This guy is a huge badass. If you want to know about heavy hitting motha****as like Hegel, Nietzsche, Kant, Plato, et all- take this ****ing class. Seriously the dopest man ever. Just study and dont suck.
A Russian national, schooled in France, teaching in Utah?! What else could you ask for? Loved the course and his teaching style. Funny and off-the-wall.
Greatest teacher I have ever had. Structured his class in a peer-to-peer interactive way, was very informed and passionate, and made the content pertinent to modern philosophical issues. My 3 hour night class felt like it was only an hour!
He covers all major topics in a very clear, interactive way.
This was an easy A. His testing is a very large essay, but if you really study and listen in class, it's not a problem. He's also very supportive and willing to listen to your problems and work with you when you need help.
Easy class, with attendence not enforced. He assigned topics for us to research and then talk about in class, and we got three credits for this. Yet we really learned alot and he made it exciting and controversial.
Such a great teacher. Prof. Izrailevsky is helpful and insightful, as well as brilliant. He encourages students to study and makes the classroom a fun and exciting place to be.
Dr. Izrailevsky keeps it challenging but interesting. He judges you more on how much you know about the philosophy, rather than the person. He's a good teacher and very smart and fun to talk to.
Makes you think, but easy

I have taken three classes from Dr. Izrailevsky and have loved every one. He is the best proffesor I have ever had. He teaches because he loves his students and you can tell it's more than just a job for him. He makes his subjects easy to understand. His background makes him very interesting. He is brilliant and SLCC is lucky to have him.
He let me retake the first midterm that I took which resulted in me getting an A in the class.
Excellent philosophy topics! 3 tests and a 3 page paper or class presentation. Tests are essay, which require a lot of memorization, but not hard if you study and are in class. The book is useless, if you are in class you have all the information you need.
Dr. Izrailevsky is an incredible teacher. He brings the philosophers and their philosophies to life. He teaches what he calles the "ESSENCE" of what they said!! I will forever be greatful to him for sharing his passion with the class.
DR. IZRAILEVSKY IS THE LAST PHILOSOPHER OF THE 21ST CENTURY!
The greatest professor I have had. Wonderful speaker, keeps the class on the edge of their seats. Consider it a privilege to have him.
I took his class a few years ago, and I still remember over 50% from his lecture. You can't hate his lecture if you are a human!!
Made me excited about school for the first time since sixth grade. Seriously. I felt like I should do well, and I did, and it was because of Dr. Izrailevsky.
I had him for Personal Ethics. Great teacher and a great speaker. I would recommend going to most of the classes just so you know what's going on. Quizzes are easy and I never bought or read the text book. So save your money.
I was okay taking this class - And now that its almost over I will really miss it - I was over GREAT! Pro. Izrailevsky was wonderful (a great Lecturer)
Best instructor!!! Hardly use the text.Memorizing and giving your opinion are a big part of this class. Very nice guy :-) I defiantly recommend taking his class!!!
He's a good lecturer, so much so that if you attend class regularly and take good notes, you won't ever need the book. He also presents the information interestingly and with energy.
Great class! Very easy A and well worth the money. I am much less opinionated on many of the moral topics discusses because of the class debates and learning about arguments of both sides. Highly suggested!
Personal Ethics- GREAT CLASS! GREAT PROF! I highly recommend this class and the prof will work with you to make sure you get the grade you want. I wish I could take this class every semester!!!
Veddy Gooood. Veddy Niiiiiice. He's definitely entertaining and the class is thought provoking. He really seems to care about his students.
A truly passionate great man.
Mr. Izrailevsky is hands down the best professor I have ever had. He is clear and concise and presents things in a way that inevitably forces you to question your own opinions and beliefs while learning about others'. He is a brilliant man and a truly gifted speaker and professor. I would recommend his courses to anyone.
I loved this class and Mr. Izrailevsky is a great prof! You won't regret taking this class!!!
Best class I have ever taken. I am now planning to pursue Philosophy in the future. Great teacher, very helpful and passionate about the subject. Tests are somewhat difficult and nervewracking at first though.
Dr. Izrailevsky was a wonderful teacher. He was a little bit difficult to understand at first (he sounds just like Borat) but it became much easier after about the first week or two. Take notes on his lectures and the class will be a breeze. Be an active participant in class because he is very willing to help you if he knows that you're trying hard
He is so very interested in his students' success. I highly recommend him as a professor.
By far the best professor I have had!
He is a great Professor. It took just a bit to understand him and the only bad thing is he cuts off his students as soon as he thinks he understands the question but he cares about his students succeeding and he really knows his subject. And he is quite a character.
My favorite teacher of all at SLCC! The class is difficult (you will actually need to learn the material) Tests consist of learning the philosophy of 5-6 philosophers, of which you are randomly assigned one to write a comprehensive essay about. I recommend taking any of his classes. He actually cares about his students and the material, a great guy
awesome prof. i really liked his attitude and outlook. he was direct on his expectations (which were completely reasonable). his class was 99.9% lecture and, if you took good notes, made the tests a breeze. my only qualm was that i was hoping that the class was going to be more discussion and less lecture, but it was great anyway! take his class!!!
great intro class I knew zip about philosophy before this class. i stopped going to all my other classes out of boredom, and deeply regreted missing any of his lectures. just listening to him talk made my day. i love the way he teaches. class dicussions would be nice if it was a longer class. love love love.
Everybody should experience a philosophy class with this professor. Takes very complicated subjects and breaks them down for everyone to understand. Respectful of students and their learning needs. Takes to heart and implements the core learning objectives of SLCC with style and leadership.
Great teacher. Love his accent. He mostly lectures and we rarely used the textbook. There were a couple of tests on his lectures and we had to do two presentations on controversial issues. Basically, the students taught the class after midterms. It was fun, but I'd prefer if he would just lecture on it all.
Best professor at SLCC period!
Best professor at SLCC period!
Best professor I've had period! You know exactly what he wants, he knows his stuff and if you pay attention you get a great grade. I only wish my major (Business) required more Philosophy.
Amazing professor who loves teaching. He has his PhD in Philosophy. Teaches at a community college because of the small setting. Amazing lectures. Clear expectations. Tests from lectures but reading reinforces concepts. I consider him a mentor.
This class is great. Israilevsky is a great teacher - he does tend to go off on wild tangents, but they're often entertaining anyway. Dude rocks.
He is the best teacher out there. He has a passion for his profession. Show up and Take great notes, PARTICIPATE, and pull out some interesting examples and facts on your papers. I had a high B+ and with participation points I got an A.
My friends, my friends (you'll laugh at this after you take his class)I loved loved loved his class. It's very thought provoking. Everyone is dead on when they say he cares about his students!! I am actually going to register for another class with him.
This was the only class I was excited to go to everyday and I'm really sad it's over. He's the best professor at SLCC. Loved his lecture and testing style. Don't need the book. Don't miss class cause lectures are important.. Won't be difficult to do cause you'll love this class. im thinking about majoring in Philosophy because of him
Greatest class at SLCC!! I've been going to SLCC for 5 semesters and have never seen a prof show as much interest in his students learning than this guy. His lectures are so interesting and you'll be excited to show up for class. Book isn't mandatory but it's recommended and helps you learn more about the philosophers. Attendance is manditory
Great teacher. The tests are pretty scary, but it makes you learn all the material. He also allows you to retake one test if you didn't do well on it. Top pick for any philosophy class
I loved this class! This instructor is SO organized, nice and helpful. He is clear as well as funny. I learned a LOT. He takes his teaching seriously. I didn't even know there was so much behind philosophy. I didn't even know what philosophy was before this class. I'm glad I took his class. Tip: Class participation is important.
He is funny, helpful and respectful. I really enjoyed his class. If you like philosophy I would highly recommend Prof. Izrailevsky.
Very passionate and helpful teacher. His lectures make you want to learn and succeed. His class consisted of three quizzes and a final paper. If you attend class, take good notes, and study then you will have no problem getting a good grade.
BEST PROFESSOR I'VE EVER HAD. Took his class a year ago and still have not found a professor who matches his passion and knowledge. I waited two semesters to get into one of his classes that fit my schedule, worth the wait! Business major who considered PHIL minor simply because of Izrailevsky!
This is a "serious" proffessor, I'm not joking, I'm serious... I loved this class, it was easy and interesting. Its one of those classes that I hated missing.
He is the best teacher I have ever had. The subject/ class is hard, but he makes it easy because he is such a great teacher. I had no interest in philosophy before but now I'm seriously thinking of minoring in it. He is very passionate and serious about teaching. If you come to class, you will get an easy A, if you don't it will be much harder!
Best teacher I ever had. He is so passionate about the subject, it makes you passionate about it. I WANTED to attend every single lecture because it was so interesting. It's easy and fun and you will regret not taking it!!!
An energetic lecturer with a deep knowledge of his subject, can't recommend him enough.
He is the BEST! Funny and a true scholar of philosophy. His lectures are much needed to pass the 3 quizzes, but you don't want to miss them anyways. He takes passion to a whole new level and I love how he forces students to think outside their little worlds. Great teaching style and is very organized. Take his class if there's any open!
He is so intelligent and such an interesting teacher. He's Russian so his accent takes some getting used to. He is very clear about what he expects. Tests are on his lectures not the text so make sure you show up. Tests are essays about a philosopher you have to study for many because you don't know which one you'll receive. take him!
Only Prof. I have reviewed, because I loved the class. Stick to the notes from lectures for the quiz. He is kind, extremely interesting, and passionate. Truly cares about his students. I hated missing class because lectures rocked. Take any course you can from him. *Tests are Essays* so pay attention in lectures!!He rarely uses textbook. Reccommend
By far one of my favorite classes I have ever taken. He was very informative and clear. As long as you go to class and take good notes you will do alright.
He is such a good teacher and is really interested in his teachings. There is almost no real homework but man do you have to study for the test. I have NEVER failed a class before but I could not pass this course. The form of the test makes it pretty hard and the grading system doesn't help because there is hardly any point besides test.Must attend
HILARIOUS guy! He makes the class laugh the whole time, he loves what he does and that makes the class enjoyable. He cares about everyone, he calls his class his close friends. I only took the class for an elective credit but I am now planning on taking more philosophy classes, as long as he is the professor of course.
Dr. I is the best teacher I had at SLCC. Hands down. I'm reviewing his class a few years after the fact because it was THAT good. He is kind, intelligent and the subject opens your perspective to many different ways of thinking. Bar none, the best teacher ever. I would highly recommend the class. Just come to class and take notes!
Such an engaging professor! His background and knowledge on the subject is great and he is able to relay the information in a way that intro students understand.
Such a passionate professor, very very knowledgeable. His background is really interesting. He can be quite intimidating, and if you're not working hard/doing your best/acting respectively, you'll suffer from it. He has high expectations for his students, which should make you work extra hard. Great class! Straightforward assignments/exams.
Earn his respect. Work hard and show your interest and dedication. He will appreciate that, you will get more out of the class, and you'll be able to see that when you get your grade. He's not your typical professor - his Russian background plays a big part in this. Keep an open mind, show respect and dedication, and enjoy the class!
This has been my favorite professor yet at SLCC. I am not interested in Philosophy, but would take more Philosophy classes just to have him as a professor. He is one of the most intelligent individuals I have ever encountered. His lectures are very engaging and interesting. His class is worth taking just to have him as a professor.
Took this class a year ago and I still consider it my very favorite college course thus far. Izrailevsky is by far the coolest teacher at SLCC!
He is an amazing professor that will help you to understand philosophy with an open mind as well as help you to develop your own morals and philosophical mindset. You need to be willing to learn and dedicated, he respects that. He does not respect laziness or childishness. Work hard and prove you care about and understand philosophy and A is yours.
Dr .Izrailevsky is a brilliant man. I have learned so much from him. Very clear about what he wants in his class. Take notes, study notes and you will pass the tests. If you don't show up or study you will fail. He is very fair. You have one project do at the end of the semester, there is no reason why you shouldn't pass with an A unless you're lazy. Super fun class, he is very funny and passionate about his lectures. Very respectable human being! No doubt about it!
I had an D until the end of the semester, but he allowed me to redeem myself. I worked hard and earned an A. Studying is essential to pass. Don't make yourself learn that the hard way! But he's an awesome guy! Don't be discouraged by the difficulty. Its so worth it. Taking another class from him in the fall. Love his classes and his teaching!
Distracted easily! Goes longer than the actual class time is. In this intro class he is too basic. I found myself googling the concepts, improving my notes. He'll answer your questions and wants to you pass his class. He does essay tests. You're assigned to write about a philosopher. You don't know before hand. Study your notes thoroughly.
Dr. Izrailevsky is the best teacher I have had at SLCC has high expectations for his students to succeed in life so his class reflects the challenge. The reading is easy because by the end of class I was inspired to read more into the topic anyway. He is always so animated and passionate about Philosophy that it becomes contagious.
I loved taking this class! It's so interesting and with the professor's studies, he is able to expound on these iconic philosophers. He has very interesting opinions and perspectives. He is always willing to help and takes a lot of responsibility in the students' success, not only in class but in school. Highly recommend!
Excellent class. He encourages questions and his lectures are enjoyable informative, and funny. He breathes a lot of life into a stiff and intimidating subject. I wanted help preparing for a test and he met one-on-one with me, so he'll go the extra mile for you. 10/10 would do it again.
One of my favorite teachers. I wish he taught more classes. I would take them. Make sure you go to class and take notes!
This instructor is by far my favorite at SLCC. His lectures were amazing and this class made sure you had to critically think. The class was open for discussions and he made it clear what he wanted in assignments. Most in my class had taken him before, so he's great! Keep in mind, though, that is he is Russian and sometimes hard to understand :)
TAKE THIS CLASS. Izrailevsky will challenge your thought process and push you past your limits, but don't be shy about participating. Quizzes are easy if you pay attention in class. Case studies are done in groups, but you'll be graded on the effort you put forth for the entire class. This class is fun and unconventional, I highly recommend it.
This man actually cares about his students. I have never had so much respect for a professor. I wish I could have a professor like him for all my classes. I don't consider his class work I actually enjoy going and paying attention. Highly recommend taking one or all of his classes.
I loved having Izrailevsky as my philosophy professor! He had amazing lectures that always kept me interested and cared about each of his students. I loved his intro to philosophy so much I took his second course taught at SLCC the following semester and got an A as well.
Amazing human
He gives great lectures, he's very organized, he cares about his students, and there's not a ton of homework. His has 3 exams which are essay style about a philosopher than you learned about of his choice. Pay attention, take notes, study the philosophers and write a kick-ass paper on exam day, and you will have a great time.
Prof. Izrailevsky is a captivating lecturer. His knowledge of philosophers and their philosophies is vast. He welcomes questions during lectures. His tests are easy if you go to class and pay attention to the lectures. I would definitely take another class from him. It's too bad more professors are not like him. You will love him!
Mentally engaging. Awesome teacher. Fun class.
Highly recommended. Also, make sure to participate in his class. He remembers it. Great professor, one of the best.
Good professor. Extremely knowledgeable on the subject matter and course content. Fairly and accurately represented the various philosophers and ideologies. Breaks complex and intricate philosophical concepts down into easy to digest talking points. Overall the course was a positive experience.
Dr. Izrailevsky is amazing and I loved his lectures. His teaching style is different than what I was used to, but I loved the experience. At the end of the class, he took his time to speak with us each individually and speak about our work,he gave very honest feedback which I appreciated immensely. Advice: Take the notes and ask questions!
Dr. Izrailevesky was amazing. Absolutely one of my favorite instructors I have ever had. He knows his material inside, and out. His lectures are well formated, and orginized. He takes control of the class, and stays on topic. He loves feedback, and gives great feedback. He has much respect for his students, but does not shy away from speaking true
I would recommend this class and Dr. Izrailevsky to everyone. His class is well structured and really interesting! He has clear expectations from students, and I would advise you to attend classes and take notes. I really enjoyed his straightforward approach and all the fun I had while attending the class!
Take notes, so many notes.
Seriously the greatest professor ever. So smart, kind, compassionate, and grades fairly.
Professor Izrailevsky is a wonderful, observant person possessing a rare level of candor; he isn't afraid to tell it how he sees it. His classroom is conducive to thoughtful, stimulating, respectful and open dialogue, nurtured by his passion for philosophy and teaching. I highly respect him and would encourage anyone to take one of his classes.
Professor Izrailevsky is a great teacher. A scholar in his art. He loves what he teachers and he wants you to love it too. He has a great style of teaching and it's mostly lectures. The quizzes aren't tough per say, but he makes you study hard for them. This class is well worth it.
Go to class and ask questions and you will pass with flying colors. Lecture heavy class. Basically no homework. Stress free and intellectually fun class
Professor Izrailevsky is a fabulous instructor. He prompt with grading and extremely fair. His lectures are executed in a humorous story telling fashion. with out a doubt I would take his class again.
These tags also apply: Respected; Participation Matters; Accessible Outside Class; Clear Grading Criteria; Hilarious; Graded by Few Things; Caring; Lecture Heavy Prof emphasizes engagement with the ideas, not memorizing, and always sets time aside for questions/discussion. Gives full grade audit on final day of class. Passionate about his job!
TAKE ANY AND EVERY CLASS DR IZRAILEVSKY TEACHES! I cannot over emphasize this for he is the best professor I have ever had!!! Im not even majoring or interested in psychology but I will gladly take any other classes he teaches. 3 rags to choose from is not even close to how many describe him. Seriously, take his class. Youll love it!
I'll start by saying this was one of the best classes that I've taken at SLCC. Once you get acclimated to his teaching style you learn a lot about philosophy and communicating with others. Very few assignments, so you need to be there for the quizzes. Basically your repeating EVERYTHING he lectured. That's the only thing I didn't really enjoy.
Proffesor Izrailevsky is good professor and the class is pretty easy to pass. However, just a couple of heads up. He has a very thick Russian accent (often difficult to understand), His lectures are fine, but he leaves very little room for open discussions that contradict his worldview. Also, from personal experience, He is not very trustworthy.
Professor Izrailevsky is probably the best professor I've had! He is very passionate on the subjects he discusses and shares great stories. He's also open minded on people's interpretations and welcomes discussion in his course. He's always willing to help out, and in my personal experience, he's a very nice and enjoyable person! My favorite class!
Really lovely professor that is obviously very educated and passionate about philosophy, as well as very caring towards students. Doesn't teach an easy class, you still have to work for a grade, but is very clear about what he expects from you. If you show any drive or promise he will do everything he can to help you achieve your personal goals.
A very likeable person, however his grading method is tough. I got a B in his class and worked really hard for it. You only get graded on 3 tests; however, for each test you have to memorize 6 philosophies perfectly or else you won't pass. He does let you redo one test at the end of the semester which is nice, but I wouldn't take him again.
I can't really say much because I dropped his class very early but my reasoning for doing so is because he is very hard headed and one of those people where his way is the only right way. I had multiple people try and challenge him and ask questions which could have made a great discussion but instead of explaining he just repeats how he is right.
I absolutely adore him. He's comprehensive in his lectures, and he'll answer any questions as best he can. When he talks about each philosopher, he will do his best to explain and defend their views whether he agrees or not. The tests were easy as long as you study and are able to defend your personal opinions with fact.
The best, most interesting, class I have ever taken; thanks to this professor. Engaging lectures; test you on what you know/can write about a particular philosopher instead of multiple choice questions; very interesting guy.
Likes to talk but is very interesting to listen to. Cares about his students and will always help.
I took his intro to philosophy class as well as his ethics course. He is extremely qualified and interesting. He cares for his students and encourages participation. No text book but you will need to attend because the class is centralized around lectures. There are 3 tests, 1 paper, and maybe a small homework assignment that makes up your grade.
Great professor was born and raised in the USSR and has interesting perspectives. Show up, participate and take good notes and you will get an A.
As long as you study you will pass.
Love this professor! As long as you show up & take good notes (basically whatever he writes on the board) youll be good. The quality of your notes determines your grade since that is your #1 study material for quizzes, which could be super easy if you take notes. He is old school so he doesnt update canvas about grades. No homework, no textbook
He makes himself very available. He is passionate about his classes and you can tell he really cares about his students and helping them in any way he can.
Very smart and experienced professor. He has a lot of respect and dedication for his students. It is VERY important to read the textbook to get a full understanding of his lectures. Make sure you follow his timeline and ask CLEAR questions if you're confused.
Best professor at SLCC, by far. I was not very interested in philosophy until I took Prof. Izrailevsky's classes, and now I read about philosophy for fun in my free time. Enjoyable lectures, mostly unbiased, and willing to help students when they need it. Make sure to attend class most of the time if you want to pass.
Class is an easy but not very interesting. You can tell he knows what he is talking about but the class has zero interaction. I think the most frustrating thing is he never puts grades in, rather at the end of the semester sits you down one on one and tells you a grade he thinks you deserve out of thin air.
I am so glad that I took this class. It was educational and fun to learn about philosophical concepts. Take good notes on lectures, they will help you with essay exams. Alexander Izrailevsky is a knowledgeable professor and allows for open discussion on differing philosophical views. Take this class. You'll love it!
The class was VERY lecture-heavy, but overall an amazing experience! Mr. Izrailevsky is extremely knowledgeable about the subject, and had great insights on philosophers. Only 2-3 homework assignments, most grades came from quizzes about certain philosophers. Funny guy, too.
I had to take this for a general. I thought I would loath it, but he made it very interesting and easy to understand. There were 3 essay type quizzes and a final paper. They were fairly easy to pass, just a bit of studying. I did buy the book for $15, but never used it. His lectures provided enough to get an A-. He is very passionate and helpful.
One of two professors that I genuinely enjoyed in my time at SLCC (2.5 yrs). He is very passionate about Philosophy and he loves to have discussions about pretty much anything related to it. He is kind and helpful. At times it might be a little difficult to understand what he is saying/writing because he is Russian. Overall, I highly recommend him.
Really nice guy who obviously loves what he teaches and that's always a nice thing to see. Not a tough grader. As long as you pay attention and take notes during lectures and write a decent term paper you'll be fine. You might want to read the textbook as well. It's actually a pretty good textbook; it's interesting and readable (for a textbook).
he doesnt use canvas and doesnt post your assignments or grades so you dont know your grade. he also doesnt post lecture notes on canvas either make a friend or dont miss class. he has really bad writing so sometimes i dont understand what hes written. but the tests are easy and theres only 1 big paper you have to write
The first part of the class is the hardest, you have to memorize philosophers and their beliefs. After that its cases studies and class discussions. You get to choose your case study to research and present (group project) but its not hard at all. Then the final is a 7 pg research paper on your case study. Very passionate but he does interrupt alot
He writes notes up on the board. If you understand them and regurgitate that onto the essay style tests you will get an A. Very easy to follow and simplifies the material so it is very easy to understand. Show up, ask questions, and he will love you. If you need philosophy specifically, take this class. Otherwise look for an easier one.
I loved Professor Izrailevsky! He lectures the entire time and writes notes up on the board in a way that you understand. He doesn't take attendance and he only grades a few things for the semester. I enjoyed his teachings and found the class itself to be enlightening. He's very understanding and I respect him a lot.
I say yes a textbook was required, but I got away with not getting it. The lectures are helpful and he teaches each day as a new philosopher. Only 3 quizzes and one paper are graded. You will hear the stories of each philosopher 4-6 before a quiz. He's passionate and will crack jokes once in a while. My favorite professor as of now.
Best Professor ever! He was very caring and was willing to work with any and all students. Lectures were amazing.
Dr. Izrailevsky is by far the one professor who I have the greatest respect for. He is extremely clear and consistent with all assignments, gives wonderful lectures, and keeps his notes on the board to simple bullet points. If you respect him, he will definitely show respect and consideration for you. Always answers emails and encourages questions
3 things you are graded on the whole semester. Never heard from the guy. Worst thing is that his QUIZes were graded based on whether he thought they were GOOD or not (AN OPINION!). Absolutely terrible. Has a hard time with English too.
Overall, if you are looking for your questions to be responded with five minutes of incoherent ramblings, take this guy. He literally made up definitions regarding hebrew semantics (Phil of religion) and he got mad when i brought up the grim reaper paradox :/ He loves to hear himself talk more than to actually teach philosophy.
This man is the arguably the best teacher at SLCC. He made me love college and want to be an exceptional student. He gives the best lectures and the best feedback. I was excited to go to class and take tests, which is crazy to say. He is a wealth of knowledge and super wise. Take this class if you want to be inspired.
This class in my opinion is made by the professor. Without him I cant imagine philosophy and its history being terribly interesting. Alexander is a greater teacher and fair grader. I think he truly only cares about his students expanding their minds and knowledge. Easy A too. 3 Papers all year and 4 tests.
Dr. Izrailevsky is arguably the best professor at SLCC. I learned and retained more information from his class than any other, and always found his lectures and discussions to be interesting and engaging.
I recommend him as your first teacher in philosophy. I've always thought the subject was useless until I I've taken his class. He is one of the best professor I've ever had.
Best Professor ever!!! I learned a lot from this class. He was very knowledgeable, caring, and was willing to work with any and all students. The lectures were amazing.
Good, informative class if you pay attention to his lectures. Easiest class I have ever taken, which was almost boring at some points. Only had 4 assignments the whole semester, 3 two page papers, and 1 seven page (Double spaced). You get what you give with this class. If you want to learn you can, if you just want an easy class you can also get it
Only 4 assignments in the course so take them serious or it will hurt your grade. He responds quickly through canvas or email. He understands what he is talking about. Makes the class interesting, and funny. He does have a habit of interrupting which was annoying at first, but if you show up and take notes this will be the easiest class you take.
One of the best professors I've ever had. Made me realize that I can actually genuinely enjoy humanities classes even as an engineering major. Only 4 assignments, which allowed me to dive deeply into the parts of the material I was most interested in, rather than being bogged down with an onslaught of boring homework. I highly recommend his class.
I LOVED this class. If you're on the fence, just take it. It's not only easy, it's actually enjoyable. I definitely recommend taking this class in person. The lectures are organized and fun. There's no homework. There are only 3 main essays that are easy to get through, and 1 bigger 10-page essay at the very end. THATS IT. My favorite class by far.
Awesome professor, great at playing devil's advocate and getting you to challenge assumptions. Facilitates great group discussion, very academic and respectful while tackling sensitive subjects. Will definitely be looking to take another class from him out of sheer enjoyment, even though all my GE reqs are filled after this semester.
Mr. Izrailevsky directs an amazing, thought provoking class suitable to a diverse audience. His labor expectation of students is relatively low when considering the course material. Prepare to be wowed by the lectures and Socratic discussions.
If you have the opportunity to take a class from Dr. Izrailevsky you should. He is a great instructor, a fair grader, gives interesting/engaging lectures and discussions, and he has the best personality. He's a great guy overall. If you participate you will get a fair grade. He is very inclusive/accepting. I can't emphasize enough how great he is.
Dr. Izrailevsky is a great professor. My only criticism would be that he does not provide very detailed feedback on essays. He is stern but forgiving of the occasional missed deadline. He teaches the material very clearly and methodically.
I loved this class! It was very fun and respectful. PHIL 1120 has the potential for a ton of controversy, but the professor kept everyone very respectful of each other's opinions. Everyone had a voice on heavy topics, and it was very interesting. The class is great if you pay attention and participate. 4 essays total no exams. Fullly recommend
I enjoyed listening to his lectures ( you get used to his accent very quickly). He is knowledgeable and clarifies if you don't understand during his lectures. You will be writing 4+ pages of essays during the course, but he is helpful and willing to work with you to make sure you get the grade that you want.
First class without an A was with Dr. Izrailevsky. He's knowledgeable, papers manageable with good notes & personal insight. Confusing grading, follow guidelines closely to avoid up to 20% deduction! Just 4 assignments (papers) for the semester, so one bad grade will affects your chances for the A. No redos, extra credit, late work, or second shots
very wise in the topic of philosophy, 10/10 would take again
If you have even the slightest interest in philosophy, take it. He is insightful and the lectures are very engaging. It was an elective for my degree, and it was well worth my money and time. 4 reports throughout the semester, just don't procrastinate them and you'll be fine!
Dr. Izrailevsky has an immeasurable ability to bring out the best in his students. He is an incredibly bright, focused, humorous, and sharp individual. His intellect radiates to every corner of the classroom in a manner that begs students to look inward to find their best, strongest, and most curious versions of themselves; you won't forget him.
I loved this class! The lectures were always engaging and very informative about the different philosophers covered in the class. Assignments should be fairly easy to complete if you attend the lectures regularly.
Dr. Izrailevsky has been a friend and a mentor for years and this is the last class I will take from him. No other professor I have had has taken such a interest in the success of his students in order to bring out their best. His knowledge is immense and he does an excellent job at giving incredible lectures. I cannot recommend him enough.
This class was an easy A. Most of the in class time is spent going over group projects then the final grade is based of of four quiz's that are a four page paper on the subject of the group project for the week. The discussions were interesting in class, but sometimes the professor's ego felt a little big when he would step over people talking.
Great class with engaging lectures. Only 4 assignments, so focus on them. The professor is knowledgeable and makes the material interesting. Unstuck ai was super helpful for essay prep and review.
He is one of the best professors to take a class with throughout this semester I like the way he teaches the class
Alexander is an amazing person, but his class was mostly focused on writing papers, creating presentations, and listening to classmates on a "panel." We spent about a month learning about philosophers, then switched to long and often boring presentations. It's an easy A, but not the most engaging class.
One of my favorite professor, I attended every lecture and had turned in my assignment on time an got a perfect grades. There are four papers, three are 4 pages and one is 10 pages. He gives plenty of time to work on these essays and he gave the day off when the papers were due. My favorite thing about him was he would grade my papers quickly.
Great professor, we had a total of four essays for the assignments and no test. He is a fast grader and cares about his students. I would definitely take his class again and would recommend!
Prof is very knowledgeable and clearly cares about his students. My only issue with the class, especially during group presentations, is that he'll completely talk over you and take three times longer than necessary to answer your questions. Lectures are great but as soon as you cross over into discussion territory it can get really frustrating.
He will not let his students speak. He will interrupt you constantly. He claims to respect his students profoundly but his actions show the opposite. I was meant to lead (lead!) a class discussion for a period and he talked for 80% of the time and interrupted me in the middle of my sentences the two times I was given an opportunity to speak.
Professor Izrailevsky is like a Russian Zizek. He rocks. One of the few people I've ever felt truly seen by. He clearly cares about his students and brings decades of philosophical depth into every class. He tends to dominate the conversation, but it comes from a genuine desire to share hard-earned insight, which I prefer over derailed discussion.
literally the best professor I've ever had, super willing to work with you and speaks very enthusiastically which makes going to class actually entertaining.
Amazing accent. Lovely, entertaining, and information dense lectures. Few but demanding essay style assignments.
Dr. Izrailevsky is a legend at SLCC. People who say he's dominating the conversation are biased & don't understand russian culture. Students who think communism is great lol. Ask him how it was to live under Soviet communism? Defend your position & challenge your thoughts. He deserves a leadership position & raise. He's hilarious, 250% take again
Professor Izrailevsky is amazing. He has a super cool Russian accent that is a little hard to understand but after the 1st day of class I was able to understand him fine. His lectures are super interesting and he gets really into it. There are 4 large assignments that he requires that are the entirety of your grade. Highly recommend.
