He was a great teacher. He was very clear with everything and his powerpoints were very helpful. You did not really have to read too much from the book, unless he stated specific pages for the exam. Overall, he was an awesome professor and i would definitely recommend him!!!

I can honestly say that Dr. O'Brien is one of the best teachers I have ever had. He loves psychology, loves to teach, and is great at what he does. I highly recommend anyone who is interested to take a class with him.

Alex is by far one of the best teachers that I have had in psychology so far. He is very helpful and makes the material very understandable. He relates the material to his students' lives.

Probably the best prof in the psych department and maybe the top 5 in the univerisity. UW-L made a good pick with this guy. Young, enthusiastic, crystal clear (even in hard subjects), and makes the best use of technology and powerpoint i've ever seen. He grades fair...not too easy, not too hard. I would compare him to Brian Udderman from HPR..

He's fun and a great teacher. But, the class requires A LOT of memorization. And everything is fair game when it comes to tests. If you put in the time and study for the exams you'll do fine. He's great with offering extra credit so if your like me and not good with memorizing a lot of information, it comes in handy!

Alex hopefully will get to keep his job after these next rounds of interviews for his position. He's a great guy, haven't really had to touch the book at all, pretty easy to understand, and loves to talk about really interesting stuff. One of my more accommodating teachers to date at UW-L

This is the 2nd time O'Brien is my prof. I had him in S&P also. The material in L&M isn't as interesting as S&P, but he still does an excellent job at teaching it. 4 tests, 1 paper. In classes that most students would dread, O'brien makes exciting and interesting. We are lucky to have him at UW-L. That's for damn sure.

Alex is an amazing professor. He's very approachable, makes the material easy to understand, is always willing to help his students. He is definitely one of the best professors that I've had at UW-L. He makes topics interesting and wants his students to learn and understand the material.

Good professor in the classroom. Keeps things interesting during lecture and gives a lot of funny real life examples of the material. However, he is a horrible professor if you want your test back within a week or if you want your paper back within 4 weeks of turning it in. He'll promise to have tests/papers back by a certain date and then won't :(

Psych 100 has 4 different professors to teach for the 4 different tests. Dr. O'Brien was the best. He explained things in a clear manner and actually made lecture interesting. I wish he taught the whole Psych 100 class.

He really knows what he's talking about & is enthusiastic about it. (I wish he taught the whole semester!) I wasn't that interested in psych until this class, but he uses very clear examples that make it very easy to understand (of which are during lecture... if you miss/skip all lecture slides are posted onilne within a few days).

Dr. O'Brien was great! He definitely knew his stuff and explained it very well. He is very well organized when it comes to his notes and lectures so it's easy to understand the material. He uses good examples that are memorable and helpful for exams. Plus, he's not so bad to look at for the hour and a half lecture.

Interesting to listen to during lecture-has a good voice. Explains things well. Says to read your textbook, and if you want to do very well on the tests, I would. Homework level is fairly high, there is something to do every week. but GREAT PROFESSOR

Dr. O'Brien is one of the best professors I have had on campus! Makes the material interesting and uses fill-in-the-blank notes so you have more time to pay attention to his lectures, and also posts everything on D2L. His exams are easy if you just read through the notes and some of the textbook. I got a 96 on his exam! Definitely recommend him :)

O'Brien makes class very interesting and enjoyable. Exam was pretty easy along with all of his assignments. I recommend him but for students who don't know, PSY 100 is taught by four professors during the four sections so check out Melanie Cary, Sara Sullivan, and Betsy Morgan also if you're thinking about this class.

He was a showman, and that really helped me pay attention. I liked to call him the sham-wow guy of psych because he was entertaining and I learned a lot.

Great teacher. Made class interesting and fun. He is the first of the four teachers in psych, which makes it harder to learn from the two in the middle because of their different personality and teaching styles. The last professor, Dr. Morgan, makes it interesting again.

So interested in the material and also in helping students understand pretty difficult information. He loves sensation and perception and it is evident. In my 3 years at UWL, he is probably the best professor I have had.

I love psychology and after having Dr. O'Brien, I love it even more. He is very interesting and funny. Unfortunately, PSY100 is divided amongst 4 professors, O'Brien being the first. By the end of the semester you'll hate this class because of the other professors (minus the last one). I highly recommend him!

Great communicator. The course is divided amongst 4 professors and he is first, and arguable the best. To do well on the tests, do the online assignments, quizzes, and reading. No comprehensive final.

O'Brien is awesome! I had him for my first unit in PSY 100 and he was a huge help! Gives a bunch of examples and infinite extra credit was offered. He was willing to improve your grade up to a full letter grade! He is super friendly and I didn't mind going to class due to his videos and activities, despite the huge lecture atmosphere.

PSY 100 is an overall good class. There are four professors and O'Brien is one of the better ones. Do all of the little things (quizzes, critical thinking & discussions) and study and you'll be fine!

Dr. O'Brien was my favorite professor in the PSY 100 class. His lectures were very understandable and interesting, and he always gave excellent examples. Even though I did not speak up in class, he recognized me personally on the day of the first exam because he said he noticed how attentive I was, probably because I sat in a front section though.

Dr. O'Brien's lectures were interesting and made me actually want to learn the content. You take four exams throughout the semester and they're all open book, open note. The class was pretty easy as long as you do the textbook notes and actually watch the lectures.

Take Dr. O'Brien at any chance you can. He makes the lectures engaging and not boring at all. It actually really sucked that he only teaches unit one of this class because he is just that great. He gives great feedback as well and makes things very clear.

So engaging even in hour and a half lectures, made me excited to learn about neurons! He gave a lot of in-depth and relatable examples, and always used class time efficiently. Seemed very prepared all the time (no tech mishaps whatsoever) and knew what he was talking about.

I took this class online, taught with three other professors. Open book exams. I did all of the reading assigned as well as listened to all the lectures. Dr. O'Brien is a top notch public speaker. Lectures were very interesting and delivered in a very engaging way. The Canvas materials were very well organized. Excellent instructor.

Dr. O'Brien is very caring and if you have any questions or concerns he is always available and willing to help. He understands the stress that comes with being a student and is willing to work with you in order for you to be successful. Small quizzes every Sunday require a bit of reading and notes. Very clear on exam content which is nice.

I loved Dr. OBrien. He was very clear with what he was teaching and you can tell hes passionate about it. He was the only professor I had this semester that actually checked in on me personally to see how I was doing outside of school. Its hard to find professors like him nowadays! Take him if you can - hes a great person and professor.

I had Dr. Obrien for the first unit of Pysch100. I really liked him in comparison to the professors of the other units. He made lectures engaging even with them being a long block of time. His unit was slightly more difficult as it was focused on the biological part of psychology but he was very knowledgeable.

Amazing professor. He is by far the greatest most interactive professor I have had at UWL. He is very caring and uses real-world examples to teach you about the concepts. (General psychology is very test heavy, as you have four exams that are all multiple choice that make up your grade.)

Easily my favorite psychology professor out of the 4. Everyone loved his lectures and he was super clear about what would be on the exam. The first unit was my best unit because of O'Brein. He is easy to email if you have any questions as well.

Super chill and makes the lectures interesting

Dr. O'Brien is a funny and likable professor who makes his lectures interesting with jokes and fun examples. He is so nice and cares about teaching, and these are always nice qualities to have. If you use his SparkNotes (fill-in-the-blank note sheets), note-taking becomes easy. We also got a 3-minute break halfway through class too. He's awesome!!!

Good luck finding a better professor in Wisconsin. He was the professor who changed my mind about psychology years ago. So cool, so funny, so real. I would go far enough to tell you to drop a random class you have picked out right now on your schedule you're making and take a psych class with him, you'll see what I mean.

He is definitely the professor to take 331 with! It's 4 days a week but there isn't an insane amount of work for it. A chapter response is due every Sunday. He uses lab time to thoroughly explain assignments and walk you through step-by-step. Exams are all short answer questions but aren't bad if you go to lecture. I learned a lot. Def recommend.

I had Dr. O'Brien for PSY 100 and he was awesome. He was always really engaged in lecture and had so much energy. I always found myself excited to go to class to learn from him. I don't know if this is professional but he reminds me a lot of Bill Hader and I love it. Also, if you just pay attention in class you will understand his content easily.

Dr. O is hands down one of the best profs I've ever had. He really has a gift for teaching and I learned more in this class than any other. He is a hard grader and it can be tricky sometimes but it's worth it. His section of 331 has more lab papers than others I have heard of so keep that in mind, but overall if you want grad school, he is worth it

Pretty interesting lectures, one of my favorite professors. 2-3 weekly assignments including a reflection and a quiz. Attendance is taken through iclicker. Many extra credit opportunities.

I had Alex O'Brien in PSYCH 100 and he was a great professor. His lectures were fun and you could print out the notes before hand so that you weren't cramming in notes while trying to listen. Homework was always due on the same day each week and you always were given a full week to do them. You can tell he cares and is passionate about teaching.

Dr. O'Brien's unit was tough but very manageable. His sketch notes were super easy to follow along with the study guide. STRONGLY recommend using the provided notes, and studying will be a breeze. Dr O'Brian is such a good professor. He gives interesting, animated and fun lectures, and he is a very caring and approachable person. Coursework is straightforward and tests are MC and short answer. Lots of smaller assignments throughout. I loved this class and I would take any other courses he's offering. One of the best profs I've had so far.

O'Brien was a great lecturer, and kept the class engaged. Although I really liked him as a professor, his exam was really hard. There is a lot that goes into the first unit, so you need to prepare right in the beginning. He explains information well, but you definitely need to do lots of additional work to feel prepared.

For the class as a whole, assignments feel like they can be a lot, but never too hard. Extra credit is easy to receive through Sona. A great lecturer and professor.

He is very unclear with the grading policy. Made it seem that by doing extra credit, your grade will get bumped up to the next letter. What they don't say is you need at least 40 extra credit points to do so if you are far away. I would have done way more if I knew this. So when SONA comes out with studies... DO AS MANY AS YOU CAN, YOU NEED IT

His lectures were very engaging, and while the content was hard, he did a great job of providing examples that very quickly made the content make sense. The exam is comprised mostly of application questions. It requires studying, but not unattainable.

Such an amazing teacher

He was one of four professors for PSY100 and was most definitely my favorite. He was funny and related the content to us and didn't go to fast over the content. It sounds weird but his voice is very easy to listen to and engaging. It was hard to lose focus because the content was very interesting.
