This guy is the man. He wore pink high tops to our class as a joke. Dont be scared becuase it is a math class becuase you dont do one calculation all semester. He does not require a book, and class is half the time once a week, becuase you are in the computer lab. He also does the computer exam 4 u.

What can I say, this guy ROCKS MY SOCKS! His classes are easy as hell, if you want an easy, laid back class take one of his, it is IMPOSSIBLE to fail!

So scared of this class until taking it with Dr. Olsen. He is wonderful and wants you to understand the stuff, knowing that most of his students are health majors and not math majors. He even has games and study guides to help. Totally great guy.

Olsen is a fantastic professor. His class is easy but yet I still feel as though I am learning. He does not require a book which helps also. I would recommend him to anyone.

Prof. Olsen is the nicest professor at UMass Lowell, he is extremely funny and very understanding. He constantly makes you laugh and you actaully enjoy his class. He is a very helpful professor and his clarity in explaining management calculus is amazing. He is well worth taking the course over the summer or at night. HE IS GREAT!!!

Nicest guy ever! If you need stats for your career, I wouldn't recommend taking him. But if you need to get Stats over with, take him! We had class once a week, no hw, 2 tests and 2 comp quizes. He tells you exactly what you need to know for all of them. No textbook. Very understanding, doesnt want you to stress over his class. Awesome, sweet guy!

I am an older student and he is one of the best most helpful teachers ever, lots of handouts,study guides,emails, uses online text and many computer websites, lab is great with spss/excel - already used in my other courses, you can do well - like online courses - if you skip some classes - but you will learn a lot more attending his classes

The absolute best! Will give a permission number to anyone, no matter how full the class. Gives 3 weeks for eeach test. Lecture once a week and the lab once a week for 20 minutes. TAKE HIM

One of the best people I have ever met in my life. He is so incredibly smart, caring and HILARIOUS. I had him for a Mgmt Calc & Intro to Stats and got an A in both. Take these classes and I promise you that you will do well. He will tell you that his job is to make sure you do well. He gets it. He will also tell you awesome stories not about math.

Olsen is the best! I took stats at a different college and did horribly so i had to retake it this summer. So needless to say i wasnervous about the class but heis an AWESOME prof. You will get an A if you take this class. You don't ever have to go to class. There is a midterm and final that he reviews right before the exam and you can take them over as many classes that you need and he wont grade it until you are ready. He will help you with anything you need. He has lots of jokes that keep class entertaining. Best class!

Professor Olsen is a pretty laid-back professor. I took Intro to Statistics during the summer, and the course was great. His lectures are clear and concise, we didn't even need a textbook, and he reviewed the material before each test. He sometimes went on tangents in class, but he's pretty funny and genuinely cares that students learn his subject.

TAKE HIM! Prof. Olsen is THE MAN! He is hilarious when it comes to his lectures and is wicked helpful if you don't understand a specific concept. His exams are tough, but his reviews are always helpful. He clearly wants all students to do well.

Professor Olsen is a great guy, very knowledgeable, funny, and can relate to the students (though he has been teaching for many years, doesn't forget his struggles as a student). As long as you show up, put in an effort, you will get a passing grade. Online text used free, but college is mandating textbook for all MAT courses starting in January.

If you want to take a fifth class, go for it, but don't expect to retain much. He is nice to a fault; he wants you to pass whether you learned or not. No hw, no papers, 2 exams that are impossible to do poorly on. If you want a class that will take away from your stress instead of add to it, this is it.

Literally the best professor I've ever had. He's hilarious and always ALWAYS there for you if you need something. Even learns everyone's name. You don't have to pay much attention in class, you can pass with minimal effort. But if you pay attention, you learn A LOT about statistics and stats programs. Excellent professor.

If you can manage adding another class to your schedule, add Intro to Stats because it's not stressful at all. Two tests only, midterm and final, that are really hard to do poorly on. You learn how to use SPSS, a stats program, but don't learn how to do the pen & paper math. If that sounds like what you want in a math class, take this funny guy!!!

I failed Intro to Statistics the first time around because I had a prof that was TERRIBLE. I took it again with Olsen. He is so funny and the class is crazy easy. You will mostly use SPSS to complete classwork and tests, and for the two written tests he does give, he gives exam reviews in class. SUPER easy, and you actually learn the material.

Going into it I was pretty nervous because it had been a few years since I had taken a math course, but I don't regret taking Olsen one bit. Everything is done on SPSS. Gave out like 3 HW assignments, and 2 super easy midterms and final exams. His class fills up quickly so keep an eye out!

Jokes and puns are a daily occurrence in this class. I took it over a 4 week period in the summer. His love and knowledge for the subject is obvious and makes the class more fun. He loves to get to know students and wants to see everyone succeed. "If you plan on failing, this isn't the class for you."

Really easy professor, really wants everyone to do well. Taught us how to use a program to complete the Stats problems. You really just have to show up and thats it.

Professor Olsen could have been a better professor. 3 homework assignments, 2 exams, and a final. The expectations and guidelines are clearly outlined. He gives you opportunity to get a higher grade on the exams and the homework you do in class. There is no book, and he provides you all the notes.

Easiest class ever. Prof Olsen makes it clear that attendance is not mandatory. There are 3 homework assignments which he shows you how to do step by step, 2 exams, and a final. He makes the class essentially fail-proof, and sends the notes for the lecture beforehand. Before exams he also sends out some notes as a study guide.

After working for 12 years, this class was just what I needed. Easy to understand and all the basic statistics in a practical applied approach with latest software ,free online texts, notes, calculators/ graphers that give professional looking results in seconds rather than hours when done by spending(wasting) time with hand done graphs/formulas

Alexander Olsen is the best STATS professor here at UML. I took this class my second semester freshmen year and I did not use one brain cell in this class. As long as you listen to what he says in class then you will get an A. He give out 4 homework's and two exams and one final. The two exams are paper exams and the final is a computer final.

Best professor ever. If your not exactly a "perfect" math student- Have no fear he is honestly there to help. He truly cares about the students and wants them to do their best. He made a class I was nervous about the one I look forward to weekly. There aren't enough words to describe how amazing this professor is. Amazing is an understatement.

Need more professors like him!! He makes it easy to learn and if you don't understand something, he's willing to always explain it again. Awesome professor!! I took both courses with him and he's EXCEPTIONAL!!! Wish I had more of his classes to take!

Professor Olsen is the professor you want when your class is 7-10pm on a Wednesday night. I didn't want to skip because the time just flew by even with a dry subject. He is kind and funny and an expert in his field. No book which was great and he'll go above and beyond to answer any of your questions.

Professor Olsen is always so upbeat during class. He makes jokes the whole time and will answer any questions you may have. He does homework with you in class and is always available after for any questions or "autographs"

I really appreciated his use of computer software and website calculators/graphers for all problems. You learn what statistics to use, get results in seconds and how to interpret results in a modern, practical, applied and efficient way- no wasting time with hand calculations. As he says, its like using computer word processing vs typewriter

His ratings of 5 are because he is easy to learn from. He is very clear and effective- emails all instructions and screen shots on how to use software and solve stats topics. you will know the scenarios to apply what you learned in other courses, which I have done in my major for a research methods course. Great!

While Professor Olsen's class was pretty easy, it wasn't mindless. He made learning very simple, and allowed us to follow along in class to complete the homeworks. He almost always lets class out early, and is very understanding of people's situations. Expect to hear the same exact jokes and stories every class, though.

If you need to take a STEM class, make this one number one on your list. Such a great professor literally walks your through the bare minimum of homework! You have to try really hard to FAIL. Definitely take, especially if you're like me and are terrible at math.

Amazing teacher overall, he is very understanding and is lenient with you passing in assignments a day or two late. He goes over the homework assignments in detail so don't worry about being confused. He truly wants to see everyone succeed.

Excellent, effective, efficient course. I am in IT and his reputation for total use of software and technology is why i took him, Stress free leaning of basic stats with great applications. A prior rating that he struggled with technology is absolutely absurd -not at all true. Take him if you don't want to waste time with an antiquated approach.

Olsen takes such an intimidating data analytic program (IBM SPSS Statistics) and makes it accessible. Just show up to his lectures, ask questions, and follow along - you'll be fine! Olsen is a wonderful person who wants to make your life easier. He makes a point to make his class practical and I appreciated my time with him very much. Great class

no HW, just the midterm & final which he shows you how to do but using a different data. He's very sweet & enjoys student interaction. Has technical difficulties at time but it's silly & he figures it out. Wish he taught more classes but he is like 78 yr old. Take any class with him!!! easy A

Professor Olsen is the absolute best professor in the math dept. He doesn't explain useless information, but rather gets right to the point and informs you of what you need to know for the exams. He breaks it down so you understand every piece. It is literally IMPOSSIBLE to fail this professor's class.

Professor Olsen was one of the best professors I had this semester at UML. He really cares for his students and is very understanding. He does not care if you are late or if you show up to class. There are a few homework assignments that he walks you through and helps you complete. Nothing about the course was hard or stressful.

He goes over the homework assignments with you and he gives you clear run down on what the finals and midterm is going to look like. He records all class lectures so attendance isn't really mandatory. So glad I took him for a math credit !

Professor Olsen is the best. If you pay attention to his lectures you will learn a lot about stats. He understands that stats may not be your priority and is very flexible with due dates. He will show you how to do everything in stats online as opposed to by hand or with a calculator.

This course was very easy. We only had a midterm and final for work. The professor is super kind and caring, he offers a zoom option if you don't feel like coming into the classroom. He walks you through the midterm and final. He keeps the class very easy and fun. Super easy A!

Most people didn't show up to class, but I'd say go because someone needs to find out how he is the oldest in the math dept. and showing up to nearly every class with a can of soda. If I did that I'd be called a fatty. Anyways, he wanted everyone to do well and pass

Understood that Statistics was not everyone's main focus so he made learning easy. Lectures had been recorded which helped while doing homework as you could follow along with the in-class practice problems. As for the exams, they had been in-person on paper and you were allowed two days to take them. The final exam was done online. Amazing person.

He is a sweetheart. There are 3 hw assignments and 2 exams and a final. He doesn't put the grades up so you have to go up to him and ask what you got from the exam. But he genuinely cares about you a lot. Take him before he retires.

Very nice guy. Course comes with two exams, 3 Homeworks, and 1 take home final exam. If you ever need help he will always help, just be patient with him. Attendance is not required but show up if you can. He also holds zoom class for students who can't make it in person. Fairly easy class, just put in the work.
