Hill was a great Econ professor. For ECN 211, TAKE HIM. All I've heard about the rest of the professors were bad things and even though econ is a difficult class in general, he teaches it very well and if you don't understand anything GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS. He is extremely helpful & curves the average of the midterm.
Great professor. Attendance is not required, but his exams are based on his lectures, NOT THE BOOK. It's a hard class, but if you want to pass, take notes and really try engaging yourself into his lectures. Many people failed his exams because they gave up on listening to him and skipped class. You really need to try listening and comprehending.
Easy class and great professor; he makes the lectures fun, for how boring Econ is. One thing that sucks is that he never shows up to his own office hours, which is annoying. Don't skip class though.
Go to class! Only missed 2 lectures and went to office hours and still got a C in this class. Curves overall grade, but never had any clue where my grade was at. Practice tests were nothing like the midterms and final. Don't recommend buying the book(just get access code for hw), his tests are based on his lectures. Nice guy, but that's about it.
He gave great lectures and although the tests were somewhat hard, he curved them and the textbook was a great source for studying (his study guides were just ok). Overall, macro with him was a fun and interesting class.
Textbook is only used for homeworks although it might help to understand some concepts better. Lecture heavy: midterms and finals are purely from his lectures, so take notes and attend! He makes the topics interesting and isnt too boring. Graded on a huge curve in the end and attendance is given to all, so you can easily finish with an A grade
The textbook and attendance are not mandatory. You only need to buy the code for the online homework. He puts the slides online but it's best to be in class because he adds onto the slides. Good office hours and makes econ more fun. Two midterms, two short writing assignments, 4 online homeworks, and a final graded on a big curve.
One of the best professors I've had. If you're interested in economics/policy/how the world works take 313 with hill! Attendance not mandatory but since his lectures are so great you actually just want to go to class. He makes the material really interesting and isn't scared to share his opinions, exams are fair , one of the best econ classes
Went to all of his classes and studied all the material he went over and still had a very hard time. He gives practice test that have nothing to do with the exams. He curved his exams where a C was the highest grade you think it would tell him something. You will have no idea what your grade is the entire semester until the end.
If you have to take ECN313 take it with Hill! Best professor by far! 2 doable hw assignments, 3 tests, attendance not mandatory but one you'll want to go to be prepared for exams and because his lectures are awesome
Dr. Hill was such a solid choice for ECN 313. He made the class relatable to the real world which was nice because you will walk out of the class being able to apply it. There two easy HW assignment, and he gives study guides and practice exams for midterms and the final. He is very available and helpful during office hours! Would highly recommend!
This is the worst teacher I have ever had. I cannot say enough negatives about him. His syllabus was not clear, he didn't post any grades and we are 3 weeks into the semester. He is not organized, is not clear, does not care, and should not be in this position. He sets his class up to fail, and I believe many students are doing just that.
Professor Hill, should not be teaching this class. There were over 300 kids in my online class and he rarely ever sent out direct emails to everyone to clear up confusion. The 'hallway conversation' board was a MESS, too much going on to even keep up. He does not keep grades up to date and gives practice exams that DO NOT reflect the tests.
I enjoyed this course. It was challenging to be sure, but I learned a lot about economics and the choices made by our government. The two exams in the class are challenging, but with a bit of studying and a generous curve theyre definitely passable. The discussion boards proved to have the same challenges Ive seen in all my online classes.
Professor Hill's lectures, discussion board threads, and slides are consistently relevant, thought provoking, and provide holistic answers. Dr. Hill is very accessible and cares about student success. He added additional office hours and communicated very well and helpful via discussion board/email. I can now have intelligent econ conversations!
He's awful! Homework and lecture have NO correlation. His lectures are boring and confusing. Test are impossible. Gamble on another teacher for sure.
The entire class was out of like 90 points and 70 of them were from exams. There are only two essays, easy A's but only worth 2 points for a 35 pg read. Expects you to retain all info from lectures which are mostly stories and jokes. Curved grades until finals week and then didn't curve the final, left everyone with a much lower grade than expected
Not much work, but hard tests. Super unspecific and unrelated to his lectures. Wouldn't take again
Homework is due weekly. Attendance is taken and its counted towards your grade. Carefully pay attention to what he says for each powerpoint slide and try to make sense of the information as best as you can, as it can be difficult to grasp some of the concepts. Tests can be hard if you REALLY don't make the effort into studying. He also curves.
He is a nice guy but not the best professor. His lectures are a snoozefest because everything he says his verbatim off his slides that are accessible on Blackboard so what's the point in going you may ask, well because you have to use an app to check into class for attendance points. Only grades are the hws and the 4 tests - tests are hard fyi
This class is not easy. It is, however, extremely informational and very doable with a bit of studying. He is a really good professor. He's more interested in you actually understanding what is going on in the world than grades. Yes, the tests are challenging. That's on purpose. He's a good guy, and a good professor.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. I am an Honors student and struggled to simply pass this class. There are 3 exams and a few hw assignments. The exams are 80% of your grade & lecture based but, the exams were foreign to everyone once he passed them out. The only reason I passed is because he grades on a curve. Choose another professor!
This professor has made amazing powerpoint slides with lots of "?" that need students to explore in class.
I enjoyed this class. I recorded every lecture, and listened to those to study before each test. Every test covers 3-5 lectures, so its not too bad. His pre-test office hours are amazing. Go to those and you should get an A/B on each test. The last test is not cumulative. The homework is not too bad. The material is useful, Id take him again.
HW and attendance easy points but 75% of class based on 2 difficult midterms and an okay final. Exams are solely based on lectures and slides have many open-ended questions. Come to class having read the slides (I didn't do this) so you are prepared to write down the answers to q's he poses on slides. Exams are curved 15% but GO TO office hours!
Most people say this course is lecture heavy, which is technically true. This is because he talks a lot, and most of what he says is only somewhat relevant to your upcoming tests. If you want to know what this class is like, take what you want from my experience: I winged every exam including the final and passed with a B+. Study practice exams!
Professor Hill wasnt entirely clear about what he was going to test on, and when he was, he threw curveballs during the exams. He claimed there would be a generous course curve after the class, which did not come. He was unhelpful in office hours and lost patience. Choose a different professor that is more clear and helpful.
There were some interesting parts of the lectures, but overall it was easy to zone out. The class is lecture heavy; Hill uses PowerPoint slides and adds onto it. He seems knowledgeable about economics, but the format of the class wasn't very engaging. I honestly winged the class and passed with a B.
So, the class is easy if you read (not skimmed like I did) the 10+ chapters and three 40+ page articles as it basically is what he talks about in lectures. Definitely show up to class and TRY to take notes as most of the things that are on the exam is what he adds on and the actual slides only has concepts you should know. He's a funny guy though.
Lectures were very interesting and well organized, take notes along with the lecture slides because what he talks about will be on the exams. All of the exams are heavily curved so if you don't have the best study habits you should do fine. Your grade isn't automatically generated so you need to wait until he gives you the formula to calculate it.
This course is exam heavy as the three exams are 25% each. While I think he is a good lecturer, his exams were very hard and detailed to the concepts. There is no math to do, all memorizing theory and relationships between different variables. He curves each exam, but I would've taken another, easier professor.
His tests are completely based off his lectures so if you don't go to class, do not bother. The lectures can be kind of hard to take notes on but as long as you listen and go to the review session you'll be fine. There is homework, but it is completely irrelevant to the exam content.
The professor is so careless. He talks the whole time during lectures and students dont know what to write because he explains side tangents. Exams are not something that you study for because its a big surprise of openended questions that were NOT discussed in class. Avoid taking this class. Im an A and B student.
I think Alexander is a solid choice for a Macro teacher. Lecture heavily obviously and he uses moblab to take attendance, his tests are based off his lectures so coming to class is valuable.
Basic lecture based, showing up to class essential to getting the notes, the powerpoint are online the tests questions are the elaborated notes added to lecture. Tests are definitely on material stretched from what was learned in lecture. If it's possible, take ECN313 with another professor other than Hill.
This class is so unnecessarily difficult. You can study all you want, but his test questions don't make sense and will throw you off. Attendance is 15% of your grade through MobLab questions every class. We were put into groups at beginning of semester and group grade is 10% of your grade.
He messed up the entire grading system and let us know after we took our final we had a low grade. So disappointed
Disregard the last review. He ended up fixing the grading system. I recommend Hill. He has the students best interest and is great at explaining concepts.
I showed up to every class for half a semester but I don't think it made a difference. Everything you need is on his slides honestly, and going to pre-test review sessions held by ASU's tutors helped a lot. His lectures are hard to follow, but he gives out a lot of extra credit and homework/other things besides tests bolstered my grade.
Professor Hill is a very good professor. After taking his class, I feel like I can have a decent conversation about economics with others. The exams this semester were based off his lecture slides. You can't expect to cram the night before, and retain the information from 10+ lecture slides. Study a bit each day and you should be fine.
Hill's class is very lecture heavy and boring, I found it hard to pay attention. Adding on, Hill claims to take off your lowest mob lab and homework but then did not. Be careful not to miss any. His tests are hard but he doesn't count them for much.
uses Cengage for everything and its impossible to get a good grade no matter what you do
Hill was a really nice professor. If you follow the grading system carefully you can pass with a B or higher. The subject itself was difficult for me to comprehend but even though I did bad on the exams I still got an A. Exams were based on lecture slides, attendance on moblabs, and hw on cengage. I would say utilize your resources to study.
just attend his lectures and pay attention and you are guaranteed to get an A. His tests are exactly like his powerpoints plus he is funny at times. He curved heavily at the end. I was at a 90% and then suddenly I went up to 99%. Honestly, this class was sooooo easy. I would study a day before the test and I would do just fine.
half the class wouldn't show up to most of his lectures which is sad because its the easiest way to get 15% of your grade for attendance. if you show up every day and take notes, trust me you will do just fine
Nice guy but so extremely unorganized it drove me insane!!! Uses a really dumb grading system that I would try to explain but it literally doesn't make sense. His tests are near impossible to pass unless you memorize his 99 slides word for word, but the tests aren't weighted heavily. Ended with a good grade but honestly not sure how.
His class is pretty average. Nothing exciting, he just lectures every class. His tests are based off of his lectures, so if you pay attention in class and study a bit the tests are not too difficult. No curve, but he gives plenty of opportunities for extra credit.
Doesn't have much structure in any of his classes. Chooses to make you memorize proofs when there is much more important material he should be covering. Not an awful lecturer though. He just needs to understand how to structure classes and write up lesson plans better. Not exactly a hard professor but he can be frustrating to have at times.
Professor Hill was an amazing professor. ECN has always been very difficult for me to understand and having him as a professor made all the difference in the work. I came in twice a week to his office hours to better understand the material. I think a good professor makes all the difference and I 100% recommended him as a professor to take for ECN!
this was a very tough class but Hill made sure you understood the content thoroughly. go to office hours before the tests because he does a crash course of the main things to know on the test. one debate in teams, choose wisely. print the notes ahead of time because he talks fast.
The most average professor you will ever get. He gives some kind of motivational speech about how his teaching style is unique, then spent the entire semester lecturing the whole class period. He put everyone's grades into canvas as being like 20% higher than they were, so people were extremely confused. I don't even think he knows his own grading.
He will lecture every class for the whole class except for a couple of days with videos. He makes quizzes due right before class and then lectures you on what you were just quizzed on. The mandatory groups help you bond over how much of this class is a waste of time. If you're smarter than the average WP Carey student, you'll pass easily.
Honestly, this class was the hardest one i have had to take. Hegives insane homework every week. His "office hours" are online and only for an hour from 6-7. Our original professor was sick so he picked up the class. His lectures are hard to follow and his tests are worderd so different from his powerpoints. I cant even bear to read the long book.
Professor Hill could be defined with very colorful verbiage not allowed on this platform. Took him for ECN212, and he was ok. no curve. ECN453 (online), he lectured on high-level concepts and tested on just math. Half of it was not in the book, and none of it was covered in video lecture. Does tell you what'll be on the exam if you go to office hrs
He was very engaging and funny. I would definitely take another one of his classes. He loves what he teaches and it shows. The tests are a bit challenging even when you study what he suggests.
This professor has changed the due dates for assignments several times, and assignments on WebAssign are due out of order so you have to search through the chapters to make sure you're not missing anything. He also rarely responds to emails. The tests are very hard and every class is just a lecture. Each tests covers way too much information.
He's a pretty pretty usual professor, nothing particularly bad, nothing particularly great. The tests are very hard, but only 30% of your overall grade. I'd say this class is a good option if you are not a great test taker. Attendance is 30% of the grade and all homework answers can be found on quizlets
I would not recommend taking him. He spends the whole period and it's just him repeating the book, except with more details you won't be tested on. His tests are concept heavy and generated by cengage, as are the hw and quizzes. As a result your hw and quizzes include concepts you don't need to know of the exams.
His class is lecture heavy and extremely boring. I found it hard to pay attention. His exams are hard and impossible to pass. But if you do the homework and show up to class you'll most likely pass. All of the homework is on Cengage and he uses MobLab for attendance so be sure to go to class.
His lectures are useless considering his tests are from the textbook. Moblab is essential so make sure you come. The mindtap assignments and tests are hard so keep up with deadlines and read the text carefully. He was not helpful at all with prepping you for the test so be prepared to self-study A LOT.
Hill doesn't do a great job with teaching his students. The lectures don't do much and the tests are very concept heavy and are impossible to pass. The test prep on cengage doesn't really help either so you need to know the concepts if you want to pass.
The homework and tests for this class are very hard and the lectures do not help in understanding the material. Attendance and reading quizzes are a big part of your grade so if you show up to class and do all the readings you have a good chance of passing the class.
The professor gives tests that have nothing to do with the homework or quizzes. His class lectures are completely irrelevant to what were being tested on. No final review or help, all just self study. Tests are based on very small details from the book not main ideas. Worked so hard and read all chapters but final Exam dropped grade by a lot.
This class was a complete mess. The tests are nearly impossible and have no relevance to any in-class or homework based learning. There are very few grades in the book so doing poorly or well on a test can make or break your grade. For a topic like Econ he is clearly knowledgeable but he is an economist, not a professor.
Take at your own risks! The class is extremely disorganized. Old reviews are based on previous class structure, its different now. Reading that will probably not help you useless you invest 7 hours per chapter. Not possible. Khan academy teaches you in 10 min instead of 7 hours. Missed assignment due to professors fault.
Not very understanding or lenient. His lectures are entertaining but aren't relevant to the test or textbook. The textbook teaches you everything (AKA you teach yourself), but even if you understand the textbook the exams are always a notch too advanced and are nothing like the quizes/hw. However I think it's still possible to get an A.
This teacher said the class would be interactive with little lectures, the whole class was only lectures. He was not good at explaining anything and somehow found a way to make economics even more boring. Probably the worst professor I've ever had, avoid him at all costs.
Inspirational speech about how he wasn't going to do traditional lectures because it's the 21st century and yet does EXACTLY that. The main response to any questions about the midterms and final exam was to refer to the book and take the test prep on Mindtap. Hadn't I kept my grades up I would've failed. DON'T TAKE HIM! You've been warned.
I recommend taking ECN 212 with Hill. His grading criteria isn't too clear, but in the end you'll realize that he curves basically everything to your advantage. There are 3 midterms and a final, but he curves the final by a whole lot. There are also homeworks and chapter quizzes due on Webassign every now and then, I wouldn't say every week.
It's a little frustrating that his tests are made up of questions from the textbook test bank, so you are being tested on the book and not necessarily what you cover in class. Other than that, a solid class. He keeps lectures interesting by breaking the class up into sections. Attendance is taken on Moblab.
About 25% of his class is based on showing up to class. Another 25% are based on super easy reading quizzes. Lowest homework drops, and lowest exam drops. If you don't get an A in this class, you aren't taking the easy points that are handed to you. He's a great professor and is passionate about economics and helping his students learn.
His lectures are so boring and do not teach you much outside of the book. The tests are straight from the test bank from the online book practice questions (which he will tell you). You should do well on the tests if you do the practice questions and read the book and go over the slides. Attendance is mandatory.
I feel like some of the other reviews are skewed a bit because of the coronavirus and the switch to online classes. Although he is not the best professor I've ever had, he wasn't terrible. THe cares about students and he gives a lot of lenience in his classes (drops). Just the material was BORING and this class relies on a lot of self-teaching.
I emailed this professor several times and never heard back. Due dates were a mess. Points available changed several times during the course. The average midterm score was 55%, and he just curved the grade instead of teaching the class. Lectures were prerecorded (online), none of which were from him. Supposed to have a zoom chat. It never happened.
This class was my least favorite class. I went to tutoring everyday sometimes the tutor did not understand his homework. He lectures very heavy and his test are ALL from the book. His grading system is confusing and does moblab every day for attendance. With the coronavirus he did dropped the last test.
Everyone complains about this class, but Dr. Hill gives out so many easy points. I never got better than a 75 on an exam, but he weighted the class to where an A was very possible. Just show up, do all the Cengage homework on time and take good notes. Do mindtap practice questions and you'll do great. He might be tough, but he cares about students.
I did not understand anything in this class and still ended up with a B. I failed all the exams but do your homework, moblab and other assignments and you'll be ok. He does curve and help boost grades at the end. Lecture is very dry.
Professor Hill is the best. His breadth of knowledge of economics is displayed each lecture. He encourages class discussion and participation, and I feel there was something genuinely meaningful to be taken away from every class. He sets a high standard and expects a high effort. He provides good feedback and is easy to reach outside of class
I took his class during Covid, so this may be skewed. This class is a heavy amount of work. Hill is a very knowledgeable guy and made a good effort to be accessible. I wasn't quite a fan of the level of group work required from his class, and his grading criteria was a bit unclear, but overall he did make an effort to help everyone out. .
Mr. Hill is very nice and knowledgeable. His lecture are interesting if you like economics. However the course is hard and a lot of work. The quizzes and homework are easy, but there are a lot of them. The exams on the other hand can be very difficult and a lot of studying is required. He asks you to read but you can get buy with just a little bit.
He refuses to put due dates into canvas so knowing the due dats is almost impossible with out checking daily.
Worst Professor Ive ever had. Tests were practically a trivia game with questions that you would only know from memorization. Complete reliance on the book and test pool questions from the textbook. Most lazy Professor Ive ever had and I will forever hate him and his class with a passion.
Professor Hill is very knowledgeable but he does a terrible job of teaching that knowledge to his students. If you want to teach yourself economics from a book and get an average grade for trying your best, this class is for you. Exam material is never what he covers in class and they are on Lockdown Browser. Not a bad guy, just a bad professor.
All work is done through cengage and the dates are not in order so you need to watch out for that. He drops your lowest hw assignment, quiz, and exam. Took as live online and attendance is not required. Was only planning to pass with a C since this class is a weakness of mine and did do that. If you do the hw and quizzes you should still pass.
The lectures are completely useless, nothing that he talks about is actually from the textbook, I went to the lectures in the first couple of weeks and gained nothing actually insightful from this guy. Understand that you are going to be teaching yourself this entire course. I'd rant much longer about how he does tests but there's a character limit
For sure my worst professor this semester, this guy does not help students what so ever and does not give any extra credit, no open book or notes for tests and make sure you read the book or else you wont pass. Very frustrating class.
He may be knowledgeable in economics but is unable to teach. He offers to help but when you ask for help he disappears. His syllabus states that he will have Zoom meetings to go over the each exam but cant manage to do those. It appears that he is more interested in his summer vacation than teaching the class and only wants to collect a paycheck
First off, it's an online class, there's not much the professor can do to make your experience game-changing. Professor Hill picked an awesome textbook, gave great lectures and weekly videos, and created an awesome extra credit discussion that incentivized you to learn more and earn the extra points. The work is still on you, but it's manageable.
Nice guy but does not know how to teach. Lecture videos are short and are mainly taught by someone else. The textbook is useful but the class doesn't go into enough detail about the mathematical aspect of macro. Overall left the class feeling unprepared and without enough knowledge about what the class was supposed to cover. Extra credit is offered
His useless lectures are literally just rambling about random topics, you WILL have to teach yourself everything in this class. Super unclear about when things are due or when exams are. He's super unorganized and can't teach at all. Go to SI sessions, they're more helpful. I hated this class so much. Will never take this prof ever again.
taking him was great. you did not need to show up to lectures because all the test material comes straight from the book. as long as you read the chapters, do the easy homework and quizzes, you'll for sure pass with an A.
Such a nice guy. He really does want you to succeed in the class and will try to get you the best grade possible! 10/10 recommend for ECN 211.
I honestly found his class very easy. If you read the chapter ahead of class like you are supposed to, and come to class to listen to his lectures, you gain a lot more. The times I did not completely read the material were the times I did not gain as much. He is very understanding, helpful, and I recommend hearing him talk outside of class. Read!
I really enjoyed Hill's Macroeconomics course. It was pretty easy overall, and as long as you do the work, its just a lot of chapter readings; lecture is optional, but helpful and pretty neat. He also only has 3 tests before the final, and drops the lowest one. He is slightly disorganized, but he also made our final a one question discussion post.
Hill is lecture heavy, but he's interesting and engaging. He's goated for giving out extra credit
He's nice but this class was just ridiculous .The textbook is a required purchase online where all of the quizzes and homework come from but it's very hard. There are 3 midterms and 1 final which are decently hard. The worst part is his actual and canvas grades are different so you can't know your grade at any moment besides after each midterm.
Most of his lectures function under the assumption that you've read the chapter in advance. He goes out of order with chapters, which was super confusing at first. It's an easy A as long as you study for exams. Also, macro is just a prereq for WPC majors so painless good :)
Beware he does not properly manage his canvas page so what you see there will almost never be accurate. Expect mysteriously changing quiz dates and the like.
Bounces all over the place. Some lectures are interesting but most are just boring.
Within the last month of the semester, Professor Hill has changed the entire layout of our class. Which is rather inconvenient since we are approaching the end of the semester. The syllabus provides no exact dates of when each exam/quiz will be taken, nor is it on canvas like every other Professor provides. I have never seen such disorganization.
READ CHAPTERS BEFORE YOU GO TO CLASS. trust me it helps. if you don't,you get lost while he's lecturing. He's a very passionate guy tho. He gives us a 5 question quiz to do towards the end of class that just asks about the stuff he talked about in the lecture (easy if you pay attention!) and he drops 2 exams and some hw/quizzes which helped a lot.
Prof Hill is a great option for ECN 211. At first, attendance wasn't mandatory and then he gave us easy quizzes at the end of class that sufficed as our "attendance". It's obviously lecture-heavy aside from days we have exams, which are in-person btw. The practice exams and study guides are provided and the tests correlate to them.
Professor Hill started doing some quiz during class which really seemed to help everyones grade and understanding.
I had no choice so I took this class. His class is accessible whenever and wherever because he always uploads his recording BUT please don't take his class if you have other options. His lecture is boring and I studied myself on the slide that he uploaded on Canvas. Also, questions are very BROAD so it's confusing.
Hill uses his lectures for exams and the book for quizzes; very confusing. If you study using the study guide and practice exam, you'll be okay though. Later, he started shortening lectures and giving quizzes at the end, because people didn't do good on an exam. Drops your lowest exam and 3 lowest quizzes and homeworks.
I don't know how I passed. Homework is super hard. 1 quiz and homework assignment a week usually. Go to class and read the book. I didn't and have no idea how I got through. If you get behind a little bit, catch up quick or you're screwed. Drops 2 quizzes and 2 homework. Started doing daily class quizzes when people stopped showing up. Nice guy.
If you are reading someone saying something negative, it is because they are soft. All you had to do was study the main topics that he gives for each exam and listen to what he says during lectures. Most of the kids leaving negative reviews just didn't go to class and want to blame someone else. Homework may be tough, but do it with friends.
Easily the worst professor I've had. Will walk up to class on the first day and say he "gives a lot of As and a lot of Es" so that's a good indication of the type of quality you can expect from this class. You will be required to drop over $100 on a "textbook" (cengage) to be able to do his homework.
Im not the best at Econ so I unfortunately did not do as well as I wanted in this class but that is all on me. Professor Hill gives very good lectures and advice. I was dealing with ally of mental health issues and he worked with me to push deadlines back when I needed them to. Overall great guy!
AWESOME PROFESSOR, TOOK HIS ONLINE COURSE FOR SUMMER 2022 AT ASU. WAS ALWAYS WILLING TO HELP. BASED OF MINTAP HOMEWORK, HAS 3 ATTEMPTS FOR EACH HOMEWORK. 3 TEST, FINAL IS OVERALL YOU LEARNED, GIVES EXTRA CREDIT.
I had to make this review to offset the ridiculous negative reviews. This class is so easy to do well in if you actually show up and pay attention to his lectures. The tests are literally based off of them. The negative reviews are by people who never bothered to show up to lectures after the first day and struggled with the tests as a result.
He's an ok teacher, but talks to us like we are PHD students. His slides are messy and hard to read and he's all over the place durning class. He also zooms through class way too quickly and doesn't give students time to finish taking notes before switching topics.
Very easy professor to take, just attend his lectures and you'll do fine on the exams. He holds review sessions the class before the exam where he goes over every concept that will be on the exam and goes over each question and answer the class after the exam. The homework is a bit harder, but just go to tutoring and they'll explain everything.
Great lectures but the homework was genuinely super tough so you might need help with that.
Teacher does a poor job of teaching economics and lets the online portion of his class carry the teaching. The online portion has little to nothing to do with the materials covered in class and started making in class quizzes a requirement because the students would not show up to the class that didn't have mandatory attendance.
Prof Hill is great, his lectures are pretty heavy but it could be worse. He has quizzes at the end of each class which makes it mandatory but you can always have classmates send you the questions. Exams are kind of difficult, you have to study and a lot of the times it's not what he went over in the review sessions. I liked him.
All you have to do is show up and pay somewhat attention. Exams are extremely straightforward and quite easy using logic and common sense. If I can get an A in this class anyone can. I have no idea how anyone could leave a bad review, this professor is amazing. Take for an easy A!
After class quizzes are most of your grade and are kind of annoying because they aren't entirely based off of the slides (which he teaches on). A lot of things are dropped though including your lowest exam and he's a really smart guy. The exams weren't the worst either, they do require a bit of studying.
Professor Hill is amazing! If you're an econ major or needing to fulfill one of your ECN credits, definitely try and take his class. He is a very good lecturer that makes class periods interesting to listen to and fun to attend. He maintains the expected amount of work and difficulty for a college level class, but the drops the lowest grades you
He got ratioed and he coped
Before evening taking his class I was afraid because there were so many awful rates. But as in overall the class is very interesting. You get to learn a lot! 4 terms but drops 1, focus more on his lectures. He gives out a quiz after class to test our knowledge but you can also work with your neighbors.
Hill is a nice, chill guy. Quizzes at the end of class that's multiple choice where you can get the answers from people around you. I never got less than a 5/5. The homework is tedious, but you can find the answers online. 3 midterms, 1 final. He drops the lowest midterm grade, drops 5 quizzes, and 2 homeworks too. Tests based solely on notes.
I loved this class. The in-class quizzes are what is graded most heavily, but it goes over the lecture for the day and you can work with other people. The tests are fairly easy. The homework and reading quizzes felt more like a waste of time, but they only are assigned every two weeks.
Prof was completely uninvolved. Went into the first test completely blind. Students had to pry for a study guide and simply to know how many questions were on the test. I bombed the first test. The only way I ended up with an A is that I realized the "study plan" section is used for the test. You'll get an A if you study the Study Plan.
Don't do it to yourself... the Mindtap assignments are crazy hard, tests use Honorlock... an economics class should never be this difficult. Hill is the worst teacher I've had at ASU.
Professor Hill is a nice guy. His class is extremely confusing and relies heavily on interpretation. Out of all my classes last semester, including inter Micro and Calculus II, this class required most of my time. SO MUCH READING. I have never read more in class. He gave a lot of extra credit at the end of the course because so many people failed.
Only two exams w/ no guidance of what was going to be on them. The "review" for exam 2 was a zoom session between him and two other students that answered three problems. A few quizzes weren't relevant to the material I'd spent a ton of time trying to understand. I'm lenient w/ professors as an online student, but I'd 10/10 avoid if him you can.
Great professor and class setup. Put in the time and you get the grade you want. Exams may seem difficult if you don't know how Pearson works but all questions come from the "study guide" section of Pearson. Study em, memorize em, know em. Amazing lectures. Super interesting. Super useful for anyone as it impacts everyone and everything. Best class
4 homeworks, 2 exams, 1 large group project. This class becomes significantly easier if you have a good group, as most work done in this class is done in a group.
Class was unique and really interesting. Weekly lectures, readings, and empirical activities. Only 4 quizzes and he drops the lowest one, study and you'll be fine. Each week a random group presents on the readings. The group project is a lot of work, but he has reasonable deadlines and gives feedback to help your group be successful.
Lecture videos were useless. Just professor talking over one powerpoint slide that had no info on it. The interactive book was difficult to follow, but the homework was easy because you get three tries for each problem. Discussions were confusing and a waste of time. Quizzes were pretty easy, however. Overall, get ready to teach yourself.
Professor Hill makes this class really engaging. The in-class quizzes and dropped grades make it manageable. I found Unstuck AI super helpful for exam prep alongside the textbook.
Highly recommend Hill. Very engaging lectures that emphasized application of data analysis and statistical methods over pure theory. Homeworks were from the textbook and were distributed reasonably throughout the semester. Two exams and one big group project which Hill was always reachable for feedback.
Hill is such a nice guy, super engaging as a lecturer, and always available to help. He's really reasonable and makes the class feel approachable. Definitely the best option for Econometrics—you'll leave with a much better understanding of the methods and actually know how to apply them.
This professor expects you to make your own decisions in the coursework and does not provide much guidance - very vague. He downplays the final project as “if you try, you'll be fine.” Then, you receive your grades. No rubrics, arbitrary grading, and pointless feedback. Not a single group in our course received a 100% on their final. Good luck!
As other reviewers mentioned, the professor is vague, shows little interest in teaching, and grades harshly on the final project. The feedback often covers points already addressed in the presentation. Unfortunately, like many in the ASU MBA program, this professor seems more focused on collecting a paycheck than teaching effectively.
