There's no point going to class, he's very unhelpful. He always get stuck, and ask us for ideas to solve problems.
He's the best statistics professor i met in my life all the other ones suck. His tests are so easy, there's no reason for not getting an A in his class.
He is a very helpful and caring prof. He really wants the student to do good. But u do have to study and do work
He's pretty easy if you know his tricks. He never really teaches you what he puts on the tests,but his tests are straight from the textbook,same questions and answers,so read and memorize the homework and you'll be fine.Also he puts answers in patterns,so look for a pattern on the test and you'll get a 100,I know nothing about stats adn I got a 100
He realy knows his stuff when it comes to mathematics. He taught the entire class with no notes and did not miss a beat. He was even able to start the class in the exact place that he left off the previous day.
THE WORST PROFESSOR I'VE EVER HAD, the entire class agreed with me. Besides you can't understand what he says/writes, he spends the whole class with his back to class doing problems which you can't see. He's rude and useless.
This guy was rediculously easy, 2 exams: midterm & final..lets you use a whole page of notes for each one...make sure you take notes..i never used the text..takes attendance and very understanding.. if you dont get an A umm i just dont understand
He was the worst Calc professor that I've ever had...I couldn't understand what he was saying and studied a lot for his tests but got low grade for it..Good thing is, he lets you re-take the midterm. He's class is not that good but he really wants you to get good grade. He would help you a lot.
HONEST RATING: he makes math so much harder than it has to be. hard to understand. you have to go to tutoring. gives a ccheat sheet. gives take over test if a lot of people do bad .** LIFE SAVING HINT: he gets his test Qs from the internet. the site starts with a S and ends with a K. GOOGLE it .TRUST ME..you are going to have such an easier time =]
He seems to be a really nice guy but, he overcomplicates things to such a degree its ridiculous. The material itself isnt that hard, if you read the textbook. If you're taking him read the textbook. It will help so much
He knows his stuff, but isn't the best professor. Fortunately, he's nice and will let you retake an exam if you do poorly. And, if you want to receive a decent grade, you'd better become well aquainted with the textbook.
Honestly. Run... Just Run.. His accent is so hard to understand. His writing is horrible. Wanted to be a math minor but changed my mind. I mean he has the nicest personaility in the world but as he a teacher is he wrong. I wish I knew Russian because then I could get an A.
Really Cool Guy!! and VERY FUNNY and makes NO SENSE. often refers to alligators. lol. Take him if yu insist on just getting Calc out of the way. Test are pretty easy. 3 test in the whole year, if yu do good on both there is no final. No need to attend class, show up for test or to get a good laugh. Really nice guy. I got a B+ when i deserved a D.
...just...no. He over complicates simple things to the point you don't know what you're learning. His accent is thickbut even if it wasn't you wouldn't be able to hear b.c he's so quiet and rights really small on the board.I can honestly say that I have not gained anything from this class besides a unity with my peers when we panic before each test
Handwriting is illegible blocks the board when doing problems. When explaining he over complicates and makes things even worse. Nice guy has a retake for first exam. Loads you with 100+ questions for homework a day. Tests you on stuff he did not teach. On his phone in class. No partial credit if you do not do checks and more flaws too long to list
Nice dude & wants students to do well except for the fact that he CAN'T TEACH!! illegible handwriting, thick accent, and talks quieter than a church mouse...you will have to teach yourself if you have him and maybe go to tutoring. i had to withdraw. just take constantine instead
Has a really great personality but is horrible at teaching. Has a really thick accent making it hard for students to understand even if they're sitting up in the front. People tell him in the back to talk louder and you still won't be able to hear him. I struggled so badly in that class that i had to switch!
If you haven't been doing well in Pre-Calc/high school Calc, and you feel like you can try to catch up and understand better in this class... you were wrong. You have a teacher that's not only frequently late, but also difficult to understand with his accent, his handwriting, and his method of putting equations/proofs on the board. STAY AWAY.
DO NOT take this class. It was the worst experience of my life. He does not give partial credit even though he says he does. His tests are beyond hard and have nothing to do with what he teaches and with what is in the textbook. His writing is horrible, he is not helpful whatsoever, and he is never on time for class. He barely can do math himself.
This man cannot teach. You will have to learn everything on your own. Try and do the homeworks, even though he doesn't check. They will help.
Drop this course. He is straight off the boat from russia and has the thick accent to prove it. However, you'd be lucky to even hear it taking into consideration the volume at which he speaks. Not Helpful, doesn't teach from the text. Tests are BEYOND difficult and are often not pertaining to the course material OR what he teaches. DROP OR FAIL.
He's a very sweet guy, tells funny stories, very weird. But alas he cannot teach. Class is kinda fun to go to and will help your grade. If you end up with him, stick it out. If you can choose, don't choose him! Love the guy though. :3
for calculus, he is amazing. He is very, very passionate about math and loves it more than anything. He is very, very lenient and nice and will give make ups if you do bad on a test, his test grading is obscure but his transcript grading is generally good, if your IF UR STUCK BETWEEN HIM AND GERBER, PICK KATS
good professor calculus is a hard subject and requires mastering even if u learn it in high school they say the same you have to work hard and study hard just like he says and you will do fine his midterm and final are not hard but require you to know your stuff and carefully write down all your steps otherwise as easy as a high school calc course
Katz is soft speaing and has a thick accent, but overall he's a nice guy. He is detailed which is a bad thing and a good thing. He'll go everything as many times as you want, and shows a lot of patience, however he can ramble on and on on on particular subject to the point your frustrated. His exams are easy if you do his homework.
He talks so softly and it is extremely hard to understand him! I spent more time trying to understand what he was saying than actually learning the lesson. I dropped this class as soon as I could!

if you know how to cheat then you should be OK for this class. An online integral and derivative calculator will be your new best friend. also be prepared for weird assignments that he doesn't inform you about. BUT if you are in for a challenge take him (;
His accent is THICK, mumbles, gave up on trying to inspire students, gets carried away on unrelated topics, writes gibberish on the board, oh, and makes you buy online HW for $70. It has an online version of the textbook, but its easier with the actual physical copy. Looks, dude's a nice guy outside of the classroom, but teaching-wise, just run.
overall he's a tough professor to comprehend because of his thick accent in class but, all his tests are online and all the material reflects the online homework assignments we receive. Don't be discouraged on the first day of class you will pass, that's a guarantee!
His accent is very thick so it is hard to understand him. In my opinion, tutoring doesn't even help but if you plan to learn anything, don't take this class. There are is hw which are on webassign and his exams, at least for my class, were online. If you plan to just get past this class, then find a group of people to take on this road together!
I wish I could give him a positive review because he does seem like a nice guy but to be honest, when I took his class I felt like he was not teaching TO the students but rather teaching WITH students who happen to be there. He wrote stuff down, he just sort of mumbled to himself and solved his own problems on the board. If you take him, good luck.
Not clear. He often doesn't directly answer questions, and if he does he's mad you asked to begin with. Doesn't really work with you and make things comprehensible. He just mumbles to himself as he works on his own with his back to you. I thought I could try harder to get better but it was impossible and I eventually had to withdraw.
if you took calc in high school and you were good at it, def take him. homework, midterm, and final were online. but if you didnt then youre screwed cause he cannot teach for his life. pretty sure he spoke in russian once.. His accent is crazy thick.

He honestly is a very nice guy and is extremely smart, probably too smart for his own good. I never took calcprecalc before and understanding him was nearly impossible(and im not talking about his accent). You can tell he wants his students to do good but he can not teach for his life. If you never took calculus or precalculus dont take him
Honestly, the people who rate him low probably cut his class and didn't learn jack all semester. He may not be the best at teaching, but his class itself is structured so that if you even put a tiny bit of effort in, you'll get an A. He's a nice guy and if you already know calc (like i did), or if math is your strong point, then take him.

Smart and a nice professor but he gives a LOT of homework (online). I didn't really learn anything in his class, even though I'm a math major, kinda worried about taking cal3 right now. He has a accent so sometimes I don't really understand him so I only rely on hw. It felt more of a self-study class.
Dr. Katz really knows what he's teaching. Calc can be hard to follow and it's easy to get lost, however he is ALWAYS willing to help. He is more interested in making sure you learn than what your test grade reflects. Only 3 tests (online) and a handful of homework assignments. He is hilarious and makes calc seem interesting. Would take him again!!!
Dr. Katz's is a really nice guy. However, you really have to try to learn in his class. His accent is hard to get over, but once you get used to it, you'll understand he's there for you as a teacher. All homework and tests are online. Unless you rely on textbooks for other classes, DON'T BUY THIS ONE. All you need is an online code.

EASY A! don't buy textbook. No point in going to class cause all EXAMS & HWS are online. If you took Calculus before, you shouldn't worry a thing. I took 2 years of Calculus in HS and as of right now, I have an A in the class. Very intelligent professor but cant't teach for LIFE, his lectures are unnecessary and confusing.
He does every test online, so if you arent trying to show up to class but cheat on tests then youre good, if you really want to learn i suggest you take another professor, my class was on the same topic for most of the semester i stopped going half way. He is very nice but isnt a great teacher.
Avoid this professor at all costs!!!! He definitely does not know how to teach and yells at the class if no one answers a question correctly. I took Calculus in high school and always got 90s. Yet, I'm getting 60's on his tests. Don't be fooled, just because his tests are online doesn't mean they're easy. Also he doesn't reply to emails or help
Prof Katz needs to learn to teach before he teaches students. His tests were so hard, half the class fails them with 60s and 50s. It would not be a good idea to take this class. He is not helpful at all. I went to his office hours one time and he was very rude. SAVE YOUR GPA DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS.
unless you're a genius at math, do not take this class. will drop your gpa tremendously.
Prof Katz is a really nice guy, but this class is basically a self study class. I've never taken Statistics before, and I was confused all throughout the semester. Everyone I knew in this class ended up failing most of the tests.
He always shows up late. He is not a good teacher and asking for clarification doesn't help. I've went to his office hours and he is consistent in not being helpful. He assigns a textbook that he doesn't follow. He doesn't always tell you in advance if class is canceled. He just reads off powerpoints that you don't have access to unless you ask.
Professor Katz showed up 20+ minutes late to class every single meeting time. He read off of a PowerPoint and showed one example, was generally unwilling to answer questions. He did not assign a single homework assignment. He didn't post anything on mySJU, he doesn't have a tab that links the student to course information. DON'T DO IT.
He is a horrible professor. Don't attend his class because he is literally on the same topic for weeks. Homework and tests are online at MyMathLab. The tests are hard because they are only out of 15 questions so if you get a couple of them wrong, you are screwed. Plus, the questions are more harder than the homeworks he posts. DON'T PICK HIM!!!
He's often late, and if class is cancelled he probably won't tell you. This is a self taught class, he doesn't know how to teach at all! He's very disorganized, and he speaks very low. I'm honestly surprised he still has a job, especially after all the terrible reviews he gets every semester.
Professor Katz was just an okay professor. If you're coming into this class with a strong math background, you should be fine, but otherwise it's a real struggle because he never really explains anything thoroughly. Positive though was that all tests and hwk are online and open book, and you have 2 attempts for every test.
He made me cry, He's a horrible teacher ad person. The only redeemable quality is that all of his tests are online so cheating is easy, and recommended. Honestly I don't know how he's managed to teach in this school for so long because he obviously doesn't know how to do his job. Drop if you can, it's honestly not worth the effort.
Katz is a very bad teacher. He said that he didn't care if we showed up, since we are adults & that we have the choice to come to class or not, as long as we do what we need to do. In the middle of the semester, he starts unofficially withdrawing people who missed 25% of the class... but I thought attendance was optional? Also, he cannot teach!!!!
Katz does not know how to teach at all! He tried teaching us examples of derivatives, and didn't even know how to do it! On top of that, he seems bothered if you go to him after class with questions. Everything is online, which is great, because you will be teaching yourself. He says not to make excuses, yet makes excuses all the time!! Don't take!
Honestly, if you want to save your GPA, don't take him. You don't learn anything at all. You get a lot of online homework and online tests and you don't learn any of it until a couple of weeks later. Not understandable at all. Avoid at all possible costs.

He assigns so many homework that most are due the same day and take hours to complete. save your GPA and do not take this class with him.
terrible, terrible, absolute worst. He doesn't realize that he made a subject ten thousand times harder because he doesn't speak up in class. I have to fight to stay awake because of his monotone voice. Everything was online including the midterm and final but it was still hard.
Dr. Katz truly is a great teacher. Although he is soft spoken and nonchalant during his lectures, students can tell that he thoroughly understands the complexities of mathematics. His tests are one unit at a time and if you prepare well through the online HW assignments, you'll be more than fine taking the tests. Definitely would take again!
All homework and exams were online. It's possible to do well, but you have to work for it because his lectures don't help at all. If you read the online textbook and take notes, you'll be able to do the homework which model exactly what the tests will look like. Wouldn't take him again though.
Honestly, Prof. Katz isn't as horrible as others make him seem. I took him for stats and there were 2 midterms, a final, and a decent amount of hw. Everything was online, so it's really up to you if you want to do well in the class. The exams were fairly easy, as long as you understand the hws. Put in the effort and your grade will reflect it.
He's a great guy, but a horrible professor. He might seem really hard but he's not that bad. He tends to give a lot of HW and the fact that his tests are online makes it a win. He doesn't care what you do in class and this class is a self study class. He reads off slides and his lectures in general are boring.
The only good thing about this class is that the tests and the homework are online. He literally just reads off the slides. He talks really low. If you ask him for clarification, he will still read off the slides. Homework is long. He does take attendance. It's part of the grading criteria. I would not retake him. Too stressful for my GPA.
By far one of the worst professors I have every had. If you're good at teaching yourself math, then by all means go for it but if you seriously don't understand math or statistics, please do not take him! You will regret it, like I did.
Absolutely puts no effort into his class. Sits behind a podium & talks to thin air. Goes through his slides too fast. Doesn't post on blackboard. Professor Alexander Katz is honestly one of the most useless mathematics professors I have ever had to take in my scholarly career. His lessons are disorganized and barley pertain to the exams, his homework is online and thus aggravating to do for a subject like Calc or other Math, and attendance isn't necessary. If you can, don't take him.
The 'hilarious' tag is there because of how he constantly asks "do you understand" as he stares blankly at the students that don't care either way. If you had a passion towards mathematics (or even a slight interest), then Katz will take it and burn it. Horrible teaching practices, Ridiculous homework, attendance is unnecessary. Don't take him.
Tbh, hes a good person but hes bad at explaining things and hard to understand sometimes. He has an accent BUT you get used to it. He speaks low, and doesnt take attendance. Homework isnt that bad. I liked Katz, to be honest. I don't like how he doesn't write anything down on the board and constantly puts you on the spot, but he pushed me in class which was good. The problem is nobody respects him whatsoever, but if you show effort he'll put effort towards you. Tests are easy and online. HW manageable too. Learn to utilize StatCrunch.
Not sure what to say, can be an easy A. Attendence doesn't count, homework online on mathlab and tests all online on mathlab. You can work your way around the time limit and use study questions to help.
took for biostats. very caring professor, makes you smile. attendance isn't mandatory. can get the lecture ppts after class on a USB if you don't want to show up all the time. MyStatLab is a blessing. 3 tests/some hw online. follow the homework assignments, print them out, learn by the online examples, compare examples to test questions. not bad.

This prof is actually very smart. doesn't explain things well and confuses you even more. The class itself is boring, but I would recommend attending bc he remembers who shows up(usually up to 7 ppl) and can curve your grade. Everything is online. HW is your only source of learning. If you really wanna learn and interested in stats, don't take him
I actually never used his powerpoints, but his homework helps with tests. Everything is online so as long as you do his homework, you'll be fine for tests.
I took BioStat asynchronously, and Professor Katz was not very accessible. Still, so long as you keep up with the work and follow the syllabus, it is not hard to do well.
Self study class. His homework assignments really help if you study it.
Worst class ever would not recommend
I had professor Katz for bio stats and went to every lecture which was really helpful. Attendance is not mandatory but it helps you to do the homework. Homework was manageable, I averaged about 60 hours in total. 3 exams in total and my average was a 93. Many people complain but it is doable if you put in the work. He is a great professor.
I took Professor Katz for the spring of 2022 and had a great time. He is really sweet and has clear criteria of what the exams will be like, his tests were fair. He extended our homework if we ask for it, and responds to emails quickly.
Dr. Katz is smart, but not the best teacher. He speaks off his slides and doesn't teach. Gives 2 midterms and a final. First midterm was easy, but other exams had many questions that we never learned. Chegg was essential for an A. Gives 1 hw per week (they get longer each week). All hw/exams are through Pearson. Gives 2-3 attempts for hw/exams.
Katz is a very nice guy but his lectures make no sense. The homework is pretty difficult and attendance isn't mandatory. If you're good at math, taking him shouldn't be an issue, but someone like me who struggles at math, this is not the professor for you. He is very reachable through office hours and email but is hard to understand.
I have mixed feelings. I liked the multiple hw attempts, the midterms were similar to hw, and the overall workload was manageable. However, this class was entirely self taught. All he did was post slides. Pearson did everything for him. Im not good at math but I still did well, however if you arent confident in the subject I would still be cautious
