cant understand him. he does explain. when u ask him something, he doesnt even know what he's talking about. stay away.
He does have an accent, but if you read the text before the lecture you shouldn't have a problem (at least be familiar with the terms). People make a big deal about him not being helpful, but I think they are looking for an easy way out...so if that's you, don't take him.
great professor, very smart and knows his material. You will sometimes have difficulty understand him because he has accent.very helpful during office hours, and very easy with his tests. He explains tests' questions very well to the point that he is about to tell you the answers. Quotes “nevertheless” "this is very simple” "no, look, look, look"
He really wants everyone to do a good job he just has a hard time explaining things. He tries to be very helpful if you ask. Easy labs! Overall though the class is tough, its PHYSICS!
Trys to be helpful. Usually messes things up then blames the class. Expected us to get 40 - 50% on most tests as an average!? A little low but he was right. I hope a new physics teacher comes soon! "This material is harder than before but nevertheless its easy guys"....F+....."its good but its not so good".
Although he receives quite a bit of criticism, I thought he was a good professor, and he tried to be fair to everyone who put effort into the class. The accent might be a problem for some, but really it wasn't that bad and I had no trouble understanding him ever. He was also very helpful outside of class.
well he is a good teacher.he gave me an a+. i was really happy.
He gives lots of extra credit, something that none of the other physics professors do. Lab reports graded easily. Not a very good lecturer, I had a difficult time learning anything from him in class, most of the work must be done on your own to understand the material.
i really liked him! he definitely would make time after lecture to help me understand concepts and work homework problems
he definitely would make time after lecture to help me understand concepts and work homework problems
i really like him!
Great professor, always willing to help and take time during and after class to answer any questions to make sure you understand. Homework system is great, he all but tells you the answers while helping you with the quiz's. Very laid back and fun class. He always has a funny story to apply to any subject. Very interesting background as well.
Hes awesome, hes so smart and loves physics, i worked hard for this class but its worth it. you do online homework and the labs are super easy. Always willing to change deadlines for hw and offers a lot of extra credit, its a hard class but after all its calculus based physics. tests are hard, and the grading scale is easier
One of my favorite professors. You'll never have anything on a test he didn't cover thouroughly in class. Don't bother buying the text, homework is online and all material is covered in class. His accent is not hard to understand, and makes class fun. Lightens up a lot after drop day.
Best professor on the planet.
Had him for college physics, his test get easier as you go along, but you do need to put time into studying, labs are easy and quizzes are only 5% of your grade. My final grade was a B+
Makes it easy to do well in class tons of bonus points on every test even has an entire bonus test. Horrible teacher, will be teaching yourself most of the material with the homework. He and tends to offend people. Isn't helpful at all your pretty much on your own for everything.
As far as physics professors at FGCU go, he's the best. Not particularly interested in his job, and the material itself can be frustrating but STICK WITH IT. He gives the opportunity of extra credit and the material does get easier as the course goes on.
I could not understand him AT ALL but he is nearly always available if you have questions or if something is unclear. He is very smart works well with the class. Exams are half conceptual multiple choice questions and the other half is multi-step word problems, and there is always extra credit. I liked him!
He's an engaging lecturer and makes class fun. The material come alive even if you're not a math/logic person. Gives lots of extra credit and stays after class to answer questions. It's physics, so you do have to spend many hours outside of the classroom working with the textbook to get an A. You must do the problems from lectures (and HW sets)!
Dr. Sakharuk is a good professor. The class is hard overall. Physics mainly uses Algebra. Although Calculus 1 is a prerequisite. He does give many extra credit opportunity.
Professor Sakharuk is one of the better physics teachers at FGCU. He walks you through problems during lecture but he will often go too fast. As long as you do your work and study you should pass with a decent grade considering he offers loads of extra credit.
Dr. Sakharuk is one of the better professors to take for Physics. Gives so much opportunity. He is always in a great mood.
Dr. Sakharuk is an ok professor. Physics 1 is really super hard. He is way better than Watanabe of course.
I have taken physics before, and this class is ridiculously hard. His lectures have been absolutely no help to me, you'll have much better luck taking the questions and typing them into google. The only good thing about him is that he lets you use formulas on your exams.
The class is difficult & his lectures are long & hard to understand. You'll do best if you sit up front and ask questions. LOTS OF OPPORTUNITIES FOR EXTRA CREDIT. If you put the work in, you'll get an A (starts @ 85). Also, in the 1st week of class, switch CRNS to be in HIS LAB instead of Panek's if you don't want to write long WEEKLY lab reports.
Dr. Sakharuk is useless in lectures. I never learned one thing. He is a great storyteller and will play trivia games. Says everything is eezy, and stupid. Makes sxist comments to girls. Goes too fast in lectures, asks if you have questions, but clearly will not slow down, so no one does. One good is his labs are short.
Dr. Sakharuk is a decent professor. He's a nice guy, but his lectures don't really help much. He gives you A LOT of extra credit though, so if you put in the work and do the HW, you can easily pass (a C starts at 60%, A at 88%). There's a lot of extra credit opportunity on each exam. He's very light on lab reports, so definitely take him for lab!
College Phys 1 w/ lab: Summer 10 weeks - Man that class is frickin' hard but he makes it bearable. Good guy, tries to make it as unstressed as possible. Some kids got 120's on the exams. I averaged about 70s on them and still got an A. I'd take him for phys2 if he taught it. Subject is super hard - studied all summer. Tons of Extra Credit on tests
Terrible professor. He hardly explain things at all. He does n't help very much
I took Gen Phy 1 with Sakharuk in a summer course and was a great experience. Professor Sakharuk is incredibly intelligent and highly knowledgeable in physics. He understands the material is hard for some people and gives plenty of extra credit to compensate. If you put in time to do the homework and ask questions you will do fine.
Awesome guy. One of the smartest people I've met. Gif you study, you will do good
"Feel yourself relaxed. Physics is eezy. Everything can be solved with physics. its like a church and he is the pastor sowhatever he says you have to follow. You have 60 do not worry you will pass with A. if you have 45 you may have to drop." - A.S. He is really nice and cool professor even though tests are a bit tough. you will learn lot from him.
Great and awesome professor. If you are passionate about physics you will learn a lot. His class is like a standup comedy. You will love his accent and his jokes and comments.
The first day of class he said and I quote, "I like to trick my students!" What kind of teacher says that!?!?!?!?! Terrible professor. He speaks very quietly too despite having a class size of almost 100.
This professor is so horrible. I know physics is a hard subject, but he is a horrible teacher and does not care at all whether you pass or fail. He does use the +- system, but you'll still fail. I studied hard and went to his office hours, and I'm still failing.. He is horrible at explaining material, gets mad if you don't understand, accent too!
Yes yes yes! Sometimes do not know about students but still pretends to know them and commenting on them like an @$$. He always says, I say do not worry!!!Physics is berry berry eeezy!!! you get 60 you get an A. if you get 45 see me after class. He is nice and funny guy but acts disrespectful to students.
He's really funny and engaging in lecture, but he's very confusing with his grading scale. His tests are really hard, but there is lots of room for extra credit. If you study somewhat, you can easily get an A. There's four tests & an extra credit conceptual final. The concepts are really tricky though. If you don't get an A, it's your fault.
Sakharuk is hard to understand, PERIOD. He has a very thick accent, goes WAY too fast, and isn't great at explaining how to do problems even if you sit down with him one-on-one. Throughout the class we were told to "be reasonably lazy" and "not to think". even studying and doing the best i could landed me with a D. NEVER AGAIN
If you don't get an A, it is all on you. So much room for extra credit. He scales fairly well and will bump you up if you go to class every day and come to see him in his office. Get a 90, no final. 4 tests and 1 extra credit exam plus extra credit homework. Go to class, go to labs, and you'll have an easy time in class. Accent a little tough.
As a physics minor, you will be taking this course, and Sakhuruk teaches it well. There were not many Exams or homework assignments, however what he does give is worth a lot. The class will implicitly require a (working) knowledge pof higher level maths, such as Vector Calculus and Differential Equations. Take this class; you won't regret it.

My favorite Professor in the Uni, funny, friendly, cares, and wants us to achieve in what is the hardest class. Never unfair, never cruel, I adore him. Funny guy too. Tests are 150100 style for the curve, but fair and easier than his homework. Free homework program too. As he likes to say, "Remember It is easssyyy! You can do it!"
This is basically gen physics the real deal addition. It's a super difficult class in the sense that what you're learning is hard, but easy in that all assignments are take home and the professor will push you to pass. He's got your back and no one better could be there. The class terrified me at first, but honestly I loved it. Don't give up.
AVOID. He is hard to understand and his teaching style is one I haven't seen before. He is too smart that he doesn't know how to dumb it down to those who don't know physics. He gets mad if you don't understand and is no help at all if you go to him for help. Literally laughed in my face when I asked for help. Don't take him if you want to pass.
Ive never heard of a class where you can fail literally every exam and still pass the class with a C. Stay away. Not that there is any good alternatives here at FGCU. Professor Sakharuk is clearly a very intelligent man. But his teaching skills are non-existent, and his patience with students is pathetic. A useless credit towards my education.
Class is hard as hell, but don't give up, there are only two tests, take home, and he will walk you through them. He's the best, just got to be willing to talk to him and not be scared off by the difficulty of E&M, its an intense subject, he cant make it not, so just give it your best and you wont fail. YOU CAN DO IT! (Also the rock is awesome)
This man is a genius. He is brilliant in every sense of the word and he's very very lenient when it comes to grades. The reason I feel people don't like him is because a lot of what he does is theoretical and relies on tools from mathematics to explain things. Bottom line is if you don't understand math, you won't understand physics.
I am a Pre-Med major and this was by far the most difficult class I have ever taken. Needed this class as a prerequisite and it is killing my GPA.
Horrible teacher. Made the class way to difficult in my opinion. Doesn't explain things very well. Be prepared to spend A LOT of time studying for this class. There's a lot of homework for this class so don't wait until the last minute. Also he doesn't show up for office hours.
Amount of homework is ridiculous. I've never studied so hard for a class. Pick another teacher if you can.
I failed every single exam and passed with a B. Do ALL the homework, get good grades on labs, do every extra credit possible, and you will be fine
He is very nice & knows a lot but not the best at teaching it. Some extra credit opportunities. Many short quizzes that he does in-class. Make sure you go to him & tutoring for extra help. He bumped me up in the end so as long as he sees you're actually trying, there's a chance you'll pass the class. Homework is long & tedious so stay on top of it.
Dr. S was so helpful! He always graded everything quickly - like tests were graded by the next class - we got opportunities to earn credit back on the exam through corrections if math errors were made, we could place out of the final if you have a 90%+, and we had a bunch of extra credit opportunities through the homework system. Definitely take!!!
This teacher will not help you if you don't understand the material. He is very smart, but he has very poor teaching abilities as he gets frustrated when students ask questions about things he thinks they should already know. He likes to lecture during or before class about how students need to try harder.
Yeah, I'd avoid him. The labs are very easy and the homework is online, but the tests are difficult if you are unfamiliar with physics. I'd only recommend if you have experience with physics (i.e. took AP Physics in high school), otherwise you'll be lost.
Stay on top of the homework and labs, there is a TON of HW, and the labs are easy compared to the rest of the work in the class so you will not want to miss out on the points by not doing either. Tests can be tough, however there is partial credit on free response + bonus questions. 60% minimum to pass helped a lot, but absolutely an intense class
The class was definitely challenging but the professor tried his best to make sure everyone understood. He sometimes comes off rough because of his accent but actually does want to help. Labs were easy, dont overthink them homework isnt bad just takes time. Just focus on doing lots of practice questions for the exam and youll be fine
Professor Sakharuk is overall a nice professor. I gave him 2 stars because he appears very unorganized and also likes to change rules about grades and the syllabus mid-semester. Even though I got an A (that I worked for) in certain cases, I didn't feel this was fair and benefited all students. I think he makes material harder than it has to be.
By far the worst prof I've had at FGCU. Do not rely on class to learn the material. You will have to study elsewhere. If you have a question, don't bother asking because you are already expected to know everything because everything is easy, simple, etc. Just stay away.
If you want to succeed in your physics class, I suggest to avoid this professor at all costs. During the 50 minute class lectures, only a few(1-3) problems will get covered. He suggests students ask any and all questions, but will get visibly (and audibly) annoyed if they arent up to his standard of intelligence. Dont waste your time or money.
At the beginning of the semester he wasnt bad, but after that his behavior was hostile. If you ask a question hell say I will not answer stupid questions or just yells look at picture, do you see this without answering the question. Does not post answer key for all exams, and will not respond to emails. Says work is garbage.
I did'nt think he was a bad teacher and it was just as annoying to me when basic algebra was not known by students who are pre-med, engineers, etc. However, there was an absurd amount of drama because he had personal complaints filed against him. He then took away extra credit extra time on tests and it felt retaliatory. I would avoid if possible.
Professor Sakharuk has a big ego. He makes mistakes when grading the exams (which is not a big deal, people make mistakes) but the issue is that he gets mad at you if you respectfully let him know. It is also pretty difficult to follow up in lectures, he needs to take a teaching course to learn how to teach Physics. Attendance is not mandatory.
You will be teaching yourself physics.
he has no clear expectations, grades at random AVOID AT ALL COSTS
If I can do it you can do it... it's just a lot. Like way too much for a Gen 1 Physics class. He can get a little rude so just keep that in mind and brush it off.
This professor provides an insane amount of extra credit. you can get up to 140% on each exam. i found him to be very easy, but a lot of my classmates didnt. if you are good at studying and go to office hours you will do fine, plus he drops the final if you have above a 95.
I found Sakharuk to be insanely easy. he gives 40% extra credit on every exam and I ended with something like 115%. he can be a little rude so I would avoid his office hours but he is always available during them. if you work hard this class is a breeze, but I can see why some don't like him.
Has an accent but is easy to understand. His "this is very simple" demeanor might not be lovable by many, but he is never condescending or impatient with students who have trouble. I had an F after the first exam, but proved that I understood the material by the end of the semester, so he bent his grading rules and gave me an A without asking
Awful do not take him
Do not take this professor he does not do any example problems or provide any study guides he just says to do the homework since the test has the same questions and then the test has completely different problems than the homework you are better off taking this as a transient student or with literally any other professor.
Honestly would recommend to stay away from Professor Sakharuk if you're completely new to physics, he explains the math parts well, but concepts not so much. Insane amount of homework, 0 practice tests, and ends class early/gets off track sometimes. If you're showing that you're putting in the work, he'll work with you, but it won't be easy.
The exams don't match up to the homework or what he teaches you. His grading also appears to be very inconsistent. Also, there are a lot of online quizzes that will only be available for one day and then will lock after that but he doesn't ever notify you or send a message to the students about the quiz, so many students miss them entirely.
Lectures simple, you teach yourself, exam material more difficult than homework. Made the crucial-to-my-paid-education mistake of not pre-reading the obnoxious weights of the exam questions. Spent 50% of my time working through a multiple choice section worth 20 points total just to struggle with the written responses which totaled 80 points. DNT
If you decide to take Sakharuk, be ready to teach yourself everything about physics. His lectures are useless and he barely goes over any problems. I spent many hours a week doing his homework and going to the tutoring center for help on those problems that are not even on the exam or similar. Avoid at all costs, trust me.
Worst professor/teacher I've ever had, hands down. The exams don't match up to the problems solved in class or to the homework problems, so you'll waste a lot of time studying things in preparation for the exam that aren't even relevant. Most students fail or drop. For some reason FGCU just lets it happen and does nothing. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
The exams are different than what he goes over in class. Even if you know all the problems from class and how to do them, and do all the homework, you'll probably still fail the exam. He tells you to just do the homework to be prepared and then the exam is nothing like the homework. Don't take, just trust me.
Stay away. You'll thank me later
Literally the only professor I've ever had that will put problems on the exam that aren't similar to what was taught in class or what was on the homework. You'll basically teach yourself physics, and then it's a guessing game as to whether or not the problems on the exam are comparable to what you were taught and what you studied.
Completely inconsistent grading. 6 exams and he doesn't return any. Exam questions are significantly more difficult than the homework and in class problems. It makes little difference if you prepare for the exam or not because the questions are going to be different than what you studied.
gives endless amounts of extra credit, I got 60's on some tests and got absurdly high grades like 126 on others. overall an easy class as long as you study the provided materials. He would also incorporate life lessons into his lectures. why is Micheal Phelps a good swimmer? because he practices. how do you get good at physics? practice.
Overall, do not take this professor if you have never taken any kind of physics before, his lecture style is not very accommodating to those who cannot keep up. The tests are weighed ridiculously and often do not match the homework. The homework can also be lengthy, and you essentially need to teach yourself the content in order to pass.
Overall it was a difficult class, but maybe that's just because physics is hard. Lectures are mostly math based, and do not cover basic concepts, you must learn these before you come to class .. He will throw extra credit at you and offers a generous grading scale, Maybe this is because he knows that half the class will drop before the drop date.
FGCU needs better physics 1 professors. Easily 70% of the class will drop or fail and they couldn't care less. If you have to take physics 1 DO NOT take Saharuk. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. You will be teaching yourself, the exam averages are in the 40s & 50s, no curves whatsoever, homework/classwork won't match the exams, and he does not return exams.
This class almost made me drop out. BY FAR the most difficult class I've ever taken.
Avoid taking Sakharuk at all costs. I am writing this to spare an innocent soul from the torture that is a class with this man. He is AWFUL at teaching, and does not explain or clarify concepts when asked. He goes, "This is very easy, yes?" and moves on. Averages on exams were in the 60s. You can do all the work for this class and still struggle.
Bro gave 5 exams over the course of the semester, PLUS a cumulative final. The only way you don't have to take the final is if you have an A in the class, which is basically impossible, considering that he's awful at teaching and doesn't provide study materials other than the homework, which didn't even compare to the exams in terms of difficulty.
Sakharuk literally feeds off your misery and stress. 5 grueling exams and a cumulative final, no study guide/practice exams or any preparation material of any kind. Homework is so bizarrely detached from lecture, they often have nothing to do with each other and the lectures are nonsense. 0 examples. You may pass, but will learn nothing.
AWFUL!!! I've never gotten below an A in a course but I ended up dropping the class due to an abysmal grade. Homework and lectures don't match tests, and he refuses to provide any extra study material/guides. Also is just condescending and overestimates his students abilities. Don't take if you want to keep your sanity.
Physics is a hard course and Sakharuk just makes it even harder. The exams are near impossible and nothing like anything taught in class or on Homework. If you put a lot of work in you can definitely pass and maybe get an A. I wouldn't recommend him, but if you have to take its not the end of the world, just be ready to WORK HARD!!!
