this is a very easy class... you have a few quizes and tests,he has a great curve
This class is really easy. Never go, very easy cheating, and the only way to fail is to have a 14 average in the class.. IMPOSSIBLE! (GREAT CURVE)!
he is a kool dude. we like him very much
Naymark is the easiest art history teacher there is. in the upper level courses there is very little work..the midterm is a simple summery of like 4 chapters of a text book. the accent is hard to understand but he is still very awsome.
The class is dreadful, but you don't even have to go. I would say just show up for exams and quizzes, but it takes him 2 months to give them back, anyway. He's extremely unorganized, but the course is easy.
cool, but can never grade on time
Only slackers don't like him. His class is great if you actually want to learn about Art History. He will make you participate. His accent isn't that tough if you just listen. He knows his stuff so well he quotes exact dates without notes.
THIS PROFESSOR IS TERRIBLE. HE HAS AN ACCENT THAT U CAN'T UNDERSTAND AND HE IS VERY UNORGANIZED. YOU HAVE 2 STUDY THE WHOLE BOOK 4 TESTS B/C U DON'T HAVE NOTES, AND THE TESTS END UP BEING 4 QUESTIONS. HE DOESN'T ANSWER EMAILS AND HE IS NOT HELPFUL.
He is a book of knowledge...If you want to learn about art history he is the man to take. His classes aren't stressful and if you payattention you will do well. Pick his brain b/c he is very interesting and knowledgeable
What is there to say about Naymark that hasn't been said...he comes in late sometimes, the room is hot and smelly and all you look at are slides the whole time that are older than he is...NEVER TAKES ATTENDANCE-positive note.

accent is kinda bad,had to memorize dates and other stuff was hard.midterm was a project at the MET that was cool.i sat in the back so i dont know if he smelt.
Nice guy, pointless class. I didn't learn a thing in this class and got an A. It's classes like this that give Hofstra the reputation for being a joke of a school filled with slackers and dummies. (In addition to the fact that all the students here ARE dummies or slackers.)
easy class, he's a really nice guy. kinda hard to understand him. you can learn alot if you want to or nothing if you don't. its yer call but he is a great guy.
OMG what is wrong with you people? Naymark is a GREAT teacher. He teaches the material very well. His accent is barely noticable. And he allows you to retake ALL of his exams. Whats there NOT to like? Easy A and you actually learn something. A+

Amazing guy, he is very nice and he will assist you anyway he can. He is very laid back and knowledgable of his teachings. Take him for suure if you need AA or AH
Naymark is THE MAN ! Very easygoing, laidback... Amazing. Take him IF are not intrested in this art stuff take him. His class fulfills the AA section. He is very very helpful.

just cheat! that's how we all got by! Cheat! Proud to be part of the Hofstra slackers!
how did this guy get rated average? he's awesome! the only reason some people have trouble understanding is cuz of the russian accent, and you get used to it pretty fast. he really knows what he's talking about and has of experience.

One of the best teachers at Hofstra! I cant believe that he only has an average rating. It's probably because 1/2 the people never even show up to class, so obviously they fail the tests and are unhappy. He knows his stuff like the back of his hand, you actually learn a lot and its easy if you come to class and review his study guides B4 the tests.
Prof. Naymark is the best Art History prof. Hofstra has. I took his Asian Art class and learned a lot. He is very helpful and always can be found on campus. He also gives great letters of rec's.
On the first day of class, he let all of us know the class was not an easy A. The next day half the class no longer attended. He is quite literally one of the top ten in his field. He knows his stuff, and if you give a damn and actually try, he is very helpful. And the accent is not so bad... people just like an excuse to take blame off themselves.
I enjoyed Dr. Naymark's classes. He teaches well, and you will learn a lot of interesting information. He likes to take his classes on trips to art museums. It was nice to get out of the classroom setting and to see actual art vs. just slides lectures.
naymark's the best prof i had at hofstra. easy quizzes, attendance not mandatory and interesting material.
russian badass. easy grader. makes jokes. laid back, interesting, passionate for his field.
He is an expert in mostly everything. Life, history, and art. Ask him about the hot pepper story. Knows alot about the material. Very helpful. Don't need to go to class, class is boring. Solid Papers=A
AMAZING. He is very intelligent, has a lot of experience in his field and enjoys teaching. He isn't at all condescending, which is weird for professors of his caliber. For AH majors: don't leave without taking him. All others: he's not too difficult. Attendance isn't mandatory, but you might want to keep up on readings.
A very nice guy, and very relaxed (and lax), never really takes attendance, willing to let people hand in assignments late with little or no effect on grades, but the complete opposite of a dynamic teacher. He has a bad habit of showing slides in class, and people tend to fall asleep during his class. Few assignments.
very good professor, kept the material interesting. He is very passionate about his subject and helps those students that ask, isn't too concerned with the slackers. easy class, work load isn't too bad and he's pretty funny.
This guy knows everything you could possibly want to know and more. Very strong accent sometimes makes it difficult to understand what he is saying, but you will get used to it. Class is very interesting and funny, you will learn a lot if you show up.
His lectures were amazing! I find most of the students weren't there to learn, but to get an decent grade. For the few who were interested I couldn't have asked for someone else to truly spark my interest in Art, which I've never had before. So, to Prfessor Naymark. Thanks!
This was an easy class. He knows anything and everything about pre-islam and islamic art.2 Tests were to identify 10 of 15-20 slideshows he showed in class. We took a trip to Brooklyn museum which **he** gave a tour of pre-islamic art section. Take this class if you want a good grade and a relaxing class.
easyyyyyyyy class, awesome class, awesome guy. just try to stay awake. never takes attendance. only gave 2 'tests' the whole entire semeter, which he lets you re-take if you arren't happy with your grade. EASY A. highly recommend.
I liked this class a lot. It was very relaxed. Daily lectures w/slide shows. 4 exams With review sheet slide show printouts. No finals or midterms. Museum trip. Attendance not mandatory. Doesn't care about lateness. Don't buy textbook. Naymark is a good guy and is brilliant.
Liked the class, but its a bit boring. Most people slept. PP's and notes are given in class and the test are identifying "who/what/where /when/why" with 10-15 slides. 3 test. Very relaxed class. Take him. I would again, esp if you're just looking for distribution credit. Don't buy the book, just take notes.I'd take him again.
Took Islamic Art w/ him. Easy A. He might seem kinda "odd" at first, but towards then end I actually liked the class. Would def. do it again if need be. Final is a museum trip, and you could retake your quizzes! It doesn't get any better than that!
This is an amazing man. He has great stories about his life and his vast knowledge of history. For c&e he is the best.
Love this man! He is so knowledgable and he actually made C&E interesting. One of the only reasons I actually attended C&E. Loved his class and him!
Love this man, russian badass. class was boooring but was very easy! only took 2 'tests' and never got any of them back, makes you re-take them if u don't like your grade. Easy A. funny too.
Great professor, only one professor for honors college culture and expression that i didnt hate. He kept it real and knew no one read the books, not even him. He gave everone an A if they basically showed up and listened to him lecture about the history behind the books. He has two short fun assignments and a final.
I have taken him twice class and I am registered to take I'm again next semester his class is easy one to two quizzes maybe I recommend him
Easiest professor I took so far at Hofstra ,I definitely recommend him , class is not mandatory but still go because he is funny and says important stuff that will be on the quiz . If your looking for a easy requirement this class is for you!!
one of the few professors at hofstra that I do not like. i had him in a summer class and we had a quiz every day and had to go to two museums even though the class only went for a month. he did try to be funny but i found his class boring and hated going to it. i do not recommend him
I would not take this class again. All he does is show pictures from power points and talks about them. He then posts the pictures for the quizzes, but it is hard to remember what information went with what picture. The good thing is that you can retake any quiz. One final paper and no final test. 5 little quizzes. Everyone gets As
His class is joke if you need it for AA distrib. He doesn't take attend but gives weekly quizzes where he puts the picture on the screen asking who what where when why about five pictures, also a five page paper at the end from the MET. You don't even have to listen in class because he posts the PP for quizzes but he knows a lot. It can get boring
Quizzes every week on slides that are given over black board. Need to go to the lectures to know why each piece is important for the quizzes. 2 visits to the MET and one to the Cloisters Museum.
Professor Naymark has a very thick accent. His lectures are LONG and sometimes its hard and confusing to understand what he says. But thats about it. To pass his class all you really need is to take notes on the slides. Basically the who what when where and why. Trust me. You'll need that.
I skipped his class for the last 2 months of the semester and my grade did not suffer one bit. One short quiz with 5 short papers on movies that you can look up on wikipedia and no final or midterm or reason to ever be in class. Get the movie titles from a friend in the class and put the papers in his box before end of semester.
all over the place. You will not get grades back- his assignments are tedious. You need to go to class, to take notes on the slides for quizzes he gives every week. You have to visit the MET long lectures. We had two additional 5 page paper which was about 10 ) on art works. Attendance doesn't count but he knows who does attend. calls on random
Probably the least helpful professor I've ever had. He lectures monotonously every class. After the first test he said he wasn't going to Grade them but then gave over half the class in completes for not doing extra assignments he never Mentioned. I think he used to be an easy teacher but has become aware of that reputation and is now indifferent
He is a great teacher, if you dont respect him and dont take him seriously you will fail due to your own negligence. His attendence is very much mandatory, send emails if you cant go , be attentive and raise your hand, study , he knows who doesnt care and will fail if you dont give at least 70 percent , impress him and you will be fine.
It's the easiest class you could ever dream of. There are six short, easy quizzes and a paper at the end of the semester (about 4-5 pages). For the quizzes, he posts slides on Blackboard with all the information and you just memorize what's on the slides. However, you might need to rent or buy the textbook to know why each piece is important.
most boring class if your not interested, but you can cut class and he wont hold it against you or takes points off your average. he gave us 4 quizes of pictures . he lets you retake test n takes u to the met museum than you write an essay on it. you dont have to pay attention just get the text book and look at the blackboards n get the info
The whole class is comprised of the man droning on and on, but the passion & knowledge he has on the subject makes up for it. No other assignments aside from a few quizzes & a trip to the Met that you write a paper on. Quizzes are lecture based, but he posts slides online & you can buy the textbook to study from instead of attending every day.
Class is him rambling on about histroy stories or pieces of art. He does this until class ends then you just leave. (REPEAT ALL SEMESTER). 2-3 easy 10min quizzes on powerpoint slides and a paper on a museum visit (weekend class trip). You prob won't learn a whole bunch but it's an easy class. No assignments, no HW, no tests, no sign in sheet.
Neymark is a mixed bag when it comes to his class. Taking it as a distribution to fill a bracket? He's a dream - no attendance sheet, not hard at all, you could fall asleep with your head on the desk and he wouldn't care. If you're there to learn, however, it's a nightmare. He drones on and on, showing slides and lecturing. Super boring.
Professor Naymark was one of my favorite professors that I've had so far! His lectures can be a little boring at times, but spacing out during them doesn't mean you're going to fail the course. He's very clear on what will be on the quizzes during the semester and if you need any help studying for them, he's more than happy to help you.
I enjoyed his class. I took many of his classes. Understandable and clear, makes his lectures funny and interesting. He gives plenty of feedback and very approachable after classes, too. I recommend him to all.
only gave 3 out of the 4 quizzes he planned. quizzes on on about 7-12 slides of pictures that he labels and gives beforehand. he usually chooses like 5. one paper on the met trip but he was super reluctant to give any details on it. literally said what it was about during class. had to ask him to write out guidelines. don't even have to show up
Not a clue what happened in this course. We were given a book to read at the beginning of the semester that was never tested on. We were supposed to have multiple quizzes, he gave out two and only returned one. We had four papers to write in the last 4 weeks of the course on movies we watched in class. Very easy, very knowledgeable, odd workload
Very easy class. Only had 6 quizzes based on slides in class, and those slides, one four page paper on your trip to the met, and that's it. TAKE HIS CLASS, it's an easy A
The lectures are very interesting, however, professor Naymark doesn't stick to the syllabus at all. They're easy, but you'll need to do very well on the quizzes and final since there ends up being so few assignments. You'll be tempted to skip class a lot since he doesn't take attendance but show up at least once a week so you know whats going on .
Lectures are boring as hell. He says he's an authoritarian who is very lecture heavy. Don't really learn much from the lectures because it's hard to follow and understand what he is saying most of the time. No homework though, and his tests and quizzes are clear. So I guess it's a hit or a miss.
Professor Naymark is one of the most caring professors at Hofstra. He is extremely intelligent and his class is enjoyable and stress-free and he really wants everyone to do well. No homework, no tests. A few quizzes on the slides he posts and one paper. Glad I took this class
Worst prof here ever. Hes extremely rude and will make you feel stupid during office hours unless you talk back. He non stop talks about boring stuff for an hour and a half and does not answer emails. Weekly quizzes are easy, however I do not recommend him. Class isn't as easy as I thought.
Professor Naymark, while one of the most sarcastic and caring guys on campus, is an unorganized storm that bursts through the doors ready to spew out 2 hours of information, OR, put on a movie and Leave. Just leave. He has also fallen asleep during multiple class sessions. Handed in 50% of the things assigned, got A in class.
The class is extremely boring and he has a thick accent. You will definitely want to fall asleep but the class is very easy. He gives weekly quizzes that are comprised of 5 questions . All you have to do is identify the work of art, who created it, the date, the place, and its significance. About 8 quizzes total but he never gives anything back.
Decent Professor. No final or midterm, just 3 papers with power points to use and I will definitely take him again. I would recommend him for any distribution courses. Lecture was long but he doesn't take attendance. Light grader.
Prof Naymark is one of the BEST professors Ive had at Hofstra this far. Although his lectures can be a bit boring, his passion for the subject actually makes the class more interesting. He wants his students to do well and not feel overwhelmed. He gave 3 papers based on powerpoints. No quizzes/tests. I will definitely take him again. GREAT GUY!!
I created this account for him. Worst professor I have ever met. I NEVER get my midterm grade back so I have no idea how to write that fk final. He always says i will post your grade by next week, next week, next week and all I get at the end is the fk letter grade. He didn't care his students or their grades. Boring lectures and thick accent.
Professor Naymark is very knowledgeable about art and is a nice person. I didnt like the format of the class. He would lecture the entire class and didnt provide any notes which made it difficult to know what to focus on. He gave 3 two page papers that werent too bad but they would have been easier with proper notes. He never responds to emails
Honestly the best professor I ever had... I graduated over a decade ago and regret not having left feedback for him then because he genuinely cares about his students. Im so grateful for his attitude on teaching, and frequently hope that hes doing well. The MET should be subsidizing his pay to teach students so enthusiastically at their museum.
Aleskandr Naymark is incredibly intelligent. Don't get me wrong, he knows a ton about art and its origins. The dude can't teach for anything. If you take his class, expect 85 minute lectures with no interactivity or concrete notes. Grades based on 3 papers at the end of the semester with no rubric, guidelines, or rules. Just garbage overall.
I suggest ignoring the other responses because I read them and thought it was a good idea to take the class and I regret it. He comes to class late all the time, never answers emails, is a horrible grader, and doesn't rely on his syllabus at all. I feel bad this is so negative but it's sadly the truth. He made this semester brutal.
He never took attendance and was late to in person classes. He never emailed, the only way the online students knew what was happening was because the class made a groupchat. No work until two papers and a quiz at the end, and never gave feedback
Phew, where to begin with Prof. Naymark. Dude is an absolute legend. Took him for Art History my senior year. Ace his quizzes and go to the museum with him and it's an A. No final, I believe it was optional. I went to his office and asked him what my grade was and he said A, so I didn't take the final. He is a genius when it comes to history! 10/10
Prof does show up late to class and grade late, but makes up for it because the lectures are informative, important stuff is revisited, and your input is encouraged. As long as you can add the info from lecture into your papers you WILL do fine. Many people admittedly did not show up or pay attention in class online themselves, yet they complain.
Professor Naymark only assigned two assignments, both of which were not specific nor graded clearly. He does not answer emails and does not give any type of feedback. He is pretty unorganized and usually talks until someone warns him that class time is over. I would not recommend.
the easiest class taken ever. If your taking this class for the gen ed requirement don't miss out on the chance to have naymark as your professor. If ur taking AH to actually learn i would skip on naymark because he's usually just rambing all class and is usually unaware of where the class is at. Personally i loves him and I'm taking him again for
This class was an easy A. You are only graded on 4 quizzes and a take home midterm and final which are both essays. Everything you need to know you learn in class so even tho he doesn't take attendance you should still show up. He is very knowledgeable on everything he teaches and its not too boring. Would recommend him for an AH class.
he's clearly knowledgeable but his lectures are so boring and dense that there's now way to keep up with them. the readings are long and dull and the criteria for the papers is vague. i'd avoid him
A very interesting professor and a very interesting class. The subject matter isn't very hard to grasp. No textbook. Lectures are long and tedious, but he sprinkles in some funny references if you take good notes you'll be fine. Only a few quizzes and short final paper that is cumulative. Very flexible in terms of scheduling. Pretty easy overall.
Best professor to get an A, BUT his lectures are long and boring mans could talk all day. Not his fault, historical architecture isnt my cup of tea but he can be funny. Quizzes based on powerpoints he gives u to study with, take home final and midterm. BE SURE to meet with him to discuss grades cause he doesn't post anything.
This is the worst professor I have ever had. He was constantly 10-15 minutes late to class, he gave us no information an
This professor is not good. I don't recommend. It's almost the end of the semester and we have not gotten a single grade. We only took 3 quizzes and 1 paper. NO GRADES FOR ANYTHING YET. You won't even know if you are passing or not. All he does is lecture. He got mad at our class for using computers saying "only the front row" can use them.
He doesn't follow his syllabus and has no point values. He just gave us a midterm a month late with terrible instructions. He hasn't given us grades from the 3 quizzes we've taken so far. His lectures are all over the place with random side stories, making it hard to take notes. He assumes that if you have a computer, you're not taking notes.
He doesn't talk about quizzes, the midterm, or even the final in class, by email, or online. He doesn't follow his own syllabus. You genuinely have no idea what is going on the whole semester. He also never answers his email or posts grades. He seems like a nice guy and can lecture forever but following his class is impossible.
His quizzes, midterm, and final are all from his lectures. If you take notes during his class while he is talking, you will have no problem doing well in his class. His lectures are filled with great information, if you have any questions he has all the answers.
He definitely knows what he's talking about and is very educated on the subject that he teaches, but he is a slow grader and doesn't respond much to emails. It is very lecture-heavy, which can be boring but, overall, not too difficult, just two main papers for midterm and final and quizzes in class, which can be retaken or dropped.
Easy A. If you go to class, he does hand back stuff with grades. Papers and quizzes are based on his lectures so make yourself a friend and take turns taking notes cuz it can get boring. You can also ChatGPT beforehand but he's looking for stuff he's specifically said to be included to. Coming from a student that played games and watched Netflix.
Dropped the course early on so I can't say much. Very nice man who is extremely educated and passionate in this field, however very lecture heavy. If you're an auditory learner take the class, if not I would not recommend as it can be hard to focus and keep up with note taking.
