Absolutely the best teacher in the Chemistry Department!!!
hes really quiet and hard to understand sometimes. he gets things confused as well and then quizzes you on it, expect many quizzes. midterm and final are hard.
Hard to understand what he is saying. He barely teaches in class and then gives impossible pop quizzes. Mid-Term and Final are hard.
His class is a little tough. A strong chem backgroound (AP Chem) makes the class much easier. The language barrier can be a little rough at times. sit close to the front and watch hand motions and lip read. he really wants to see his students do well.
had a really hard time in his class...wished he worked more practical problems...his exams made me want to jump oof the top floor of the parking deck......................
Doesn't do any practice problems, yet quizzes you on them...
Absolutely Horrible, can't talk english. Doesn't help you out at all. Office hours are a joke cuz he reminds you to read the book n' leave. Smart dude but seriously WTF.
Extremely horrible... Plz don't take him if you don't have too..
See I thought MALOY was bad... and then... any innocence left in my soul dissipated. Think Maloy was bad? Try this bast. Well anyway, i switched out... WOOT. I didn't pay 30k for THIS. If I wanted a stress trip, i would've gone to Iraq.
I thought he was cool, even though he had an accent. I did well in the class. He does a huge curve in the end of the semister, so don't stress over it too much because the curve helps you a lot! This would be the last of the curving that you'll see if you Pre-Med major...
I'd rather roll naked in broken glass than take his class. He refuses to do problems on the board because he "would rather have you do it yourself." Homework and exams are extremely difficult and you will find no reference material to help you with the problems. If this class is manditory for you, change your major or pray to God that you pass.
easiest teacher for chem. i never went to class and just read the book. and for the people that did go to class he gives them exactly what he puts on the quizes and tests. easy A
first D i have ever got in my life...you cant understand the man the avg grade on the midterm was a 35 and on the final was a 27.the only way u can do well in this class is if you do well on all the quizzes.where i made my mistake was i got above avg on midterm and final but did really badly on the quizzes.i hope he goes back to RUSSIA soon
It's been a couple of years since I took him and I can still say that this class is awful. Avoid it if possible. Take it during the summer if you must. There was no "huge curve" in the end.
Dr. Fadeev was ok. Not the best professor Ive had but still he taught everything straight from the book and there is only a midterm and a final and a few random quizzes. He tends to be a little more conceptual. Most people did't enjoy the class but i thought it was pretty good, boring at times tho. All in all there is a massive curve in the end.
Unless you are positive you can teach yourself the material do not take him. I just graduated and in all my years at SHU I must say this man is the least helpful teacher. He also has his TA's ruthlessly grade all quizzes and tests. I seriously advize anybody debating taking him for CHEM II to take Cosimo Antonacci or Wyatt Murphy during summer.
Worst professor I've ever had in my life. He showed no concern for the fact half of his class was failing by the final and when I asked him during class to give us example problems, he told me no in front of them and said to provide my own questions for him to answer - as if those questions would even be on his test when you've read 20 chapters.
terrible terrible. you cant understand him. he can't even understand you when you ask questions. he doesn't do examples. hes not approachable.
Worst professor I've ever had. I asked him to give example problems before the final because the midterm was so difficult. He asked me to come up with the questions - as if those would be the ones that he wanted us to know for the exam. His lectures were boring and he had a bad attitude. I approached him for help and his advice was ambiguous.
DO NOT RECOMMEND AT ALL! He uses powerpoints that are not even HIS OWN. We can access it using mastering chem. He doesn't teach anything. Doesn't check attendance. Not helpful at all. Quizzes, Midterm & Final are online, so many questions and only 45 mins to complete. Homework is online. HE basically uses everything on masteringchem. Don't take him
Everything is online. If you're down with failing all your tests but having a massive curve then pick this fella right here.
HORRIBLE. The most unfair, unreasonable professor I have ever had. He uses mastering chemistry (which you have to buy) for all exams and homework assignments. Clearly did not care about his students at all. His class was a total joke - no one came and you gained nothing from attending. STAY FAR FAR AWAY.
Did not matter if you showed up or not. Could not understand what he was saying. Must teach yourself.
Fadeev has gotten better with teaching as the years went by. To be honest I like his teaching method, but the class just did not want to participate when he would ask questions. He also tries to give you as much partial credit as possible to get you a decent grade, plus he curves. Overall, I think I would take him again.
This man so good at teaching. He Russian.
Best Porfessor I ever took. I had to drop the class, it was so fun in his class I couldn't handle it.
Whoever put the 5 stars is literally lying. Worst professor ever. Got a 33% on the first exam and that was not an unusual grade. People got 20s and 30s and 40s. He is a bad teacher, no partial credit because exams are online in class. Very difficult to understand. AVOID FADEEV
He is the worst professor ever... I am literally stuck deciding whether to withdraw from the class or not.
Do not take this class if you are not the type to be able to teach yourself. Fadeev exclusively uses slides created by the company that produces the textbook which is offered through Mastering Chem. His lectures are dry and don't offer any additional information that couldn't be understood from just reading the textbook. Don't take his class.
He is the worst professor I ever had. he has no idea how to teach. All the tests and home works are online. Never helps outside class, never replies to emails too. He does not care about students. Avoid him, it was my biggest mistake to take his class.
DON'T TAKE HIM. You'll need to teach yourself everything. By the end of the semester a lot of people were just chegging the exams because otherwise there was no way to do well, which didn't help what little curve there was. Avoid at all costs. Exams are open notes, but they were still so hard and way too long for the time given.
THERE WAS NO END CURVE!!! Literally everyone got solid 60s. Nobody shows up to class because it has no benefit. Open notes tests, but you still can't get a B- on an exam. Didn't even show up for our final. Asks, but doesn't listen to students feedback
he does not care about the student. Believe me when I say he is the worst teacher I ever encountered, never replies to any email, all exams are online and are really tough. avoid him.
Everything (homework, tests, exam) was done on mastering chemistry. This was bad in that it led for no partial credit on anything. But Prof. Fadeev was willing to work with the class in making the exams less computational and more concept based as his lectures do not include much math. You must be willing to read and practice on your own.
Worst professor at Seton Hall according to faculty. Doesn't care about his students. Tests are ridiculously difficult, he flies through the material, he wings his lectures, weak curve, you must teach yourself everything and it still won't help. AVOID HIM AT ALL COSTS. Take this class a different semester if it means not having Fadeev.
Next to Calc II, this is the hardest class that I have taken in my undergraduate studies. Dr. Fadeev knows that the class is very difficult for his students, but that doesn't change the difficulty of the tests. If you aren't a chem or biochem major, do not take this class, it'll just bring down your GPA.
Prof. Fadeev was a fantastic chemistry professor. Read over his powerpoints, do his practice problems and do his hw and you will do great on tests. Tests are very similar to the HW and he gives extra credit if you answer problems during class. His lectures can be boring and the HW is not a lot even though it is sometimes very time consuming
It hasn't even been a full semester & I can confidently say Fadeeev is the worst prof. He just reads off the slides, can't answer your basic questions, exams & hw are all online. The powerpoints aren't even his own. Doesn't provide more information than what's on the slide. Waste of time. You're paying just to fail. AVOID AT ANY COST POSSIBLE!
Professor Fadeev was the hardest part of my freshman year. He taught remotely from his office in the school. I'm pretty sure his teaching motto is "throw them in the water and hope they swim". He gave little help/feedback and taught nothing in class that was on the tests or homework. Very hard to do well in this class unless you're good at chem.
Dr. Fadeev reads off of his slides so it's not even necessary to show up for lectures even though it's expected of you. His homework assignments are assigned before we complete the unit. Every question is only worth 1 point and you get 5% off every time you get it wrong. You only have 3 attempts. He doesn't really stop for long questions either!
The type of professor to do no more than read off the slides, which are already extremely bare and uninformative. His idea of "helping" students is simply asking why until they give up. Material never covered in class shows up on every test. Easily the worst teacher I've had the displeasure of meeting over the course of my academic career.
His syllabus says to ask questions if unsure of anything but when you do he never answers properly or will tell you he has no time to answer. Whether you show up or not for lectures it doesn't make a difference. I don't need to pay for someone to read off slides, I learned better from Youtube videos and it still wasn't enough sometimes
I would never wish for anyone to take this class. Somehow I went from being a straight-A student to getting nearly a 0 on the last exam even when studying for 2 weeks straight. Everything everyone is saying is correct, just save yourself and don't take him. Unless you've taken this class before and know it, it's just going to drop your GPA.
Let me set the scene for you... you walk into chem class and see Prof. Fadeev's face on the board, virtually attending, but you're required to show up in person with no virtual option. Lectures have nothing to do with test material, first exam gives false hope, and no curves... EVER. Most of the class would receive below a 70 on exams. AVOID.
Don't take him, just don't. He's not understanding and even passive aggressive/mean in his lectures. He can make you feel uneducated. His exams are nothing like his lecture examples or homework. Most of the class bombed them. He taught through a screen on teams, while we sat in the room and struggled to follow along. Just terrible.
the only upside is that a 55+ counts as passing but that should show u how many ppl had to fail before he lowered his failing grade. he does absolutely nothing, his hw and exams are automatically graded on smartworks and the textbook doesn't help.
I have genuinely never taken a course with a worse professor. The lab TA, Johnathan, was fantastic, but Dr. Fadeev's exams were awful and graded so harshly. We had three main exams, a final, and our lab score. He said that he offered extra credit for answering questions, but there was less than one question per lecture for the entire class.
Throughout my freshmen year, I've never had anything stress me out as much as this class. He was always virtual while the class was stuck in person and he reads off slides every single class. I don't think I've ever disliked a professor till now and word of advice try to avoid this class at all costs
worst professor ever!!! He doesn't teach, he juts reads off a powerpoint. Instaed of helping his students he makes them feel stupid for asking a question. His class was online but yet he was in the building. Fadeev doesnt help and or explain material clearly. There are better chem professor's. Do not choose him.
Sucks that in my first semester I had to go through this much stress for this class. I've learned more from videos and teaching myself rather than have him teach me. If i would go back I would have switched to another gen chem class.
Do not take unless you want to teahc yourself the lectures. He doesn't do anything but read off his powerpoint and call it a day.
Professor Fadeev is the worst professor I have ever taken. We had 4 tests, 4 homework, and a final exam. Professor Fadeev was virtual while all his students were in-person. I could not understand him. He drops the lowest; however, he does not give any extra credit or projects to raise your grade. He does not care about his students AT ALL!
He expects students to have his understanding of chemistry from day 1. He is incapable of elaborating on topics or answering questions. He was on a zoom call while we were in the lecture hall. He would tell us to study one thing and test on stuff barely mentioned. SI sessions would be filled to capacity because he does not teach. He reads verbatim.
Dr. Fadeev is really horrible. It is quite apparent that he does not care about his students. We all had to show up in person, while he called in through Teams. I am convinced he did this so he could get away with doing less work. I only did well because I consistently studied and got tutoring. You will only pass if you put in the effort.
Worst class ever. Be prepared to work
how is he even still teaching. literally the worst. he doesnt teach and you can't understand him due to his accient. he also just reads off his powerpoint. everyone in class used chegg to cheat and he didn't even realize. during the tests, the ta only caught a few. he didnt even curve either. the worst!!
Your worst option to take gen chem 1 with! You will have to work hard to get a passing grade. He is not very helpful, he doesnt care about his student nor about your grade.
Honestly, the worst doesn't teach and only reads off slides. He is a horrible person and could care less about the student. Honestly, it makes you hate them. You will fail get out, please.
Rude professor. Had him when he was online and students were in person. Does not care about students. Watched my friends fail & drop out. I was in a car accident and he still made me take the exam.
He basically just reads off of the lecture slides and you can barely understand what he is saying. I tried asking for help and he either 1) never answered my question, 2) never responded to any of my emails. He gives homework based off of things we haven't learned yet and you basically have to teach yourself chemistry.
Absolutely the WORST. During lectures, all he does is go over the slides with little to no explanation and even if he does, you can't understand him. Smartwork is due while we're still going over the materials on the unit. Does not care about his students or how you do. The only way you pass the class is learn Chemistry on your own and SI sessions.
READ THE TEXTBOOK AND DO THE QUESTIONS AT THE END OF THE CHAPTER. He takes questions from the back of the book for tests. Tests are only 10 questions so its crucial you do well on them. Answer questions during lecture, you get extra credit. He is available for office hours, but make sure you know what youre talking about when you go. Attend SI!
Ik there is alot of bad reviews but as long as you study the slides you are fine. More of self taught course but always go to SI it helps. Also there are 6 exams and one gets dropped so as long as you try, you can get it up. Also extra credit!!!!! But if you cant self study I would not recommend
He is a little intimidating but he's not as bad as people make him out to be. He does read pretty much straight off the slides but as long as you read the textbook/do LOTS of practice problems from the book you'll be fine. His tests are 10 usually open ended questions but if you study they shouldn't be too bad. He also answers questions pretty well
He is okay if you are willing to study a little bit more. There are six tests that are given every other week. You also have a midterm and final as well as extra credit opportunity. His lectures are quite useless and he is a bit blunt. If you have the chance to get Nariker Harinda, you should choose her. Otherwise, Fadeev is your best bet.
As long as you attend class, and take good notes, you will do well on the exams. I highly recommend attending the SI tutoring if applicable, helps out a lot in preparing for exams and further explaining class concepts. His exams are straightforward, 10 questions free-response based on the material. Study and you'll do well.
Tough grader but if you put the work in and go to SI it is definitely doable. Participate in class for extra credit
Fadeev is an unenthusiastic professor who does not care about his students. He rarely gives partial credit on exams and expects you to learn a tone of material in a very short amount of time. His homework's are also very difficult and are nothing what we've learned in class. Make sure to go to every SI session. Best of luck!
If you study and really go over the material, his class is very manageable. Utilize the SI tutors as they really break down all the concepts and everything that will be on the test.
Fadeev is an unenthusiastic professor who doesn't care about his students. His lectures are useless...he just reads off the slides. Homework is very difficult with material that hasn't been "taught" yet, so you'll teach yourself. He'll ignore your emails, even for emergencies, so you'll fail! SI is your best bet, you'll actually learn from the TA!
very difficult professor and difficult to understand
I liked the straightforward setup of the class and SI sessions were key to acing this class. I went to every in person class but looking back on it he didn't take attendance and the only reason to come was to try and answer the in-class extra credit questions. Def go to SI sessions, similar to the 10 written Qs per exam. Exams every other week.
i rather swallow pebbles and pins and needles than retake this class. he wants to fail you. RUN
Mr. Fadeev is very intelligent, however his methods of teaching aren't the best for beginner students. To do well it's crucial you study his slides for the test and attend SI. I found it helpful to read the textbook before beginning a new chapter so it was easier to understand. Don't worry too much about Smartwork it's harder than the tests.
Gives +5 extra credit points for every in-class EC, equates to +10% on exams. Highly recommend attending SI sessions with Grant, but if you can't do all, attend the one before the test-- can't emphasize how important this is. Class is very doable if you self study. Professor doesn't answer questions well and reads off slides.
The ratings here are pretty dramatic. He's not great, but you can absolutely do well in the class. Go to SI and you'll be more than fine. Honestly don't even attend class it's pointless.
Literally hated this class. Only reason I passed is because of my SI. Tests are pretty straightforward and I'm pretty sure he just reuses them from previous years, so try to get your hands on copies of them. Assigns HW two weeks before due date and tests are all 10 questions short answer. Lectures r pretty useless because he just reads off slides.
Dr Fadeev is a very smart man, but by all means should not be a professor. We pay so much money to attend Seton Hall just to end up getting an educator like Dr Fadeev. As someone who needs things to be clearly broken down and explained when i'm learning, i found it nearly impossible to succeed in Dr. Fadeev's Gen Chem 1 class.
One word: bad. The only reason I scraped by with a B was because of Grant B.'s SI sessions, ESP the ones the nights before exams. I can't understate how important it is to attend those if you want to pass. To keep it short, lectures are useless, grading is all over and he genuinely doesn't seem like he cares to teach the class. DON'T TAKE.
Lectures are useless, basically just reads off the slides. Class is not impossible but requires a ton of work. Cannot stress enough how important it is to go to SI as it will probably be the only reason you pass.
Professor is honestly awful. Test and lecture slides did not align & very strong accent so hard to understand. Tests were very hard and all open ended only. tough grader and also rude. you also do not see your grade until end of semester.
Professor Fadeev can seem a little intimidating at first but overall he is not bad. There are 6 tests excluding the midterm and the final, and homework assignments for each chapter covered. Utilize supplemental instruction and tutoring when you don't understand concepts. The exams are 10 free response questions each worth 5 points.
This guy made me lose all hope in my semester and tanked my gpa. He does not care at all about what you have to say or any problems you may face. His answer is always to read the text book or that you should already know this. SI is a great help honestly the only reason I survived (GO TO SI!!!). Tests are graded very harshly. Detail your answers.
If you're considering taking his class, please save yourself and run. His lectures have nothing to do with the material on the test. He's a tough grader and can't explain or break down the concepts in a simple manner. He basically points to the slides and re-reads without clarification. If you're already bad at chem he doesn't make it easier.
Don't take this class at any cost! As someone who sucks at chem this class was a crying nightmare with no help. People tend to stop showing up,so if you attend class he does take notice of that and gives you some credit. Tests are hard and 6 questions, basically set up to fail if you aren't a master of chem.
