His class is boring, he tries to explain but the concepts are not easy to understand, very difficult class.
Great prof!
Amazing Professor! If you have the chance Take him! His lectures are very mind blowing & he is very knowledgeable. You will use the book for class. He gives out several quizzes and essays(No tests or final) but they aren't hard because he is very clear with everything and tells you everything you have to know for them. TAKE HIM! I RECOMMEND HIM!
Loved this professor. Prior to this class I had minimal interest in Philosophy now I find it incredibly interesting. Attendance not mandatory but necessary to pass. Pay attention and participate in class discussion and you'll love his class too.
Great professor! Knows what he's talking about. Few quizzes, few essays, very easy if you've paid attention and read the assigned chapters. You should get the books, you should go to class. He's great, he's funny and keeps it interesting.
Very good professor. Knows what he is talking about. Three easy essays and four short multiple choice quizzes taken online are the only assignments for the class. I highly recommend him if you want an easy A as well as learn a lot.
Definitely one of those classes you get excited to attend, and actually enjoy. No final or mid-term, and only three essays and blackboard quizzes. Anyone can get an A. Just don't be prideful and take your essay to the Writing center. Also truly ensure that you completely abide by the outline for the essay.
He is a great professor loved attending his lectures. grading ok, only 3 essays . some quizzes and like 2 surprise quizzes in class. I definitely recommentd !
Very interesting class, though somewhat hard to pass with an A. His lectures are easy to understand, make students think hard, and allow them to engage in debates. The only flaw is that TAs grade as if everyone there is an aspiring philosopher. They expect you to write like a philosopher and oversee the fact that you understand the material.
Make your life easier and keep up with the readings! Very easy to shrug off because he explains in power points. Very cool guy who allows class discussion to flow through different topics and occasionally gets distracted. I honestly loved this class and he changed the way I thought about a lot of things.
Great teacher and very funny!
Do NOT take if you don't like reading! Just don't if you want an easy grade...
Very interesting class, good lectures that really make you think. Readings are mandatory though, so make sure to keep up with them. Other than that pretty cool class.
He's a great professor. Ethics is a tough subject to learn but he kept the lectures interesting. You have to write three ethics papers and there's two surprise quizzes, all of which are based on the textbooks. You have to read a lot so the class isn't super easy but I enjoyed it.
He is a good instructor but when it comes down to his assignments his grading is really difficult.(Essay 1: 25%, Essay 2: 20%, Essay 3: 15%) So if you dont do good on your first essay it's going to hurt your grade. Also he doesn't help you when you need it. email him and you wont hear back from him until a week later. DO NOT reccommend.
He's intelligent. He's hot. His class will blow your mind. Just read and and take notes during lectures. BE prepared for essays and quizzes on the reading. Awesome class. And he's very funny too. You won't be bored.
DO NOT RECOMMEND. He's a good professor but his grading criteria sucks! If you did poorly on one assignment you can easily fail. I don't recommend.
He is a good and funny professor, but the way he teaches the material can be very hard to grasp. Attendance is not mandatory, but I highly recommend to go if not you will miss a lot. Do not miss any assignments because you can easily fail the class.
Alex is a great philosophy professor because he is very clear at explaining the difficult concepts that are in his course. Make sure to do the reading since the concepts are difficult and he does do pop up quizzes. I can see how you can easily fail this course. Pay attention, read the book. Great teacher.
Best class I have taken so far. The content is really interesting and he makes it funny too. The class is not that difficult as long as you pay attention in class. You don't really have to read the book. This class is fairly easy if you are a good and clear writer and if you pay attention. I didn't make the A because of the pop quizzes.
Amazing teacher
He teaches good, he gives good examples (mostly from the books) but he obviously understands everything and can apply it. He's a little annoying because he kind of likes to pick fights, interrupt people, and do things just to get a rise out of people but he's ok. The quizzes, midterm, lectures all make sense. You HAVE to read!! VERY interesting!!
He is insightfulfunny, and the topic is really engaging. It requires you to think and reflectquestion what you believe, which is good. Definitely worth taking. Almost made me want to minor in philosophy, but the department looks like it mostly sucks except for a couple of professors. It is what it is. Take this dude's class, though.
he is awesome. He is really understanding as well. ! As long as you don't miss ANY reading and you will be fine. But listen to me when i say ANY reading. You need to reed them all.
Words cannot explain how much I enjoyed this class. He's such an amazing professor! He is just so passionate about philosophy his eyes would literally shine when he was giving the lecture. He is a very positive person and I loved going to class every day. I wish I could take more courses with him. The tests are super easy if you actually read.
Aleks is such a great professor, all these other ratings will tell you. As long as you read, read, read, easy class!
Great prof, you can tell he really loves philosophy. Likes to push buttons, but in an ethics course that's kind of the point, to get you to challenge your own worldview. I thought he was pretty funny, and he really engages with you in class if you're brave enough to speak up.
Great professor. Just read and take good notes as it will be helpful for your weekly quizzes. He is very organized and you will be interested in all his lectures. Most of the midterm and final come from some of your weekly quizzes throughout the year so keep those around you.
Professor Aleks is a great professor and is very helpful. Philosophy in general is just a REALLY hard subject but Professor Aleks does his best to make sure that you pass.
Aleks was an alright professor. Philosophy itself is the most difficult subject that I have ever had to take and unfortunately Aleks didn't help with it. His lectures would put me to sleep. He does have pop quizzes once every 3-4 weeks. Even if you get 0's on every pop quiz you will still pass the class thanks to the essays and midterm/final.
Aleks is a pretty cool guy, you can tell that he loves philosophy. His pop quizzes are not hard at all, you just have to read the material the day before. If you miss one surprise quiz, it doesn't really matter because the essays and midterm/final are the ones that count the most. Its a cool class, except lectures are long and boring.
If you are NOT a Philosophy major or anything related to that, don't take him. He is a good and passionate professor but he assumes everyone should love Philosophy and the grading criteria is tough, so if Philosophy and writing is not your thing you will cry every time you need to write a paper.
He was one of the best teachers I have ever had in my life. I don't really like philosophy but I learned to love it, it is a little hard though. However he is of great help and the things we do are pretty easy.
Professor Pjevalica, is one of the BEST professors you will probably have throughout your undergraduate career. His lectures make you think outside the box and will also make you question your life choices. Don't skip class because there are easy in class assignments and pop quizzes.
I really liked this class, he is inspiring and funny. Would definitely take again. Just make sure not to miss too many classes since he does about 8 pop quizzes during the semester and also in-class assignments, and if you miss too many it really affects your grade. He explains things very well.
Aleks is a really smart professor. He will challenge you to do your best. Philosophy is very hard to grasp if your not interested in it. Do not expect an easy class. Take this class ONLY if you are interested in philosophy. If you need a humanities credit go with world history it's easier.
This professor was amazing. I have never been so intrigued in a class before. Every minute of this class is interesting. I had taken ethics with another professor and was falling asleep but with Aleks you are always thinking and wondering and it feels amazing. Need more professors like this.
Great professor, he's very passionate and his lectures are great. Just remember to follow the syllabus and read the chapters. Try and participate as much as you can.
It will definitely not be one of those classes in which you show up without reading the material first. Participate, make sure he knows who you are and do not miss class because he does give in class quizzes and writing assignments on the assigned readings. Overall amazing class, you will come out of there a different person! 87 and above is an A.
100% recommend you take a class with Aleks if you get the chance. I had a hard time understanding the reading material but his lectures make everything so clear and interesting. You will walk out of this class a changed person. Don't try to argue with him he will make a fool out of you. Beware of random pop quizzes and writing assignments.
As soon as you walk into class you will automatically be motivated to do well on exams/quizzes and do all your reading because this professor is HAWT
Aleks is a great professor, he is passionate, inspiring, and helpful. Make sure you pay attention and READ the chapters.
He is very professional, the lectures are always very interesting, and explains everything clearly. His class is well structured, however, I highly recommend that you read and understand the material for it is challenging to grasp at first. He gives excellent feedback when asked something. Got me into reading Plato's work. He is a genius.
Attend class, read the chapter(s) and additional readings (normally posted on Blackboard), ask a question you and will get great feedback. He is an excellent professor, always motivated and enriched with knowledge. His lectures are amazing, for he will make sure you understand the material covered in class. The readings are challenging, but good.
Aleks gives great lectures and really loves what he is doing he can be funny and is cute which is a plus. He requires essays for a lot of the readings almost every week but as long as you try on them and do them you will get a good grade in the class.
the only class I look forward to, and the class started at 7:30 in the morning.
He is a genius. He know about EVERYTHING! Physics to Religions. He is very professional, he respect all the students. He loves what he does, that's why his class is awesome! It took me to another level. I learned a lot about philosophers. However, you MUST study, read and attend it. The test are very hard and confusing. 4 EXAM Pop quizzes 2 ESSAY
Aleks is an awesome professor. He's very passionate about his work and makes the class very interesting. There is a lot of reading and random surprise quizzes on the material. There is no homework, other than reading, and 2 essays. There are 3 exams and one comprehensive final exam. You need to work for your grade.
This class is not an easy class. Get ready to read A LOT. If you dont read you fall behind a lot. All his exams are on blackboard but they are really though. His lectures are amazing, he is a great professor and caring for his students. He will give you advices to improve but it is really up to you to do well.
He made this class enjoyable and relatable. As long as you read BEFORE going to class, everything else is easy. That is all he really requires of you, he will explain, in detail, the reading material assigned and he allows for class discussions. Very interesting class.
Very nice professor and really enjoys to teach. Only thing is the content is very difficult to understand sometimes but he tries to simplify it . I screenshoted all the exams and the final . I would totally give it to you all so you can "reference".
Amazing class, definitely would take this course again. I learned a lot , he is hilarious so it makes you want to listen. Just read and beware of pop quizzes, but all tests are taken online ! :)
If you want to learn about philosophy and have a great time learning Aleks is the professor you are looking for. He is passionate about the topics so it makes you to pay attention to everything he says, he gets involved within the students, and he always makes it funny. He has pop-up quizzes but most of them are always after the exam. Have fun!
There are 3 online exams worth 10% each (30 questions). The final exam is online and 30% (40 questions) . The pop quizzes are 10%(5 questions/reading), the in class writing assignments are 10%(credit/no credit basis), there is one essay which was 20%. 87 and above is an A. Class was interesting but I managed to fall asleep anyway. :)
I loved this class and the discussions we had were super interesting. The only hard part was that there are such little grades, its difficult to maintain an A. Took a lot of work, not the hardest class but definitely not the easiest. Don't fall behind in readings either, those surprises quizzes and in-class assignments get you.
Read every chapter because he will give random pop quizzes. The quizzes are straight forward and super easy. if you read you'll pass. Exams are also easy just as long as you read. The class itself is interesting so it's hard not to pay attention. Professor Pjevalica is super funny so he makes the class interesting. just be ready to read!
Graded on: 5 in class assignments, 5 "surprise" quizzes, and 5 online exams. He always give a warning for the quiz the class before. There are two textbooks. His lectures are taken directly from both. Not a hard class to pass. In class assignments are participation based so if you do it its 100. Most exam questions can be found on quizlets.
By far one of my favorite professors Ive had at Utep his lectures are amazing
great professor and he is really passionate when reading, would recommend to read the books for pop quizzes.
interesting lectures, surprise quizzes when you least expect it
He's a great teacher, but I did find some of his lectures repetitive and a little boring if you'd really studied the reading. If you get the book and you do all the readings you'll do well. He does pop quizzes on the reading that are worth about 10 percent of your grade.
Professor Pjevalica is amazing. You leave his class rethinking your life every single lecture. He's hilarious, and will make a fool out of you if you try to argue with him (but in a fun way if that makes sense). His exams can be a bit tricky, but you will definitely enjoy the class. If you read, you'll be set!! If not, then just attend his lectures
This was my second attempt at iPHIL1301, my first professor was lackluster and poorly explained the material. Aleks, as he likes to be called, completely turned the subject around for me. He makes the material very easy to understand and is one of the few professors who's able to have a debate with a student without acting elitist. A-1 Professor!
Great professor, makes the class very interesting and will help you understand the material in several ways. He is very passionate about the topics he teaches. Has a strict no electronics policy.
Keep up with your readings as he does give pop quizzes. All exams are on blackboard and they are not bad as long as you understand the concepts. Make sure to attend class and stay all the way through as there are in class writing assignments. You will also have to write a paper toward the end of the semester, but he gives you plenty of time.
He loves when there is debate about the topic on the lecture, answering the claims respectfully, making sense his argument. Check ALL the material that the professor provides on the syllabus. That is the key to pass the course! He always ansers the emails or the discussion board on blackboard.
Professor Pjevalica makes his lectures very entertaining. He makes sure you understand the concepts by explaining in such a way that it gives you a laugh but makes you understand the theories. Beware of pop quizzes and he has a strict no technology policy. Great teacher, would recommend taking the class with him.
He is a very good teacher but you have to prepare yourself to read a lot.
Really easy class. This is an intense reading course and is required to pass becaus ethere are summaries due every week for the readings. Over all great class and great professor. I have take 3 of his philosophy classes and have yet to be disappointed! Attendance is not mandatory but helps because he usually never posts the powerpoints.
He is an amazing professor that you can tell cares about ethics and his students. His lectures are very descriptive, especially for someone who never understood the readings from the textbook. His exams mainly focus on his lectures and a tiny bit on the textbook. As long as you take good notes from the lectures, you should be good for the exam.
I loved this class! The lectures are worth watching, the txbks are work buying and keeping. Dr. Aleks is an amazing instructor. Communicates well and is always encouraging for participation. I highly recommend this class, even if you just need something to fill your schedule. Having health issues, I appreciate having compassionate and understanding
LOVED THIS CLASS!!! Prof. Aleks uploads short videos covering the main points from the readings and guiding you throughout what he wants you to focus on. You definitely have to do the readings and take notes, but if you do that and watch his video then you will easily get an A. There is an essay, kinda long but pretty straight forward.
Super easy professor! Hes a very awesome and dedicated professor. You can tell he loves what he does. The curriculum is fairly easy and his lectures are really interesting. Keep on top of the readings and do the discussion boards/exams on time. Pro tip: Dont wait last to do you essay! Awesome class
Amazing professor, he knows how to make the class interesting and makes you think a lot about everything, likes to debate and hear his students' opinions. Easy A and very interesting class
I had this class online and asynchronous, so it is difficult to say what Dr. Pjevalica is actually like. The work was really easy, but there was a ton of reading to do. Easy A if you are willing to read.
Professor Pjevalica is an amazing, respected professor. His lectures are really interesting and everyone likes to participate in his class. Attendance is not mandatory, however you do need to catch up on the readings. The material on the exams are always mentioned in the lectures. Would definitely take his class again.
This class is one of the easiest class I have taken, as well as having a great professor even if you dislike philosophy. Grades consist of a weekly discussion board, easy exams, and an 1200 word essay due at the end of the semester.
Dr. Pjevalica is amazing. The way he taught this class helped me develop amazing critical thinking skills and has definitely helped with life decisions. He gives 2-3 tests online, and one final paper with different prompts to choose from. He cares about helping you understand hard concepts and is open to help you succeed in class with a good grade!
Lectures were very interesting and engaging, would try to get input and opinions from students depending on the topic. Lecture isn't mandatory but should attend to better understand the information. Grade depends on discussion board, exams, and an essay that you have plenty of time to do. Overall great teacher and great class, would recommend.
The lectures are fun he makes sure you are putting attention. Make sure to take a lot of notes since exams are based on the lectures.
very nice professor, his lectures were interesting, his tests were take home and very easy, only thing i kinda struggled with was the essay required at the end of the semester but he gives you almost two months to complete it.
Lecture isn't mandatory but you should attend since the material on the exams is always mentioned in the lectures. Grade depends on weekly discussion boards, 2-3 exams online, and a 1200 word final essay that you have 2 months to do. He will not give ANY extra credit or allow for make ups on assignments as he is very strict on his syllabus!!
Amazing professor. Make sure to attend lectures as tests are heavily reliant on things he says in the lectures. Take notes. Read the content before class to have a better understanding. Tests are easy as long as you pay attention, there is only one paper which you have plenty of time to prepare for. Overall a great class.
This professor is awesome. He does take attendance every class. He has a long assignment every 2 weeks and 2 long essays throughout semester.
This class is very much focused on lectures, for the slides he has up can only be completed if you go to class so better not skip. He is great at explaining things in a manner that appeals to us and is very kind and funny. For grading it's weekly journals, 4 exams, and a final written paper which you can get an A on if you try.
Assignments consisted of weekly discussion boards, 4 take-home exams and 1 essay due at the end of the semester. Most of the content of the exam was mentioned in class, so attending is important. Essay might seem difficult, but you have 2 months to do it. Good professor, entertaining class.
Great prof but all the jokes about Canada and Canadians get a bit tiring after a while
Nice professor who tries to keep students eganged in lectures to understand the material. Reading is necessary in order to understand lectures. His class is fairly easy if you read and pay attention. Only downside is he doesn't answer emails have to go to his office directly. 4 exams and 1 final essay, all with exams you may use your notes.
He was a good professor and had good class discussions. He didn't grade often, and doing the discussion boards didn't really impact my grade much. The only significant factor was the tests, which were spaced out, so my grade didn't improve much. There weren't enough opportunities to raise my grade outside of the exams.
Not as engaging as I would've liked it to be, being that it's Philosophy. Very few class interaction or debating
Overall a good course, in order to understand the material you must read what he assigns & attend the lectures. Grading consists of 5 exams, one of them being the final & the most important part of your grade is the final essay. Essay is a bit challenging but an easy A if you prepare and take your time on it, gives you two months to turn it in.
Attendance is not mandatory, but exams are heavily based on lectures. Notes are posted for the entire semester and cover all topics discussed, there are incomplete slides that are only filled if you attend the lectures. Discussion boards and exams most influence your final grade, they are easy if you go over your notes regularly.
This class was underwhelming/not engaging. The Professor is an odd guy. He was patronizing at times, even saying the material was too convoluted for us, when he would ask questions and no one would respond. His teaching style is outdated and overrated. I had heard his examples before. He didn't try making them relevant to the current times.
I've had nothing but exceptional experiences with this professor. His lectures are engaging and thoughtfully delivered, and he always encourages open discussion. He is professional, understanding, and genuinely cares about his students. His assignments are clear, purposeful, and set you up for success.
I had never liked ethics courses before but this class was my favorite! He makes his lectures very entertaining and interesting. Exams are based on the material covered in class and you can use your notes. It is very easy to earn an A in his class just do well on the exams, participate on discussion boards, and write a good essay.
Aleks, it's a really good professor; he explains the topics well. Attendance isn't mandatory, but his classes are really good.
Very good class with a professor who was actually well-educated on his craft. He had a very strong passion and it was a very enjoyable course. Very few assignments, but those weekly discussion boards add up if you don't do them. Major project at the end was given at the very beginning - it was very lengthy, so get a head start if you can.
Nice professor with engaging lectures and promotes students to participate and discuss. Easy weekly online assignments and 5 exams online as well including your final, not much writing only one final essay. Attendance is not mandatory but I recommend you go as he discusses all topics during class and can explain any questions.
