. All he does in class is do problems over and over and if you ask questions he gets annoyed and says that you should already know how to do it. Also he calls people out in class so if you do take him make sure that you at least act like you are doing something.
He lets you do test corrections which has really helped. He also assigns take home worksheets and the homework is online. During class he does lots of examples which is what works best for me. He posts test reviews with solutions before each test so all you have to do is study the review. The tests are very similar to the problems in the reviews.
Do the test reviews and you will pass. He also gives you solutions to the reviews so you can check your work. Then he allows test corrections for a third of lost points. The online homework takes a while to do but it always covers what was done in class or he will postpone it. He tries to engage the class too which is nice.
He is very spacey during class and hard to understand. He moves really fast and if you ask to go back he gets aggravated and expects you to know it. His tests suck. If you do take him though, do the web assigns and worksheets & youll pass. Would not take again. EVER.
The class feels like a review of algebra from HS. I like that Prof. Sarria works out lots of examples in class in detail and doesnt rush like many other teachers. The tests are very similar to the test reviews he gives. Do the homework and worksheets they're a good chunk of the grade. He's really helpful during office hours too and even by email.
Super smart and funny. Pay attention in class and do the homework and test reviews and you'll pass. If you expect someone who will just give you answers and not make you think then skip him. There is a silly bonus question on every test and he allows you to do test corrections for 1/3 of credit, which is amazing! Highly recommend!
The class is fast so pay attention. He explains concepts clearly and the homework cover what was done in class. Will postpone assignments if time is needed and gives take-home test corrections for one third of score lost. There's three tests based on the test reviews and he gives detailed solutions for the reviews. So study them. Highly recommend.
Sarria isn't a horrible professor. He can, at times, be incredibly frustrating, but it does not affect my grade. I'm not the smartest at math, but I'm doing well. I find that the math tutors are very useful (I'm tutored every Tuesday). His examples are repetitive but helpful. Lots of homework, do it. Option for test corrections.
He's one of those professors who sees that it's a minute until class is over and will say "time for one more question". He will make you late. Regularly makes fun of students for getting wrong answers and for asking questions. He will move due dates without any regard to the class just based on his idea of where you are. Do not take him if you can
Love Aleandro! He lets you correct your tests for a third of credit. Tests are similar to the reviews and there is a easy bonus at the end. The tests are not multiple choice though. The office hours really helped too. The homework is long but he will postpone it if time is needed to cover the material. Same with the worksheets. Highly recommend!
Fair guy. Flexible with due dates and lets you fix your test mistakes. Tests are free response so make sure to show your work or you will lose points. Overall a good prof.
Just one word! Test corrections! Lets you do them for a fraction of credit lost. Mr. Sarria gives lots of examples and really helps you during office hours. I prefer multiple choice tests but did I say test corrections! Recommend!
The homework are long and you can't miss any cause there's no make up. The tests are similar to the reviews and homework and you are allowed to fix mistakes on tests. Overall a good class but you have to work for it.
One of the best profs at explaining difficult material. The topics were taught in a way that made sense and built on one another. Dr. Alejandro lets you correct your tests and gives test reviews before each test with detailed solutions. He made the class fun and would love to take another class with him.
Don't listen to the negative reviews, those people probably expected to be spoonfed. He does many examples in class, so no problem is unseen. Tests are very similar to the reviews, so DO THEM! He's personable and unintentionally funny. WebAssign and worksheets for every section, they make sure you learn the material. GO TO CLASS & TAKE NOTES. Pups.
I got out with a B but I lived in tutoring. If you are a steps oriented person when learning math he is not for you. The homework was very time consuming. He does give practice problems for tests and they are helpful. Overall he is not a great teacher and is not very helpful but if you are good at Math or are willing to go to tutoring its possible.
Lets you do test corrections and assings plenty of homework between the online hw and worksheets, but everything you need to know is covered in detail in class. He does lots of examples in class and doesnt skip steps, which is very useful. He sometimes moves fast but will go over things again if you ask. And go to office hours!
I learned most of this material in high school, so that helped, but I'm afraid that if I were to really need a solid explanation in this class it would not be able to be given. Basically, the explanation is straight from the book. But other than that, he was very nice and understanding. Tests were online and had multiple tries on questions.
Probably one of the best math professors I've ever had. I love the way he teaches. He just works out examples that progressively get harder which is really the best way to learn math from my experience. If you're good at math, the class will be an easy A. He is also willing to help you outside of class if you ask for it.
Had a great grade all semester and then my grade dropped 2 letters bc of the PROCTORED final. If you study hard and stay on top of the homework you will be fine but expect a difficult cumulative final.
Professor Sarria was amazing. He goes over the material clearly with many examples. There is homework every week due Sunday and a discussion post ever 2 weeks due Thursday. Pay attention in class and youll be fine.
I took Sarria for Algebra as a first-half session and I really enjoyed it. He is a very good teacher and goes over many example problems, which helps a lot. He doesn't assign much homework. I had one homework a week and only 3 tests including the final, which is cumulative. Overall, he is a really funny guy who cares about his students.
He's an alright teacher. He has a slight accent which can be difficult to understand but you should be fine. Can be a bit judgmental. He knows his stuff and is willing to help you.
I had Mr. Sarria for a half session college algebra and highly recommend him. You have to earn your grade but he prepares you. The tests are on material that has been covered well and He allows test corrections, drops a quiz and gives extra credit for homework. His very detailed during lectures and let's you try problems on your own.
Dr. Sarria is definitely the funniest professor I've had in college so far. He's a great lecturer, and his class could be really entertaining at times. He posts a review with solutions before every test, so just go through every question and you should be good. (15 weekly quizzes (open note and drops the lowest 2), 3 tests, 15 hw, and a final).
Explains concepts thoroughly, and the lectures and homework are more difficult than the tests. Each week, he gives a quiz over a concept in class. He posts test reviews and solutions before each test, and takes a class period to review for the test. He's also funny when giving lectures, so it makes the math less boring.
Brief Calculus isn't the easiest to understand for Business majors, but Sarria does a good job explaining it. He is really a typical math professor, but is one of the better ones I have experienced. There are test corrections available, and he is willing to explain things in class. The homework is rough but doable.
He is an ok teacher. He just pulls up problems on the projector and solves them on the whiteboard. Be prepared to do hundreds of problems by the end of the semester. Do not take his hour fifteen classes, you will be bored. He does problems on the board for the whole time.
Instructor Alejandro explains things clearly and goes over why things work the way they do which makes the material easier to understand. I also like that he works out lots of examples on the board. The test and homework are usually like the board problems but easier. Beware of Pop quizzes...
It may just be this class, but I found college algebra to be somewhat difficult. The 1.5 hour classes feel really long, and can be boring. He just stands up in the front and works out problems the whole class. I felt very confused after class and he overcomplicates some things. There is a homework assignment due each week, but they are beneficial.
Pretty standard class format three tests, weekly quizzes and a final and online homework. Test corrections are allowed and he allows you to retake the homework the last week and drops a quiz grade. he works out tons of examples on the board which really helps and then gives students time to do the same and ask questions.
His class was one of the hardest classes I have ever taken, he does not explain anything all he does is go over practice problems the entire semester. He makes things very hard to understand and when a student asks a question he barely responds and says. "You should know this, it's common sense." Even though it is definitely not common sense.
Algebra is my weak subject but Sarria explains everything from scratch and step by step. He lets you do test corrections and reopens the homework at the end so you can work on it some more. He also works out a lot of examples and then lets you try them on your own which helps a lot. Lots of homework though!
pop quizzes are random problems he makes up. his teaching style is him just mumbling to himself and then being confused why you can't read his very disorganized notes on the board. the homework will be your saving grace. you NEED to show up. he doesn't usually explain why/how well, and may makes it harder than it needs to be
Grade comes from three tests and a final, weekly homework and quizzes. He lets you correct two of the tests for partial credit. Take notes! The tests and quizzes are literally based on problems he works out in class. Good class overall he does plenty of problems and explains them well.
Its not an easy class but you have to earn your grade. If you attend class and pay attention to the examples he does on the board you will be ready for the test. He allows test corrections and drops a quiz. He also lets you rework the homework at the end of the semester.
Prof. Saria definitely knows his stuff. He explains everything from the foundation so you can understand so if you just want to use formulas without understanding then do not take him. Everything you need to ace the tests and final is done in the class examples so take notes and do the in-class problems he gives.
If you take this class be ready to take a lot of notes, but make sure you take them because of the pop quizzes. The way he explains a lot of concepts is very overcomplicated. The online homework helps clear things up. He doesn't really answer questions, he kinda expects you to know how to do things, and puts problems you've never done on tests.
Make sure you go to class and take notes. The problems on the tests and the final resemble the problems he does in class but with different numbers so learn how to do those and you will get an A. He explains things very thoroughly. Highly recommend!
Professor Sarria is an overall fairly decent professor. In order to pass his class you need to take all the notes you can and do some studying and researching on your own. 3 test and one final that is 25%. We had pop up quizzes almost every friday. He never answers questions in class and when you ask them he makes you feel kind of stupid for asking
He makes you work for your grade but as long as you take notes and do the practice problems in class you will ace the tests. He lets the final replace your lowest test grade which can be a lifesaver.
Prof. Alejandro explains the concepts clearly although he moved a bit too fast on some sections. Lots of business applications. Overall a guy who really knows his stuff. Plenty of extra credit, weekly online homework, popup quizzes, three tests and a final. Final, can replace lowest test grade which raised me from D to B!
He is very funny but he's not great at explaining problems.
I was extremely disappointed. He did not adjust the curriculum for the Summer Term and used the same material he teaches in the Fall and Spring. This made the workload difficult and left students less prepared for the final exam. As a result, half the class dropped out, one questions quizzes..... and the class average was a C. I do not recommend.
I took Professor Sarria's Pre-Calculus class during the Summer of 2024, it was a challenging experience. He often gave one-question quizzes. Additionally, he was not prepared with a curriculum suited for the summer term which left many students ultimately failing the course. It was not a positive experience.
Single-question pop quizzes, very difficult tests that didn't align with the homework content, and technological issues hindered the effective conveyance of course material.
Professor Sarria's quizzes are challenging, as they often consist of only one question, making it easy to either pass or fail. The course planning over the summer could be improved, and his teaching style may not be the best fit for everyone.
I liked this class and found the class videos really helpful. Being a summer class means a lot of material is covered in little time so you got to keep up. Mr. Sarria lets you do test corrections and drops a quiz.
It's a hard class being summer and all but Dr Sarria does lots of examples and is really helpful during office hours which you will need given the amount of material a summer course goes over. The tests are just like the class examples and the final is just like the tests. Highly recommend!
The online course is well setup and self contained. It took long to get some feedback on some of the homework but he gave good feedback on the discussion and tests. Proctored final.
Lots of homework and fast paced as all summer classes are. The teacher did a lot of examples which was really helpful. The tests are free response so not multiple choice but the questions come from the examples in class.
Interesting class and professor Sarria teaches it very well. Good feedback and a proctored final but not tests.
The summer study material consists mostly of one-question quizzes and written tests, which leaves very little to engage with or work on. It feels quite minimal for a comprehensive review.
The professor is solid in Fall and Spring but struggled with the summer course. Lectures are fast and packed with info, but the pacing and organization were lacking. With only two days to review and learn new material before the final, the course felt rushed and disorganized. I didn't like that there were one question quizzes and all written tests.
It's a fair summer class. Get ready to read the book and go to office hours because it moves fast!
The course was setup nicely and the class schedule pretty much tells you all you need to do. He assigns lots of homework so you can't fall behind the good thing is all homeworks are scheduled from day one so you can get ahead.
Professor Alejandro's teaching was good, but the summer curriculum's organization and planning were problematic. The course became overwhelming, especially towards the end when units were crammed into single days. As a result, the majority of the class struggled with low test averages and challenging written tests and one question pop-quizzes.
I had to withdrawal he was terrible. Didn't take time to thoroughly teach lessons, complained when we asked what was on upcoming tests to prepare, HW is very lengthy & multi part questions, the girl that sat behind me helped me understand what was going on more than the professor. The only good thing was the amount of friends I made in that class.
The test reviews before each test are really helpful and you will get an A if you solve them. He records all lectures too which is also great help if you fall behind or don't understand something. He's really helpful during office hours too. A pretty hood teacher overall.
Not an easy class but you learn everything you need from the lectures and homework but if you do the test reviews you will get an A on the tests. He gives pop one question quizzes and in class activities.
Dr. Sarria is a great math professor. I have never been stellar at math but his teaching style combined with the relatively easy content of the class allowed me to do better in this class than I expected. It's a low-effort class, with weekly supplemental homework graded for completion. He gives pop quizzes, but most are open note.
don't take if you struggle in math. He's very unenthusiastic to do his job. don't recommend
I am bad at math but found Mr. Sarria teaching easy to follow. He records every class so you can watch it all as many times as needed and you need to do the test reviews if you want an A on the tests. Recommend.
Homework will take a couple hours every week, but is actually helpful. I hate math but if you have to take I would take it with him. You'll get credit on every test question as long as you write something, saved me many times. Says attendance is mandatory but quit taking it after the first week.
Professor Sarria does care about his course. Took him in the Fall of 2024. There were homework every week and you need to spend hours on it Pop up quizzes. However he records every lecture and it was helpful. Sometimes it was difficult to understand what professor was saying. Be ready to participate and study a lot for tests.
Was very hard to learn from him but if you are decent at math and do the online homework and practice tests you will do good on the exams.
He records class meetings which is useful if you miss class or can't make it. The three tests and final exam all come from the practice tests he gives and the last homework assignment the only difference is he changes the numbers. Pretty straightforward class.
I'm pretty bad at math and ended this class with a 55 and he bumped it up to a D. He is the goat. Doesn't care about attendance and lets you use a cheat sheet on tests. Very chill guy. The final was actually hell tho so good luck…
take him if you want to teach yourself. I DO RECOMMEND TUTORING helped me throughout the class and was able to pass. He's a bit confusing on the way he teaches math but overall STUDY STUDY!!! the practice exams are sort of similar to his actual exams.
GO TO CLASS and do the practice tests and youll get an A with him. The test problems are kinda the same problems he does in class many times. The knewton homework was annoying af!
If you are not a math person do NOT take this class. I'm not good at math and this class crushed me and my gpa. He's an ok guy but if you don't understand something, he talks to you like you're an absolute idiot. I rarely missed class and worked harder in this class than all others combined only to get a D in this an A's in everything else.
He didn't give us the final grade for our final. He emailed one of my classmates a couple days after the semester ended saying that he still hadn't put the curve on the final and second semester is about to start and still hasn't put the curve on it. So basically we never got a final grade.
