Worst professor ever. If you like failing, take this class.
he was unclear w/ what he wanted. I got a 'C' and he's evil
No Comments
hard class nto made any easier by horrible prof
He is the worst ever. He gives the hardest tests andthere is no curve
I went the first day out of curiousity... He said he would run his class different than the others by giving theory in class which isn't in the text book. He was creepy and wore rubber surgical gloves in class. I dropped it.
Seems like a very learned person; very fair and generous in grading midterms
To the person in Math 151: Wait untill you take Dynin's Final and get your grade. Then you'll find out that your going to get the short end of the stick for lack of more appropriate termonology
He knows his stuff, but makes it impossible for the students to learn. His tests are the hardet, no curve, absolutely no help from him. Avoid him if possible.
Absolutely the worst professor in my three years at OSU. Can't understand his voice, barely understand his scratch on the chalkboard. Exams are brutal and do not reflect what textbook gives you for homework assignments. Avoid him at all cost!
As has been said before, he's obviously very learned, but understanding his accent, which is incredibly thick in and of itself, it made even harder by the fact that he always speaks with his back to the class. Terrible, terrible instructor.
I think his name before coming to America was Himler or Geobbels, if you get what I'm saying. Incredibly difficult. All theory.Run run away!
One of the worst math classes I've had, which is saying a lot considering how bad the math department is here.
GET OUT NOW!!! Absolutely the worst professor I have ever had. No curve, horrible teaching, does not follow the book. You cannot understand him, he is really creepy, and the tests are BRUTAL. Like I said, AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!!!!!
You won't get the short end of the stick in his class - you'll get reamed with the long end
RUN!!! NOW!!! Sure you can use your notes/textbook on the exams, but doesn't help much since his exams our based on his own theories!
Heed my warning and DROP IT NOW! Even with notes, the midterm class averages were 63, 52, 42. If you decide to take the class, you better throw away your textbook and tape record the lectures because it's all HIS theory. PS: he wears a creepy rubber glove
This communist still thinks the cold war is going on. He enjoys writing tests and conducting lectures that are udderly confusing. Don't waste your time buying the book either, you don't use it, and according to him it is all wrong anyway.
You registered for math 254 but you will get math 999. If I were you and I had to take this class, live in the TA's office. I.E. Martin Nikolov. He is an excellent remedy to Dr. Dynin's disorganized unorthodox methods.
Why does OSU keep a person like him - good for research but not as a teacher. Come one OSU, shape up!
hes not a good teacher.
This guy really sucked as a professor. I couldn't even stand to look at him after his first lecture because I disliked him soooo much. He shouldn't be allowed to teach math at OSU. He teaches based on his own theory and his exams are horrible.
Okay kiddos: Avoid anyone who starts their first lecture with one rubber glove on and the line "I'm here to shock you.". He did this the first lecture, and I ran out after that, opting for another section. I kid you not, save yourself (and your
you cant understand a word he says
RUN FOR YOUR GRADES!!!
You better be ready to work your ass off....
A horrible professor. Does not curve the class even if the class average is failing. He is very unclear with his thick Russian accent and unorganized lectures. Does not give a **** for the students. Worst professor ever!!!

I can't understand a word he says - way too theoretical, too many pictures, not enough examples with numbers like you're supposed to use in math

He thinks this class is Math 366! Don't take his course.
Worst Professor ever, his writing is barely legible absolutely know curves and he teaches only theory no examples at all.

He is by far the worst professor on campus. He mumbles and only never does an numerical examples. I feel bad for anyone who has had him or is going to have him in the future. He's been teaching for 43 years and his ass needs to retire
Pray that you have a good TA. I went to lecture 3 times, all for exam reviews, because lecture was a waste; I couldn't understand him. I crammed for the midterms and final and got an A but he doesn't curve, make sure to make study sheets that have all of the theorems on there.
Worst professor I've ever had. Avoid taking this class with him! He mumbles to the board and can't teach. Beware- there is no curve.
what can i say
i think it is a deliberate act of malice on the part of the math department to put their worst professor (and possibly history's worst math professor) in such a monster of a course.
I got mad for this teacher, but he is helpful if you visit him so I could get A-.
This guy is something else... beware of the glove... he is hard... his tests are hard but not impossible... he is hard to understand... but it isn't impossible... i studied and got an A- (i got a C+ in 153 so im not like a brainer either) it is worth working through. good luck!
only bad grade i ever received!
Don't be fooled by his syllabus. You know, the part where he has that email from the former student telling him how great he is. This guy is a nutjob. "Dr. Strangeglove" should be avoided if at all possible. Unless of course you enjoy not being able to understand your incredibly angry prof.
This guy is terrible. He teached theory that I swear he makes up. The way to get through the class is have an awesome TA and make incredible study sheets that you can take with you to the tests. Even then, there may be no hope.
This guy is a total frickin nut job!! He is all about the theory and you practically have to write write a novel explaining the theory on the midterms. I got a D+, its the worst grade i have gotten. AVOID AT ALL COST!!!
im a good math student, got an a- in 152 b+ in 153 and had to drop this class in the 7th week b/c i was gonna get like a c-. this guy is the worst teacher ive ever had, he doesnt care at all about you learning, he wont give reviews sessions either...ive wasted 3 hrs of my life just arguing w/ him
challenging, but a really great teacher
Impossible to understand, mumbles into the chalkboard, never know quite what he wants, test material not from class notes...hated his class :(
Worst Prof. Ever
This class was the hardest that I have ever taken, not b/c of the material, but because Professor Dynin made it hard. I'm a good student, I study hard, and have an A- GPA, but received a C in his class after hours of studying, and I think I got lucky. AVOID THIS PROFESSOR AT ALL COSTS!!!
The guy ****ing sucks
Very possibly the worst math professor I have ever had. You cannot understand a word he says because of the accent and he mumbles into the chalkboard. Tests are much more difficult than the material presented through homework, lectures, and recitation. If you must have him as your prof I wish you luck, you will definately need it.
If you find yourself in his class transfer out as soon as possible.
I had all the mid-terms and still got a C
Mumbles a heavy accent into the chalkboard. Extremely hard exams. Be Afraid!
You cannot understand this guy and he is probably the toughest professor I have ever had....Only plus was that the class was curved and a 60 or above got you at least a C....Trust me, you WILL need the curve....No average during the three midterms was above a 60
One of the scariest people I have ever seen. When he starts yelling at the class in Russian it gets even scarier.
WOOHLLL- Right
Not as difficult as most people say, honestly - yes, the Russian accent can be hard to understand at times, but it's still math. The good curve and being able to use class notes on exams is nice, and the pace is rather easy, about 1 chapter per 3 weeks. If you're not great at math, he may not be the best professor but certainly not the hardest.
not helpful, hard to understand, teaches to the board, very unreachable.
Ridiculous, does not use the book, teaches the board, cant hear him, does not like his job, hates people who ask questions. if you have him, drop the class.

Worst professor I've ever had. DROP HIS CLASS BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE!
What a joke. I heard stories... but I didn't believe it. I dropped before 3rd week because I wasn't going to let this **** make me get a "W". He gets mad when you answer questions, and he screws up on his notes A LOT. Then he thinks you are making fun of him when you ask him about his mistakes. Don't take him, or drop IMMEDIATELY!
Worst Math professor I have ever had. Can not understand his writing or his speaking. Exams are impossible. Getting a good grade is impossible. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!
The course itself is not that hard, but the professor makes it impossible. Be prepared for theory and no numerical examples. The exams are not completely impossible, but close to it. If you get this professor, drop the class or switch imediately!
Absolutely horrible teacher and person. Gets offended if you ask questions because he is so bad at speaking the english language. GET OUT WHILE YOU STILL CAN. Even with the curve it is nearly impossible to get a decent grade. My class average was probably a 60% C.
If you like failing this is the class for you. No one can understand what he says and the average on our final exam was a 37. He does let you use any notes/HW/Book but it doesn't matter because the tests come from his own theory and do not match the book or homework. Does not curve! Exams are impossible! Not helpful during/after class! DROP NOW!
It's an atrocity that this guy is a teacher after all these years. Has some kind of crazy vendetta against the book, despite the fact that you can't understand anything he says unless he's screaming at you. The worst professor I've ever had, refuses to write anything but theoretical examples on the board.
It was hard to understand both his speaking and writing, and he made a significant amount of mistakes during lectures and on exams. The exams were based on his lectures and you can use your notes. I thought he was helpful in office hours if you are patient and I never got the vibe that he was a mean person.
TERRIBLE! Thank god I dropped him. He talks to himself and not to the class. He can't write. He can't speak. Drop immediately. I'm surprised he is allowed to teach at OSU.
Arguably he has one of the most lenient grading policies I've encountered. That said, he is an awful lecturer, prone to mistakes and lack of clarity, and he makes really difficult exam questions.
Drop NOW. Don't think just do it. Even if it costs you an extra year at Ohio State. He is a TERRIBLE teacher. He is useless in class and he tests are incomprehensible. Go to the dept. chair and ask him to put you in a different lecture or don't take the class if your don't want to destroy your GPA.
Dr. Dynin is a fine fellow and clearly a brilliant mathematician, but has substantial flaws as an instructor. Expect to learn the material thoroughly, but note that the his exams are excruciatingly difficult and will not correspond in difficulty to either lecture or homework problems. Notes allowed on exams, but not useful. Do not expect an A.
Prof. Dynin is a brilliant mathematician. He is also, however, incredibly hard to learn from. His writing is illegible and if he speaks loudly enough for anyone to hear him, his words are incomprehensible. Expect to spend plenty of time outside of class reading the (wonderful) book. Open-note tests are 100% theory (some not in the book) and proofs.
He is the worst professor I have even had in my life. The level in exam and homeworks does not much(exams are way harder!). He allows open note during mid term and open book and note during final, but does not really help. You will find some problems that you have never seen in either in book or lecture. Do not recommend anyone to take this class!
His lectures are really helpful if you really pay attention in class, although he has a very strong accent. Besides, his exams are really hard (I just got 61 in the 3rd midterm and I got the second highest score). Anyway, in his MATH 513, 80 percent is an A, why not do it?
Nothing good to say about this prof. I met with him during his office hours, he gave me 15 minutes to ask my questions, there was no appointment after either. He doesn't enjoy his job, he seems to dislike answering questions and when he does, they are extremely difficult to decipher through his accent and 'theory'.
The very first thing he said, day one, was that his lectures wouldn't be following the book. He expected us to do all the homework and reading prior to class. If we're supposed to teach ourselves how do the work before lecture, what is the point of lecture? And when the test material has nothing to do with lecture or the book...
Just drop, you cannot understand anything he says. He teaches with his back to the class and mumbles. He laughs at the class when someone asks to do an example. No one passes his class. Save yourself the trouble and drop or don't even take his class. other classes average 90 or above on tests and his class it is around 40
Not helpful at all and he says that you are supposed to read the book and do homework BEFORE his class to prepare for the upcoming lecture. Whew, good luck to anyone taking this... He also tells you the first day that he does not use numbers and also says that you will not get an 'A' in the class. He talks to the board and not the class.
Drop him while you can. You honestly cannot understand anything he says. He doesn't follow the book, he does it his own way and if you don't do it his way, you are wrong. I learned from the book and got a 26 on my first midterm because I did not do it his way. I dropped because i did not want to fail and screw my GPA.
Nice guy but, has a heavy accent, speaks very softly, makes mistakes on white board, has a hard time understanding where the mistakes are when you ask him about them (usually starts explaining something else until someone goes up and points it out), difficult tests on theory (so you better understand everything), and does not curve.
Only take this class if you want to a thorough understanding of linear algebra. You will have to work harder and most likely not receive the grade you like by the end. I enjoyed the class, so I recommend it if you go into for the learning opportunity. I absolutely do not recommend it, if your looking to just get by, because you wont.
Dynin has a very heavy accent and is hard to understand. He doesn't explain the material well and often confuses English words with something non-English.
Cannot bear this class anymore. I took every note from the blackboard and read them again and again. Got no clue even when I highly concentrate. I immediately dropped this class after 2 weeks. I don't know if another professor would be good. But know won't be worse and I may have chance holding the high GPA
Without a doubt the worst professor that I have ever had. We started the class with ~55 students and ended with ~20. He hardly ever did examples in class, he spoke quietly and faced the blackboard, he did not explain many of the topics well, and he skipped entire sections of material on midterm review days.
Aweful. Stay away.
