Good guy, class is unorganized, responsibility is heavily on student, your grade is virtually unknown throughout the semester, intresting class
I had him for storytelling. It is a really fun class,i loved finding&telling stories to the other students though i was nervous a first. He is a great guy also.I would take his next class if i could.
Super nice guy, very good teacher, that makes learning fun. I enjoy his class a lot !
did not learn a thing and never went to class and still passed. only two graded assignments for the class but i passed. class was a joke. easy A
he is a cool guy..take it from me im not good in english and passed with a B. he is really understanding and easy going. he might try and scare you on the first day of class but he is an easy A. plus he has a very interesting and fun class. GREAT CHOICE!!
He was awesome! He listens to you and is understanding if you have a conflict with work. He works with you.
Class begain slow and took off. Tying film to historical timelines was interesting. Professor promoted interactive class participation. Writing essays was a bit daunting. Great overall experience. Highly recommend Prof. Andrews.
Best professor I've ever had! He actually makes learning FUN! He has a high level of interest in his students as well. We still talk outside of class sometimes, even though I took his class 3 semesters ago.
Not an easy teacher but you learn alot if put your part in. He makes learning fun!
Mr. Andrews is both very knowledgable and inspirational. His passion for teaching is very contagious and he inspires all of his students to excell in writing. He is a great teacher.
This dude is dope. Mr. Andrews opened my eyes to the atrocities occuring with African Americans during his class. Before entering the class I did not know much about African-Americans in Films, but now I have a good sense about what took place. Prepare to take some notes though.
I love this dude! He is AWESOME! I had him for Humanities as well. He actually tells you how to structure your paper and what quotes to add or refute. He is easy, but you can still learn in his class.
He is just such a nice teacher. Love attending his class. Very helpful and passionate.. seriously I've never had a professor like him before! plus he's hot!
BE PREPARED TO TAKE A BUNCH OF NOTES AND WRITE 20 TO 30 PAGE ESSAYS AND RESEARCH PAPERS S CLASS SEEMS LIKE CLASS IS MADE UP AS GOES
Professor Andrews was a pleasure to have class with. He is geniunly concerned for his students success and has a way to get the best out of his students while maintaining fair grading. He goes a little overboard with Young Goodman Brown, LOL
He is a great instructor but he does give A LOT of work! He has very high expectations of students. He likes to push students to the limit but also cares a lot about you learning and understanding everything. I was happy when I finally finished ENG102
Mr. Andrews tauht me so much about writing that I still use some of his techniques today. I would definately recommend that you take him.
THis teacher was great. He is he style of teacher that makes you think before you start and essay. I did learn alot and would recommend this teacher
Mr. Andrews is a great teacher who makes learning really fun and promotes an interactive classroom. He is definately one of the best English teachers at EMCC.
Alex is an incredible professor. I was so intimidated by writing before this class. Now, I am a writing fool! Taking this course made every class that followed a piece of cake. Now when I have a paper due, it is no big deal. I took Alex in July 2009 and I am so glad I did.
He teaches a hard class... I will probably fail
After my first day in ENG101, my conclusion is that Mr. Andrews is clearly different. He is not a very traditional teacher and he utilizes the Socratic method a lot. He is very philosophical and forces you to think about the world around you. Definitely a different approach to English, but it keeps it fun and interesting.
Alex is definitely a hard teacher. He is very inconsistent. He changes the parameters of papers constantly and his expectations change daily. The workload is tremendous, however, it is a very rewarding feeling to have survived it. If you're thinking about taking his class, it's not easy, but I guarantee you'll feel accomplished by the end.
Mr. Andrews is a great teacher who promotes critical thinking and pushes students to be the best writers they can be.
Summer Session 2012: Some teachers go into teaching to make a difference.. Mr.Andrews is the difference. His teaching impacts lives and he helps students succeed in English as well as in future writing projects. He is a very effective teacher and has positive expectations in his class. His classroom management skills are on target. Great Class!
Mr.Andrews is a good teacher, he respects everyone in the class, and helps students achieve a good grade. He's passionate about the subject and teaches it well. It's not easy but if you follow his guidelines, the class is more easier to pass. I learned a lot in his class and I enjoyed attending. He's a helpful teacher and I recommend his class.
Mr. A is easy on the eyes, always smiling, and has a nice personality. As for his teaching abilities.. well, I am positive that he coined the phrase "write that down"... because he will use it constantly during class. He does not follow his syllabus, nor his own schedule. He does not use any visual aids in class, no text book, nor anything online.
Dr. Andrews is a very nice man. I was in his honors program at EMCC, and he is a very great guy to work for. Just do the work, and the honors credit will be yours!
Has very strict guidelines. follow his instructions to a t and use the writing center. Will help you get better if you take the time to see him outside of class. No text book or anything, but constantly reading short stories.
Doesnt really give a lot of feedback on the essays.
Mr. Andrews is a great teacher who really makes learning English fun.
Mr.Andrews is a great teacher. It takes effort and dedication to receive an A. No text book but we did analyze many short stories. I have become a better writer.
I had Mr.Andrews this past semester & he is awesome! Follow his guidelines & you will pass. All these ppl saying "poor quality" either dont use the writing center or follow his guidelines. You use alot of analyzing & critical rdg skills. Its a great class & he is very effective. I recommend him as a teacher! Awesome class!
Mr. Andrews really loves his job and makes learning to write very fun. I really enjoyed how he did a good job relating the literature we analyzed in class to events happening today.
Mr. Andrews was a great teacher, he got me very interested in writing. It is apparent that he loves teaching. He does give a lot of essay assignments but it is worth it in the end.
Professor Andrews may seem hard at first but he helps guide you to become a better writer. If you do not know how to properly organize your paper he has methods that is clear and very easy to follow. I highly advise to be on top of your game and not procrastinate.
Don't take Andrews if you aren't prepared to write papers on vague standards.
Very understanding and considerate teachers always knows how to help and makes essay topics easy to understand great and resourceful professor very highly praised
If you don’t enjoy writing, do not take his class. Mr. A does not follow his syllabus nor does he grade off of a consistent scale. His papers are very lengthy and his expectations are sky high. It is difficult to earn an A but not impossible. If you're looking for a challenge you've met your match!
Mr.Andrews is a great teacher.. The reason for his strict guidelines is to prepare you for a University. I get "A's" on all my papers after the 1st one I wrote for him. You have to ASK QUESTIONS! Once you get the 1st outline of the 1st paper.. They are all a breeze! He is in charge of the Honors Program, so of course his expectations are high!
Mr. Andrews really pushes you to think critically and to become socially conscious. His expectations are high but when you leave his class all other writing classes will be easy.
ASK QUESTIONS!!!! He is an incredible teacher with a huge interest in helping students in any way he can. Very down to earth teacher passionate about what he does. He will push any student in the direction they need to be pushed in. O and do not forget to ASK QUESTIONS.
Mr. Andrews pressures you to give your best work. Most of his essay topics are very interesting to write up on. There are somewhat a lot of essays but if you follow his layout, then you should have no problem finishing them. I recommend taking his class over the summer.
Mr. Andrews really pushed us this semester. Although I was getting frustrated trying to meet his expectations, I started to realize how much better my writing was becoming throughout the semester. I highly recommend him.
I would not recommend his class unless it's the honors class. I was taking ENG101 which is just an entry level college class. However Mr Alexander is the college Honors Director. The class I was taking was not an honors class but I believe he was grading us at the higher level.
He is such a sweet caring professor!made ENG101 very interesting and something you actually enjoy writing about. Try your hardest to follow the instructions and you will succeed. I was surprised when I was getting all A's in his class.I tried my very best and was hard on myself! Use the writing center they help out a lot! "paint him a picture"
Wow! I learned so much in Mr. Andrews's class. This is not a class where you just sit down and take notes but you are an active participant in discussions and the writing process. He is one of the best teachers at EMCC!!
When Mr. Andrews told us we had to write a 12+ page research paper I freaked out. However, he breaks the research paper up into parts and makes the process manageable a easy. I definitely recommend him
This man loves his job and his passion for teaching makes taking his class fun. His class has made me a much better writer.
Professor Andrews is amazing and has taught me so much about writing. If you want to learn how to write and at the same time you love an interactive class room, he is your man.
Helps construct the format of essays you'll be doing in class. Make sure to use the Writing Center or ask him for help if you want an A! did a lot of reading out loud in class and no assignments during the summer session. I felt like my time could've been utilized better in the classroom, but overall, enjoyed the class. He prepared me for ENG102.
I actually took two classes with Professor Andrews - ENG 102 and African-Americans in Film. He knows the content he is talking about for both classes. He is an incredibly nice teacher and although he doesn't assign too much homework, he does grade it thoroughly.
He was an awesome and super helpful teacher. Although we wrote long essays, He walked us through it step by step, and showed us EXACTLY what he wanted.
Best English teacher i have ever had! He shows you the steps to success when it comes to writing essays.
Alex graded hard, but that is to be expected of an honors class. Alex made sure to outline in depth what he wanted in an essay making it easier to follow the criteria, but marked you for little things. He also added to the criteria throughout the week, making 6 page essays turn into 12+ easily after a correction. Class participation is expected.
Alexander Andrews was a decent teacher, he did show me how to format my papers to a higher level than before. He does not give much feedback on papers, and his schedule for the class can be all over the place. Except, I did like his writing style, it was clean cut and I was actually inspired to succeed academically. Great guy, very inspirational!
I took this class Spring of 2016 and It was the hardest class by far of the semester. Andrews assigns long papers, even longer than my Honors Class papers, expect to write a lot if you want to get the highest grade he gives out A-. I would say you will do well in his class if you are an Honors Student, if not you will struggle.
Love him as a person and as a teacher. Very inspirational and understand when it comes to personal manners that may come up during the class discussions, which by the way are great. I learned a lot from him in how to properly structure certain essays, however, some papers were long but he will help you. For sure a must have teacher
Mr. Andrews is a truly great person and now friend. He wants everyone to succeed and is so willing to help and explain. He is a very busy man because he is a poet and the director of the Honors program so he is a bit scatterbrained, but as long as you aren't afraid to ask for help and keep reminding him of things he will do for you, he will do it!
He a wonderful teacher but he is very strict when it comes to assignments
Mr. Andrews' class was awesome! The techniques he taught made me a much better writer and I also enjoyed his philosophical approach to teaching. I would highly recommend him.
Mr. Andrews' class was awesome! The techniques he taught made me a much better writer and I also enjoyed his philosophical approach to teaching. I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for a great English teacher.
It was a 4 week summer course so there was an essay every week and some were long, HOWEVER, he helps a ton on how to exactly outline and structure the essay so that it's a lot easier. His essays might be long but he doesn't leave you to fend for yourself. Take this professor if you want someone who will give you a challenge BUT will help you.
What I learned about this professor in Honor's ENG 101: 1) He won't remember your name. 2) He will only read the first 2 pages of your paper. 3) He doesn't have a grading plan. He makes it up as he goes. 4) He often does classroom meditation before starting the lesson. 5) He seems to enjoy teaching and is approachable. 6) He is very political.
THE BEST PROFESSOR I EVER HAD. He is very inspirational and gives you a different look on life. He is a very understanding teacher and will let you turn in things late if you talk to him. Mr. Andrews is always in a good mood and loves his job! I wish he taught more classes besides English.
He is so happy all the time! lol. He often has everyone do yoga at beginning of class, usually once a week or more. He is a tough grader initially, however, if you go back and fix what he wrote needed to be he will give you points back if you go up and show it to him. Only negative is when turning in essays he seems to only grade the first page.
BEST PROFESSOR I'VE EVER HAD!!!! I would take his class again, no questions asked. He really cares about his students and would go above and beyond with making sure every student succeeds.
During his summer class, he would start off some days with yoga. The environment was always relaxed and friendly. He did give you good feed back when it came to writing final drafts. Definitely would take a class of his again.
He cares for his student's education and clearly loves to teach. He'll tell you everything he wants to see in your papers and grades fairly.
Mr. Andrews is the LEGEND OF AWESOMENESS because he has a Huge Heart.
BEST TEACHER I'VE EVER HAD! He is so caring and such an inspiration! We would do yoga in his class sometimes and had amazing discussions about stuff that actually matter. He gives good feedback and will be a tough grader sometimes, but in a good way! Thanks mr. Andrews for such a great experience!!
Andrews is one of the best professors Ill probably ever have. He cares about your success and makes class worth while. Be very thorough and thoughtful in your work to get an A.
Kind teacher. Late to most classes. Does not use canvas or textbook. Gives homework, but isn't specific to how/amount he wants, so can lose points easily even with hard work. He does meditation and stretching when could go over English content more, and sometimes lets class out early even when is late to class. Would not take again/recommend.
Doesnt have clear grading criteria. Will tell you to write 4 pages but will mark you down points if its not over 5. Instructions are very vague but he does give good feedback.
Alexander Andrews is one of the best English teachers I have had. Hes caring, wise and motivational. He does not give out too much work but he does have either one of two essays due before the semester ends. Essays are graded heavily due to little class work. Students are given a lot of time to revise and complete their essay before the due date.
Mr. Andrews is a GREAT professor but is very picky on what he expects from his students. He is a tough grader and very rarely gives full credit to the essays. Usually, he starts of the day with stretching/meditation then we jump right into a story. We do not just read the story, we analyze between the lines as well. Overall, highly recommended.
Mr. Andrews is an amazing person and is approachable and kind, but he gives really long essays (some 12+ pages). He works very slow as you analyze almost every word in a story. You may only have two essays by the end, but it's still not easy. I would recommend him if you like writing. I like him as a person, but would not take his class again.
Professor Andrews was an amazing teacher. He did a fantastic job of explaining what he wanted in each of our papers. He conducted great class discussions and made everything fun for everyone. Highly recommend him to anyone looking for an English class.
There really is no structure for this course. He assigns long papers but only grades like the first two pages. Also, I had to see this man's toes everyday. He's a nice guy, but he's almost so nice that it can be frustrating.
Andrews is a great prof. He typically starts the day off with some light stretching to get every body warmed up and get the blood flowing and then he does ice breakers every time we do that as well. Grades heavy on papers due to no homework or assignments. Lots of reading though, definitely would take again.
He basically gave everyone in class an A if you did all his assignments at the end.
I had hoped to learn something in this English class since I planned to major in English, but I was very disappointed. Mr. Andrews cancelled many classes and was late to most of them. He gave very little feedback. When he made it to class, he had us meditate. REALLY? I don't think he took us seriously.
Andrews is a pretty solid choice for ENG102. I truly believe he cares about his students, and wants to see them learn. My only complaint is he can be a tad bit disorganized at times (it seemed like he was teaching a lot of classes that semester), and he does not use Canvas. He may not be for everyone, but if I had to, I would take his class again.
From the first day of the semester, Andrews is one of the few professors Ive met on campus who genuinely seems to love where he is at and what hes doing. Hes bad at names, but a great teacher. Participation is key! No textbook is so you actually sit and learn and take in the criteria he is giving. I would love to take his class again.
He is the best teacher I've ever had at Estrella Mountain! Very chill, amazing, and a cool guy. He isn't good at remembering names though I get it, I suck too plus he teaches a lot of students so it's understandable. I respect him!
This professor is my most favorite professor Ive had. He genuinely cares more about the subject, discussions, and what you learn rather than some strict grading where you work only to pass rather than actually learn. Hes also very understanding and will bend rules slightly if needed. Hes also very respectful and treats all his students as equals
He was very nice but extremely tough grader. I spent a lot of time on my essays - sending them to be reviewed multiple times by different people and still never received full credit for any of my work. Kind of feel like he just picked a grade out of a hat and didnt give much feedback.
Great teacher, response to emails. Most of your grade is essays as long as you know MLA and have good writing and researching skills you should be all set
i love him ! he is such a caring person. really wish he wouldve gave more feedback on assignments/ papers .
i love him hes so nice and understanding. Answers emails quickly. The only con would be that he doesnt give feedback. And because of that its really hard to improve. The best i could do was a B . definitely think i wouldve done better if he had given feedback.
Just had Professor Andrews for the fall semester and I have nothing but good things to say. In the beginning, we did yoga a few times a week. We wrote 3 essays during the entire semester but plenty of time was given. We read stories together as a class and shared many laughs. Gave feedback on every assignment. No online assignments.
Took him for both ENG 101 and 102 and he cares about his students. There are little assignments and mostly focuses on papers. Will make you go to the writing center to have the tutors give feedback but other than that, he is a great professor. Beware to do a lot of class participation, other than that I would take him again if I had the chance to.
He is absolutely amazing, and provides information about helpful resources if needed. He is also great at giving feedback :)
AMAZING! I looked forward to his class everyday. He took the time to get to know his students and explained everything he expected for paper well. He was very understanding if a student couldn't make class or turned in something late. 10/10
Professor Andrews is great, funny, and a very down-to-earth and cool person. Be careful when selecting his class, though. My class had to handwrite 15+ pages (spread out over the entire course), along with a "12+" page research paper that really turned into a 17+ page paper. The workload is heavy but if you do what is asked, you'll pass no problem.
Amazing but his printing job is terrible
Amazing professor; very understanding and helpful, good feedback, comfortable environment. Loved going to his lectures as they were always engaging. Took ENG101 and 102 both really great courses. The work took time but easy to follow, he gave due dates, reminders and more than enough time to complete the assignments. Writing was a bit hard to read.
Professor Andrews is very understanding. I had a really bad semester, and he was very patient and understanding, as long as you communicate, you'll be fine. You do write a lot in his class and your final is a 15+ page research paper but he gives you the entire semester to work on it.
He wouldn't keep track of grading papers, would give you a random grade with no feedback on how you could improve. No extra credit unless you bought his book. Does not use canvas.
Enjoyed my class. I thought overall the class wasn't too hard and I enjoyed a lot of the topics involved. If you check this Mr. Andrews know this you're a great teacher and you made a subject I hate into something enjoyable. Also, no I did not grammar check everything I just wrote.
Professor Andrews is an excellent teacher who creates a comfortable and conducive learning environment. He provides valuable feedback and guidance to help students excel in their writing assignments. His clear instructions and constructive criticism significantly improve students' writing skills.
He was an outgoing professor, made EVERYONE participate so you cant hide. There is no canvas, you need a students number if you miss a day, that's not an excuse on why you didnt do it. You keep track of your grade. A lot of homework but understandable because I was taking a 1 month summer class. Will make you stretch for 10 min every start of class
This class is kind of useless, I'm not too sure what I was supposed to learn. We never discussed writing strategies or anything for that matter. Half the class time was spent stretching and him "grading." He doesn't have a grading rubric for the students and the points he awards you for your papers is basically random. Very funny though. No Canvas!
He's a nice professor and his class was very easy. The final is basically an essay that we work on throughout the entire semester so it isn't stressful just make sure to get the paragraphs done by the due date. One part of the essay is assigned on tuesday, then on thursday we peer review. And that pattern goes on until the semester is done.
Professor Andrews makes a dry subject engaging. His feedback is helpful, and the workload is manageable. unstuckstudy was a game-changer for acing the essays. Overall, a rewarding class worth taking.
I took his summer class and I had a great time. He makes writing fun. For my research paper he taught us new ways of researching which made piecing the essay together a lot easier. Even if you're not a good writer he will help you and he does not give loads of homework which is really nice.
Took Professor Andrews English class for spring 2025. Gotta say his class was very fun, he made class time very interesting. Loved the stretches we did every morning, despite all the note taking we had to do on the stories overall the class was somewhat manageable. I would recommend this professor to any student taking an English class.
Professor Andrews is an amazing English teacher. He's big on peace and creating a calm class, and the yoga he starts with really helps. He's a fair grader, and you will need to visit the Writing Center, so be ready. His class is fun, engaging, and truly worth taking.🙂
This professor is amazing! He is very kind and understanding when you're going through a rough patch. There will be lots of annotation and taking notes, so be prepared and don't do them last minute! He gives out clear instructions. In my opinion, he's a bit of a tough grader.
I have never been so agonized by or hated elephants so violently in my life, it felt like getting hazed. No Canvas. Feet out every morning. Lots annotations. He's nice and understanding, but I would rather sever my limbs than hear the word elephant ever again. I was in hell looking up at heaven waiting to be freed from the shackles called ENG101.
great prof but def will try to make u a novelist. No tests just big writing assignments. Not too much homework assignments but once he assigned one, it was a big load. Super kind and understanding but I got a little annoyed with 24 sentences each paragraph. Definitely turn ur assignments in time and by the instructions STRICTLY. (2pgs MEANS 2 pgs)
