Mr. Sample is a character. His class is very challaning. He does care about teaching though, but he doesnt focus on the individual he worries about the class as a whole.
Ah Mr. Sample. This teacher is cool. Class is engaging and interesting. He will make you laugh and is very devoted. I guarantee you will pull something out of this class to use in real life. His class is not hard to pass if you try.
Sample really tries to make the class interesting with his sense of humor. It's a really easy class to pass, all you have to do is show up everyday and pay attention to all the lectures. His extra credit quizes improved my grade.
Super cool fun teacher. I had to drop the class twice cause I'm a schmuck and didt read, but he is super fun and cool. Just pay attention, read and you should do fine.
Alex Sample is top notch. He makes these great analagies and is really fun to listen to during lectures. pay attention and he won't emberass you. I would say this is the funnest class I've had in years.
Mr. Sample is really funny & he really tries to make the class interesting for everyone with all of his goofy analogies. As long as you show up for all of the lectures & take notes, you should do ok in this class.
great sense of humor and straight to the point!
u dont even have to go to his class all the time, just show up for the tests & read the book. also, the xtra credit quizzes really help u get your grade up. i did terrible on the exams, but i aced the essay exam w/c gave me a B for the class. just use all the terms for the essay and u'll do fine- it doesn't even need to make sense.

He's mean to the students. He always picks on them. Not a very nice person.
Sample rocks! End of story!

I enjoyed him as a teacher, I just hated the quizes and multiple choice tests because questions were worded differently or the answers seemed really close together. I did get 100% on the written test and I even had to take that early!
This Professor is okay, but some times he rambles too much.....I dont think we have had any homework yet....but i'm sure when we finnaly do its going to be horribly hard (lol)....oh well, i guess i'll just baredown and pass the class.

Sample is a great person to listen to. He keeps the class very interested and he's an all around great teacher. He lecture do ramble sometimes and doesn't seem as much help is avliabvle but nonetheless he's great
It's all lecture, no work, just tests. You have to listen to his lectures though, but that's tough because he goes off on tangents, so you have to be careful. he has great stories though.
Whoa, this guy goes off on 100 tangents, he's full of hot air. He likes to give a million examples about different situations but never****facts. The whole time I kept wondering "what the hell will I study when we have a test?" He never uses the book. I got my money back before it was too late.
sample....well, he is very one-minded kind of person..doesnt want to hear what you have to say...thinks we are still in a time of segregation and that all whites are yuppies and all blacks are poor and gehtto...so yeah tells lame ass jokes and thinks he is hella funny and likes to make u feel stupid, even though i passed with an A, don't take him!
It was an ok class, Sample is a funny dude, but its one of those classes you really need to study the material tio pass the course. I barely passed the class with a C. There are 4 exams, one that can be dropped. And there are extra credit opportunities worth 5 pts ea. he tends to call on students at times, so watch out.
I learned a lot from Mr. Sample. His lectures were right on the money, in my opinion. He speaks a lot about the black experience in America. So obviously many of the younger students may have to live a little before they "get it".
Samples lecture's are extremely funny, interesting, and just an eye opening experience. He tells the blunt truth about society - the entire class I would take notes and laugh my butt off. As long as you TAKE NOTES and show up to every class and STUDY before the unit tests and get the extra credit points, you will pass!!!
i'd have to say it's an easy class regarding no homework, just listening to his long lectures. his tests are challenging due to the fact that he rewords phrases to test whether or not you know your stuff. his class is interesting, that's about it.
this guy is hilarious. his stories kept me awake during the lectures and his viewpoint on racism was eyeopening. "I NEVER DRIVE IN THE LEFT LANE --- THAT'S WHAT I CALL THE FOOOL'S LANE!"
That man is Hilarious!!! He has weird analogies but they fit in concept wise. What he talks about is the real truth!
He's the only professor teaching sociology. Sad. Whoever said this guy is hilarious don't know what sense of humor means. He's obnoxious & boring as heck. His class is an easy A though if you can stay awake in his class. Don't even bother reading the book. His tests are right out of the lectures.
Sample is the worst teacher ever. he is VERY one sided and if you add to his lecture he will make you feel like a dumb ass! dont read the book just pay attention to LONG BORING lectures...im sorry if you have to take this class!!
I don't know why so many people have given sample a bad rating, but as long as you go to class and TAKE NOTES and STUDY THEM, you'll get an A, just write what's on the board along with the details he gives you. His stories are never really "tangents" because they ALWAYS relate to the material for better understanding. Study for an EASY A.
All you have to do is go to class, pay attention and stay awake. You don't even have to take notes. If you sit in the front and nod and smile the entire semester you'll be fine.
I just took his class in the summer session. Don't bother taking it at all. He does not make sense. He tells weird stories. Supposedly the book is suppose to help, but it doesn't, he and someone else wrote it. I droped the class after 3 days. He is just a bad teacher
i just finished his class this summer and he was fairly easy.he talks alot but does have interesting stories but hes not as funny as he claims. he gives alot of extra credit that will help you on your exams. he gives no homework and only gives exams. just go to class, take notes and read the book and you'll pass.
He is an interesting professor. He gets off subject VERY easily & will untilize his class time for off-the-wall stories that relate to basically NOTHING on tests. No homework, No papers, No projects, it's strictly lecture. If you ask for help, he will belittle you & make you feel dumb for even THINKING about asking.!!!
He's a pretty cool teacher but he has an auditory teaching style and I'm a visual learner. I tried hard to stay awake in his class and I found no connection between his lectures, notes and tests. If you're a listener, this should be a VERY easy class, otherwise you'll end up dropping it like I did. He's cool though, if he were my uncle or sumn.
This is a fairly easy class, 4 tests and 3 extra credit quizzes. Taking notes on exactly what he says is necessary, funny guy too! Sometimes the tests can be kinda hard so be sure to study
Professor Sample tells it like it is. He very well educated, and it shows when he lectures.Sample does tell lots of stories, but its to help students understand the different perspectives. His test are not difficult or easy, u must pay attention in class n at the test questions to do well. Wish I would hav taken his socio15 because socio16 is so good
Sample is a funny guy, but he DOES seem to get off topic rather easily with his jokes and stories, as well as his opinionated rants. Sociology is interesting, but because he assigns no homework and because the exams seem to be concentrated towards the end of the semester, the class is actually a lot more difficult than it seems.
I would have to consider this instructor the worst I have had. Though his class has no homework his teaching style is difficult due to him always getting off topic. He tries to use examples but they dont always make sence and all of my classmates wanted to complain about him. He covers quite a bit and if you pay attention and study you will be fine
Sample rambles on about lots of things. Lets students who seem to agree with him talk for a long time but makes you look like an idiot for asking a question. Notes are useless, they are more like an outline and not very useful. You have to fill in from his lectures. Book is clear and easy, maybe even interesting, but are not the same as the tests!
Sociology is my major. Very disapointed. Didnt learn anything. Class is boreing and his test have nothing to do with book. He doesnt stay on topic so when its on a test we never accually learned it. He brags about how he is going to fail people. If given any options do not take or go to DVC I wish I would of done that.
SAMPLE'S TEACHING METHOD ISNT SO GREAT. HE TELLS ALL THE LAME JOKES AND STORIES OVER AND OVER AGAIN. HIS TEST ARE SO CONFUSING. HE GIVES NO INTEREST OR MOTIVATION TO HIS STUDENTS.
Sample is a horrible professor,His class is one of the classes where you get dumber by listening to him. He give no homework but he don't teach at all. Don't take his class your going to fail.
Best Teacher at LMC, after DAVI....He goes off topic, but makes the class fun and interesting...time flies when you in his class...im taking him again next fall...i got a B in the last class...great teacher.just be ready to study....like you should anyways..all those haters saying hes horrible are just m ad because they dont know how to study..no e
YOU CAN PASS IF YOU STUDY YOUR BUT OFF BUT DON'T EXPECT A FREE GRADE JUST BECAUSE YOU SHOW UP TO CLASS. YOU HAVE TO READ AND STUDY,STUDY VERY HARD BECAUSE HE DOSEN'T EXPLAIN VERY WELL AND YOU'LL BE LOST IF YOU DON'T READ. I GOT A "B" BUT IT WASN'T EASY.
class is fun, although quite short i personally feel it was not enough for test or the coversations in class i barely passed. also his tests are made to trick you sometimes i didnt know what he was asking in the tests. oh and he likes to role play and make you look more stupid. overall great info, but tests are not clear at all. beware
I honestly did not like his teaching style. Most of the time he would ramble and go off topic cracking a joke or two (which were not even that funny) and he sometimes makes you feel dumb if you ask a question if you don't understand something in front of the class. As far as the tests they are a little tricky so spend extra time studying!
Sample is pretty straight forward, attend lecture and read the book. If you don't read the book, don't bother with the class. He tends to ramble which is why the book is extremely helpful. You don't have to stay the whole time, just make sure you copy the outline and read. You could even skim the chapters to get an A. He loves his stories though.
Professor Sample is an excellent Sociology teacher. He really knows the world of Sociology and makes it very interesting by giving examples after an explanation, which is always helpful. You have to read the book, take notes and listen in order to pass the class. Would highly recommend Socio 15 and 16 especially for Sociology majors.
he's teaching style sucks he talks to much and goes off topic.he doesnt make him self clear and the test are sooooo hard!! overall dont take him he is difficult
Professor Sample is by far one of the worst teachers that I have ever encountered. Take his class if you enjoy being humiliated and belittled. I have no idea how he ever obtained credentials to teach other people, because he is NOT good at it. Trust me DON'T waste your time with his class.
Professor Sample is extremely hard and makes no sense. The textbook is essential for this course because you will be teaching yourself this course! AVOID if you can.
Sample is cake. I went to class and paid attention and got an A. Never studied for anything and never took notes. He uses the book in class but besides that I never opened it. He tells you everything you need for the tests, so just pay attention and participate.
Mr Sample is a nice guy, but not the best teacher. His exams are very hard. I recommend studying the book more than his lecture notes if you want to pass. Be aware he will often go on bizarre and random tangents during class. Most people will be scratching their heads, and ask one another "did he really just say that"?
Professor sample teaches the EASIEST class ever!! He structures the class with a safety net so that it is impossible to fail....unless you dumb as hell!! I didnt attend half the class, open the book, or take the final...and passed with flying colors! I went on the sample tour, YAY! it was fun
Sample is a pretty cool guy but he's a TERRIBLE teacher! He talks the ENTIRE class making it very boring and kinda hard to stay awake. I would often leave at the break cuz i couldn't stand to be in there. If you were hoping to get out of his three hour lectures early like most teachers do, you are going to be let down. Good Luck.
Attendance is highly recommended, if you want to pass this class. he doesn't take roll because it's up to you to want to pass this class. it's fairly easy if you just follow along with his lectures and assignment. he is a lot of fun which makes going to class interesting.
I have no idea why Mr. Sample received some awful reviews. He is one of my favorite teachers. His sense of humor is really geared towards the 28+ crowd, so if you are younger, he may appear "corny". All around really nice person!
This professor clearly loves to teach. He is funny, kind, and just. He earns respect and right when you think the classes are long and his lack of taking breaks sucks, he throws you a curve ball and you realize compared to most teachers at LMC, Sample is the bomb. He is totally worth taking and you will be better off overall having him at least
Sample is a character. He is a nice and charming teacher. What I learned through his class is that even when it seems like he is drifting off subjuect, he is still talking about the same thing!!! He just use different examples and view points so everyone understands. The Textbook will be needed and finding a studying method will surely be useful
Sample is a great Professor, He treats everyone equally, provides concise lectures and tests to those lectures and readings. He keeps the class interesting and full of humor. You'll work in this class. Stay on top of your reading and attend classes so you dont miss the lecture notes. Sample leaves your success up to you you get out what you put in
I don't like the way his class is structured. He doesn't have class discussions or allows you to ask questions in class to verify. You have to go to his office hours. He doesn't follow the book so much and goes off tangent a lot. For class participation he'll ask you a question knowing it you'll get it wrong to make you feel like an idiot.
Sample is a cool dude and teaches the easiest class ever. No homework, 4 exams and the amount of extra credit is just absurd. He drops your lowest exam score too. I never took notes or opened the book. This class is so easy I?m surprised the college hasn?t lost its academic accreditation merely by including it in the course catalogue.
HORRIBLE HORRIBLE Instructor! Sample always rambles off with his stupid analogies that barely relate to the course. It throws me off and it throws off my readings. DO NOT TAKE HIM. You dont even have to be in class but his lecture and test never relate.
He talks and talks no presentation just lecture. He tells you everything you need to know for the test and its written on the board. If you dont understand something he will re-explain. Took him over the summer. Class not mandatory but his lecture is what is on the test so dont miss it!
Sample is the most unorganized professor i've yet to come across! He talks and rambles on and on about himself and having nothing to do with lecture. I dread his class weekly! He doesn't take the time to answer questions in class and if you would like to discuss any exam you have to meet him in office hours. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS.
This is by far the easiest class. If you don't like homework, take this. Sample is so easy going and I probably went to 6 classes and got an A.. Easy test's and tons of extra credit!
Easy class. No homework, except reading the textbook. There are 4 tests, but he drops the lowest score. There are also 4 quizzes, which extra credit. Bottom line, the class was easy; I ended up with 'B' in the class, but I know I could have gotten an 'A' if I had put more effort in the class.
I liked him as a person, but as teachef his lectures never matched the test. GOING TO CLASS WAS ABSOLUTELY POINTLESS UNLESS HE GAVE A POP QUIZ. My advice to you is READ YOUR BOOK that's the only way you will pass.
If you take good notes and study the book you will do just fine in the class. There is no homework except to study the material. Prof Sample brings a different view to the world because of his background. He can tend to be long winded and talk about things that don't matter. Sometimes his jokes fall short, but he did try to keep it entertaining.
Sample is a super cool teacher, one of my favorites I've ever had. Super funny- always gave me a good laugh. He uses a lot of analogies..some off topic, but he gets the point of the topic across. No homework. As long as you listen, take notes, and study, you can easily get an A. (and theres a lot of extra credit quizes!)
I wanted to major in sociology and go on to a social work program, that all changed after his class. I was not challenged and was bored to tears. His lecture vs the book did not match up. There were no assignments and I had no idea what my grade was. Dont get me wrong, I liked him as a person and he was funny but this class was pointless
He is a nice and funny guy but gets very carried away with his stories. I learned a lot by reading the textbook. Surprises you about 4 times a semester with pop quizzes.
Alex Sample is the worst teacher ever. He shouldn't even have be allowed to teach, he discriminates against white people it's sickening and uncomfortable. His tests make absolutely NO sense. His classes are pointless. Take sociology at DVC because Sample is a waste of time and money!
As a person, I wish this instructor the bet. But I would not suggest him to anyone that wants to learn the subject. He is old school and refuses to be flexible. There is no EC, pop quizzes when his toe twitches and never reviews the results of quizzes or exams. Therefore, you will not learn anything from this instructor. I will retake w other inst.
Most boring class I have ever taken. He does not engage the class at all and has pointless stories that he tells. His tests are 95% book, 5% lecture so if you just read the book you will be just fine. Extra credit is available to pad your grade.
Alex is a nice guy but his teaching methods suck. This subject is a chokepoint - he is the only professor. Required text is customized and overpriced. Regularly singles out students for ridicule. Lectures are understandable but peppered with boring and unfunny jokes; the challenge is to stay awake. Regurgitate what he wants and get an easy A.
He gives 4 tests lowest score is dropped. He gives 4 extra credit quizzes. His tests are sort of hard. Some questions dont make sense or in the textbook/lecture. says alot of jokes and puts people on spot asking them questions on the material
his class can be very boring. He tells jokes through out lectures. 4 tests. 4 random extra credit quizzes. Only take his class if your willing to actually study and read the book. His tests are very hard. The questions can be tricky or confusing. So be prepared
This class deals with race and ethnicity. I took this class several semesters ago he's got into arguments with students because he sometimes had no filter with his opinions. He can be disrespectful to students because of what he thinks. Terrible teacher just wants to collect students money and make the class hard.
He is awful. He thinks he's funny, but he is so boring. He does not teach, he just rambles. You have to literally teach yourself from the book. The class is based solely on 4 tests, but he drops your lowest grade & gives 4 extra credit quizzes which are literally the only good thing about the class. You must have the book. Sorry if you're taking it
I couldn't stand his humor. He thought he was very funny but he wasn't to me. His class is a basic lecture and tests. But it's very important to read the book or you won't pass. He was an overall good teacher though.
I can't believe that anyone who walks away from this class hasn't learned one thing. As a returning student, I consider myself culturally/socially intelligent, and I walked away with an abundance of information and a better understanding of our society. Class is lecture based, so you must show up, period. Sample is energetic, fun, and intelligent.
Sample could have easily taught at a more *prestigious* univ, because he's a smart man. He is funny and MOST of his stories/analogies are on point and they truly help you understand the content in the book. Lecture based. Must take great notes & read the book. Tests can be challenging. READ! You will need to think critically, but you will learn
Great instructor
Horrible. He's so confusing with his stories. He rambles. Thinks he's funny but he's not at all. Talking about "these folks have no idea what I'm talking about" referring to the BET network. It's only been 3 class periods and I'm already over it.
Sample is a very interesting teacher. He has some funny stories up his sleeve and really knows his sociology, especially since he's been teaching it for several years. My best advice is to take your notes and read your chapters. UNDERSTAND YOUR VOCABULARY WORDS. Then review.
I read the text book in and out, took notes in class, 100% attendance, listened to his off the wall stories and hardly any of it was on the exams. The questions were confusing and twisted and I think he sets you up to fail. This class was a waste of my time.
This class was pathetic and the teacher thinks he's a know it all. Claims to be an expert, but answers questions with a sarcastic remarks. I could care less about his stories, just teach me the material. The test were a joke, designed to fail students. Some questions were not factual and very general or based on his opinion or the majorities opinion
Contrary to most people, I didn't like Sample at all. He jokes around a lot, but it isn't funny at all. This subject interested me but after taking his class I was less interested. You don't need to attend every class but it definitely makes a difference when the tests roll around. He gives extra credit quizzes often which are helpful.
If you cant tell how the instructors teaches what is the point of this site...
If you cant tell how the instructors teaches what is the point of this site... I am dissatisfied with this site I cannot be honest about Samples teaching style
awful, awful i cannot express enough how ridiculous this professor is. he is truly anoying, worst fact is that i need to take his class again in the spring, i am dreading it. His teaching style is flaky at best, talks too much and analogies are not helpful. go to class for extra credit quizzes that pop up YOU WILL NEED THEM
When I first went to Mr. Sample's class, I thought he was funny and energetic. Although through out the semester his jokes became sooo annoying . He does do pop quizes so it is important to always go to class. Study by reading the chapters because quiz and test scores are basically your grade
He gets a lot of heat, but he is a good teacher, but you HAVE TO THINK. he isn't going to hand you and easy A. no you will have to work for it. The stories do have meaning whether you think so or not, you just have to find the connection. i have sat in that class every day and i have over 100% and i dont study at all. or read the book. its not hard
Before I came to Sample's class I was extremely interested in sociology. I changed my mind about majoring in it but he's not the worst professor out there. He jokes around a lot, his jokes are never funny though. Your grade is based on quizzes and tests only. You need to be in class everyday and you absolutely need to read the textbook.
I withdrew from the class because it is hard to figure out what he is telling you and all the tests come from the book so STUDY the book and the second to last test you don't know what you got on it until the next semester! So don't ask about grades! He does a lot of storytelling too, its hard because he puts some of his stories on the exams.
Contrary to what most say about Sample, I think he is a great teacher. If you want to be on his good side, I would suggest sitting in the front row. His extra credit quizzes aren't really unexpected because he mostly gives them when you're 1-2 weeks away from the unit tests. I never read the book & only took notes during lecture & still got an A.
WHY,WHY,WHY is Alex Sample the only teacher at LMC who teaches Soc 15?? I dropped the class after a few weeks because I could not stand going in there for his 3 hour long lectures. He is nice enough although quite arrogant in my opinion. Will probably take this class at another JC. This man LOVES to hear himself speak!!
Worst teacher at LMC. Not Funny. Unclear teaching. Hard Tests. Lots of reading and memorizing. Good luck getting a passing grade.
Mr. Sample is an awesome teacher. His class isn't that tough. First, he doesn't assign homework, except for reading, that's it. If you can't handle reading and studying in college, then you may consider quitting.3 extra credit quizzes are offered, lowest test score dropped, and a detailed description by Professor outlining how to succeed in class.
Everything Prof Sample lectures on IS on the test, so take great notes. There is NO homework. Your only responsibility as a student is to read/study,which is expected in college. If you read/study,his tests/quizzes are very doable. His tests involve some critical thinking, which is a great skill to acquire.Commit a few hours a week to read/study ='s A!
The learning material is easy to understand, however his grading scoring is unreasonable and test exams are hard and quizzes are pointless you have to get 12 out of the 15 to get 5 points to bust up your grade. DON"T Take this Class, Summer Course is Too Fast Paste BTW.
Prof. Sample is somewhat funny, but it seems that his jokes/analogies get off topic easily. After about an hour, its hard to keep focus. You need to pay attention to his lectures and read the chapters to pass the quizzes/exams. he forces you to volunteer to answer a question before asking it, and degrades you if it isn't right. No open discussions
Sample's class isn't very hard if you take notes and do the reading outside of class. You can easily pass. He can be degrading towards his students though. He will ask questions but he will not accept different opinions he will shoot down your opinion if it contradicts his. But his class is pretty easy if you don't mind the rest.
Professor Sample is an older man with a great heart and sense of humor. He is knowledgeable on his subject material (he's been teaching here for the past 40 years since the school opened). The class is very easy if you simply read the textbook. The guidelines to pass the class are very clear and is fun! I took two of his classes and got above 100%
The class itself is easy but professor sample is pretty horrible. He's arrogant and rude and really doesn't know what he's talking about sometimes. It feels like a middle school class with the corny jokes and dumbed down curriculum.
Prof. Sample's class is easy if you know how to handle it. All of the tests and quizzes are based on the Lecture Notes. The good thing is that Sample writes all of the lecture notes on the board. However, Sample goes over the material very fast and often does not stop to explain. That's where you have to complete your notes with the book.
Sample's class is mostly him rambling on. He post cryptic notes on the board and expects you to be able to know what he is talking about. I really didn't find his class helpful. Yeah he is funny. If you want to pass the class read the book and know about all the theories. He will not help you with the class. You are on your own.
This was an easy class just show up and listen to the lectures. The tests and pop quizzes are based off the notes and book. I would reccomend taking this class since it was easy and there was minimal work.
Lectures are extremely boring and long. He gets off topic so much, the book he gives you is incomplete and you still get tested on the material. Overall boring experience i dreaded his class.
He has surprise quizzes.. Eventually he will end up a day behind on his lectures, what he writes on the board isnt what he talks about. All he talks in is analogies so you can't take notes from his verbal lecture. 34 of the class dropped before the final so you must read the incredibly insufficient book he made if you have any chance.
Mr. Sample is GREAT! I enjoyed 15 so much & it was an easy A so I ended up taking 16 just for fun & another EASY A :) He REALLY NOTICES & remembers who shows up & pays attention. He gave great examples that you can easily relate to where you live, people you know, things on the news, etc. My favorite part was NO HOMEWORK- only some weekly reading!
Mr. Sample taught me important life lessons. He provides a very straight forward road map for success and it is up to you to follow the map. There is NO homework, except reading & studying your book and notes. Not a single written assignment, nothing. If you can't handle reading & studying, drop out of college NOW, because you won't make it.
I liked it when he actually taught and shared some of his experiences but most of the time he would talk about random things. I didn't feel comfortable asking for help because he makes you feel like you should know it. No homework but reading is a must !
Sample is the best. He is hilarious and really gets you interested in sociology. His lectures that tell you exactly what will be on the tests. And gives extra credit pop quizzes that aren't hard either if you pay attention. He gives no homework, so all you have to do is study! JUST STUDY.
Ok, real talk-Clear grading criteria. You show up to class everyday cause there's NO MAKE UP pop quizzes (used as extra credit). Read the chapters before he lectures on them so you know what he's talking about. He'll write notes on board and comment on chapter readings. He DOES get off topic but that so we don't fall asleep. Black and white
Attend every class. Form good relations with other students in class so you guys can help each other pass. Take tons of notes and pay attention because he lectures a lot. He's pretty cool, always making you laugh, but he's a tough professor.
His lectures have lots of story that are related to subject matter. He doesn't baby students but prepare them for further education. He's clear about the course requirements. If you follow what he said, read the syllabus, come to class and basically act as a college student instead of whining and asking irrelevant questions you'll do fine!
I am so surprised that no one has reported this man yet. Professor Sample expects you to come to class and listen to him talk about football the whole period, read the long book, and pass the class based off of those two things. IMPOSSIBLE! The tests don't even cover what's in the book or in his lectures so you're in a fail-fail situation.
He wants everyone to pass but just doesnt make it accessible for everyone
Professor Sample is sarcastic and rude. The tests are hard and not clear at all, most of it wasn't even in the book. He doesn't explain anything in advance about what the tests or quizzes will be like, so you are just expected to be able to handle whatever he throws at you. I would not recommend taking Sample if you want to stay sane.
On day one, Sample will explain exactly what you need to do to get an A. He is very clear. If you follow his road map, you will do great. I showed up to class, took great notes, and then read the book. Aside from studying my notes and book, I had NO homework. Do a quizlet search to help you study. His lectures DO come straight from the book!
Definitely a talker, but as long as you takes notes and do the readings, the tests are a piece of cake. He did tell me that I WASN'T going to pass his class before the drop date (b/c how my grades were going & that grade sheet), but I passed the last test and Aced the final, my overall grade in the class was a B. Took a leap of faith.
Took Sample in the summer and got an A. Do I recommend Sample? Yes & No. Sample talks in metaphor/analogies to get concepts of sociology across, and to break things down easier. If you can learn through this teaching style, this class will be a piece of cake to you as in my case - if you cant, don't take it b/c you'll struggle and possibly fail.
his class is super confusing!!! you have to read the book for passing
One word RUDE!!! Wouldn't recommend taking him. Any one that he would consider "weird" he would make fun of. Made the class pretty boring.
Sad, Sample is the only one here at LMC teaches sociology 15 and 16. He is the worst teacher i have ever seen. Do no take him!
Sample is very sarcastic and randomly selects students to answer questions. He makes fun of students and tells long stories that are vaguely related to the course material. He also LOVES to use metaphors. Course is easy if you study. Almost all of your grade is based on quizzes and exams on the text. He's also the only Socio15 Prof. Good Luck.
This Instructor is rude, sarcastic and loves to pick on students. It's hard to ask a question because he will make sure you will feel "dumb" for asking it. Whatever he wrote on the board was not what he would lecture on, extremely confusing the first couple of weeks because he didn't explain that. I dreaded him every week! Good luck if u take him.
hes a good teacher just gotta read the book
Why is this the only teacher for sociology! Sample is not the best. He has a sarcastic demeanor and often will call you out to ridicule you. His lectures are long and he gets off topic a lot and end up taking about his personal life. The book is must. If you dont read the book you wont pass since his lectures are the more of his life stories. AVOID
Sample somehow makes sociology so much more complicated then it needs to be. The material isn't hard, but his tests are confusing. He's outdated and doesn't use current references. You need the book and he gives pop quizzes. 4 tests but he drops 1.
All of students don't like Sample, but honestly he is one of the best professors I'v ever had. It's a lot work. Buy the book, read the chapters, and read the quiz reviews at the end of the chapters, and you'll get A's on all the quizes! He's really funny. The problem is some people can't take his sense of humor. Don't miss his classes! You'll fail.
Halfway into the semester, I realized that the key to this class was to strictly listen to the lectures because they get so off topic that you won't remember how it pertains to the text. If you want to pass, read the book, but enjoy the Sample show. Sense of humor required because he has no filter!
I felt this professor rambled way too much. A great deal of his lecture was irrelevant, as well as confusing. Through all of my education over the years I believe this "professor" is the worst I have ever dealt with. Lastly, the fact that he has his own book was ridiculous. 160 units and my B.A., this was the only instructor I wouldn't recommend.
Before taking the class Sample's reputation on campus was poor. THIS WAS SO WRONG! Sample's lectures are very easy to sit through and as long as you listen and participate there's no real need to read. The questions on exams come from lecture! The quiz questions are the quizzes at the back of each chapter! Awesome teacher
Professor Sample is not a good professor. I'm currently in his sociology class and his lectures are completely off topic. He spends the entire class talking about personal stories or focusing on picking on kids for the sake of "hilarity;" however, while some students- unlike myself- find this enjoyable, I'm paying him to teach, not to joke.
very confusing spends most of class telling stories that are irrelevant to the class.
I took the monday night 7-9:50, you basically sit there and pay attention to his lectures and examples. I recommend writing down the vocabulary words he talks about in class because they will be on a test. He gives random quizzes, which are extra credit. There is a written exam, and he provides a study guide. Very funny class
I took this professor twice the first time I got a D the next I received an A. This professor has a great personality but as a student I did not learn from his methods. Take the notes. Take the quizzes in the back of the book and make those to flashcards. Study the notes then look for specifics in the book! Look up extra examples of methods.
Coolest man you'll meet. Spends class giving lectures and stories to demonstrate social concepts rather than repeating the science behind it. Classwork is light as most time is spent taking notes and preparing for next test or quiz. As long as notes are taken and you pay attention, an A is easily possible.
He was very nice, but was off topic most of the time. He would try to make you understands in ways he understands, but it is not always clear to the class. I had to take this as a requirement course, but did not enjoy it. He is a good guy, but he was not the professor for me.
Instructor needs to improve lectures and teach more clearly. He often leaves his students confused and unclear of what they just learned.
HE TALKS IN CLASS AND DOESNT TEACH ANYTHING THEN WHEN ITS TIME TO TAKE A TEST ITS HARD FOR THE STUDENTS TO PASS
Graduated w/ honors this Spring after completing 90+ units/3 degrees; I am a serious student & have taken MANY professors at LMC. He is by far the worst. He's rude to his students, constantly picking on them. Test Q's are off the wall ridiculous & your whole grade is based on exams. Do yourself a favor and take Socio-120 at DVC instead w/ Hughes.

I was so lost taking this course. He gets so off topic when lecturing it makes you forget what the heck your taking , like is this even sociology? Don't expect to have topics on the tests to be discussed in lectures because they won't. All I can say is read read read! Read the chapters and if you can take sociology at dvc do it! Save yourself
Class was just lecture. He told stories and went on tangents to explain concepts. Not for me, but it did make concepts memorable. Just show up, take the notes, and read the book and you will be fine. He's willing to give extra help. He gives pop quizzes that are extra credit. I studied and did just fine.
I am an honors student, attended every class and read the book. Samples lectures are REALLY confusing , a lot of students in class were confused. He talks about irrelevant topics. Book topics not on tests. His tests are confusing. Midterm given before drop date, A or F possible only, but dont know grade until after drop date. Very stressful class.
Prof. Sample is a no nonsense instructor. If you want to chat/play with your phone during class, don't take his class, he'll call you out. Showing up late/leaving early isn't a good idea either. Take the notes, he writes them on the board. He's very knowledgable, willing to answer questions, many tests/quizzes, few written assignments.
Everyone is talking about how hard Sample is but he really wasn't. he does ramble A LOT and makes fun of people though, he is just an overbearing jokester that you have to laugh with because he's the professor. The material however is literally just highschool psych. Read the book and just smile if he starts talking to you so he likes you LOL.
I personally think Sample is a great teacher but this class is going to require a lot of self discipline to do the reading, attend the long lectures, and do study. If you go to class, pay attention and write notes then turn those into flash cards you will pass with an easy A. gives 4 extra credit quizzes, no homework, and just 4 exams.
This class made no type of sense. Class is pure lecture but none of it is on the tests, nor does it even make sense. Your only hope for this class is reading the textbook cover to cover. He doesnt put any scores online and often takes forever to grade. Save yourself dont take this class.
This class was by far the hardest class I've taken at LMC. Although he's a cool guy, he gets off topic a lot which is distracting. His tests are also very difficult because you have no guidance besides your notes & the book & even then a lot of what is on the tests is based off things he's said during LECTURE, take notes on that!
Mr. Sample is a hard professor. I had him for two classes a few years back. Now that I am at a University I am so thankful that I listened to his advise about studying for tests and being prepared. His class was vital to my college experience because I listened to his advise.
He tends to go on tangents too much, especially if the discussion is going great. There are pop quizzes (count as +5 extra credit toward test), and they are all or nothing. You have to get 12/15 for the quiz to count. There are no other papers, projects, or worksheets, so everything banks on the exams (will drop lowest score).
one of the things I really appreciated was that his grading was straightforward. at first his method of teaching was confusing but after a couple of classes it became very helpful for remembering material as he would use a lot of analogies. he assigns pop quizzes but as long as read they are very easy. his tests were also clear and not that hard:)
Day one, Sample explicitly maps out keys to success in his class, most of which stress READING the book. His lectures are both thoughtful & informative. There are ZERO papers to write and no other homework assignments; all you have to do it READ and take notes. Tests are straightforward and basic. Extra credit offered. EFFORT will take you far!
Best instructor ever!!!!
I loved this class but there is a lot of reading and note taking and making flashcards but he opened up my mind more than any other class . It was interesting and NOT boring he was very playful but does not like to be contridicted. I got a C but that's because I didn't study enough. BIG HINT READ THE WHOLE BOOK BEFORE CLASS STARTS.
The grade I got was a B+ but a hard one to get. Make sure to really read the textbook because those extra credit points do so much to your grade. Hes such a funny guy and make sure to listen to the examples he says during lectures, they show up on tests. No matter how hard I studied I could never get an A on those tests but extra credit helps
I was very worried when I went into Sample's class after reading all the bad reviews about him. However, I got all A's on his tests. There was no homework. His teaching style involves using a lot of metaphors and anecdotes rather than textbook definitions. If you can't learn that way, don't take it. Tips: READ the textbook and make flashcards.
Sample's teaching style was a difficult one for me to learn from. He uses mostly metaphors, which isn't for me. This class is constructed of lectures, quizzes and tests. So, if you are not a good test taker, I would not recommend this class for you.
Sample makes Sociology more difficult than it has to be. His metaphors don't make sense. Many students had a hard time understanding him. He is mostly the one who teaches this, forced to take it with him. Makes fun of those who don't do well on tests in front of class. If you have diff with tests or quizzes, stay away. Avoided for soc16 .
He calls it the Sample show. That is what it is. He basically does a repeat to of the exact same lecture for every class. He gives three tests. You don't want to miss class bc that is when he will do one of three pop quizzes which is extra credit but you will need those. He is rude and won't give different explanations then what is in his show.
He's really one of the smartest people I've ever met. he knows what he's talking about. A lot of students may not like him because he literally will tell you how it is with no apologies. He's done it to me. So I know, but I know that he's right so whatever. He's really an amazing teacher and he showed me my greater potential as a student
Honestly, this was by far one of the most mixed up class that I took. I dropped it after a few months because he never made sense on what he was saying. He expects you to read every chapter before class and make note cards on questions that you have to come up with. His lectures have no correlation to what was in the text.
Take the class if you're okay w/ constant reviewing & reading but if you're not the type to do that then don't take the class. Attendance is pretty mandatory since he mentions certain examples that would be on the test & pop quizzes.
i took socio 15 & 16. these classes are easy as long as you show up, take notes, & read the book. if you only show up occasionally & don't read the book you won't pass. very clear grading rubric, he drops your worst exam, & gives 4 extra credit quizzes. no homework, just read (textbook necessary!!) he's got a big personality & jokes around a lot
If you want to be entertained for a few hours take this class he is very funny, but teaching wise, he isn't great. You won't get much out of his lectures, so get ready to really read the textbook. There are little to no assignments, so the tests and exams make up your grade. Not really, my learning style.
Worst professor ever. I didn't learn anything in his class. His lectures are the same and repetitive and all he does is talk about sports. I was really excited to take Socio 015 and was really disappointed. Take Marco Godinez's class for Socio 015, trust me!!!
He deserves to be on a comedy show not on a college campus.... he makes irrelevant comparisons and will put you on the spot! Dont waste your time
He treats class more like a comedy club. I didnt learn anything but terrible jokes and wasted my money on his 85$ book. He makes you buy the book he helped create and its really not worth that kind of money for a 100 page paper back book. Save your time because he only has like 5 assignments in the class that will either make or break your grade.
I took his class over the summer, and I actually really enjoyed it. Hes funny, and you learn a lot. You do have to work for your grade by reading the book and studying using flash cards, But theres no homework at all so its doable. Its very possible to finish with an A if you just study.
This class offers up to 20 points extra credit which can save your grade. 4 exams lowest score is dropped. No homework. Just study the terms and understand the terms and you will pass. Grade is based on points not percentage. Hes really funny but take good notes in class so you know what to study . Easy A
I wouldnt take his class ever again he went off topic a lot and his class was super boring wouldnt recommend
You must show up to class because he will give quizzes whenever HE wants. His lectures sometimes go into tangents and you forget what you are learning. His tests/quizzes are kind of confusing and sometimes don't relate to the lecture notes. There's one "essay" that he grades pretty difficult. Overall he's an okay teacher.
Just awful. I was taking his class when COVID-19 happened and his class got even more confusing online. He doesn't know how to use basic technology. He'll take forever to reply to e-mails and he wouldn't cut us any slack even though we're in the middle of a pandemic. But it's totally okay for him to ghost us and give us no help at all.
I was really hesitant to take his class because of the negative reviews but it was perfectly fine! He's an okay professor but the topic was super interesting so I stayed engaged. If you're worried about passing like I was, I just made flashcards for every test and passed with a 95%! His test and quizzes are actually pretty easy!
Took this class back in Fall of 2019 before corona hit. This professor is an absolute tool. Lectures are meaningless, you are better off reading the book then listening to his horrible lectures. Has pop up quizzes so it's a dice roll on when to actually show up. Tests and quizzes are easy if you read the book. Skipped most of his classes.
I took this class in the spring 2020 right as covid hit. All of his classes consisted of him taking about football for an hour and a half. Such a joke ! his tests are hard and no study guide is provided. the second we switch to online learning he went completely MIA. provided no opportunities to raise grade and was not compassionate at all !
Prof. Sample has not been teaching at all, he offers optional zoom meetings, but he is lazy to actually teach the class. I felt like I did not learn anything about Sociology. Sociology is an important class and I wasted my book and money to take his class. He offered good lecture notes and all that but he did not teach. I relied on the lecture note
does not teach the class. he has optional zoom meetings but all we have to do is tests and quizzes but they make no sense. wasted money on the book and it was useless. now I have to take this class again because I failed technically.
Prof isnt so bad. He doesnt give any modules or any type of work. All you have to do is go over notes & read the book. Then take tests & extra credit quizzes. Its a light class. I actually liked his class because I had heavy classes so it was a beneficial class. As long as you read the book & notes youll def pass.
Honestly, its a hit or miss with this Professor. Take Professor Sample if you want something extremely light weighted, but beware, your grade is determined by four exams (extra credit quizzes are included as well). No homework, no mandatory meetings. Makeups are not allowed no matter what. I did good, but it was a bit stressful.
doesnt teach at all, you're literally teaching yourself. makes you buy a 100$ book. its all just reading. most boring and worst class I've ever taken at LMC. you read a couple chapters, take the test and you do that 4 times and thats it. thats all you're graded on. avoid taking this professor. no other assignments besides exams...
worst professor I've ever taken DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. doesnt teach at all. lazy
doesnt care about his students succeeding
What can I say about this teacher? You might as well drop this class ASAP! Because my first year with this class was awful. All his lectures are off-topic and make football references, like are you going to be a teacher or trying to be a coach? Don't even waste your time, to be honest. Laziest teacher I've ever met in my 21 years of living.
Only graded by quizzes and never gives any assignments, only textbook readings. Doesn't respond quickly when help is needed. I had missed a quiz because of a family emergency and it took him days to respond to say he doesn't do make ups. Class is easy if you are very good note taker but one wrong score and your entire grade is ruined.
Honestly, hes all about quizzes & test. Hes lazy on giving work. I think it was a easy class, I couldve gotten an A if I bought the book but I just think its a light class if you have heavy classes. Hes not bad, I havent communicated w. Him so idk if hes rude but all I know is he barely gives work. Just quizzes & tests which on notes & book.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!! if u need to take sociology take it at a different college like DVC, or take the other sociology professors such as Marco or Lynne. He doesnt care what emergency or situation you had, he will not extend the quizzes for even an extra hour or two
100$ textbook that he claims he wrote but he didnt, all he did was add questions in between each chapter. look for the book online if you have to get it. I wasted my money for no reason
Professor Sample obviously doesn't care for his students or the subject. He wasn't available for Zoom meetings and didn't give lectures, just told us to read the book and take the exams. Took several days to get a response from him and even then his response was less than 5 words each time.
Take this class if youre the type to not study or do any work. Sample doesnt give out lectures or any homework. Your grade is based on exams. Thats all he gives. This class was easy for me and I took it with other science classes and it was doable. Its a light class but you will not learn anything. Uncaring and lazy professor.
Took as a summer class in 2021. Easy.
This professor wasn't very clear with what to study or do to prepare for tests, there are no assignments other than chapter quizzes and unit test. He gave a few pages of notes and some articles. All of the quizzes are extra credit (but basically mandatory if you want a good grade) and your lowest unit test score is dropped for final grades.
its an easy class. its very straightforward no hw. you have quizzes with the opportunity of extra credit and 4 exams and 1 writing exam. you don't really need to read the textbook if you do it's available online so you don't have to buy it.
I took this online class to fulfill my degree, I was a late add that he graciously allowed me to join. The homework was terrible. Sample reached out once to me to tell me that I should be worried about my grades & then gave no insight, feedback/help to change that. Huge lack of communication between students & no desire to help. Completely absent.
Takes forever to respond. Never directly answers questions or concerns, Not a great teacher if you're looking to try his sociology class.
Never even had a conversation with this guy once. There's no assignments, lectures, homework, nothing. He tells you to buy a textbook and then essentially disappears through the entire semester with little to no instruction whatsoever. Easy A for folk who want to put only an hour of studying every month though.
Don't take this class if you want to learn, however, if you just need the credit and don't care about sociology... take this class and cheat. The only things that are graded are the 4 unit tests (lowest score dropped), 4 extra credit quizzes, and the final. If you can operate Chat GPT, you can pass this class with an A.
I never once went to the office hour; he basically doesn't teach you; you have to learn on your own; if you wanna enjoy the class, take someone else's class. If you just want to pass you can pass easily with cheating and have an A. He gives out extra credit, and there is NO extra homework or nothing, just tests and extra credit. he
Professor Sample's class is easy if you just want the credit - use ChatGPT and Unstuck AI for the quizzes and exams. Minimal engagement required, but you won't learn much. Avoid if you actually want to study sociology.
Seemed pretty straightforward, you just need to be familiar with the material for the quizzes and such. I worked 35+ hours while being a full time student and managed to pass with an A.
