Good class discussions. Passionate but open-minded. Essay tests are hard but the gives you several choices of topics and tells you what the questions will be ahead of time.

Alex is a great teacher, he inspires students to want to learn because of his own passion for the material. He also is quite funny without trying to be.
Prof. Dracobly is great in presenting, making his biases known so that the students can make their own observations, but he needs to keep on task sometimes, and forgets this. However, he has done a good job so far.
Alex is such a passionate professor who engages students and makes them care about the subject matter. I fell behind in class once and he sat in office hours for over an hour going over concepts with me. He cares a lot about how students are doing in class and that makes him a great professor.
Professor Dracobly is awesome. He definitely knows what the hell he is talking about. I never knew industrialization could be so fascinating. He's pretty nice to look at too.
quality... smart guy. likes to be talk quietly, but has a lot to say
I have taken two of his courses, both of which i found to be equally rewarding. his lectures are very entertaining and would sit through anytime, whether it be during school hours or just to listen to on off time. he is very engaging and encourages students to think outside the box.
Take history of war and the modern world from him, no matter what your major is. Great class, great guy.
Draco was... an interesting guy. Sometimes he had me really pulled in to what he was lecturing about and other times i found myself wondering what in gods name he was talking about. He's quircky but all around a really fun professor. I enjoyed his class an

Alex D. deffinately cares about his students, his lectures are very engaging, and they bring the subject of history to another entire level. ive taken more than 1 of his lectures, and found both to be outstanding, i owuldnt recommend anyone stronger for a prof.!
Great professor most of the time. Sometimes I just had to zone out because of the boring subject matter but otherwise very engaging, friendly and an all around great professor.

Good lectures that work with the books well. Has a tendancy to drift during lectures a little but usually he drifts to an interesting subject. He also seems very friendly and easy to approach with questions, concerns, and comments.
Made lectures interesting and easy to follow. The work load was VERY managable. Tells jokes, but not too much, he's actually pretty funny.
Draco was awesome! He is one of the best profs I've had in the history dept. I thought his class were pretty interesting overall, he's really funny and makes alot of random jokes. He's a really aweet and genuine guy who wants hs students to do well. We went above and beyond to help me on one of my papers. Extremely nice, would definitely recommend!
How do you make history of war boring? I have no clue but Prof. Darcolby found the way...he repeats himself a lot and usually sticks to the reading material and thats about it...
Quirky, funny professor. His lectures are easy to follow, and the numerous tangents he goes off on are hilarious and funny anecdotes (he can tell you anything about STDs in modern France!). He is very straight forward about what will be on his tests, and his lectures are a great guide to doing well. Learned a lot and enjoyed the content!
The readings are engaging, and Professor Dracobly breaks them down during lecture very well. His passion for the subject is obvious. Tests, quizzes, and papers all very fair. Your grade will reflect your effort.
His teaching is good and he is a nice, passionate guy. But his material selection was poor... I agree. How did he made history of warfare boring? Oh, and his GTF are the problem. They grade our works, and they focus too much on essay structure and format, instead of the contents. I even doubt that they did read my essay when they were grading.
History of modern warfare does not sound like a fun topic, and with Dracobly it certainly isn't. He's a nice guy, but not that great of a lecturer. HIs ramblings, while entertaining, don't pertain to the subject. By and large, if you are thinking of taking a class by this teacher, I hope you have comfortable seating.
Super sexy! I go to class just to stare at him.
A lively lecturer and comprehensive in his coverage of material. His manner of speech tends to be erudite, and his knowledge is generally comprehensive that it lends the impression of rambling and adds layers of analysis that turn some people off. Sucks for them.
Dracobly is a superb professor and a genuinely nice man, he definitely holds a passion in what he does and is quite quirky as well. A lot of Blackboard quizzes, but if you need help, go to him. His door is always open!
Dracobly is amazing. He's smart and really funny. I can genuinely say that I went to all his classes just because it was always a fun time. I would take any class of his again because he was really knowledgable, really willing to talk to students about anything, and really give great feedback.
THE BEST HISTORY PROFESSOR I'VE EVER HAD!!!!
Great professor took 2 classes went to almost every class they were all consistently interesting and taught very well.
He is a very good lecturer, but I found his soothing voice often lulled me into a gentle sleep.
super smart. but if you're not REALLY in to history, i wouldn't take this class. lot's of politics and his slightly monotonous voice combined with the comfy seats in lillis did not help with paying attention. 2 online assignments, 2 online midterms.
Dracobly is an awesome teacher. The papers and on-line quizzes in this class are easy to complete and get an A on if you do the reading. The tests are a little more tough based on the way they are graded. But show him you are trying hard in the class and he will help you to earn the grade you want. Dracobly is awesome!
The online midterms are really easy but not worth a lot of points. The essays are hard and worth the majority of points. There is a final essay and a final in class test which was really obnoxious because all previous tests had been online and you couldn't just focus on studying because you had to get the 7-10 research paper done.
I love history, especially war history. But Dracobly doesn't explain the assignments well enough. It took me awhile to catch on.
I really enjoyed his class. Make sure you do the reading, or at least show up to every class because the lectures really help put things into perspectives. The exams are usually pretty easy if you pay attention. He's a fun professor and if you get lucky he'll sing Elvis songs randomly every few weeks. He is very passionate about his subject.
It was an awesome class and he is a great professor. Sometimes the lectures seemed to drag on a bit though. Would not suggest for people not interested in history. Expect to actually do work in this class. He assigns a lot of readings but there is not a lot of work to be turned in. We had 2 online essays (8-13 pages long) and an online final.
Dracobly is a great teacher, a little scattered at times, his lectures are very interesting. If you like History definitely take his class.
Alexander Dracobly is the most boring professor I have ever had. I was interested in History until I took his History 302 class. You walk in and immediately half of the students are on their computers not listening, because if you do you will fall asleep. Other than that, the whole class is only worth 100 points so it's relatively easy to pass.
Good professor
I was excited to take "War in the Modern World" and learn about fairly recent events in history until I took the class and realized he considers modern to be from 1750-1900.
This class was boring as hell but pretty easy. There are quite a few papers and tests to take but some of the tests are online. He offers 2 super easy extra credit opportunities and the two combined added an extra 10% to my grade. Attendence isnt necessary because he posts everything online but there are 3 in class assignments. He's a nice teacher.
Great lecture, i'd definitely take another class with him in the future. Posts all his lectures online, and any out of class readings are interesting, usually short, and utilized for midterms/essays
If I had 24 hours left to live I would go to Dracolby's class. Not because I enjoy it but because being in that class for ten minutes feels like an eternity. That being said, I showed up to maybe 1/3 of the classes, didn't check the slides that he posted and I never opened the book and I got an A. I got a boost from extra credit though.
If you are interested in history, taking one of Prof. Dracobly's classes is a must. He has an incredible amount of knowledge about history, and his enthusiasm for the subject makes his lectures very interesting. However, sometimes he can go on tangents which can be confusing. Overall strongly recommended, unless you don't like history.
Mostly short writing assignments, pretty easy grader in that aspect
Be ready for tangents and jokes galore. Lectures are pretty low key though with all power points posted online if you don't pay attention or show up. I didn't show up to about 1/4 of classes and still got an idea of everything happening based on the readings and posted slides. Theres a lot of reading if you need to 100% the class however.
Prof. Dracobly's HIST241 was amazing! He is very knowledgeable and the texts he gives us to read are a bit extensive but essential, so make an effort to read them. Loved this class and recommend it to anyone who is interested in military history!
I've taken 3 classes with him and I've enjoyed every single one. It's very easy to tell that he had a very good understanding on every topic he discusses. Attending lectures is key because he expands on the topics in the textbook, basically gives answers to exams, and gives out extra credit occasionally.
He is extremely boring. He tries to be funny which it is nice sometimes. However, he goes off on tangents that don't relate to topics he will put on tests so beware of what information is important.
Professor Dracobly is the only Professor that I can say has genuinely impacted me in my three years at U of O. His lectures are interesting (if you enjoy history at all) He is extremely knowledgable and an enthusiastic teacher. MY favorite Professor hands down. Might change to a History major because of his classes.
Kinda my favorite. His lectures are easy to follow, and he's chill and approachable. He will sometimes get sidetracked, but his stories are usually interesting and not too long. If you go to office hours be warned that he's super chatty and might take like 45 minutes to answer a question, no joke. Not 100% sure he's not a vampire.
The class was very interesting, and I would definitely take another class from him. He knows his stuff and presents the material very well. There was a lot of reading, but it's a history course, so that's expected. There were no multiple choice tests / assignments, everything was written.
Long lectures, but they're important to understanding the class. I probably opened my textbook three times in the term because he basically gives you tips and a lot of answers to his papers during lectures. There's a lot of papers and online posts you'll have to make, and they require research, so don't put it off. Do those and you'll get a B+, A-
If you love history, maybe take this class. There was at least 2 hours of reading assigned for each class and three unannounced pop quizzes that make up 15% of your total grade. The rest is made up of papers, midterm, and the final. I only got an A because of a GE's help- not the prof's. Dracobly is extremely unhelpful outside of class.
Took his class my first term here and it was a great class. Pretty quirky but it keeps the class interesting. A few big papers, one or two quizzes, and then a midterm and final. Gave extra credit and if you go to class, you'll get the answers to the quizzes. Definitely recommend.
Great guy, funny sense of humor, class requires a good amount of reading in order to do essays. Not cheggable but interesting class if you're interested in War.
I really enjoyed Hist340 with Dr. Dracobly. His GEs were super easy graders and I really enjoyed the material we learned. If the subject doesn't sound interesting the class will probably be boring though as there's a bunch of reading and the lectures can get pretty dense at times.
Nice proffesor
By far my favorite prof so far. Funny guy and loves to chat with his students
Knowledgeable professor, usually easy to get ahold of outside of class. Lectures are dull and course content is far from riveting. Lots of reading but assignments are pretty manageable. Grading criteria for papers is generally not especially clear.
Fantastic Professor, If you can take a class with him do it.
If you go to class and take notes you will do well. Has good grading policies.
Lectures are dull and poorly attended as such. Reasonably easy to get a good grade but lots of work and long, research-intensive papers. Bad technological skills, his Canvas stuff rarely works
He's extremely laid back, very flexible with deadlines, and overall a super nice and chill dude. Assignments are straightforward, workload is light, and the course moves at a very manageable pace despite how intricate some of the topics can be. Lectures are EXTREMELY boring, but I may be biased as I'm not a liberal arts person whatsoever.
H428 - One of the nicest professors. He is not a tough grader, but you have to do the work and understand what you are talking about. As long as you do your best at everything, you will probably get an A or B. The essays are big, so you won't be able to start and finish an essay all in the same day. Very flexible with deadlines.
His lectures are far from exciting, most students skip lectures and fall asleep during his class.
Solid lad
Professor Dracobly was a great introductory professor for my first term at university. The classes themselves have a good amount of reading, but it is possible to skip a few here or there if you pay close attention to his lectures. The class content itself can be boring, but Dracobly's personality, sense of humor, and demeanor make his classes.
Had him for HIST240 and he is an excellent professor. Lectures were not boring to sit through, he very clearly loves what he teaches and is very knowledgeable on the subject. Would take any classes with him!
Class is very easy as long as you turn in your work. Grading is very lenient, and as long as you submit at least something you will probably get an 80 or above. While lectures may drag on and don't matter that much to assignments, professor makes lectures very interesting and cares heavily about his students. Would heavily reccomend this class.
Professor Dracobly was a great teacher. His lectures were always pretty interesting, and kept me going to class even when I didn't need to. For the most part, you could do most of the work without going to class, but the lectures provided good background knowledge that made writing the papers and taking the quizzes easier. Amazing professor.
Great professor! He gives great feedback and structured the class around a 12 page essay as the final. He's lighthearted and funny but you also feel like you learn a lot in his class. He loves getting to know his students as much as he can and is really easy to work with! Can't recommend him enough!
Prof. Dracobly has been my favorite professor so far at the UO. He is an engaging, dynamic lecturer. He is also kind and understanding if you turn something in late or need some other sort of accommodation. He assigns a lot of reading, but he's pretty chill if you don't do it; however, you should, because it really adds to the class experience!
Long lectures daily however he finds a way to make them interesting and cracks jokes to keep it light. Quite a few papers but nothing too hard to accomplish if you keep up with the class. You can get by if you don't show up as long as you read but if you aren't much a reader you could probably get through the class by just showing up for lectures.
Best professor at UO hands down. Funny, incredibly knowledgeable, loves what he does.
He is an amazing professor, his lectures are engaging and entertaining. He answers questions to the best of his abilities and is very open with his level of knowledge about the course material. Best professor here at UO and the best history teacher I've ever hat. He gives so much info in the lectures that the long papers can write themselves.
10/10 class and a great lecturer. He offered online lecture videos for 340 so if you missed class you could get the gist of it pretty easily from home. The class is structured such that you move through history pretty quickly but the lectures are engaging and all weekly homework assignments are low stakes. Would take another class with him again.
Such a wacky guy. Loved his class
Easy class. The GEs are looking for a very specific style of writing for your papers, so don't make the mistake I did and take some artistic liberties on the first paper. Follow the rubrics to a tee and you'll walk out with an A almost guaranteed.
The lectures were usually just giving more details on whatever the reading was, and doing the readings is crucial to understanding the course material. Tests are easy, quizzes were frustrating sometimes but you can retake them, and the essays are graded pretty leniently.
Professor Dracobly is my favorite history professor. Hist 340 was very engaging, and I loved his random stories. The class itself was not very challenging, so long as you did the readings and put good effort into the essay. Would 10000000% recommend taking a class from him.
Prof. Dracobly is a very passionate teacher. His class has weekly quizzes you can take twice, a midterm which involves essays, a research paper, and a final. most of the homework is reading before class usually for an hour or more. If you are not a history major and don't need this class, I wouldn't recommend. It is too much work for an elective.
Talks in a fairly engaging manner. Digresses with fun facts. Structures in essay preparation such as research proposal and proper citation methods so don't worry if you're not a history major. Responds to emails very fast and generally accessible outside of class.
I can't say enough good things about Dracobly. I've also had him for Historian's Craft and US Military History. He's a great lecturer who knows his material like the back of his hand. The essay prompts are insightful and thought-provoking and he's a fair grader. He clearly cares about his students and will help if you ask for it
His history department award is completely well deserved. His lectures are engaging and demonstrate why history is relevant to us today. He's consistently in his office during office hours so he's very accessible about both class and more. There are NO costs to attend. Cares about learning by making grades fairly easy.
Great professor - tough class, but amazing and funny professor. Very knowledgable about the subject and cannot respect him more.
Very knowledgeable about the subject. The lectures become repetitive and what would seem to be an interesting subject, becomes somewhat boring due to the focus of logistical and operational issues of warfare rather than the battles themselves. The class isn't too challenging but be prepared to do some research on your own.
I have taken multiple classes with Dracobly and received As in all of them. A very knowledgeable professor with a great sense of humor. He never seems bored or overworked and has a lively attitude in lecture. Classes are not difficult if you enjoy the reading assignments and can write a decent essay.
Best history professor at UO
Taken two classes with him so far. Incredibly easy to get an A in his classes and makes the material engaging and easy to understand. I would recommend having a baseline interest in military history and battle tactics however as that is the main focus of the lectures.
Professor Dracobly is such a caring and knolwedgeable professor! The class is comprised of lectures, quizzes, essays and exams. The readings are a lot, but he has online videos that help out a ton. As long as you go to class and take notes, youll be fine! He is very kind and easy to communicate with as well, which helps a lot.
Super Super Super easy class, if you do the work, you'll get an A
Wonderful lectures that are never boring and get the point across very well. Never felt dragging or dull and was very helpful and passionate with any questions during office hours or after class
Dracobly is a fantastic lecturer and this class is the best I've taken at UO. While the reading quantity is a lot, attending lecture makes you genuinely want to engage better with the text. You don't get tested on readings, but keeping up with the content is very important for essays. Very few assignments, but extremely informative and detailed.
Love him. He is a great lecturer and made me glad I went to class even if I wasn't feeling like it that day. There is definitely a lot of reading but overall the class is really interesting if you are genuinely interested in war history. He's also pretty funny
Highly entertaining lectures, very entertaining. I recommend taking any class you can find with Professor Dracobly.
Excellent professor, class was always entertaining. I found that the lectures were more helpful for tests/essays than the readings, as those are covered in class anyways. Very solid introduction course.
