The best professor that I ever had. He is extremely clear and makes the class very interesting. Also, he is very approachable and enthusiastic about helping students learn.
So nice, very intelligent about a lot of subjects, gives suggestions for interesting outside reading and movies(ie: the movie Trainspotting )....Def. reccommend taking his class....just study a lot for the exams..there were 4, and he drops teh lowest one
Hard material, but great, great prof. You need to really study to get an A or B, but it's possible. Best there is for Physiology. If you have to take this class for your major, this is the one.
Excellent professor. Knows what he's talking about. Not an easy A, have to go to class and do readings, but you'll learn tons. Funny and interesting. Gives a great background for more advanced psych courses (esp. in behavioral neuroscience)
This is biology, not psychology, hard as HELL, but this guy will try to make u understand...U HAVE TO STUDY
Great class, great professor. It's not an easy course, but he really tries to help you learn the material. He's also really quick to respond to emails. If you HAVE to take Physio psych for your major, take it with him.
Material is pure biology & anatomy, however it is important for future classes like behavioral pharmacology. Lectures were bad, he makes things way too technical. we're psych majors, not pharmacy.
Extremely difficult to ace a test. The questions are very tricky and technical. However he is very clear and interesting. You can learn alot from this course.
I was so disappointed by his class. Abnormal is supposed to be the "fun" psych class, and all he did was read from his power point presentations the information that was in the reading. His exams were next to impossible.
inherently likeable, interesting, intelligent. presents technical info clearly with thorough explanations. not an easy class, not the easiest tests, but i can't imagine taking Physiological with anyone else
great guy, great teacher. the tests were reasonable given the difficulty of the material, which was extremely hard to a bio dropout. would be better if he let you drop the first grade if it was lowest.
hardest class in the world, barely taught in english, worked my ass off for a D and im a 3.6 student!!!!!! dont take it... fill ur psych requirements with a different course!
Avoid this class if possible, its really hard. However if youre a psych major and you have to take it, get KUSNECOV for the love of god, he is helpful and talks like the crocodile hunter. Prof. West or Otto is horrible compared to Kusnecov
what a nightmare this class was. i took it b/c of all of these happy ratings, but they must be a joke. he missed 1/3 of the class due to a family emergency, the tests were totally NOT based on his notes. good luck.
The lectures are very boring..thought it was going to be like abnormal psych but instead its like biology..the first exam was incrediably hard..asks very small details from the book that he does not go over in class..the hardest psych class ive taken so far..
Very unhelpful!!! Kore (TA) suck too! This class seem like it'll be easy, but u have to do ALOT of studying. A lot of science involved. Be up=to-date on readings, attend class, and take detailed notes. Exams a little tricky and he only gives 3 exams. He's out for everyone to fail!
God was there a lot of information! His tests were relatively difficult, you just really have to know your stuff- stick to his notes and the book and even try out the CD that comes with the book- I found the CD very useful...He's a very nice guy!
I took this course 3 times, once with Kusnecov, then with Otto, then with Kusnecov again. As hard as Kusnecov is, he's the better teacher. Highly recommend taking this course with him. You won't find better.
I took 2 of his classes (physio, drugs). He's intelligent and teaches moderately well. Content is somewhat difficult, but he does his best. Most of his lecture is online. Attendance to lecture is optional. Kinda funny in an unintentional way. Got an "A" in his class, but worked for it.
Overall, he is a good teacher.. presents material in a comprehensible way, but you will certainly have to work for your grade.. classes are optional but I'd recommend going.
DO NOT TAKE ANY CLASS WITH THIS PROFESSOR...I REPEAT...DO NOT TAKE ANY CLASS WITH THIS PROFESSOR....I got a D in the class and he said in the beginning we were getting a curve...NO CURVE...his tests are SOOOOOOOOO tricky and INCREDIBLY hard
Very difficult class. Should be a class for pharmacy students. If you are a psych major do not take this course. You will most likely do bad since you probably aren't so bright to begin with. Probably cake for pharmacy or bio or chem majors. Nice professor though. Have to read the textbook to pass
very difficult class, way too in depth for a psych course. im a psych minor, studied my a** off and still got a C+ when I usually get A's. by far one of the hardest classes ive ever taken. he is out to trick and confuse you on the exams, so watch out. dont take this course unless you absolutely have to.
I took his class a few semesters ago . . . tons of material but VERY intersting. Got a C+, but I still learned a lot. I can't relate to all these other reviews and think they are way too harsh. Probably bitter about not doing well.
i think the other ratings are way too harsh too...Prof Kusnecov is AMAZING!!! yeah the class is gonna be hard, but if u go to class & read what he tells u u'll be fine! he's sooo smart & just a great prof!! def difficult, but its great when u do well & know u worked hard for it...def recommended as long as ur not too lazy! love the australian!! =)
This call is quite hard, but it's interesting and the prof is helpful and tells you pretty much what's going to be on the exams. Do need to read the book though. It's a good class if you can put in the effort.
he is the man
VERY HARD material, but hes pretty clear. puts notes online but you have to go to class for clarification and explanations on the notes. NEED TO STUDY, a LOT. DONT wait till the last minute!! four tests.. drops lowest, so if youre satisfied with your first 3 grades, you dont have to take the (cumulative) final. also curves! 84 was an A.
Tough class but worth it, really learned alot of interesting material. He's a decent lecturer and seems like a nice guy. Don't take this class for an easy A, only if you want to learn. I recieved a C+...worst grade of the semester, but one of the best classes...would take it over anyway...
LOVE him!! even though the class was pretty hard, he was extremely good at explaining everything! i would go to class just to hear him talk w/ his austrailian accent! not an easy A but def worth taking it with him!
You learn a lot in his classes but he has trouble wording his questions on exams. He's a tough grader with tests that are really challenging. Not very easy to even get a B in the class.
Don't even bother with this professor. Excruciatingly hard exams, changes the syllabus on you mid-semester... if you're considering to get a decent grade in your Psychology courses, take something else. Your GPA will thank you.
Do not take if you are not a science major. Bio should be a pre-req to this class. Although the professor means well, I think he expects too much of his students and thinks we are smarter than we are. Also has pretty bad cut offs for grades, a B+ is an 88-89.9!. I am busting my a** and currently only have a B.
great teacher. you definitely do not need bio to do well in this class.. if you go to class and study, you will do well. Also, write the extra credit paper.. i thought mine sucked but I got 10 points added onto my final grade. easy B, if not A
The Class is fairly easy. If you are majoring in psychology this should be a breeze. I lost my book 2 weeks into the semester and studied for the exams with wikipedia, and got 80s on all of them...did the ec paper and got an A...just know his slides well
Awesome prof. His exams are entirely fair, and most of the information is on slides which he posts online (though passwords are given out for them in class.) There's extra credit on the final exam, and he doesn't take attendance. This class was kind of bio-heavy, but interesting.
I am extremely unimpressed. He clearly does not have a thorough understanding of the subject. He talks about receptors that don't exist and flagrantly misuses terminology on a regular basis. He has no idea how to respond to student questions effectively. Always late to class. I would not take any class of his ever again.
This guy's hard. Beware!!!! He'll remind ur finally out of high school. consults for washington's national mental heatlh institute . reviews million dollar grants (we skipped a class caus he was out of town for this). Def knows his stuff. With this and beh pharm (wagner), a definite must for those doing neurobio track. Yes I got an A. near killed m
This was a difficult class, and a lot of work. It was heavily anat/physio based. Attending the lectures is highly suggested, since there are some things that he mentions in class, that the book does not go over. I highly recommend bringing a recorder to record the lectures, since he relatively talks fast. Obviously, he knows his stuff.
HARD! I am an Honors Psychology major and have already taken physiological psych and this course was still really hard. He is a really nice guy and good teacher but there is no curve in the course and you must know 90% of the material to get an A. Kind of a cool way to teach but makes it very difficult to get a good grade.
it's not hard you all are just lazy.. dont be surprised because you have to study for a neuro class. he's a great teacher and really funny
Awesome teacher. Makes the subject very interesting and is very helpful. Definitely would recommend this class even if you're not a psych major.
AMAZING course, but not for the lazy. You definitely have to know your stuff for the exams, but its incredibly interesting material. Kusnecov is fast-paced, witty, and often funny. Truly loved Neuropsych with him, a must for Psych majors, highly recommended for anyone else!
2 tests + final, which were not impossible. I studied/ thought I knew the slides, but I could've gotten the same grade w/ random blind guessing. He doesn't curve exams, but there's a curve built into the grade cutoffs. He's a nice/ funny guy, but it felt like his class policies were created for his benefit/ self-esteem + teacher standing at RU.
A funny, witty, and overall great professor. He makes the already interesting material even better with his accent and side notes. To do well though you should expect to study a lot, simply skimming notes probably won't end well since the exams are pretty in-depth. Highly recommend for anyone willing to put in the work and interested in the course
AUSTRALIAN. material is interesting, he knows is stuff. 2 novels required to read. some EC given (this helps if youre border). for some reason made the final really hard but adjusted the grade cuttoffs a little for it. not a hard class but i know psych majors get scared when a little bio is involved. an A is definitely doable.
Okay this is how you do good in his class. Study every slide he has. Study notes. attend class. UNDERSTAND the details- (nerve firing/where the nerves transmit ect. Study every single day. His exams are VERY tricky/in depth. This professor will make you work hard, but you become vastly more intelligent. He will help you if he see's you trying
EXTREMELY hard class. Seriously, let this be a warning to you all. The guy is a GENIUS but his Neuropsych class is NOT for the lazy...no scratch that, it's not for anyone not willing to completely go crazy studying. I'm right on the cusp of a C/D and am nervous as hell for the final
omg I'm in this class right now too and I studied my butt off and I'm also in the c/d range. this class is impossible to pass. I studied for a week straight and I still failed the 2nd exam. I'm sure I'll blow the final too at this point.
Honestly it's unbelievable that this guy doesn't curve his course. Just because he knows all the info easily doesn't mean we do!! I am failing misserably, along with MANY other students in the class who I have spoke to, and we all studied for days before the exams. Forget passing the final. DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE WITH HIM!!!!
unbelievable class. nearly impossible, and im a straight A student....
I agree to most of the post this prof explains everything in detail, not hard at all when he explains it. it stays in my head but his exam is crazy hard! very tricky! im barely passing this class together with my classmates ive talked to. he doesnt curve! although he give extra credit but it doesnt make sense bec its only 1.5%?> like really?!
Neuropsychology is a course that should be reviewed daily because it does have a lot of information. He teaches at a steady pace, will answer questions AFTER class, and gives extra credit that can really help your grade. If you are not willing to dedicate time in his class, then you should already expect to do poorly. His exams are doable.
Not a bad teacher, despite the reviews.Only covered 2/3 of the syllabus. How you do or the amount of studying you'll have to do depends on how well you can visualize the different systems and your propensity for biology. The two books were the highlight of the class; if you're interested in abnormal psychology you'll definitely enjoy reading them.
terrible. if hes gonna teach without a textbook he should at least make slideshows detailed, and explain things better. don't take this class
Prof Kusnecov is a genius. Yes his exams are tough. Yes the material is heavy. And yes sometimes neuropsychopharmacology isn't very interesting. However, Prof Kusnecov is knowledgeable and helps you understand everything. His exams are all essay-format so you're forced to study. Attendance isn't required but he's a great lecturer. And he's Aussie.
DO NOT BELIEVE THE BAD REVIEWS! He is a great professor. If you are not willing to work hard you will fail his class. His exams are tricky but if you study A LOT you should have no problem. TAKE THIS CLASS YOU WILL LEARN A LOT!
This last years summer class. I commuted and worked, and prof was VERY understanding. provides notes. lectures an interesting mishmash of brain chem, drug cartels, personal factors, culture. Assignments were take home, 2-3 exams. Mix of mc and written, but he let you know what to expect. HBO doc on addiction and other clips. Good class.
He is very understanding and patient. He wants you to understand the material he teaches. Like a 300 level course, you have to initiate contact with him. His exams are a little tricky, but they really test your knowledge instead of memorization skills.
excellent professor. very into teaching and gets your attention
I took him for Neuropsych fall 2012. Had no idea what I was up against, but incredibly happy I took him.. YES. Kusnecov is a hard professor. I slacked off most of the time & studied my butt off for the final & ended up getting a C in the class. If you put more than minimal effort, you'll get a better grade. What you give is what you get.
Take this class if you actually want an education! Prof K is a genius. I caught something that contradicted his lectures and told him about it and he wrote the writer of the TEXTBOOK and corrected him. Total boss. Read the chapters multiple times, record the lectures and you'll learn a lot. You can find the book online for free. Expect to work.
Don't trust the good reviews below, they're lies!! Its so hard to follow his lecture because he makes no sense--spot on "scattered brain" comment. Plus he really doesn't care about your success as a student, he'll make you cram, ignore your emails, and then give us an exam with only FIVE questions on it worth 30% of our grade. GRADE 3 essay exams.
Assignments easy. Read and answer questions at home. Also vid assignments (mainly documentaries) that require you to answer questions. Lectures interesting. Topics - meth, heroine, acid, weed, ecstsy. No textbook, but recommended reading in syllab for those who need it. lectures clear, and notes posted. Exams not hard. Tells you what to study.
Kusnecov seems to fill people with anxiety with his emails before exams reminding students if they don't show up to class, then they would be at a significantly great disadvantage. I've never written a review for a professor in my 3 years here at Rutgers but wrote one for him because people have to know how he is. Attendance is MANDATORY. Good luck
Class is interesting, BUT IS ALOT OF SCIENCE. Don't come in thinking its like any other psych course, cuz this class requires alot more work. DO NOT SKIP CLASS. Trust me, dont do it. He is a good professor and does want to help, its worth to take his class if you genuinely want to learn.
If you have to take this class take it with someone else. Anyone else. This class was ridiculous. 3 exams, and 1-2 quizzes a week that are just as long and hard as exams. I did about 3 hours of homework a week plus all the countless hours of studying and my grade does not reflect that. Exams are clearly meant to trick the students.
The hours of online quizzes/documentaries per week only count for 20% of the grade, and difficult exams are the other 80%. Lectures are hard to follow and fast paced because he goes on off-topic tangents for 20 minutes at a time & puts almost no info on the slides. Rude/unhelpful over email, refuses to give any type of study guides
Overall I learned a lot in this course. It's not an easy A though. Weekly 40-questions quizzes online that require you to read the entire chapter of that week's lecture and exams can be tricky. There are lots of documentaries of 1 to 2 hours of duration to watch too. Recommended if you're genuinely interested in learning about drugs.
Don't get distracted by his charming looks and pleasant Aussie accent, very well educated, conducts his own research and discusses class topics thoroughly during lecture. Tests can be judged difficult upon face value because they make you think and apply knowledge gained in the course. learned a lot enjoyed the class.
Tremendous course. Dr. Kusnecov is a great lecturer. Content is engaging and thorough. Exams are powerpoint and lecture heavy. Be present, be attentive. This course is rigorous. Your knowledge will be tested. For those who are interested in learning more about drugs and their pharmacological effects, this is the real deal. Highly recommended.
You need to really know all of the material (even the stuff you may think is irrelevant) to do well on his exams. 20% of your grade is quizzes (15 of them, 40 questions a piece). Very poor professor in terms of lecture, very disorganized, and expect to listen to a lot of "ums". Overall, extracred got me an A, one of the tougher psych classes at RU.
Professor Kusnecov took a really expansive subject (Drugs and Human Behavior) and made it really interesting and fairly easy to understand. He tries to maintain the same structure between units, while making the material fun and relevant to students. Exams are basically straight from the online quizzes, and documentaries are interesting. Great.
I LOVE Dr. K!!! Drugs and Human Behavior is one of the best classes I've ever taken. If you are interested in how the brain works and how it makes you act, you will love this course too. Quizzes are straight from the text book but exams are a little tricky, study hard. You have to work for an A but its worth every minute!!
Tests are entirely based off it lectures. Quizzes are just for extra points. He focuses more on the neurological side of drug affects so if you've never taken neuro psych, good luck. very knowledgable and hes australian which is cool i guess. other than that not the worst yet one of the hardest by far
This class is super interesting but sometimes he is hard to follow. He is clear what is going to be on the exams but it is A LOT of info. Overall I recommend, just know it's no easy A. Weekly online quizzes are kind of annoying because it doesn't pertain to the exams but if you take book notes you should be okay. Slow grader too.
I enjoyed this class a lot. Going to class, listening, and handwriting notes helps a ton. There are online quizzes each week and a couple quizzes on documentaries, but they aren't bad at all. Prof. Kusnecov teaches the material pretty clearly and is interesting and funny. I got A's on all the exams, but you do have to work!! 10/10 recommend
loved this class! having neuroscience background is super helpful. this class also aligns really well with Prof Shors Abnormal Psych so you could kill two birds with one stone in that aspect. lots of extra credit on the final and gives you what you need to know for exams.
This class does not follow the book at all. Lectures are confusing as the professor draws things that are difficult to see and most of which are never on the exam. Exams are extremely difficult. If you want to take a Neurochemistry course, this is for you. If you want to take a basic course about drugs, take something else.
This class is very neuroscience heavy. Don't take this class if you only want to know about drugs. 80% of the material is about brain chemistry. Of course, if you want to learn about that stuff and have background in this topic, then by all means, take it. But as someone who is only minoring in psych, this class was extremely difficult.
a drugs and behav course, so if you think chem effects on biology and beh is not going to happen (it does and you learn how), take something else. never takes attendance. worked hard for my B - he just posted curve 70% got B or more; don't get 80% chem comment (more 30/40). a textbook you actually read (exams on lectures)
I'm taking the hybrid summer class. I'm doing well, but it is the hardest psych class I've taken. I pick up on things faster than most people and I'm struggling with some of the neuroscience topics he's covers. I recommend only if you're willing to risk a low grade or if you really want a cohesive picture of drugs and their pharmacological effects.
very interested class but if you're willing to sacrific a C, do not take it. kusnecov is very unhelpful and gives no guidance for the exams (no study guides). very lecture heavy and seems as though he doesn't even care about his students and their grades. told us exam 2 the average is usually a 65 so i just don't get why he doesn't make it easier
This class is hard for anyone who hasnt taken neuropsychology yet. I would highly recommend taking it before taking this class. It was also by far the hardest psych class Ive taken at Rutgers and I am a senior ( Ive never gotten below a B+ in any class) IYou need to know a lot of brain biology to get an A or else you will do average at best.
Makes material somewhat interesting for students but is just a crappy person overall. Class is also not as easy or fun as it sounds, unless you are into chem stuff. Overall he is an ok professor but he is very rude to students at times and is behind the times on somethings.
He has chapter quizzes, you are supposed to read the chapter from the textbook and then take the quiz, but you don't really have to use the textbook, QUIZLET! the exams are a combination of MC and written answers but the written answers arent that bad. Honestly just go to class and take notes, and you'll pass! it really isnt that hard!
straightforward professor, knows the material really well. but lectures are boring and he tends to go on tangents. test is a mix of lecture material and textbook material. pretty easy A
condescending with giving feedback, makes mistakes when giving exam times/due dates but does not compensate for them, lectures are very dry and disengaging, tough grader when it comes to written responses, ignores emails, overall not worth it to take him
I took this course in the summer but wish I took it throughout the spring semester. Drugs and Human behavior was really interesting. I would recommend if you're into Neuro. His lectures were clear and the exams were not as bad as people say they are if you make time to study. He is lecture heavy, but a lot of the info was easy to understand.
Though the subject is interesting, Professor Kusnecov's lectures were extremely dry and disengaging. I had to chug coffee before almost every single class because I would fall asleep. His weekly quizzes were quite easy (open book!) but his exams were brutal. He's also lowkey condescending so take that as you will.
His lectures are decent, but he often comes across as condescending with feedback, especially when you've put in a lot of effort. He frequently brings up concerns about AI use, and even if you're doing the work honestly, you're still at risk of being accused of misconduct. It feels like he's more focused on policing students than supporting them.
