Great teacher who goes out of his way to make sure that students understand the material. Is passionate about his field and teaching....a VERY RARE combination. Would recommend taking any and all economics classes with him.
Great teacher, don't let the name scare you. He speaks English well. Tells relevent stories about his former homeland (inflation, etc.), very helpful, office door open. Tests are decent (multiple choice) BOTTOM LINE:I Recommend him.
He was one of the best teachers I've ever had. He really made sure his students understood the material, and told you exactly what you had to know for the tests. I recommend him- he actually makes you more interested in the subject!
Spent sooooo much time on the same stuff. Hard to understand through his accent. I felt like the whole class consisted of graphs that made no sense.
He's the best econ prof I've had so far!
Great Prof. Helpful, and have students' interest in mind. Reasonable exam. He certainly has the heart of a teacher unlike most prof.
A good professor to take. He is dedicated to his students and making sure they understand and not just memorize. His stories and analogies are very fun and easy to understand. I would recommend taking any econ class with this professor. He is the only prof. i had that said 'i love you guys!' Good prof. and a good guy at heart.
Professor Kovzik is one of my favorite professors. He's really funny and I don't think I'll ever forget him at all! I didn't talk much to him, but he's really approachable and is willing to help. Just ask! I love his stories, and he's really funny! He makes sure you really understand the material!
4 test (50 multiple choice questions). Test is from test bank and like online book quiz which is hard because you have to apply concepts the the test questions. He has howework problems which you learn the most about intermediate micro. Since there was a lot of material to cover, he teaches you the basic and then you have to read the book.
4 test and 4 quizzes. He drops your lowest quiz and test score as long as you don't get a zero or something on one of them (makes you actually try on all 4). He's a nice guy and gives you an extra credit chance for an easy 5 points and also gives you free points on two of the exams. Don't read the book just do the study guide ?s and go to class.
Seriously though, how great is that guy? He's lived it, and now he teaches it. Fascinating stories and helpful teaching techniques. Rock solid.
Great prof! He really wants you to understand and learn the material. One on the better teachers i've had in my life. he's also hilarious
Awesome professor, hilarious, makes u understand it. Great stories
My favirite college professor EVER! Super Stories. Very helpful during office hours, he WANTS you to understand it and cares about individuals. But: Behave in class! Don't sleep, don't leave early without telling him.
Interesting professor, I enjoyed his stories about Russia. Great sense of humor too. I found the class rather challenging though. It's important to attend class. I also read the chapters in the book and did the study guide questions before the test and got decent grades. Very reasonable. Cares about his students and wants them to do well.
Awesome Guy!!! Super helpful during office hours. If you go to class regularly and do the study guide questions, you'll get a good grade.
Very funny and helpful professor. The class was pretty easy. Consists of four exams and four quizzes. Offers extra credit.
Take this class. He is very helpful really wants his students to understand. If you have questions just go to his office hours. Must attend class.
Take Kovzik's class. his grading is very fair and he explains things well.
I liked him, but felt the curve was wacked out. Likes to have people come to him for help, if you don't need to, go anyway.
Go to class, listen to lecture, take notes and do the study guide. He is always available for extra instruction and wants the students to get the best grade they can.
I've had this guy twice, both classes were pretty awesome. As everyone has already said, go ask for help if you need it, or just to chat. Likes to relate examples to an average student. You can't go wrong with this guy, just read the textbook a lot.
He's an awesome professor, probably my favorite professor I've had. He does a great job explaining concepts and everything, and is easy to listen to. I really like how he uses a lot of examples to relate things to you to make it easy to understand. He is a funny guy too he makes us laugh a lot in class. I would definitely recommend him.
Super nice guy!! But very hard to follow. Kind of confusing. Tests are hard. Do the study guide.
He's a reall awesome professor and explains the concepts very well. It's not an easy class, but it's do-able. I barely ever used my textbook because he's so thorough in class, but I suggest getting the study guide. He's a funny guy and easy to talk to and ask for help. Overall, a decent class.
Prof. Kovzik is entertaining, he does go off on little rants about Americans, but it is not meant in a mean way. It is somewhat difficult to take notes in this class as he jumps from one thing to another and has sloppy handwriting on the board. YOU HAVE TO READ THE TEXTBOOK and do the study guide provided. He tests from a test bank.
Passionate about the subject he teaches. Has a thick russian accent, but if you pay attention you should have no problem understanding him. He wants you to do well, but is not going to hold your hand. On days of exams, he skips and has another teacher admin. the exam which is irritating, but overall a good prof.
Great professor! Accent is not bad, it's "cute". He makes the subject interesting and explains what we need to know for exams. Definitely recommend selecting his classes.
He really takes his time to push concepts through, but to do well in the class you need to read the book.
Great professor, if you show you're trying to put in a great deal of effort he'll bump your grade up! The exams are kind of hard unless you read the book (he doesn't really talk about what's going to be on the exam- he just tells stories)
Awesome professor!! Funny and makes the class fun. I went into the class not having an interest in Economics at all and now I love it! Definitely recommend him out of any other econ teacher. Also, read the book and you will do good on the exams!
Funny teacher! Always makes jokes to keep the class enjoyable. Went in not likeing Economics at all and now I love it! I definitely recommend taking him out of any other Econ teacher! Read the book and you will be fine for exams.
Really knowledgeable, really nice, really helpful. This class can be hard, but read the book and ask for help if needed, and you will be fine. He will always make time to help you. I would recommend him to anybody, he is the best at Oshkosh
What a funny man. He tells great stories and illustrates complex concepts in unique ways. Attendance is optional, but I recommend it -- exams will be very tough if you don't, since he doesn't exactly adhere to the book when teaching. Occasionally wanders off on tangential stories that have nothing to do with anything, but at least he's entertaining
GOOD PERSON WITH GOOD ATTITUDE. HORRIBLE TEACHER. I went to class every time and paid attention. Lessons don't flow at all. HIGHLY don't recommend him.
Very hard exams. Really funny guy. Attendance is not mandatory but I recomend going since he doesn't follow the book. Love the class in general. He curves your grade ip
He's awesome! Does everything possible to make the class easy. Don't need the book. I bought the $50 study guide, very helpful. He's got a russian accent but not hard to understand at all. Tells great stories and cracks anti communist/liberal jokes. Played on the Soviet Union National Basketball team he said. Overall, awesome guy and great teacher!
Great guy, and he's very knowledgeable. He grew up in Belarus so he knows what it is like to live in a Command economy versus living in a market economy. He also makes the tests more manageable compared to other econ classes. Couldn't recommend him more.
Can relate well to econ systems around the world as he is from Belarus and has global experience. 3 exams and 1 group powerpoint presentation. Exam questions seem to not be from the book as I read every chapter that was assigned. Learn everything about the former USSR, and soviet bloc countries, famous economists and frameworks for ES.
He's easy going, if you put effort in through the semester he will help you. Get the study book, helps with the exams. Tries to be humorous to lighten the subject.
He is so nice and funny. He always talked about how you can go see him in his office for help. The content is a little tricky. You should probably look over the study guide that you can buy. His stories are really good and he has a lot of experience related to the area he teaches.
Great and funny Professor. Go to class and you will get good grades. Overall, would take again (:
Professor Kovzik was the best professor I could have asked for especially considering it was only my first econ class I have ever taken. He is super helpful. Use his office hours because the material is really hard and you need to read the book to fully understand. Overall, super funny and made class fun.
Very funny, great professor all around. He is from Belarus and grew up in the Soviet Union, so he has an interesting perspective on the world of economics. Going to see if I can get him again for higher level courses.
Very nice guy who is always willing to help. Has an interesting way of explaining things which may be very helpful in some situations bu also confusing in others. Can be both a positive and a negative. Very personable and reasonable teacher. Almost no homework ever. Tough tests.
Kovzik is a good guy. From the Soviet Union so he has a interesting perspective on economics. Lectures get a bit long and boring but he does his best to keep you engaged. Tests are pretty hard, however he does offer extra credit at end of semester. Don't need the textbook, just get the study guide.
Took this class for a 3 week summer course. Didn't study, but participated in discussions in class. Didn't do well on the three exams, but he passed me with a B-. I assume that he counted participation, attendance and one assignment grade. He will do anything to make you pass the class. Great guy!
Professor Kovzik is by far my favorite professor I have had. I enjoy listening to his examples, he is very funny and does his best to help you learn. He also bumps up grades at the end of the semester. He is a very intelligent man and I cannot wait until I have him for future classes.
You can tell that Professor Kovzik knows what he is talking about, but his lectures are a bit all over the place. I ended up teaching myself from the book and the study guide. He bumps up your grade at the end of the semester as long as you put effort into the class. If you have a good understanding of Econ, take his class; otherwise, I wouldn't.
Great professor, great guy, funny and entertaining in class but the class is difficult.
Amazing Econ professor. Talkative and relates econ to daily life, making it easier to understand. Exams are hard, but not his fault, questions are from a test bank, he does not write them up. Make sure to do the readings, study the study guide, and attend class for good grade. He is welcoming and understanding. Talk to him if you need help.
Attendance is not mandatory at all. Amazing guy, super funny. Realizes the life of a college student. No homework what-so-ever. Go to review days and you'll be fine. Graded off 3 tests and a quiz, that's it. Class material is hard, but he tries to simplify it to make it easy. Funniest stories you'll ever hear. Such a great class/professor. 10/10.
So, it seems like this review is out of place. I'm sure this guy is great for upper level classes. But, for the love of god, DO NOT take him for econ 106. He goes on tangents and doesn't get to the info you actually need. Like, don't get me wrong, I like the guy a lot. He's just not the right person to teach entry level Econ.
Prof. Kovzik is a great person. He teaches by telling real life examples, not through PowerPoints. Read the book and do the study guide and you will be fine. There is a lot of opportunity for extra credit.
He very clearly cares about getting you through the course. My only complaint is that he is hard to follow. He tries to describe Economic concepts with abstract examples that make no sense. You really have to read the textbook and go to his lectures and combine the material to make any sense of what he is saying. Otherwise, he is fine.
He was an outstanding professor! I enjoyed going to his classes and hearing his lectures and his life backstories. He truly cares about your learning and understanding of the subject. Opportunities for extra credit are there which can really bump your grade up. One of my all time favorite professors and would take upper level courses with him.
Prof Kovzik is a great guy and the funniest professor, but his teaching style is difficult to understand. He uses real life examples to explain a concept, but most of the time he does not define the concept he is explaining. I used the study guide and lectures to get through the class. Make sure to say hi to him in the hallways!
Awesome. Take him
Incredibly caring guy, great teacher. There are only 3 exams and 1-2 quizzes for your grade so you need to do well on tests. . Class material may be difficult for some people but if you pay attention he makes it very clear what to study. If you get the study guide and can answer most of the multiple choice questions you will do great
Good professor, funny guy. Tough exams but he uses a pretty good curve.
I LOVED this prof! His lectures are awesome, and he makes the content easy to understand. Overall funny and awesome professor. He gives basically a letters worth of extra credit. Dont bother buying the book, invest in the study guide!!!
Really great professor. Super pragmatic and student-oriented. He basically tells you every question on the test, picks the simpler test questions that won't trick you. He verbally tells you "This will be on the test" a couple times a day. Didn't have to open the book he lectures so well. If you show up and study it's an easy class to do well in
Professor Kovzik is great! He makes the class interesting and explains the material well. I really enjoyed going to his lectures! He wants all of his students in class to succeed and he will do everything he can to make sure they do. Do the extra credit he gives. It is so worth it. If you have the chance, TAKE HIM! You will not regret it!
This guy is awesome, I should have failed but he passes almost everyone and curves the class. He is very nice and genuine. I recommend taking him as he is very knowledgable about economics.
He's a funny and caring professor but taught in a way that was kind of hard to learn. He taught in simple terms but exams were worded with technical terms which made it hard. He cares about his students passing and offers extra credit at the end of the semester. I went up a whole letter grade after all the extra credit.
Tough class, funny guy. He definitely tries his hardest to make the class as easy and comprehensible as possible, but in the process, I believe he can make it even more confusing. It's tough to do well on the exams and homework, but he always says, "don't worry. If you come to me, I will help you." Go to his office hours, and he will not fail you.
He has been one of my favorite professors. Only graded off of 3 exams and 1 quiz. Highly recommend just the study guide notes. He verbally says, "This will be on the exam." He is awesome.
Professor Kovzik is an amazing guy! He is very supportive and will help you whenever you need it. I struggled throughout the semester with his class solely due to the fact that it was online, but the lectures were live. For me, this class is a class that should really be taken in person. If you get a chance to take him, do it!
Only grade in the class is through exams which the average is around a 65-75. Extremely difficult of a class for an Intro Gen Ed. During lectures his notes are unintelligible and he is quite difficult to follow since he does not explain thoroughly. Would not recommend if you want a grade that will actually help your GPA.
I thought his lectures were useless even though they were mandatory (good thing I took it online). A lot of ranting and did not really cover the material covered on exams. I find this pretty typical of econ professors. I taught myself from the textbook. I would buy the textbook and study guide to teach yourself, which is not too hard.
Although it isnt required, he takes attendance on most days, and counts it towards extra credit in your final grade. As long as you show up, he will most likely give you a generous curve in the end. Which is good because the class is 100% lectures and incredibly boring. We never used the textbook once.
He has sloppy handwriting and I can't understand him
He's honestly an amazing guy. He cares a lot about his students and will do anything to give you a passing grade. The class is just lectures, no homework, and your grade is from a few exams, so show up and you'll be fine. He makes the content relatable and easy to understand. He is super funny too! Take Professor Kovzik!!
He was a very nice guy who was always willing to explain things again outside of class. The issue is that his accent makes him hard to understand, and while he's lecturing he sometimes doesn't know correct grammar which makes things more confusing. If you ask him to explain something to you, he's happy to, but his explanation still doesn't help.
Prof Kovsik was an amazing professor. I have taken two of his classes, and both were great. Please remember that he is always willing to help if you do not understand the material. He truly cares about all of his students and wants everyone to succeed.
Tough class overall. Exams were crazy difficult at times, and the class was only graded on 3 exams, 1 quiz, and one extra credit assignment. He's not a bad professor and really does care, just following his lectures and drawings on the board at times is time spend in frustration and confusion. However, would take again.
Prof Kovzik is a great guy who truly cares about his students. His lectures aren't very well structured and they can get confusing but he does a good job tying the concepts to the real world. This is a difficult course, but if you want an A and you work hard Kovzik will get you there. He's also hillarious, would definitely take again..
I absolutely loved Professor Kovzik. He helped me whenever I reached out and you could tell he truly understood the material he was teaching. I enjoyed going to his class because of his funny personality and the way he cares for his students. He truly wants you to succeed! This class is definitely a tougher class but if you try you will do good!
Extremely hard class but he's a great professor, he's very accommodating and truly cares about his students. Even though I didn't do that great he was always willing to help me when I was confused.
Professor Kovzik does an amazing job connecting you to the material in such a way that its very entertains to be in his class. He tells many stories in his class and connects the world to economics in a way that is very understandable. He is very approachable and accommodating. I would 100% take his course again he is a very great teacher!
Take his class! He won't let you fail. He cares a lot about his students, and he is very charismatic in class, which makes listening to boring economics less boring. He is very accommodating. He likes to put questions on the exam directly from his sample exams too.
nothing at all hes cool
This class is very lecture based, with about 3/4 tests that will make up your entire grade. He is a great professor that has a great understanding for the subject.
Very thick Russian accent took a week or two to get used too. He yaps a lot and gets lost with what he is saying. As long as you show up most of the time or have someone take your attendance you will pass the class. He makes it where most of the class is failing till end of semester. Then explains you all pass no matter what. So overall he is fine.
He was very nice and helped me pass the class, even when I wasn't doing the best. Do the extra credit assignments and study, it will help a lot. Only bad thing is he liked to talk about himself a lot and would get off track, but i guess that was fine overall.
Grading is only based on 3 exam, no homework's or activities graded except only 3 exam. Wording on these 3 exams are very tricky and confusing. Take the class but if possible a different professor is a must!
Talked to the class like he was our age, and shared lots of funny stories
Lectures the entire class, try to engage with him, make a good impression and study. He grades ONLY off of tests, extra credit and how much he likes you.
talks all class and dosent have any homework for us and the only thing that gets graded is tests. and these tests are the hardest ive ever taken. i passed macro with an A and this class does NOT compare. Harshest grading of any class ive ever experienced
Great guy, terrible professor. Starts lecture not explaining where anything comes from or giving any refresher from the principal class. No matter what he tells you, THE EXAMS ARE NOT LIKE THE HOME ASSIGNMENTS! If you actually want an A in this class, keep dreaming.
Great dude
