BEST PROFESSOR EVER. ALWAYS WILLING TO HELP. HE IS VERY FUNNY AND HIS STYLE OF TEACHING FACILITATES LEARNING. HE IS A VERY EFFECTIVE TEACHER. TAKE HIS CLASSES.
I have 2 words for him Excellent Professor!!! Take his classes if you really want to learn intermediate accounting....
He's a very good professor, probably one of the best in Rutgers. He's a little judgmental though, he only likes the smarter students which is fine with me.
Very good professor. Very intelligent, and has much to offer to students. Encourages students in many ways to to excel. However, his method of grading can be a little unfair.
Excellent Professor! but he makes sure that the course actually is writing intensive.
He is one interesting Italian...THE BEST professor in rutgers
Really Good Prof. Will pass his calss if you attend all the extra credit meetings and follow his directions.
Extremely difficult class. Do not take more than 15 credits, if you're taking this class. Workload is equal to two 3 credit classes. Lots of work and memorizing the 25 questions for the exams is a NIGHTMARE! But you WILL learn in his class. Nicest guy and will do everything to help you out.
good teacher
he is a very interesting professor. he is one the best! he taught me soo much about accounting! your are so awesome! =]
hard professor but very gud..he makes sure u work hard.... jus do all brief exercises & exercises (cuz his test problems are much similar to the book exercises)& u will defenitely get good grades in the problem parts of the exams...
Deserves an award for Outstanding prof. He goes out of his way for you to succeed and find a job! All the x-tra credit, national competitions, essays, labs, SI sessions, office hours, are for our benefit. Down to earth. Tough exams. And like he says "do you want a degree or an educcation?"
Oh my God..This guy is cracy;he thinks its only his class everyone is taking for the semester. If you want a hard time; presentation, case study crap you wont need in the real world(i know cos am working) take him, but if you want to attract good employers (BIG 4) with your GPA DONT TAKE HIM.
Extremely difficult prof. Lot of work load. Terribly class but a dedicated prof. who loves what he does. If you want to learn a lot, take him. But if you want a good G.P.A avoid him like a plaque. If you are taking 12 credits or more pls pls don't take his class. Good luck!
GREAT TEACHER!! Makes you learn a lot. He's helpful, understanding, and funny. He does whatever he can to make you pass. If you want an easy class this isn't the class for you. If you want to learn, pass the CPA exam, and get some connections HE IS DEFINITELY THE RIGHT PERSON TO TAKE!
Great professor, his class takes a lot of time but in the end you will have learned more than if you had taken the easy way out. He's very aware of his students, like he's got eyes in the back of his head. He gives a lot of extra credit that takes up a lot of time so don't take more than 12 credits
Great Great Professor:) Tough course. Be prepared. You will learn a lot!
He is a great teacher and person....but his class is extremely hard you have to be really committed!! His exam are soo hard me made 3 girls i know cry...but almost me tooo.. so beware and remember big 4 looks at gpa and this class won't help that.
Yea i know he's all great and knowing but i want a class to be easy to get by since in the real world all this wont matter too much. They retrain and specialize you in a particular field and besides will you really remember all this for CPA exam when that time comes??! NO. Take Stubbs, much more laid back and plenty of chances of extra credit. SUX
extremely hard. has an outstanding memory, so u won't be able to ask somebody to sign u in. u don't have to kill yourself over the homework, as all answers are posted, so i justcopied it in advance, so i didn't have to think about it during semester. i opened the textbook once, i just studdied the suppl.notes for 3 days, 10 hours a day and i got A.
Work your ass off. He's probably one of the best teacher in the RBS. It's a tough class, but he's giving you a lot to improve. Extremely smart and helpful. He's really there for your benefit. And he's a nice, down to earth guy to talk to. I'd definitely buy him a drink when I'm finished with him. 'Cause you'll need one, too.
He is an EXCELLENT professor! Yea the class is tough, but he goes out of his way to make sure you understand the material. He gives tons of extra credit. There are SI sessions, acct lab to review homework & tutoring. He's always in his office ready to help. If your not dedicated than hes not for U!
This prof gets a bad rap for having a hard class. He is one of the best prof's at the school. Really puts the time in for his students. We need more teachers like him !! Take the class, its absolutely worth it !!
this is the best professor i have encountered so far in my experience at rutgers. He is an outstanding person and there's just no way to describe how well he teaches. If every prof would be like that, college would be worth soo much more. the only thinh I regret is not taking him for my prior acct courses
Took him over the summer and hes a good professor but he goes too fast and also theres a lot of material. Exams were multiple choice but they were very tricky. Overall hes a good professor but its a very tough class!!
This is the BEST professor I have ever had....He is reallllllllly hard ...If you are not willing to put enough time for this class do not take it....I truly love the way he teaches....excellent professorrrr....Very HELPFUL....
REALLY GOOD PROFESSOR.. he's tough but if u actually study and pay attention a B+ is easy. He's tough and pushes you but he encourages you to learn in the same way.. offers extra credit
Great Professor. I agree that the class is really hard; his way of teaching combined with the material. He explains everything though. Read the topics before you go to class cuz that really helps. Just do everything he says and you'll be fine. He gives a lot of extra credit which is also helpful to the students. You'll definitely learn a lot!
Definately the best teacher I've had since my 7th grade math teacher. If you dont make this class the emphasis of your studies, you will probably fail
REALLY REALLY GOOD PROFESSOR. He really wants the best for you and really knows what he's teaching and tries his best to help you out. He is tough, but in an encouraging, helpful way. Also funny, energetic and enthusiastic. Gives a lot of extra credit and flexibility, but you have to go to class to understand the material and attendance counts
He is a really good professor. If you put in time and effort you will do great on the exam. You will learn a lot in this class. Be prepared!
His class isn't as hard as people make it out to be. It's just like any other class. You have to read before class and study at least 4 weeks before the exam. Procastination does not work in his class. Easy A if you do the work. F if you wait till the last minute to study.
He's a great professor & really knows his stuff. The only thing that bothers some people is that he gives a lot of "nice 2 know" info. This info is good 2 keep up with current news but it can b a lil too much. The test are DEPARTMENTAL so it does not matter who you take this class with. All the test are hard and open ended. Gives a lot extra credit
There are 2 types of information: Need to know versus nice to know. He gives alot of nice to know info. Tough but good professor!
Good Luck for those who will take this class in the summer 2008. Just go to church and pray for that haha
Well, well he loves accouting and he's obsessed with it. So good luck to all of you. He kind of reminds me this guy who has no life but his job. I mean he always says that he was going to school full-tima and that he worked full-time. So you would think that he understand that it's hard for us students but NO.
This is what I have to say. He not only ruined my spring break by giving us a test right after it but he also ruined my Easter. I think he doesn't celebrate any holidays because during the fall semester he gave us an exam right after Thanksgiving break. He says that it is not done intentionaly, but I am pretty sure that it is. Good Luck.
GOOD LUCK! He is prob the hardest Accounting prof you will ever have but you will learn a great deal that will help you down the road. He has no remorse with failing you if you dont do good even if you study and show effort. The way he looks at it is if you aint cut out for Accounting then major in marketing. So, study and pray!
I did good but I studied a lot. He knows the material inside out but he doesn't help much. you have to know whats in the book inside out before u go to class. Happy Summer to those who are taking him now! hahahaha
Someone described to me what it was like to pledge for a frat, and I think the statement will hold true for this class. "Your glad you did it, but you never want to do it again."
What is the difference between Sannella and Stubbs? Let me put it this way: would you rather drink poison or jump off a cliff?
Took him for both Int1&2. 1 was easy. ppl say its hard because they cant write well. 2 I messed up because the departmentalization meant that Disalvo and Stubbs were given input. They reduced the quality of the essay questions making them harder to understand, and by proxy harder to answer. Easy prof if you study. Remember, Acctg is a state of mind
This man makes you study the material so well, which is very helpful and he demands a lot from you.I took him in the summer,we did a lot of work, exams every week, but in the end it paid off bcuz i learnt a great deal in the course. If you want to learn and not only pass, then take him,but if you only want to pass, then take someone else.He is great.
He's awesome, helpful, and knows how to teach. i took him over the summer, theres was alot of hw, 5 quizzes and the final. But it paid off cuz i left actually learning something. TAKE HIM!
i've never studied so much until i took this class. I probably studied a total of 80 hours and got a B on the first test. MEMORIZE HIS BOOK, do his homework, go to all of the extra tutoring available. You have to dedicate alot of time. So if you have a job=quit, got kids?=adopt them, got other hard classes=drop them. SANNELLA IS THE MAN!
Attendance is mandatory (he memorizes everyones face/name within a few days, even if you sit in the back). Anyone that gives him a bad rating is either 1. an idiot, 2. lazy and/or has bad study habit, 3. doesn't have the gift that accountant's, such as myself, possess...
This man is the embodiment of accounting. He's tough and the person that likened him to accounting boot camp is pretty dead on.
Im going to be frank, IF YOU CANT GET A "C" IN HIS CLASS GET THE HELL OUT OF ACCOUNTING. Why? You will never make it in the "accounting world" if you can't pass this class. The bottom line, accountants get paid relatively good money and no employer is going to pay you if you cant understand intermediate accounting concepts.
The SI tutor got fired, I thought she was horrible and condesending to all the students. However, Sannella is the last hope for the undergraduate accounting program at Rutgers University-Newark.
I had Sannella last year, but I did not rank him so I could take other professors and make the decision based on what is relative. In the end, if Dan Polman, Dept Chair, does not hire more people like Sannella RBS is doomed. When Sannella retires and if no can replace his caliber, I believe students will leave RBS due to incompetent professors.
Tom's a cool dude.
There seems to be a puzzling paradox with some of my peers. That is, you are a student in order to learn a subject, but when you meet a professor that actually pushes you to do so you complain. The point, if you dont want to learn and are just looking for an easy "A" this is not the class for you.
I LOVE PROFESSOR SANNELLA!
He is the smartest man I know. He needs to come my job and replace the current CFO there. I gaurantee Professor Sannella will be able to fix the mess that he created.
Great professor. I learned a lot in his class and he is always willing to help with school work or for career advice. He gives tons of extra credit which can almost boost your grade up by a whole grade. A tip: study his notes, do the illustrations in his notes, and you will get an A.
This professor is good but you need a lot of time to do well in his class. My advice to new students is as jobs become scarce the Accounting world has been laced with so much racism and politics. Its especially worse for minority students especially Blacks coupled with the long hours and the pressure to perform.Be ready for to deal with it.
i dont know what the previous two comments are blabbing about. Anywho Professor Sannella is a great professor. It's true he does have his favorites but they're the students doing the best in his class with the most potential. Make sure ur not taking hard classes when your taking Intermediate Acctg I&II and devote alot of time to studying.
Great Professor, extremely knowledgeable, extremely supportive and grades fairly. Coaches students to win! If you want to become an accountant, take Professor Sannella's classes and be ready to work.
He is the embodiment of what Accounting is in the real world especially if you plan to go into public accounting. The difficulties you will encounter in Sannella's class is twice what you will experience in the real world, that is The pressure to perform, long hours to study, sometimes unfairly graded and racism for minorities.
professor sannella is the best professor i've ever had. he is really nice and really wants the student to learn. very helpful during his office hours. his quizzes are tricky and hard so you just have to study and read everything ahead of time.
I could not figure this guy out for two weeks, then I realized is that all you have to do is read the supplement 3-4 times, know all details, MEMORIZE examples, and DO THE HW PROPERLY. Thats the way to get an A in his class. If you read ahead, class is like recitation and his class notes are real sharp. Teaches both FASB and IFRS,perfect forCPAprep
he is hard. he knows his stuff but it is tough to pass his class with an A or even a B. his exams are tricky especially finals. took him in summer session, ppl said he will be easier. lies! just as hard in the spring. quit ur job ahead and cancel all your plans because u need all the time you can.
I don't understand why people complain so much here.He is the best.if you really work hard and learn from his class.later on you will find out that it helps you in every way that you can imagin:ABC class, your acctg career.work hard, you will be fine and you will never regret taking class with him.read before class you will learn a lot
If Accounting was the Religion, than he was definitely the God of Accounting religion?.
Everyone that took him over the summer and is complaining about how difficult the class is makes you a retard
Great Professor!! really challenges your mind. I recommend him if you really want to learn Accounting and not just get by with an easy A. You have to WORK for it. Glad I took him!
Very tough grader, doesn't care about students' GPAs
Intelligent professor who knows his stuff. Helpfulness varies depends on how much he likes you(ex: telling people what's on the exam.) Absolutely useless when it comes to administration related matter. Has little appreciation for students who actually attempts to help him better the class.
I had Prof Sannella for intermediate I and II. He teaching methods and exams are designed in a way that you actually have to learn and understand the material, which is useful when it comes time to taking the CPA. Because of this , the class is not easy. He is very helpful when it comes office hours and exam reviews if you are proactive.
Took him for financial accounting. Boring class but can get interesting at times. Always holds office hours for extra help and curves exams. Exams are hard, so don't expect an easy A. HW, participation, extra credit, and quizzes are easy. Great helpfulness in all levels. Recommended if interested/majoring in Accounting.
Knows everything about accounting. 3 exams, class average was 69 ;) but he curves. I received an A for all exams and did extra credit. I did all the homework until I had 95% correct on each, which is greatest help. You have to be awake during class and really under the concepts behind everything.
Exams are very hard. class is boring, clicker grade is there
He knows accounting well. However, he should not be teaching in the classroom. Grades very unfairly. Exams are impossible to pass.He has his pet students.HW's takes hours! Take acct 1 and 2 with another professor! I promise if you take him your GPA will fall! I did well in all classes until his, ruined my GPA! He is all about profits!
Prof Sannella moves quickly from one chapter to the next. He knows more about Accounting than anybody, which is prob the problem. Because of this he expects us to pick it up right away, which is nearly impossible. They say that those that can't "do", "teach" so he must have been an amazing accountant, because he's certainly not much of a teacher
If u value your GPA take Acctg w anyone else but him. If your a masochist then go ahead. U will have time for nothing & probably change majors. Smiles in your face but then shoves it up your ass dry. You've been warned.
Professor Sannella knows his stuff. His exams are tough and students generally complain but the material isn't easy. The weekly homework takes forever but if you truly make an effort it isn't too hard to get a decent grade (B or better) especially with the grading curve he provides.
Not an easy A. Will learn a lot. As helpful as can be. Seems like a good person. Inspires respect for himself. The grading is the most fair. Very hard to get an A, requires exceptional effort. Seems like he asks of himself way more than he asks of students. As to the exam prep, theory - his book is enough, problems - HAVE to practice pros in textbook.
Great professor! Makes financial accounting seem simple. Just pay attention during class and study the powerpoints. He does have clicker questions but he only counts a certain percentage of it. He really helps students out and he is very understanding.
He is an extremely tough grader, maybe borderline unfairly tough. He expects you to absolutely master intermediate accounting, which is also great because he is a great teacher and always makes time for his students. If you want to master this type of material, this is the class for you. Not for the faint of heart but work hard and you will succeed
This is a man who genuinely, sincerely wants each and every one of his students to not just pass, but to succeed with flying colors. Not a single bad thing to say about the man. Amazing professor. Had to work hard for my grade but if you're willing to put in time and effort he is willing to reciprocate it to help you and even go many extra miles.
Tough, but cares about the success of his students. Responds to emails in seconds. Accommodating to your schedule with enough notice. Base your studies on his textbook and HW as he has his specific ways of presenting problems, but the answer key to the textbook is provided for extra practice. If you're going to take the CPA FAR, take him for Int.
Professor Sannella is a great professor and his textbook is very good. However, his tests are hard, so do his homework assignments repeatedly and go over the examples that are in his book. After taking Sannella, you will know intermediate accounting very well. Also, his homework is very difficult and lengthy, so make time for the homework.
Knows how to teach accounting well and has fair exams. Does have clicker questions. Gives extra credit at the end.
Homework is very detailed and time consuming. Grades hw very strictly. Exams are extremely difficult.
He is pretty hard but not impossible to pass . He gives online quizzes and hw weekly. I spend like 55hrs throughout the semester on the hw and quizzes , it takes time. I got like Cs on my midterms and finals but I still end up with a B because of my hw, quizess, extra credit and clicker scores average which where in its 80s.
Professor Sannella is a great professor. He's very experienced and his lectures are very clear and precise. If you slack off and wait till the last minute to study or do homework you won't do well. Exams are tricky so make sure you truly understand the material
Okay he comes off as very nice but then screws you in the end. His lectures are really long and pretty much go through him going through his own notes. His homework is so time consuming and ends up being nothing like the simple examples from the textbooks. He rarely curves even when the exam score averages are low. All in all, I would avoid!!
Great professor. The key to passing easily is to read through his powerpoints BEFORE class. I walked out the first day wanting to cry but that was the issue. Really easy when you get what he's talking about. Exams are easy if you study. Go to the review before the exam. Goes more off his powerpoints than the book. Do not need the book to pass.
He is the nicest professor I have ever seen. He is always there for you. I promise you that if you take his class and study you will literally know Financial Accounting really well. Read his notes before class. If you pay attention in class and do his homework and quizzes without cheating, his class is an easy A. Last minute students, don't take!
He's really helpful if you ask him for help. His tests are really hard. Have to study a lot!
He is the best professor!!! take him. If you do all of your homework and study from the book you will pass the class.
Mr. Sannella is one of the best professors here at Rutgers, very approachable and very friendly. He expects a lot from his students and is willing to help them in every step of the way. His class is very difficult if you do not study and to supplement his lectures provides weekly homework and quizzes. I wish I studied harder but I got a solid B.
Very nice person and very knowledgeable on the subject but not a great professor. Any attempt to explain concepts leads to lengthy theoretical backgrounds of the subject that leave you more confused than ever. Insane amounts of homework that is graded very tough. 3 exams per semester. Some people know but cant teach he is one of those people
Dr. Sannella is a terrible professor. I went to his office hours every week, and he suggested that I give up because he didn't think I could handle the material. Not only did he discourage me, he made me doubt myself and my abilities. Worst educator I have ever had.
I had him for Accounting Principles. Good guy who knows what he's talking about, but he also expects a lot out of you. Exams are blue book and you have to know how to debit and credit everything in the right order. Homework was a bit tricky, but doable with friends. Extra credit really saved me and my GPA. You have to work hard for this grade.
Great professor, super caring. Used an amazing mobile app in his class to gather feedback from students. Loved.
I failed the class but I know when to give credit when credit is due. Professor Sannella is probably the best professor I had for Accounting. His lectures are very detailed. The exams are what messed me up. I didn't study as much as I did and I was not prepared. Homeworks are long too. Do not be afraid to take him but don't make the mistake I did.
Professor Sannella has to be the most caring professor at RBS! The test and subject covered in the class was hard but he did everything he can to make sure his students succeeded. He made review video online which were VERY helpful and used an app where you can ask questions which he answered quickly. AMAZING PROFESSOR.
Amazing professor, goes over everything and makes sure everyone understands before continuing. If you need any accommodations he'll make the time. Does Sunday review livestreams and posts them on blackboard for everyone to see. Very helpful professor.
The best accounting professor. He is great lecturer....I definitely recommend taking any class that he teaches !!!!!!
Took his online accounting course. Incredibly hard work. No curve. But accessible outside of class and is understanding about exam conflicts.
He is undoubtedly one of the best and genuinely inspirational professors. He has an excellent understanding of the subject matter. This class involves a lot of homework and considering I didn't have a background in accounting, it required quite an effort on my part. However, Professor is extremely approachable and explains the concepts pretty well.
I took Prof. Sannella for Accounting for Managers (Master's level class). He is very responsive, caring, knowledgeable, and designs the class so that you are well equipped to pass the course. I took the online format with him. . I'm already enrolled next semester for his Intermediate Acct. I class. The only reason why I didnt get an A is COVID.
Professor Sannella is a great professor to take any accounting class with. He truly wants all his students to do well and gives so many chances for that to happen. He's quick to reply to emails and is readily available to meet with you outside class to explain anything. Textbook was less important than his lectures and notes.
When I had him some years back, his class was extremely difficult, and many students failed, ended up with C's and D's, or dropped the course. He had his favorites, and those students received more academic attention and were placed with larger accounting firms. Until he was reported, and now it looks like, over the years, he changed his approach.
Professor is approachable and fair in grading. Does a great job teaching the material in class. The exams are very fair if you study. Would recommend taking a class with Professor Sannella.
