very sweet & very understanding
What could i say aboutprofessor atwood. he really cares about his students. i got upset in class ne day and he called me that night just to make sure i was ok. sadly that in itself does not make a good teacher. he doesn't have control over the class he doesnt inforce the attendance policy and he is very difficult to understand at times.
Hes a really nice professor and i wasnt afraid to ask him questions. If you go to every class, actually do the homework (he assigns it every day and checks) and pay attention youll do fine.
Professor Atwood is a very nice guy. Seems very intelligent, he just doesnt know how to teach. I missed a lot of classes and almost never did the homework and still got a b in the class.
professor atwood is a nice guy but doesnt answer the question that you ask him. Goes off on tangents, very hard to stay interested.
Alex is a very nice person, though he seems a bit jumpy sometimes. He appreciates questions and really wants everyone to do well and understand the material, relating them to real-life problems, not just for passing a math course. Not the most orderly writer on the blackboard, but that is my only complaint besides that class starting at 7:30 am.:)
Professor Atwood is an example of a person who is very intelligent in only one given area, in this case math. He possesses absolutely no other intelligence relating to anything outside Math. He does not know how to write or teach, but he knows how to work his problems.
1 of my better teachers at SCC but not the best.He is friendly & helpful but dorky.U really have 2 listen 2 him when he teachs otherwise its hard to follow he always gives u hw and the test r the same problems f: the hw's.He grades on the hw and particaption.Yet it's Math and it sucks but he's not a bad teacher like some say he is.
Not only is he exceptionally intelligent, he is one of the only prof in the math department you can A) understand (as in, speaking english) and b) actually cares and will take the time to explain a concept (With patience) when you do not understand. He wanted everyone to do well, extremely understanding, good person. one of my very favorite prof
HE IS VERY HELPFUL AND IF U DO ALL THE HW THEN HIS TEST ARE VERY EASY . YOU JUST HAVE TO PAY ATTENTION AND BE FOUCED WHEN HE IS TEACHING . HE IS REALLY GOOD PROFESSOR. I RECOMMEND HIM.
nice teacher but to be honest he messed me up. i was absent a lot, failed all my tests, didn't get my homework done and he GAVE me a B. if you dont need this class and u need a good grade, yea. but i needed this class for calculus and because of the false grade i wasn't able to retake it and have my FA cover it... but yea, nice guy. -_-
Awsome teacher probably one of my favorites hands down. he cares for the students and wants you to learn. hes extremly intellegent and an EXCELLENT teacher i wish he was doing ma88. all you have to do though is hw and he'll pass you, not with an A but he'll pass you. im going to miss him soooo much!!!!!-vincent gamboni
He was a great teacher, smart, funny and cute. He definatley knows how to get a student to understand. But besides that the only reason why i came to class was to see him. Something about him that makes me want him. wink wink;-P
He is the easiest prof. u can ever have. He expains everything and check hw everyday which is way almost everybody get A's. Highly recommended. I get an A. You'll regret if you don't take him.
I definately would say that MA21 was incredibly easy with him..not so much the course..but his take home tests made it almost impossible to get below a C. Such a nice guy and is very understanding
Very nice guy, i was always bad at math but for some reason i Aced his class.Do the HW and participate in class and he will be very generous back.
Awesome teacher. Knows alot about everything. Cannot be stumped. Very thorough.
Atwood is excellent. Im a horrible math student and he makes it so easy, i got a 93 on my last test !!! He is so helpful and very nice, will answer any questions you have at any time. He gives out a review sheet before the exams basically giving you every question on there. If youre looking for a good math prof. TAKE ATWOOD !!!
The best pro in the world... He is such a sweetheart.. Just do your work and understand
this professor is very nice, but he doesnt really explain what he is doing to well. he speeds through equations and expects you to understand it. he isnt a very good teacher, and his tests are very unprofessional and confusing. other than that he is really nice, and is always willing to help you.
Class wasn't that bad, but Alex wasn't expactly that much help. He moves through lessons very quickly, and it is often hard to understand and keep up. Before you get the first lesson, he has already moved on to the next. A lot of tests!!! Doesn't check the homework, but u should so it for your own understanding. Very sweet guy, easy grader.
He's a good teacher.He breaks everything down step by step.Take him.It's an easy A.
No way, I hope no one listens to the negative comments. Atwood is awesome he is extremely helpful and assigns homework that resembles test questions. Do your hw and ask questions and you'll get an A bc he is an easy grader. I got an A.
very good teacher he genuinely cares about you getting a good grade and he is always wiling to help... he sometimes goes into explanation too much but it really helps alot and even though he doesnt use calculators it helps to understand it a whole lot better!
hes a great teacher. he is always there to help you and answer questions. he does tend to go fast, but if you have a question he will take his time to answer it. do the homework because the homework questions are like the tests. easy grader.
Hes an awesome teacher.Hes a bit goofy at times, but his explinations are on a level that even the most education challenged person can understand.I honestly thought it was cute some of the things he did.Great teacher.Take him.Its an easy A if you do the work and yes, in order to pass you always have to study.
The man is boss
Ill be honest. doesnt know how to teach. worked my as.... in this class. still got a C because he wasnt much help. he's confusing. teach problemns weird ways. obligates the student to stay the whole hour when taking a test. the only good thing is that he's a nice man. but doesnt know how to teach.
ok so i don't know what any of you people are talking about this teacher is the worst. he does not know how to teach at all. if you don't understand something he'll do the problem halfway and stop and say do you get it? then five seconds later he says ok good. DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER IF MATH IS NOT YOUR STRONG SUBJECT.
Study your notes and study his favorite word problem questions because 9 times out of ten this is where your test questions will be coming from and will be kicking yourself in the butt for not paying closer attention to detail, no problems here with his teaching abilities finished with a B+ in his summer Pre Cal 2 class
He's super nice. He goes really slow and makes sure everyone knows that he's saying. The curriculum is hard, so you need to do a lot of studying. His tests are hard though. They're like 5 hard questions. But he's cool.
He is terrible! he makes the test five min before class and there only like 3 or 4 questions which is rediculous. He didnt really take attendance but if you miss a class your lost. He gives homerwork every class but doesnt check it. Dont recommend
He is a nice man but he doesnt teach well. You just have to be a good math student to really understand because your pretty much teaching yourself. So if your not a strong math student I would stay away!
TERRIBLE PROFESSOR. He is WAY too smart for his own good. Has no idea how to teach, but has an extremely thorough knowledge of the subject. Just a side note.. he says the phrase "as it turns out" about 50 times a day.. if you take him you'll know what I mean. However, do NOT take this professor.
very knowledgeable man. he is very approachable and helpful. sometimes he goes way too slow though that the class gets boring. i would deff take him again. easy A
The most boring professor. He speaks monotone. It's just difficult to pay any attention. He's way too smart. His explanations just are way detailed that it just goes thru one ear and out the other. His exams are fair, you need to know the material. I'm iffy whether i would take him again.
He is a great professor. He does move fast but is willing to answer your questions and help you understand the work. I dropped the course because I was taking too much at one time. Overall he is a great guy. Reccommend him.
HE was a very sweet guy and wanted his students to do well in the class. The class is very fast paced however so it can be difficult and tests are only around 7 questions so you have to know the material. If you do your homework it counts as 25 % of you test
He is a good professor EXCEPT that he starts the lesson with an example that will be way too intense, rather than building from simpler problems into harder ones as you learn the concept...not a good approach I would think
In all honesty, I feel the class was too easy. He is a goofy guy but very easy going. Tests were very simple. Sadly, I feel like I did not learn what I wanted to in class, but if you're looking for an easy A, this is the guy.
He's not easy, and you HAVE to do the homework (you will fail if you don't...) But he helps you if you ask. Don't expect an easy time, but you will think differently after taking his class.
Be careful about this teacher. There is alot of work and he expects you to really keep up with the class work. If you don't you will have to drop the class or will fail. Overall, he is pretty good.
He is a nice man, but dear god.. as a teacher? forget about it.. This man CANNOT teach to save a life. The entire course consisted of lessons and lectures that made zero sense.. If you want to learn, please stay away from this professor.. you will not learn a stitch of math.
OMg!!!!! Professor Alexander is the best teacher ever. There was anything to deprecate because he was very wise and nice. I think if i have to give an award to a professor at Suffolk Community College it will definitely go to you...God Blessed you and stay wise and Sweet!
professor atwood is a terrible teacher! he is very dry with his lectures and just does the problems on the board and expects you to understand. unless you have a good understanding in the subject, do not take the class!
Professor Atwood is a nice guy, you can tell he really wants his students to understand the material. He will go over things you don't understand in the beginning of class. Lots of homework, tests can be challenging, although if you do the homework he counts it as 25% of your test grade.
Here is one of the best professors I have never had. His notes and explanations were easily to understand. He would spend most of his time to go over things you do not understand.I would describe him as a nice, cool, respectful, and wise Professor. I wish I could have taken more classes with him. God Blessed you Professor Atwood :-)
He is a great professor. At first you'll probably say why the hell you took the class but once you get into it he really puts in a lot of effort to make sure his students know what's going on, he answers all questions thoroughly. It can get boring but it's an easy A if you do the work and study a little. easy grader.
4 tests, all worth 25% of your grade. Do the homework! It will benefit you in the end because on each test, you hand your homework in and it's worth 25% of your test grade. He is very helpful, although very boring, but that's easy enough to handle. I enjoyed the class.
Lectures are long and boring but he explains everything in almost too much detail. Tests are only around 5 questions long, and 25% of the test is based on the homework notebook which he checks over. Overall, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, I'm not good at math but he's really clear and helpful.
Pay attention in class, do the homework, and ask questions - then you will do fine on the exams. There was a lot of homework, but I did learn a lot in the class. Would take again for another class!
Professor Atwood is hands down the best. There are 4 tests, which are your entire grade. There are only 6-7 questions a test and all of the questions are either homework problems or from the textbook. Also, he doesn't check if you actually do the HW. But, make sure you do a lot of HW questions because they will benefit you.
If you come to class, do your homework, and participate in class, you will do well. Run for the hills if you don't want to do any work. I went to his office hours, and he definitely helped me. His exams are VERY similar to the assigned homework problems.
Alex is a real good teacher. He's very helpful and cares about you passing his class. In our calculus class you can see how passionate he is about teaching. I highly recommend taking him. You also don't feel intimidated to ask for help because he encourages it alot, and is easy to talk to.
You have to get used to his style of teaching. He assigns homework that can count to up to 25% on each test so you would be dumb not to do it. Usually spend the whole class going over homework because it is tricky. He wants you to pass and from what I can tell is a generous grader. He's very sweet and a pushover so please respect him!
He spoon feeds you the material to get a good grade on the tests, If you choose not to do the homework than that is your own fault. Sweet man, I would take him again.
If you understand basic math, then this class will be an easy A+, Always takes time to answer questions, good at explaining everything
He is a very fair grader. As long as you do the hw, go to class and study what you dont understand you should be fine. His tests aren't difficult. Go to like and you'll be fine
It's like he is super smart at doing the work but when it comes to explaining it he isn't too good at it. Homework is worth 25% of your grade so do them they aren't too bad. Tests are OK. He tries to make them similar to the the homework. You just have to do your part and study and you will be fine.
Took him for calc 2, amazing professor, not an easy A you gotta be willing to work but he helps you for sure, gives review sheets before test that are really helpful. 4 tests nothing crazy, gives homework but doesnt check it, he goes over the questions in class. do good in the final test and you will get a good grade. would recommend him for mat141
So the way Professor Atwood graded our class was via four exams including the final. each exam was worth 25% of your grade. He gives out homework everyday but you simply have to hand it in on test day to get credit. The homeworks are 25% of each test grade. Do the homework and you'll know enough to pass. Extremely nice and willing to help.
You are in a group so you do a lot of group work. When you ask the teacher if something is right he says " I think so." You can go to his office for help because he will confuse. Don't by the code from the school just buy it online. All you need to get is a binder and paper. Also you can use your phone as a calculator in class and on tests.
This professor Atwood is very dry some of his lessons don't make sense and if you go to the math learning center they don't know what to do. He is very boring. Do the homework because their maybe the same problem on the tests. Try not to fall asleep because of his boring voice. He will tell you "I think so" or " That sounds right."
He's a very nice guy, who knows a lot about Math. The problem tends to come when he is explaining it. I found his office hours to be the best where one on one he is very helpful. Exams were not too bad and he was a pretty easy grader. If you do the homework and ask him to go over the questions you don't understand, it'll be a fairly easy class.
Listen, I'm sure he's a nice guy outside of school in all that but I genuinely don't think it's possible to over complicate things more then this teacher does. Prepare to ask a simple question on homework and get a 20 minute explanation of nuclear fusion and fission somehow. Terrible at explaining things clearly, nice guy though, obviously cares.
Hes a very nice, caring man but just not the best at explaining. If you know what youre doing and have previous knowledge, youll be fine but if not be prepared to cheat your way out of this class. Hes a fairly easy grader. Homework is 25% of your test grade, which helps too.
He's very calm and easy to talk to, he'll try to answer all of your questions inside or outside class. There are four tests and every question on the test is from the homework or review sheet and you gotta put in the work and DO THE HOMEWORK. Don't pay attention to the proofs if ur not a math major. also khan academy helps a lot. i loved him
Hes so caring and so helpful, he will help you pass!!! Just do your homework because he collects all the homeworks before a test and gives you extra points so thats really helpful. He will do anything to boost up your grade, hes awesome.
Great teacher, very evident that he cares about the success of the students. Goes in depth with every question and takes his time to make sure you understand the answer. ASK Q'S!!!!! HW is collected only during the 3 tests you take, but is 25% of those grades. He goes over HW during class, so do it everyday, unless you're busy and can make it up.
If you already struggle with math then get ready to cheat your heart out with this guy as he over-complicates simple questions, gives a bit too much homework, and makes you want to get a tutor. My advice is to relearn the lesson any other way besides learning through this guy because hes literally a talking wall. Highly recommend khan academy!
good professor.. kind of hard to understand certain topics but he tries his hardest to explain what he can.. textbook is free and online, usually gives extra credit assignments after test, gives a review sheet that mirrors each test before, gives 5 points for writing your name on a test and 25 points for doing all homework
he is very bad at explain the material. he's a nice guy just a bad teacher
Professor Atwood is worth taking. He is a little monotone but he does help you as much as possible. He is so caring and cracks little jokes here and there. He does give out a lot of homework but it is so worth doing and he checks them the day of the exam and gives you +15% for doing them. There's about 4 tests and the final. You'll learn a lot!
absolutely amazing professor, he is a perfectionist with his work which I love when it comes to math. very well with explaining material.
Fantastic Professor. Takes his time teaching the material. Is a lot of homework but the homework gives you points towards your test grades. Only 4 tests. Gives out a exact mock review sheet before the test. Each question is exactly on the test just changed (obviously). Highly recommend! Ask questions he will try to explain the topic until you do!
Professor Atwood is one of the most caring professors Ive ever had. For instance, he emailed me once when I missed a class and gave me the homework for what we learned that day. Meanwhile I didnt even tell him I wouldnt be in class! For my own personal reasons and pacing, I had to drop mat141 with him, but I will miss him.
He really cares about his students. Four exams (including final). He'll replace your lowest grade with your final exam grade. Stay on top of homework! It's 25% of each exam. Overall a really great professor. If math isn't your strong point, you might have to teach yourself some of the material out of class, as he can overcomplicate some topics.
I never had him as a professor but as a math tutor in the MLC and Id stop by his office every now and then for extra help. He explains things simply and thoroughly. Hes also very calm and laid back. I wish I had him as a professor. Theres no doubt in my mind he wouldve been the best Math professor at Suffolk had I taken him.
Real time online* Great man, he cares but only if you care. ASK QUESTIONS. He is always willing to explain anything to his students. NO TESTS just HOMEWORK. Used MyMathLab which uses the great "view an example" tool that can help you do the homework( if you dont want to pay attention) Very sweet man, would definitely take again.
He is a great professor!
Quite simply, Professor Atwood was the best professor for math that I ever had. I was that one in class who asked trillions of questions, and he ALWAYS answered the questions to the best of his ability. In addition, he would make sure I had my question answered. If you need to pass, take him. He is simply one of the best.
I took online precalc 1 realtime online class. All you'll need to do is get a good grade on your homeworks. Homeworks were done through mathlab. You have 3 attempts to correct the answers. Do your homeworks and you'll pass with an easy A. Looking forward to take him again if he teach precalc 2 or other calculus classes.
Alexander Atwood was my only math professor that actually helped me learn instead of turn me away. He gives students a little extra time for missed homeworks and really tries to help you learn. His main goal is to get you to understand the unit with very easy and understandable examples. It seems confusing at first but he makes it so much easier.
Professor Atwood is a very caring Professor. He does a lot of power point reading but if you do all the homework and ask for extra help when needed, there is no way not to pass this class. He makes a difficult subject doable. Just do the homework and you will succeed in his class for sure.
i loved this professor. him & his brother tony Atwood believe it or not teaches at Suffolk & he has been teaching at suffolk for more then 7yrs. He makes learning engaging & fun while engaging students in daily scenarios where we would use math or statistics even without us knowing it. He is passionate about teaching & I'd 100% recommend him.
Professor Atwood is truly passionate about teaching and you can tell. The lectures can get a bit dull, but I think that is the nature of the course. His review sheets are very resourceful and his exams are as fair as it gets. Probably one of the best professor's I've had in college overall. Couldn't recommend him enough.
Some people might find the lectures boring but other then that everything is fine
He's extremely easy-going and a light grader. Also, he's genuinely a very nice guy also. I'm happy to have taken him. Unlike many other math professors, he's not condescending in the slightest, and doesn't belittle students for asking for clarification. This is a rare trait amongst math professors, especially those as accomplished as Mr. Atwood is.
Professor Atwood was awesome he makes his class as simple and easy to understand as possible. He sometimes struggles to explain things but he does his best and made this class extremely easy. He gives review sheets before every test and does the work on the board with you. Highly recommend if you struggle with math.
He does anything he can think of to make your life easier. The lectures are clear as crystal. Gives you sample questions before tests that are literally the test questions with different numbers.
I'm a non-traditional student who had taken math/computer science classes at 3 different colleges and universities before SCCC. Prof. Atwood could be the best math professor I have ever had. He is passionate about the subject and genuinely cares about his students. Lectures move right along. He wants you to learn and do well. Tremendous value.
Best professor ever! explains very well and really cares about you. He is also very acessible in his office hours, which really helps. His test are really fair, make sure to review the review sheets he provide :)
he's an amazing professor
He's an amazing teacher. He cares a lot about his students and tries to make everyone understand the material. If you do the homework and show up to class, you'll do great on the tests. He does review and its just like the test. I would 100% take him again.
This professor has saved my grade. He is truly such a great teacher. I could not do math to save my life but he has seriously made this class easier. He is very understanding and an easy grader. i would recommend him to anyone who normally struggles in math. I truly have nothing bad to say about him.
Took him freshman year. He goes by the textbook but when he goes over it in class, he makes it easier to understand so go to class. The class is graded on 3 exams and homework on Cenage for every textbook chapter (25% each). He was very understanding when I asked for an extension for homework's I missed to get a better grade in the class.
Professor Atwood is a passionate instructor who genuinely cares about student learning. Lectures are clear, exams are fair, and review materials are super helpful. Unstuck AI was a lifesaver for exam prep!
Took him for Survey of Math logic/reason for my last semester, this professor truly cares about his students and enjoys what he teaches, he's very laid back, welcoming and is passionate in what he teaches, 100% recommend to those who struggle in math. 20 easy online homework assignments, 3 exams.
Reviews are accurate. I had him last semester and he is truly a good person and professor. He is the best math professor at suffolk, I would strongly recommend him.
