He is the best Bio Professor in BMCC. He is very helpful and explains the most difficult topic in an easier way. I will recommend him to everyone if you really want to learn bio and understand the materials then take him and you will never ever regret because he knows what he is doing. He also respect everyone and also fair in his grading policy.
Without further explaination, he is one of the best at bmcc. He will go that extra mile that others professor won't in order to help you. He is also, pretty social and very easy going. Just do your work and you will get a A.
This professor is a must take professor. He is a best professor for a Bio class. Do all work you will get an A. MUST READ THE BOOK. It was a pleasure working with him. none of us want to leave this class because this professor is really awesome and very helping.
Took this class, bc i am science major, and ended up getting an A, but i feel like i didnt learn too much. Gosslau is really nice guy, helpful and a great grader. He has great career as researcher, and you can see that during his class. His tests are fair, and if you do the work, you will get A. He is very liberal grader :)
He is the best professor at BMCC. His classes are very helpful, clear and interesting. He understands students and always ready to help if you have any questions. It's not so easy to get an A but if you read a lot and study good you will get it. He is very fair. If you take his classes you will never regret you have met him.
Professor Gosslau is a great teacher. He shows interest in his students and delivers the material extremely well. He gives tests every two weeks and exams every month which forces you to study and know the material. I don't think he is easy but once you study and show interest in getting a good grade, you can make it.
Easily the best professor I have had at BMCC or almost anywhere. You can tell he loves his subject, and he is respectful and very helpful toward his students. His tests are moderately difficult but his grading policy is very fair, and he is very effective at giving students a greater love and appreciation of biology.
This professor is really great. He is very interested in helping his students and wants them to learn. He wants students to succeed all the time. Everything in his class is very clear and makes the lectures simple for students to understand better. His exams are hard but fair and you can get a good grade if you study hard. Really enjoyed his class
He is the best professor in BMCC.He teaches us clearly and he grades fairly. But you need to read a lot and try hard to get A. I seriously recommend you to take his class. You will never regret you have met him.
If you want to learn a lot about biology and get a good grade at the same time, this is the right professor for you. Prof Alexander is one of the best Bio prof at BMCC. However, his exams are little tough, so you need to read a lot. Anyways this is Biology. Take him
english is my 2nd language, and i only took earth scince in high school so i feared bio. HOWEVER, lucky me i had prof. Gosslau. he isn't one of those prof who r TOO easy and carefree, and he isnt too strict like others who makes you hate school. he is fun and helps a lot. to do well u must read the book, bio IS hard, but with him its fun. :)
He is very professional. Knows a lot about his subject. Extremely helpful and polite person. Biology is not an easy subject so in general this course is not the easy A. However, this professor is not one of those who do their best to fail you.You will get the grade you have deserved, not less. Great professor!Wish I could take next class with him
I loved the Professor and his teaching style! The Professor is very helpful and treats students as his colleagues. You need to study hard for his tests though! Professor gives complicated tests, not only multiple choice but also fill in blanks, small question answers etc. Professor is very knowledgeable! I enjoyed the class very much! Thank you!
Amazing professor that cares about you and will try to help you not only pass but receive an amazing grade
If you are willing to put in the work, Professor Gosslau will meet you more than half way. Life does happen, and if you are diligent, persistent, and honest, Professor Gosslau will make sure he works with you and that you understand the concepts!!! Highly recommended for serious students, and the class/subject matter is by no means easy. A++++
This professor is really good i highly recommend him. You have to work for your grade though , just read the notes and read the textbook and you'll be fine.
Excellent experience!Interesting material,you learn,he cares, he is fair,and knowledgable! Fanstaitc Professor....refreshing!!!
very knowledgeable, respectful and understanding professor. All you have to do is read the text book and concentrate on his lecture and you will do good. Dr. Gosslau is very understanding, he will help you out if you are falling behind. Highly recommend.
Great professor, very helpful, loves biology which shows how much he loves his job. Gosslau also work each student to understand their and what is needed to reach a desired grade.
I took a Bio 220 class with this professor. In that class you learn plenty of physiology, anatomy and biochemistry about different types of organisms. Dr. Gusslau is an expert in the field, who will in a genuine way try to help you and also encourage you. I recommend him to anyone wanting to have a taste of learning from an experienced scientist.
he is the best professor ,he make you learn everything ,his test are a little hard but if you read the book you will do great ... he is really helpful ,he listen to you give you chances to get highest grades ,he drop the lowest grade too. i love his class and i learnt alot.
Professor Gosslau is an amazing Professor. He shows a lot of support to his students, and believes in every student. It is great to see a Professor who tries for his students as long as the student puts the best foot forward.
Prof. Gosslau is highly professional, supporting, adoring his job and students. He makes everyone be involved in studying. Reading a book helps to get a higher grade on exams. Professor emphasizes the most essential points and gives valuable recommendations. He wants everyone do well. Bio is not easy, but if you work hard, you'll get a high grade
One of the most hands on Professor's in all of BMCC! Always available to help, whether by e-mail, or meetings before/after class. Concise, and very easy going. His class is easy once you do hwk, pass exams, & participate in class. Most importantly...SHOW UP TO CLASS! Though there are many exams/quizzes; nothing on there is outside of whats taught.
If u r taking bio with other classes forget about taking this prof because he gives many exams and they are all very hard. sometimes five chapters which are long and tough to understand. Plus not enough time to study everything he wants u 2 know. No study guid, he says the book and the power point slide are the study guid which are way 2 much.
Professor. Gosslau is one of the nicest people you will ever come across in BMCC. He is extremely knowledgeable, professional , and caring - who really wants everyone to succeed! I cannot say its an easy class, but you will be given every opportunity to be the best you can be.
You will not be disappointed taking this Prof. Gosslau! He is fair, honest, professional and most importantly a great professor! He gives many test, but that just means many opportunities to succeed !
Professor Gosslau is one of the best professors I've ever had! He loves teaching and when students ask questions. Not once did he say he did not have time for further explanation. Biology is a difficult subject and Professor Gosslau rewards students according to the effort which they put in. Read the chapters carefully and do mastering biology!!
It is my bad luck that I can not take his class for bio 220 since I am transferring school. Professor gosslau is one of the bestest professors at BMCC. No words can explain him about his teaching style. Always keeps you update with grades, exams, lab reports and everything u need to do the best. Another thing is that he is very fair with students.
Professor Gosslau is an amazing teacher in BMCC. He knows the subject that he is teaching to his students very well. If you going to school to be in the medical field, he your teacher ! Gosslau will make sure you will learn biology inside and out. He a great professor. If your not planning to be a diligent student in college don't waste your time
HE IS VERY NICE AND HELPFUL , READ BOOK AND HIS POWERPOINT SLIDES PLUS MASTER BIOLOGY YOU GOOD TO GO . THANKS PROFESSOR FOR BEING VERY HELPFUL .
Hands down, Dr. Gosslau is one of the best professors, he's very inspirational and gives the best advices ever when you let him know what you are going through. He is also willing to work out with you and help you in the process of learning the material. I learned that you have to read the text until you definitely get it, mastering bio helps too
he is an amazing person. no one will ever feel neglected in his class. he cares for his students. taking him for bio 220.
Incredible professor! He will make you feel that this class is pivotal for your future career, so take it seriously. Labs are fun, but exams are not. Dr. Gosslau is very knowledgeable and passionate of biology. If you have a chance to take his class, don't miss it!
He is an amazing professor! No words can express how cool his class and labs were. He is also very caring, he understands when unfortunate events gets in the way, and he doesn't judge or punish you if it shows on your exams. He is very encouraging! His exams are not easy but if you study his power points you will be ok. He will be missed!!!
A wonderful professor, cares for his students and is willing to help. Lectures and test are clear. One of the best biology professor AAA+++. Study and you will surely pass! Impossible to fail!! Amazing amazing professor! Was an honor being in his class this semester.
He was great, he really tries his best to help every student. It's important you show up and show him you care about the class, he will indeed look out for you if you put in the work.
Dr. Gosslau is a very great, wonderful and specular professor. I highly recommend taking any class he teaching. I took Bio 220 this semester got an A-. There a lot of reading but it will be worth it in the end. After taking this class I could clearly said I enjoy Bio. His labs are fun and he really cares about his students and really helps.
Dr Gosslau is a great professor. Be prepare to read a lot. He cares about his student. I am glad I took his took. I got A-. I wasn't clear about something during the lecture and I went to his office after class and he explained it to me. I recommend him for any class he teaching. You not regret it. I wish he was teaching all science classes.
Professor Gosslau is truly a great professor, BMCC should feel lucky to have him. Incredibly knowledgable, gives interestinginsightful lectures, always there to help, and works well at maintaining a balanced class given the various personalities. I highly recommend taking any of his classes - I hope to take a class from him again.
He is a nice person, but not the best teacher. Lectures are very long and way too many tests. (Almost every week) good luck !
He reads off the slides which makes it very boring. He always runs off the time. Don't take him!
An exceptional Prof. and a credit to the department. Clearly the 2 students who commented below me are out of touch with the reality. Lots of exams and lab quizzes but that's how it is regardless of your Prof's choice. Read the book and pp slides, and practice!! Tough class, but expect fair grading and extra credit! I highly recommend Prof Gosslau!
the lecture are really long and be ready to read a lot. The tests are long but 90% of the are multiple choice.
Prof. Gosslau is one of the best profs of BMCC. He knows his subject very well. All his power point presentations are really helpful. That is true, I took his class in summer and it was really quick. He is really honest grader and his beautiful personality always make his lectures much easier. Take his class and be ready to read.
He always gives great lectures and it really helps to have a passionate professor to get motivated to show up to class and study. To get good grades, you must pay attention to his lectures, you will receive hints on what sections to focus for the exam. So I highly advise you not to bring your laptop to class as it can be distracting. Best of luck
Professor Gosslau is amazing! Very clear, very nice, and very awesome. There is homework but the homework helps you study. As long as you read the slides, pay attention in class, and read the Chapter Review at the end of each chapter, you'll do great! I really enjoyed his class. If you ever get the chance for him to be your professor, take the it!!
Lectures are long but that is because unlike most professors Gosslau likes to make sure EVERYTHING is covered and that EVERYONE knows the subject. Try and keep ahead when it comes to reading the chapters it's a lot but if you're interested it's not much. He is helpful, kind, really outgoing, and very caring 1010 would take him again.
He is just awesome professor!
Dr. Gosslau is a very nice professor, he gives many tests, but the purpose is to get more chance to have a good grade. The labs are interesting. He uses two books for lab. also, he gives quizzes for the lab, and there is a presentation at the end of the semester.
He is super helpful, and is there for you. Prof. Gosslau wants you to do well, but he has a tough confusing class. its all on slideshow and hes monotone with a heavy accent. you have to get ready to teach the matierial yourself. if youre looking for an easy class- this is NOT the right class for you.
Professor Gosslau is such a nice professor, he is there for you, and will answer all of your questions. He is very encouraging and kind. Of course you need to read his power point slides in addition to the book to do well. I'm lucky I had him. Bio is not the easiest class, unless you're into it.
LECTURES ARE SO LOOONG!!! Professor Gosslau is very helpful and very knowledgeable about biology, but get ready to teach the material yourself since it can be confusing sometimes. Plus side is that there are many tests during the semester so you'll have plenty of chances to boost up your grade.
Professor Gosslau is an easygoing, very knowledgeable, generous Professor. All Biology classes are tough! All the professors at BMCC have high standards (Probably because its important for your success) and they should: you're in college even if it is a Community College.
Prof. Gosslau is helpful. His class prepares u4 higher level bio classes bcoz his coursework is rigorous. I highly recommend him for bio majors & pre med students. The reason u take his class should be 2 have a strong biological science foundation for ur future career and not 2 just show up & pass. This is the best bio prof. anyone could wish for.
Dr. Gosslau is the most patient and kind professor ever. Hes the best when it comes to explaining. Best bio educator ever. Took him on a sunday 8 am and no regrets! Loved his class and would deff take it again. You need to work for your grade, science courses are not a joke! TAKE HIM
Prof. Gosslau is awesome! His lectures were fun for me because I love the material. His powerpoints are really through and his lectures go well beyond. If you study the powerpoint, do your mastering biology and practice you will do great. The lab quizzes are educational and he is very relaxed, which makes the class pleasant.
Professor Gosslau was an amazing professor! His lectures were very informative, and his feedback allows for students to understand the material very well. The power points, mastering biology are very helpful and he will put you in position to succeed. Study hard for the quizzes and exams off the PP's and MBs and you will be just fine.
Best professor I ever had. He was thorough in his lectures & posted them all on blackboard; exams were fair, and lectures were fun. Aside from being a stellar instructor, he also took the time to relate with each student individually, and it was clear that he really cared about all of us. He was firm and disciplined while also being personable.
Definitely he is very active and the way he explained his lecture even though lecture are long as u know its bio. often he used sign or try to draw a visual picture of the lectures. thats the best part! before you go to class do the pre class activities. If your major related or u r planing to study medical then take him.
Lecture: clear illustration. Test: Most multiple choice. Sometimes with 1-2 open questions (fair grades). No need to worry about it. Read the slides many times will help you get an A
Kinda looks like Leonardo DiCaprio. Anyway, he's a Greaaaat teacher!
Absolutely brilliant. Don't even think about slacking for a second during bio2... lots of info is thrown at you and you gotta stay on your toes all throughout the semester but dr gosslau is a great lecturer and you will learn a lot from him!!
The took both 210 and 220 with Dr Gossalu His Exams are hard but he prepares you in a way so that 100 is possible. He is the best professor.
He is a great professor! Very caring and tries his hardest, so his students can do good in his class. He is very smart and loves teaching biology. He is very passionate about biology and teaching. If you love biology too, you will do good in his class. Professor do not change! Thank you for everything !
great professor. clear lectures. test are mostly multiple choice 2-3 short answer. but theres quite a few of them plus lab quizzes are a thing. final is 100 multiple questions taken from the test given through out the semester
Very enthusiastic prof. Very knowledgeable, very nice, funny. I did summer sem with Prof. Gosslau therefore there were almost one lab quiz and one exam every week, and a presentation at the end of the semester. If you work hard, you are guaranteed to receive good grade, fair and square. Would recommend anyone to take his class.
His class is tough and lecture heavy, but he's a fair professor with the grading and the content. He actively tries to help the students out when they need it and makes learning biology fun. The class isn't an easy A, you'll have to study alot, but the way he teaches will make biology be memorable.
Brilliant professor. His lectures very intresting. Bio is hard, but if you read the book every day, do mastering bio, you gonna do great. Very ispirational professor. One of the best in BMCC.
One of the best Professors. His lectures are great and also a very kind person who is respected by the students. Would totally recommend him, although you will have to work hard.
I absolutely love him. It's a hard class but as long as you study and pay attention in class you should be fine. He's super nice and will help you if you ask for it. He's also very knowledgeable in Biology, very up to date with current research. I can't wait to take him again! His easily understandble German accent and crazy hair is just a bonus
This is by far the hardest science course I've taken!! Goodness!!! I royally failed his first exam but was able to get a B+! If you're not going to study and stay on top of your work, take someone else. His class IS not easy but he's very helpful
Professor Gosslau is motivated professional person who works hard to teach his students and maintain a high level of education in his classes. The assignments are balanced, organized and schedualed in a logic way; as well as his powepoints. Its not an easy course, but you def learn a lot from him. Other than that he is a warm, highly reccomended
I am so thankful for the learning experience that professor Gosslau has Facilitated. He is very good at explaining the material and most importantly for me, he is excellent at providing different ways of approaching complicated topics, and building a clear structure for the entirecourse.
Respectful and helpful. Tough grading. I like his lectures though his class is usually not that active and participation is rare. Having a foundation in biology is very important to pass his class and studying hard as well. His exams are tough and needs you to work harder. Recommended but you really really to work hard. Thank you professor.
Took over the summer, a really nice prof who takes the time to make sure you understand the material. Drops the lowest exam and quiz grade and includes a presentation at the end to help you boost up your grade. Makes lectures and labs interesting. Overall he's really nice and is willing to work with you so that you pass the class.
Professor Gosslau is a great option if you want to learn because this man is a professional. He really cares about the students and he is very patient. Biology can be a little bit tough, but prof. Gosslau makes it easier and he explains very well. I greatly recommend him.
Summer BIO 220 - Excellent, well respected professor. Always well prepared & taught way above the bare minimum. He skips almost nothing from each chapter but emphasizes the topics on the test. Must read before class or be lost during his 70+ slides in single lecture. Tests & quizzes every week. Very helpful after class. Must earn your grade.
lecture 7 test, lab 2 test, 3 quizzes. I think if a person takes this class with a different lab teacher. they set themselves up for failure. too many tests, like every week. no extra credit, Horrible
Horrible. He doesn't give extra credit. He gives 7 test, about 50-70 long. My GPA is still suffering from the C+, even though I've been doing really well. ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE. I felt like I studied way too much to receive a C+. It's not fair. It is the lowest grade that I've received for a class.
Too difficult. If you are taking 3 classes beside this, Youll suffer. This class needs you 100% for it. If you will take it only, you will do good. Too much reading and exams. Lecture too long. 5 minutes break. In one lecture, he will Test you and finish lecture. Dont be late.!
Prof. Gosslau clearly knows his stuff and is passionate about bio. He likes to talk about his own research which gives it relevance. This class is definitely on par with elite 4-year private colleges. He is strict with attendance- if you miss too much you will be docked points. He is very accessible, willing to answer/clarify, and just a nice guy.
Prof Gosslau knows his biology. Issue is there is 3 chapter exams every week. Exams are super hard and question are not direct. No review sheets no extra credit. Expects you to know every single terminology in each chapter and when you get to the exam half of them are not even on it. Does not at all tell you what is the main focus.
Dont take him!!!!. No mercy in his class. Wow! Imagine, he takes 0.25 point if you make a small tiny mistake it was wrong word on my answers. Never ever help students.
Professor Gosslau is very nice and a funny guy. You should read the textbook chapter BEFORE every class. The material is dense, but he breaks it down in away that makes sense if you focus and ask questions. If youre not willing to put in work I would not recommend you take this class. However, if you put in the time youll learn a lot.
You have to pass all your exams in order to pass hos class. Exams are crazy hard, he's never direct in his questions. Does not care at all for the students, he will put up a fake front to show that he cares but he does not at all. His lectures are good but seriously barely enough time to complete and exam. If you have 2 classes including this AVOID
This class needs to study hard and smart. Read before n after lectures. Do master biology and ppt he gives. In the beginning, I struggled, then I made it. I got an A but you really need to work for it. Not easy A class, but youll learn biology. If you have 3 classes beside this, youll struggle. He Prepares you for 4 year college.
Great Professor with a very kind personality, but don't be fooled into thinking it means an easy class. The tests are not easy and often ask something very specific about the material, so you will have to study. He fosters a classroom where students are comfortable asking all types of questions, and shares some research experience as well.
Integrity, humility, and inspiration.
Professor Gosslau is the best professor I had at BMCC. He is passionate about Biology and his passion is contagious! On top of being a great person, his lectures are of NYU level. Biology is not an easy class, but with him it seems so much easier+ his extensive knowledge in research will make lectures super interesting!HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!Take him!
a great professor! took him over the summer and answer any questions the class had even though some of them were really annoying. drops two exams and reuses questions from previous exams for the final! makes you work for it but you have a better understanding of biology because of it!
He gives a good understanding of biology, it's critical to read if you want an A. It takes effort but he's knowledgeable and knows how to explain things in simpler terms so they are understandable, I don't recommend this during the summer with another science class but it is well worth taking, especially if you want to go into biology research.
Get ready to read all the chapters and have no clarity what would exactly be on the exam! His PowerPoints are not helpful at all!
This professor is such a nice person. He is knowledgeable. He knows the material and tries to make it easier for the students to understand. It is a really hard class and he is a tough grader. However, if you try really hard youre good to go. But if you dont try from the beginning, then dont take this class. DONT MISS CLASSES!!!!!!!
Prof. Gosslau is a wonderful professor and gave me a real experience as to how a 4 year prof. is like. EXPECT TO STUDY! He gives you the PowerPoint slides + textbook chapters but it does not necessarily mean that's your only source of knowledge. Your grade depends heavily in your exams (70% final grade) + lab reports (30%). Removes one bad exam.
He is a really great professor that wants his students to thoroughly understand the material so that it sticks with them. You will have to read. A LOT. Dont think you can get past that part and do well on the exams. He can see who is putting in the effort and the exams will put it on full blast. The exams are 50+ questions everytime.
Professor Gosslau takes his job seriously. He is truly interested in making sure his students understand the material. Take his class is you want to learn from a professor who cares. But he expects professionalism from all his students. If you are type of student that skips class or expects an easy, this isnt the class for you.
The class is lecture and test heavy. Lecture exams are 50+ multiple choice & 5 open completed within 1hr abd 15mins, Lab quizzes are 30mins. No extra credit is provided and professor many times is very unclear. I would not recommend taking this professor in the summer and be ready to read everything. 5 Lecture & Lab exams with 1 final.
Best professor! Very thorough and will repeat and break down material until understood. Biology is meant to be hard, so please read chapters before lectures. PowerPoints should be seen as study guide. Exams are fair ONLY AFTER YOU read the material. Prof was very understanding and complemented to our needs, adding extra 5/10 min+ to exam.
one of my favorites. managed to lighten zoom calls w/ positive energy, serious knowledge, and cater 2 various circumstances for students. Summer semester consisted of long zoom lectures, mastering, biome proj., lab quizzes, and exams. Read textbook, practice DSMs, make group chat, manage time. take his class if u want 2 learn + laugh!
Professor Gosslau is hands down one of the best BIO professors I've had. He makes Science as simple as it can get. He's very helpful and wants you to actually learn what he is teaching. His test are fair and he always tells you what is going to be on them. Write down everythin he "emphasizes", read the chapters n the ppt are the best study guides
I did terrible the first semester of bio, I wish I had known Dr. Gosslau existed. Bio 220 was fun?! Cannot believe I am saying that. He made class super enjoyable, I actually learned. He's the sweetest professor & tends to whatever concern or question you may have. He presents the material in a very clear manner. Put in the work & you'll do great!
Great professor! Spends time to explain, breakdown materials and will even go over class time until you understand. He is very caring and really wants you to learn. When students request recorded videos/ additional photos, he will spend time to do it for his students. Other professors will not. If you are serious about learning BIO. TAKE HIM!
We had 7 exams and 6 quizzes for the summer class. It was stressful due to that but it thankful he was very thoughtful and considerate of our needs and he is a very knowledgeable professor that explains very well.
Great professor! Take him if you really want to learn BOI, but if youre lazy and expect an easy A, youll struggle. He is very knowledgeable and will teach what you need to learn. You have to read the chapters, study and pay attention in class. All the open questions on the exams come from the material that he explains several times in detail.
I took professor Gosslau in the 1st summer session. The professor was very caring and worked with us to make the class as smooth as possible due to the circumstances. He was understanding and the lectures were heavy as it is a lot of material. But if you study the slides and pay attention you will be great. My puppy and I recommend him!
He is truly caring and allows the students to have equal chances of achieving an A. The tests are with 4-5 written questions that are easy if you read the text and around 70 multiple choices that are from the book and his lecture. Fairly easy class if you study and put the effort in. If you decide to not spend time, you won't get good grades.
Professor Alexander Gosslau is really proficient in his area. I took two sequence classes of Bio 210 and 220 online. The class was not easy itself, but if you study and remain working a lot will help you. Overall, I am pleased with class and professor.
An excellent Professor that provides very descriptive details of the material we are learning which is helpful to understanding the material. His Powerpoint slides are very good at summing up the information from the textbook. He is fair and test you only on what he teaches so pay close attention to his lectures.
All lectures and labs were recorded from last semester, so there was little class interaction. The class was very boring with no interaction. Also, there are too many questions to answer in such a short time. Usually, 1 hr & 10m for 75 questions. Apart from that, there are 5 difficult short answers with many steps worth 5 points each.
He is a very tough teacher. Too many exams and quizzes every week. He gave so many questions with barely any time to complete them. Exams were getting longer and longer in terms of questions but with the same amount of time. For quizzes he give you 30 min for 25 to 30 question with short ans. All lectures and labs were recorded from last semester.
Just be present study and do your work, he was an amazing professor and he helped me a lot with the class.
He must understand that not all students are here to cheat. Giving little time to complete exams and quizzes is not a good idea, especially when it comes to shorts answers. Many ESL students find it difficult to write so fast in English. Also, this is not an English class to reduce points for grammar. He cares more about cheaters than teaching.
This professor is one of BMCC's gem. He's extremely knowledgeable and caring. Get ready to study though cause he's not your average cc type of professor, he's definitely a senior college level professor. Take him if you really want to learn!
Biology 210 or 220 are difficult and challenging courses to take. Prof G does his best to explain the detailed chapters and his expectations in quizzes/exams prepare you for what the senior colleges expect from you. He is always happy to answer questions you may have and repeat a part of the lecture for clarification. He knows his subject well.
I didn't do as well as I should have but I can't lie, he was a good prof. who made lecture/lab enjoyable.
I do not recommend his class or any BIO class at 8am! Prof Gosslau is very nice and good at listening to his students as he is willing to change deadlines and test days based on our feelings. I do think he occasionally gave us wrong information when we would ask information about topics he was less familiar with. A good class but you must work hard
Do his lectures and homework ( access is free ) before Campbell , READ the power points (90 % questions are answered there) and you will be good . I was never a fan of bio but learnt so much , labs are AMAZING especially dissections. He shows some of his research work and can give you a good advice if needed .Take his class confidently!
He's a great professor. His exams are easy so you have to supplement reading the textbook, watching his online lectures and PowerPoints. Once a week you need to come in for lab which he makes fun. He helps out where ever he can. He doesn't judge students harshly unless you're late. 5 exams + final, a test every other week so you cant fall behind.
Absolutely wonderful Professor with a very clear syllabus/grading criteria and very lenient. 5 exams+final, three graded lab reports and mastering biology homework. If you read the textbook, listen to his lectures, and practice MB questions, very fair class. Proof will ensure you known the material and that you excel if you put in the work.
He is truly a gem of a professor. I have never had a more caring/kind professor. Biology is a hard subject but he made it seem so fun and easy. His lectures are amazing and if you combine it with the textbook, you should be good to go. He has the patience of a saint and is very accommodating with everyone.
I took him for Bio 210 and again for Bio 220. He is an amazing professor who really cares. Read the textbook, review his lecture videos, and review the PowerPoint for the exams and you'll ace the class. It's not an easy class and you can fall behind very easily. We had an exam or quiz every week but everything on the PowerPoints is what was tested.
Great professor. I took him for bio 210 & 220. His teaching methods are clear and you will learn a lot. Every lab usually is followed by a quiz and following the quiz is a test but if you study and read the material, you should be more than fine. He is very kind and will provide multiple opportunities for you to do well.
This Bio 220 class was hybrid for lecture and lab was in person! He did try his best to go over lecture material before exams. The exams are long but pretty straight forward. If you take this course you have to be disciplined and watch the lectures on your own/review powerpoint slides!! Lab for Bio 220 was a little more fun than 210 in my opinion!
Wonderful professor and extremely helpful. My class was hybrid so lecture online, lab in person. Lectures were already pre-recorded and posted but you need discipline to watch and take notes. Tests are always based on those lectures. Quizzes are based on labs but those are easier. Study a week or 2 in advance for exams because those COUNT.
Amazing! I took this class in the summer, at first anxious about the subject, but I ended up finishing the class with greater interest in biology! He makes his lectures interesting and always tries his best to ensure everyone grasps his teaching. You definitely have to study study study! No extra credit, but drops lowest exam and quiz. TAKE HIM!
Amazing Professor. He is caring about his students and was always there when we ask questions! Very considerate about each and everyone of us. He makes biology very understandable, fun and engaging. Definitely a dobale class if you study in time, studied based off his lecture powerpoints and videos! Would take him if I take a class at BMCC again.
I took this class in the summer and it was hard because w had to rush lectures but if you go to class everyday and do the work you will get a good grade.
Professor Gosslau is a thorough instructor. Attending lectures and studying the textbook are essential. Tests are challenging but fair if you put in the work. Unstuck ai helped me practice and prepare effectively for exams.
Biology is not an easy subject but Professor Gosslau make it easy. He makes everything clear, as long as you listen to his lectures you will be fine. Exams are multiple choices with 4-5 short responses. Directions for lab reports are also very clear, he tells you what he wants to see. If you have them you will get the points.
i took bio 2 over the summer. bio2 over the summer is not for the weak. it is a lot of constant work, studying, and exams. he is a kind professor, who explains things very well. the course was just extremely dense and he did the best he could with those circumstances. in the end, i am glad i got bio2 over with during the summer.
I never liked biology before taking BIO 210 and 220, but Professor Gosslau completely changed that. His lectures are engaging, clear, and easy to follow. The material is challenging (as any science is), but he makes the concepts logical and interesting. I left the course loving biology and excited to learn more. I can't recommend him enough!
Amazing professor, his exams require you to understand the CONCEPTS well. Make sure you understand every single ppt slide for the exam. Make sure u review ur exams when he gives them back bc the final exam are the same questions. Do all the mastering biology! Overall, he's amazing and I def rec him! (haha also Ik he reads these)
Prof Gosslau was a really great professor and he made me even more interested in biology then I already was. I took this class on an e-permit and if you are from hunter: TAKE HIM! He's 10x better than the Hunter Bio profs but don't think it will be a walk in the park. It is ALOT of work and you will study day and night. But, the final is easy.
I have so much respect for Dr.Gosslau. He is a truly caring & knowledgeable person. His passion for anatomy was evident from the first day. However, as does anyone, he has his cons. He puts up a front that he cares for his students- & he does but to the level that we know what's happening in lec. (part 1/3)
(part 2/3) However, when it comes to grading, he's rlly strict w the exams & the grading for the frq. He needs to realize our grade in this class is rlly important and when a question on the exam doesn't seem fair & you bring it up, he would dismiss you & get passive, unless his fav students say the same thing then he would consider.
(part 3/3)he rlly focused on the smart kids in class as they knew what they were saying and it made him feel validated- completely dismissing the majority who is confused. he jumped around a lot in lec. exams were extremely confusing & weren't reflective of what we were told to study. as a professor, he is very knowledgable, but idk if its worth it
It is impressive how well he taught A&P 2 in a condensed summer term. IT IS A LOT, but he understands that lectures are very difficult to follow so he spends a lot of time answering every question and repeating himself. He adds average homework grades as an exam while dropping your lowest exam and quiz, which took my grade from a B- to A.
He emphasizes the big picture of A&P, his exams don't have random trick questions. He's clear about what to study/prepare for. I recorded his lectures and when I listened to the audio later while reviewing his slides, the material would instantly click. He'll slow down/repeat concepts in class for anyone who asks. He's a generous person and grader.
Fantastic professor — tough class, but if you put in the work, you'll do fine. Positive demeanor and grades very fairly. Too many people complaining about his exams. You should look inwards. Health sciences will eventually weed you out if you can't handle the work.
A&P II: Bio 426, with A. Gosslau, Summer I, 2025. The course was a 7 week accelerated Mon-Thurs Lecture/Lab. An intense course, test questions were not copy/paste from the McGraw Hill assignments, you have to learn the material to apply concepts to test questions thoughtfully. Knowledgable Professor who's grading is designed to help you succeed.
I took summer session Bio 426. It was not easy. The pace was fast with a lot of material every day. It was a tough semester, but Prof. Gosslau is a very knowledgeable instructor. He encouraged students to ask questions and made the class interesting. His exams were tough. Thank you, Professor Gosslau, for a memorable and challenging experience!
I keep seeing that everyone says that the classes he teaches are a lot, but he does it efficiently. I'm here to say that his class shouldn't be so demanding. We shouldn't be having exams every week that are at least 70 multiple-choice and at least 4 essay questions with a rubric. This takes away the enjoyment of learning.
Amazing professor — very caring, supportive, and really wants students to succeed. He explains concepts clearly and is always willing to help. The class does have frequent quizzes and exams and the tests require paying close attention to detail, but if you keep up with the material, it's very manageable. Would definitely take again.
Gosslau is a great professor. He's patient, fair, down to earth & cares that you understand what's going on in lab. The lessons taught are not always easy, but he knows his stuff and he's willing to explain if you have questions. His labs were fun and makes me like biology more. I enjoyed his class and conversations a lot! I recommend him!!
Honestly think half of these are AI. 5 exams and hard, short answers at the end he will knock you down and you have to go and show him that you actually said what he was looking for. Ended my 4.0. I studied so much. Not sure if there is a better bio2 prof tho. Look over the exams they will help on the final. test/quiz almost basically every week
