Professor Smith makes history interesting. He is easy to approach and easy to get along with. He also passes out outlines that help you follow along with his lectures. There are 3 tests and each count for 30% of your final grade and about 7 quizzes that are 10% of final grade. Compared to the other prof. on campus he is the BEST one.
Alex Smith is an amazing teacher! He is such a good teacher and a good person. He jokes around and makes History interesting and easy to understand for everyone! His quizzes are so easy, if you don't do good on them then you didn't study because he tells you exactly what to know. I def. recommend him as a teacher! :)
*Great* instructor. His enthusiasm and knowledge of history are fantastic. Also, he doesn't throw a lot of dates and boring facts at you. He provides lots of trivia and interesting side stories about the people and events we study. The books we had to read in class were also very interesting. Definitely recommend this instructor.
Very good teacher. -NOT boring. A little corny.
I love this guy he's so great!! Took him for both 1301 and 1302! He's fun, funny, and actually makes the class interesting. Extremely intelligent in his field. Very easy going. Just remember his tests are from the notes only, so take good notes. The most I actually learned in any history class, not just memorized!! TAKE HIS CLASS!
this is prob. one of the best history teachers at Cy-Fair, he makes the material fun and easy and the only way you could possibly fail is class is if you dont take notes...also really understanding and makes little jokes throughout his lectures to keep you awake....def. recommended
Great teacher!! His lectures are funny. His test are a little difficult, but if you study you will pass. Easy A
I see everybody liked him... yes he's nice and says some interesting things every once in a while... i had him his 2nd semester as a new teacher... his tests are very hard... i did study with notecards and reading the book... i pulled a D... took it with another teacher made an A... dunno what that's about... same material...
Great Teacher!! i love his teaching style, his quizzes are straight from the vocab bolded words in the book which you can look it up online and really dont need the book, theres no need to get the book because his exams are based on his lectures. he makes class really interesting. he is a good, fun, moral guy! there to help, no need to know dates
This class is pretty easy. The professor is awesome. He makes history actually interesting to learn about and he makes the lectures fun and very bearable. It's like everyone on here says, the quiz is entirely of the bold face words. His exams are straight from his lectures so take good notes. I would definitley recommend him.
Great guy. Makes learning fun.
Mr. Smith is awesome!! He's a funny guy and he makes class intresting. His quizes are easy. His exams are kinda tough but take good notes in class and study hard before tests and you'll do fine! I'm going to take him again next semester for the second history!
Mr. Smith is a awsome teacher! He's very funny and manages to maintain your interest. His quizzes are esy if you read the book hint vocb. He grades somewhat hard especially essay! Great teacher take him
Mr. Smith is a really good history teacher who shows a lot of intrest in the subject and really knows what he is talking about. The quizzes are easy, read the boldfaced terms in the txt. The exams are hard though, so study atleast 3-4 days in advance. Prepare to read 4 books, they are all pretty interesting. I can't wait to take him again for 1302!
GREAT!! I had a ton of fun in his class, i have recommeded him to everyon i know since and i just loved going to class knowing he would say something funny, a crazy fact about the lesson, or have something hilarious on the power point presentation. Keeps class awake and involved. Becoming very popular at cy-fair and teaches history like he love it.
great teacher. funny. goes over great details. but tests for me was hard because it was very big vocabulary. =[ grades hard on essays.
hes so friendly!
Mr. Smith is the best history teacher I have ever had. His lectures are clear, concise, and interesting. Also, his tests are solely based on lecture notes, so take good notes and don't miss class. The quizzes he hands out are VERY easy. He also gives out extra credit on many occasions.
Very good teacher
Mr. Smith is by far the coolest teacher I've ever had! I took him for for history 1301 and 1302. He really is great. His lectures are not only interesting but fun. I laughed at least once everyday in his class b/c he's such a funny guy. Now when I see him on campus, I can't help but say hi to him! Make sure you have Mr. Smith as your teacher.
best teacher ever!!! You guys will never find a professor like this one,,, he knows how to get our attention, knows how to teach, also knows how to lead the class... take both history classes with him, you will get out with solid A
Can't say enough about how much fun history actually was with this guy this semester. Everything is lecture based, so I'd recommend showing up for class and taking notes for a good shot at an A. It's not that hard to get a B however though if you put out even half the effort. Overall, makes history a fun class to be in and not a chore like some.
He is awesome!!! The best History teacher EVER!! and I am a history major :) He is funny and makes history really fun...I would highly recommend him. His tests are all lecture based so make sure you go to class.
this guy is the best in the business...GUARANTEE...i took him during the summer for hist 1302 and i can't say enough about this guy...go to class...listen to his lectures....read the handout...study the bold printed words for his quizzes....GUARANTEE A+!!!
Wow best teacher
This teacher is badass. He has a funny sense of humor and makes class enjoyable, and where you would want to go to class. Test are easy and he does vocabulary quizzes which are basiclly a freebee. I would recommend this teacher to anybody.
Everything is lecture based so you need to show up for class or you'll miss a lot. Tests are on lectures and books you'll be assigned. Quizes are from vocabulary from books (easy). You'll enjoy his lectures. He is very funny and makes the class enjoyable.
he's really funny and nice!! he is easy on grading and everything, you must come to class to pass tests!! they're based on lectures!! we rarely use the textbooks!!! better said NEVER!! Good teacher!
All history teachers thik they're funny, Mr. Smith actually is! Just take notes and you'll do fine, his tests can be tough but you can pull a B with no problem.
Greatest teacher ever!!! He is funny, smart, and keeps the class interesting. I never missed his class because it was always so much fun. His lectures are the test. Though the test can be hard don't worry. He gives extra credit which can bump your grade up a letter grade. Greatest professor ever. I even took him for 1302 and made another A.
Mr. Smith is a FANTASTIC teacher & his lectures keep you interested! OVERALL he is GREAT!
I love this class! He keeps everything so interesting. And he is not bad looking at all...
I took him in the summer,& wish i took him in the fall b/c hes so funny, extremely nice,&he is one of the best professors i ever had.He talks about his small-town life, his son, relates 2 t.v. shows,AND talks our age "conversation" that went on in history.Gets annoyed when ppl talk while he is teaching.Just go to class, listen, take notes and laugh=D
took him for HIST 1301-1302, loves to lecture, no hw, easy quizzes, tests were kinda hard for me, must know history i guess, essays on the test, easy class overall great teacher-really funny too!!
Mr.Smith makes you want to come to class. He makes class really interesting, which is really helpful when it comes to taking exams and answering questions about in class lectures.
He is SO AWESOME!!! Without a doubt, my favorite teacher I've ever had. His tests are straight lecture, so be sure to go to class, but his slide shows are actually really funny, and he makes class fun. The tests are pretty easy, but make sure you mention everything in the essays if you want an 'A'. I recommend him 100 percent.
I LOVE THIS MAN! He explains things in a way that you can understand them without making you feel utterly stupid and he keeps you interested.
This guy is an amazing teacher! he makes the class fun and uses great examples! he makes you want to come to class. Doesn't care if you come to class or not but tests on only material/no textbook. Grades essays very hard but material is made simple by him and easy to understand! i highly reccomend, it changed my entire perspective of history!
He was always nice and helpful. He gives 1 extra credit point to your final averag 4-6 times a semester on a radom day he picks no matter who shows up. Mr. Smith makes class interesting and gets you to pay attention. There are 3 exams a semester, including the final exam. You read 3 books, each 1 on each exam. You also write a book review, 3-5 pgs.
Absolutely the best teacher I have ever had for History. The textbook is only used for vocab quizes that consist of 10 questions and then the documents book is only used for one page-double spaced reaction papers. You'll ENJOY going to class to hear his lectures. Very fun, and very easy. TAKE IT!!!!! I'm taking him again for History since 1877.
Awesome teacher, has alot of jokes, up to you if they are funny or not. Great reviews, be ready to listen/read 3 books during course. Take this prof
He is so cute in his own way. Anyways his class is awesome and his really cool. he is really interesting to listen and is funny as h*%l.
Best teacher i've ever had in my life! I have never ever done well in history and he makes everything really easy to learn and comprehend. you do have to spend time studying for the tests because its a lot of information to know, but if you study, its easy. Best teacher ever.
If Alex Smith was a Weezer song, it'd be Pork and Beans. Yes: that good. He's cute, and his zeal for History is similar to George Lucas's zeal for comic foil side characters.
he is very hard but a very good teacher! must study alll your stuff, lots of stuff you need to know. he gives extra credit on random days and he's got a great sense of humor! i highly recommend him!!!!
The most Bad A teacher. He tells jokes about everyone and everything in history. If you study you will get an A for sure. Highly Recommended!!!
Indeed one of the best instructors at Cy-Fair. Mr. Smith makes the best out of his class time. His lectures are well timed and interesting. He knows how to grab attention. He has a good sense of humor. You will never get bored in his class. Take him!! You can't go wrong with him! Believe it!! It is very easy to get an A from him!!
the best teacher ever!!! he is so cool and makes learning fun he is very laid back. His test seem easy and quizzes as well.Oh and hes HILARIOUS i want him next semester trust me take him you'll see what im talking about
He's great!!!!
I loved taking his classes. I took him for both 1301 and 1302, and enjoyed every minute of it. I went through the ratings, and not one person left a bad review, and there is a good reason, he is an amazing teacher. He is interesting and funny. His work is really easy and his tests as well. I highly recommend him.
HE IS THE BEST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD!!!!!!!!!he makes history fun to learn he is very enthusastic about history and has a passion for the subject..take him trust me im taking him again for the second history hes that good and you dont use your text too much.test are strictly notes from in class which are very entertaining
Best teacher I've had in all my years of college. I saw him at my graduation from Cy-Fair College and thanked him for being such an awesome teacher. He's funny, he's nice, and he made history (which I hate) very interesting. Terrific teacher!!
Take Him!! great teacher i have ever had everything is crystal clear. history is usually a hard course but he makes it easy. also he is very funny!
AMAZING! He's very down to earth and funny, will keep you laughing the whole class. Very fair in his grading, not a lot of homework. Very good, take him if you want to get a good grade and learn a lot about history! Plus, he's cute :0p
very funny and easy going! only uses textbook for quizes which only requires you to remember the terms not evn the def. test are 50 mul choice and one essay, all based on his notes. study notes = A. attdnce isn't mandatory.
Awesome teacher! He is one of the easiest teachers to listen to. He loves to make jokes out of history which are very entertaining. Very easy class except you HAVE to read the literature and the tests have essays which he grades pretty harshly IMO. Still he is a great teacher and I recomended him to anyone. Just STUDY HARD and read the Lit. books.
Mr.Smith was an interesting teacher. His lectures were amazing. You have 3test that includes the final. 7 quizes, 4 reaction papers, and one book review. If you get all A's on the quizes and reaction papers you do not have to do the last 2. But you better pay attention and go over the Outlines.
Great teacher although for his tests you do need to study and memorize some of the outlines. other than that, easy teacher. he's extremely funny always making jokes. he's really into the subject and even acts some parts out. word of advice: the books he wants you to read, buy them in the beginning of semes. other than that, i HIGHLY recommend him!
AWESOME teacher. Wish I took him for 1301. He is so funny in his lectures. 3 tests, which also include questions from books he assigns. You must read the books and the outlines to pass the test. 7 Quizzes but if you make A on 5 of them you don't have to take the last 2. 1 oral interview - very easy.
He is very handsome and funny. 3 tests and 1 project and lots of mini quizzes that are soooo freakin easy. Take him. He's really funny and he'll make you like history.
AWESOME TEACHER!!!! by far my favorite class so far in college. mr. smith makes things fun and doesnt depend on the text book to teach the class. he's AWESOME!
he is not good, You will not lean anything in that class. I will not recommend him to any one.
Run Run Run!!!!! Hard Professor! Do not trust all that has been written good about him! Many students dropped out of the class!
Do not take this Professor!!!! Not recommended! No curves in his class! One or two pints is nothing!
STAY AWAY!!!!! He has changed over the years. He's not the same. He's funny and he may be good looking but he's not helpful at all.
Smith is HILARIOUS when he teaches off the powerpoints. Just read the text book and take notes...that's what he does the tests/quizes over. So just take notes and read the book and you'll be fine. Awesome teacher!
Good teacher. I almost failed though because i didn't do this historical interview thing which counts for like 30% of the grade.
Wish I would have taken him for 1301! Everything that is on here is true. He is AMAZING and the best teacher i have ever had at cyfair. I have always hated history but not anymore! :)
He is very interesting in class and very funny. His tests are very straightforward but you do have to do work and study. I hate history but he makes his class very enjoyable and fun!
he is a really fun teacher and gets the really into the subject. his tests are kind of hard, but putting in the effort to study really makes the difference between passing or failing. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!
Real funny and a real good teacher. He keeps class interesting and makes everyone laugh in every class. One of my best teachers ever.
He's a great teacher super funny!!! He tells a lot of funny stories while he's lecturing. His test are kind of hard but if you study and take notes in class you'll be fine! I recommend him!
Absolutely awesome teacher! He makes learning history interesting and a pleasure. I took him in the morning and I looked forward to going to class despite his non-mandatory attendance. His stories and lectures are everything in this class. If you pay attention, you'll do fine.
Awesome teacher - uses projector to show pics throughout whole semester - keeps it fun and interesting.Lots of good stories...Test can be tough-but if you attend class-not too bad
No review for tests and everything is too detailed. You wont know what to study for exatcly.
He's a great speaker & makes history fun to learn about, but his test are so hard, you have to study your heart out to pass. He also does easy vocab quizzes and reaction papers, but they don't contribute to your overall grade to help you pass. He's also makes you do a report over a person who did something extraordinary in the past (in real life).
best history teacher Ive ever had! took him for 1301, made sure to get him for 1302. Makes history fun and interesting. Tells jokes, hes really funny. And he is really passionate about his job, and knows his stuff. Great teacher, highly recommended!
Best Professor I've had yet! He's really funny and keeps you entertained the entire time. I took him for HIST 1 and 2 during the summer. I'd rather go to his lecture than the movies. TAKE THIS GUY!!!!
Took mr. smith for history 1301 and 1302. Funniest teacher ever. Makes history super fun and exciting. Tests can be hard and you need to study for them. Quizzes and papers are super easy they help boost your grade a little. Read the books assigned and take notes and you'll be fine. Definitely recommend him!!!
In the beg. of semester, I would doze off & sleep in class. You need to be AWAKE & ATTEND to all his classes if you want to make an A. He gives surpirse extra credit on random days which is a helpful to your grade. Test & essays are based off his LECTURES & the little books that you'll have to READ. I thought I was going to make a B but got an A :)
Once you take Mr.Smith, you will completely change your mind and attitude about History. The only cons about his class is that the tests are hard, and he doesn't use powerpoint for notes, only pictures. He is very detailed, so its hard to keep up with everything he says, but he does hand out Outlines. He's super nice & funny. Oh, and he's handsome!
Mr. Smith is an excellent history professor. He made history interesting to learn. But his tests are hard and he's very strict in scoring the tests. I did all extra credit, studied hard, had perfect attendance and still could not make an A. I thought I should have an A but I get a B instead. With other class I made A's. I'm frustrated with this cla
His class can be fun and he tells some funny stories but they're useless for the test and quizes. He makes you write essays for part of his test and they're 30% of the test grade. his class is hard his funny but helpless.
Mr.Smith is great! He test come straight from lecture so you need to take notes. He also gives an essay on each test but he gives you the topic ahead of time.He also gives very simple assignments. He's super funny and makes class fun. If you pay attention in class and follow directions on assignments you'll get an A.
Mr. Smith is AMAZING! His test are directly from his lectures in class. Yes you must attend class everyday to get a decent grade in his class. His extra credit is the easiest thing possible, he will give you extra credit just for showing up. He will always make you laugh and you will enjoy going to his class everyday. Did I mention how hot he is?
Exactly as someone note, he should be A COMEDY guy, not a teacher. He can act as a history actor, he is funny, but you have to remember everything from the outlines and the book. There is no review for question, and 2 set of essays you need to remember. We all got C for first test. DO NOT RISK YOUR GRADE AND DO NOT TAKE HIM.
ARE YOU EINSTEIN? IF NOT, DO NOT TAKE HIM, CAUSE YOU WILL BARELY PASS. HE IS FUN AND HAUGHTY BUT NOT A GOOD TEACHER. HE MAKE YOU STUDY EVERYTHING FROM OUTLINES AND THE BOOK. NO REVIEW AND 2 BIG ESSAYS TO REMEMBER FOR TEST.
He could communicate well in the lecture, so if you pay attention and take good notes like you should be able to do, you shouldn't fail. I took his summer course and it was challenging. His quizzes from chapters in the book and are easy but his tests are much harder. I recommend him.
He is funny and seems nice but dont be fooled. be prepared to WORK! Its ur responsibility to take notes so be detailed and avoid missing class. test includes multiple choice from notes, about ten Qs from assigned book, and an essay portion. This class was a pain, i dont recommend him unless ur a hist buff and r ready to work, definitly not an easy
He makes class very interesting...he is very funny. His class is somewhat easy, you just have to study and take really good notes. He is an extremely hard essay grader, but as long as you write all details he talked about in class, you should do good. I really recommend him!
I love his outlines,he's very funny and makes his class interesting :)
He is the best history professor ever. Recommended
He is hilarious! Quizzes are super easy! Tests are hard! He assigns essays every two weeks are so which should be one page long and are fairly easy! I get an A each one. Take him if you are looking for a fun history class!
The easiest class i have taken. Pay attention in class, take notes the best you can, and do what he says. He doesn't give you the grade. Read the novel, study the essay topics (through your notes and the outlines), and review your notes before the test. I haven't made lower than a 92 on his tests so far. He is funny and easy to listen to.
Mr. Smith is hilarious. He makes history really interesting and tells funny back stories all the time. He has a big personality and he's really personable and nice. His class is pretty easy. You HAVE to actually read the books, not just look up notes. It's hard to make A's on the tests without reading. But I would recommend him!
He's a really good teacher. He has a sense of humor and makes the class really fun by joking around. You'll actually enjoy being in class. He's very upfront with what you need to know and he gives outlines over everything we go over. You do have to read the books and study in order to pass. He's probably one of my favorite teachers i've ever had.
The best teacher I have ever had. I never liked history until I took his class. His tests are hard but if you take good notes and read the assigned book (non text book) you will make an A
Mr. Smith is fantastic at his job. He makes the material so interesting that you actually learn and understand history even after the class is completed. Due to the challenging levels of his tests (which are not impossible) he gives easy quizzes and essay grades.
Mr. Smith takes a subject that can be dry and boring and transforms it into something interesting and fun. His tests are not easy, but the material is freely given and there is ample time to study. Loved his first class so much that I took 1302 also!
He is a funny teacher that makes the class very interesting. This is the most I have learned in a history class. His test however are immposible. I made a perfect score on the multiple choice but he grades the essays so hard that I still made C's. Dont take him if GPA matters.
He was probably by far one of my favorite teachers. He makes the class very interesting with his humor, you will actually want to go to class. It's an easy class as long as you show up to take the quizzes and as long as you take notes and study his outlines. Plus he's cute which is a plus :)
Funny as hell great lectures good personality but his tests are really hard essays are ridiculously hard and easy at the same time I recommend this professor though for sure
Smith rocks! I love history, but most people don't. He makes it fun and entertaining. Attendance isn't mandatory but tests are based strictly on lecture, so if you skip a lot this isn't a good fit. Tests are multiple choice, and essay, he gives you essay topics a week and a half before the test so you can prepare. Overall, great teacher!
Smith is an awesome professor! He makes class extremely interesting and keeps you awake and focused. He teaches through Power Points but they're all pictures so you have to take notes. He gives you an outline before each unit and he gives you the essay prompts a week before the exam. He also has a great sense of humor! Very handsome which is a plus
best hist teacher ever! he made hist so much fun. he is funny and he really cares about his students. he talks from when class starts til the end (dont be a min late). u basically write down everything he says cuz it will all be on the test. multiple choice of tests r easy but the essays r kinda hard cuz u have to write a lot of details
Amazing professor, amazing person. Completely recommend him. Quizzes are a no brainer. Learn how to take detailed notes when he lectures, he follows his outline completely so it's not hard to keep up with him-his exam will mirror his outline and details from lecture. Attendance isn't mandatory, but necessary to pass the course. EC is available.
I really hate history but Mr. Smith has changed that fact. I makes history so interesting and that makes me want to learn. He is my best history professor!
Alex Smith is truly a phenomenal teacher. If you are not a History person, you will be once you take his class. His lectures are very clear and his quizzes/essays are easy giveaways. He truly cares about his students and loves teaching. Highly recommend him as a teacher, he's a great and funny guy. Can't get enough of his lectures.
HORRIBLE TEACHER! TEST: 25 MULTIPLE CHOICE QUESTIONS + 15 BOOK QUESTIONS + 2 ESSAYS. -- You need to read a whole book and remember every detail of it, plus remember 2 essays because 1 of them will be on the test andd memorize around 6 outlines with about 30 things in it. If you like this, take him. I DONT RECOMMEND HIM.
Anyone who says his tests are too hard is just lazy. Read the assigned book, take good notes, actually study, you'll do GREAT. He gives you the essay prompts well over a week prior to test so you know what to expect. He makes history EXTREMELY interesting and grabs your attention. Best history professor!I recommend him hands down!
He is HILARIOUS & a total hunk! You will change the way you think about history, and actually want to learn more. I used to hate history, but that soon changed after I took this class! It's NOT an easy A, you have to work hard for your grade, but it isn't so bad. He is very helpful, and is available to students whenever! Highly recommended! FUN!!!
The lectures really make my day, he really makes it very interesting and funny. Definitely recommend. His tests are easy aside from the essays which you must memorize every little detail about a subject and read the book assigned. But beside that im very glad ratemyprofessor.com turned me on to him!
At the begining of the course I was not looking forward to the class at all. But after one day in class it was completely different story, the class was no doubt the best class I had this year. I would be suprised if this guy doesn't end up at an Ivy Leage school somewhere down the road.
BEST TEACHER EVER! You need to read the books that he assigns for the test and take very good notes. His sense of humor is great, and time flies in his class!
He's the best history teacher ever! You do need to take notes, study, and read. He makes history so interesting. Take him!!!
So far the best professor I've had! Got an A in both of his classes. He makes class interesting and easy to follow. He basically outlines all of the notes that you'll need for the tests. Just listen and follow along with what he says and read the assigned books and you'll get an A!
He is the best teacher I have EVER had, plus he's hot! He is so funny and class makes class so interesting. I wish I would have had him for the first history class. His tests were super easy as long as you read and studied. Seriously, take his class!
I took Alex Smith for both classes. He's a very interesting teacher! He really cares for his students and is a total history nerd. This is the class you want first thing in the morning because it's such an exciting class. Test can be a little difficult but you just have to study the outlines as you along with the course. Total hunk as well!
took him over the summer of 12. Passionate about his field and just very energetic. He likes to make a lot of jokes concerning history to try to make everything entertaining. He may come across as a goof but he's very serious on test days. His essay questions are hard and requires you to state exactly what happened concerning an event
Fantastic Professor, in my 3 years here he is my favorite along with Warner Bair in Biology. I have considered on taking History 1&2 again just to take a class with him. Be quick to join his class though! They fill up in the first day or two of registration!
This is a fantastic professor if you are good at only studying lecture notes. He does not teach on what the textbook you're required to get is based on. Only what he says in class will be on the test so don't miss a day. He goes over alot of material. Study and you'll be fine. 3 tests, 10 quizzes, and 4 papers.
BEST history teaher I've ever had! Makes the class fun and enjoyable! Teaches like history is a actual STORY nota boring requirement! Imonly sd that i didnt take him for 1301! Just pay attention print the notes highlight what he says are important, actually READ the books (I didnt) which made me get B and autually plan both of the essays! GREAT guy
Smith is the best History professor I've had! He's a good speaker and makes History interesting and relatable. His class is all lecture but he provides you with an outline which makes it really easy for you to follow along and know the important things to take notes on. The tests are fairly easy as long as you prepare for the essay questions.
Alex Smith is an awesome teacher! his quizes are easy if you look over your vocabulary. there is a major taped interview that is a must to d0. tests are over his lectures(if you miss class you wont pass) and over a book. The hardest part of his class is the essay on the test he wants LOTS OF DETAILS.
He grades very hard! Funny, but can be rude and serious at times.
I took his mini-mester class, and it's pretty easy. Be ready to take TONS of notes, though. The quizzes were over vocab and were super easy if you just looked over the words. VERY critical on essays. Make sure you look over your notes carefully a few times before the exam because it's extensive.
2 Essays, 6 quizzes, 2 tests. Grades essays hard, quizzes are like 1st grade material, tests are middle school. He is very nice, and is a great speaker. If you don't make an A, you lack basic study skills.
Awesome Techer!!! Has a sense of humor at times. You don't need text book you can go to library and get the vocabulary words. You only have two books to read it's easy. The Quiz are easy if you read and he help you with it. Take This Teacher! Really Helpful!
Professor Smith is a excellent teacher. He is one of the best teachers at Lone star college. He is funny and nice and will make sure you understand the material. Just study (because this college) and you will do fine. so hurry and register before his class gets filled up.
Best teacher. Makes class enjoyable, tells interesting stories rather than boring information. If you are considering taking his class get ready for those "pesky" quizzes :) Take him!!!
Greatest Professor ever! Ridiculously funny, and entertaining. If he can't make you like history, it's hopeless. He tells it like he was there, like a storybook. You will pass, sure taking notes is a lot of work, but unless you put in the effort to do so, you won't get everything out of the class that Smith has to offer.
I took both 1301 and 1302 may-mini and summer classes. He is very entertaining and his classes are always full. Yes, you have to take lots of notes and be very clear and thorough in your essay responses because he does grade hard on those. Overall easy quizzes, easy tests. Just show up, listen, take notes. I got A's in both classes.
Very Funny Teacher who makes history class enjoyable.
OMG!!! I LOVE MR.SMITH!! He is the best teacher I've ever had. Class work is hard but he is worth it. Just study and you will make an A. His class is like watching a tv show. He really knows what he is talking about and is very entertaining. Because of him I have decided to become a teacher. TAKE HIM WITHOUT HESITATION!!!
BEST BEST BEST TEACHER ANYONE CAN HAVE!! I HATED HISTORY (still kinda do) but he made the class so enjoyable!! Never thought I would look forward going into a subject I do not like! I HIGHLY reccommend for anyone to take him. Hard grader but study and you'll be just fine! Go Mr. Smith!!!
Very cool and funny teacher, very passionate on what he does but a HARD GRADER. Two tests + a final (an essay included on each). Each test is 20% and each one of them covers almost 4 or 5 long outlines + you MUST have to read a whole book for each test. Essays need to be perfect because he would get points off for anything.
love the his class very funny and make class very interesting. I would recommend his clss
Professor Smith is an incredible teacher. He is my favourite teacher so far (very entertaining lectures), and I have taken him twice. If you study and do everything he says, you will get an A. If you don't get an A, there is no one to blame but you since all you have to do is make sure to study.
I love Mr. Smith...class is always interesting. He's hilarious, and you learn to appreciate history. Tests are a bit hard, but overall class is pretty simple. I wish I had him for hist 1301... TAKE HIM!!!
It's my 1st sem. of coll. and Mr. Smith is by far my fav. teacher! He's hilarious and makes history really enjoyable! Honestly didn't buy the txtbook and wiki everything. Tests requires a bit of study, especially for the essay but other than that it's all fairly easy. Made an A in his class! Highly recommend him! Just wished I could take him again.
I absolutely loved taking Mr. Smith's class. I had little in history before I took his class but I enjoyed it so much, he is hilarious. The class is not hard, but it is the kind of class where you will do well if you work. If you do the work, attend, take notes, and study, you can do well. If I had one complaint, it's that it's a little too easy :)
I do have to say that when it comes to the tests you need to study, atleast 4 days to split up the content properly. It's an easy class if you don't have other classes that are very demanding. Just show up to class, take notes, pay attention and be ready study!! It's a demanding class, but it's worth the challenge!
Never been interested in history, until this class! He's such a great teacher and I would recommend him to everyone. There's not a minute in class I didn't spend laughing. Best History Teacher ever!
Very good teacher, easy quizzes, but tests were very difficult including essays because he grades really hard, but he tells you what's on the tests and quizzes and is organized with the outline he teaches from
Mr. Smith made history interesting. He is a great speaker and lectures very well. I laughed every time I went to class. I took 1301 in a mini and 1302 regular session. The mini was easier only because it required less work but don't miss AT ALL! All tests are over his lectures. Quizzes are simple. He grades hard but is an awesome professor.
Prof Smith is awesome. Funny, great at lecturing. Made class interesting. I took him in a mini as well (1301). The only diff was that he required less work in the mini than in the reg. session. Overall, he makes class NOT boring and you actually LEARN. I found myself actually interested in Amer. Hist. DON'T BE LAZY, TAKE NOTES & READ!
Excellent teacher. PROS: He's VERY entertaining; if you've never found history interesting, he will change your mind. Light work load; very little assignments, but you do need to stay on top of your reading. CONS: Exams are part multi-choice part essay, and he grades the essay VERY tough. You MUST be prepared for the essays or you will fail.
This professor is the best, he made history fun and interesting wanting to know more to a topic, you need to be in class, his exam requires lecture information to be able to do the essay part, he is a hard grader for that part of the only 3 tests he gives. and he gives you the topic for it so if you are not planning to go to class don't take it
excellent professor, very funny. if you do what you are supposed to do, you should easily pass the class. definitly take him.
He is a very funny guy makes the lecture fun most of the time, he does talk the entire class and you have to be taking as he talks, lots an lots of notes but the exam questions are the important things that kind of get memorized in your head. Never read the books for exams and always got B's on them. Common sense questions.
Mr. Smith was THE BEST teacher i have had during my time at lodestar!!!!!! he is so funny and truly cares about what he is talking about! he rarely uses the text book only for a quiz thats EASY 10 questions, basically fill in the blank! i wish he taught more classes. i took him for HIST 1301 and 1302 i got an A in both! take him you WONT REGRET IT
Professor smith is such an awesome teacher! but you MUST without question be in class everyday to even think about passing. I was there everyday and made a C. He Knows the material Very well and he is very funny and entertaining. if your looking for a good teacher, you found one! MAKE SURE YOU study study study!
LISTEN AND TAKE NOTES, also ready EVERY BOOK. There are random questions in the test worth A LOT of points that if you didnt read the book you would fail, hence why I got a C. I was lucky to get a C. He loves Starbucks by the way!!
If you are not a History major dont take him he takes it way to serious, test are not hard but he puts to much materials in it to make it hard. Cool guy but just complicates it more then he should.
Awesome teacher. I took him during the summer and i wish i would have taken him again this semester but his class was full :( He actually made history interesting, he makes jokes, and I promise there is no way you can go to sleep. he is so entertaining. Test were based of lectures so attendance is major. take alot of notes and pay attention :)
Alex Smith is a great teacher. If history has never been your thing take him! He makes everything very interesting and easy to understand. He's hilarious. Show up to class everyday and pay attention, he provides a note outline to follow, and read the books for the test! I'm taking him again for 1302.
Hilarious professor, taking him again for 1302. Gives few tests so they are usually over quite abit of content followed by an essay but if you study you will do really well. He usually reminds you of any assingmnents that are due and he is kind of strict about deadlines but gives you plenty of time to complete each and every one.
I loved Hist 1302... Thanks to Mr. Smith.. He is great, and makes every class fun and entertaining... He is the Best!!!
Professor Smith is by far the best professor I've had. He makes class interesting because his lectures are more like stories rather than history facts, and since he includes humor in everything he says. The key to passing his class is attending, paying close attention to what he says, and taking thorough notes. This class is an easy A.
Well aside from his super big ego, and the fact that I think he just likes the sound of his own voice, he is an amazing teacher. Funny, sarcastic, and intelligent, I have loved this class so far. The books are difficult to read, but the tests are not hard as long as you prepare. He makes his expectations clear from the beginning.
Alex Smith is without a doubt my favorite professor! History was a bore to me until I took his class, he makes the class worth going to and you'll leave knowing more about historical events that happened. I highly reccomend!!
Take this class! The lectures are hilarious and interesting and he doesn't care about attendance. However, the tests are based off the lectures, so you should go to class and take great notes. Don't buy the textbook for this reason, only the novels for the tests and the assignment book called "Voices of Freedom" by the same author as the textbook.
Professor Smith is AMAZING, for his tests just make sure you prepare and you will pass them, they are not that hard. The review is just like exam.. he is hilarious in his lectures, I am not a history person and always thought it was boring.. this guy made it fun. If you take his class you are lucky!
Professor Smith is by far my favorite teacher in college so far. He tells history like a story, he acts out scenes and makes different voices for people. You can tell he has such a passion for history and knows what he is talking about, which makes it so much more intriguing. I am definitely taking his 1302 class next year. TAKE PROFESSOR SMITH.
You do have to work for this class, but it is worth it. The lectures are always funny and interesting. He is clear about assignments and reminds you about due dates. Do not buy the textbook, just the cheaper assignment book for HW. Just make sure to practice the essay questions for the test and to attend as much as you can. Notes are crucial!
Amazing professor who's passionate about what he's teaching. Loved taking his class. He's funny, animated, and I learned a lot about History. I took him for summer mini and enjoyed every bit of it. The important part of this class is attendance. Be there, take notes, and pay attention. After that, everything is easy.
Great teacher. His class is pretty easy as long as you do the work (which isn't very hard). His tests take a long time, but he makes up for it with his awesome lectures. He covers the material he needs to and he makes it interesting with funny stories, videos and other stuff. If you need to take HIST 1302, take it from this guy.
Smith is hilarious.
Professor Smith gives an amazing lecture. However, students must study for the essay topic in the test.
Mr. Smith is a very great teacher. He hands you essay topics about 2 weeks before tests and gives you time to practice them, he chooses one out of the two when he hands you the test. If you don't read the books assigned you won't pass the test. Gives an attendance sheet once in a while to use for extra credit. Always has the class laughing.
He is an awesome teacher. If you have him you're lucky!! He is funny and its the first time i actually learned history. You do have to read three books and study for the essays. He is a fair grader. Great teacher
Professor Smith gives awesome lectures and makes them really interesting. I usually hate history, but he made it fun. You have to read a book for each test and if you don't you won't pass. Also, you have to study for the tests and essays on the test or won't pass either. But quizzes, reaction papers, and book reports are super easy.
He is a great professor, always there if you need any help. He is well organized and a very funny guy, definitely recommend! He is very strict with tardiness so be there on time.
Amazing professor, really helpful, and his lectures are crystal clear. There is not much work but the work that he does assign is expected to have a lot of detail and dedication. The class is easy and so much fun because professor Smith loves to add humor and personal stories to many of his lessons. I would definitely take the class again!!
The class is easy if you show up every day, turn in work on time, and show up to class on time. Professor Smith is very strict on tardiness, if you miss an assignment well it sucks to be you. However, there is plenty of opportunity to boost your grade. The class itself was so interesting because he adds stories and acts out events in his lessons.
He's honestly the best professor I have gotten. He is a mix of Jonah Hill and a typical dad who tries makes jokes. His lessons are super fun, he hates Rhode Island:-)
he is an awesome teacher . he made me laugh allot. and it is challenging because again we are in college!. he clearly tells us what he expects from us and always reminds us of due dates ahead of time. his lectures do help allot in the tests . take notes read the books and you will be fine. he grades fair.
Professor Smith is the absolute best teacher I have had in my college career. I am now Graduating in May 2015 and I have never had anyone who teaches like him.
I took mr. smith in summer 1 and he teaches really nice. The only thing I did not liked it reading two books. He explains the material really nice but you have to work for grade.
He is EXCELLENT! One of the bests proffesors I've had so far. He knows history to detail! He jokes often and even though the lectures are long, he makes it highly entertaining. YOU MUST BE PREPARED TO READ! At least 2 books per semester.
He makes lectures fun with voices and jokes, not only that but he knows so much about a subject that you didn't even know about. Believe it or not I learned stuff about the American revolution I didn't know already from elementary-high school. Only negative is the reading and the fact you have to memorization prompts for essay topics.
His lectures are very fun with a lot of humorous stories. He looks like an easy person, but in fact, he is really strict with time and grade, especially grammar. he will take off many points if you have any grammar mistakes. There are 3 exams (include lectures and a book), 3 reaction papers, 5 quizzes, and a book analysis.
He is hilarious. I took him for the Winter Minimester and didn't even mind going to class because his lectures were so engaging
He is hilarious. I took him for the Winter Minimester and didn't even mind going to class because his lectures were so engaging! Great guy
Smith is the best, very helpful and nice
Probably the best teacher I have ever taken! His classes seem long but his sense of humor and the way he teaches makes up for it! I would take this class again no questions asked.
The lectures are amazing, he's funny, he has literarily everything in his head and doesn't go off a PowerPoint. He provides printed outlines so you have something to follow. The test and book review however aren't hard... but require study and work. Be aware you will have to do something you didn't do in high school, actually study history.
He's an amazing teacher and you can tell how much he loves the subject. His lectures are always funny and entertaining. He gives extra credit just for showing up on random days so make sure you're there. He's always very helpful if you have questions. Make sure you read for the tests and pre-write your essays! Wish I could take him again!
Professor Smith makes a somewhat boring subject very interesting and funny. His class seems long but with his jokes and impersonations of people the class goes by super quick. He's a great professor & i would take him again!
(Taken during a 3 week minimester) Amazing teacher, he doesn't read off the power point- he has all his lectures memorized. If you take good notes and are actually in class you will pass. Test's are 50 questions multiple choice, there's one book to read which is actually interesting and 6 easy A quizzes.
I'm awful at history and his lectures made this class so easy for me. He is full of information and knows what he is talking about. You're responsible for your own notes so if they aren't good you're out of luck. I'm waiting until my schedule lines up with his just so I can take it again. It's worth it.
Just had Mr. Smith for a mini-mester of History 1301. He was amazing and very entertaining. Real cool dude. Absolutely recommend.
He's Funny! But when it comes to Exams and Reading it's no joke! His class is tough. I asked for extra credit but I was denied. While I know last semester my friend's that took him told me he gave out extra credit all the time.
I took him because his reviews were A1!!!!!!!!! He has a passion for teaching but he's the first professor I realized that takes Bribes!!!!!! Every Friday I would get him Starbucks and I'm guessing that's the only reason I passed his class.
He made history fun! He is very chill and fun and truly enjoys history. He has a passion for teaching. His lectures are like a fun speech! He is funny and very very nice!
I have Mr. Smith now for Hist 1301. Its very fast paced but he makes it so interesting it is hard to lose focus. He gives you all the information you need to pass, but you will have to actually do your part and work. His quizzes and test are straight to the point and come straight from your notes unless he says otherwise. I really enjoy his class.
HE'S AMAZING. If you're lazy DON'T take him. He lays everything out and is clear about everything that will be submitted. He requires you to read a book before every test but he gives you plenty of time. The test is straight from the notes so take some good ones. He makes history interesting and is hilarious!!
Awesome lecturer.
Took Mr. Smith for a summer session and he was on point with all his lectures. There's minimal textbook use, and the tests are not accumulative. He adds humor to his lectures, is caring , & he will definitely make you love history! Def would take again!
History has never been so easy to learn! Mr. Smith's lectures are memorized, clear to understand, and are engaging with his humor. Even in a three hour class (mini-mester) a lecture is never boring. *Do not buy the text book as you can just research the vocab terms for quizzes!* Take tons of notes as essays and tests are solely based on notes.
The best class i took in lone star.
One of the BEST teachers I have ever had in my college career. I never truly cared for history and could never stay focused in class but in his class he makes history super relatable and acts things out for us visual learners. He actually keeps you entertained which is very rare in a history class. Definitely recommend him for anyone. Super great!
Great professor iam upset i couldn't take him for 1302
He tells what you need to learn like a story. He keeps you interested. I took him in for a summer session and his exams consisted of 30 multiple choice questions and a essay. If you go to class and study your notes then you will do very good. He doesn't use the textbook for the lectures so don't bother getting it. He's a very good teacher!
This guy right here is HILARIOUS! My snapchat story is full of him! he does have alot of papers but it is very easy to pass... we had to read 2 books, and he has those little 1 page essays every now and then. Over all, great teacher 3
Amazing! He teaches like he's reading you a story or describing a movie, making everything easy to remember. If you go to class and listen you'll do well and will definitely enjoy it. We read a couple of books, did a couple essays, and a few tests. As long as you do the assigned work, you'll pass.
Mr Smith was my favorite professor of the semester. There are few homework assignments but you have to do well on them in order to succeed in his class. Warning: His tests and book quizzes are hard so you must study. His lectures were fantastic and he definitely kept us entertained as well as informed. Couldn't recommend him more!
Fantastic teacher. He really paints a beautiful scene of history and I enjoyed every second of the lecture. He follows the outline so notes are easy to take and does not use the textbook. If you pay attention, show up, and do not write the essay the day before, you will get an easy A.
Professor Smith is extremely nice and HILARIOUS. He cares A LOT about his students. His class was NEVER boring. As long as you do your work, you will get a good grade. Also, he gives EXTRA CREDIT. Take him!!!! You will NOT regret taking his class.
I took this class over a wintermester and hIs class is all lecture based. They're pretty easy to sit through since he's a great lecturer. All you have to do is type notes as he's talking and you'll pass with ease. I wrote the essays and studied for the tests the night before and made A's on them. His humor is a little forced, but overall he's nice.
He is so good , just take him please! I wish i could go on a school trip with him and have him be my tour guide lol he know a lot and he's so cool. And yes he's hot, for a professor he's good looking, but anyway take him ! His Thomas Jefferson accent is the best
He was a great professor. Just finished my 8 week class with him today. Easily the only professor I've had that has made history fun for me. Lectures are hilarious, and tests are pretty easy. I wrote the essays in just a few hours and did great. Make sure you read the books for the book quizzes!
Best professor I've ever had! Extremely funny and keeps the class interesting. His class is part of the reason why I'm getting a history degree. Definitely have to go to every class, but I never wanted to miss one anyways. Tests are your whole grade but if you properly prepare for them you will do okay!
okey, okey... he is hilarious... but so much reading, so many papers, like there are something that are just like come on too much. quizzes are easy but those papers dude
After attending lonestar for 2+ years & even before attending college i can honestly & truly say i have NEVER came across a teacher that was so passionate about what they do, & i loved every second of his classes. This professor was hilarious! Dont miss class, pay attention, and yes hes a tough grader but it really comes down to your effort put in
One of the best professors I ever had, very enthusiastic. Lectures are never boring he describes everything clearly and entertaining. The professor has outlines that give an overview of the exam material and he also tells you what type of essays the exams will have ahead of time, just make sure to be prepared. Quizzes are easy, essays are alright.
Professor Smith is so passionate in what he does, I recommend him to everyone. He is the reason I changed my major to Education.
Professor Smith is awesome! He lets you know up front exactly what you need to do to pass the course. Do it and you'll pass. Very entertaining lectures and he dresses very nice so he's easy to pay attention to.
I took Professor Smith for History 1301/1302. Let me just say he was so awesome! He is extremely passionate about history, his lectures are so funny and interesting. He grades you for whatever you deserve. I would take him again 10/10.
Smith is great professor! He has amazing lectures, and is amazing at making History interesting. Best professor i've had so far who is passionte about their job.
Where do I begin.. he's the best history teacher.. I would take him again if I could..
Alex Smith is incredible. I am currently taking him for Sum1 and the course load is doable. 5 quizzes, 3 tests (2 that include essays), and you have to read 2 books that are less than 200pgs. If you're a lazy student I do not recommend taking him. He expects his students to work and I've enjoyed every second of every class/assignment. AMAZING CLASS
Alex smith is a good professor , but in his class, he has favorites. He goes very easy on them, but is picky with those who are not his favorites. avoid him is possible!
Professor Smith is AMAZING! He LOVES history and especially talking about it. He gives quizzes but they are over easy terms. You have to read 2 books for the tests, so that was difficult for me. there is only 2 exams they're simple. He is SOO funny!! i would take him again and again! MUST TAKE
Amazing lectures! Made history fun. Would definitely take him again! Very tough grader (especially on grammar/punctuation/spelling) Tests are tough so study hard & pre-write/memorize those essays to get the most points on tests. Pretty fair but does have favorites. As long as you do the work, you should be fine.
3 multiple choice tests (plus mid & final), 5 super easy quizzes (6 questions at most) and 3 one page papers, double-spaced. Also oral interview of someone about experience in history and write transcript, not hard. Classes are fun, animated, and he makes great jokes/puns that are somewhat mature but not too dirty ;). Take him, won't regret at all.
Offers extra cred and lectures are well done and funny. Has a sense of humor and tells both sides of history good, bad, ugly, dishonest, etc. One thing I really appreciated was he didn't let his own political views/biases get in way of teaching. Won't even tell you his party unless you ask after semester is over. Take him, no regrets, best prof.
He acts out his lectures, so It is easy to understand the topic. You have got to pay close attention, because he goes through the outlines VERY fast. His tests were hard, but the final was easier. Tough grader when It comes to grammar on papers, but I would still get an A. He also doesnt input grades, so keep count on your own grades.
Even though his class did not require attendance, I always went because his lectures are interesting and fun. He is a fair grader, overall lovable. BEWARE, you SHOULD read the books he assigns. Some exam questions are over the book, so read if you want to get an A. Gives multiple extra credit opportunities as well.
As a someone whom only cared about STEM classes, I came in wanting to get the class over with. However, Professor Smith's lectures truly taught me to appreciate history. He is very passionate in what he teaches, and makes it very entertaining. I've been in school for over 2 years, so I can truly say he is a real gem. Strongly recommend to take him.
Alex smith is an amazing teacher, his lectures are extremely good, and if you take good notes on them then you will get an B or A. there is I believe a paper to write, which I didn't think he was tough grader on. two books to read (short). but i would love to take him again just because his lectures are so good, took both histories with him.
This professor is hilarious and loves what he does and you can tell from his lectures. He gives you outlines to follow during the lecture and he explains everything to you so that you'll be ready for the tests. The lectures are awesome and i love this class but the tests are difficult. I still recommend you take this class though, it's worth it.
He's a great professor and well respected as he should be. But he is lecture heavy. That's one of my complaints; no use of technology, very little class interaction, no class participation. That being said, if you don't mind 1 1/2 hours of someone doing all the talking, he's the man. He is a good guy and you will learn if you take lots of notes.
Incredible! Recommend everyone to take Smith!!
Prof. Smith is absolutely amazing. A textbook was not required thankfully, and he did not require us to memorize dates. He is truly passionate about history. He gives quizzes every other week and they are really simple, consisting of defining events and vocab. He is funny and entertaining, I took him at 9am and I never got bored during his lectures
GREAT PROFESSOR! Lectures are entertaining and he is an easy grader. Everyone must take him. Highly recommended.
Makes very funny lectures and history more interesting, couldn't think of a better professer.
Professor Smith was the greatest history teacher i've ever had, and i would recommend him to anyone. I genuinely looked forward to going to class and hearing his lectures.
Prof Smith is an amazing professor, he really knows how to make history interesting. However, the class is very lecture heavy so if you don't pay attention you can miss some important information. 2 big tests (with essay), 5 easy quizzes, and 4 one page papers. He also assigns two books to read and a book report at the end of the semester.
Prof Smith is easily the best professor at Lone Star. He is quirky, funny, and passionate. His class is lecture heavy, but I did not mind it because he lectures very well and keeps you entertained from beginning to end. If you have the chance to take him- DO IT. He tells you exactly what to do in order to pass his class. He's the best!
He is so passionate about history which make his lectures incredible and so entertaining. Its so cool to take a class with a professor who LOVES what hes doing because it really shows in the way he teaches. Love the guy. Dont skip class or youre gonna fail hehe <3
TAKE HIM. End of story. This is coming from someone who hates history, but Prof. Smith made me appreciate history. His lectures are amazing and hilarious. He doesn't require you to remember dates or use a textbook! 3 tests in total, a few EASY quizzes , 3-4 one-page papers, and a book review. Just put in the effort and you will pass! He is the BEST
Mr. Smith is the best professor I have ever had. His class is very lecture heavy which is something I love as an auditory learner. He makes it really fun and interesting, doing different voices for different historical figures and sharing very detailed history I probably would not have learned otherwise. I took the Winter Mini, and it was a blast.
This amazing man was born to be a teacher, amazing teacher and loves history. Very important to attend each class because there will be a lot of necessary lecture that will be on exams and essays. Exams are easy if you study, quizzes are even easier, book review is easy if you read and understand the book. Participatepass, he makes history fun.
Funniest Man Alive
wish he was my dad tbh
Professor Smith has amazing lectures and if you take notes and take the time to study it is an easy A. The guy does a great job in making the material entertaining and easy to remember.
If it wasnt for the tests I would totally take this class again. He gives amazing lectures! Test are easy until its comes down to the essay portion. He does give you the essay topics around a week or 2 before the test; but EVERYTHING thats on his outline MUST be in the essays. That means you have to memorize the 2 essays you wrote word4word.
He requires absolutely too much from you! Take him at your own risk but trust me youll pay for it
Dont take him! Trust me youll be teaching yourself. He uses outline with very little information, no power points, and no review sheets for exams. You will spend a lot of time studying. (3 exams )2 requires two page essays plus complete 30 to 35 multiple-choice, read 1 book per exam, 10questions on book, in class 3paper and 7quizzes.
Professor Smith made it so simple and easy for me to understand history. He gives out very easy quizzes, three reaction papers, and one book review assignment. For two tests, you have to read a novel and he'll ask 10 questions about it. Make sure you read the books he assigns you or else your grade will suffer.
The classwork was minimum but the study load wasnt. I had to drop the class in order for me to keep up with the demands of my other classes.
Lectures are amazing, however there are no words on the slides so you have to listen to him as you write down the information. Tests are easy as long as you show up &listen to his lectures&study the outlines he provides & going over lecture notes. 7 vocab quizzes, 3 critical thinking, 3 exams (2 with essays), 1 book review. no textbook needed
Professor Smith is the best history teacher I have ever had. He uses every minute of his lectures and they are actually very enjoyable. I took O'Brien for history 1301 because he was the only honors history professor and wow.. after taking Smith I wished so bad that I had taken him for 1301 too. He also very fair about the assignments he gives out.
If you need to take history, take this class! It was the best class I have ever taken. Professor Smith takes many steps to make history enjoyable. The class is very lecture heavy, but they are very entertaining and funny.
Honestly, he makes history interesting and teaches with a passion. He was clear in what he needs you to know, and taking notes is extremely recommended. You don't need any books except the Fires of Jubilee, which he will give you a quiz on. I highly recommend his class and make sure you take good notes and review them before your tests.
Anybody who gives Mr. Smith a low score on here just wants it easy. He is one of the few mentors in my life who has inspired me to become a professor myself. No words on the slides because he wants you to actually LEARN and not just focus on memorizing words on a screen. He tells you exactly what he needs from you. Great professor.
Heavy lecture. You would need to memorize and read a lot from three different books . All tests, quizzes and essays are in class nothing is online. The class is very fun the 2 hours will go like 30 minutes. If you planning to study, work hard and history is very important to your major. Probably he will be your best option.
He is a great professor !!! Just study and you will be fine
I took him for summer session. He goes by outlines and his lecture which is very interesting. All you need to do is just study outlines, pay attention, do not miss the class and read 2 short books for 2 tests. I am an international student and made A and I believe if I did y all can do it.
3 test including final, 2 books to read, 4 papers hes kinda a tough grader on grammar. smith is honestly the best teacher ive ever had he makes history so fun and easy to understand and super chill. BUT his tests are based on his lectures so you HAVE to be in class to pass i missed one day and failed majority of the first test and learned my lesso
He is literally the best history professor at lone star. He gives hilarious lectures and really has you intrigued no matter how much you could hate history. Very entertaining but the class is not easy. Make sure you are willing to put in a lot of effort to pass and especially if you want an A. Overall he is unforgettable!
You can tell he knows his craft. He's passionate about history, and funny as well. Took him in the summer and it was overall very enjoyable. Only complaint is that I wish he would let the class participate more. He does most of the talking and it can be a bit much to stare at a person for 2 hours without saying a word. Besides that, I loved it!
10 quizzes. Exams are multiple questions with Essays + questions over the book you have to read. Two book review essays. Tough grader on essays. When you review for exams you have to rely on your notes because he does not provide a review, just an outline. Other than that he's hilarious. Get ready to study and read or else you fail.
Professor Smith was a great history teacher. A great lecture-er he makes it so it is not boring. Textbook not required, but there are two books you will be tested on. Two of the exams require an in-class essay, HOWEVER, he does NOT give you the option to choose which topic. You have to study and take notes for this class if you want to pass.
He will definitely make history more interesting for you. I never really liked history, but with his humor and his way of telling stories make you actually want to learn something new every day. He also provides outlines for the semester, so you will know what will be covered in class and to stay in track. 100% recommended!
Tough grader in this class.
To make things short, his excellent at lectures. I wish he gave out real test reviews for the exams tho. Beware of the essay portion of the exams you have to be very specific! Read your books and takes notes. You will have to do a report on one of them. The reason for the low score was because of how the exams change online due to COVID-19.
I took him for 1301 and I just had to take him for 1302 as well! I love his lectures and his humor. I was pretty upset when our classes transitioned online due to the pandemic and I couldn't hear his lectures :( Make sure you use the outlines to help you take notes. STUDY for tests and ALWAYS read the books he assigns. Don't be fooled, read & study
Hes a very funny and nice person but he does not provide power points and hes a very very very very and extremely hard grader.
Took him during the COVID19 pandemic for summer 2020. I kept up with all my work, but this class was still a lot of work. Just read the powerpoints and good luck with those long short answers.
This is as truthful as I can get. I took Prof Smith for a summer session along with another class. He is respectful and answers e-mails quickly. But he is unstable to me on his way of grading, lot's of work, took online. Due to COVID this was my 2nd class online, and he did not care. Does not like a student to give constructive criticism.
Mr. Smith gives the best lectures! But, be prepared to take VERY good notes! Youre grade depends on how well you take notes. He provides an outline, but no power point slides. Dont miss class or you will fail. Hes a tough grader on grammar for the papers you have to write, but thats expected. Just take good notes and study.
Not only are his lectures amazing, but hes very communicative and understanding. This class is not an easy A if you dont put in the work, just take notes and study the outlines and you will do fine. Its been about two semesters since I have taken Mr. Smiths class, and Im still looking for more professors like him, 100/10 recommend this class!!
This is the worst professor I've ever had. He will grade you only on the material from his power point lectures, not the textbook, and will vary greatly on grading written assignments without explaining why. Has a superiority complex. Not the kind of person to admit fault. Extremely temperamental and resistant to criticism. Not funny.
Overall a really good teacher and if you study the powerpoint and outlines he makes youre bound to get a good grade. He hates cheating and sometime puts trick question on his test to see if a students googles the answer, but if you understand the topic then dont worry. There are few assignments he gives which are are simple, definitely take him.
Mr. Smith is a phenomenal history professor, perhaps the best there is! Makes the lessons fun and easy to learn. You just have t.o stay engage and study. He is Awesome the person to take for this!
You have to take this professor, he is great at his teaching craft. You have to study and follow his powerpoints and write down notes. He provides outlines that will guide you as you are learning the lessons. Pay attention! He does his job you have to do yours and DON'T procrastinate, it will bit you! He is the man for history!
You guys are being warned, Professor Smith is a cool guy but not a great teacher; he's not the type of teacher to deserve to have a class during COVID or any online classes. He expects you to answer 10 WORD questions in under 9 minutes no multiple choice, on top he's not open mined or caring at all. Cool guy but terrible teacher and grading.
Prof. Smith was great while I had him! I hate history, but he made it way more understandable with his to-the-point powerpoints. Don't waste money on the textbook, the powerpoints have all you need. He gives many opportunities to drop lower grades, and makes some assignments optional. Make sure to READ THE ASSIGNED BOOKS. An honest 4.7/5!
Tests specifically over his PowerPoints. Makes funny jokes. Make lectures very interesting, you can just tell he loves history, making it more fun to learn. Answers emails within 48 hours. I will be taking him for my next history class!
I have taken Professor Smith for both HIST 1301 + 1302. All the information in the tests are from his PowerPoints. He has videos of him talking about the topics in his PowerPoints that help greatly since this class was online. He sticks to his syllabus so you will always know when an assignment or quiz is due. I would highly recommend him 10/10
this class actually made me start liking history. i loved all of the information he had broken down into powerpoints. tests were incredibly easy if you studied the whole powerpoint and study guides then went over them again. drops tests, quizzes, and papers. very informative and easy to reach. made learning history fun. 10/10 highly recommend !!
this professor is the worst. he accuses people of cheating and even if you are not he gives you a zero. his PowerPoints have over 90 slides weekly. this professor is definitely old school and takes this so serious. do not take him
SAVE YOURSELF THE TIME AND ACCUSATIONS! He accuses you of cheating even when you provide proof that you did not. He puts you down and scolds you as a person and a student. Just overall awful as a professor and seriously shouldnt be one. Hes the type that looks to fail you and thinks hes witty and funny. DONT TAKE HIM IF YOU WANT TO PASS!
An entertaining professor that makes you work for your grade. Four easy MC quizzes, two (1pg) essays, one (5pg book review), two monograph quizzes, two exams (open note), and one final (not cumulative). ExamsIdentical to his slides. Very entertaining class. Your grade is dependent on good notes. Strict cheating policy. Makes history interesting!
Take well written notes over his lectures. There's essays on tests and they have to be well written with a lot of information to get a good amount of points. His tests are essay heavy so make sure you understand what you're learning. For the essays, meet the requirements and follow all the directions and you'll get an A on it. Final has no essay.
Mr. Smith is truly amazing! He is super organized, follows the syllabus and responds emails rather fast. If you study for his tests and do the requirements, you are sure to succeed. Also, you do need the textbooks for specific assignments but, you don't actually need to spend time reading them.
MR. SMITH IS A FANTASTIC PROFESSOR! PROBABLY THE BEST THERE IS. DON'T BE LAZY, STUDY, WORK HARD--AND YOUR GRADE WILL SHOW! ORGANIZE YOUR SELF HE USES AWESOME POWERPOINT SLIDES AND THE CLASS IS FUN!
His quiz just 10 seconds for 10 questions
he timed all his quizzes 10 min each and for his test are timed as well if your not a good test taker and need more time on it don't take this teacher. he's all about PowerPoints they can be up to 60 or pages. worst teacher I have had while being here in lonestar.
Professor Smith is truly passionate about history and it shows in his lectures! He is very clear on the grading criteria and the quizzes are a piece of cake. If you take notes on the PowerPoints and watch the lecture videos then you should get an easy A!
The professor gives extremely heavy videos lectures AND 45+ page slideshows. If you're not a fast-pace test/quiz taker, then forget it. EVERYTHING is timed. His grading is beyond me, be prepared for harsh grading on essays. Grades on what you don't have rather than what you do. Do not take if you're an adult with responsibilities.
Makes this class hard for no reason. Expects 210% from you when he puts in the absolute minimum to teach. Each unit consist of multiple 50+ page PowerPoints with extreme detail and minimum lecture videos. Almost feels like he is trying to make you fail rather than help you succeed. I highly recommend not taking him and looking for a better prof.
This professor expected you to learn material from powerpoints each week. I swear one week was like two power points that had like 80 slides each. His tests are hard and he purposely makes them like that and gives very strict time limits on tests. If you arent someone who performs well with free response, this definitely aint the class for you.
When I took 1301 on campus, the class was ok. When we moved online bc covid, that changed. If you're taking 1301 or 1302 online, do NOT take this prof unless history is your strength. "Open-note" test is pointless when you have 1 min per question (and some are not multiple choice!) the powerpoints can be up to 90 slides with soooo much crammed in.
His lectures are very fun to listen to but it gets tiring after a while. (3 major tests, lots of homework & essay). Tests are based on the outlines he gives you. He's not very understanding so you have to work hard to pass. Lecture heavy, tough grader, & talks the whole lecture. Follows the Syllabus religiously and expects a lot from his students.
He posts power points every week and you have to take notes on them based on the outline.NOT A HARD CLASS. The 3 required essays are only 1 page long. Book review is 4-5 pages long. But trust me, he is not a hard grader. The tests are 100% based on the power points, so make sure you actually review/take notes on them.
Dont take him i am sure there is easier and nicer Prof. I completed the assignment and had the receipts of it saying i submitted it but nope his end did not get it so he gave me a 0. you will need to buy TWO books for this class and every test and paper he has is not easy.
His grading made no sense and wasn't helpful whatsoever. When I emailed him asking for help or extra credit, I would get a response saying just do better next time and no help! On the tests very little time must know the material by heart in order to pass. Even then you won't pass the paper he's a strict grader. PLEASE DON'T TAKE HIM YOU WILL FAIL!
I took both 1301 and 1302 online and his passion and humor come through in all of his ppts and "Smithstories". He gives ppts for his lectures, make SURE YOU READ THEM AND TAKE NOTES or you will not pass. Also, utilize the note guides he provides. Seriously, a good majority of exam questions/topics are on there and he adds bonus questions to exams.
LISTEN TO ALL OF THE MORE RECENT RATINGS!!!! He will accuse you of cheating just because you made a decent grade on an assignment/ test. He adds tricks to his tests and will send out an email saying "if you get this right, then I know you cheated." He'll claim to talks things out with you and never will. Then will fail you on all other assignments.
Prof. Smith's lectures are great, however, his grading is beyond tough and he expects you to remember small details in the essays and if you don't you will fail. He will not hesitate to give you a failing grade and expects way too much from students and doesn't recognize that we have lives outside of this class.
Professor Smith is great in the way he teaches but hes a very hard grader and assumes cheating. No study guides, PowerPoints were every posted. So, if you want to pass come to class and write your notes. There are multiple papers, quizzes, 3 exams and a final. I DONT RECOMMEND TAKING.
I really liked him as a professor! I would pay attention to the lectures, take good notes and study.. The tests aren't easy and I would recommend writing goooddd essay prompts. He's a tough grader so you have to put effort into everything you turn in.
Great Instructor!! Really loves the subject makes that passion infectious!!!
DONT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! he will accuse you of cheating just because answers were right and give a 0. This whole semester with him has been a struggle and he is not understanding at all. Everything you learn is based on what's taught in class ONLY. He doesn't post any PowerPoints to help, or study guides.
awsome professor. would highly recommend.
Proffesor Smith is a FUNNY GUY, not the best professor for this class. Took his class and had to Withdraw because he assigns so much work and is a tough grader.
Long detailed lectures, make sure to take lots of notes. I found his humor inappropriate when talking about serious historical matters. There are 2 quizzes based off of 2 assigned books, 6 quizzes that are basically asking for definitions from another book, and 3 exams. Quizzes are easy if you read. Exams are 30-40 M/C q's and essay question
Harsh essay grader. He will feel no remorse giving you like 5 points on the essays. He will purposefully add extra credit points on assignments that will boost your average as less as possible. Save yourself the tears and take another professor.
Prof. Smith has a passion for History, he is very knowledgeable, and his lectures are nonstop. Be ready to take notes, if you are not fast enough get a recorder. The grading criteria, books, deadlines and anything you need to pass is provided the first day of school in the syllabus. You are responsible for the grade you want.
You have notes (pack)& you basically will have to choose what important. The Exam is open notes. But its super hard you have your notes and the notes he provides but you will run out of time. Our final exam wasn't even a minute a question. If you wanted to finish the exam. If you like History and already have a good knowledge this is for you.
Pretty easy class in my opinion. He gives PowerPoints every week, which you are supposed to take notes on, and provides an outline so you know the important parts. There are pretty much weekly vocab quizzes that are ridiculously easy, and the tests are open note. only thing is the extra credit questions are random sometimes. great otherwise.
This is the worst professor I have ever taken in my life
at least 150 slides of notes a week, 3 open note exams but not enough time so you have to know the material VERY well, tough grader, and DO NOT CHEAT because he won't hesitate to give you a 0 if he suspects it. I would recommend watching his SmitHstory videos at 2x speed with captions bc all of the notes take FOREVER to get through, humorous
Very harsh grader, had a lot of homework, was a tough essay grader, and had too many notes to write down.
I took this class for the minimester so I knew about the heavy workload but that wasn't even the issue. He had Rubric for all the essays and just when you think you included everything on that rubric he would come back with a not so good grade and a long list of things missing. He believes it should take about 45 seconds to answer test questions.
If you're taking history just for the credit, choose another professor. There are easier professors out there.
Professor Smith is one of the best professors i've had. His lectures are pretty loaded with information, so be sure to take good notes. Although they are long, his humor and love for history definitely shine through. I would 100% take his class again, just don't cheat.
Professor Smith makes learning about history so incredibly interesting. He is such a funny person too. If you're thinking about missing class, don't. You most likely will not pass. He doesn't require textbooks. He gives you EVERYTHING you need to receive an A. The biggest downside is he is a tough grader. Not sure why there's so many low ratings.
Great Prof. that I took online for History 1302. Just have to read over PowerPoints and watch some short videos that he made. He makes the topics very interesting and has 1 thing due every week. You will have to read 2 books that aren't very long, take 3 tests (final included), write two 1-pg papers, 1 4pg book review, take a quiz almost every week
Professor Alex Smith is so FREAKING AMAZING! By far the best teacher I ever had my whole life so sweet, so caring, so respectful! As far as class goes, no textbook is needed but be prepared to take some "heavier" notes. If you pay attention, YOU WILL BE FINE. He is so good I have my twin brother taking his class next time. 10/10 WOULD RECOMMEND
Do not take this professor!
AMAZING TEACHER!!! Wish I had to take more of his classes!! If you don't like history you will after his class!! Run don't walk to register for his class.
One of the best professors at LSC, he teaches history in an entertaining fun way but super professional. He's super nice and charismatic.
Professor Alex Smith is the toughest I've had. His grading is harsh, and he focuses on every tiny detail, making it impossible to meet expectations. If you want a fair professor, this isn't it. Be ready to stress over every assignment and still get a lower grade. Not recommended unless you like unnecessary pressure.
Do not take this professor if you want to have a normal class. He is a super tough grader and will fail you over the smallest things. He also doesn't listen and will do whatever he wants. Do not take this professor for your own sake!
do Not take this class you will get a big Fail.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. Great lectures but extremely tough grader. Tests are so extremely hard to pass. I could not pass the first 2 tests even tho I studied. I ended up have to withdraw to save my gpa (keep in mind I am an A/B student). Please take someone else and spare yourself the stress.
4/22/25. This professor is the most annoying grader I have ever experienced. You only get 10 minutes on every quiz to answer each question and they're all textbox quizzes. so you have to make sure you've read the books to answer. If you talk about something that wasn't mentioned in a powerpoint he counts it as cheating and gives an F. NO REDEMPTION
